The best way to view the Bible when you are reading it, is to realize you are having a conversation. The fact that He is speaking to you through those words is as real as if He were sitting beside you and the words were coming out of His mouth instead of from the pages.

However we view or handle - or possibly dismiss - The Word of God, we have to keep in mind Who we are viewing and handling and dismissing. John chapter one explains that God and His Word are one and the same. And He says He never changes. And He never has. We are warned not to add to it, not to take away from it, not to change it, not to neglect it - we are commanded to heed it, to study it, to abide in it… and we are encouraged to love it, and tremble at it.

“If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting” 2ndTimothy 1:10

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7

“And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.”1stCorinthians 2:13

Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

PUTTING ON LOVE - PRAYING THE SCRIPTURES

I love You, God, because You first loved me. (1 John 4:19)

You sent Your only begotten Son, Jesus, to this earth out of Your love for me and for others. I have believed on Him and now, I will not perish - I have everlasting life. You did not send Jesus to condemn me, but to save me, and I thank You for that! (John 3:16,17)

God, if You loved me that much, I should give love to others. (1 John 4:11)

So, I will love others. It's a sign that I've been born of You, because You are love. But if I fail to love others, I fail to love You. Help me to always love! (1 John 4:7,8)

I put on love each day, as if it's a coat, because I know that You consider it the highest of all virtues - Your love binds every other good virtue together and makes them one. (Colossians 3:14)

Love is the most important sacrifice to another person that I can make. I will love God with all my heart, soul, mind and all my strength, Lord, and I will love my neghbor as myself. (Mark 12:33)

Help me to love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me. I do this in obedience to You, my Father in Heaven. (Matthew 5:44)

I love others because You have loved me, and people will know that I'm a disciple of Yours because of the love that I show. (John 13:34-35)

Circumcise my heart, God. Consecrate me and help me to love You with all my heart and soul so that I may truly live well! (Deuteronomy 30:6)

Father, help me to remain in Your love just like Jesus. He always obeyed Your commands and always remained in Your love. (John 15:10)

God, I know the Your love matters the most - though I speak many words, including the tongues of angels, if I don't love others, my words are nothing but a lot of noise! Help me to see Your love for what it is - patient and kind, never envious, boastful, proud, rude, self-seeking, or easily angered. You love stops me from keeping a record of wrongs or delighting in what is evil. Your love helps me to rejoice in truth and always protect, trust, hope, and persevere! (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

Whatever I do, Lord, help me to do it in love! (1 Corinthians 16:14)

The covenant I have with You, God, is not because of something physical, like circumcision. My covenant was made through Jesus Christ - and my faith works by love! (Galatians 5:6)

I was called by God to be free! But, I don't use my freedom as an excuse to live in sin and do only what I want. Instead, I serve others in the way of love. (Galatians 5:13)

I am being rooted and established in love. I'm gaining the power to grasp the amazing measurements of Your love. I realize that it surpasses all knowledge, but in "seeking" to find its measurements, I am being filled with the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

I'm a volunteer prisoner of You and I will live a life worthy of Your calling. In humility, gentleness, and patience, I will bear what others do in love. I will strive to always keep the unity of Your Spirit and keep the peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3)

I speak the truth in love and it causes me to grow up in all things - I'm a part of the body of Christ and we serve under the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ! We work together in love and this unites the whole body of Christ! (Ephesians 4:15,16)

Like a child imitates those he admires, I imitate You Jesus, and live a life of love! Because You loved me and gave Yourself for me as a good-smelling offering to God, I will give myself to others, as an offering to You. (Ephesians 5:1)

I will speak peace, love, and faith over all my brothers and sisters today! (Ephesians 6:23)

Thank You for correcting my heart when I do wrong. I know that You discipline those You love. (Hebrews 12:6)

I will live in harmony with others and be sympathetic, compassionate, and humble. (1 Peter 3:8)

Above it all, I will love others deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8)

I have known and believed in the love that You have for me. You are Love and I make my life in You. Your great love is being perfected in me day-to-day. I will be able to have boldness in the day of judgment because I have a life of love! 1 John 4:16,17)

I won't fear! Your love in me casts fear out! I'm being made perfect in Your love day by day! (1 John 4:18)

Geometry today was a pain and a half! I am almost positive the answer key was wrong for two sets of questions because I checked and rechecked my work and followed the examples exactly on the third check, and my answers always stayed the same. Sometimes this will happen as the textbooks might go through an edit but then the link to the answer key is an old link instead of the updated one. Besides, when I did the same type of questions on KA and in the second set on my assignment, doing it the same way I did in the first set, they were correct.

