Who am I?

I used to be a suicidal and a self-harmer — I refuse to label myself any mental illness because I did not seek professional help. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, wherein my parents often fight and my older brother who hurt me physically and verbally did not help my mental health. 

I was top achiever student in high school but I failed one of my subjects in 8th grade — worst year during my depressive period. I was stuck in an endless rut of sadness and it took a toll on me. I regret ever starting to self-harm because until now I have the scars all over my body. I cannot wear short shorts because my scars on my thighs would show up. I also have faint scars on my wrists and keloid scars on my arms. Innumerable people have pointed them out asking what happened and I just wonder where they get the fucking audacity and insensitivity. Fortunately, I have never been disrespected or judged for my self-harm scars or else I would have to give them some.

I am proud of myself for surmounting what seemed like an insuperable situation. It has been three years since I have recovered and I am more grounded than ever. I think the person I am today is the best version of myself because I have no self to admire and look back on. I strive to be better every day in every chance I get.

I am excelling in academics wherein I am taking my chosen college program in a prestigious university in the field of education. I also have true friends I can depend on inside and outside the university. Along the years I have acquired skills and interests that I wish to enhance such as drawing, painting, writing, reading, and dancing. I also have knowledge in Korean and I am planning on learning French after I become literate in the former. My focus in studying is the English language and I would often read books on grammar and linguistics.

I have come so far from my past and I am continuously inching to improvement. I would also want to work on my face and body. I will do everything I want because I know I am capable. I am my own cheerleader.
