I dont have a favourite mech but here’s some random facts. I was obsessed with ts when I first saw them and I spent like four months drawing nothing but it. I got into the mechs through Tma and jonny and he is such a bastard I love him (looking back on my dash you’ll see the dehumanisation of jonny in art I blog). The only mech ive cosplayed is raph in both her more humanly form and her more birdy form. Again ashes was someone I was already familiar with because of frank being in Tma (same with Jess and Jonny) and id heard about Tim through rqg mentions etc. I wish I had more to say about ivy, nastya, Marius, Brian etc but tbh I just dont. I love them but dont know much about them outside of the mechs and never felt quite so drawn to them.

My favourite album again isnt just one. Id say of the main studio albums its a tossup between tbi and udad. Again I love them all but I listen to those the most. Ttbt 1&2 are also constantly playing (lost in the cosmos was my top song in my wrapped) and I listen to them probably the same amount. Also Frankenstein oml I love you mwah im so normal about it and im totally not an English nerd studying classic literature at college😅😅😅.

I feel like favourite song kinda falls into the same vein as the last question. While i cant actually pick my top 5 (in my wrapped) were lost in the cosmos, Loki, ties that bind, underworld blues and sirens so think of that what you will. I said this last time but I have a chronically short attention span so often ttbt songs are the best way to get my fix without having to listen to a whole album. Im sorry mechs purists but most of the time i dont listen in order cause who can be asked with that.

just kidding i know the emotions she sings about have existed since the beginning of time but im just now realizing that if i was born in the taylor swift era i would 100% be a swiftie bc i was thinking abt olivia rodrigo’s music the other day and unironically had the thought “wow she literally invented having emotions” before i managed to catch myself. but honestly i think it’s crazy how accurately she captures all these feelings of insecurity and heartbreak (and now joy!) so perfectly!!

“lacy” and “pretty isn’t pretty” seem so similar on the surface, but i feel like lacy is more of a gradual realization that no matter what u do—or how ur actually perceived—you will never feel as feminine as u want to. there will always be people (aka Lacy) who are gonna be effortlessly elegant and beautiful and feminine and feeling jealous of that is so fuckin stupid but that doesn’t stop u from caring. and then i like “pretty isn’t pretty” bc i feel like that’s the aftermath of Lacy. idk the part abt her trying every shade of lipstick really hit bc when i was first experimenting w makeup i remember feeling so insecure that none of them seemed “my” color. also i really like the gradual buildup of “it’s in my phone/head/magazines/the boys i bring to bed” bc i feel like that describes the pipeline so well

anyway now let’s get into the new songs she released. i’m actually not sure if they’re new bc when i searched it up after it popped up on my spotify google said she released this back in 2023? so idk. but her youtube channel literally has this all released within the last few days. but my favorite thing about these songs is how im in the same era she’s in rn. that happened to me with “sour” and “guts” reopened a lot of those old wounds, so i absolutely love the healing theme (? i know that’s not the right word but it’s hard to think rn) this album has. let’s start off with obsessed since that popped up for me first

scared of my guitar? “i can’t lie to it the same way i like to you”? “i lay in your arms and pretend that it’s love”? “i’d rather be tied to someone even if they’re wrong”? oh my god. i was literally thinking about this the other day. like, being in a relationship bc u want to be or if it’s bc you’re scared of being by yourself. and i also like the fact that it’s insinuating that the other person is the better half. bc sometimes it does feel like literally just loving someone when you struggle so much with the thoughts i mentioned is just the same as stringing them along. but then also i think it’s nice to pretend you’re in love bc obviously at the beginning of a relationship you have no idea if it’s ever going to go that far, so i think we often fall in love with the idea of being loved. which sounds a bit corny when i put it like that, but scared of my guitar made *me* feel like a tortured poet bc i used to be like “im chill ! :o)” and then open up ao3 and write a billy taupe/lucy gray story like girl…. that’s not the same as olivia rodrigo being folksy and cute

speaking of being folksy and cute, “girl i’ve always been” is so folksy and cute! i literally hate country music so fucking much (i’m sorry… one time this guy in hs played God’s Country in front of the class for a presentation and he stood there kinda ominously so ever since then i’ve kinda hated it) but this song was nice i liked it! i like the confidence it exudes, someone already mentioned this in the comments but it really is giving off lucy gray vibes, especially “with venom on my tongue u ask me who i’ve become” like okayyy someone needs to write a billy taupe/ lucy gray inspired story abt that line immediately. i don’t really have much more to say since this one was the one i found the least personally relatable, but i love the sassiness of it all!!

