— OCS AS LOVE TYPES
tagged by @stephschoices to do this uquiz for some ocs and naturally i chose the 3 stooges <3 thank you very much for the tag i love uquizzes!!
tagging everyone reading this. i can do that right
KALLIAS — love that lasts
love unconditional, love unfailing. you love no matter what happens because you believe in the best – of you, and them. it will hurt and it will fail you, but this love tastes so sweet – you can never believe that it bitters sometimes. the way you choose to love unconditionally is incredible.
GALEN — love that strengthens
you make sure that people know that they are loved, and you give them strength when they need it the most. this is an ability that is rare; the love that you hold speaks wonders of yourself. i hope you're doing alright. isn't it exhausting always being the bigger person?
V — love that calms
this is sweet. i hope you know that you make others feel at ease around you. you're a gem, a blessing, a treasure – and you should know it. it's comfortable loving you. it's a privilege to be around you and to be let into your world.
#tag game#kallias#galen#victoryne/valen/vail#kallias' and galen's are SPOT ON#kallias does not know it yet but they fall hard and blind and head over heels#they're loyal to a fault & if they love you that means you can do no wrong in their eyes#you know that quote that goes 'jealous of the sun because it kisses your skin and jealous of the moon because she watches you dream'#if you opened up kallias' brain that's what you'd see#you wouldn't see it laid out quite as eloquently but the idea is there#galen expresses their feelings. not well. but you can tell anyway if they love you and i think that is so special#you can tell when they think the world of you ):#and if it's romantic#tender kisses to tender bruises....#their love is safe and comforting and i would like to be wrapped up in it#they're so steamed milk on a cold night#v's result surprised me LOL but. yeah!#they're definitely not the calmest of people but this makes sense to me anyway#it'll take a while for things to get to this point but i like to think the wait & effort will be worth it in the end [:#i think telling v that you feel at ease around them could either be the world's greatest insult or the world's greatest compliment#depending on how your relationship looks at the time#but if they take it as a compliment it will HIT#if they love you they want nothing more than for you to feel safe and they will bust their ass off to provide that#SO SORRY for rambling. but also not that sorry#i love my little guys (gender neutral)

Excerpt from Done with Love Ch 4
Scene: Secret in the Flower Shop / Shogi with Shikamaru
Just sharing some of my favorite scenes from my In-Progress fic! Hope you guys enjoy!
Tumblr media
Done With Love - Ch 4 [FF | AO3]
Ships: Hints of Shikasaku
Scene Summary: For Sakura’s genjutsu training, she must memorize details about the world around her in an artistic way rather than analytically. However, while at the flower shop, Ino spills a secret that has Sakura looking at Shikamaru in a new light.
Sakura is trying to see the world in a new light, with the eye of an artist rather than a scientist. It's going horribly.
She spent an hour yesterday browsing through flowers and journaling their details. How Violet petals transition from yellow to white to purple, how the textures of the petal were softer than smooth stems and the difference between the smell of a rose and a lily. Somehow the journal still came off more as a botanical case study than art.
It wasn't a total waste though. She'd got to spend some time with Ino at the Yamanaka flower shop.
"So, how's it going with Shika-ma-ru?" She asks, drawing out the last two syllables in his name. Sakura rolls her eyes, glancing up from the Violets.
"Fine, I guess. We haven't killed each other yet." She answers with a shrug.
"Sounds like sexual tension to me," Ino sings, and then adds, "If you guys just slept together, you'd get along so much better."
Sakura scoffs, "Gross, Ino-pig."
"Come on, you don't think Shikamaru's a little cute in a bookish kind of way?" Ino asks.
"We're just friends, Ino. I've never thought of him like that." Sakura answers, not looking up from her flowers this time.
"Yeah, right. I saw you guys at that restaurant, and you were way to cozy to just be friends." Ino argues, leaning over the counter.
"What's your deal with him, Ino?" Sakura says, frustrated. "Are you jealous or something? I feel like you're reading way too into this."
"Me? Jealous?" She scoffs, but Sakura narrows her eyes at her.
"Yeah, I think so." Sakura says. Ino shakes her head a few times. "I mean, what was with the whole 'Shikamaru prefers blondes' comment? Don't try telling me that wasn't referring to yourself."
Ino's mouth drops open. "Forehead! Why do you have to remember everything?" She pouts and answers, "So Shikamaru had a little crush on me when we were genin, but that was like so long ago. And we only kissed like one time and it doesn't even really count since he didn't use tongue."
"Wait, seriously?" Sakura abandons her flowerpot and strides over to the counter where Ino is leaning. "Why am I just hearing about this now?"
Ino waves a hand. "Because it was hardly a blip on the radar. Plus, it was when we were still fighting over Sasuke, so it's not like we talked ever."
"That's a huge blip! You kissed your teammate." Sakura presses. "Oh my god, Ino, was that you're first kiss?"
"So, what if it was?" Ino says defensively.
"Ino!" Sakura shrieks.
"There have been many more and many better since then. Trust me." Ino says.
"God, isn't it awkward working with him now?" She asks, imagining if she'd ever kissed Naruto and then had to face him every day for training or missions. She shudders.
"Not really. It was just a moment and we both know it. Sometimes it's better to get something like that out of your system. What can I say?" Ino shrugs. "It's not like we'd ever have something come out of it. The Yamanaka, Nara and Akimichi clans aren't allowed to have relationships anyway. Something about preserving the Kekkei Genkai."
She suddenly feels bad for Ino. No one should be able to tell you who to love. What if she had really loved Shikamaru and been forced apart?
"Don't give me that look, forehead," Ino says after glancing at the pity on Sakura's face. "I mean, sure, at the time it was a whole 'star-crossed lovers' feel, but I am like so over that. We never would have worked out anyway."
Sakura nods, feeling a little better. Until she remembers Choji, who seems to not be over it at all.
"I'd never date a teammate anyway, even if we were allowed. That's just too much overlap between work and play." Ino finishes with a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows.
Poor, poor Choji.
"That reminds me," Ino recalls, "Did you really mean what you said about being done with Sasuke?" Giving her a probing look.
Sakura prickles, "Yes, is that really such a surprise?"
Ino looks at her like she's grown a second head, "Well, yeah! Your whole life was Sasuke and then out of nowhere you're 'over him'." Adding air quotes.
"Not just him. I'm done with relationships in general." Sakura responds.
"That I don't believe for a second." Ino states.
"Well it's true." Sakura insists, "I'm way too busy for a relationship anyway. I've got a lot riding on this training and I won't put myself on hold again for some guy who's probably just going to end up hurting me when it's all said and done."
"You're so cynical." Ino says judgmentally. "Not everyone has the same emotional baggage as Sasuke. You can't base your whole love life off him."
"It's not about him. It's about me, for once." Sakura counters, turning her nose up before saying, "I'm focusing on myself for a while."
"Boo," Ino heckles, "That's what they all say and its never true."
Sakura huffs, and returns to her journaling, knowing Ino was way too stubborn to quit. Why bother even trying to convince her otherwise?
***
Now, as she's sitting across from Shikamaru at the shogi board in Nara forest, the combination of Ino's confession and trying to catalog everything she looks at has her studying Shikamaru too closely. Distracting herself by observing the wood grain in the shogi board and the shine of the grass only goes so far. Before long she's back to memorizing the color of his cheeks in the sun or suppressing a mental picture him and Ino in a lip lock behind Training Ground 5.
She doesn't realize she'd been staring at him until he gruffly says, "You're move." His eyes are cast to the side, not meeting hers and his cheeks are a little pink.
"Sorry," She says, quickly returning to the game.
Compared to when she started playing, she was leaps ahead now. She hadn't won any games yet, but she'd come close, proof that she was learning. Although she'd never admit it to him, Shikamaru was right about this game being helpful. It made her think about everything more strategically and had really helped her out in her spars with Team Gai.
She selects her move quickly and sits back, chin resting in her hand again waiting for his turn.
She tries to focus on the board and plan, but her gaze gravitates to him again. His eyebrows are drawn together in the familiar way, and she knows his eyes are looking 20 moves into the future. His eyes are a clear, warm brown, just lighter than the boarder of the shogi board. Something about them is sharp despite the soft shade. Maybe the shape or the quickness in their movement?
Either way, she was starting to see what Ino described as 'bookishly cute'. If she'd seen his face on a stranger, she wouldn't look twice. Now after spending so much time with him, his features meld into something so familiar and so Shikamaru, she can't help but feel he's actually quite handsome. She'd never noticed before.
The conflicting sharp cheek bones and jaw line against the soft tones of his skin and eyes were balanced somehow. The way his lips are perpetually turned down at the corners was somehow endearing after a while. Even his chocolate colored ponytail she notices actually has streaks of chestnut that come out in the sunlight as the breeze blows it. Alone, each feature is plain, forgettable, but somehow together they come alive in a way that had her shoulders relaxing and her chest feeling light. Looking at him felt natural, like coming home after a long day. It felt safe.
"What?" He says softly, finally meeting her gaze. "You're staring,"
He's blushing again and looks down at the shogi board a moment later, eyes glued to a single piece.
"Sorry, I guess I'm just a little tired today. My mind keeps wandering." She lies, turning her attention back to the table. The truth about her assignment and Ino's confession are too embarrassing to share. Taking a few moments to refocus on the game, she remembers her strategy again, and makes her move. It's a good one.
Shikamaru makes a disapproving 'tsk', scowling in a way that's more of a pout for him. "I was hoping you wouldn't do that." He mumbles, crossing his arms.
She tries to suppress the smile rising to her face. One, she's insanely proud that she's getting good enough to be frustrating. Two, something about the unguarded expression on his face is just so cute.
She should feel horror at the thought, but her chest is just light. Now that she's seen it, she can't unsee it. Her eyes bounce between the board and him, guessing at what move he could be planning and reading each expression as they flit across his face.
'I could move that there,' one seems to say, 'but then…that won't work' another counters.
She lets out a quiet laugh through her nose, accidentally drawing his attention again.
"What?" He says a little more forcefully this time.
"Nothing, you're just so cute when you're concentrating." The truth is out of her mouth before she can stop it, and Shikamaru goes bright red, mouth wobbling between his pout and a smile and his eyes drop to the board again. Sakura grins.
"You're making fun of me," He huffs, mouth finally settling into to pout.
"Maybe," she says impishly. Shikamaru grumbles something sounding like 'troublesome' under his breath, and makes his move, cheeks still pink. He never really recovers, and for the first time its Sakura who wins.
He accuses her of cheating, but Sakura insists it still counts.

A/n: if you are sensitive to this kind of action please proceed. I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Warning: language, some sexual abuse

-------------------
"Hey girl. Where are you going?" Howard takes a drink of what I think is whiskey.
"Home" I quickly said.
"Come On Y/n get in" Shawn opened the back door.
"No no I'm tired. I need to get home" I picked up my pace and ignored their complains.
"Alright" he said and speed off. A huge sigh of relief washed over me. I took out my phone with headphones and began my playlist. While humming and looking at the lit up sky, I didn't notice the two shadows start walking next to me.
