BALITANG KONSYUMER: Unveiling the Hidden Dangers of Skin-Whitening Products when Mercury is found and sold in the PH sparks brazenness alarm
Tumblr media
MALOLOS, BULACAN -- In a world where fair skin is often seen as beautiful, skin-whitening products (SWP) can be very alluring. However, there is a hidden reality lurking beneath the promise of a more radiant complexion that potential buyers of these beauty commodities in the Philippines must consider. These supposedly harmless creams and lotions contain mercury, which has recently been brought to light through revelations regarding illegal trade.
Mercury, being a toxic heavy metal; is found in most SLPs because it inhibits melanin production. Mercury still pervades some brands sold on the market despite the regulatory bodies' ban like Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for instance here in the Philippines. The ramifications of employing such mercury-filled products are dire; they range from similar illnesses like contact dermatitis to more severe ones including immuno-compromised systems and neurologic defects.
A groundbreaking documentary dubbed 'The Dark Side of Skin-Lightening' was launched Monday morning (April 22nd, 2024 -- Bulacan local time) at La Consolacion University-Philippines (LCUP) in Malolos, Bulacan with an intention to create awareness about this pressing issue. The documentary, which was presented both in-person to 1,200 senior high school students and streamed LIVE on Facebook during the school's Earth Day Celebration, highlighted the global proliferation of mercury-added SLPs and the urgent need for stricter regulations to protect Filipino consumers.
During the forum, BAN Toxics conducts a LIVE testing session on the table using an XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) analyzer, with the help of Traders Industrial Supply Company Inc. (TRISCO) ensuring no mercury is presented in some beauty products. All these imported or locally-made products are not completely sponsored for scientific hazard-related reasons.
In light of these shocking revelations from 'BAN Toxics', it is crucial for individuals to take proactive steps to safeguard their health and well-being. Before purchasing any of beauty or cosmetic products, especially skin-whitening creams to try it out… Consumers are advised to thoroughly check all the list of ingredients for any mention of mercury or other harmful chemicals when you always read the label.
The other thing is that, one should consider consulting with dermatologists or any trusted health professionals to guarantee safety and effectiveness of the products in question.
As long as the demand for skin lightening creams remains high, there will always be a need for consumers to be on guard. By being wise enough, well informed consumers can hugely assist in fighting against mercury laden beauty products’ illegal trade and create a culture of safe and responsible skincare practice.
Our natural skin color should be embraced and celebrated without falling for the dangerous traps hidden behind creams used to bleach the human skin.

“queer spaces should be inclusive of people who don’t enjoy sex and who have “strange”, negative or repulsed relationships with sex” and “sex is an important aspect of lgbt community, history, and activism and queer people should be allowed and able to talk freely about sex without stigma or shame” are ideas that can and should coexist.
#‘queer people were banned from and shamed for having sex and that’s where a lot of our activism stemmed from’ and#‘not liking or having sex is considered abnormal and a mental illness and also needs to be destigmatized’ are concepts that not only can but#often do coalign#it’s esp important to consider that a lot of lgbt ppl who have a tricky and strained relationship with sex are like that because of trauma#which is very common for queer folks#it’s really not an ace-only thing#like i am sex repulsed but it’s very hard to discern if it’s because i’m asexual or if it’s the trauma. either way i deserve to have those#feelings and be included in lgbt spaces and discussions about sex and treated as just another queer person with a different experience#instead of being alienated because my feelings about sex don’t directly line up with yours#im so sick of people in this community trying to pit us against each other. as an ace lesbian that shit is so toxic and harmful#my relationship with sex is fluid. im sex-positive always‚ but i often find myself sex repulsed. im otherwise neutral about it but im sick#of people acting like it’s either you enjoy sex and have it frequently or you hate it and you shame everyone who has it like youre a puritan#and it’s often aphobes who bought into that ‘aces are puritanical celibate straights who want ppl who have gay sex to die or think they’re#‘dirty’ or some shit. and it was literally 90% crypto-aphobes pretending to be aces to get people to adopt that into their belief system#the same way crypto-t/rfs pretend to be trans women who want to prey on the ‘innocent women’#and y’all will use those posts/screenshots as ‘evidence’ that whatever scapegoat you’ve selected is actually inherently bad/homophobic/#misogynistic/etc and not even#acknowledge the giant hole in your logic cuz you’re too busy trying to find a scapegoat#it’s the same tactics and y’all fall for it every time#text post#like. lesbians are CONSTANTLY getting hounded and told that we’re broken or mentally i’ll for not showing interest in (having sex with) men#for the same reason asexuality is considered bad or wrong or weird#not showing interest in heterosexual relationships or sex is why this is so important#anyone that falls outside the scope of heterosexuality is part of this community whether you like it or not