stranger. this one was a FUCKING banger, this was the sort of era i was in when guts released so im so glad miss olivia rodrigo could put the feeling of realizing u don’t *need* someone u thought u literally couldn’t live without into words. “i always thought it was some comforting lie ppl told” literally. also the call back to “enough for you” by saying “if im not enough for you then you’re not enough for me either” :,). i think growing up is quite nice

some quick life updates before i yeet myself off to bed and trick my body into a regular sleep cycle: 

bali was great!!! i miss it terribly already. the people were lovely and the beaches were lovely and it was just nice to finally get away from this claustrophobic island of a country after nearly three!!! miserable!!! years!!! it was low-key exhausting because we fit so much into four days - we literally woke up at six in the morning on the third day to take a ferry to nusa penida (me, plagued by motion sickness: dear Lord take this cup away from me) and then did stuff like hike a ton in the tropical blistering heat and snorkel in ridiculously choppy waters. fun fact: I actually can’t swim so LMAO but well *shrugs* here I am... I say this calmly but in reality I was choking on seawater and yelling at my bf HAHAHAHA 

coming back home was super stressful because 4/9 of us who went on the trip got covid lol. I was fretting so hard on the flight home bcs my bf was shivering and breaking out in cold sweat from a fever that just came out of nowhere and the plane did not have BLANKETS because it was a transit flight. what. anyways when we landed and checked our phones one of our friends was like, “fuck, I’m positive”, and we were like, fuuuuuck. I was so sure we got it because all 9 of us shared a burger the night before, so we self-isolated for a few days just to be safe, but it turned out to just be stomach flu on my bf’s end. (I somehow got out miraculously unscathed...) 

also because I got bombarded with work the past two weeks bcs it was my beloved coworker’s turn to go on holiday after me... it was rough, man. I think I worked till or past midnight most days (although I generally try to take Wednesday and Friday nights off for Mental HealthTM) but honestly I'm just happy to not be fired because it was just me and my boss holding the fort together and i’m pretty sure I sent him trash at some point but he was genuinely so nice about it. like, he sent me an email with super detailed feedback and was like, don’t worry, it’s not stuff I expected you to know because it’s super technical, but just keep trying and you’ll get better and I was like yo... thanks... /cryingindaclub

I turned 25 recently and it is just. quarter life crisis ahoy. HELP. royai week completely slipped my mind with everything that’s been going on and my submissions will probably be really tardy (if they even get finished at all HAHAH) but the prompts this year have been really nudging me back towards writing again. they’re INCREDIBLE!!! I can’t wait to see how everyone interprets it - I'm sure it’ll be fantastic. i have to confess I've been kinda out of fma/royai lately bcs I've been working on other original stuff (also because my latest obsession is Star Wars LOL but this fandom was truly one of the best things that happened to me in 2020 and it’s just really nice to see everyone coming together again for the best week of the year. genuinely feels like Christmas in the summer but instead of mistletoe we have fic. what’s not to love?

Super long post about my experience at the Arctic Monkeys concert in Toronto for night one.

Excuse any typos lol.

First things first, I had trouble with my ticket and nearly had a heart attack (thanks StubHub) but I got my ticket figured out and got to the venue in time while DC Fontaines were performing. It was mostly a younger crowd in their 20’s-30’s but there were some older folks and parents taking their teenage kids. The amount of leather blazers, Converse, Doc Martens and black mini skirts I saw was incredible. It’s interesting how the tumblr grunge aesthetic still carries on in their fan base even though the band has changed so much.

My seats were at the back of the 303 section of Budweiser stage, dead centre and no one was behind me. I’m 6’1 and I wore a little heeled boot (sorry it went with the outfit) but I was so happy I didn’t block anyone behind me.

They fucking opened with ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ around 9:10 pm. I was fully ready to hear ‘Sculptures of Anything Goes’ but I was shocked and happy to hear those opening riffs. It’s just so good. How can you not love it. Everyone went wild and rightly so.

Alex looked handsome as always in his blazer but he did a little Canadian tuxedo with the denim shirt and jeans and those silly glasses but I kinda loved it. 

They thundered into ‘Brainstorm’ which sounded incredible. Their sound and talent has truly stood the test of time and he didn’t slow anything down LOL.

THEN THEY FUCKING DID ‘I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am’ and I lost my fucking MIND. AND NO ONE ELSE DID. At least not around me. I hate to admit it but the crowd was kinda mid. I feel kinda bad for the band, they deserve so much better, especially the new songs. The crowd only know AM songs and the popular songs from the early albums. I’m a new fan myself but I’m unhealthy obsessed and I studied their discography and The Car specifically beforehand. IAQWITI is so damn groovy and funky, the ‘waahhs’ get me every time and ‘eyes roll back’. The guitar always sounds so delicious and fun. 

They did ‘Snap Out Of It’ which isn’t my favourite (sorry) but still a fun bop. But then they did ‘Cry Lightning’ and again, l lost my shit. It sounded so goddamn good. Again, his voice just carries the song so beautifully and it’s already a masterpiece so hearing it live was nothing short of spectacular. He also did the solo at a the regular speed and actually played a little longer. 