"Y/n~" Howard takes my headphones out and startled me.
"What do you want?" I asked annoyed and terrified.
"Can we walk with you?" Shawn asked getting on my personal space. He might look short but I'm more shorter than him, that's for damn sure.
"No I'm fine. Thanks for asking" I kept on walking.
They seemed to slow down. Where they going to leave? Please leave. I quickly took out my phone ready to call anyone to help me. As I began typing the numbers down I felt one of them breathing down my neck.
"Hey Y/n do you like to fuck?" Shawn asked with a sinister smile on his face. Howard took my hat away and I unknowingly began running petrified.
"Sweetheart you forgot something" he shouted but I didn't stop. I began hearing their feet chasing me. Quickly I glance back and see Shawn running towards me. Where is the other fucker?! Where is he?! My thoughts where interrupted by a pair of arms capturing me. My instincts kicked in I turned and punched him while taking off my coat that he was clinging to. I hurried away when a heavy mass tackles me. A scream left my body and I began kicking.
"Shut her up!" Howard got up with his hand covering his nose. He lifted me up and covered my mouth.
"Wow, sweets I think that you broke my nose" he removed his hand and blood was covering half his face.
"Good" I muttered.
"What? I didn't hear that" he removed his hand from my mouth and I said it once more.
"Good" tears started to form from how scared I was.
"Good?" He began taking his coat off and got close that I could smell the alcohol on his breath.
"I'm hurt. I'm hurt Y/n" he grabbed my hand and slowly placed it on the side of his face. I closed my eyes and began sobbing.
"Shut her up Shawn! Fuck" he put his hand back on my mouth and I bit down on the filthy flesh until I tasted blood. He let me go but Howard grabbed me and threw me on the ground and got on top of me. I screamed and kicked, but he slapped me while he ripped open my uniform.
“Wanna bite honey?! I’ll bite you” he bit down on my neck that i let out another scream.
"Stop! Please Stop!" He began kissing and continued biting painfully my exposed flesh. I was petrified and the coolness of the air made my vision blurry. I can't just let him do whatever he wants! I began throwing my hands up to hurt him in any way, I was useless, Shawn took hold of them. My sobbing became louder from the pain that he was doing to me and because his hand began traveling all over my body. The fear and stress made my vision turned dark.
--------------
No, no, NO. I moved my feet so fast as i heard her plead. My blood began to boil. At the end of the bridge I get the sight of those whoreson bastards. One was holding her down and the other on top of her. I took off my sweater as I grab the one on top and threw him to the wooden fence, I took hold of the broken wooden planks and swing at the one holding her down on the ribs letting out a scream. Over my heavy breathing the sound of a blade caught my attention and quickly turned around to stop the knife. A surprised look took over his face as my arm began to shift and I easily disarm him while I elbowed him knocking him out.
"Run, before I rip your fucking head off" the short one got up and ran leaving his friend behind. Still fuming, I walk over to her and notice the bloody bite marks. Automatically, I clench my fist, but I wipe the blood away with the end of my t shirt. I move some strands of her hair way from her face and press my hand on her soft cold cheek. I try to close her ripped uniform and put my sweater over her body; My hand goes behind her head and the other under her knees picking her up. Her skin goosebumps when I bring her closer to my body as I march to her house. The sun began to rise and it brought out the color of her beautiful h/c hair. It relaxed me but deeply I was still angry.
Gently and carefully i lay her on the swinging bench on her porch and sat on the stairs waiting for her to wake up. The sunrise was beautiful, the warmth that it gave me felt heavenly. I miss Wakanda. That is no lie, and i’m delighted to say that Shuri allowed me to go back whenever I wanted.
The sound of her whining gets my attention. Her eyes open and she quickly gets up to fight.
"Shhhhh. It's okay" I slowly get up. She bends down to get my sweater to cover herself and her eyes stay on my arm, the fear was still there but it seemed as if it was my cursed arm that scared her. Slowly I back away and run.
-----------------------
She wonders in the house and sees Ed on the couch sleeping. Was her waiting for her? That didn't matter at the moment, she just wanted to shower and get to bed. Carefully she placed a blanket over him and tiptoe her way upstairs to the bathroom.
She removed her uniform and hesitates to turn to face the mirror. Taking a deep breath she turns and finds disturbing marks around her neck and chest. Tears rapidly fall as she remembered what he did. Once her tears dry, she turns the shower on and goes in letting the hot water circle her body. After a few minutes she grabs the loofah and the newly bottle of soap and starts washing away the feeling of them. The soap stings her but without care she continued rubbing the feeling away until she feels clean.
"Y/n are you okay?" Ed called startling her.
"Yeah Ed, do you need anything?"
"No. I'm going to bed"
"Okay"
She lets her head lean against the wall defeated. The bottle of soap is empty now, Her thoughts go to what happened on the porch. Bucky, Bucky has a metal arm. Her eyes get caught on his sweater on the tile floor, slowly she wraps a towel around her body and picks up his sweater.
Walking out like if you live alone, you head to the room and lock the door behind. You comb your hair and put it into a messy bun, you dress yourself in some sweat pants and a loose t shirt. Slowly you put on his sweater taking in his smell, your body lays down and slowly drifts into a deep sleep with the ocean blue eyes tattooed into your mind.
"Y/n aren't you going to work?" Mom voice makes me sit up panicked. Its just mom you dumb dork.
"No. I'm not feeling well" I say . I don't want to go to work. I mean I do, but I don't.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah"
"I'm going to grandma's house, wanna come?"
"No. I'm fine ma. Kiss her hi for me please" I stayed in bed still in his sweater when my phone began to ring. I’m surprised that my phone stayed on me after all of...that!
"Hello" I answer it and put it on speaker.
"Ask her Where she's at?" Fuckin Tom.
"Ya heard him girl?" I answer with a small 'yeah'
"So? Ya coming or not"
"Sorry Caroline, I seemed to come down with the flu" again the thoughts of what happened flooded my mind like a tsunami.
"Okay babe. Feel better" with that I ended the call and rolled over to my pillow and began crying.
"Y/n you okay?!" Two knocks caught my crying short. I wipe away my tears and quickly get up to open the door. Ed had a worried face and pushed the door open and walked into my room. His eyes almost landed on my neck when I zipped up the sweater and let down my hair.
"I thought I heard you crying" he sits on the bed.
"Nah I'm fine. I think I'm getting sick." He hummed and got up.
"I'm taking mom to grandma. You coming?" I nod my head. He hugs me and leaves closing the door behind him. Letting out a huge sigh my body again falls on the bed. My cat Barkley lays on my stomach and began purring.
---------------------
For the past two days I had the same nightmare. The same fucking nightmare! I needed to get out and forget about all of this. Annoyed by myself I grabbed my bag and left the way I woke up, some sweatshirt and tights. I got in my mom's car and drove to the mall, since I'm going to be out might as well get my Christmas list out of the way.
Getting on the escalator to go to the food court. My bitch ass stomach is yelling at me to feed her. I took out my list and began checking over it. Jim, done. Rosie, done. Caroline, done. Tom, do i really wa-.
Tumblr media
A hand grabbed mine as I was going up. I quickly pulled away and looked at the person. B-Bucky? I open my mouth to say something but he was on the other side going down. His blue eyes shined when the sun kissed his face, something in me made me panic so I turned away and decided to go home. My shopping list can wait.
I arrive back at home to find my mom cooking. As I tried to sneak up stairs she head me and called me over to the kitchen.
"Are you going to work today?" I nodded my head and ate one of the carrots that she had chopped.
"Why?"
"I'm going tomorrow" she stayed quiet and continues cutting the vegetables.
"For sure" I quietly mumble and take another one. She quickly grabs my elbow and stares at me. Ah fuck. Why is she looking at me like that? Oh shit! I forgot about the marks on my neck. As I open my mouth to say something she shuts me up.
"I don't care how you got those. But if you are trying to make Adam jealous-"
"I didn't do it to get him jealous! For fuck sake I still haven't been touched mom!" The words of regret. Now how was I going to explain how I got them.
"Then? You know 'a hickie from Kenickie is like a hallmark card' She put her hands on her hips and looked at me. Great she's quoting Grease. She's pissed, I don't know why she quotes when she's angry.
"Right now, I really don't want to tell you. It's embarrassing" her face softens nods her head. That was a bit easy that it is scary.
"Dinner in thirty" she continued stirring the pot of vegetables. I ran upstairs and locked my door. That was super close.

Masterlist
The United States of America. Land of the free and home of the brave.
Tom Holland put his sunglasses on as he lead his parents and brothers down his favorite street. It was a quiet town in Georgia that was very pretty. The summer sun shining down on the family as Tom grew more and more excited to show his family the awesome stores he’d discovered.
They stopped in front of a small bookstore, which had an ice cream parlor next to it.
“This is it!” Tom said, motioning to the ice cream shop.
“Can we go into the bookstore first?” Harry Holland suggested, looking at his twin brother Sam. The youngest Holland, Paddy, groaned, half-heartedly.
“Uh, sure,” Tom replied, taking his sunglasses off. He glanced inside for a moment. “Oh, you guys are going to love her.” He murmured under his breath, opening the door to the shop.
Your head looked up at the sound of the bell ringing. A blast of hot air came in with the family and you recognized the last one in.
“Hey, Y/N. Just stopping by. This is my family.” Tom greeted you, as you shut your book and set it down. You smiled.
“Hi, guys. Tom’s said a ton about you all.” Tom laughed.
“I’m Nikki, Tom’s mother.” She smiled sweetly at you, reaching over to shake your hand.
“And I’m Dom, his dad.” He shook your hand as well. You looked at the three boys beside Tom and his parents.
“I’m Paddy!” He turned to his oldest brother. “You didn’t tell me you had a girlfriend. And a pretty one, too.”
Both your and Tom’s faces went red. You two stammered until you finally managed to say, “I’m not his girlfriend.”
“Yeah, we’re just friends,” Tom said and awkwardly looked to his younger brothers. “Okay, go on, mate.”
One of the boys laughed. “I’m Harry.” You smiled and nodded.
The final boy was very cute. He had freckles dotting all over his face, which had a slight sunburn, making the freckles more vibrant against his skin.
“I’m Sam.” He smiled a little sheepishly, and rubbed the back of his neck, immediately regretting it because he had a sunburn there.
Tom noticed the way Sam was looking at you, and the way you were looking at him. He looked at Harry who was smirking at his twin before clapping his hands.
“So, wanna look around before we go?” He asked his family. You looked at your phone when it lit up with an Instagram notification. Sam noticed your lock screen was a picture of you with Tom’s arm around you, and a couple of people he didn’t recognize, laughing,
“‘Course.” Nikki responded, smiling at you before leading Dominic and Paddy around the shop. Harry and Tom pulled Sam aside out of your earshot and you opened your book again.
“So, what do you think of her?” Tom glanced between his brothers.
“She’s lovely Tom. You’re very lucky.” Sam replied, trying to sound happy.
“Lucky?” Harry raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, don’t act as if you didn’t see it either,” Sam whispered, rolling his eyes. “They’re at least talking.”
