reading this again and i wanna scream because
Tumblr media
we know that the watch is a metaphor for jason trying to “fix” himself to be worthy of being bruce’s robin (*cough* son) yeah yeah, but, as jason mentions, the watch works better when it’s used, in other words, when it’s with bruce, so this is him basically asking bruce not to abandon him even though he’s still (in his eyes) broken
and if that didn’t already break my heart, i realised that that adorable little head of his had somehow convinced itself that the burden of bettering himself, of becoming a better person, (*cough* of raising him) is solely his to bear and that he shouldn’t worry bruce about it if he can help it
Tumblr media
so what does this mean then? now that jason has finally given him the watch, even after he’s been virtually abandoned, even after he’s raised himself and has become his own person?
Tumblr media
the watch works best when it’s worn or wound often, and jason himself admits in the comic that bruce probably won’t wear it a lot. so while jason can’t be with him, here he is telling bruce that he isn’t broken anymore, or at least that he’s better, but also that he still doesn’t want to be completely abandoned, and still wants to maintain somewhat of a relationship with him because, well, he needs it
the watch runs down if it isn’t wound, the same way jason, despite everything, still needs bruce in his life, and officially giving bruce the watch is jason telling him that he still wants him in his life
Tumblr media
this sweet little boy just wanted a family and he believed he had to hold a weight entirely too big to hold on his tiny shoulders just to have it, and all i wanna do is give a him a hug

I’ve got thoughts about Dark Crisis, like as a concept. Disregarding the fact that it’s premise is stupid (oh no the justice league died, they’ve never done that before, whatever shall we do), it also feels so disrespectful.
Like they show Jon trying to put together a new league, with everyone being gigantic douchebags. Which, A. Why would that responsibility fall to him, he’s a child? B. Why do they even need a new league, doesn’t the league have reserve members, or am I being stupid? Why wouldn’t the still alive members + the reserve members be the new league? And importantly, C. Why are we acting like the loss of the league is this giant impossible loss?
Sure, emotionally it’d be massive for the characters who lost their mentors, their friends, their heroes, and their family. And I can see why the world would slightly fall into chaos thanks to villains thinking there’s no one there to stop them. But then the world would just… go on? Idk why the writers are acting like the rest of the superhero community aren’t just as capable (at least all together) as the leaguers who died.
What would the world do without Superman? Idk, and good thing we don’t have to find out since we already have one (who has been earths sole superman for almost a year now mind you). But if that’s not enough we also have superboy, supergirl, steel, and a whole host of non super characters with similar power sets.
What would the world do without Wonder Woman? Aquaman? Green Arrow? Don’t know, don’t have to find out. We already have one Wonder Woman, three wonder girls, and an entire island of potential wonder women. We also have Jackson, Garth, Mera, Dolphine and an entire ocean of atlanteans. Not only do we have another green arrow, red arrow, Arsenal, and we’re about to get speedy back if I’m not mistaken, but I’m sure other people can also learn archery if necessary.
The Flash? There’s at least 3 other flashes, one kid flash, and one impulse ready to go.
Batman? Has an entire army of orphan children at his disposal, and an entire team of Batmen running about the place.
Green Lantern? ...
Really the only people who don’t have a lot of people with the exact same powers as them are Zatanna, Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl. And even then they still have some people with those exact powers.
Idk it just feels so disrespectful to the 99% of superheroes still alive, especially those like Nightwing and Arsenal who have existed as characters for longer than most of the leaguers who died, to act like they wouldn’t be able to pick up the slack. Like the world needed those leaguers so badly that everyone will be divided, no one will know what to do or how to move forward, and the everything will fall apart without them.
I’m not saying I hate the concept. I’m all for a story honouring the legacies of the league, and focusing on the interpersonal relationships of the community (not sure why the league had to die for that but whatever). My problem is with the way the promotion of the story and the story itself is being framed like a “how could the world possibly manage” story. When realistically, the world would mourn and be a little extra chaotic for a few days, maybe weeks, then it’d be fine again.

