#Gifted Mirabel AU

I know Mirabel doesn't really need a gift, and it's commonly accepted that her real gift is to be the next keeper of the magic...
But I love the idea of her having a sewing based gift. I first saw the idea in this post: https://thesoffgengar.tumblr.com/tagged/gifted%20mirabel%20au
And I want to add my own flair to it. Like, Mirabel can endow each thing she makes with one special ability. This Ruana can keep you dry in a surprise rainstorm, that purse never gets holes in it, etc. She makes a whole legion of baby clothes that never get stained and toys that never get lost. Each item gets only one special attribute and there's a whole town full of people, so Mirabel is kept very busy.
Because she's so attentive to everyone's needs and desires, she's still the first person to discover the cracks in Casita. Her attempts to shove scraps in the cracks or paste fabric over them fail, leaving shredded cloth in its wake. She realizes quickly that this is something her gift can't mend. Cue hero's journey.
I think there'd be some additional character beats in this AU. Mirabel's similar to Luisa in that she spends to much time making things for other people, the things she wants to make for herself or for fun fall to the wayside. Like Julieta, she's a very behind-the-scenes worker that's constantly kept busy. She's finally starting to admit to herself that she feels overworked when the movie starts off and it helps her empathize with Luisa even more.
Her relationship with Abuela is still strained and distant. Abuela tends to overwork her for the sake of helping people and the long hours she spends in her room leave little time for socializing. Brings new meaning to the whole "I can't take another night up in my room" part of Waiting on a Miracle. For this Mirabel, she needs a miracle to meet her deadline.
Ok, that was a joke.
Abuela would also probably have really high standards of quality for what Mirabel makes. She'd want them to be perfect and pristine. Mirabel doesn't realize it at the time, but she and Isabela have this in common. That would be a nice plot point during their scene together.
Speaking of, the sisters' relationship would be similar to canon, but a bit toned down. They're still distant, pulled apart by their respective roles, but hey, they can go a few minutes without snipping at each other. Isabela might envy Mirabel not having to be in the spotlight all the time, but she also appreciates the things Mirabel makes for her. By contrast, Mirabel might still roll her eyes at Senorita Perfecta, but there's less of a divide between them. The tension's still there, there's just a lot less back and forth. Maybe Mirabel picks up on the fact that Abuela seems to have more suggestions for Isabela's dresses than Isabela herself.
When Casita's being rebuilt, she gets time to sew for the fun of it and makes herself a new dress, this one with butterflies embroidered on it. Her family even makes her a new project bag with symbols of each of them embroidered on it. It's a way of thanking her for stitching the family back together and for making so many nice things for everyone else all this time.
At the end of the movie her gift has returned, but the workload is definitely cut back. Abuela realizes she's been pushing Mirabel too hard and limits the amount of things people can ask of her. She's able to rediscover the fun of sewing and her creativity grows with the renewal of the magic. Abuela even comes to sit with her while she works and catch up.
Let me know what you think and what ideas you have for this AU!

Au where Mirabel Gets a gift that seems like a mix between Bruno and Dolores. When she gets a room it's just a normal room but her door has a solemn expression like Bruno and Dolores's.
What's the gift you may ask? At points in her life she hears voices in her head giving her an instruction. Like let's say the night of her ceremony she hears a voice telling her to tell Alma to get down. As soon as Alma gets down a rogue firework that some little kid set off slams into the wall right where her head would have been. If she hadn't moved she would have died. Mirabel gets warning instructions. Her gift is called Cause and effect. She's told the cause of something which she changes so that the effect does good.
Sometimes a person will ignore Mirabel and something terrible happens. But unlike Bruno, Mirabel doesn't know what will happen when someone doesn't listen to her , which makes ignoring her all the more dangerous.