“Sam, she and I are just friends.” Sam still looked at his brother in disbelief.
“Looks like someone’s jealous.” Harry said, starting to look through some books on a nearby shelf. Sam’s cheeks went red.
“I’m not jealous.”
“Sure, sure.”
After a couple minutes, the family said goodbye to Y/N. Tom decided to hang back for a moment and talk to Y/N.
“So?” Tom asked, drumming his hands on the counter.
“They’re wonderful, Tom. I’m glad I finally met them.”
“Did you know that Sam thinks we’re gonna get together soon?” Tom laughed and you shook your head smiling.
“Why does everyone say that?”
“Speaking of Sam,” Tom nudged you with his elbow. “I saw some heart eyes action going on between you two. You like him, don’t you?”
You looked out the window, avoiding eye contact with Tom. You tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. Tom chuckled after a long moment of silence.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
“Okay fine. But he’s going off to England in a couple days so it’s not like anything’s gonna go anywhere.”
“Y/N,” You finally looked into Tom’s eyes. “Just go for it.”
“Tom, you know I’m afraid of rejection.” He dramatically groaned as he stomped towards the door. His hand was on the handle and he was about to open the door when he turned and looked back at you again.
“Oh, and Y/N?”
“What?”
“He likes you too.”
The next day, Sam woke up to Tom tossing clothes at him.
“Wha-?” He rubbed his face in aggravation as Tom opened the curtains.
“If you wanna get the girl,” Tom said over his shoulder to Sam as he picked up his phone. “You gotta put in the effort.”
Sam sat up straighter in his bed in the hotel room. “What the hell are you going on about, mate?”
“I’m calling Y/N right now. We’re going to brunch with her in an hour.”
Sam sprung out of bed. “Shit.”
He scrambled to snatch up the clothes Tom threw at him and ran to the bathroom.
“Hey, uh, Y/N. Me and Sam are heading out to brunch in an hour or so. Wanna join?”
“Seriously, Sam,” Tom said to his little brother. “You’ll be fine.”
“Easy for you to say!” Sam said back, very nervous.
“Here, halfway through the meal, I’ll leave to ‘go to the restroom’,” Tom used air quotes as he and Sam walked through the warm air to the little cafe you were meeting them at. “And then you can ask her if she wants to be your date to the premiere.”
Sam took a deep breath and nodded at his brother. They found themselves nearing the cafe and Sam saw you sitting inside on your phone.
Tom opened the door and he and Sam walked inside. You looked up and smiled at them, putting your phone in your bag as they sat at the table with you.
“Hey, guys. Beautiful out, isn’t it?” You greeted them. Sam simply nodded slightly and smiled at you, which was all he could seem to do at the moment. He was fascinated by you. He would’ve listened to your voice all day if he could.
You ordered your food and drinks and conversations carried on. Sam added input in conversations more and more throughout the meal, feeling more confident with time.
Tom then excused himself to go to the restroom and after he left Sam gathered up all the courage he could to do this.
“So, Y/N,” You smiled warmly at him, waiting for whatever he was going to say next. “Would you, uh, would you want to be my date to the premiere?”
Your smile widened and your cheeks turned pink.
“Of course!”
Sam grinned back and felt a large weight fall off his shoulders.
Tom came back and brunch continued as usual, only you and Sam seemed more giggly and happier. Tom knew his plan had worked.
Nikki took it upon herself to help ready you for the premiere and she did wonderfully in doing so. Sam was waiting very nervously in the hotel room, pacing, as you and Nikki were in the bathroom getting you ready. Harry, Tom, and Harrison were all watching with delight, smirking as Sam was basically dripping in sweat.
Then the bathroom door opened and everyone looked in its direction. Nikki stepped out, looking beautiful as always, and behind her was you.
Sam’s mouth was slightly agape and he felt Tom’s arm around his shoulders.
“Go get your girl, mate.” Tom whispered, laughing, in his brother’s ear.
You walked up to Sam and smiled at him.
“I didn’t know someone as gorgeous as you could get any prettier.” Sam said and you glanced down quickly.
“Thank you,” You looked back up at him. “Not too bad yourself.”
The premiere was amazing. You and Sam had a great time together, laughing and sharing jokes with each other.
Tom and Harrison took note of that and snuck pictures of you two together.
Afterward, you all found yourselves in the hotel room. You said goodbye to the beautiful makeup Nikki did as you wiped it all off in the bathroom after changing out of your beautiful dress.
After you finished up, Sam offered to walk you to your home, which was a block or two away.
As you walked through the night, you thanked him for inviting you out. He smiled.
“It’s no big deal,” It was silent for a couple minutes. “I just really like you so I figured, why wait to lose her forever?” He glanced at you, worried if he said the wrong thing at first.
“Well, I like you a lot too,” You replied. “I honestly didn’t know you liked me though until you asked me to the premiere.”
You were at your house, more specifically your parents’ house. You faced him and smiled.
In that moment, Sam couldn’t handle anymore. He had to do it.
He leaned down and kissed you. And you immediately kissed back.
When you broke apart, you both giggled. Sam rubbed the nape of his neck, blushing.
“When are you leaving to go back to England?” You asked.
“We’re flying back in three days.”
“Three days?” You mentally groaned. You really wanted to see him again.
“I promise I’ll fly back as soon as possible okay?” Sam told you. You nodded before replying.
“And as soon as I get a vacation from my boss, I’ll fly out there.”
“See you tomorrow?” Sam raised an eyebrow.
“See you tomorrow.” You echoed. You reached up and kissed him one last time before walking to your front door. You waved to him before entering your home and he smiled. He turned and began walking home. He couldn’t wipe the smile away for the rest of the night.
Sam was in love.

UPDATED PROMPT LIST!!
Hello! Just thought we’d repost this for any new followers! I recently found the old link wasn’t working and I’m too lazy to fix it/bug widow to fix it so here we are!
HERE is our fandom link!
Person A is attractive, they know it, you know it, I know it, ask anybody and they’ll agree. They’re used to getting flirty comments and the general “oh geez what I would do to a body like that” and compliments on their conventionally attractive body parts. Person B gives Person A a compliment, but it catches them off guard because it isn’t “hey handsome/sexy” or something of the sort, it’s a genuine compliment on their personality/quirk they have that Person B enjoys. Person A is intrigued.
Person A constantly makes self-deprecating jokes, whilst Person B always responds with a soft “noo that’s not trueee”
Person A and Person B make a pact that if neither of them are married by 30, they will marry each other. Person B turns 30 tomorrow.
Person A and B are bored. They decide to throw things (eggs, pies, messy foods that smash on impact) at people from the top of a building. Person C is the next target, and Person B has a whole dozen of (thing) at the ready.
Person A takes Person B on a camping trip into the woods with a few friends. As they gather round the campfire and tell scary stories, Person A gets scared but doesn’t want to look weak in front of their friends. Person B notices and pretends to be scared so Person A can “make them feel safe” when in reality Person B is lowkey comforting Person A. Bonus points if they aren’t together yet.
Person A is super chill and friendly to everyone, until Person B is insulted/been rude to, then they turn into the Devil. Bonus points if Person A is like, a third of the size of Person B.
Person A and B are riding horses.
Person A and B are wholesomely cuddling
Person A and B are not so wholesomely cuddling
Person A and B are wholesomely cuddling after a not so wholesome night
Person A: “You have a nice butt” Person B: “Thanks, I got it for my birthday.”
Person A constantly quotes Person B, but super out of context and it makes Person B sound like the horniest bastard. (Ex. A: “Like Person B said earlier, you’ve got to stroke it gently and don’t mind the hair.” B: “I WAS TALKING ABOUT PETTING MY HORSE.”)
Person A and B had a rather heart wrenching breakup months ago. Whilst out one day, Person A sees Person B talking to their friends wearing an article of Person A’s clothing that went missing right before their break up. Person A smiles sadly and let’s Person B keep it.
Person A never gives Person B flowers, instead Person A gives Person B really pretty rocks. When Person B asks why, Person A responds “they’re beautiful, and they last longer.”
Person A, B and C are in a situation where they have to leave all their weapons. Person A drops a pocket knife and a butter knife. But, Person B starts off with taking a few from their sleeves, then from their pockets, and etc. It goes on for sometime and Person A is almost breaking down in laughter while Person C is watching in terror.
Person A and B are in a fight. Person A: “You know what, suck my dick.” Person B: “I have, 10/10 would recommend.” Bonus points if they’re in public.
Person A takes Person B on a romantic date. Instead of eating opposite ends of a pasta noodle and meeting in the middle for a kiss, they use a baguette and have to get through it without laughing because Person B is super hungry and noshing down hardcore on the baguette and Person A is suggestively raising an eyebrow. (Or, Person A didn’t think through how easily you can get filled eating bread and they stop halfway through because they’re stomachs are fuLL)
Person A and Person B are lost and are getting into an argument, thing is Person B really can’t hear Person A well. Person A: “That direction!” Person B: “What erection?”. Bonus points if Person A points towards Person C and Person C quickly looks down to check if they actually do have an erection. Bonus Bonus points if Person C is a girl, but still checks just in case.
Person A is injured, and is only upset about it because it makes cuddling with Person B comfortably difficult.
Person A is a magician and they’re alone with person B and person A is like “I have some spicy stuff for u ; )” and person B gets all excited, but then person A pulls out a jalapeno out of B’s sleeve. Bonus points if Person B is excited by jalapenos.
Person A and Person B are spending the night together for the first time. Person B can’t help from giggling at Person A’s pajamas. Decide why.
Person A being so use to Person B being there that when they’re away they put their arm around the place Person B is normally sat at.
Person A, B, C and D all go out camping.
Person A is having bad stomach pains/cramps and Person B is laying beside them rubbing their tummy to make them feel better.
Person A saving Person B from getting trapped under frozen lake.
Person A and C are traveling. They pick up Person B as a hitchhiker.
She looked fiercely into his eyes, the wind blowing her hair dramatically, and with an air of confidence she said “Fuck that shit”
“So what if I broke my arm, I will fight them.”
Kissed them whilst stealing their wallet
“I’m pretending to be your significant other because you looked really uncomfortable with that stranger at the bar hitting on you”
“The sun hasn’t even come up yet and you’re asking me to do what now?”
“Oh, I promise I’m not staring. I’m just..no don’t leave-!”
“Feel free to admire my beauty"
"If I was fishing for compliments, I certainly wouldn’t be using your pond.”
33%
“Mm. Moist cake."
"WhAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN’T EAT YOUR MUFFIN?”
She danced like there was no one watching. But everyone was watching her. And she looked like a dumbass.
“Put. The child. Down."
"Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, bitchy and the beast."
"I’m sorry, miss…um, there’s a um..there’s something in your..oh no."
"Quit harshin’ my mellow, bro.”
I got stuck in a Port-A-Potty and was rescued by a hot stranger

Having a bet to see who can go the longest without wanting a kiss. Person A is appearing to hold strong, meanwhile Person B can’t help but notice the way that Person A bites at their lip when focusing and how plump it gets and holy cow they’re going to lose the bet.
