Dean:
when he sees you, his world stops spinning. He knows it’s you. your hair, your eyes, your lips. the same ones he remembered kissing so many times. it’s you, and dean knows it. but it can’t be. how could you be back.
he’s so zoned out that he dosent realize you’re now standing right in front of him.
“hey.” you smile
and god, that smile. the one he never got to see again - it was almost enough for him to break down right then and there. but he had to talk to you.
“h-hey.” he said, his voice barely audible.
“you okay?” you asked him, looking into his eyes and seeing the anxiety and distress.
he was quiet for a moment.
“uh… weird day.” he said shakily.
you frowned and moved closer, embracing him.
your scent. your body. your face tucked into his shoulder. he got to hold you again. he got to see you. it’s you. he can’t hold back the tears. soft sobs come from his mouth as he holds you against him.
“i’m sorry.” he whispered.
“hey it’s okay. don’t apologize. it’s okay to cry.” you whisper back, rubbing his arms.
but that’s not why he was apologizing. he was sorry he let you down. he was so so so sorry that it was you and not him that had to go.
he shook, his grip tightening on your clothes.
“i miss you.” he uttered.
“aw. you do?”
“so much.”
but then you’re called to set, to observe a scene. and he has to let you go for the second time. he has to say goodbye.
Sam:
sam dosent move a muscle when he sees you. he just looks. admires. he sees you laughing with one of the directors and he knows it’s you.
He walks the other way. even though he knows how badly he wants to talk to you, hear you, feel you again, it would just hurt him more. he watches you from a distance, smiling when you smile.
you’re full of life again. the same shine in your eyes, the same excitement in your voice… the same y/n. but he knows it’s not you. he knows he can never have you.
Before you leave set for the night, Sam calls you over.
“hey… can i talk to you?” he asks you, choking back tears.
“yeah of course! what’s up?” the same smile he always loved.
“i just… i miss you.” he whispers.
you give him a look.
“miss me?” you ask with a smile. “you see me every day.”
if only, he thought.
“yeah, i know. it uh… it just feels more than that.” he said, eyes studying your face.
he pulls you into a hug.
“i’ve just been having a hard time.” and it wasn’t a lie. losing you in his world was life altering. and now, seeing you but not.. you, just made all the pain come back.
“i’m sorry jared.” a sting of pain goes through him. he couldn’t even hear you say ‘Sammy’ for a last time.
“i’m here for you. always will be.” another sting of pain rushes through him, because you won’t be. as soon as he goes back, he’ll have to learn to live without you again.
you pull away, smiling.
“i’m gonna go home. i’m exhausted. text me if ya need me.” you smiled, letting go of him and walking out.
he just watches, silent tears falling again.
Castiel:
Castiel goes into shock. why would the angels bring you back? which angel did it? it wasn’t him.. he couldn’t have even if he had the chance.
he watches you from a distance. is this a dream? where was he? how are you back?
he watches you talk to another woman with curious eyes. he can feel the pang in his heart overflow and he knows he wants to talk to you. but if he does.. will this be all a dream? will he awake from this obvious hallucination?
he walks over to you, slowly and timidly.
you look at him and he finds himself looking at your lips. the same smile lines he remembered, the same soft freckles that were only visible if you looked close.
it was you.
he walked faster, engulfing your body in a hug. neither of you spoke as he felt your body in his arms again.
“you okay?” your voice breaks him out of his trance.
“yes..yes i’m fine.” he says, pulling away and studying your face again. his hand reached up and cupped your cheeks in both of his warm palms.
you put your hands over his.
he feels the familiar feeling of you again. god.. he couldn’t let you go.
“are you sure?” you ask him softly.
he nods.
“are… are you okay?” he asks you, choking down some tears.
“yeah. i’m okay.” you smile.
even though he knows it’s not you, it fills him with a sense of peace. you, in this universe at least, are okay.
“i…i am missing you. at home.” he whispers again.
and even though you have no clue what he’s talking about, you hug him again, rubbing his back as he lets the tears fall.
he has to start from square one all over again. leaving you. getting over it.

Crowley glanced at his watch and sighed. There was no point in putting it off, it was time for him to go.
He said quietly, "Angel..."
Aziraphale nodded and replied, "Say no more, it's time for you to go, isn't it?"
They stood up at the same time and walked side by side to the door of the bookshop.
The demon turned to the angel and, taking her face between his hands, said softly, "The longer I delay, the harder it will be. Don't be sad, it's only a few days, you won't even have time to miss me".
Aziraphale replied in a slightly wry tone, "I know, you're only leaving for three days and yet it feels like a trip around the world."
Crowley stroked the angel's cheek with his thumb and replied softly, "I know, Angel, believe me, I know. I feel like I'm going away for a long time too."
Aziraphale had done his best not to show the melancholy he had felt at the thought of the demon's absence. He had told himself that he should be happy that Crowley was so passionate about his work at the planetarium.
It was just for some days.
They'd been apart for much longer, with no certainty of seeing each other again, which was not the case now.
But despite all this good reasoning, now that Crowley was about to leave in a few seconds, the angel found it hard to put up a front.
He wanted to put his hand over his mouth to stop the words coming out, but Crowley still held his face in his hands and the Angel's mouth was running faster than his brain so he couldn't help but blurt out, "Will you miss me?"
The demon gave a small smile and replied in a low voice, "I miss you already, Angel.
Then he leaned forward and pressed his lips to the angel's in a tender kiss. 
When he tried to pull away a fraction of a second later, he could not because Aziraphale's hands had caught his face and were pressing against him to make the kiss last. The demon didn't struggle, of course, and the kiss lasted a few more seconds.
When they finally broke apart, Crowley ran his thumb over the Angel's lips and said sheepishly, "I really have to go now, Angel.
Aziraphale, his throat tightening, nodded and walked out with the demon to accompany him to the car. 
Once in front of the Bentley, Crowley planted a light kiss on the Angel's temple before getting behind the wheel. 
Aziraphale waved at him through the window and, seeing his sad little smile, the demon couldn't resist and rolled down the window.
Poking his head out, he said to the angel with a half-smile on his lips, "One last one for the road?”  
Smiling, Aziraphale leaned over and, after one last kiss on the demon's lips, said softly, "Have a good time, my love."
They looked at each other in silence for a few moments before the Bentley decided to take matters into its own hands and sped away.
Aziraphale, chuckling slightly, followed the car with his eyes until it disappeared around the corner.
"Hard to let him go, isn't it?"
The angel, who didn't really have the heart to deflect, replied softly to Nina, who had just arrived beside him, "You have no idea." 
Nina nudged him with her shoulder and replied, "Oh, I think I have a little idea, you know, when Maggie decides to go on one of her trips in search of rare records. I may know she'll be back, I may know it'll only be for a short time, this little place she's got here..." 
Nina tapped her chest before continuing, "remains empty, and the emptiness is felt until she's back. So, knowing your story, I can imagine... how it is for you."
Aziraphale nodded without answering, for Nina couldn't have described what he was feeling more accurately. 
But at the same time, today was different from all the times he'd watched Crowley leave, not knowing when or if he'd see him again, not being able to say how he felt, never knowing how the demon felt.
Everything was different.
Crowley loved him and he loved Crowley.
They both knew it.
He knew that Crowley would be back in three days.
He knew the demon would miss him, just as he had made no secret of the fact that he would miss the demon.
So, sure, that little void Nina was talking about was there, in his chest, but it was bearable because he knew Crowley would be back soon to fill it again.
So instead of focusing on that void, he decided to focus on the perspective of the demon's return.
He turned to Nina and asked with a smile on his face, "So, Nina, what sweet treats are you serving at the cafe today?"
Nina threw on that little smile she always had when she understood a situation, put her arm around Aziraphale and led him to the coffee shop, giving him a detailed list of the day's pastries.
Three days later, when she saw the Bentley parked outside the bookshop, she thought that it was unlikely that the bookseller would be coming in for a pastry today, as he probably didn't need any comfort food.
His beloved was back.
The emptiness would be filled again.

My take on what Crowley would say to whom he used to be
The windshield wipers moved lazily in their futile struggle against the raindrops. It was light, not unusual by London standards, but it still made it difficult to see the road clearly.
At least it was empty. That time of night, the time of year and the weather, were not appropriate for someone to be driving, let alone in such a hurry.
As if he wanted to escape from something.
"Would you be so kind as to slow down?"
The soft voice tingled on Crowley's nerves. As if this was the first time he'd heard it, even though they'd been on the road for several hours now, under that black cloud that seemed to perpetuate the rain no matter how hard he tried to drive away.
"At least you could answer me. I know very well that you can hear me".
Of course he could. Why else would he be so anxious?
"I'm not going to slow down, if that's what you want, and I'm not going to stop," he finally replied.
The angel, instead of taking offense at the dismissive and rude attitude, smiled. Crowley rolled his eyes under his glasses, so that the other couldn't notice, before turning up the volume on the radio. Not even Freddie's familiar and beloved voice managed to calm the demon's nervousness, and at this point he doubted there was even a chance, because all he could think about was the presence beside him.
On top of that, he kept looking at him, as if he had something very interesting to show him.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going?" asked that co-pilot of his, cheerfully.
"I already told you".
He was beginning to think that he was simply asking questions because he wanted to hear him talk. To his surprise, there was a prolonged silence as Mercury finished Somebody to love and started Love of my life, at least until Crowley turned off the radio. He didn't need to hear that song again. He'd spent years trying to fade the bitter memory of his goodbye, and just when he thought he was a little better, he'd come across this. He certainly didn't need it, he thought, for he had enough of his own problems without carrying one more.
Although, if he thought about it, that was also a problem of his own.
"Why did you take the music away? I was really liking it. What did you say it was called? Do you have any more?"
Questions and more questions. Crowley gave a sigh.
"You don't listen to music".
"But I liked that one. Besides, it's natural for me to like it, isn't it? After all, you heard it for the first time at some point, too. What's your favorite?"
Crowley didn't answer. He was too busy, pretending to pay attention to the miles of wet asphalt that lay before them, endless and dangerously tedious.
"Crowley, tell me," his annoyed co-driver insisted, after several minutes.
"What?" he growled.
"What happened?"
Crowley's brow furrowed.
"What are you talking about?" He wanted to know, though he was sure he would regret it.
"You. What happened to you?"
"What kind of stupid question is that? What the fuck do you think happened to me? Well, I fell, isn't it obvious? I'm a demon, you idiot".
The edge of his words didn't seem to have any effect.
"Yeah, but, that wasn't all, was it? I mean, how did you go from this," he said, pointing to himself and then to the other, "to that?"
And, for the first time in all those hours they'd been on the road together, Crowley turned to look at the angel. Creator of galaxies and stars, in charge of designing and crafting nebulae, of giving galaxies names. The freckles on his face were a clear symbol of his sacred work. Like an artist getting dirty with paint, a couple of particles of stardust had remained on his face, taking the shape of those pretty clear spots. His own had disappeared with his fall. That, and the clear honey-colored eyes, full of hope.
That was where the similarities ended, for even the red of her hair was lighter than his, less intense.
Crowley had planned to tell him everything. To explain to him how it was that he had fallen and how it was that he had ended up looking so deplorable in those last years. That had been his plan all along, because he thought maybe he could warn him, and spare himself so much grief.
Maybe he could save him, save himself, and in that way he could stop all the pain that came from that instant.
He could even, he thought, spare himself the grief that came from falling in love with Aziraphale.
He could start over. He could remain a naive angel, happy in his ignorance, and continue with the work he loved so much.
"Has anyone ever told you that you ask too many questions?", he finally spoke.
The angel cocked his head to one side and then shook his head.
Crowley gave a sigh. He returned his gaze to the road, an exact copy of the rest they had left behind, lonely as it should be at that time of night. The rain was still as heavy as it had been for long hours.
The demon snapped his fingers and the radio played again. This time, strangely, Tchaikovsky's classical music filled the air.
"Well, keep asking them".