So... I've got this idea a few months ago...
What if after the argument, instead of dying, the magic turns Madrigals' gifts into curses in order to save itself...
CW: traumas, body modifications
Isabela: The plants are growing inside of her body, replacing her flesh. Causing severe bleeding. And attempts to remove plants only making it worse. She still tries tho and gets a lot of scars from removed vines. Not like it's matter, they will be replaced with plants anyway.
Dolores: The vibration from sounds starts to affect her body. It works like electricity. Quiet sounds are painful. But loud... Loud sound can cause heart failure. She just stays in her room the entire time, isolated, so she won't die.
Luisa: Her body slowly turns into a stone statue, cell by cell. Her mobility is also dissapearing since her joints being a fused pieces of stone. No need to tell that it's extremely painful. The fact that she can see how the difficulty of the simple movements grows only makes her more terrified.
Camilo: He shapeshifts uncontrollably. His curse usually combines the details from different people, making it even worse. For example, he might have Luisa's arms with Antonio's body and legs and Mirabel's head. Everything in its original size. Or somebody's leg instead of head... There's endless possibilities.
Antonio isn't affected. He's five and he only got his gift. It would be too cruel even for the curse. So he just loses his new ability, without any effect. The other Madrigals are keeping their gifts, but control over them is awful.
Alma, Mirabel, Felix and Agústin aren't cursed as well, since they didn't have gifts to begin with. But the whole situation can be viewed as the punishment for Alma.
And I'm not sure about the triplets. I think that Julieta might get back all the injuries she ever healed and Pepa's emotions being affected be the weather. But I don't want it to be too deathly (there's no point in curse if they die instantly) or predictable (that's why Dolores'/Luisa's curses aren't based on hearing/strength) And I have no idea about Bruno. You're welcome to give me ideas about their curses

Indulge my “Senoritas Perfectas” bullshit 🌸✨
Takes place immediately following Mirabel’s Ceremony
Tumblr media
It was pure happenstance that Isabela and Mirabel arrived to breakfast together. They’d both woken early- Isabela from habit and Mirabel because she wanted to keep practicing with her Gift- and they walked into the dining room together. Mirabel trailed right behind Isabela, little sparkles dancing around her fingertips.
Abuela smiled softly, her eyes shining with pride.
“There’s my perfect girls,” she said. She rose from her seat to hug them both, kissing Isabela on the cheek and gently stroking Mirabel’s hair.
Isabela paused. Perfect. My perfect girls.
It was true, Mirabel’s Gift was perfect. Everyone had gone wild when she touched her door and light spilled from her. She’d been bombarded with requests the whole night; the villagers and family alike were eager to see what light powers could create.
Abuela had looked especially fond when Isabela made flower petals rain down on Mirabel as she danced.
Perfect. Of course it was perfect. How could it be any less?
But what if…?
Isabela kept her smile in place as she and Mirabel took their seats. Abuela ushered Mirabel into the seat next to Isabela. That was new. Normally there was no fuss on who sat where; the only rule (albeit unspoken) was that Abuela always sat at the head of the table.
Isabela listened as Mirabel happily rambled to Abuela, telling her about the tiny rainbow she’d made that morning and how she promised she’d made one of the lights look like a butterfly. So eager to please. So happy and sweet.
What if Mirabel couldn’t keep it up? What if her smile slipped? What if people got bored of her Gift?
Her heart was pounding but Isa kept her hands clasped together and her posture straight (Abuela said it made her look so grown up), smiling all the while.
Her growing suspicions were confirmed after breakfast. As everyone separated to go about their business, Abuela took Isabela aside.
“Isa, mi vida,” she said. “After school, will you let Mirabel join you for your chores?” Her smile was indulgent, so happy and proud. Isabela would do anything to keep that smile.
Besides, Mirabel tailing her wouldn’t exactly be hard work. At most, she’d just insistently ask questions, like usual.
“Sí, Abuela,” she said.
“Gracias, amor,” Abuela said. She squeezed Isabela’s hand. “I think you are the best suited to help her.”
“Help her, Abuela?”
“With her Gift. Flowers and light- it couldn’t be more perfect.”
There was that word again. One little word with so much weight.
Isabela needed to be perfect. Everyone in the family did, really; they were the amazing Madrigals, so blessed, so helpful and strong. But she was the eldest, the shining example to her sisters, her cousins, to everyone in her age group.
Senorita Perfecta Isabela. Sweet, angelic, perfect Isabela. The flower princess.
And now Mirabel. The little shining star. Warm, loving, happy Mirabel.
Isabela didn’t want to see her sister’s smile disappear.
Of course she’d help her. What else could she do?