“You really… That’s not exactly meant to be eaten.”
“Do you think you could just please go one day without pissing me off?”
“Just this once, okay?”
“You’re really soft.”
“May I have this dance?”
“Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“I waxed the floors, grab your fluffy socks.”
“My parents are coming over in 10 minutes, please put your trousers on.”
“This is probably a bad time, but… marry me?”
“Why wasn’t I invited to your wedding?”
“I think you might be pregnant.”
“You better have a good reason for waking me up at the ass-crack of dawn.”
“I wasn’t going to wait around for you forever.”
“They always make shower sex sound so appealing, but honestly it seems quite dangerous.”
“It must be hard with your sense of direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pick up line.”
Idiot jar au.
“I’m sorry, what were you saying? I keep getting lost in your eyes.”
“You got her pregnant! What were you thinking?”
“I was going to kiss him, but then my friend texted me about going to Taco Bell, and, well, there’s this cashier that works there who is way cuter, so I bailed on the rest of the date.”

In the Moment
Summary: Now that Oliver’s been home for a few weeks, he’s starting to learn more about what happened to his loved ones while he was away. Finding out Tommy kidnapped Felicity wasn’t what he expected.
Part of the “Home Verse”
As always, thanks to @acheaptrickandacheesyoneline for being my cheerleader. And you can thank @realityisoverrated-fic for this one-shot. I thought that this verse was done, but her posting fic inspired me to share more from this verse.
Starling City 2012
Oliver lays in bed next to Felicity, gently tracing patterns on her body while she comes back down to Earth. They’ve been together for two weeks now, but his insatiable need for her hasn’t diminished in the slightest. If anything, he’s even more determined to come up with new and inventive ways to get her off. He sees it as a challenge, to see how quickly he can drive her crazy. Figure out how long he can keep her on the edge of bliss. How many times he can make her come.
She’s not complaining. Her need for him hasn’t diminished at all, either.
Felicity glances over at the clock. It’s nearly 6am. In less than an hour, the sun will be rising. It had been a long night. They’d spent a majority of the evening saving Peter Declan and Laurel from a staged prison riot at Iron Heights. Afterwards, they’d both been high on adrenaline and unable to sleep, so they’d naturally passed the time with their new favorite activity: exploring each other’s bodies.
Oliver’s lips find the back of her neck and she sighs in content.
“You should try to get a little rest before you have to go to work,” Oliver whispers into her skin.
She shakes her head. “If I sleep now, I’ll be even more tired. At this point, I just need to power through.”
“We’ll stay in tonight. Get to bed early,” he promises.
She’s been burning the candle at both ends ever since she started helping Oliver and his little crusade to take down everyone on his father’s list and save the city.  She’s hoping John Diggle comes around soon and joins the team. Maybe it’ll help lighten the load for them both.
“Can we order Toro’s?” she asks, giving him an innocent smile over her shoulder, knowing that he’s not a huge sushi fan, but he rarely says no to her when she smiles at him. It’s one of the many things she’s been learning about Oliver now that they are officially dating.
“Whatever your little heart desires,” he says with a matching smile.
They lay in comfortable silence for several minutes as Felicity basks in the feeling of his hands on her body and his weight against her. It’s almost enough to lull her into sleep, but she fights it off. She knows she’ll regret it all day if she goes to sleep now. She’d learned that lesson the hard way her first night on Team Arrow when she’d gotten only 90 minutes of sleep and had a pounding headache the rest of the day.
Oliver’s fingers make their way to the outside of her thigh as he traces over the 4 inch long scar she has there. “I’ve been meaning to ask… Where did you get this?”
“Oh,” she chuckles, as the memory comes back to her. “That would be the infamous scuba diving incident.”
Oliver sends her a questioning look.
“About a year after you went missing, Tommy took me to Thailand. I guess it was his way of trying to cheer me up.”
“Okay,” Oliver says, his voice doing this gravely thing it does when he’s trying not to be jealous or upset about all the time he’s missed. “That doesn’t explain the scar.”
Felicity rolls over onto her back so that she can pull Oliver down on top of her and wrap her arms around him. She’s found that he doesn’t like talking much anymore, especially about his feelings of isolation and pain, but laying in her arms seems to bring him some relief. He likes to rest his ear against her heart while she runs her fingers through his hair.
“Tommy forced me out onto a boat, determined that I would become scuba certified. He was young and naive… He didn’t know about how spectacularly uncoordinated I am.”
Oliver snorts at that, letting her know that he can’t be feeling that upset, but she keeps running her hands through his hair all the same.
“So what happened?” he asks.
“I blew out my eardrum, then fell, bumped my head pretty good, and sliced open my leg trying to get back onto the boat,” she says. “I was deaf in one ear for two weeks and got 6 stitches from a quote-unquote doctor named Big Louie in what they claimed was a doctor’s office but looked suspiciously like a restaurant.”
“Tommy didn’t take you to a hospital?” Oliver growls, and Felicity can see that he’s ready to march across the hall and have a few choice words with Tommy.
“Relax,” she says. “It was nothing a bandage, an ice pack, and a cold beer couldn’t fix.”
“You should have gone to a real hospital,” he says, tracing over her scar repeatedly.
She runs her fingers over his own scars and waits for him to look up at her so she can send him a pointed look. He’s one to talk.
“Tommy should have known better,” Oliver grumbles. “He should have taken better care of you.”
“Tommy took great care of me,” she says. “I’m fine. I’m still alive. No infections or anything. Now it’s just a funny story to tell at parties.”
Oliver sighs deeply, resting his head back against her chest and says no more. She can tell that it’s still bothering him though.
“What?” she asks.
“I feel like you had an entire life without me.”
The words tug at Felicity’s heart. Thinking back on how much he missed during those five years is never fun.
“I did,” she says sadly. “So did you…”
His body tenses and she runs her hands up and down his back to try and help him relax.
“Oliver, we can’t pretend like those five years didn’t exist,” she says. “They did. And they were awful. I know you hear Tommy and I tell you funny stories from your time away and it probably seems like we were happy without you. We weren’t. Those good times were few and far between. Stolen moments between the misery. We’re much happier now that you’re back.”
Oliver lifts his head up to look her in the eyes. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” she says with a smile, leaning in to kiss him.
When he pulls away, his face is looking a lot less troubled. “So how did Tommy convince you to travel to Thailand?”
“He didn’t,” she says with a shrug. “He literally picked me up over his shoulder and kidnapped me.”
“He did what?!”
****
Starling City 2008
Felicity is sitting on her couch in her pajamas with a bottle of red breathing on the table. It’s a Friday night and she fully intends to spend the entire weekend binge watching Doctor Who and never leaving her couch.
She’s just queued up the first episode and poured herself a healthy serving when the door swings open and Tommy strolls in with a smile that just spells trouble.
“As I suspected,” Tommy says with a tutting of his tongue.
“I thought you were spending the weekend with Chastity,” she says with an annoyed sigh. She really thought she’d have the apartment to herself so that she wouldn’t have to deal with his judgement for her couch potato ways.
“It’s Charity, and no,” Tommy says. “I cancelled my plans, because this is a much more serious matter.”
He gestures at her wildly, which is nothing new. He’s forever appalled that she doesn’t spend every weekend drowning her sorrows in the bottle with him.
“You should call her back,” she says, but he shakes his head.
When she pointedly ignores him and turns the volume on the TV up, he moves to stand in front of her, blocking her view.
“Tommy,” she grumbles.
“It’s been a year to the day,” he says with a sad look.
“Why do you think I’m drinking?” she asks, holding up her glass in silent cheers before downing the entire thing.
The last thing she needs is a heart to heart with Tommy on a day where she’s already feeling like she’s about to break into thousands of little pieces that will never get put back together again.
A year ago today, Oliver went missing. A year ago, the Gambit was lost at sea and her entire world fell apart.
She doesn’t need the reminder. She knows today’s date. She’s been counting down to it with increasing dread all month. She will no longer count his absence from her life in days, weeks, or months. It will be in years and that’s terrifying.
“Aren’t you tired of feeling like this?” he asks.
She knows it’s not judgement. He’s not just talking about her, he’s talking about himself.
The two of them have been going through the motions of life ever since the Gambit went down. Both of them have gone to therapy to try and get passed the depression Oliver’s disappearance put them in, but neither the therapy or the anti-depressants seem to be working. Tommy still goes out most nights burying his pain in pretty woman and she still spends most evenings on the couch pretending the real world doesn’t exist.
Felicity lets out a deep sigh.
Of course she’s tired of feeling like this. If she knew how to make the pain stop, she would have done something by now. But after Cooper left, Oliver was the only thing that held her together. When Oliver left, she had nobody. Tommy was there… has been there since the day Oliver left, but it’s not like they are best friends. They both stand by each other because it makes them feel closer to Oliver. But the truth is, they don’t have a lot in common and apart from cleaning each other up when their depression gets the best of them, they don’t really share much with each other. They are roommates, but Tommy is not Oliver. He never will be.
“Okay,” Tommy says, nodding his head like he’s decided something. “That’s it. You’re coming with me.”
Tommy moves over to the sofa and picks her up off the couch and throws her over his shoulder, causing her to shriek.
“What are you doing?” she yells. “Put me down!”
“No can do, Smoak,” Tommy says. “I cannot watch you spend another weekend on this couch. You’re coming with me.”
He walks them to the front door, all the while, she’s terrified he’s going to drop her, but thankfully, he doesn’t.
“Jesus, Smoak,” he says. “Are you sure you’re eating? You’re barely 100 pounds. I knew you were getting too thin.”
“Let me down!” she yells at him, smacking at his back as he grabs her purse off of the table and opens the door.
“Just relax,” he says, like it’s no big deal.
“Tommy Merlyn! You put me down this instant!” she yells as he locks the door behind them and heads down the hall and towards the elevator.
A few of their neighbors open their doors to see what all the commotion is about, but quickly close them again when they see who it is.
“I’m not even dressed!” she complains, moving her hands to cover her butt, which has to be hanging out of her shorts. She isn’t exactly wearing her nice pajamas. These are the pajamas that she’s had since high school that nobody is ever supposed to see her in.
“We’ll get you some clothes when we get there,” he informs her, refusing to put her down as they step into the elevator.
“Where are we going?” she asks, sighing in defeat when she realizes that yelling and hitting him is getting her nowhere. Perhaps she can reason with him.
“Somewhere where it’s impossible to stay sad,” he tells her.
“Lou’s Bakery?” she asks. Actually, one of his giant chocolate chip cookies does sound amazing.
Tommy doesn’t answer her, so she keeps guessing at various places around the city she thinks he might bring her. He can’t really take her clubbing in her current attire. Even with Tommy Merlyn’s money, she’s sure no place would allow her in looking like she does.
There’s a driver waiting for them at the curb, letting her know that whatever this is, it had been planned. He helps her into the car and gets in after her, telling the driver to lock the doors so she won’t escape.
“Really?” she asks, unamused.
He just smirks at her.
“Where are you taking me, Tommy?” she asks, sitting back in the seat and crossing her arms. She looks out the window mournfully. So much for her date with The Doctor.