Anyone else been noticing how absolutely unapologetically men have been supporting Andrew Tate?
Yesterday I was watching a video called "New Yorkers reacting to Andrew Tate" on Youtube and every single fucking top comment was like "ok but why are these girls calling Andrew bald? No wonder he hates women" or "I don't agree with Andrew Tate BUT these girls are so rude and they're making fun of Andrew Tate, I think I understand why he hates women" like WHAT THE FUCK YOU STUPID FUCKING MOIDS???
How is it that a dirty male can be like "yes women should be raped, subjugated, treated like property and be sex trafficked" but no woman can even call him a bald asshole?
They hate us so much that they expect us to be nice to them even when they call for brutal and inhumane violent treatment against us. Why are m*n so repulsive and pathetic holy fuck

There's a HIGHLY concerning amount of videos by people who have detransitioned, and are speaking against gender-affirming care being, in their words, too accessible. They are frustrated about how nobody stopped them and that everyone was way too supportive and unquestioning, and they have caused 'irreversible damage' to themselves (oh yes, they love that Abigail Shrier book).
They often have this tone about how being trans was just a stupid, cringe phase in their lives. They frame it like they were misguided, too influenced by gender positivity, even though from how they were speaking about it, clearly that gender transition was what they needed at that time, and it made them happy, and it's ok if their identity shifted to something else now.
It's mind-boggling how a person that embraced being trans, even for a brief period of their life, can suddenly go and create so much damage to other trans people. Even if they tried and figured out this is not the right thing for them, there are so many people out there who need to try that path too. Bigots are using these detransitioners as a prime example of why gender-affirming care should be strictly gatekept.
And re: regret and so-called irreversible damage. I am saddened that these people's gender exploration ended in them adopting a close-minded, cis-centric worldview. Because even if their body did undergo changes, one should know that a woman with a deep voice and facial hair is still a woman. And a man with breasts is still a man.