He knew when he returned. 
The air changed, the world felt right again, and yet he didn’t go look for him. 
There was no reason to, not really, after everything. 
He was, after all, just a demon, just one of the bad guys. 
Why should he bother a supreme archangel?
Crowley got into the Bentley right after, shaking with the thought of his angel actually in the world again. The ache in him built, his very essence filling with pain, and yet he just closed the door and said, “Drive.” 
The radio came to life with, “How Do You Talk To An Angel,” and he turned it off with a snarl. 
“DRIVE!” 
There was almost a fear in the ol’ girl as the Bentley drove forward, a worry, and he placed his hand on the dash stroking lovingly. 
“Not mad at you, Darling,” he sighed, his voice shaking, “Not you.” 
The connection between him and his car felt right again, though their shared melancholy was palpable. They both wanted something they couldn’t have, and really despite everything Crowley wasn’t about to put himself in the midst of the good guys when he wasn’t one of them. 
He went to his flat, now even more barren than it had been before his departure. He’d spent most of the time just wallowing in his own misery, not bothering to share it again with others, and despite how angry he still felt there was a calmness there. 
He had always made him more calm. 
“Not that it matters much.” 
Crowley sat, legs spread, and felt his body ache to just feel him in close proximity. 
Just for a bit. 
Just a taste. 
Funny that he had thought him the one tempting an angel to sin, and here he was a demon desperate to just be near the angel who’d tempted him to love. 
He thought of just changing himself again, becoming a snake and throwing himself in the wild to not have to feel as much as he did. It would be dangerous, surely, but he had power enough he supposed. 
The idea had merit, more than, and he was nearly ready to just go say goodbye to the car when he felt it. 
Him. 
He felt him. 
Crowley froze, stock still, and the sound of footsteps got closer as a knock came to his door. 
He didn’t dare move, or make a sound. 
“Crowley?” 
It was a visceral reaction, his own name from his voice, and he hissed curling in on himself ready to disappear. 
So simple, to run off to Alpha Centauri, not even say goodbye, and yet he couldn’t move. 
“Crowley, dear, it’s….I know you’re upset with me. I…I would very much like to see you.” 
The tears he’d not let himself shed came in abundance then, filling his eyes, and he wanted to throw off his shades but he hadn’t since he’d left. 
He couldn’t even more now. 
“I know, I….I’ve hurt you deeply, and I didn’t….I need your help, you see, and…” 
Ah.
That was it then. 
Help. 
That was what the bad guys were good for, in his eyes. 
Help. 
Crowley felt an intense anger fill him, and he growled out. 
“FIND SOMEONE ELSE’S HELP I’M FRESH OUT HERE!” 
His hands shook when he gripped the chair, his voice ready to shake, and he waited with bated breath for the feeling of him to go. 
But it didn’t. 
“But I….I don’t want anyone else’s help, Crowley, I….I want yours. I want….I know I hurt you, and I know….please can we just….” 
Crowley stood, his shoes tapping as he rushed to the door, and he opened it ready to scream in his face. 
But one look at Aziraphale and he froze. 
“Oh,” Aziraphale said, his eyes wet with tears, “You…you opened the door.” 
Crowley’s hand shook as he gripped the door, words failing him, and the concern on Aziraphale’s face worsened. 
“Are you alright? You…you look….” 
He moved to snatch off his shades, and Crowley hissed, rearing back in fear. 
“Don’t. Don’t touch them.” 
“I….” 
Crowley sighed. “What do you want, Aziraphale?” 
The upset in Aziraphale’s eyes made his whole being ache. 
“I just….you see the world is ending again, and I….I don’t know how to stop it. I thought perhaps…” 
“I can’t help you.” 
“I…I see.” 
Crowley looked down. “Maybe it should,” he mumbled, his voice shaking, “Maybe…it would be better, wouldn’t it? If all the bad was gone, and the good took over?” 
He heard Aziraphale gasp, and the sound of his steps back had Crowley’s lip curling. 
“You…you really believe that?” 
“Why shouldn’t I?” he said, his voice a hiss, “Aren’t I just another one of those bad things?” he looked up, tears in his eyes, “You’re one of the good ones, aren’t you? You can get rid of me now and be done with it. I’m sure that’ll earn you some good points in her favor. The second coming…” 
Crowley froze when Aziraphale suddenly began to cry, his tears spilling, and he nearly doubled over as he covered his mouth. 
“A…angel?” 
He threw himself at Crowley, hugging him, and the feel of him so close made Crowley shudder. 
“Angel, why…why are you crying?” 
“You…you truly believe that I would harm you now? That I….that I despise you that much? It’s been far too long, I know but I….” he sobbed, “I….I would never…I….I….” 
Crowley put his hand on Aziraphale’s back, his chest aching, and backed them into his flat, the door shutting on its own as the plants all shivered when they walked by. He brought him to the chair, ready to move, but was pulled half down still holding him close. 
“I…you said…you left.”
“I…I know, I…I thought that….I tried, I tried so hard, Crowley, and I…I just missed you, so very much and I hated all of them. I hated it there, and I could not stop thinking about you, and your…” he looked up at him with tears still on his face, “The way you’d looked at me.” 
Crowley was shaking when he reached up, pulling the shades off his face, and he closed his eyes tight. 
“Crowley.” 
“You should…you should go, I…” 
He turned away, gasping, and was ready to move when he was pulled down, landing in Aziraphale’s lap. Crowley stared at him, eyes wide, and when he touched his face he let out a whimper as he closed his eyes again. 
“Crowley, why…please I want to see your eyes. I….” 
Tears fell down his cheeks. 
“Angel…I can’t. I…” 
It was infinitesimal, he knew later, a small tiny kiss on his cheek, but he felt it was if he’d been swallowed whole, gasping for breath when he looked up at Aziraphale in shock. 
“Crowley.” 
“You…you kissed me.” 
Aziraphale blushed. “Yes, I….I’m not as bold as you were, obviously, but…I wanted you to know I care for you, very deeply, and I wasn’t…I was unsure if you’d open your eyes again for words without action.” 
He smiled. “It was a bloody shit kiss, angel, really.” 
Aziraphale frowned. “Was it? I mean, I don’t quite know much about kissing, not unless you can say my reading habits of romance or the many many humans I’ve seen kissing over the last…” 
Crowley cut him off, kissing him quiet, and the feel of him kissing back made him ache. He hissed as Aziraphale pulled on his tie, moving them in closer, and his body felt hotter than the fires of hell when his angel’s hand moved down his chest. They stopped, both staring with eyes open for what felt like the first time in existence, and Aziraphale’s smile brought tears to his eyes once again. 
“Was that…better?” 
He laughed. “Of course it was, angel,” he said, touching his cheek, “I did it, so obviously it was much better than your horrid attempt.” 
“Crowley, I…I missed you. I….I….love you.” 
“Angel…” 
“I know it’s far too late for me to say it now, but….even if you want the world to end I want to be with you till then. Can I be? Will you….is this….” 
Crowley pressed their foreheads together, mouths close enough for another kiss but he didn’t attempt one. 
They didn’t need it. 
“I love you, Angel,” he said, “I….I’ve missed you too, Azira—” 
He was kissed quiet then, much to his surprise, but he didn’t care. 
The world might end, truly, but they were together. 
Everything felt right again. 
As it should be.

supernatural s11e1 out of the darkness, into the fire (w. jeremy carver)
i'm feeling very dispirited about my ability to watch the entire series, gotta say. i'd been kind of looking forward to s11 because i have some vague notions of a few of the episodes. ah well. tally-ho
dean sucked up by the darkness straight away, great (scrolling through my internal rolodex of ladies i very vaguely know of from fic. amara??). turns out our nice boy is just taking a nap with the flowers
sam's hair situation looks improved, looks like they let it grow out so it's uneven in the back and flipping up in parts again instead of a shaped smooth bob situation
they're getting a little more creative with the effects with rolling in the flashbacks, which is neat. though using the same effect (differently but similar enough) for dean and sam's recollection, less neat

cas has progressed to rabid wet kitten i see

all right so. just the moral calculation of culpability in all the rando human deaths at scale due to ye olde brothers. letting lucifer out i think is zero sum, they were pushed by heaven and hell to make it happen. sam saved a lot of people by jumping into the cage to lock lucifer (and michael and poor adam) back up, that's gotta add a good number in the black. (cas has got some big negatives with the whole god-stint and releasing the leviathans i wager. oh and the whole angels falling business). choosing for sam to live instead of closing the gates of hell forever, well that is less definable but seems like a big fat red number on dean's tally, but probably less than would have died with lucifer and michael duking it out? so if we consider them one (ofc) they're still in the black. this business with the darkness though, is a lot more definable and in your face if we're seeing this hospital full of dead people on their first jaunt out post evil!twister. curious what kind of guilt they're gonna lay at sam's feet. he gets squirrely when it's people in the way of having dean. anyway. i think y'all might be the bad guys 😔
moving on, finally.
oh funny, the deputy was the original fen in the magicians which i've definitely mentioned before while watching this. aha, she was in 7x22 with rick worthy (dean fogg on the magicians, spn alpha vampire). those light eyes and dark hair are very striking and memorable

sam's talking big picture logistics and dean's just like wtf is the other option right at this moment
DEAN We have a plan, okay? It's the same plan as it's always been. In order to get out, we go through. SAM And? How's that been working for us? DEAN We can't save Cas if we're stuck in some hospital, okay? Just like I can't strap on a time machine, go back, and tell Cain to shove that Mark up his ass or stop you from releasing the darkness. Now, have we made mistakes? Yes. Hell, yes. And we can analyze each and every one of them over a couple of frosties when we're old and farting sawdust and out of this room! Right now, all I can do is I can gear up, I can head out, and I can save that freaking baby, which is exactly what I'm gonna do.

so i guess sam's guilt caused a come to jesus moment about killing the people (rabids??? zombies) who we've seen already have an inherently short shelf life even without intervention. guess that's why he refused to shoot one despite the crying baby. this doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. i can see sam having this thinking, but not in this situation and moment.