And Teddy Picker and View From The Afternoon were played and again, they always slap and are such good energy. NO ONE WAS MOVING. AGAIN, AT LEAST NOT AROUND ME. Even looking out into the crowd, it was just upright bodies barely moving like??? Alex serenaded us with ‘Cornerstone’ adding little ad-libs as usual, he says ‘fiddling with the smoke alarm’ now instead of ‘messing’. There was a beautiful piano interlude before ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?’ and it seems like everyone woke back up and sang along. Alex got on his knees during Arabella and sang straight into the camera which kept zooming into his face. He’s like a cat with a laser pointer. 

THEN CAME ‘ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE’. Those opening piano keys started and I I screamed and clapped in utter joy and no one around me seemed to know the song. Like what is going on in Toronto?! Why no TBHC love? I’m so happy it stayed on the setlist, he hits the little falsettos so beautifully and absolutely killed the guitar solo. 

‘Do Me Favour’ and ‘Pretty Visitors’ were next. Not a lot of people were waving their arms and casting a snake pit on the wall like hello?

And then. The chord to the ’Suck It and See’ started. And I actually couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I screamed the loudest I’ve ever SCRUMPT. AND NO ONE AROUND ME GOT EXCITED AND IM LIKE YALL HEARING THSI RIFGJT!?  ALEX WAS EVEN LIKE ‘COME ON’ LIKE WAKE UP PEOPLE. He started it acapella like other performances last year but it’s so FUCKING AMAZING. THAT SONG AND THAT ALBUM ARE SO SPECIAL TO ME. ITS SUMMERTIME. ITS HAPPINESS. ITS NOSTALGIA. AND THE FACT THAT THEY PERFORMED IT ON THE NIGHT OF A BLUE MOON AND SANG ‘Blue Moon girls from once upon a Shangri-la.’ Like I can’t comprehend it happened. I couldn’t stop smiling and singing the entire time. I’m so fucking happy and grateful and honoured to have heard that song live. I can’t ask for anything else in my lifetime because that was all I ever needed and more. I’m so happy that mahaonthegram got to it hear it live, I know it’s such an incredibly special song for her. She deserved to hear it and have an absolutely amazing night at the concert.

Then, they did 'Knee Socks', another one that isn't my favourite but still fun to hear.

And then, oh my god, ‘There’d Better Be a Mirrorball’. Hearing this song live y’all. He did a beautiful piano interlude before the song started but my god, just perfection. It felt like I was the only person in the room with them, so intimate and transformative. Alex sounds better than the recording which we all already knew. And of course, the mirror all dropped down and illuminated the arena at the end which was so magical. 

505 started and the mirrorball was still down. Everyone went crazy (like finally) and sang all the words.

RU MINE started playing and I was like ‘bro, they are SPEEDING through these songs, like we can’t be at the end already?’ Where is Body Paint?? Either way, I fucking jammed out and had the time of my life. The people next to me left during R U MINE and I’m like R U OKAY?! The band left the stage after R U MINE.

They came back from the encore with ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ which everyone knew which made the energy even better. It’s so fun to sing and hear them perform it live. And then ‘IBTYLGOTDF’ which is always a FUCKING BOP. It was the song that started it all for me and got me down the rabbit hole and into my obsession. The energy it’s so fun. No one was close to me on my left so I was able to move around and dance more. How can people stand still at a concert? Especially like a rock concert? I don’t understand. I know screaming gets annoying after a while but like how will the band know if you are having a good time? 

And then they ended with Body Paint which is the perfect closing song. People actually knew the song so they got excited when it started. The falsettos are so delicious and wonderful and he hits every single one. Because they closed with it, Alex played his solo for so long 😭 just grooving out and jamming out for like three minutes straight and loving every second of it. He blew kisses in-between chords and walked across the stage waving to the crowd, he got on his knees looking absolutely etheral. And then it was over. 

And I just sat in my seat in utter awe while people shuffled around me to leave the stadium. Staring at the mirrorball. It happened so fast, they really flew through  the set list and played for just over an hour and a half. I couldn’t stop singing and smiling the entire time. After hearing SIAS, my life was made for evermore. I couldn’t ask for anything else. Not even ‘Hello You’. It was just perfect in every way. And I’m so grateful and happy that I went and that I fell in love with them only a few months ago. It was truly best concert I’ve ever been to and the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to have turned 26. Everything was perfect.

Thank you Alex, Matt, Jamie and Nick for one of the best nights of my life.

HANDLING JEALOUSY: everyone for sure has a crush on jamie. i also imagine jamie was an entire heartbreaker (lil slutty phase?) before he moved into the neighbourhood, so he carries this air of confidence around people interested in him. he’s a flirt in an understated way, polite and gentlemanly to a fault sometimes, so it isn’t surprising when people try their luck with him.

