Academic pet peeve I'm going to complain about here instead of to anyone I work with: when people are giving an academic talk (15-minute conference talk, hour lecture, whatever) and a) go wildly over time or b) say "tell me when I get close to time and I'll speed up."

Isn't it the speaker's responsibility to have practiced their talk and manage their own time?? Obviously in a conference or something it's a tight schedule and there are moderators for a reason but what is up with people seemingly keeping NO track of time whatsoever

One thing I will never understand is why some of y'all get so mad about Buck and Eddie being roughly the same age. I don't understand how people can learn that Eddie only enlisted when Shannon got pregnant and not just assume he was 18/19 when that happened.