1. Neil Gaiman, Douglas Mackinnon and Rob Wilkins
What do they have from Good Omens:
Rob has the statue from St. Beryls, all four motorbikes from the four horsemen, Crowley’s Devon watch, box signed by David Tennant with Crowley’s sunglasses and Aziraphale’s cocoa mug with Michael Sheen’s DNA :).
Douglas has the playing cards from Episode 1 and heavily annotated Good Omens book they used for filming with inscription by Neil: ‘For Douglas, make us love, make us cry, 3rd August 2017’.
Neil has Aziraphale’s chair from the bookshop that he bought from the BBC and he uses it for Zoom meetings.
What is their favourite thing that was not in the book and was added to the TV show:
Neil: all of the first half of Episode 3 - an absolute joy.
Rob: also the beginning of Episode 3.
Douglas: David Arnold’s music and Peter Anderson’s front titles.
Could Aziraphale get out of the Bastille easily if he wanted to?
Neil: if he could: absolutely. Did he have any conception of the mess he was in: probably not. It’s one of Neil’s favourite pieces of acting - the absolute delight on Aziraphale’s face when he realizes that Crowley’s there and then he turns around and rather petulantly, grumpily goes oh it’s you - that moment of joy on Aziraphale’s face when he realizes that he’s been rescued is one of Neil’s favourite things. 
Neil and yoghurt starter: I had this slightly mad thing where I would explain to everybody that fans were yoghurt starter. And I said, ‘Basically you start out with yoghurt starter and you put it into your warm milk and you leave it, and the yoghurt starter goes off and turns the entire thing into yoghurt. 
Neil realized that there was a cat in his house (Neil doesn’t have a cat :)). After the panel Neil said that he was going to look for the cat with a can of sardines and Douglas joked that he would find Michael Sheen in a cat costume.
What was the best and worst about making the series:
Douglas: the best - the camaraderie, getting to know the people, the cast and crew. 
Rob: the best - realizing that the book could be translated to the screen and watching it happen. The worst - coming to the end of the shoot and saying goodbye to everybody.
Neil: the best - the amount of love from everybody, the worst - fighting budget battles (producers wanted gone all of the cold opening and the death of Agnes Nutter).
Did they expect that Good Omens would attract so many LBGTQ+ people and how they feel about that:
Neil: Yes, absolutely. There are definitely people out there who seem to think that I accidentally wrote a love story with all of the beats of a love story including a break-up halfway through, without somehow noticing that I’d written a love story. And I may not be the brightest candle on the candelabra, but as an author who’s been doing it for a long time, I’m very well aware of when I’m writing a love story, thank you very much. And so from my perspective I knew that the love story would be one of the driving things that would get us from the beginning to the end. And I also made a bunch of decisions about our angels and our demons in terms of casting, in terms of gender that everybody backed me up on, which I loved. You know, the idea that the archangel Michael is played by Doon [Mackichan] is something that is... or Beelzebub is Anna Maxwell Martin, whatever, there’s... it’s not like we are going: these are women, there are men, we are going: these are demons, these are angels. They... this is not a thing. And also doing something like Pollution, where you go in and go: okay  well if we were doing this in... if 1989 was now, if there were they pronouns, we probably would have done that. We didn’t think of it at the time but that’s no reason why we can’t do it now. And we did and I remember having a... not exactly a battle, but a... my very tiny skirmish with one of our execs who was very nice and very bright and was like: ‘Why are you saying they?’, and I’m like... and I... explaining, and he’s like: ‘Well I’ve never heard of that before.’, and I’m like: ‘Oh, okay, but trust me, just trust me, it’s all fine, just trust me.’
Douglas: And you know I have to say, just following on what Neil’s saying, I’ve been directing for quite a while, and I tend to notice if characters are falling in love, I tend to notice a love story happening in front of me, and I think it’s there, and everything is meant, guys, everything is meant.
Neil added: I would just say, there are some things that you do while you’re writing a script intentionally. The fact that... I wanted to do this, well, it was a thing I did that I really enjoyed doing... where whenever people accuse them of being a couple: they don’t deny it, they don’t argue, there’s no flustering on their part. They absolutely… you know, everybody… what I’m trying to say is:  yes, other people in the story are perceiving them as a couple too. And here is Uriel perceiving them as a couple, here is wonderful Dan [Starkey, playing the passerby] …and you know, you do scenes like that because that’s... you are trying to make a point here and you’re trying to make a point on how people are perceived.
Season 2, yes or no [fiends, all three of them!]:
Douglas: What’s that?
Neil: Of what?
Rob: Is it muted for me as is for everyone else?
Neil confirmed that they are going to be Funko Pops. [yay!]
2. David G. Arnold (the music composer)
He didn’t read the book before he was approached to do the music. He was asked to do it by Douglas Mackinnon he knew from the Victorian episode of Sherlock and he said yes before even knowing what it was about because he wanted to work with Douglas again.  
The first piece of music he wrote for the show was the brass band doing the Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon [Episode 6, in the park before the kidnapping].
The second piece of music he wrote was the lullaby that Crowley sings to Warlock. He always liked the lullabies like in Mary Poppins so he said to Neil: Why don’t we do it like Walt Disney, but if Walt Disney was possessed by Satan? That was about 7 months before he needed to write anything again while they were shooting and it kept going round his head the whole time - the melody stuck with him and when it came to the Opening Title of the show, this became the middle bit.
The original opening title was Everyday by Buddy Holly and each episode was supposed to be closed with a different version of it: a death metal version, an angelic choir version, a carmina burana version... and he actually made all those. But he likes to find the musical identity of the show and put it in the opening titles because it’s important and it tells you: ‘This is the word you’re going to experience’, so he wrote his own opening title with the lullaby in the middle and played it to them [probably Neil and Douglas] with Buddy Holly as the backup and: Neil just turned around in his chair and said, ‘That’s Good Omens.’. From that point the instructions were with no rules, just to create whatever he wanted: the further you can go the better, the weirder and the stranger you can think the better. It’s a rare thing to be shown a world like Good Omens and be let free to run around in it. 
His favourite ending title is the Queen one in Episode 1.
One of the reasons he didn’t do a theme for Crowley and a theme for Aziraphale is that the theme of the show is theirs - it’s theirs and they share it and it’s both of theirs and there is no separating in that regard. 
About Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship reflected in the music score: It’s interesting isn’t it, because the relationship changed in a way slightly frequently and majorly infrequently. It seemed right from the start that their relationship was somehow seeded and planted and had begun by the time we saw them even though they may not have realised it themselves, you know, with the pair of them on the wall, considering one is a demon in the Garden of Eden and one is an angel. They act very charitably towards each other and they act with a lot of things you might not expect. And underneath that there is a sort of sense of togetherness and support even though they both know that their paths are going to diverge and they have different responsibilities. So I always felt like, right from that moment, when the wing came up on the wall, that there was something special about their relationship. Three moments that stuck with him: in Episode 3 saving the books in the church when they completely rely on the other for survival in the way that they were very open about, one in the car outside the nightclub in 60s Soho - the Holy Water, you go too fast for me, that genuinely tearing, that there was reluctance in those words that he spoke and that sort of things as a composer is gold, it’s about making those moments more, and in the last episode in a scene they’re not event in when we see Adam and Dog in the fields and Anathema that music there which celebrates Crowley and Aziraphale’s music which is the theme of the show - their shadow has passed over everyone’s emotional journey, and everyone’s emotional journey is theirs as well. The argument in the bandstand was important as well.
His favourite leitmotif from the series is the lullaby.
About the scene in the car in episode 2 when Thomas Tallis changes into Queen: Terry’s favourite piece of classical music was the Thomas Tallis piece [Spem in Alium] so Neil asked if they can go from Thomas Tallis - a choral piece from 16th century - to We Will Rock You, and: ‘You never say no. You don’t say that you can’t do it. What you have to do is to be the first person who solves the problem.’ In the end it was a two-days work just for this little bit and he mentioned that he never had these sorts of challenges anywhere else before.
His favourite non-musical detail in the show - the crucifixion, how the scene was shot, how it was upsetting, and how it was made more effective by Aziraphale and Crowley’s inability to stop it, that they had to observe and watch it, that it had to happen. I remember seeing that at the time and thinking, I wasn’t expecting that level of brutal honesty, in terms of the pictures that I was looking at and what they chose to show. And I think all the more effective for it. 
3. Claire Anderson (the costume designer)
When creating the costumes for the characters she started with mood boards. 
Aziraphale - she knew that he needed to have something winglike in his collar so that’s why there are sweeping lapels very often. Using velvet [for the waistcoat] because that was nice and soft and had all the appropriate qualities. His watch and fob that has little gold wings hanging from it and other tiny bits of symbolism. Tartan bow tie. Beautiful cashmere checkered trousers - not quite tartan but a nod to it. A mid to late Victorian coat, Michael only made his decision on the coat a couple of days before the filming. Aziraphale in the present settled on a ring with angelic symbol and harp cufflinks, earlier his ring in ancient times has got a much more roughly hewn set of wings on it, so before jewellery making became sophisticated he modernised slightly - he magicked it up to be a bit more modern, more gentleman signet type of ring, but he never modernises entirely. His heart is much more in the past.
After they began to define Aziraphale they started to look at how the Heaven army of angels might look - the element of tartan came sort of from Aziraphale and the angels have a not-tartan kilt with a semi military type jacket and a military band across that might hold arms or not, because they are not really violent. She used spats to make them look quite neutral and genderless so hiding fastenings and concealing little details like that seemed a way to do that.
Gabriel doesn’t wear spats because he’s on Earth such a lot. His shoe has a cover with two buckles on the side giving the same neutral element. He wears a cashmere light-as-air suit.
The other angels are all in bastardized versions of what era they may have died in, so they could have died in the 1930s or the 1800s and the costume would have an element of that era about it - though of course as an angel you can change things.
The Quartermaster Angel - the costume is a combination of slightly Indian type military, maharaja pants, longer spats from another era, all combined pieces of military tailored to be magical and slightly nonsensical, as Heaven might be.
Crowley - she felt that he wrapped around like a snake sheds its skin so she wanted something double breasted because that seemed to envelope his snakey charm. David wanted to be more casual than wearing a suit. Under his collar he always has a flash of red like the snake that he comes from - the red belly. They put a red seam into the sole of his boots so always there is a hint of where he came from. The red tie in the blitz. He was more rock and roll than Aziraphale and modernised more to a snakehipped rock and roll star really. His present jacket - the fabric there is quilted, they found an 80s jacket that had elements of things they enjoyed - part of that was that it had a slightly quilted quality to the fabric which was like a textured snakeskin. It took quite a long time to create the fabric and then to make the jacket from that - they quilted some fabric and washed and whooshed it repeatedly to create a bit of puckering in it. He has a snakey scarf around his neck like a chain mail linked scales of skin scarf that he wore that complemented his neck chain. The trousers he wore in Victorian times are the same he wore in the 60s when he meets young Shadwell. His present trousers - slightly waxy denim - we just were looking for a slithery finish. Crowley’s neck chain - there is only one in the world - her tailor has a Gothic church full of interesting stuff like busts and drapes with old things, this chain mail scarf was there and David was looking for something to complete his costume and liked it. 
Hastur and Ligur are her favourite characters - they were so enjoyable to create. She had an amazing book of 1920s and 30s criminals and they used that as a starting point, because they were all quite worn out and bedraggled and poverty stricken and like hell might be ideally. They burnt and decayed the bottom of them as if they were rotting from the Earth and rotting back into the ground - all demons have sort of gators as if they were rotting from the ground up.
One of the most difficult things was the demons - when they realized they had a few days to create hundreds of demons in South Africa (4-5 days for almost 200 demons). It was as if I had been dissolved in holy water when they asked me for another 150 costumes.
The sleeves of Anathema’s coat have been inspired by a Victorian cycling coat. 
The historical costume that Newt’s ancestor wore influenced his and Shadwell’s costumes - they used elements of the historical costume to put a little cape on Newt and Shadwell and their wax coats to give them the quality of that look. Newt's costume has a lot of mustard to make him feel a bit awkward and uncomfortable - it's not the most flattering colour on a northern European complexion.
The nuns’ headdress needed to look a little bit demonic - she bought a whole book on nuns’ headdresses for research. They also used the V in the nurse's apron because that was nicely demonic. The nurses' watch has got this Satanic symbol at the top - a little take on the medical since old nurses’ uniforms used to have watches.
For Madame Tracy she went back into the 70s, slightly Biba-esque makeup and a cape. They had only one pair of her goggles so it was always a nightmare to find them.
Which part of the cold opening is her favourite: I love ancient Rome because there is at least 6 to 12 metre of fabric in a toga and that was quite fun wrapping that around the boys and creating those., and her favourite was the Globe.
The lapels represent wings in every way and every shape and every form. Wings are very important.
4. Peter Anderson (Peter Anderson Studio created the opening title animation and in-show graphics)
The first thing that the director Douglas Mackinnon (with whom he worked on Doctor Who and Sherlock) said to him was: for all the graphics, for all the title sequence, for everything, I want you to promise me one thing, and that is very, very simple, promise that you send me emails that say: ‘this might be absolutely nuts, but my idea is...’.
The opening title it’s full of easter eggs - it’s a type of sequence that’s been designed to watch a thousand times, for example: on the escalator down to Hell there is one character running up deciding that he doesn’t want to go to Hell or the sea is full of plastic bags because we don’t look after the planet.
Every single face in the title sequence is either Crowley’s or Azriphale’s, they are repeated all the way through - inspired by Neil saying that there’s good and evil in all of us, so there is a grand procession of people of all the characters from the story - marching towards Armageddon - but all the characters have been taken over by good or evil. And along the way our two heroes are kind of playing tricks on each other, doing good, doing evil
The opening title combines multiple elements - two dimensional animation elements, three dimensional animation elements, CGI and live action (the people in the procession were created by live action on a travelator). So the result is a kind of strangeness - such as 3D figures with 2D animated tracked heads - which makes it unique.
Their first idea and version of the opening title was based on tapestries of old, subverting them, but then they wanted something more new and fresh.
Both Douglas and Neil were an important part of the opening title creation process.
The opening title sequence took about a year to make from the creative start with four intensive months towards the end.
One of things that inspired him was a Bauhaus theatre image from 1930s.
Question if the hand-drawn font for the graphics will be a purchasable font: no, because it was original and it’s unique and it was created just for this - it was for the love of the show and the story and it will be kept there.
In the scene where there are three photos of witchfinders - Neil and Douglas revealed in the DVD commentaries that two of them are their grandfathers - the third one is Peter’s great uncle.
Originally the signs telling us things like ‘Thursday’ or ‘Mesopotamia’ - were done as if somebody (who was living inside the television screen) ran up close to the screen and showed us the sign. In the end they simplified it, only showing the signs. The one time that it was sort of left in the show was when in Episode 5 a little demon in the video game shows a sign ‘GAME OVER’.
Outside of his work on it, what was his favourite thing on Good Omens: spending time with Douglas and Neil, and also working with Milk VFX - I think I can honestly say it's the best job I've ever worked on with the nicest people. 
5. Paul Adeyefa (Disposable Demon)
He first read the book when preparing for the audition - the character wasn’t in the book but he got into it, loved it and couldn’t put it down.
He didn’t know about the name Eric until the script was published and people started calling the demon that, he really likes the name and thinks it fits.
There was a version of the script where the demon was going to be dressed in different costumes each time he was discorporated (for example one in long hair wearing a dress) - they would be all the same but different incarnations, in one version they had different accents. 
The first scene he shot was the one where the demon goes to Heaven to deliver the Hellfire (and also wants to hit ‘Aziraphale’ which was cut). That first day was also his favourite moment of shooting because there was an immediate welcoming atmosphere and everyone was lovely and in love with the production.
Disposable Demon is like a permanent intern, running errands for the higher ups in Hell.
His favourite part of the costume were the eyelashes (though he loved the whole costume).
If he could change anything about the costume he would also want cool contact lenses - some brightly coloured ones.
Question what animal (like other demons have on their heads) comes to mind when we see the Disposable Demon: he didn’t think about it at the time, but later he saw people talking about his horns as bunny ears and found it interesting, and also the facts that there are so many of him and that he is quite happy and friendly for a demon so the bunny makes sense, so he might be a sort of a rabbit. Or perhaps something goat type because of the horns.
Question if there is another role in Good Omens he would have liked to have played: he always thought that the four horsemen were very cool and Pollution was his favourite so probably Pollution (also was the most jealous of Pollution’s contact lenses). 
If there were a season 2, he would be there in a heartbeat.
Question about Eric’s feelings on Crowley, if he’s a bit of a Crowley fan: I think he might be. There is something about Crowley and how he is somehow a little bit different from the rest of the demons. - and the Disposable Demon has, much like Crowley, interest in the human world. He could well be 6,000 how many years old, the same as everyone else, but he seems to have this younger vibe and I think he thinks that Crowley is quite cool.
Good Omens fandom is his first experience with a fandom of this scale. It speaks a lot, the fact that this kind of very, this minor character, a character who is only on screen for a very short amount of time gets any kind of attention at all, it's quite amazing really, it goes to show how big and enthusiastic the fans are. I never experienced anything like that.
6. Jeremy Marshall-Roberts (the owner of Mary the Bentley)
When Crowley used a miracle to switch off the Bentley lights in Episode 1 at nuns manor it was done by: there was actually a very small guy called Louis turning on and off the switches quickly.
David Tennant was allowed to wear the snake eye contacts for only 3 hours a day otherwise they could damage his eyesight.
For Mary, the Bentley, it was the second time she was ‘blown up’ on film - first being in the Endeavour with Inspector Morse about three years earlier.
He was a bit nervous during filming the bookshop fire scene because the Bentley was so close to a real fire - not wanting the paint to blister. The car was moved off after a few minutes of filming but still.
About the damage to Mary: Unfortunately, we overran, and Rob my stunt driver had already booked a holiday and off he went and so when he returned in January, on the 10th of January, I had this new driver who really had no clue how to drive old cars, so I showed him around, I showed him to go around corners. He came around the corner, the door was not closed properly for some reason and the door flew open as he went around. And instead of slamming on the brakes which is extremely efficient and would stop him straight away he kept on going, hit another car and really smashed the door quite badly. It did take the car off the roads for 10 months. The door was completely remade because of this accident and it cost the total of  £24 000 to rebuild the car to get it back to running as it is today.
The Bentley’s part most difficult to maintain and service is the engine. 
Would Mary be available for a potential season 2: definitely!

