summary: dinner with best friend!mingyu. you know him and he knows you – except for the little secret you both are hiding from each other :')

a/n: this is -kinda- related to this short blurb but it could also be read independently hdusikfjh i’ve been thinking a lot abt this dynamic!!!! and this is annoyingly fluff. the tension in the room whew is it hot in here or is it just me??? mingyu attending the louis vuitton show threw me over the edge

“open wide.”

your eyes narrow at your best friend from across the table. he’s attempting to feed you part of the food he’s ordered with a cheesy grin on his face. he knows you get flustered whenever he attempts any kind of public display of affection with you. he finds it endearing.

“kim mingyu, i am not three years old.” you say, making an excuse.

“come on, baby, open up.”

his words go directly to the pit of your stomach, making you shift uncomfortably in your seat.

“can’t you put it on my plate like a normal person?”

“no.”

“then i don’t want your food.”

you’re lying, and you both know it, because you had spent the last five minutes glancing at mingyu’s plate longingly. he does not break eye contact with you as he feeds himself the spoonful of food he was offering you a few seconds ago. he dramatically shuts his eyes, letting out a near-pornographic moan as he swallows. you reach over and slap his arm, glancing around the quaint restaurant to see if anyone heard him.

his eyes fly open, laughing as he watches you hide your face in embarrassment. “see, it wouldn’t have been me making that sound if you just took my offering.” mingyu doesn’t know why, but he loves getting different reactions out of you. he would make a fool out of himself any day just to see what you’d do. he wasn’t afraid of looking stupid or managing his reputation when he was with you – he knew you would accept him for who he was. just as you always have. just as you are right now. “it would’ve sounded better coming out of you.”

you grimace at how he inches his face closer to you, smirking because he knows you won’t retaliate. you break eye contact, sighing as you shove another spoonful of your food into your mouth. “you’re frustrating, kim mingyu.” you hope he doesn’t see the small tinge of pink that has colored your cheeks at the near proximity of him.

you hear mingyu chuckle then see a portion of his food getting moved onto your plate. “eat up,” he casually says. “i actually ordered this one because i knew you were choosing between this or the one you ordered.” you murmur a ‘thank you’ back, heart fluttering at his thoughtfulness.

he likes watching you – in general – and he’s never done anything to hide it. “stare any longer and we’ll end up switching bodies.” you say, taking a sip of your wine. you’d told mingyu a million times in the past that it wasn’t nice to stare at people and each time he would reply saying he only liked staring at you. he simply leans forward and continues staring at you, a small smile on his face.

“i don’t mind switching bodies, but i just like looking at you.”

“i know.”

“actually, i think i just like you.”

“i know- eh?”

he leans back in his seat after watching you, smiling. “of course i like you. who else would put up with you?” he says, raising his own glass of wine to toast you. you clink your glass with his.

“mingyu, you’re stuck with me whether you like it or not,” you say, taking another sip and emptying out your drink. “we’re both stuck to each other. we made that clear ever since we skipped class that one time and got caught skipping.” he smiles at the memory. you were having a bad day at school and all he knew was he wanted to make it better for you – whatever it took. he had grabbed your hand and walked straight out of school. it makes you smile whenever you think of how silly you two had been then, thinking everything would be okay as long as you two were together.

mingyu finishes the rest of his wine in one big sip, setting his glass down and getting up. “and i would do it again.” he says, holding out his hand for you to take. you knew leaving the restaurant didn’t mean going home yet. there was always room for dessert with mingyu.

“and i would too.” you reply, grabbing his hand and walking out of the restaurant with a smile on your face.

jaehyun: fun fact: jaehyun is my nct bias stopppppp he’d be so sleepy – constantly trying to keep his eyes open just to stay up with you. i think he’d tell you to just keep talking to him, reassure you he’s listening, and play with your hair while you’re in his arms just rambling on and on about what’s keeping you up/why you can’t sleep. he wouldn’t be much of a talker but it’s the tiny chuckles here and there while you’re talking that lets you know he’s still with you <3 im crying jae just one chance please

jungwoo: A WELL-MEANING MENACE 💀i firmly believe he would really take you not being able to sleep to heart so he’d really do anything to tire you out and make sure YOU’RE asleep before he is – even if he was ready for bed right before you told him. he’s just selfless like that i guess… he’d sit up turn the lights on start asking you so many questions that u eventually get annoyed in a lighthearted way and be like “omfg jungwoo lets just try sleeping” #casesolved #missionaccomplished but yea ur on the losing stick here bec you’re forcing HIM out of bed the next morning idk

summary: best friend!mingyu is arguably the best thing that has ever happened to you but everyone else is in love with him so you have the lucky privilege of humbling him all the time

a/n: i wanted to post this on mingyu day but i clearly didn’t make it :// just a small blurb for our birthday boy. belated happy birthday, gyu. i hope you’re smiling everyday <3 also this isnt proofread sorry! also thank u for 500 followerssssss <3 <3 <3

“not everything looks good on you, kim mingyu. reel it in a little.”