“You’ll find out when we get there,” he says.
“If you’re trying to recreate something here, you should know that Oliver never would have done this,” she grumbles.
“Not because he didn’t think about it,” Tommy says. “He was just scared of your loud voice and I’m immune.”
They pull up to an airstrip and Felicity’s heart drops.
“No,” she shakes her head as she realizes his plans.
“Yes,” he says with an amused smile.
“No,” she says sternly. “I’m not joking, Tommy. I’m not getting on a plane with you.”
“Where’s your sense of adventure, Smoak?” he says, opening the door.
Sense of adventure? She scoffs. She has no sense of adventure. Her sense of adventure died when Cooper was arrested. Any lingering desire to experience the world disappeared when The Gambit went missing. Felicity prefers to play it safe.
She seriously debates making a run for it, but she doesn’t think she’d get very far. For starters, she has no shoes. She has no cell phone. She eyes her purse that Tommy has tucked under his arm. If she could get to her wallet, she could use a payphone to call a cab. There still has to be payphones in Starling City, right?
“‘Lis,” Tommy says, seriously. “Just come with me. I promise, you’ll have fun.”
“Tell me where we are going,” she says, even though she has no intention of going anywhere with him.
He shakes his head.
She grumbles. Oliver would never have done this to her. He would have asked first, and respected her when she said no. He’d convince her to take a vacation, sure, but a planned one. That she could pack for. And request time away from work.
She wouldn’t be at an airport in her worst pair of pajamas without any shoes or luggage.
“Felicity.” He waits until she’s looking at him. “I need this,” he says seriously.
Well… that’s not exactly fair. He knows that she can’t say no if he’s looking at her like that... Like his entire world is two seconds from imploding and if he can’t keep the party going, then he’s not going to make it.
Tommy is Oliver’s best friend. If he’s in need, Oliver would want her to help him. Oliver would have already been on the plane with Tommy.
“How far is it?” she asks, knowing she’s going to have to go along with whatever insane idea he’s got.
“It’s not far,” he says, and she curses the fact that she can’t read him like she used to be able to read Oliver. She has no way of knowing if he’s lying or not.
“I have to work on Monday,” she tells him.
“My name is on the building,” he says. “One of the benefits is that you get to go on adventures with me and nobody can fire you.”
“No, they can just judge me and whisper about how they think I’m trying to sleep my way to the top,” she grumbles.
“If you really wanted to sleep your way to the top, you’d sleep with my father,” Tommy says, making them both cringe. “Besides, we aren’t having sex. We’re just going on a trip together. Come on… live in the moment.”
Live in the moment . It’s what Oliver used to say to her.
The words pull at her heart painfully as she remembers how he used to say those words to her whenever he thought she was getting too into her head.
She misses him so much. Most days, it takes everything in her just to get out of bed. When she does manage to survive another week without him, she wants nothing more than to collapse on the couch and drown out the world. Life without him isn’t right. There’s always something just a bit off. Every day comes with reminders. She still finds herself picking up the phone to call him most days before she remembers.
“It’s been a year,” she whispers, still surprised that she’s managed to survive so long without him.
“I know,” Tommy says sadly. “You know… Oliver used to go on these adventures with me.”
“He told me,” she says with a sad smile.
“I miss him,” he says, and she can see the tears in his eyes threatening to fall.
Tommy has been every bit the mess that she’s been. Oliver had been his brother. The only real family he had, since his father is distant and cold most of the time.
She reaches out to pull him into a hug. “I miss him, too.”
When they pull apart, Felicity sighs. She’s really going to do this, then. For Tommy. For Oliver.
She’s going to get on a plane with no luggage. No clear idea where she’s going. And no Earthly idea of when she’ll be back.
They walk to the plane, where the pilot greets them.
“I trust that you both have your passports?” the pilot asks.
“Passports?!” she asks, feeling her stomach drop. “Where the hell are we going?”
“To—” the pilot starts to say, but Tommy cuts him off.
“It’s a surprise.”
“I don’t have my passport. It’s in Vegas,” she says, not in the least bit disappointed for having derailed their plans. They’ll just have to downsize their adventure. Darn.
Tommy smiles at her like she’s missing something obvious as he pulls her passport out of his pocket. “As if I wouldn’t cover all bases. Your mom FedEx’d it to me.”
“You involved my mother?” she asks, smacking his arm hard.
“Had to make sure you weren’t reported missing,” he says, taking her hand and pulling her up the stairs to the plane. “You know kidnapping is a felony. And I’m too pretty for jail.”
“You realize it’s still kidnapping even if you involve my mother. I’m over 18,” she says.
“Only if you’re reported missing,” he says, and she glares at him, playfully.
“Don’t forget I can hack any network,” she threatens. “I can make sure that your cellmate is some T-Bag wannabe that makes you hold their pocket.”
“They should be so lucky,” he says. “I’m a catch.”
She rolls her eyes and takes her seat.
The plane is nice. She’s never been on a private jet before. Oliver used to offer her his family’s jet when they were kids and he wanted her to come to Starling, but her mother thought that was way too much. And when they got to college and Oliver offered her the jet to go back and forth from Vegas to MIT, she thought it was a ridiculous strain on the environment. Who needs to use all the fuel to fly a private jet across the country when she was just as content to ride commerical with the other common folk?
But as much as she tries to stay humble and avoid anything too opulent living with Tommy, she has to admit that flying private has some serious perks. Like getting an entire couch to herself and a big screen TV that already has Doctor Who pulled up.
She smiles at Tommy and he winks at her.
“Enjoy your date with The Doctor. You’ve got enough time for a whole season.”
An entire season of Who. Just where were they going?
****
Felicity wakes up to the lights in the cabin coming back on as their flight attendant, Ashlyn, informs her that they are getting ready to land. She rubs her eyes as she tries to wake up. They’ve been in the air for nearly 18 hours by now and Felicity’s body is having a hard time adjusting. She has no idea what time it is back home or what time it is… wherever they are now.
“Where are we?” she asks, glancing across the aisle to see that Tommy is passed out.
“We will be landing in Phuket in about forty five minutes.”
“Phuket,” she says with a nod, as the fog in her head starts to clear and she processes what she'd just been told. “Wait… Phuket. We’re in Thailand?”
“We will be shortly,” Ashlyn says with smile. “Can I get you anything before we start our descent?”
Felicity shakes her head and turns to look out the window. The moon is still out so she can’t see much of the land, but the lights look pretty from up here. She can just barely make out the ocean as it reflects the moonlight. She can’t help but feel a flutter of excitement, despite her earlier reluctance. She’s never been out of the country before apart from a short road trip to Mexicali back in high school. Plus, a trip to the beach wouldn’t be the worst thing to keep her mind off of things. She can’t remember the last time she had so much as a tan line, let alone visited a beach.
“Guess the secret is out,” Tommy says, sliding out of his seat and next to her on the couch.
She smiles back at him, unable to contain her excitement. “We’re in Thailand!”
“Somebody’s changed their tune,” he says with a laugh.
“Well you didn’t tell me we were going to Thailand,” she says, turning back to the window to look out.
“If I had, you still would have protested,” Tommy says. “You’re allergic to fun. I have to drag you to go anywhere that isn’t work.”
“I’m here, aren’t I?” she says.
“Because I dragged you here,” he teases. “When we land, we’ll go to the hotel for a few more hours of sleep since it is just barely 4am here. But when we wake up, we’re going to go to the elephant sanctuary.”
“Elephants?!” she asks, looking up at him hopefully.
Elephants are her favorite animals in the world. She still has memories of when her father used to work at The Mirage and he would take her to see the elephants there. It’s one of the only happy memories she still has of him. The hotel has since retired the elephants and as happy as that makes Felicity for their sake, a part of her was sad to see one of the only remaining connections she had to her dad slip away.
“Oliver once told me you were obsessed with them,” Tommy says. “The idiot was trying to buy you an elephant for Hanukkah, but his mom wouldn’t let him.”
Felicity laughs at that. She remembers Oliver calling to tell her that very story back when she was a freshman and Oliver felt the need to apologize and explain why he’d only gotten her a stuffed elephant instead. Nevermind the fact that the stuffed elephant was actually the gift from an elephant sanctuary sent as a thank you for adopting a real elephant named Tukari who’d been rescued from a rundown zoo. There was no ‘only’ about a gift like that.
“She was rightly concerned that I wouldn’t have anywhere to put it,” Felicity said. “And apparently appalled when Oliver said they could keep it at the mansion and I would come and visit it.”
“Which do you think appauld her more: You visiting or having an elephant as a pet?” Tommy asks.
“It was probably pretty equal,” she says, rolling her eyes.
Though, to be fair, Moira hasn’t always hated her with as deep a passion as she does now. She’s never liked her, but ever since she found out about the voicemail that Oliver left Felicity before getting on the Gambit, Moira has been out for her blood.
“He was so in love with you, I don’t know how you didn’t see it,” Tommy says with a smile.
He means well, but the comment just reminds her of all the time she lost. Of what could have been… If only she’d gotten on the boat with him... If only she’d told him about her feelings earlier… If only she’d stopped him from getting on the boat… Her life is a never ending cycle of what ifs.
“Yeah,” she says, suddenly feeling all the excitement slip away as she remembers what today is.
“We’re going to find him,” he says.
“It’s been a year,” she says.
She’s trying her best to keep up the optimism, but the longer he remains missing, the harder it is to believe he’s still out there somewhere. And the less she wants to. If he did manage to survive, what kind of life is he living? If he were anywhere civilized, he would have been able to find his way back home. Reach out for help. Something… If he’s alive, that means he’s probably deserted on an island somewhere like Tom Hanks in Castaway.
And what kind of life is that ?
“We won’t stop looking,” Tommy says.
She shakes her head.
No. They’ll never stop looking for Oliver. Not as long as there’s a chance he’s still out there and needs their help.
“So what are we going to do after elephants?” she asks, trying to bring the mood back around. This trip is supposed to be helping them feel better, not make them more depressed.
“I’ve got two full weeks planned,” he says.
“Two weeks?! Some of us have jobs,” she says. Instantly thinking of all the work she’s going to be missing out on.
“Relax. My dad knows where you are. He won’t fire you. You’re the most productive person on that team and everyone knows it,” he says. “He’d be an idiot to let you go. You’d just walk right over to their competition and then they’d be really screwed.”
She rolls her eyes. Tommy is no different from Oliver in some regards. They both seriously overestimate her worth. Tommy still thinks she’s a genius because she set up their WiFi in the apartment without having to call anyone.
Of course, she is a genius, but setting up WiFi isn’t why.
“I’ve rented a private boat for island hopping. I booked you some museum tours, since you’re a nerd. I’ll be at the beach. We’re both going to do the night life. Get scuba certified. Zip line. The works.”
“I’m sorry. Scuba certified?” she says, hoping she’d heard him wrong.
“Yes. I’m doing elephants for you. We’re doing scuba for me. Ollie and I were supposed to get certified over Christmas in the Philippines, and… well…”
Felicity sighs. Well she can hardly say no now, even though she can already tell that going scuba diving is just tempting fate. She is far too uncoordinated for something like that. She’s bound to do something wrong and get eaten by a shark or something.