15x20 Coda
Can’t believe it’s the year of our Lord 2020 and I’m writing Supernatural fix it fics at 3am.... This truly is the bad place. Anyway here’s what happened immediately after the credits rolled on whatever that was...
“Sam and Dean stood, arms around each other looking out towards the vista. Heaven. Their heaven. United again, after everythi-“
“-Is he for real?”
“That’s what was saved on my computer. Supernatural – Final Draft.”
“This is bullshit.”
Becky shrugged, taking her laptop back from Sam as his face twitched uncomfortably. 
“Who did I even marry? Like, it wasn’t even Eileen?”
“I don’t know man but you named your kid after me. I’m holding you to that one.”
“I don’t even want kids. Our lives are crazy. Why would I do that to a kid?”
“Well I’m just glad Chuck didn’t get to go ahead with that one.” Becky said, sitting back down with her laptop, “I mean all of his drafts were honestly terrible but that one… I mean it didn’t even make sense considering your character arcs. Dean literally died like he thought he would at the beginning of the series and Sam, grows old with a random woman and doesn’t do anything with his life and not even mentioning Cas even though he was right there in heaven-“
Becky looked up to find Sam and Dean staring at her.
“I’m sorry, not that you guys are just characters or anything. But just, when I came back and I found that I was really worried you’d actually died in barn because you fell on a nail.”
“Yeah well I will be avoiding all barns from now on.”
Thunk. The three of them looked up to where Cas had knocked over a Funko Pop Sam.
“Sorry,” Cas readjusted Funko Sam so he could go back to back to fighting Funko Crowley.
There was an awkward moment of silence as the group processed the revelation of Chuck’s ending. Becky sipped her tea as Cas sat back down next to Dean. Dean looked over to him, their eyes met briefly and they shared a small smile.
“Did I never even ask about Cas?” Sam shook his head breaking the silence. “Like, you come back from fighting Billie and say he’s dead and I just… never question it?”
“Well, none of you seemed very upset about my death in that story.” He turned back to Dean, “You were far more concerned with the pie and the dog.”
“To be fair that was probably the only thing that felt right there – pie is more important.”
Cas rolled his eyes and picked up another biscuit from the tray Becky had brought them. Ever since becoming human again he’d picked up a real sweet tooth. Dean was silently waiting for when Sam would start having a go at him too about healthy diets.
Like hell I’m going because of a rusty nail in a barn, Dean thought, I’m getting killed by a heart attack and Cas’s gonna die of diabetes. Sammy’ll still get to outlive us both though.
“It’d be nice to think Jack is doing that with heaven though.” Sam said, “You know, rebuilding things, making it actually good.”
“I guess we’ll have to see when we get there. Which will not be soon, we fought for a bit of peace and I’m intending to actually enjoy mine.”
“We can just ask him next time he’s home.” Cas added.
Dean shook his head stifling a laugh with his hand, “Can you imagine if we’d made him God I mean- He’s three for crying out loud. He made me buy him a Marvellous Marvin the Talking Teddy three months ago.”
“You bought him that?”
“Wait so Jack didn’t become God?”
“God no, no he’s not God.” Dean plucked the biscuit Cas had just picked up out of his hand and started to eat it, “I mean he is up in heaven, but he’s just helping Michael get things running again with all the angels back from the Empty.”
“I’m confused, so you didn’t kill Chuck?”
“Noash fukind matr-“
“Chuck’s gone, but he’s not dead.” Sam interrupted the garbled explanation Dean was trying to make through a mouthful of cookie. “We found a way to umm- bind him I guess? In his own mind so he didn’t even know it was happening. Rowena and I did the spell and Dean set the trap.”
“I was still as useless as in Chuck’s version.” Cas clarified taking another biscuit to make up for his stolen one.
“Hey, if you hadn’t saved me from Billie we’d all have been toast. You were key.”
“Wait so Chuck’s not human and he’s not dead?”
“No- God I can’t believe he made himself human. I can’t believe we made him human and then said that was a punishment – sorry, no he’s kind of in a uhhh…”
“Alternate universe.” Sam added, “but one just for him. It’s more like an alternative plane of reality inside his own mind where he can write whatever stories he wants and think they’re real but they’re not. They can’t hurt anyone.”
“But he’s God so…. They might be real? He could be making them real.”
Sam twisted his mouth thinking, it was something he’d considered but didn’t want to dwell on.
“Well it’s not us.” Dean declared, “And honestly, if he makes another world with other Sams and Deans and Cas’s and Jacks then they’ll defeat him some other way. Like Inception, but with God!” He grinned at his reference even as the rest of the room ignored him.
Becky leant back in her armchair letting out a sigh of relief. “I’m glad you guys are ok. You too Cas, he was really adamant about killing you off.”
“Dean was very adamant about bringing me back.” Cas looked over to Dean, a soft smile and look of adoration of his face.
Dean blushed, trying to cover it up with a cough. “Yeah well, I had some stuff to say.”
Becky grinned, taking a sip of her tea as Sam suddenly started to find the wallpaper very interesting.
“So, what are you guys going to do know?” Becky asked after the moment had become sufficiently awkward. “I mean no Chuck, no apocalypse, no world to save. Are you going to keep hunting, or…?”
Sam, Dean and Cas looked at each other.
“I don’t know,” Sam said. 
“Honestly, I’m thinking Chuck had it right with the pie festival.”
Becky and Sam laughed at that.
Cas took another biscuit

