Konoha Academy History (all dates are approximate based on the data book)

According the the Official Fanbook, the Nidaime, Tobirama Senju, founded a shinobi training camp at the base of the Hokage cliff approximately 50-60 years before the start of the series.

The first term created 36 graduates, it begun as an educational venture to produce fresh shinobi, but soon merged with military and domestic facilities, becoming the academy around 40-50 years ago.

The Sandaime, Hiruzen Sarutobi, during his time as Hokage he carried out two expansions of the academy (first was 30-40 years ago, and the second 20-30 years ago) which refined the education and training systems, and upheld stricter standards on students.

To be accepted into the academy, there are three core requirements to be met:

1. You must love the village and hope to help preserve peace and prosperity.

2. You must have a mind that will not yield, able to endure hard training and work.

3. Be healthy in mind and body.

Instructors at the academy are chosen through selection exams, this practice started around 40 to 50 years before the series. They follow a motto coined when the academy was founded, ‘Development as shinobi with respect to individuality’, to promote an open minded environment for students to strengthen their bodies and minds.

You ever think about how shisui probably started doing shunshin all the time because the 4th hokage was the coolest person ever when he and Itachi where growing up? And 'playing ninja' back then probably meant someone got to be the yellow flash. I just think it's super cute that Shisui may have been a yellow flash fanboy and based his fighting style on him a little bit.

hi! hope that all the writers have been well :) i've been on a bit of a naruto reread recently, and i realized that in canon, genma and raidou were part of minato's personal guard. not sure if you ever got there or what you think of that, but i thought that legacy canon made a fun little through line to that out-of-nowhere canon revelation. i know i had a lot of fun envisioning legacy genma and raidou connecting to naruto canon that way!

Thank you! I suppose that is a bit of a nod to canon, especially with Genma and Raidou both being in ANBU, so by definition serving as Hokage's guards.

We haven't seen Minato train anyone in the use of his anchored translocation, but we definitely make liberal use of his unanchored translocation, which in Legacy canon is taught to all combat jounin.

(We don't subscribe to Kishimoto's rather messed up timeline with respect to everyone's ages and past teams, though. For example, Genma and Gai are four years apart, but are drawn as if it was mere months. Genma looks to be about nine which should make Gai five, yet Gai looks older than Genma if anything.)