Still, persistence was getting aggravated. I should trust myself more when I know I am right instead of worrying that I did something wrong and have no realization of what that wrong could be because everything appears exactly how it should after multiple times solving the problem in different ways using the same formula.

Either way, I am glad to be done with school work for the day. I'm finishing up dinner now and then I can enjoy ballet tonight. Yes, it's disciplined and intense, but it's my safe space and where I find joy in my day. It's my study break.

Line Upon Line Lesson 027: Blessing and Deceit

Genesis 27:41 - So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Why was Esau so intent on obtaining Isaac’s blessing? Why did his mother Rebekah encourage him to obtain it using deceitful means? What was so significant about this blessing that Esau was seeking to kill Jacob for stealing from him?

Let’s read together Genesis 25:24-28.

Isaac and Rebekah had fraternal twins - Esau and Jacob. Isaac favored Esau and Rebekah favored Jacob as the two grew up. Isaac and Rebekah should have loved their children equally. Their favoritism played a role into the eventual strife between Esau and Jacob.

Let’s read together Genesis 17:18-21; Genesis 21:8-14; Numbers 3:12-13; and Deuteronomy 21:15-17.

God established a divine birthright after making a covenant with Abraham. Isaac was designated the son of promise, even though Ishmael was technically Abraham’s firstborn son.

The firstborn son was given a double portion of his father’s inheritance. The firstborn also was given the responsibility of the priesthood for the family.

Let’s read together Genesis 25:23, 29-34; Genesis 26:34-35; Galatians 5:16-21; and Hebrews 12:15-17.

If the birthright was so important, why did Esau sell it to Jacob for a pot of stew? Esau lived for the here and now. It seems he would rather gratify his flesh immediately then dwell upon spiritual things.

Esau would not die if he skipped a meal. Yet he saw his birthright as less valuable than a bowl of stew.

Esau’s lack of spirituality is further evident when you examine who he chose to marry. Esau married two Hittite women, causing grief to his parents.

Why did Jacob take advantage of Esau in this situation? Rebekah remembered the prophecy God gave her before her children were born. She was intent on making sure Jacob obtained that birthright by any means necessary. She must have influenced Jacob to desire Esau’s birthright.

Let’s read together Obadiah 1:10-11 and 1 John 3:15.

Esau was only interested in the temporal benefits of Isaac’s blessing. This is why he wanted to kill his brother. The priesthood had no value for him.

Let read together Psalm 27:14; Psalm 37:34; and Isaiah 41:30.

Jacob’s deceitful actions had consequences. He had to run away from home to flee his brother’s wrath. Little did he know, Jacob would never see his mother again. Jacob should have waited on God instead of taking matters into his own hands.

May we learn from the mistakes of Esau and Jacob.

Semi-explanation below the cut

Feel free to ignore this one, if you care not for context, but let me see if I can explain this because I am not completely pleased with the order *but* it’s a lot like Gus’ in that it isn’t necessarily always fully lyrically applicable, but rather tells the expanse of a life lived.

The opening few songs are mostly free of lyrics - Deuteronomy was slow to talk when he was a kitten. He spent a good majority of his young kittenhood non-verbal and late to talk compared to his fellows, but he was still blossoming incredibly quickly developmentally, particularly in mental and telepathic capacity. He started understanding things that were odd for kittens to understand (and his second mother indicated that there was...a light behind his eyes that was difficult to place that signified a wisdom far beyond his years). The first few songs lack lyrics (or have very few) to illustrate this tentative step into a life that is celebrated (being the heir), and how he is valued but comes into himself slowly.

“I’ve Been This Way Before” is when Deuteronomy finally starts to speak - and when he begins, he skips right over his babble and the present. He speaks about pasts he knows - so many of them - in great detail, remembering places he’s never been and cats he’s never met. He goes from being non-verbal to talking *non-stop*, often cryptically and with little reason. At this point he speaks *beyond* his own past lives; he speaks about the lives of other cats as well. And it’s at that point where it’s realized that Deuteronomy’s life isn’t going to be an easy one - he won’t just be carrying on his own life; he’ll be carrying on the lives of hundreds - thousands - of others. Not only is he meant to lead the Tribe (and after the death or disappearance of his later siblings, the *only* one left to lead), he’s meant to keep their memories as well (an ill advised combo).