Dean closed the boot of the Impala with a soft thud. Becky had given each of them one of her dioramas she sold on Etsy. It was always a bit weird being reminded that their life was a story that some people liked to collect stuff from for fun but he had to admit the miniature scale replica of Baby she’d given him was awesome.
Sam stood at the door giving Becky a hug and thanking her for the lunch. She hadn’t quite explained to the rest of the family who these three strange large men were that were randomly joining them for lunch beyond “They’re just some Supernatural fans I know from the internet.” Her husband had spent the entire time struggling to believe that lie even moreso after Cas had slightly traumatised one of the kids with an in-depth description of the dangers of invasive wasps to honey bee colonies.
Dean wandered over to where Cas stood beside Sam and Becky.
“Thanks again for checking on us Becky.” Dean said, accepting the hug she gave him.
“Of course, I always knew you’d beat him but it’s good to know for sure.”
“Sure is.” Dean took a step back, “Well I guess we’ll be seeing you?”
“Next Supernatural convention?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Even if there’s a ghost?”
“You do know we’re not the only hunters in America.” 
Becky bit her lip.
“What?”
“Nothing,” she paused, “it’s just, this is exactly how I would have written it.”
Sam raised his eyebrows in surprise, Dean brows knitted as Cas tilted his head.
“I don’t- not that you had to go through all that. Just that now you can actually take a break. Be normal, do your laundry-“
“-Sam and Dean have always done their laundry. That’s how they clean their clothes.” Cas piped up in confusion.
“-Be happy. Get to actually enjoy living in the world you saved. Have free will and be at peace.”
Dean chuckled, “I mean I’m personally good with never doing my laundry. But you’re right, it’s weird but good.”
“We’ll stay in touch Becky.” Sam said.
“I’ll hold you to that.”
They waved their goodbyes and walked back over to the Impala. Dean got in behind the wheel, Sam in shotgun and Cas in the back.
Turning the key the Impala revved to life. The radio began to sing, the opening chords to Kansas’s Carry on Wayward Song filling the car. 
Dean slammed the radio off.
“God, I think Chuck has forever ruined that song for me.”
Sam laughed, in the back Cas even let out a chuckle as he leant his head against the window ready for the long drive home.
It wasn’t their heaven. Not yet anyway. And that made it so much more.

Sometime after Cas gets his grace back, but before Dean knows that the angel riding his brother’s meatsuit is Gadreel, not Ezekiel, Dean finds himself in a pawn shop. Generally, he finds himself in pawn shops pretty often--not as often as like, someone who deals in pawns, but more often than the average person, Dean thinks. 
He’s there to see if they’ve got any guns for cheap, since he basically always needs more guns. None of the ones at that shop strike his fancy, so he walks around and looks at the other things. Browsing. Just in case--he has a house (well, a Bunker, but same thing) now, and maybe he should decorate. Maybe.
Dean passes by the jewelry without much more than a cursory glance, then he doubles back and stares. There’s a ring--a twisted band of white gold and silver, and something about it… It’s not something Dean would wear. He’s not sure what about the ring compels him, but he feels like Gollum as he looks at it and knows he needs it. What for, he has no idea.
Dean buys it. He doesn’t wear it, but sticks it in a flat little box originally meant for a bracelet and slides it into his jacket pocket. 
And he carries it, jacket pocket to jacket pocket, for years. He doesn’t tell anybody about it, but he gets into the habit of patting his chest to make sure it’s still there. Even when he’s a demon-- Crowley goes through Dean’s clothes one day, when Dean’s laying on the motel room bed naked, and he finds the box. 
“What’s this?” Crowley asks, and the First Blade is in Dean’s hand before he can process the movement. The First Blade is in Dean’s hand a lot, these days. 
“Open that and I’ll kill you,” Dean says, looking at Crowley dead in the eye so he knows that Dean isn’t fucking kidding, and Crowley stares back for a minute before he tosses the box aside and goes back into Dean’s pocket. He pulls out a condom, and the box is quickly forgotten. 
Anyway. The ring is there, in Dean’s pocket. It stays there. It’s there when Dean kills the Stynes, when he meets Amara, when he hugs his mom for the first time in thirty years. It’s there when he goes to the Apocalypse World, and the Bad Place, and Purgatory (again). 
And it’s there in that fucking dungeon, when Cas puts his hand on Dean’s shoulder and looks him in the eyes, smiling and crying. Dean feels it, burning a hole in his pocket, as Cas says things like most loving man in the whole world and you changed me and and one thing I want is something I know I can’t have and I love you and, worst of all, goodbye, Dean.
And Dean sits there, sobbing into his palms, and he knows what the ring was for.

Dean wraps one hand around an angel blade and curls the other into a fist. He nods at Sam, then Eileen, then he leaps into the dark pit on the wall that haunts his nightmares. 
The Empty is dark and, well, empty. His footsteps echo like he’s on a marble floor, but as far as Dean can tell there’s no difference between the walls and floor and ceiling. It’s just black. 
Dean tightens his grip on his angel blade, and he finds the first body. 
It’s a man in a grey coat. Dean doesn’t recognize him, and he keeps walking. 
Dean sees a woman in a leather jacket, a man wearing a torn polo shirt, and a woman dressed like a lounge singer. He sees a child in a pink dress and a man in a black sweater. Then there’s a fan of red hair, and Dean falters. 
Anna lays in the Empty, hair scattered around her head. Her eyes are closed and her chest moves slowly, as if in a deep, deep sleep. Dean swallows, heavy, and keeps walking. Next time, he thinks. Next time he’ll wake everyone.
The next body he sees is another unknown--old man in a brown blazer--but the one after that is someone familiar. Dean squints, decides it’s one of the douche angels he or his brother has killed over the years.
The body after that one is Ruby, and Dean gives her a wide berth. Then it’s Balthazar and Lilith and Hannah. Uriel and Raphael, Hester and Samandriel. Dagon and Ramiel. Azazel.
Alastair.
Dean keeps walking. For every body he recognizes, laying in a coma-like sleep, there’s four or five more that he’s never seen before. Some of them look vaguely familiar, like a demon he ran into once or Background Angel #5. 
Dean walks by Ishim right before he walks by Meg, and the next couple are random demons Dean vaguely remembers from his own time as one. Dean nearly trips over his own face, then he hustles to keep away from the alternate Michael. 
He’s not sure what he’ll do if he runs into Crowley. Not sure at all. But--
in the distance, a trench coat. 
Dean sprints, slides to his knees. Cups Cas’s face with his hand, leans in close. 
“Wake up,” he murmurs. “Wake up, Cas. Come on.”
Cas doesn’t stir. 
Dean shakes him. 
“Wake up, man,” he says. 
“Yeah, that’s not gonna happen,” a voice says, and Dean looks up to see a vaguely humanoid shaped black blob of goo. It crosses it’s arms. “You can’t be here.”
“I’m getting him back,” Dean tells it. “I’m taking him home.”
“And how do you plan to do that?” the Shadow asks. “He’s mine.” 
“No, he’s not,” Dean says.
“What do you mean?” the Shadow asks, tilting its head. Dean considers throwing his knife at it. “We had a deal, and now he is here, and he belongs to me. Fully and completely.”
“Fuck you,” Dean says. “He’s not yours, he’s mine, and I’m taking him home.”
And with that, Dean presses the tip of his angel blade to Cas’s throat. His grace spills out like smoke, spreading through the air, and Cas’s eyes open and he gasps. The Shadow shrieks. 
“No!” it wails. “You can’t do this!”
“I already did, asshole,” Dean spits, and then the last of Cas’s grace evaporates, and Dean grabs onto Cas’s arm, and everything goes white, then black. 
Then Dean’s on the library floor, and he stares up at the Bunker’s golden lighting for a moment before turning to face Cas. 
“Cas!”
“Dean,” Cas says. He’s still laying on the ground, and he props himself on his elbows. “What happened?”
“I got you out,” Dean says. He laughs. Cas is looking at him with wide blue eyes, and Dean feels like he might start to cry. Instead, he throws himself at Cas, tucks his face into Cas’s neck, holds him tight. Cas falls back to the floor, wrapping his arms around Dean, and for a moment they breathe together. “You stupid son of a bitch,” Dean breathes. “You can’t fucking do that again.”
“I won’t,” Cas says. His voice is rough and deep, right next to Dean’s ear. Dean thinks he might cry. 
“You have to stay,” Dean says. “You have to stay.”
“I will,” Cas says. Cas promises. “Oh, Dean.”
Dean pulls back, just a little, and cups Cas’s face with his hands. “Cas,” he says. 
“Hello, Dean,” Cas says, eyes bright and sparkly, and Dean kisses him. 
He kisses him, and Cas kisses him back, and Dean thinks--well, if he had an Empty deal that would take him when he felt true happiness--Dean would be dead right now.
He pulls back, drops his forehead to Cas’s. “God, I love you so fuckin’ much.”
“You do?” Cas asks, and Dean hates himself. Cas should know that he’s--he’s Dean’s favorite person and Dean’s best friend and Dean loves, loves, loves him. He reaches into his jacket, into the inside pocket. 
“Yeah,” he says, and he presses the ring box into Cas’s hand. “I do.”

