I thought the fact that Big Finish can no longer use images from the TVM on their covers due to rights issues was bad enough, but it suddenly struck me when I watched this 60 Years in 60 seconds video the other day and saw it wind through the 90s as though nothing had happened, that it goes much further. Although the movie is available on iPlayer, given the Eighth Doctor has been entirely represented as seen in Night and Power of the Doctor in official anniversary compilations/images it’s evident that, unlike ten years ago, even the BBC can’t use clips/photos from the TVM in new output any more.

All this just makes me even more grateful for those later appearances, as without them Paul and Eight would now be effectively wiped from the show’s history, visually at least.

#this explains why that documentary on bbc4 only covered doctors 1-7 #and there couldn’t be a tales of the TARDIS even if they did manage to get daphne over here and somehow sorted out the issues with grace #i did go and check day of the doctor on iplayer to see if it had been edited to remove the tvm footage #thankfully not #this is such a ridiculous situation #but is obviously what happens when several companies own the rights and some of them get bought up by other people #doctor who #doctor who 1996 tv movie #eighth doctor #i’m not a lawyer #i have no idea how these things work #but i’m guessing maybe the rights might now be too expensive for the bbc to think them worth paying for #and as they don’t have them they can’t then license them to big finish

Okay okay, so the set list gods were not with me tonight (cause he didn’t sing every single song ykwim) but you know what? Doesn’t even matter because the atmosphere and the quality of sound and production in that room is incomparable to the grainy livestreams we’ve survived on all year. He sounds so damn good in person. Silver Tongues is that bitch, and has always been, and will always be; she’s been a favourite from the beginning and ahhhh… yes. ahem. What a song. And wbk but he’s so charming?
