☆ 26.04.2024 ~ Friday ☆
Yesterday we were tasked with sitting in on a trial at the crown court instead of our normal lectures, of course I couldn't get any photos but it was all incredibly interesting! ⚖️💼
I wanted to go back today to see the end of the trail but it ended up being adjourned until Monday, which means I'll miss the last day as I'm going on holiday with my boyfriend for a couple of days, and we come back Monday evening!
A friend of mine is going to watch the trial on Monday so at least I should find out what happened and what the verdict ends up being.
Next time I have a week off uni I might have to try and catch a whole trial from start to finish, I absolutely loved sitting in on the court proceedings and seeing how everything worked behind the scenes! 🧑🏻‍⚖️
☆ What's something surprising that you've found yourself enjoying recently?

The reality of going away in the second week of semester…
Me and my sister found this beautiful coffee shop to have breakfast at and then heading back to our room to frantically try and squeeze in all our readings before the Harry concert.
It was so nice to study with her for once! We live in different cities so never see each other and she’s just started at uni so is learning to study in a whole new way which is very exciting.

im about to take my first intro to criminal justice class, do you have any tips or things I should know?
-a brand new first year uni student
hi! tysm for the ask! :)
i hope you enjoy the class - criminology can be really interesting and you'll learn a *lot* that'll change ur whole perspective on things!!
in terms of tips:
keep in mind that the content can be kind of heavy sometimes, so don't be ashamed to excuse urself from class or to take a break from studying!! we have a case study for every class and it can be really upsetting to hear things outside the safe theoretical classroom lens.
but also, finding real life examples can make some of the less interesting topics more engaging so... it's a double edged sword i think ...
come to class prepared bc i found that the discussions in my criminology classes are some of the most interesting !! people often have very contrasting opinions (especially when it comes to things like the death penalty, punitivism, and differences in sentencing for men vs women) !!
read / watch around the subject!! some recs: gang leader for a day, on the run (alice goffman), convicts with cameras, & puppies for prisoners !!
i hope u enjoy the class!! :)

I'm still working on my plastic waste report, but hoping and crossing all my fingers that ill have the motivation to finish it before I go on my holiday this weekend!
☆ what is your largest project that you're working on right now?
~ for me it's currently this 2,000 word report!

The Great Greek Hiatus
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hello everyone :)
Apologies for not posting in months, I was tying up the loose ends of my first year at university, which I'm pleased to tell you is now complete (at least, the coursework is done - I'm still volunteering)!
The psychology department ran a trip to Athens, Greece in May - it was amazing to see the home of philosophy and visit the typical tourist attractions. What was not on the cards, though, was stumbling upon a Criminology Museum ran by the University of Athens.
Despite it being closed and appointment-only, my professor somehow persuaded the staff to let us in, and we were given an exclusive tour by a PhD student of Toxicology writing her thesis on decomposition (a rare sight by UK forensic degree standards!)
It was so interesting to see real artefacts from ancient crime scenes and specimen jars filled with things I won't disclose... We couldn't take any pictures but I certainly won't forget anything I saw. It was definitely my personal highlight of the trip, and completely by chance too!
I'm hoping to restart this blog with some more posts in the near future, although they may not be study-related... We'll see. For now, I'll leave you with more pictures I took in Athens (as you can tell, I like pillars...) - bye!!