There's never a response, but Dean feels the breeze rustle through his hair and watches the flowers bob when bees come to them and stares as the windmill keeps turning, turning, turning. And he imagines that Cas is replying—the windmill is the tilted head, the bobbing flowers are a gentle smile, the breeze is whatever words Dean wants to hear at the time.

"What... What broke the connection?", Dean asks and Castiel is speechless.
He knows. He knows, he knows, he knows; he can't name it though. He is still way too new at this, he is still too overwhelmed, and he still doesn't know what is going on.
"I don't know", he stutters eventually, and disappears before they have a chance to begin a real conversation. He rests his forehead on the bus' window and he does something angels aren't allowed to do.
He daydreams.

“I am sorry I kicked you out of the bunker”, Dean says, and it looks like he truly is sorry and feels bad and Castiel wants to brush it off and forgive him; no, actually Castiel would gladly pretend it never ever happened.
But there is something bitter in his mouth. He wants to scream at Dean, because he is hurt, because the one person he would bet everything on, that one person betrayed him when he was at his lowest. Castiel feels sick but in a twisted way he understands. There was never anything more important to Dean than Sam. And it was never Dean’s choice or fault. 
And it’s a whole conversation they should have, or at least Dean should have with someone, and Cas wants to talk to Dean, to really get to speak with him,  but something stops him. 
“It’s okay”, he manages to say eventually, “You were stupid for the right reasons.”.

"I love you. I love all of you", Cas says, bleeding out and dying in that barn.
Cas, don't you dare die on me, not like that, not so sudden, not like... Just don't, it can't be happening, it's not how this ends, not before you know, not before you know how much you mean to me- to all of us, Cas just please, don't, I promise, I swear, I will be better, and I will find a good, no, I will find the best moment to finally say what you deserve to hear, but just. Don't die. God, please don't let him die-
The sound of Crowley breaking the spear in two brings Dean back to reality. Cas is alive and okay again. Dean lets out a deep breath. He still has time.
He feels like Desmond in that show he used to watch in the motel rooms years ago. He finally understands the relief he felt when the hieroglyphs turned into 0:01 once again.

"Cas, you just gave up entire army for one guy", Dean says, jokingly, but this is not a joke. Castiel doesn't know what to say again.
When Hannah gave him a choice, the words came easily.
"No", he said when he chose Dean, again. But now? He doesn't know what to say.
Yes. I chose you over an army of angels. I would always choose you over Heaven. 
But he knows, for some reason, that these words are tricky. They could potentially lead to another conversation. And he wasn't ready for it.

"What about all of this is real?!", Dean yells, angry, so angry, and he takes that anger out on the wrong person, again, and he knows it, and he hates it, but the words just come out of his mouth
(why the other words, good words never do?)
and he is even more angry at himself, at God, at his father, at everything, because his life? Was never his to begin with, it belonged to others and he had no say in anything. He just had to play the part.
So he takes it out on the only person who sees through that anger.
And Castiel takes it, as always.
"We are", Cas says bitterly as he leaves the room. Even though Castiel was an angel, he was far better with words than Dean is ever going to be. Dean wants to scream but he is speechless.

"And why, when something goes wrong, it always seems to be you", Dean says it and Castiel suspects that he regretted it instantly, because he knows him, but the words hurt like a bitch anyway. Dean feels dead inside (was he ever truly alive? what does it even mean?) and everything's wrong.
So he takes it out on Cas again. He hates it but he does it anyway.
The look on Castiel's face makes Dean want to go back to hell, because this guilt is worse than hell, hell was easy in a way, this? This is complicated and delicate.
"I think it's time for me to move on", Cas says slowly and rightfully so, and Dean wants to scream, to beg him to stay, to fall to his knees and beg, pray, for forgiveness, but he can't speak. The words are stuck, and he is stuck, and the world seems to have stopped turning. But it still does, and Cas is gone.

"I love you", Cas says again and Dean's brain can't respond. "Goodbye, Dean".
Those last words echo in Dean's mind for days, weeks, months. Years. He hears them when he is awake and he hears them in his dreams.
In his dreams he doesn't stay silent. In his dreams he pushes through whatever was holding him back, and he speaks. He finds his voice and he says, he finally says what he wanted to say since what feels like forever.
He says "I love you, too, and I am sorry. I am sorry for everything. But it can't- it won't end like this".
In his dreams he finally asks Cas to stay.
In his dreams he kisses him.
The Empty always takes Cas anyway.
These unspoken words are always with him, wherever he is. They are with him when he aimlessly drives the Impala through the States. They are with him when he finally finds Castiel in the Empty and drags him back to Earth, back to life.
As he holds on to the angel, he finally lets these unspoken words out. Everything he never said, I want you to stay, I want you, he whispers frantically as he kisses Castiel's face, Please never ever leave me again, he says as he presses his forehead to Castiel's. I will do better, he promises, as he holds Cas as close as he can, I will be all that you want and thought you couldn't have. And more, he promises. 
And he keeps that promise. 
And Cas is happy. They both are.

in your expert opinion what are some of the most destiel-heavy episodes of spn? i stopped watching around season 7 and have no interest in engaging w the plot of the show at all but i’m in the mood for some gay yearning ykwim
Hi anon! Thank you for reaching out to me about this, I’m, no-joke, very flattered. I’d seen a couple posts on this same question, very thorough and detailed lists on Destiel-centric episodes, but at the moment I cannot find any of them, that would’ve answered your request much faster. So, in advance, sorry, my reply is probably coming in extremely late, but I did write this from scratch, so yeah.
Even though storylines in SPN can be very shitty and hollow, I do feel that to get the full Destiel experience -that long-drawn yearning- one would have to watch the entirety of the show, even if Cas isn’t in the episode or if there’s no explicit mention of their relationship/bond because it gives you a better understanding of them as characters and of how their relationship affects the narrative.
Now, you mentioned you stopped around S7, which is completely understandable and justified given the Dick plot game was very weak and, in my opinion, annoying (so little Cas!). I’m going to start listing from S7 in case you want to refresh your SPN before jumping straight into unseen episodes. Also, since you mentioned no interest in the plot and are specifically craving those sweet crumbs of gay yearning, I’ll skip most one-sided / too subtle episodes and cut to the chase.

15x06 – Golden Time: Painful phone call which speaks volumes about the current state of their relationship at the time. Also, good to see where they’re standing and how they’re coping.

15x09 – The Trap: MASTERPIECE. Back to Purgatory. Can (and is) taken as Dean’s love confession (because it is). 
15x12 – Galaxy Brain: So married. Little domestic date, you can see LOVE written in their faces.

