listen, i have no idea what’s currently canon in dc comics and i really don’t care to BUT regardless of what continuity we’re in, i think jason todd might be the funniest character of all time. just the biggest hypocrite ever and i’m obsessed. like, so many people have pointed out how crazy it is to be pissed off at tim for replacing him as robin when he literally replaced dick while dick was still alive, but then to go and parade around bludhaven as a murderous nightwing while dick is (again) very much still alive and THEN form a team with dick’s ex girlfriend and best friend??? jason todd is THE definition of “replacement” or what the fuck ever he calls tim and i actually find it so funny. stay crazy girl <3

Robin Tim putting Bruce to sleep with his trusty chloroform and tranquilizer. Except he’ll do it in the streets too. So if Batman goes too far, a random low tier goon gets to see Robin knock Batman out and then slowly drag his body into the batmobile before moving a car seat into the driver’s seat and driving off into the sunrise.
Robin follows all the laws of the road and honestly the goon isn’t sure if they’re more shocked about seeing Batman get taken down by someone that came up to his waist or seeing the Batmobile follow every single traffic law.
like I said before, during Tim’s early days it was Robin and Batman instead of Batman and Robin why? Cuz people saw Tim doing this kinda of thing constantly.
also ofc Tim can drive perfectly I expect nothing less from him

Okay, hear me out, stephanie brown as battinson side kick in the batman 2.
and before you say Im crazy, please listen:
At the start of the batman 2, Bruce fights the latest in a series of riddler copycat that appeared following the events of the first movie. This one calling themselves “cluemaster”. Batman tracks him to his home after receiving an anonymous tip and fights him. He knocks him out and handcuffs him for the cops, but before he can leave he discovers Stephanie in the home. Stephanie thanks Batman and tells him she knew he’d stop her father. Batman quickly realises that it was Stephanie who gave him the tip. Steph explains that her father became mentally unwell after her mothers death and became inspired by riddler. Fearing him she tipped batman off to his location. Batman thanks her and goes to leave but Steph asks him to stay, fearing her father waking up. He reluctantly agrees and they talk until Gordon arrives. Bruce later decides to take her in temporarily until the new orphanage he’s funding is completed. Steph is incredibly intelligent, has met batman and is in close proximity with Bruce. All this eventually leads her to discover that he is batman and she insists on helping him. Of course he says no but that’s not gonna stop her…
After this little ramble about how the story could go, here are my reasons on why I think stephanie would be amazing in battinson universe:
Hope - Steph is a character who deeply values hope—holding on to hope for herself, and also bringing hope to others. More than for any other Robin, Stephanie grew up idolizing Batman as a symbol of hope and resistance, not fear and vengeance.
Connection to the lower class and crime-vulnerable population of Gotham- Rather than allowing a child into the crimefighting world, Batman meets a kid who already lives there. Rather than just swooping in from above to save the masses down below, Batman empowers someone to save her own people.
Giving Steph the spotlight - Lately, DC has been cashing in on Stephanie representing a Girl Wonder (Robin 80th Anniversary Spectacular, Robins, Wayne Family Adventures, etc) among a herd of weirdly identical teen boys. While it's nice to see Steph getting recognized, her actual 10-week stint as Robin was basically a mean-spirited stunt instead of a proper run. It'd be nice for Steph to legitimately get a major spotlight as Robin.
Balance - Frankly, a girl could be a good next addition to Team Batman. A girl Robin could balance out Batman, Alfred, and Gordon being an all-male team.
If you got to this point, Thanks for reading!!

A performer must never fear fear, he must learn to befriend it. Fear is your friend, and you must dance with it on deaths tightrope.
Dick is five when he first sees it. When his father deems him old enough to let go off the harness he was taught to hold on too. He’s twenty feet above the soft ground he so loved, and the wind tucks his strands behind his ear.
And he feels it. The hammering heartbeat, the shivers running down his spine and shaking legs that threaten to collapse : the signs that fear is knocking on his door before letting itself in.
But it’s not a monster. No, it was a boy, no older than him. Fear was the shadow of a child that tilted its head in recognition. That young Dick Grayson was now a new friend. And he feels his hands go cold when it grips his hand, but instead of pushing him back it beckons him forward.
And he dances with fear, laughs as spikes of anxiety erupt when one foot threatens to slip off the edge. Fear was beckoning him forward, gently pushing him from behind and tossing and turning, never allowing him to focus on anything else. And Dick loved it.
When he grew older, so did fear. And when Dick was eight, with only the shadows of his parents remaining, fear was gone.
Fear only came if you gave it something to play with, Dick had learned. Fear loved playing with friends, and only came if you had something to offer. Something to lose. But there, as the life bled out of his parents, so did fear from him. He had nothing to offer it, he no longer had a heart to give, no more happiness it could take. So that left behind anger.
But then he met the darkness. While anger screamed at him for murder, for retribution the darkness asked for mercy, for redemption. The batman took off the cape, told him it was okay to just be human. He could be safe. He could be loved. And it lent him a hand. Would he take it?
That’s when he finally felt fear slowly returning home, knocking at his heart before poking its head in. It has grown up too, but one look at each other and suddenly Dick was a child again, staring at it for the first time. Yet instead of being afraid to die, he found himself being afraid to live.
Fear told him he was already afraid. So why not already do it?

absolutely loved "robin and batman"!!! my only nitpick is bruce's characterization like a teeeny bit
specifically this quote being very out of character and just. bad
Tumblr media
aaand him viewing dick as a soldier, rather than a kid
i have mentioned how im ok with bruce being a flawed father figure for grayson during their first years but i dont think these two details characterize bruce in a way that fits his overall character best?...hear me out, batman 2004 definitely has a better origin story for bruce picking up dick and in the batman animated series bruce basically expresses that he will try his best to give dick what he himself was robbed of–peace
bruce taking away grayson's childhood feels...unlike him in a way and contradictory to his motive of helping the kid deal with the same trauma. but maybe i haven't analyzed thoroughly enough..perhaps this bruce viewed dick becoming a hero/his sidekick as him becoming a soldier and thought that thats why he needed to treat him accordingly but didnt want to do that so maaybe THATS why he wanted dick to give up the costume in the start of the comic? in this case, it would mean that this bruce didnt want to try and take away dick's childhood but felt like he had to ? i dunno
i would like to end this by saying that these are just nitpicks and that everything else here, especially grayson's character, is done SPECTACULARLY<3 the writer really cooked with this one🗣️ dick's whole character and everything abt him is ON POINT !