“Relax. I won’t let anything happen to you,” Tommy says. “Oliver gave me strict instructions before he left to take care of you, and he’ll kill me if he finds out I ever got a single scratch on you.”
“You say that like I’m a Maserati.”
“Hardly. A Maserati I could fix,” Tommy says. “I can’t buy a new Felicity Smoak.”
Felicity rolls her eyes. She’d argue his point, but she knows Oliver well enough to know that Tommy’s not exaggerating. He’s a bit of a caveman in some ways. He probably would kill Tommy if anything ever happened to her.
****
Starling City 2012
Tommy comes out of his bedroom to find Oliver at his kitchen table eating breakfast and looking at something on Felicity’s tablet. He’s surprised to see him here, since Felicity should already be at work. Not that he’s not happy to see his friend. Ollie’s been back for about a month, but Tommy still feels like he’s going to wake up at any moment and find out this has all been a giant hallucination.
“Good morning,” Tommy says.
“Morning,” Oliver responds, distracted by whatever he’s doing on the tablet.
Tommy glances over Oliver’s shoulder on the way to the kitchen to see what he’s looking at. He’s surprised to see him skimming through Felicity’s Facebook profile. He’s always hated social media.
Tommy starts the coffee maker and helps himself to one of the pieces of bacon Oliver cooked.
“You two got in late,” he comments as he leans back against the counter and waits for his coffee to finish brewing. He’d been out with some friends last night and when he’d gotten in around 2am, nobody was home. He’d suspected they’d just spent the night at Oliver’s place, but he’d heard them talking earlier this morning when Felicity was getting ready for work.
“Felicity has been helping me work at the club,” he says, finally putting the tablet down.
“You’re asking Felicity for advice on opening a nightclub?” Tommy says, amused. “I love our girl, but I doubt she has any good advice on how to make a nightclub successful.”
“No,” Oliver says with a laugh. “But she knows how to put together a business plan and a budget. I need to show my mother that I’m working on a legitimate business so she’ll stop pushing me to come work at QC.”
“Ah, numbers and budgets. Zero fun. That sounds more like Felicity,” Tommy says, grabbing his cup of coffee and a few more pieces of bacon before sitting down at the table.
“I don’t know, it looks like you’ve had a lot of fun with Felicity,” Oliver says, pushing the tablet towards him so that Tommy can see the picture he’s pulled up. It’s the one of the two of them at the elephant sanctuary in Thailand.
Tommy smiles at the memory. It’s one of the few happy times he can remember during Oliver’s five long years away when everything went to hell.
“We’ve had our moments,” he says. “I brought her to Thailand back then to help her forget about the fact that you’d been gone for a year. I remembered you’d said she liked elephants, so...”
He gestures to the picture, as it says it all. Apart from the day Felicity had bought that new geeky supercomputer or whatever it was, he’s never seen her more genuinely excited then the day she’d touched an elephant. Even when Oliver had returned, there’d been enough fear and anxiety over seeing him after so long to dampen her excitement.
“She used to be obsessed with them,” Oliver say. “Don’t you remember when she first moved here and her wardrobe was like 90% elephants?”
“Only you remember that kind of stuff,” Tommy says. “Which is why you’re dating her and I’m just the obnoxious best friend.”
“Yeah,” Oliver says with a sigh, looking off to the distance, lost in thought.
Tommy doesn’t know what happened to Oliver during those five years away. It’s easier to joke about him being a castaway than it is to think about the reality that his friend had to face. But there are times where it’s clear that Oliver isn’t the same guy that he was when he left. He’s a lot quieter now. More pensive.
Tommy doesn’t know what to say to him when he gets like this.
“You’re her best friend now,” Oliver says, sounding sad.
“I was a poor replacement for you,” Tommy reassures him.
“I’m glad that you both had each other.”
Tommy sends him a doubtful look. He doesn’t seem that thrilled about how close Felicity and him are. He’s gotten the impression a few times that Oliver is tempted to throw him through a window whenever Tommy gets too close to Felicity. There was a particularly memorable moment last week when Tommy commented on how Felicity’s ass looked in one of her dresses, that Tommy thought Oliver may actually do it. His glare was so intense that Tommy thought it’d probably scare off even the Hood Guy that’s running around Starling.
Oliver’s always been a jealous guy when it comes to Felicity. Tommy still remembers the night Oliver found out Felicity lost her virginity their senior year of high school — it had been Felicity’s first year in college since she’d graduated early. Tommy had to talk Oliver off the ledge and convince him not to skip school and hop the first plane to Boston to defend her honor. After all, having sex was something college kids did all the time — that the two of them had been doing regularly for a few years — and Oliver was going to have to either man up and confess his feelings for her or get used to plenty more stories about Felicity hooking up with other guys.
“I am,” Oliver says, nodding like he’s trying to convince himself. “I was all alone on that island and I know what it’s like to be lonely. I wouldn’t have wanted that for you both. Sometimes, it’s just hard to know that the world kept spinning without me.”
“Not because any of us wanted it to,” Tommy says. “There were many days that the only thing that got me out of bed was that promise you had me make before you left to look after Felicity.”
“Thank you.”
Tommy shakes his head. “You don’t have to thank me for that. She’s been way better for me than I’ve ever been for her.”
“I doubt that’s true,” Oliver says with a sad smile. “You’re a good friend, Tommy. And she needed somebody that was going to make sure she didn’t spend her life stuck behind a computer screen.”
Tommy nods his head in agreement. Felicity is too serious for her own good a lot of the time. If he didn’t drag her out of the house, she’d probably never leave it. Of course, now that she’s dating Oliver, she’s spending fewer nights at home on the couch.
“I know I’ve said this to Felicity, but I wanted to tell you, I’m really glad you guys finally got your act together.”
“Me, too,” Oliver says with a smile and the largest heart eyes that Tommy’s ever seen. “Felicity’s amazing… What about you? Seeing anyone?”
Tommy’s thoughts immediately go to Laurel, but he quickly shakes his head. Oliver still doesn’t know about Laurel. Tommy doesn’t know how to bring it up. He’s not even sure if there’s a reason to bring it up anymore. Laurel won’t give him the time of day.
Tommy had seen her last week at Poison when he’d gone out with some of his friends — He’d originally planned on going with Oliver as ‘research,’ but he’d ditched Tommy in favor of a quiet night in with Felicity. Tommy’d talked with Laurel for a little bit, but she hadn’t budged. Normally, she’d tell him that they were over, but after enough talking and hanging out, she’d change her tune. This time is different. This time, he’s worried they may be done for good. Finished before they ever really got a chance to get anywhere.
“You’re not seeing someone or someone isn’t seeing you?” Oliver asks with a knowing look.
Tommy’s heart sinks as he realizes that Oliver already knows.
“Who told you?”
“Nobody had to tell me,” Oliver says.
Of course they hadn’t. Oliver knows Tommy better than anyone else in the world. Or, at least, he had. Why had he ever thought he’d be able to keep this a secret from him?
“I’m sorry,” Tommy says, feeling awful. “It never should have happened. I know that you were with her before you left and me being with her violated our friendship in about 50 different ways.”
“Tommy,” Oliver cuts him off. “I was dead.”
“You weren’t,” Tommy says, shaking his head. He can’t allow Oliver to let him off the hook for this one. He’s always known how wrong it was for him to even look at Laurel, let alone fall in love with her like he has.
At first, he was just seeking her comfort on the nights that he didn’t think he’d be able to stay clean. Having sex with her was bad, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as falling off the wagon would have been. At least, that was how he justified it to himself. But all too soon, he’d fallen in love with Laurel and being with her became more addicting than any narcotic had ever been.
Still. It was wrong and he shouldn’t have done it. He’s a horrible friend.
“Laurel and I… I never should have been with her,” Oliver says. “I was in love with Felicity and it wasn’t fair to Laurel. She deserves better. If that’s you, then I’m happy for you guys.”
“It’s not me,” Tommy says. “I’m not good enough for her… I want to be, but I’m not. Which is why she won’t give me the time of day anymore.”
Oliver looks pensive for about a minute, before he sighs deeply.
“You know Felicity gets insecure sometimes about the amount of women I’ve been with,” Oliver says.
Tommy nods. He knows this. She’s told him as much when she’s asking his advice about what to wear on a date or begging for tips on how to keep Oliver’s attention. As if she needs any tricks. She’s had Oliver’s full attention since the day she stepped onto the playground in first grade.
“You and I… We haven’t given women a lot of reason to trust us,” Oliver says. “So you can’t really blame them for questioning our commitment to them. As Laurel has informed me, I’ve caused her a lot of pain. She’s probably just worried about getting hurt.”
“What do I do?” Tommy asks. “I’m serious about her, Ollie. More serious about her than I’ve ever been about anyone or anything.”
“Have you told her that?” he asks.
“I’ve tried. She doesn’t believe me,” he says with a shrug. The situation is hopeless.
“Then keep trying. Once she sees that you’re not giving up… That you’re serious, she’ll come around.”
“You think so?” he asks, perking up. Oliver has known Laurel for a long time. If he thinks there’s hope, maybe there is.
“You’re a good guy, Tommy,” Oliver says. “Once she’s able to see past the public face of Tommy Merlyn, she’ll come around.”
“Hopefully sooner rather than later,” Tommy says. “I haven’t had sex in weeks trying to prove I’m good enough for her. It’s getting to be a sad state of affairs.
Oliver laughs. “I probably wouldn’t lead with that when you talk to her.”
Tommy shakes his head. No. Oliver is probably right.
He’s also probably complaining to the wrong person. Oliver spent 5 years alone on an island. Up until recently, he’d gone a lot longer than a few weeks without getting laid.
Tommy takes their plates and mugs to the sink and rinses them out before putting them in the dishwasher.
“Did you have any plans for the day?” Tommy asks once he’s all done cleaning up the kitchen.
Oliver shakes his head.
“Perfect,” Tommy says. “It’s been getting way too serious in here. Let’s go see what kind of trouble we can stir up.”
“So long as you let me drive,” Oliver says, standing up and pulling his keys out of his pocket.
As they are walking to the car, Oliver turns to him with a mischievous smile.
“What?”
“Felicity told me about scuba diving,” he says and Tommy’s stomach instantly sinks.
If Felicity told him about scuba diving, he knows that Tommy’s the reason Felicity almost went deaf, busted open her leg, and nearly cracked open her skull.
“Listen, Ollie… I can explain…”
“No explanation necessary,” Oliver says. His tone sounds like it’s no big deal, but his face says the opposite.
“Ollie—”
“Nope,” Oliver cuts him off. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Tommy says in disbelief, trying to figure out just how mad Oliver actually is about what is now called ‘The Infamous Scuba Diving Incident.’
“Yeah. It’s fine. Accidents happen,” Oliver says, brushing him off with a wave of his hand.
“Right, accidents happen,” Tommy says, nodding along. There’s no way he’s getting off that easy. Is he? “That’s all it was. An accident. Felicity is prone to those.”