(Y/N) strolled around the corner of a book shelf, arms swinging with a book in one hand as she approached the till, where Aziraphale was waiting with a customer. She held out the book to him, a big smile on her face.
“(Y/N), that’s the wrong book dear.” Aziraphale awkwardly said.
“Oh!” the young woman gasped, looking at the cover. She was meant to find a novel about a dystopian future, with conflict and struggles of hierarchy. Looking at the cover, she realised she had picked up a romantic tale.“I am so sorry, I will go and find the other one-”
“No!” Aziraphale blurted out.“N-no, don’t worry. I’ll go find it.”
“OK, sorry again.”
Once he had finished with the customer, Aziraphale went to find (Y/N), who was stacking books on the shelves. She smiled at him as he approached her, and he copied, but it was clear to see that he was uneasy.
“I just want to talk about what happened earlier.” he started.
“I’m really sorry about that again. I didn’t mean to embarrass you.”
“It’s not that, I’m not concerned about embarrassment. I’m more worried about you.”
“Me?”
“You know this bookshop back to back. You’ve worked here since you started university. It was just a shock that you picked up the wrong book, and took so long to get it.”
“I wasn’t that long was I?”
“You took fifteen minutes.”
“I mean, people make mistakes.”
“Of course they do, nobody is perfect. But it’s so out of character for you. Are you feeling well?”
She nodded, returning back to her job.“Absolutely fine.”
“Because you know you can tell me.”
“I know.”
“If anything is wrong, I am always here-”
“I’ve got a date tonight.”
He hadn’t expected that answer.“A-a date?”
She nodded.“Yeah, uh, it’s with this guy from one of my lectures. We’ve been friends...well, sort of friends for the last year, but he asked me out the other day and obviously I’ve said yes. So I’m freaking out a little bit.”
Aziraphale was shocked by her quick rambling, stumbling over his own words as he processed everything.“O-oh, well, that is very exciting! Why are you worried?”
“Because I haven’t been on a date since...well you know.”
“Oh, of course. You are going though, aren’t you?”
She sighed.“I was-”
“You should! This is great news!”
“But what if I’m awkward? If I’ve forgotten what it’s like to date?”
“Tell you what,” he started to take the books out her her hands,“you take the rest of the day off. Go relax, get ready for tonight, and enjoy yourself!”
“Aziraphale, I really shouldn’t-”
“I won’t take no for an answer. You need to relax and calm down before tonight. I think you’re going to be surprised with how much fun you’ll have.”
“If you’re sure...I mean, I am a bit excited.”
Aziraphale grinned at the sight of his friend blushing.“Good! Keep in high spirits and you shall have a great evening.”
(Y/N) put on her coat, saying her goodbyes to Aziraphale as she slung her handbag over her shoulder before putting her earphones in. The angel kept the smile on his face until the door shut, then his true feelings were unleashed. Panic struck him, mumbling to himself as he stressed over his friend. He knew he needed help on this, instantly calling Crowley to the bookshop.
Crowley had been bored out of his mind that day, so when the phone rang, he answered far too quickly, having to put on a reserved attitude as he spoke. Hearing Aziraphale’s tone made him agree to come straight away, even though he didn’t know what the problem was. Bursting into the bookshop (thinking another Armageddon was approaching), he called out for the angel, who popped out from nowhere, his eyes wide.
“Oh thank God you’re here.” Aziraphale sighed in relief.
“Well, I wouldn’t be thanking him-”
“It’s (Y/N).”
Crowley didn’t care about his smooth persona anymore, not when it came to (Y/N).“What? What’s happened?”
“She’s got a date.”
Crowley stared at him, mouth open. After a few seconds, he spoke,“That’s what you called me here for?”
“Yes! How are you not worried?”
“Because it’s a normal thing for young adults to do?”
“But this is (Y/N)! You remember the last relationship?”
Crowley softened at that.“Oh, you have a point.”
(Y/N) had not been attending university for long when she first applied for the bookshop. She was just eighteen when she started, much quieter and shy back then, but Aziraphale decided to take her under his wing (no pun intended). He and Crowley had become friends with her, watching her grow as she studied hard, not without stressing herself out at times of course. However, they had also been there when the first boyfriend came onto the scene. (Y/N) had been so excited, infatuated with this boy. They had dated for a year and a half, it had been so lovely at the beginning. Even the angel and demon liked him; until he made the fatal mistake of breaking her heart.
That boyfriend had all but ripped her heart out of her chest, torn it to pieces in front of her face before stamping on it. After all the dates, the presents, the studying together, supporting each other through their studies, the cute pictures and talks about their future, he randomly decided to sleep with someone else. The man (Y/N) thought she could see a future with had never showed any signs of leaving her, or no longer having an interest. He flat out admitted it when she confronted him, suddenly expressing how he didn’t find her attractive anymore and that she had been a waste of time. It broke (Y/N), and although she wanted to believe that someone would come along and cherish her just as he did in the beginning, it was extremely hard to imagine such a thing after those harsh words.
“I know I shouldn’t judge others, especially since I don’t know the man...” Aziraphale said.
Crowley removed his glasses.“Well, how did she look when she told you?”
“Happy, she was nervous but giddy. She’s worried that she’ll embarrass herself, though I could see the excitement in her eyes.”
“Well that settles it then.”
“What?”
“We have to follow them.”
“How did that make you think of following them?”
“(Y/N) has mixed emotions, she may not think straight because she’s overwhelmed.”
“She’s a smart young lady, she’ll be able to tell if she likes him or not.”
“Still, we don’t know this guy. I think to be on the safe side, we should tag along.”
“A-a double date?”
“What? No! We need disguises, we need to follow after them.”
“So, stalk them?”
“Stop making it weird. Come on, let’s figure out what we’re wearing.”
(Y/N) couldn’t stop staring at her reflection. She had spent more time than needed on her hair and makeup, picking out her jewellery before putting on the outfit she decided on (which also took a while to pick out). Although she always presented herself well everyday, she hadn’t dressed up in a long time. It was almost refreshing to see herself like this, she felt beautiful. Smiling at herself, she was broken out of her trance as her phone buzzed. Quickly grabbing it, she saw her dates name pop up, stating they were on their way to the restaurant they chose to go to. It was now or never.
Crowley and Aziraphale waited down the road from (Y/N)′s student house, seeing her leave and head in the opposite direction. Crowley was more confident sneaking around, purposefully walking quickly so Aziraphale would keep up with him and not think about backing out of this. For disguises, they decided they needed to dress young, blend into the crowd; Aziraphale wore an oversized jumper with an equally long striped scarf, his usual bow tie still on, as well as jeans and converse. Crowley had on a black denim jacket with a black and white patterned silk shirt, black jeans with boots definitely meant for hiking, as well as blacked out circular glasses and a beanie. Aziraphale felt ridiculous, hating how people stared, but Crowley was too focused on the mission to notice.
They followed her to the restaurant, casually leaning against a building across the road as they watched the man and woman embrace. He kindly held the door open for her, gesturing for her to go ahead.
“He seems gentlemanly.” Aziraphale pointed out.
“No, this is their game you see. He wants her to think he’s a gentleman, when he’s the total opposite! I’ve seen it happen many times before. They’re all ‘Mr Nice Guy’ just so she’ll go home with him.”
“That’s a little extreme, don’t you think-”
“Come on!” Crowley grabbed Aziraphale’s wrist, dragging him across the street. 
(Y/N) thanked her date as he tucked in her chair for her. It wasn’t a high end restaurant, and it was only late afternoon, but this is how they wanted it to be. They were already friends, it would be awkward if they were properly dressed up in a posh place. He had already complimented her, making her blush, and they were able to slide into a conversation. It was like any other time they had been hanging out, except there was a romantic element to it all.
“There they are.” Aziraphale whispered to Crowley as they entered the building. 
Not waiting to be seated, Crowley guided the pair towards the couple, finding a table close enough that they could watch their every move without being spotted. Sitting down, Crowley shoved a menu into his friend’s hands, holding it in front of his head with his eyes peering over the edge.
“He tucked in her chair for her, that’s sweet of him.” Aziraphale smiled.
“Remember what I said.” Crowley frowned.
“Perhaps we’re being a tad dramatic. I was paranoid this morning, but seeing them together has calmed me.”
“I’m not sure. He could be pretending.”
The squabble was disturbed when (Y/N)’s laugh rang out, along with her date’s. Her friends turned to see her covering her mouth as she continued giggling, her eyes still on the man across from her.
“That doesn’t count.” Crowley quickly protested.
A waitress came over to their table, surprised by how quickly the men ordered their food and the lack of eye contact. What shocked her the most was when she tried to take the menus away, but they gripped onto them with their lives. It was the only way they could hide from (Y/N). She backed away, not too phased because when you work in this sort of service, you do get your weirdos. 
“Maybe we should just leave...” Aziraphale felt less stressed, he had a good feeling about this man. She looked much more calm, more natural with him than she did with her ex, and this was only the first date. 
“But we’ve ordered.” Crowley moaned.
“I feel like we’re imposing. I know we wanted to check on her, but (Y/N)’s an adult, she knows how to handle herself.”
“Let’s at least wait for our food-”
“But what if they spot us! We can take it to go.”
“It’ll be cold by the time we get back, and we’ve ordered drinks!”
(Y/N) tried to concentrate on her date’s words, she had been invested in his story until a couple on another table started bickering. It was just human nature to pry, and she had glanced a few times over at them. They were an extravagant pair, wearing clothes that made them stand out. It wasn’t a bad thing, people were allowed to express themselves.But there was something about them that made her keep staring. 
“Hey, I’m just going to quickly pop to the loo.” (Y/N) said, smiling at her date just as he did, before she stood up, heading towards the odd couple.
Aziraphale and Crowley were too caught up in their argument to notice that (Y/N) had left the table, and was headed right towards them. She suddenly appeared at the table, crouching down on the other side so her date couldn’t see her.
“What are you two doing?!” she harshly whispered.
They were shocked by her, flinching in their seats. Aziraphale sighed.“I knew this would happen!”
“Are you two following me?”
“It was Crowley’s idea!”
“You were the one who called me!”
“Enough you two!” (Y/N) quietly exclaimed.“Do you know how much you’re invading my privacy right now?”
Aziraphale had a calm tone to his voice.“We just wanted to make sure you’re alright. And how did you know it was us?”
“Have you seen your outfits? You stick out like a sore thumb.”
“I thought these were very on trend?” Crowley said.
“In 2013 maybe.”
“We’re sorry. We were only thinking of you, your safety, your happiness. And we were going to leave, but Crowley is complaining about the food-”
“It’s good food here!”
“As long as you two don’t interfere with my date, you can stay. Just don’t stare, or watch.”
“Are you enjoying yourself?” Aziraphale smiled.“He seems like a lovely gentleman.”
Crowley groaned.“Stop calling him that.”
(Y/N) relaxed a little.“He’s...he’s a sweetheart. I feel comfortable with him, happy too. I’m having a great time...was having a great time.”
Aziraphale placed a hand on her shoulder.“We promise we won’t do anything. Honestly, I’m quite hungry and parched now that I’m thinking of our order.”
(Y/N) pondered for a moment.“Fine. You’re right, the food here is pretty good, I can’t take that away from you. But next time you do a stake out, try to blend in, yeah?”

I would love for you to talk more indepth about the montage. To me it feels so off and weird. Almost like a parody? So many scenes in it are "funny" moments that just don't make sense in the context of an emotional overview of the road so far... (Like all the scenes where Dean is eating, Donna with donut dust on her face, Sam getting hit during the game show.) I don't know. Isn't the montage supposed to make me nostalgic, teary-eyed? This one definitely doesn't do it for me!
Here I am! Yes, I absolutely agree. The montage is Weird(TM). It’s kind of a tone rollercoaster. It’s very full of funny/silly moments, with some serious moments smacked in. And it definitely looks like... there’s something about it.