Just read Robin & Batman by Jeff Lemire with art by Dustin Nguyen so heres an extremely long review (unasked for) because I have so many thoughts (spoiler warning)
I really loved the relationship and personal growth for both Dick and Bruce that they showed across just 3 issues.
Tumblr media
I know we've all become accustomed to slice of life batdad but starting out emo boy Bruce Wayne was just looking for a soldier and I think this story is where he really starts to learn how to be a father. He makes some clear missteps like invading Dick's privacy by reading his journal but he was just trying to do something nice for Dick. It's interesting to still see both of them as humans who are making mistakes and it's nice to see how that changes across the issues.
Tumblr media
But you can see sooooooo clearly that he is trying to be a dad, even if it's in his weird loner edgelord ways. He makes sure to give Dick the best birthday possible by introducing him to his peers at the Justice League, as well as their sidekicks who would be soon to become the first iteration of the Teen Titans in #2 which was probably my favorite issue of the limited series. Overall it's a very sweet issue until the twist towards the end where it's revealed that it was actually secretly a recon mission
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just the dichotomy of Bruce Wayne trying to be a normal person and also The Batman and that reflecting on Dick is really interesting. Especially while simultaneously Alfred is there to provide more of that fatherly presence, despite Dick ultimately wanting it to come from Bruce.
Tumblr media
And, of course, in the end after their big fight with Killer Croc they have their big moment where Dick really comes into his own and fully becomes Robin. UGH SO GOOD. It's where we see the clearest moment of Bruce's growth, and Dick realizing he doesn't need to be like Bruce he needs to be by himself. Sidenote, I did think Waylon's character in this was really interesting. I'm not sure if he's normally part of Haly's Circus but him having a personal grudge against Dick for making him feel isolated just makes him more menacing. ALSO THE PARALLELS. Part of me fully expected the end result to actually be Dick solving the problem without his fists but oh well. Overall great series with lots of amazing moments!!

sometimes i think of this line where dick said that he chose robin as his hero name not only because it was the nickname his mother had for him but also because he wanted a name he wouldn't grow out of in a few years and it's sad to me since now robin is eternally a child's role
being robin is the last thing you can hold onto when your innocence has been shattered, it's the last bit of childish glee you can keep and you don't even do it for yourself you do it to bring light into other people's lifes :/ it's a role that only a child can fit in but you need the maturity of an adult to handle it. it's complicated

Photo evidence part 5
Tim had a system.
Get up, check the photo evidence account for crimes to send to the GCPD, go to school, Ignore everything, go home, then go out to follow the Bats (while getting more evidence at the same time). it was efficient, it worked well and he even found time to eat and relax.
Sadly he had to stop this system for a bit to spend on getting stuff for his debut, and finally after a week+ he’d had just gotten enough blackmail and evidence and Reputation to go after a big (Evil) CEO who was visiting Gotham for only one week.
this was his chance! He would’ve sent out the info when the CEO left the city and country and then the people would know that Gotham, and the people who live in it, were his! To let people know that whoever crosses Gotham crosses Photo evidence. And that Photo evidence can end your career no matter where you are, can let the police know every. Single. Secret. You have, in SECONDS.
See Tim had sent a few public anonymous threats message to this CEO’s security team. Then paid a few street kids to spreed the info that it was Photo evidence that did it. he’d even personally gone out and got some huge dirt on the guy, Seriously just one time shut the blinds when you do something illegal!
Then his Cameras (people who send photos to his account) had gotten the memo that this guy was the target. He’s got more blackmail than he thought he would. But hey, why wouldn’t he? Gotham knows that the people he goes after are bad, and the fact that they can get the evidence themselves proves it. (And proves how willing Gothamites are to get on rooftops like he knew it was easy, he does it all the time, but shouldn’t Batman or Robin spot one of them at lest once?)
Tim was gonna let ALL the info out in three day. Ruining this CEO’s life, make him an example for what’s to come. He’s just hoping that Batman and Robin don’t find out and stop him…
(It doesn’t mean anything that lately he’s been hearing rumors that Batman has gotten a little aggressive, and had been patrolling alone…..
But that’s not unnatural! Maybe Robin had just got hurt… it doesn’t matter that he’d hadn’t.. actually… seen the new Robin, Jason, in a while… He had been busy on this project for over a month now and hasn’t got a chance to stalk them, But surely Jason’s alright? There’s no need to worry-)
“-Right?”

HELP baby Dick Grayson is making his costume, thinking it’d probably be smarter to make it darker, more stealthy, but he’s mad at Bruce right now, so instead he DESIGNS HIS COSTUME TO BE BRIGHT AND COLORFUL, THIS’LL REALLY ANNOY THE SHIT OUT OF BRUCE. THAT IS THE MOST IN CHARACTER DICK GRAYSON THING I HAVE EVER WITNESSED IN MY LIFE, I’M IN TEARS.

I love how the first thing Dick does when he meets Damian is complain to Alfred about all the ‘protection’ talks Bruce gave him just for him to not comply them lmao
