SWU not MCU

One of the problems with the MCU-ification of the SWU has been highlighted in the massive delay in airing the 2nd season of The Bad Batch.

The show has been complete and ready to go for quite some time already. Remember how long ago it was that Michelle Ang posted on her Insta about having finished her voice work? Even the Kiner bros managed to drop in that they’d completed scoring for it before they started on Tales of the Jedi.

But how can you reference story beats and give yourself a big pat on the back for how very very smart you’re being when the audience hasn’t seen those stories yet?

How can we flashback to what happened to Nemmik in Andor when Andor’s filming has been delayed by Covid?

How can we be shown the parallel between Dooku and Mace’s relationship within this show if TotJ isn’t ready to air on schedule either.

As much as the stories of the SWU are interlinked by a shared universe, not all of them have to tie directly into each other, reference each other, or simply copy what’s already been done before only coming at it from a slightly different angle.

Really wanted to like Ahsoka. Enjoyed the bigger use of colour compared to the other series and the fabulous scoring (!) but the dialogue, cinematography and sfx (and I’m including hair and makeup here) kind of let it down for me and seemed incompatible with the serious chord they were trying to strike. Not a hater tho and I hardcore congratulate everyone who worked hard on it!!! It’s still a solid project. At the end of the day I’m a person that likes distinct versatile aesthetics and personality in film and I just miss the weird wonderfulness that made the prequels so visually enjoyable 😩 here’s hoping the next will incorporate more of the classic stuff that’s been missing recently.