[Gif 1] It starts pretty much like I’d expect a Supernatural goodbye montage to start. The two brothers meeting for the first time in the pilot, a reminder of their childhood with John, their banter still from the pilot, a couple moments of them driving in the car in the first seasons, Dean saving Lucas in 1x03 which is the first Dean-heavy episode and also an extremely symbolic moment for Dean’s entire journey - just think at how Lucas as a mirror was still relevent during the “drowning” Michael possession arc. Everything feels normal so far. We’re starting from the beginning! Now--
[Gif 2] Interesting and weird choices start here. Them pretending to be high school teachers from After School Special 4x13 - actually a very iconic moment for the fandom, remember that post of Dean in shorts from that episode that you had to reblog when it came on your dash? (Actually I’m not sure if I ever reblogged it lol.) Dean celebrating getting young again from The Curious Case of Dean Winchester 5x07 (and Jensen showing off his agility). The two of them showing their FBI badges to Jesse Turner’s biological mother in 5x06. Dean mowing the lawn of Mary’s house in the Djinn dream and immediately after Jess and Sam kissing also in the Djinn dream, from What Is And What Should Never Be 2x20. Then Dean after killing the witch when he was under the memory loss spell, in Regarding Dean 12x11. Sam happy when they celebrate Christmas in A Very Supernatural Christmas 3x08. Them being “lucky” under the effect of the rabbit’s foot in Bad Day At Black Rock 3x03. Sam also happy in Baby 11x04.
Again the present, then the montage starts again with the water-related ghost from Red Sky At Morning 3x06, a Bela episode, and then Bela herself from her first episode, 3x03 again.
What do these moments have in common? Not all of them, but for many of them I’d say reality being manipulated. The Djinn dream, the rabbit foot, Dean’s aging, the Antichrist... and it’s not over yet. Also, them pretending to be teachers, agents etc - not “real”.
[Gif 3] The tone suddenly gets more serious and relevant to current events: Chuck in The Monster at the End of This Book 4x18 (eh). Death in Two Minutes to Midnight 5x21 (the first appearance of Death, while now we’ve had Billie’s last and a very short-lived new one), and then two major moments from Lazarus Rising - Dean emerging from the grave and finding the handprint on his shoulder. Crowley’s first episode, Abandon All Hope 5x10. Zachariah’s death in Point Of No Return 5x18. Anna from The Song Remains The Same 5x13, where she is the antagonist having been brainwashed successfully by heaven. Michael burning and Sam jumping in the cage with Michael in 5x22, then another moment from 4x01 (the brothers hugging after reuniting). A moment from The French Mistake 6x15 (reality fuckery again!). Sam in Frontierland 6x18.
[Gif 4] Reality fuckery continues with Becky marrying Sam in 7x08. Funnily enough, this is the peak of Becky’s obsessive behavior which she went to therapy for and grew away of - it definitely emphasizes how far Becky has come. Donna’s first appeance in 9x13. That iconic shot of Dean in Bloodlust 2x03 because he’s pretty. Charlie’s first appearance in 7x20 while she dances to Walking On Sunshine (relevant?), Kevin’s first appearance in 7x21 when he becomes a prophet (lots of firsts). Abaddon’s first appearance in As Time Goes By 8x12. Then there’s the first appearance of the bunker, in the next episode, a couple shots in fact. Then more 4x01, Ruby pretending to mistake Dean for the pizza man (eh). Then more present...
This section seems to be mostly “first appearances” - including Ruby’s s4 meatsuit, i.e. Genevieve’s first appearance.
[Gif 5] We suddenly jump to more recent events with Kelly and Jack in heaven in Byzanthium 4x08. Jack’s iconic hello from 4x16 Don’t Go In The Woods. Dean teaching Jack how to drive in 14x07 Unhuman Nature. But then we suddenly go from Jack things to something completely different on the surface: two consecutive moments from Changing Channels 5x08, including the iconic Nutcracker scene, and Sully from Just My Imagination. We are actually back to the previous theme: reality fuckery. Gabriel’s episode was about placing them in “television shows”, Sully, while real, is literally a child’s “imaginary friend”. And then... a moment from the cartoon part of Scoobynatural! It doesn’t get more reality fuckery than that. Oh, wait! Charlie and Dorothy going to Oz in 9x04. That’s a pretty strong contender. Dean being hit in the face by a fairy in 6x09 - also about a realm Dean briefly went to. And, in case we felt like we hadn’t gotten enough 4x01 yet, Pamela’s first appearance (her last, albeit a hallucination, was about the whole “How come you only want what you can't have?” thing).
[Gif 6] We continue again with a mixture of firsts and weird things. Ellen’s first appearance in 2x02, Dean and Cas in 4x18 (we saw Chuck from that episode earlier), Jody’s first appearance in 5x15 Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. Rufus in 6x04 Weekend At Bobby’s (not his first but a good episode...), Garth in 9x12 Sharp Teeth (not his first but the first in which he is a werewolf and is married... relevant to recent lamp events??), Missouri in 1x09 (her first appearance).
Then Gabriel from 13x21 Beat The Devil (an episode where he plays a trick on Lucifer) and Rowena from the same scene (in fact a scene where they’re flirting).  Then Eileen coming back to life in 15x06 and smiling at Sam. Jo flirting with Dean in 2x02 - her first appearance, again. Funnily enough, she had been introduced as a love interest, but ended up being repurposed as a sisterly figure. Tempted to say it’s relevant in an ironic way. Mary in 14x11 Damaged Goods, when Dean has a goodbye mother-son moment with her. Amara in 11x09 Oh Brother Where Art Thou when she was looking for her brother. Then Lucifer in two different vessels (12x07 Rock Never Dies and 12x21, when Lucifer regains control over the vessel).
Then Metatron doing the find a wife make babies speech to Cas in 8x23! Relevant??? Dun dun dun. Then Ketch for some reason (the first episode where we see his face, 12x08 LOTUS).
[Gif 7] Then Jo/Anael in 13x13, another first appearance. (I cropped these horribly I should have cut them when the present happens lol.)
Sandwiched between two shots from the present, Dean Sam Mary and John having dinner together in 14x13 Lebanon.
Then we start again with Dean riding Larry in 12x11, Dean and Cas dressed as cowboys in 13x06 (mini pattern here...), Asmodeus with the archangel blade in 13x13 (insert meta about Asmodeus in Christian lore here), and the really intriguing “Intermission” shot from the play in 10x05.
[Gif 8] To continue a certain pattern we might be tempted to see, Dean eating piecake from 14x06 Optimism (an episode about a distorted version of romantic love), then Dean eating noodles from 10x13 Halt & Catch Fire (the ghost is a husband that passes on thanks to his wife). Dean after his dentistry session with Garth in 15x10. Meg from 6x10 Caged Heat (the episode with the pizza man porn). Dean and Sam investigating in 4x12 Criss Angel Is a Douchebag (an episode about growing old poorly). Crowley in 10x16 Paint It Black (that episode). Dean playing that game in 14x17 Game Night (the episode Cas calls for God, and when Mary dies - the one playing the game was God...). Sam and Dean getting out of the car in 13x05 when they visit the traumatized kid (peak mourning Dean episode...). Then we go into reality fuckery territory again with 14x15 Peace of Mind, Sam under the psychic’s control and Cas disgruntled about it.

Belphegor - Jack’s dark mirror - in 15x03 The Rupture, the break-up episode. Donna’s first episode again, this time Dean and she eating donuts. Dean, Sam and Mary hugging in 12x22 after the confrontation in Mary’s head. Kaia in 13x09 The Bad Place, when Jack uses her to find the way to where Mary is (Mary pattern?). Claire&co rescuing Jody and Donna in 13x10 Wayward Sisters. Dean in 1944 dresses as a sailor in 11x14 The Vessel. Baby nyooming in 15x11 The Gamblers...
Aaand more Changing Channels, the genital herpes ad. It’s almost like reality fuckery is a theme. Followed by Sam drinking the anti-cold concoction at Garth’s in 15x10 and the two of them outside the monster fighting pit in the same episode. Then Cas, Dean, Sam and Jack on a video call with Ketch in 14x09 The Spear when they talk about the egg to trap Michael.
[Gif 10] We stay in the same episode with the four of them heading to Michael. Then the four of them celebrating Jack’s return to life (after Cas’ deal with the Empty). More present, and then the iconic “we’ve got work to do” [trunk closes] moment from the pilot.
So: some of these moments seem like genuine moments you’ll want to put in a montage, but there’s a weird predominance of characters smiling and looking happy or goofy. It’s kind of... not exactly representative of the show as a whole, you know? There are moments that fit as, you know, iconic steps in the story, but surprisingly few, and many moments you’d expect to be in a “final” montage are blatantly not there. Several moments with, let’s put it like this, suspicious meta connotations. Moments that, well, we don’t know what happens in the finale yet, but smell like they might be relevant to future developments. (Metatron’s speech to newly human Cas anyone?)
What really strikes me is the amount of moments connected to reality being manipulated or distorted in some way. Lots of Changing Channels, fantasy elements of various kinds (the Djinn dream, Scoobynatural, Oz, the imaginary friend Becky’s wedding to Sam, the fairy, ...), them acquiring luck (s3) or losing it (s15), and so on. It’s almost like the sequence is telling us something...

Hi my beautiful friends, I will talk in this meta about the episode in which Case confessed his love. Did he? Or didn't he? Heheh let's see.
Dean Jealous and his contra-macho cool friend reaction
Oh yes, I'm gonna talk about that scene. I saw so many memes because Dean's dimples of discontent were loud. So get this...

Dean's face here can't be taken by other thing than JEALOUSY, he is not amused with that girl throwing heart eyes to Cas. And he shows his dimples of discontent. Not amused at all. So, he post-reaction to this, with his mom on the table and that tough hunter too, he does what society waits for a friend to do when a girl is showing signs of flirtation to one of his friends...
But he overreacts and says a couple of silly things. One of them, Sam won't let go easily.

This is the lie, because Dean doesn't want to teach Cas to conquer women. But he has to pretend he does. Because he wants to show the supportive friend he is. 'We've been looking for teachable moments' like 'We?' Sam and him? Sammy doesn't look as if he was waiting for this moment, besides, he knows what Dean feels for Cas, so... Dean is almost reaching the ridiculous line in here. Trying so hard to sound one thing, he is not.
Look at this...
SAM: The internet here sucks. I downloaded all the bunker’s files to a new archive, but we’re not getting any signal, so I’m j–
DEAN: [makes snoring noises and pretends to sleep] Nobody cares. Cas, here’s the thing you need to know about waitresses, okay? They get hit on all day long, so you gotta bring your A game. But, upside? [clicks tongue] They always smell like food.
WALLY: [nodding along with Dean, then pointing at him] They always smell like food.
First: Sam immediately changed the subject dragging them to the case and a difficulty he is having to get more info, and Dean! Dean just cut him off! He just can't let a waitress hitting on Cas' alone! Because is VERY IMPORTANT to him, to pretend he is helping him, because he is the waitress experienced friend, and try to low Castiel's expections into venture to do that!
Because... He says 'They always smell like food!" As if that were something sexy!
And Wally is just affirming that premise, and then Sam... Because he was interrupted by his brother's fake show, and because he knows what's the behind the scenes, he engages revengeful ...
SAM: Is that really an upside? They smell like food?
MARY: Okay– okay...
DEAN: Right? It’s great.
SAM: Why would you want them to smell like food?
Dean can't lie to Sam, because Sam knows the truth, he knows Dean is trying to kill every interest Castiel could ever have in hook up with any waitress in the world. Because he is jealous! And I believe Mary noticed that too, and just scolded their boys. Hehehe.

Okay, leaving to a side that his face is out of control, because he really thinks Cas is devastating handsome, he keeps with the cool friend that helps his friend, and the only one believing that story in that table is Wally, because he didn't live the Destiel drama. Dean is pretending like a good, because Wally is there. But Sam know, Mary knows, and even Cas knows.

Dean is like 'I helped you, buddy, did you like that? I'm a cool friend.' and Cas is like 'Do you really want me to date this female, Dean?' just because the poor guy put so many effort on that. Geez. Dean is a mess... Heheheh.
I Love You
I will try to focus the meta in the 'I love you' scene, because before that, we have a very distressed Dean Winchester trying to save his angel. Dean is nervous, and in denying. Because his head can't process the fact of loosing Castiel for ever. He can't handle that lost, that's why he denies it.
Now, let's go to the famous scene. Did Cas said I Love You to Dean?

If you rewatch the scene, previous to this confession, Castiel is looking at Dean straight in the eyes, then he drops his gaze and says these words, with a hint of shame.
But Dean's reaction can only been explained as someone who's hearing his best friend saying goodbye and giving up. And also, because in english language, this I LOVE YOU, could be sayed to a singular person of more than one. So, Dean thinks this I Love You was for them (Dean, Sam and Mary) that's why that face, is a face that says : ' Come one man, don't say it, you won't die, this is not the goodbye.'
I know a lot of people thinks Dean's reaction is because he wasn't prepared to receive a love confession, but I don't really think that. He is not prepared to say it. And in this take, he thinks this goodbye confession if for all the Winchesters in that room. Why do I think this? Because his reaction is very different when he sees Cas saying this to Sam and Mary.

Cas averts his eyes to Sam and Mary and Dean's face is of realization here.
He realizes the first I LOVE YOU was for him.
Why would Cas make that difference? Because the meaning are different. Even when he previously confess they are his family, he chooses to look at Dean first a confess one exclusive I love you for him.
Is platonic? Is romantic?
I truly believe is romantic, because there was shame in Cas' face, and he dropped his eyes before saying it. And I think Dean knew this deep inside.
But it could be taken otherwise, that's why it stays like a grey zone between them.
When Crowley comes and saves Castiel, Dean's face of relief is priceless, and there's this little finger touch Cas made over Dean's hand before left his hand go. They were close to be separated, what they don't know is, this is a foreshadow of Castiel's real death at the endo of the season, but also, Dean saying: "Let's go home" is foreshadowing too his own words in episode 13x06, when Castiel comes back to him.
To Conclude:
Episode 12x12 has Jealous!Dean, inside a hilarious scene, but it also has a sad foreshadow of Castiel's death.
Cas said confessed his love for the Winchesters as a family, but it was a special and exclusive confession he made to Dean, because the hint of shame and the dropped gaze, it meant more than just a platonic confession.
Dean's reaction is different to the second confession, because he realizes the first one was just for him.