You prob won’t see this but hi! I follow you and your beautiful wife bc of your love for black women and life tips! I wanna share a story that happened yesterday where I was harassed in a gas station by an aggressive black male security guard and get nonblack poc feedback bc I no longer feel safe around black men and just curious to what advice or thoughts you have.
Last night I walked inside a pilot gas station to use the restroom where I wore a yellow camo track suit with the hood up bc I was cold. The security told me to take my hood down even tho there was no policy where I could see and followed me to the restroom door and called me out my name (I heard him thru the door), after I finished in the restroom I went to confront him at the register he was hiding behind where we got into a heated verbal exchange , I cussed him out amd I hurt his ego evidently bc he felt the need to follow me outside to escalate it but I outtalked him and got in my car. I never took my hood down. I went back in the gas station with a girlfriend for water after informing her of what happened where he then tried to make me remove my hood again and tried to encourage the women at the registers to refuse me service bc I wouldn’t remove my hood, we got into it again. He was aggressive, approached me slamming his hand on the counter, got loud, and sensitive bc I got the best of him twice verbally and in the end I still got the water and never took my hood down; the nice white lady at the register took my money from my friend who paid for it, the black woman at the register was a m@mmy. He nitpicked my outfit and physical appearance but ppl passing thru wore hoods and had pants hanging off their asses, tummy shirts, brought dogs in the store, but was never harassed like I was. I don’t have a problem following a policy but I won’t follow a policy when it’s enforced on me but no one else. So I called the police and they told me to file a complaint with corporate and see what I can do about it so I will be calling them in the morning. Did I mention the security tried to get me banned for trespassing just bc i didn’t back down and verbally whooped him?? LOLL!!! I’ll be carrying a switchblade from now on and learning to shoot a gun real soon!
Read my tags. I'm assuming you're a bw? It doesn't take all the hoodrat buffoonery Glocktavious displayed to ask someone to remove their hood. Talk to a lawyer, they'll help you go about prosecuting Dustavious the right way. So unprofessional. I hope this isn't a late response, I don't really check Tumblr lately or read every ask but yours grabbed my attention. You did the right thing! Always stand up for yourself. You're a savage for checking his ass. Never be afraid of a man, & keep a weapon on you. 👏👏👏👏Insecure, pussy "men" pick fights with women, they think being aggressive & loud intimidates you & they never prepare for a strong retort that shuts their shit down. My completely honest & straightforward unfiltered pov: We need to address the fact that the bullying of bw is a problematic behavior that is perpetuated by bm primarily (not all, but atp it's so common it might as well be). You'd be better off opening up your dating options to men outside of your race, tbh. (Be very selective & careful when itrl dating). Non-bm build their communities & protect their women. [Redacted] That's why I don't understand why some ww leave wm, who have privilege & power, for bm, who 9/10 don't have anything to offer except dick, kids & struggle love. Even when bm manage to have success it doesn't change their crusty ass mentality. I recently learned that a bw is killed by a bm every six hours. [Redacted] Bm are the only race of men who publicly bash, degrade & bully their race of women while praising, fetishizing & worshipping non-bw. But you can't expect men who hate themselves to love or value you. I see the bs bw have to deal with daily & it saddens me. I feel like they target bw cause they think it'll make them men & acceptable in the eyes of wm, it's embarrassing. [Redacted] I can't imagine treating my baby like that. [Redacted] I'll never post or reblog a "this is a safe space for everyone" post. It's not. I don't post for them. I don't want racists/colorists in my space where bw & woc tell me that they feel safe, seen & protected. I gatekeep my blog so that you're safe expressing your feelings here. I thought it was obvious since I never acknowledge bm but it needs to be said. I 100% agree with the bw advising bw to choose higher quality men. You should watch Cynthia G & Paris Milan on YouTube & other black women who cover domestic & racial topics, it's very educational & insightful, they offer a lot of perspective & I agree with so many points they make. [Redacted] The best advice I can give you is to run & never look back. Good luck. ❤️
#you can sue him personally for discrimination & verbal harassment & file a complaint with corporate#If you're banned from the store then you can have the cops get his information & press charges#once corporate finds out about the incident he'll more than likely lose his job#Make sure to stress that he intentionally embarrassed you by making a scene followed you to the bathroom & outside of the store in attempt#to escalate the situation he was highly aggressive & approached you & that you felt scared for your safety which caused emotional distress#those are super important details & ultimately where he fucked up#& if you're able to write down the date/time this occurred & have the camera footage obtained by police & your friends as witnesses#it'll help your case#The moment someone loses their cool & lowers themself even lower than they already are you already won#As you go through life the more jackasses you'll encounter & you'll become so immune that shit won't even anger you the way it used to#Speaking from experience#I don't see him living long cause losers who fuck with people & think being loud & ghetto gives them an upper hand never live a long life#toxic masculinity is a fear of strong women masked by a fraudulent superiority complex#he's corny asf if the only thing he could think to call you was ugly like what guy doesn't automatically run to that as an insult?#They even use it when they get rejected it's always that or 'bitch' cause they're sooo original#they're tiring#long post#ask

You heard the man, guys. No throwing hate to ANY content creator for stuff that's literally just a game they're playing. Any deaths or insults are just roleplay and the CC's aren't actually upset (and if they were they will talk it privately like mature adults) so no one play the knight in shining armour cuz no one called for one