They get in the car and Oliver turns to look at him. “Oh, but Tommy?”
“Yeah…” he says slowly, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“What is it they say? An eye for an eye?” he says with a laugh that makes Tommy’s blood run cold.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?
“Do I want to know?” he asks, tentatively, knowing Oliver won’t ever truly hurt him, but that doesn’t mean much. There are far worse things he can do to get even with him.
Well, fuck.
Oliver’s laugh isn’t making him any more relaxed.
“When I do get you back… and rest assured, I will,” Oliver says. “You’ll never see it coming.”

If there’s a thing Katsuki Yuuri is really, intimately used to, that must be falling. He’s been doing just that all his life, has learned the pains and the joy of a well executed fall, has been drilled on which way to turn and how to get up. He’s prepared to rise again, every time, higher and higher, tumbling down a step just to climb two.
They say the higher you fly, the harder you fall. Failures are recognizable, merciless, because they’re messy and big, always more easily remembered than success.
By this line of reasoning, you’d think spectacular falls would also make a great noise. And sometimes, they do. But not here, not now: that’s the irony of the unforgiving ice. No matter how hard you fall, the sound of your skin scraping against the cold surface is ridiculously faint. A hollow thud, and that’s it.
No matter if you ruined your whole life or just gained a new painful bruise for your already complete collection, the noise will be the same, measly and inconspicuous. Because the real sound is the one you make, grunting or screaming or crying, and the ice doesn’t ever want to steal the spotlight.
But if the ice wants to go unnoticed, Katsuki Yuuri is the one that’s truly able to rival that desire.
That’s why he doesn’t scream. He doesn’t grunt, or murmur curses. He takes the fall as gracefully as he can, quietly, almost without breathing. Lets his strings loose, and goes limp against the freezing, unmerciful coldness against his back.
How many times has he fallen already? He lost count.
It’s not even noon, and he’d fall down trying to make a single toe loop.
Frustratingly enough, there’s not even a good reason. It’s just- that he can’t focus. His head is a tangled mess of shapeless thoughts, about nothing and everything, the next competitions who are so far away and yet seem to be looming over him.
He’s stressing out, about everything he ought to do and everything he wants to do, it feels like time is slipping through his fingers, sand in a hourglass.
Time is an illusion, a voice in his head pokes him, and it sounds like a grotesque mixture between his own voice, his therapist’s and Viktor’s.
Viktor, who is now peeking at him from above, with a concerned frown and an extended hand.
He lets himself be pulled up, and releases the breath his lungs were holding with a woosh. You can do anything you set your mind to do, the voice tries, and his smile is a little frail at the edges when he says “It’s nothing, don’t worry.”
Viktor doesn’t reply. He entwines their fingers and guides him to the edge of the rink, where Yakov is fake-casually leaning, a grimace already twisting his features.
He can’t even protest when Viktor just pulls him off the ice with him and kneels down to put both their guards on, because there’s nothing that he wants more than stop skating, today. Just for today.
He’s about to feel guilty, but Viktor is chirruping “Yakov, we’re taking a day off,” and dragging him to the lockers without waiting for a reaction, helping him to change back into casual clothes, and the sound of rustling fabric and Viktor’s gentle hands are heartbreakingly soft.
“Little star,” he calls, and caresses his hair, boops his nose “Let’s go home, okay?”
He already feels more put together when he whispers back, “Okay.”
Makkachin paws at their legs and lolls his red tongue out, pants happily and woofs. He’s overjoyed they’re back so early, and Yuuri’s heart is clay, shapes itself around Viktor’s fingers that tug him properly inside the apartment and into the sweetest of kisses.
“Oh, my love,” he murmurs against his lips, and his arms press against Yuuri’s back, strong and reassuring.
When they part, just for long enough to shed their coats, Viktor smile is dazzling. “I thought about a plan for today!”
One of his hands comes up, index raised “First, I’ll draw you a bath,” the middle raises too “while you’re in there, I’ll cook something,” his thumb next “and then we’ll watch a movie on the couch! What do you say?”
He grins toothily, then extends his other fingers too, the golden ring glinting as he shakes the open palm under his nose. “Today is for cuddling!” he calls, and giggles.
Yuuri’s eyes get big and his mouth curls in a fond smile without him even realizing. There’s only a thing he could object, but Viktor has a point. A hint of regret must pass on his face, though, because Viktor tips his head to the side and makes and inquisitive noise.
“Ah! Of course we could also bathe together, if that’s what you want,” he assures, and Yuuri flushes, because that’s exactly what he was thinking. It’s almost scary how deeply Viktor has come to understand him.
He’s woven himself into the creases of his soul, growing ivy into the cracks, and it’s Yuuri who let him - and he’s never, not once, regretted his choice.
They shed their clothes quickly, Yuuri putting them in the laundry basket while Viktor fills the tub.
It's almost ridiculous, sharing his space with Viktor so comfortably. He’ll probably never get used to it, because Viktor is bright as the sun, blinding, even now. And seeing him buck naked, already submerged halfway into the water, arms outstretched invitingly towards him, sends a pang of almost painful relief in his heart.
Viktor insists on washing his hair with his outrageously expensive shampoo, cuddled impossibly close, long legs curled around his hips. He’s humming an indistinct tune under his breath, dipping soapy fingers into black locks, and Yuuri closes his eyes and lets his mind drift, toes twitching underwater in time with the rhythm.
When they’re both admittedly more than clean enough, they just stay there, pressed against each other, dripping, until the water gets cold and the pads of their fingers get wrinkly and soft, thing that always delights Viktor to no end.
Feeling floaty, Yuuri accepts the freshly washed clothes Viktor pushes into his hands, and if they’re suspiciously bigger than usual, almost like they’re not his - he can clearly recognize the worn material of Viktor’s favourite white t-shirt, the one he could practically swim into - that’s a secret Yuuri is ready to keep, because they’re also soft and smell delicious.
As it turns out, they really don’t want to cook. “It’s your day off, I’ll do it” Viktor tries valiantly, shuffling his now socked feet to the kitchen, but just as he’s opening a cupboard, Yuuri noses at his neck and “I’m not even hungry yet, let’s order take out?”
Viktor turns around. “Yuuri, I love you so much,” he sighs, seemingly awestruck. Big hands frame his face, delicately, thumbs at the corner of his eyes, and Viktor’s mouth closes softly first against the tip of his nose, then all over the rest of his skin, peppering it with butterfly kisses. Yuuri giggles, blushes wildly and doesn’t even try to get away.
They end up on the couch, tv tuned on some rerun of an old drama that they both don’t care the slightest about, Makkachin a fluffy, warm lump of fur curled up at their feet. Viktor is twirling Yuuri’s hair between his fingers, nose cold against his nape, still humming broken notes. The melody is starting to get shape, and when Yuuri finally recognizes it, he smiles.
“I know what I want to watch,” he chuckles, and ignores Viktor’s whine when he raises up and away from his arms.
“Two minutes,” he promises, and skips down the corridor and into the bedroom to retrieve his laptop.
When the familiar blue frame lights up the screen, Viktor squeals. “Howl’s Moving Castle?”
They have this inside joke that Viktor would totally be the Howl to Yuuri’s Sophie: for one, he’d be dramatic enough about his hair to summon dark spirits and suddenly faint. If he had the possibility, there’s no guarantee he wouldn’t have already.
Also, don’t tell Viktor, but Yuuri has had the biggest crush on Howl since he first saw the movie, a fresh faced kid with sparkly eyes and still a reasonable amount of ice skating paraphernalia - you could tell him, because they’re actually scarily similar and Viktor kind of already knows, but he’d make a (fake) scene about being jealous anyway.
While Viktor mouths Howl’s lines in his ear with a theatrical pitch, Yuuri can’t help but think about how he’s grateful this is his life.
Of course he still has a lot of things to do, things he’ll worry about no matter what, most probably tomorrow first thing in the morning, but he has Viktor, now and possibly forever - and for all the moaning about him not being able to use magic (why can’t I transform into a bird too? Wouldn’t that be cool? I’d take you with me anywhere, of course!), he actually has the best power Yuuri could ask for: the one to make Yuuri stop in his frantic, panicked tracks, and breathe.
No matter how many times he may chant it in his head, Viktor is the only one that makes him believe that he can do anything, that they have all the time in the world.
“That’s right, don’t be scared,” Viktor quotes, delightedly, and it’s about Howl and Sophie floating joyously on the heads of clueless citizens, but when Yuuri settles more comfortably against his husband’s chest and whispers “I’m not” they both know he’s not talking about that at all.

Chapter 27: Sometimes I Can’t See Myself
Rating: T Fandom: The 100 Pairing: Bellamy x Clarke Chapter: 27/? Word Count: 1268 Words
Chapter Summary: The one with yet another unwelcome visitor. How many unwelcome visitors could there be?
Also on AO3
It was unseasonably warm outside. The sun shone so brightly that Clarke had to drag her sunglasses out of her desk and put them back in her purse. She was perfectly comfortable in the thin sweater she had on. Her jacket was still tucked away in her book bag, but she would probably be home before it cooled down enough to actually need it. Finn was late, but he was considerate enough that he had texted her to let her know.
The ‘thing’ with Finn had been going on for a few weeks. She liked it. She liked him. They met a few days a week for coffee between their classes, he had taken her on a couple of nice dates, and the sex was nothing to complain about. Octavia told her she was much easier to handle when she was getting laid regularly, and Clarke wasn’t really sure if she should have been offended by that. She was really just grateful that O had made it through a movie night without throwing anything at Bellamy. They hadn’t said a word to each other, but the group had been together again for a couple of hours, and it made everything feel a little lighter.
Things were going so well with everything. Clarke even remembered Finn’s coffee order. It wasn’t a hard order to remember, but she hid from dating opportunities her freshman year and she had been worried she would be a little out of practice. She hummed to herself as she added the two raw sugars to Finn’s latte and someone bumped into her, causing her to spill a bit of her own coffee.
When Clarke spun around, she was face to face with one of the most beautiful women she had ever seen since she met Octavia.
“Oh my god, I’m so, so sorry,” the girl said, smoothing her hands over her hair even though her long brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail. Her brown eyes were so wide that she looked like she belonged in a Disney movie. And her skin was just… flawless. Clarke was jealous. “I’m so sorry! I’m just so lost.”
“Don’t worry about it! No harm done.” She smiled when the girl still didn’t look like she felt better. “Seriously.”
“At least let me replace your coffee.”
“It’s not a big deal. Only a little bit spilled. I could probably do with lowering my caffeine intake anyway. One of my best friends has been giving me a really hard time about it and is threatening not to serve me anymore. Which is why I’m here and not where he works.” Clarke grinned again, and this time, the girl actually smiled back.
“Do you go here?”
“I do. Are you… new? Transferring in?” It was the middle of the first quarter. There weren’t many other reasons she could think of that someone wouldn’t know their way around.
“I’m thinking about it. My boyfriend goes here. We’re uh…. Things have been rough long distance, so I came here to surprise him. Seven hour drive, so I’m sure I look kind of ragged.” She shrugged and Clarke rolled her eyes without dropping her smile. “Do you think you could tell me where McCormick Hall is? That’s where his next class it. And I swear I’m not a crazy stalker. His mom told me his schedule.”
