When Camila asked the kids about their favorite foods, she was just hoping to ask Luz for help to try and find any human substitute/equivalent to try and replicate it for them.

He was expecting to hear some bizarre names. (Seriously, fairy pie? What would one even use to substitute fairies? Shrimp, maybe?)

What she wasn't expecting was Hunter looking serious and focused enough as a man on the battlefield.

He was muttering to himself while tapping his finger to his lips, seemingly giving the question far more importance than Camila thought necessary.

He kept at it for a few seconds until finally, with a resolute nod to himself, he replied.

"Rootknot fruit."

Camila wasn't surprised when she didn't recognize the name. But she was a bit surprised to find that Amity, Gus, Luz, and Vee looked as lost as she did.

She was even more surprised at Willow's borderline offended look.

"Rootknot fruit? Really?"

Hunter perked up in the way he did every time he got to speak about a particular interest of his.

"Yeah! It grows all over the isles, and it's relatively easy to forage. The fruit is really dense, so a single bite can be enough to push away hunger for a whole day. Also, in case of emergency, if you chew the skin into a paste and use it as a salve between bandages, it makes any wound close faster to stop bleeding. It's a great food source to find in any mission."

Everyone blinked.

"Ah, that sounds great, mijo. And do you like the taste?"

"Oh no, it tastes awful. Like chewing on rotten wood. It's terrible."

Hunter was still smiling as he told her that his favorite food tasted terrible.

"Oh. Well, do you have any food from the demon realm you really like the taste of?"

Hunter now looked pensive. Apparently, taste never occurred to him as a factor when choosing a favorite food.

"Um. Gus once gave me a really good sandwich?"

“Festive Foods” for @toh-holiday-kingo !!

Here’s two of our favorite moms supervising the preparation of holiday foods!!

Eda and King are making moon and star cookies to celebrate the Winter Solstice! (It’s a Clawthorne family recipe; I wish I could replicate it, but fairy eyes are in short supply where I live.)

The Nocedas are making Pasteles de Masa, a common Christmas food in Puerto Rico, a tradition passed down by Manny 😍. (This is something you can easily find a recipe for online if you want to give it a try! Set aside a good chunk of time.) (They are basically rectangles of root/plantain paste with savory fillings that are wrapped in plantain leaves and tied into little parcels to be boiled and eaten en masse. Kind of like tamales but nothing like tamales 😂.) (Look, as soon as I saw that Puerto Rican flag in Thanks to Them, I claimed Manny and now the Nocedas are doing all the Puerto Rican traditions.)

truthfully not a lot because luz is not magic and cannot understand eberwolf's language, though she would also be in awe of his magical prowess and would love to meet his ratworms.

So I have a little observation/headcanon based on Thanks To Them.

So Hunter called Camila's sewing machine a sewing 'contraption' which suggests that he's probably never seen one before. This might be because he grew up extremely sheltered but it could also mean that sewing machines just don't exist on the Boiling Isles. Therefore all clothing on the BI is hand sewn and therefore a lot more valuable/expensive than it is on Earth (as clothing was historically back when everything had to be made by hand). This could serve as an in universe explanation as to why we always see most of the characters only wear the same 1-3 outfits in every episode. (Ik that's just a common Cartoon Thing™ but shhhhh)

Then again, machinery clearly does exist on the BI so idk why they wouldn't also have sewing machines. But whatever this is just a little headcanon and I thought I'd share it here

Camilip Week 2023 - Day 4 (Nerds) Cosmic Frontier: The Lost Episode

CAMILIP WEEK DAY 4!

Get ready for some cuisine that's outer this world (get it lol)! 💖 👩‍🚀 🚀 🛸 👾 🛰️ ✨

After parking her car in the driveway, an exhausted Camila exited her vehicle and walked tiredly to the front door, holding her keys in her hands.

The vet clinic Camila worked at was busy today, which led her to do a lot of multitasking with different animal patients.

Due to barely eating the lunch that she had bought on her short break, the veterinarian felt both hungry and tired.

She couldn't wait to head inside and heat up the leftovers from last night's dinner before taking a much-needed nap.

Once she unlocked the door, Camila stepped inside her home and what she saw in the dining room blew her mind, as she let out a small gasp.

The dinner table was set up to look like Captain Avery and Chief O'Bailey's spaceship, as every entrée on the table was a reference to Cosmic Frontier.

Camila couldn't believe it.

This was a nerdy dream come true for her.

Coming out of the kitchen, her bearded beloved was wearing a space-themed apron rather than his usual horse one, and he instantly smiled at Camila.

"Ah, there you are, my love. Welcome home,"

Philip gave her a gentle greeting as he gestured for Camila to have a seat.

She did, still shocked as Philip pushed her chair in.

He then pulled out an alien headband and positioned it in Camila's hair.

Perfect!

As he spoke, his smile persisted.

"I hope you're hungry, because I've prepared this outer space feast just for you."

He gestured towards every dish on the table as he listed them off.

"We have cosmic chicken casserole, rover roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes from Mars, galactic garlic bread, and..."

Heading back into the kitchen, Philip happily returns with lime green gelatin sitting on a stand in the shape of an alien's head, with chunks of pineapple and cucumbers inside.

"Dessert!"

When Philip sets the stand down on the table, Camila lets out a loud gasp as she stares intently at the gelatin with sparkly eyes.

"The evil emperor Kuvvul's head!" Camila was taken aback by how meticulous it looked.

Philip got every little detail right.

"I hope it's okay," Philip chuckled as he sat across from Camila.

"It's perfect!" Camila quickly told him with glittery eyes.

Her fangirl reaction caused Philip to laugh once more.

He then picked up the serving spoon from the casserole and scooped up a spoonful to place on Camila's plate before scooping up some for himself.

"Oh, Philip," Camila softly began, a bit of dark blush creeping on her cheeks.

"This surprise dinner is outer this world," she says, giggling at her own space pun.

"Thank you for putting so much thought and love into it, mi amor."

Philip understood and valued the geeky love they shared for Cosmic Frontier.

The beardo gave his beloved a soft smile. "It's what you deserve, my love," Philip gently told her as he dipped his casserole spoon into the casserole.

"Cheers?" he asked, holding up his spoon.

With a warm smile, Camila dips her spoon into the dish and holds it up as well.

"Cheers," she replied to the friendly toast as she and Philip both clink their spoons before bringing them to their mouths to eat.

The two hum in unison at the casserole's gooey goodness.

Now that there’s easy access to a functioning portal again, I bet there’s a lot of trading food between realms. Even if they’re not living with her anymore, I bet Camila would still want to have demon food available for Luz’s friends when they visit. It’s like when people have the separate saucepan with no meat for vegetarians, except she’s making spaghetti sauce with no eyeballs for herself and Luz. Probably the Hexsquad have a few human foods they got attached to (I am envisioning this as a strict dichotomy where their faves are all either Camila’s home cooking or terrible radioactive junk food). Camila and Eda would be collaborating to make sure Luz has food she can enjoy while she’s at Eda’s as a teen. Maybe the exchange program at Eda’s university could have like, a vegetable garden and a chicken coop to help support human diets. I also think Amity, once she gets the hang of Luz’s dietary restrictions, would be super aggressive about accommodating them and trying to find restaurants for their Boiling Isles dates where Luz can eat something other than the complimentary bread.