Okay, hear me out, stephanie brown as battinson side kick in the batman 2.
and before you say Im crazy, please listen:
At the start of the batman 2, Bruce fights the latest in a series of riddler copycat that appeared following the events of the first movie. This one calling themselves “cluemaster”. Batman tracks him to his home after receiving an anonymous tip and fights him. He knocks him out and handcuffs him for the cops, but before he can leave he discovers Stephanie in the home. Stephanie thanks Batman and tells him she knew he’d stop her father. Batman quickly realises that it was Stephanie who gave him the tip. Steph explains that her father became mentally unwell after her mothers death and became inspired by riddler. Fearing him she tipped batman off to his location. Batman thanks her and goes to leave but Steph asks him to stay, fearing her father waking up. He reluctantly agrees and they talk until Gordon arrives. Bruce later decides to take her in temporarily until the new orphanage he’s funding is completed. Steph is incredibly intelligent, has met batman and is in close proximity with Bruce. All this eventually leads her to discover that he is batman and she insists on helping him. Of course he says no but that’s not gonna stop her…
After this little ramble about how the story could go, here are my reasons on why I think stephanie would be amazing in battinson universe:
Hope - Steph is a character who deeply values hope—holding on to hope for herself, and also bringing hope to others. More than for any other Robin, Stephanie grew up idolizing Batman as a symbol of hope and resistance, not fear and vengeance.
Connection to the lower class and crime-vulnerable population of Gotham- Rather than allowing a child into the crimefighting world, Batman meets a kid who already lives there. Rather than just swooping in from above to save the masses down below, Batman empowers someone to save her own people.
Giving Steph the spotlight - Lately, DC has been cashing in on Stephanie representing a Girl Wonder (Robin 80th Anniversary Spectacular, Robins, Wayne Family Adventures, etc) among a herd of weirdly identical teen boys. While it's nice to see Steph getting recognized, her actual 10-week stint as Robin was basically a mean-spirited stunt instead of a proper run. It'd be nice for Steph to legitimately get a major spotlight as Robin.
Balance - Frankly, a girl could be a good next addition to Team Batman. A girl Robin could balance out Batman, Alfred, and Gordon being an all-male team.
If you got to this point, Thanks for reading!!

Hi, do you know any comic panels where Dick talks about what Bruce did for him? Like when he took him in as a kid/how he saved him, that kind of thing. I feel like I've read that somewhere but I can't recall, and I thought you might know.
Hi, I've posted all or most of these on earlier posts so you might have seen them there. (Not that superhero are known for long an eloquent speeches, but at least the subject comes up 😎) Anyway, this is what I can think of at the moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman: Shadow of the Bat # 34
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A little nudge, in Robin 80th Anniversary Special
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 1 # 4
Tumblr media
Nightwing vol 2 # 106 (from the dreaded Nightwing Year One arc that I detest)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Action Comics Weekly # 613, where Dick (still pretty new as Nightwing) talks to Roy about his relationship with Batman.
Tumblr media
Batman: Gotham Knights # 45 (where the writer had Dick deny that Bruce was a father to him growing up, contrary to several other comics).
Tumblr media
Batman & Robin Eternal # 26. (This shouldn't be in continuity any longer since this book's Tim was the guy whose parents had to go in hiding because of what he did. But then, you can raise doubts about whether any of my examples are in continuity for the state of DC Comics, at the moment, since they are all either before Flashpoint and Rebirth or a standalone story (A little nudge). )
I've posted panels about Dick and Bruce's relationships in (among many others) these posts:

I get people who say Steph is their favourite character who has been Robin.
I get people who say they like the idea of a female Robin or the concept of Steph as Robin.
I even get the people who like the secret Steph-as-Robin run that exists in their head though I think if they're going to engage with discussions of characters-as-Robin they need to take a breather and look at what's appeared in various canons.
What I don't get is people who look at the actual comic book issues that feature Steph-as-Robin (Robin #126-128, Batgirl #53, Robin 80th Anniversary and MAYBE include her World Without Young Justice appearances) and declare Robin!Steph their favourite Robin.
No, seriously. Are you basing your entire declaration of Steph being your favourite Robin on one team up issue with Babs and Cass?
It just boggles me.