CONSUMER NEWS: An Asian study reveals presence of EDCs in Filipino personal care products, urges stricter regulations for Consumer Safety [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
Tumblr media
QUEZON, MANILA -- A South Korean-based Wonjin Institute for Occupational & Environmental Health (WIOEH) recently conducted a groundbreaking Asian study, in a physical and virtual press briefing last Monday morning (March 18, 2024 -- Manila local time), in honor of the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD). The study revealed concerning results regarding the presence of Endocrine-disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) in personal care products from the Philippines.
Tumblr media
Independent researchers conducted by the Korean Financial Industry Foundation (KFIF), in cooperation with BAN Toxics, ordering to measure the adherence to international and local standards on propylparabens (PPs) and butylparabens (BPs) in personal care products. Such chemicals were suspiciously identified through their analysis with high performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS), alongside between triclosan and triclocarban.
World Consumer Rights Day marks every the 15th of March (since the beginning in 1983) is a global drive that fights for consumer rights. The day also creates awareness about consumer issues and encourages the use of fair trade practices while enabling individuals make informed choices. This occasion has its roots from an historic address made by late-American president named Mr. John Fitzgerald Kennedy in 1962 where he outlined basic consumer rights stressing on consumer protection.
Parabens, known commonly referred to cosmetic products as preservatives have gained attention for their ability to disrupt the endocrine system. This disruption can potentially affect hormone activity and pose risks to fertility, reproductive organs, and even increase the chances of developing cancer. Triclosan is previously found in the said consumer products like antiseptic washes, has been associated with endocrine dysfunction, irregular development of embryos, and suppression of our immune system. Another antimicrobial agent called Triclocarban has also raised concerns due to its potential to disrupt the endocrine system.
During a recent study in the exclusive press briefing to OneNETnews, it was discovered that kiddie toothpaste, baby body wash and infant tooth gel had propylparabens and butylparabens as well. These substances, present in varying amounts, are harmful to children and babies due to their still developing bodies and the delicate nature of their skins. Additionally, some products contained trace amounts of isobutylparaben which is prohibited calling for more stringent rules and compliance with safety standards.
Consumer anxiety develops because of the presence of the big three (3) of them in personal care products. Hormone activity disruptions, reproductive issues or even cancer have been linked to these chemicals.
Tumblr media
To ensure the safety of personal care products, Filipino consumers are urged to read the ingredients lists carefully, choose brands labeled ‘paraben-free’ and ‘triclosan-free’, and shun those having known EDCs. By being vigilant customers who know better than others; they can protect themselves along with their loved ones from the dangers associated with such materials.
The end result is that the independent research emphasizes the necessity to have more stern regulations in cosmetics industry, and shifts to safety alternatives for toxic chemicals.
As one of their consumers for Filipinos, it is vital to emphasize on our health by buying things in personal care products (regardless of the children and adults) which do not contain harmful substances. This will enhance transparency, compliance and protect consumer rights hence making the market safer and healthier for all of them.

I made the mistake of scrolling the dash last night, hoping to re-engage my Loki fandom feels, only to be reminded of why I've more or less quit this fandom - which, for the record, is bc I don't know if it's purity culture or "woke" culture or just "for the love of god, I'm begging you to touch grass" culture, but I'd like to engage with my blorbo without running into posts spouting takes like "saying Loki has small, slender hands is a feminization kink (and therefore bad)." Like?? I think there's something inherently anti-genderfluidity(?) to assume that men can't have small, slender hands or that having small, slender hands is automatically a feminine trait, and also Loki does have small, slender hands, and also even if it is being written as some kind of a kink, so what? Why are we kink-shaming?
I mean, I don't know, it just seems like there are more and more and more things that are being shamed, or criticized, based on an arbitrary sense of morality that undermines fiction as a creative, explorative form of art and it's just beyond exhausting - and fucking obnoxious - at this point.