Clarke laughed. “We’re really close to McCormick. I’m actually meeting a friend here who has a class over there in about forty-five minutes. Do you want to hang out with us and then he can walk you over?”
“That would be great!” She held out her hand. “I’m Raven, by the way.”
Clarke hovered next to Raven while she waited in the coffee line and had to make sure the barista did not actually replace her coffee. She learned that Raven was majoring in Aeronautical Engineering back at her school, because she wanted to build everything from airplanes to rocket ships. She took apart cars on the weekend for fun and used to build random things out of scrap metal when she was a kid. Her boyfriend’s family was like her family, because her own parents were shit, and they had even bought her the very first tool kit she ever owned.
“—and they caught me, elbow deep in their speedboat engine. I was so lucky they didn’t kick me out! I was just twelve, but I really wanted to figure out how it worked!”
“Raven?!”
A sudden dread filled Clarke when she heard Finn’s voice crack behind her. She spun around, but it was like everything was happening around her in slow motion. Raven jumped up out of her chair to run to Finn, throwing her arms around his neck. He was touching her shoulders and her arms like he wasn’t sure she was actually real, and Clarke thought she might actually throw up when Raven kissed him passionately, knocking him back a few steps. Clarke didn’t know why she wasn’t moving; why she was just standing there watching the guy she liked make out with his… with his girlfriend. And when she realized she needed to leave, Raven realized that Clarke was still standing there.
“Clarke! This is—“
“Finn. Yeah. I know.”
“Oh, do you two know each other?”
Clarke pointedly avoided looking at Finn, even though she could see him staring at her out of the corner of her eye. “This is the friend I was saying could help you find your boyfriend.”
“Small world!” Raven grinned at Clarke, and then turned it back to Finn.
“Yeah… small world,” he said weakly.
Clarke pulled her phone out of her purse and put on a face of mock-disappointment. “Oh, you know what? I have to go. My roommate is already at our pre-calc class, and she wants me there, like now.”
“You can’t stay?” Raven asked.
“No. No, she wants to go over some… um, some formulas… about limits or something. I’ll just let you two catch up.”
She grabbed her coffee and started walking away, swallowing hard.
“Clarke….” Finn’s voice trailed off and she didn’t look back.
“I’ll see you guys later!”
She didn’t go to class. She couldn’t. Octavia would see that something was wrong immediately, so she went to their room instead. About ten minutes into her class, her phone started buzzing.
Jasper 12:41pm Clarke, where are you?
Monty 12:41pm You okay?
Octavia 12:41pm ARE YOU DEAD? If you don’t text me back within 5 minutes, I’m assuming the worst and calling the police.
Clarke sent quick messages to Jasper and Monty, but knew that O wouldn’t be satisfied with her weak attempts at excuses.
Clarke 12:43pm I’m alive. Sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you.
Octavia: 12:44pm Did you ditch to get yourself all preeeeeetty for your date tonight?
Clarke 12:48pm Um… not really. Date got cancelled.
Octavia 12:49pm Do I need to kick someone’s ass?
Clarke 12:54pm No! It was me. I think I need some time with you guys, instead, if that’s cool. Isn’t Harper having a party tonight?
Octavia 12:55pm … you know you’re lucky I love you. Because I’m not really feeling the whole seeing Bellamy thing.
Clarke 12:57pm Pleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase? They have the best games and I need to get drunk.
Octavia 12:59pm Okay. But you owe me! And only because you used so many vowels and I’m so proooooooooooooouuuuuud of my baby. 1:00pm The padawan has become the master.
Clarke 1:02pm I’m going to tell Jasper how horribly you butchered that quote….
Octavia 1:03pm No!!!!!!!!!!! Please don’t. I’ll do aaaaaaaanything. He’ll be so mad.
Clarke 1:05pm Great! As long as we're going to that party, I'll take your secret to my grave.

Why Perception is so Important in Maleficent
Tumblr media
Director: Robert Stromberg
Starring: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley
                              **Warning, this does contain Spoilers**
A quote about perception has always stuck with me. It goes something along the lines of: “when you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change.” This quote applies to this movie perfectly, as Maleficent revolves around the concept that perception, or more specifically, the point of view this beloved fairy tale is told in changes the story overall.
We as viewers gain a whole new perspective from Maleficent’s retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story. But more precisely we are provided a vivid backstory as to why the sleeping curse is placed upon Aurora in the first place.
Most viewers and readers of Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty fairy tale and later film however not the original Grimm Brother’s tale, because that is a whole other story in itself, and let me just say, Prince Phillip isn’t so charming in that story did not really require a clear motive as to why Maleficent curses such a beautiful child.
The only motive remotely present was that she was insanely jealous and consumed by her own madness.  However, in this film, we are provided a motive, that makes us somehow side with and to some extent even relate to Maleficent, revenge.
                                                    Good vs. Evil
Good vs. Evil is a major theme this movie focuses on, but even this too becomes apparent with a matter of perception. Good and evil are anything but distinct in this film, there is a blurred line between the two, and as the film progresses this transparent line only proves to deteriorate.  Maleficent is evil and that’s how it’s supposed to be, yet at the beginning of the film, her younger self is so innocent and pure.
She protects her land with all her might and stands up for the smaller creatures around her. She is truly loved by all and reciprocates that love back onto others. Even as David, the poor boy we are introduced to near the beginning of the film, is caught stealing, she does not punish him nor at the dire extent, execute him, as you would expect a true villain to do. Instead, she befriends him and shows him her gracious love and generosity.
Even her eventual descent to the “dark side” was not a choice she simply made one day, but was nurtured and eventually thrust forth by the act of true betrayal, David cutting off Maleficent’s wings. Towards the end of the film, Maleficient even acknowledges this as she cries beside sleeping Aurora, just how regretful she is for creating this spell in the first place. But this curse can be traced back to David’s actions, as mentioned above.
David too started off as sweet and innocent, his most arguably gracious act of love in the entire film was throwing away his iron ring because it burned Maleficent every time it came into contact with her skin, for iron burns fairies. David made it apparent that coming from a poor family, he had so little.
We can assume that the ring was likely the most expensive thing he owned, yet truly without a second thought, he got rid of it. He demonstrates his true goodness through this act, yet like Maleficent he descends, perhaps even quicker, into evil and eventual madness. His motivation for stealing Maleficent’s wings----
Tumblr media
a moment in the film that really hits deep, especially Maleficient’s brutal shrieks, is greed. Tracing back to the near beginning of the film, David told Maleficent that he would one day live in the castle.
May I add that cutting off your sort-of-girlfriend’s wings to prove to the dying King that you killed the winged-beast (👏 your girlfriend 👏) that terribly injured him, was probably not the best way to gain the throne. But hey, what do I know, I’m sitting here alone typing on my laptop, while you David are King, so David 1. Amanda 0.
It becomes evident rather quickly, that we’ve had the Sleeping Beauty tale wrong all along. Since in both the original telling of the story, as well as this films retelling, Aurora has always been the victim (but she is not the only victim, but we will look at that in a little while), and if there’s anything Disney films have taught us, it's that if there's a victim, then there always has to be a villain.  However, Maleficent is not the true villain in the story, even though she did curse Aurora, the true antagonist is David.
It's obvious that this was the intent of the film, getting the villain’s side of the tale, and proving that things are not always as they seem. They even go so far as to show us how quick we are to jump to conclusions. In Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is the villain and we have no doubt about it, however, we never stop to consider just why she did what she did, and this film really helps clear all this up.  Sure, David did not curse his own daughter, but his devious actions were the driving force that ultimately drove Maleficent to curse baby Aurora.
This leads to another theme folded into the mess of a story that is Maleficent, true love. “Before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday she will prick her finger and fall into an infinite sleep, that can only be broken by true loves first kiss.” (Via. Maleficent)
                                                   True love
True love is a concept that revolves around almost all fairy tale stories, especially Disney's. Our first introduction to true love in this film, or so it appeared to be, is Maleficent and David. Even at a young age, the audience witnesses the sparks between the two characters, that only continues to flourish into their late teens, however not without some bumps along the way.
The next main moment is between Aurora and Prince Phillip, they both seemed to be mesmerized as they stared at each other as if they “zinged” (Hotel Transylvania reference).
Tumblr media
This is the classic love at first sight moment, and from our prior knowledge of this fairy tale, the viewer automatically thinks "don't worry Aurora, Prince Phillip will save you, he will be your true love's first kiss, no need to worry." But there's a whole lot to worry about because as the film progresses from that point, and Phillip does eventually kiss the sleeping beauty, he is unsuccessful in breaking the spell.
This leads to perhaps the biggest notion of true love in the film, Maleficent’s curse. Maleficent even states in the film that the reason the curse can only be undone with “true love’s kiss,” is because she knows, from her prior experience with the King of douchebags, that true love does not exist. Or so she believed.
Once Prince Phillip is pushed into the room by the three fairies where Aurora lay sleeping, kisses her and essentially fails to wake her up (as previously mentioned above), Maleficent grieves on how sorry she is. She admits that she has grown to love Aurora as if she were her own daughter. As Maleficent cries beside Aurora, she leans down and kisses her forehead, and just as all hope seems gone, Aurora wakes up.
Tumblr media
This was perhaps the greatest moment of the entire film, and it truly blew me away. The fact that this whole time I grew up believing that Prince Phillip was the one who broke the curse, rescuing Aurora and eventually marrying her, when meanwhile it had been Maleficent, the perceived anti-hero, who had saved Aurora behind the scenes.
Even in this film, no one in the diegesis (well other than Maleficent, Aurora and Diaval) will truly know that it was not Phillip’s kiss that awoke the sleeping beauty, and will go on to believe that Phillip is the true hero in all of this just as we viewers were so foolishly quick to believe without question in Disney’s original rendition.
And poof * mind blown *
Tumblr media
In the reality of it, it was the true love of a “mother” for her daughter that broke the curse, proving that true love cannot exist simply at first sight, but takes time to nourish and grow, just as it did with Maleficent and Aurora throughout the film. It is a love that could heal emotional wounds, a love that could warm a turned-cold heart, a love that would protect the other above all, a love in which one would give themselves up for the other, and a love that would last even after tragedy.
To finally tie it all up together, this concept of true love truly interconnects with the concept of good and evil, as Maleficent being the one to break her own indestructible spell, elicits the point that Maleficent was never truly evil, she instead let the fury of revenge consume her to the point that she lost sight of her true good nature, which is fully restored at the end of the film.
It is evident throughout Maleficent that perception is crucial, and these main themes and concepts only go to prove that, but the evidence is not limited to just these events I mentioned above, there are many more gems throughout the film to further solidify these points. I’m however going to leave it there because I’m sure you’re tired of reading, in fact I applaud you if you’ve made it this far. 👏👏 But none-the-less thanks for reading and I hope I was able to change your perception. See what I did there.  😉
In the wise words of Shane Dawson, I’ll go home. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