—and that makes lie number three you’ve told your best friend today. the first was telling him how tiring it was seeing his face every morning when he picked you up (it was actually the best part of your otherwise dreary day) and the second was you telling him you didn’t care if he asked this one girl out (it bothered you more than it should have).

mingyu makes eye contact with you in the mirror and scoffs at the look on your face. “i don’t know why i always bring you along with me. you never say anything looks good on me.” he starts angling himself and squinting at the mirror, probably trying to figure out if he really didn’t look good in the outfit.

it was funny to you that mingyu took everything you told him to heart. whether it be teasing him on how clumsy he could be to how much of a closet dork he was, his reactions to it all always made you laugh. you befriended mingyu in the fifth grade because you were the lone person who had the guts to tell him being tall wasn’t as big of an advantage as he thought it was; you thought it just made him more susceptible to being bossed around to do favors for everyone else shorter than him. he bickered back, saying you were just jealous because you were shorter than him. you replied saying you didn’t want to have his height if it meant not being able to handle the truth of the matter.

that was the first time someone wasn’t praising mingyu for the things he was simply born with. he thought you were being real and you thought he was cute. it was the perfect dynamic to becoming best friends.

“that’s what best friends are for,” you say. you flash him a smile and he rolls his eyes. “you know i’m hopelessly in love with you regardless of how ugly you look in that sweater anyway.”

your best friend groans then turns away from the mirror to face you. he starts striking the silliest poses at you (still managing to look good, you add in the back of your head.) he sends you a genuine smile. “i know. and i love you too.”

your heart flutters even when you know he doesn’t mean it in the way you wished he would. you continue to watch him try on clothes, happily content with wasting away your saturday afternoon like this.

“are you excited for our date tonight?” he asks you as he pays for his clothes at the register.

“i’m always excited when you’re paying.” you reply.

mingyu jokingly frowns. “sometimes i feel like you’re just using me for my money.”

“okay, but who else will put up with you?”

he reaches over and pinches your cheek, knowing you hate it when he does that. you attempt to swat his hand away but he catches it and interlocks your fingers. the cashier looks at the both of you and smiles as she hands over his bag of clothes and receipt. mingyu takes it with his free hand. “you two are so cute. enjoy the rest of your day!” you’re about to protest but mingyu simply says thank you and pulls you out of the store.

as you walk down the street with your best friend, still hand in hand, you let yourself revel in the simplicity of the moment. this would do for now – maybe forever – as long as it meant always having kim mingyu by your side.

for someone that loved staying at home, jeonghan always felt the beach was closest to it.

you watch as your husband scoops another handful of sand and lets it fall through his fingers, a smile on his face. moments like these were so precious to you – just you and your person experiencing life as it happened. he continues to toy with the sand and you can’t help but wonder how lucky you are to have ended up with your best friend. “one day, we’ll live by the beach.” he says out loud.

you save this moment in your head: yoon jeonghan, smiling with the sun in his eyes, looking at you.

“hannie, you always say that then complain about all the sand you end up bringing home later.” you could already imagine his face later when you get in the car, the cute pout he always has when he realizes how much sand is getting in the car despite washing up.

he scrunches his nose at the thought. “well, yeah, that’s the part i like the least. but look at how pretty everything is here!” he throws a handful of sand in the air, some of it landing in his hair. (and he always wondered why he brought so much sand home.) “even you look prettier,” he adds, a mischievous smile on his face.

you playfully reach over and hit him. “don’t be rude.” he chuckles and bends forward to give you a kiss on the cheek. “you know i’m kidding,” he says, capturing your face in his hands. “you’re always the prettiest.” you hope you could blame the sunlight for the color in your cheeks, but another smile forming on his face lets you know that he knows you’re blushing. it’s crazy to you that he can still make you feel this flustered years into your relationship.

his eyes drop down to your lips then back up to meet your gaze. “i want to give you the world,” he murmurs. just loud enough for only you two to hear – a wish and a promise he’s making to you and to himself.

you lean your head into the palm of his hand. “you already have, hannie.”

the action alone makes jeonghan’s heart flutter. here he is, in his favorite beach, laying in the sand with his forever lover. he wishes life would stop and let you both remain here forever. he was serious about what he said earlier. he could imagine it already: waking up next to you every morning with the beach just in your backyard. playing with your future children in the sand. grilling your family meat every night with the sound of waves crashing on the shore in the background. going on walks by the beach with you by his side every sunset.

and he loved everything about your little trips to the beach. your cheeks pink from the sun- the way you held onto him when you both would go into the water- the way your eyes would light up (in embarrassment and adoration, more of the former if he was being honest) every time he would do something out of character and cheesy like start dancing with you by the shore.

life would be so simple. he was going to make this happen.

he inches forward and places a chaste kiss on your lips, just wanting to be closer to you. he pulls away to see your eyes still closed and smiles to himself. he is so in love with you. “by the way,” he says. “you have a little sand in your hair.”

your eyes fly open and you see through jeonghan’s playful smile. you are so in love with him. “i know.”

you both are home.

and you knew that, but you also knew time would soon take him away from you again. you knew that it was only in these ungodly hours that he was really yours and yours alone.

your heart starts beating a little quicker as he pulls you in a little closer, your breathing starting to fall in sync with his. you study his facial features, so calm and serene right now. so different from how animated he usually looked on stage. you want to reach out and touch his face, anything to make this moment more real than it already is.

“i love you.”

you whisper into the darkness. the steady rise and fall of his chest lets you know he hasn’t heard a word of what you just said. it doesn’t matter. you mean it.

you go to sleep.

he’ll still be there in the morning.

wonwoo: the smart kid that does not give their notes to you. believes in the power of LEARNING by putting in the honest work. amen sir

woozi: the band geek. always bopping his head and drumming his fingers on whatever surface is in front of him (even without earphones on). people wonder what music he’s listening to in his head

minghao: the art hoe. oh u think he’s taking notes down during class? ur funny he’s actually drawing the sunlight leaking in through the classroom windows