Though a relatively wise, empathetic-to-a-fault, and even tempered child, and willing to attended his training dutifully, like most young cats, Deuteronomy doesn’t take all too kindly to the promise of responsibility at first - as he entered his maturation years, he began to act out. Along with his foster brother, Gus, he settled into his “devil may care,” “sowing his wild oats” era, not quite wanting to dwell on how heavy his life was about to become, flitting from cat to cat (that’s where the “buried 99 wives” rumour comes from - there are plenty of notches in the old tom’s belt and plenty of other kittens, much as most cats lives are wont to be), experience to experience, theoretically place to place (he never leaves entirely), longing to drift off and explore the world before inevitably being tied down to his responsibilities (knowing still that he did need to return to them and never thinking he never wanted to - he always did want to). They have their fun (to a just about alarming level), but those whispers and visions he has just don’t...stop. He can ignore them all he likes, but they just get louder and clearer and begin to teach him things that he couldn’t quite grasp before; things you cannot really *be* taught. His venturing outside of the Junkyard shows him the extent of things he never experienced. So, though he longs for a continued adolescence free of the burden of his gifts and responsibility, he quickly realizes that he cannot have one. He has too many cats depending on him - there are too many wrongs in the world that he can’t run from. His father is old - Maladeen has passed on - he is the only one left. So, though it’s not entirely what he wants, he returns to his family fully, hangs up his belt, and takes up his mantle.

For the first little while, things look up for Deuteronomy. He reunites with a queen from his past, meets another, they fall in love, they build their life together in spite of knowing that, ultimately, it will never be an easy one (”Soave sia il vento” is a cry for the sea to be calm; much like a cry for life to be easy - though Mya, and Ginny - brain children of the always brilliant @theimpossiblescheme - know it might not be and Dee *knows* for certain it won’t be). Still, they are happy; they have their sons, Deuteronomy thinks on his mothers and passes their teachings on to them, and it seems perhaps he’s got a grasp on everything at last.

But, as always, nothing good lasts for too long. Deuteronomy starts disassociating far more frequently - some nights it’s hard for him to recognize himself; understand where he begins and ends. He struggles to keep from turning inwards - as his father had as he struggled with his own underdeveloped psychic abilities - and it’s just as difficult for other cats to recognize him in tandem. It’s all just...too much. Too, too much. He feels like an exposed nerve all the time; everything hurts. Everyone’s feelings burn in his throat; all of their pain becomes his, and he just shoulders more and more with seemingly no end and it’s overwhelming.His cup runs over. He loves them too much - he cares *too much*. The only way he can quiet it down it to distance himself - try to be that unshakeable calm that his training demanded of him. It works. Kinda. The rest of the Junkyard notes this change.

Things beyond his control start happening - defects and illnesses and power struggles and threats; and others within his control start slipping through as a result. He tries to hold onto everything but he’s only one cat. He loses his eldest son to the lure of powers beyond his understanding, Mya to her sympathetic heart, then Ginny to the Heaviside- almost in succession. At this point, Deuteronomy is at a loss; the pain of others mixes with his own - it doesn’t stop. It gets so bad, that it begins to run over through the cracks in his consciousness he is barely able to patch; being around Deuteronomy can just as easily be uncomfortable and emotionally painful as not. It’s a hard time for everyone.

But one evening, at the pique of what seems like a never ending well of suffering, he sees something (whether it be a vision from the Everlasting Cat or her servants, he’s never been certain). He tells no one of what he sees (he takes that to his grave), but whatever it was, like a switch, it gives Deuteronomy this sudden, quiet feeling of...calm. It all falls into place; he is no longer struggling against his gift, he is working with it; he *understands* it, at long last. And with this new found sense of purpose, in spite of his loss, in spite of his grief, he continues on.

Deuteronomy ages, becomes wiser, shares his wisdom with his family. Cats leave - cats come back - he gains a whole gaggle of in laws and grandkittens and grand nieces and nephews. He teaches his family the importance of unconditional love; the act of forgiveness, both on oneself and towards others. Mya eventually returns to him; life has finally settled. But eventually things must come to an end; the great immortal - who was thought perhaps never to die - is a mere mortal after all. Deuteronomy’s final Ball is an entirely bittersweet affair and filled with lessons overlapping one another, the old cat hoping he’s passed everything he needed to onto his family. “The Prayer” is illustrative of a final duet with his dear Sillabub, who will take the mantle after him and has the honour of sending him up, passing on the final message he imparts his cats with.

And he is sent off in the same way he was brought into the world - with a dramatic choir swell and then silence.