YOUR PARENTS FINDING OUT: so part of me wants to write the huge blow up and falling out which would occur if your parents interrupted yall mid-stroke (lmao) and that's how they found out, but more realistically, i feel like it gets to a point where your parents have heard so many rumours, and they've watched you change over the months, going from completely disinterested in jamie to visibly excited and giddy when he's around, they kinda know what's happening, to an extent.

Third, I am fluent in German and English. Though, I suck at writing in German, I never learned how to, so don't ask me to do that please. Fourth, my favorite color is red, so you can guess my favorite Taylor album (and coincidently also the show I've been to see 10 times on Broadway...). Fifth, I love to talk A LOT if you couldn't tell by the essays I send yall. Red desert: I LOVE THIS SONG! It's pretty repulsive but that kinda just adds to the vibe? It's a very vibey and disco dance night kinda song and even though the4 lyrics are repeated it feels different every time they say it lol! I love this one, absolute bop: 10/10

Best year: okay okay I'm loving Luke's voice! The lyrics are so cute too and a little sad but its 5sos so... This song feels like the embodiment of every trope ever in a y/n fanfic!! "I wanna hold your hair when you drink to much, carry you home when you can not stand up"??? Tell me that not a 5sos y/n fanfic I DARE YOU! It's a little repetitive and not to be problematic on main but I preferred the acoustic version with just Luke. This ones got a lot going on OH THOSE DRUMS! Okay wait his voice so snapped at the end there that was INEDIBLE! 7.5/10

Old me: THIS SONG IS SO HECKIN ADORABLE OKAY?!?! AND IT DOES NOT DESERVE THE HATE. Not In the Same Way- this song just wastes no time to knock you off your feet, OMG! I really like the lyrics but his voice is a little boring, WAIT NVM TAKE THAT BACK! "We fuck then we fight then you call me a psycho"!!! I LOVE THAT LYRIC! "Throw rocks at your window" these boys have an obsession with vandalism lol! I REALLY like the lyrics but the "Not in the same way" is kinda throwing the whole vibe off for me. I DO love the beat and flow of the song and how he sings rhe lyrics especially the spinning effect added at the end of "psycho". THE BRIDGE UGH THATS THE BEST PART OF ALL OF THE SONGS! OKAY! listened to this song about 3 times more and this song is definitly a bop 7/10

Lover Of Mine: highkey whenever I hear the title I think of the song by Alannah Myles, lol. The guitar is so pretty and his voice is too! Really smooth so far everything flows so beautifully. "Butterfly lies" is that a parallel to Teeth? THAT HUM WHO GAVE HIM THE RIGHT! It's so fucking cute I can't....the prechorus wow! The falsetto! The chorus! The drums! This entire song slaps so fucking hard, it makes me want to propose and sob at the same time 10/10

Thin White Lines: I love how it starts with the guitar/base, then the beat gets heavier and then Luke's vocals just coat it on top, beautiful progression! The chorus kinda slaps you in the face tho, ngl. I love the harmonies and the vocals and the beat buuuut it feels simultaneously too slow and too fast? Like not fast enough for dancing but too slow for the soft vibe, imo. Once again the bridge fucking slaps! "I dont think I like me anymore, can someone tell me who I was before". Lowkey, my favourite part of the song 5/10

Lonely Heart: so I already decided I loves this one from the title, sorry not sorry. THE SOFT COUNTING AT THE BEGINNING! Very stripped down so Luke's voice is the main focus, as a luke girl, I like it very much. The hint of vibrato when he sings "follow" but its breathy and more intimate is so amazing! I love that it feels like he's singing to me in this one! Okay the songs getting a bit fuller and BAMN hit ya with that chorus, my dudes! I love this chorus! The harmonies and simultaneous singing is giving me queens vibes and then the way it fades out back into an acoustic but the guitar is layered eith the beat now! THE HARMONIES! This song lures you in with a soft, comforting embrace and then SLAPS you in the face with the chorus but in a way where you want to thank them, lol! I'm not as big of a fan of the lyrics but the rest is perfection, omg. AND THE BRIDGE WOOPITY WOO! THE RUNS!!!!!!! 9/10

High: HOW DARE THEY START OFF BY LITERALLY WHISPERING IN MY EAR! His vocals slap so hard already, geez! GOOSEBUMPS!! The moment his voice got deep and all raspy, I was not prepared! "I need to stop letting me down" is my motto and the way he sings that is so fucking pretty. His voice is so so so pretty in this and smooth but still has that breathy quality and slight rasp that makes it feel so personal! And that high (ha!) note on "down" in the chorus? 😍 I like that this song doesnt really have much going on and how at the end the boys join in at the chorus and then how they end it on a lower note 15/10
