Christmas Cuties

1... 2... 3!

"Merry Christmas!" Mary and Tsuzura both exclaim with excitement at the same time while simultaneously pulling out their gifts from behind their backs.

The two were standing outside their school building on a snowy day as classes were over.

Both girls gasped at what the other had gotten them as a gift, their eyes glistening in delight.

Mary's fist held a plastic gift bag labeled "Tsuzura" with a variety of Christmas cookies that looked like traditional holiday shapes, while Tsuzura was holding a tringle container with a Christmas themed cake slice in it.

The two exchanged their desserts.

"Wow, Mary," Tsuzura began, blown away by the sugar cookies as she kept gazing at them. "These look amazing!"

Mary let out a flattered chuckle. "Thanks," she said. "I baked them myself."

Another gasp from Tsuzura. "You did?!" The bluenette asked, untying the red and green bow on the bag.

She didn't know her friend could bake.

Mary hummed as she nods. "That's right! I hope my baking tastes okay," she said with a small laugh.

Taking a candy cane-shaped cookie from the opened bag, Tsuzura lifts it to her lips and takes a bite.

She's immediately taken to cookie heaven as she hums.

"Mmm, Mary-chan, these cookies are the best! I love them so much!" Tsuzura beams, cookie crumbs now sprinkled on her lips, causing Mary to chuckle.

She's so cute, the blonde thought to herself.

"Aww, thank you, Tsuzura! I noticed your sweet tooth at lunch the other day," Mary voiced in a teasing tone, which made the former housepet flush a cherry red.

"I really wish I had baked you a cake, Mary-chan, but the one I gave you was store-bought," Tsuzura shyly admits, averting her gaze in embarrassment.

Her baking skills were not as good as Mary's.

Perhaps if they were, she could have made Mary a whole cake instead of buying her a simple slice.

Yellow eyes start to soften at the treat in her hand as Mary looks up at Tsuzura and brings her into a hug.

"No need to apologize, darling," she said with a smile, pressing a light kiss to Tsuzura's nose.

Her voice was so comforting as she continued to speak.

"Store-bought treats are good too. It's really the thought that counts on the holidays, Tsu-chan."

Tsuzura's face was redder than Rudolph's nose when she heard her new nickname.

"T-Thank you, Mary," she said, returning her girlfriend's smile.

2023 Media Thread - Part 130

Todo no Tsumari no Uchouten & Ame Demo Hare Demo

Huh? Two in one? Well, Ame Demo Hare Demo is a retelling of the same story in Todo no Tsumari no Uchouten. I read them basically one after the other, so they're kinda one larger piece in my head.

The retelling takes a more dramatic tone rather than the original's comedic. The yearning and emotional yuri, does come across much stronger due to this tonal shift. The story is all around more competently presented and easier to follow. It's not all positive though. New to the retelling are some added dramatic plot lines, they start out strong with some interesting hooks, but by their conclusion it ends up feeling really convoluted and unnecessarily dramatic.

The change in tone also is matched with a refinement of the illustration. Between these works and Sougou Tovarisch, Arata Iri's art has quickly become something I really enjoy. In the original work and Sougou Tovarisch, there's these really expressive and energetic drawings. It's not exactly the cleanest style, it can be sketchy and rough at times, but there's so much personality and charm to them. The retelling's shift from the comedic angle also has the affect of these extreme, expressive drawings becoming more minimal. It's definitely something I miss, but largely amounts to just personal taste.