Gifted AU!
I have a new AU. The idea came to me in the middle of failing to go to sleep, so I quickly noted it down here.
Everything happens following canon until the whole doorknob bit in All of You, where the miracle comes back. However, every Madrigal gets a gift. The others still get back their gifts, but Alma, Agustín, Félix and Mirabel also have their own.
Not as trauma heavy as some of my other AUs, but there is still plenty of angst in the process of everyone adapting. (Mirabel’s health is basically going to be thrown off a cliff because you can imagine the fucking loop of going from ignored outcast to gifted favourite). And we’re still working through the issues at the end of the film obviously.
And then there’s Dolores and Mariano, newly dating and pondering over what gift he would get when he marries her because 🥰.
I might do some room/outfit designs if people are interested.

Encanto AU where instead of being insecure about being the only Madrigal kid without a gift, Mirabel was happy and confident because she never wanted one to begin with.
Imagine little Mirabel as her door fades away, but instead of being upset she’s relieved at not having a door. She noticed how her sisters have been having more and more pressure put on them by Abuela.
Imagine the next day as everyone else is walking on eggshells around her and are confused to see her happily greet them. Only to be surprised by Mirabel being nonchalant about her failed ceremony and shocked when she says she doesn’t care.
Imagine Mirabel openly stating many times that she doesn’t have a gift and not caring about the whispers that follow her because of it. Instead she ignores them and goes about her day.
Imagine the rest of the family thinking that she’s putting on a brave face to hide her pain and Mirabel rightfully pointing out that their gifts cause them as much pain as they do pleasure.
Imagine her not being fazed by señor Osvaldo when he give Mirabel "The Not Specials' Special".
I’m ending this right here because this is as far as I got but if anyone wants to add anything, go ahead.

Mirabel's Super Secret Adventure
Movie AU
Chapter Preview: Even folded, the ladder was a bit awkward to fit through the door so she shimmied through sideways, watching the top of the ladder as she carefully eased it under the doorway.
“Uh, what are you doing?”
Prologue Prev Next Masterlist
2. Bridges and Ladders
After seeing the giant hole in the ground behind the walls, Mirabel had sort of assumed the cracks were structural, despite what she’d overheard Tío Bruno say. But now that she had watched a crack appear, only for it to disappear again, she couldn’t deny there was something else going on.
Once the party was over and everybody was in bed, Mirabel snuck down to the back garden. She found a folding ladder in the garden shed and carefully carried the bulky thing into the house through the kitchen door.
Even folded, the ladder was a bit awkward to fit through the door so she shimmied through sideways, watching the top of the ladder as she carefully eased it under the doorway.
“Uh, what are you doing?”
Mirabel almost screamed, and had to fumble to keep the ladder from falling to the floor. Once it was safely hugged to her chest she turned to stare at Camilo, who had apparently been in the process of stealing some of the leftovers from the party.
“What do you mean?” Mirabel asked, as casually as she could.
Camilo raised an eyebrow and looked pointedly at the ladder. She also looked at the ladder, pressing her lips together, then met his eyes and shrugged as if she still didn’t know what he was talking about.
Camilo snorted, rolling his eyes, “I’ll sic Gabe on you.”
“You wouldn’t,” Mirabel hissed.
Grinning, Camilo opened his mouth, drawing in a deep breath for maximum volume. Mirabel held her hand out to stop him and almost dropped the ladder. With a barely swallowed curse she caught the ladder and managed to lean it securely against the door frame.
She turned back to him, opened her mouth to lie, then thought better of it and instead said, “If I tell you, and you help, you know you’ll get blamed.”
“Hm,” Camilo thought about that, then slowly nodded. He was mischievous, fun loving Camilo, who played pranks; she was giftless, spare tire Mirabel, who must be protected at all costs. If they conspired together Abuela would never believe it was Mirabel’s idea.
Despite this, he eyed the ladder curiously, and she could see him debating whether or not getting blamed was worth sating his curiosity.
“I’ll tell you after I do it,” Mirabel tried.
“Promise?”
“Promise, as soon as I can tell you without risking you getting the blame, I will,” Mirabel nodded frantically.
“Alright, deal,” Camilo shrugged, apparently satisfied, “although if you’re going to be sneaking around, you should know Tío Bruno is still up.”
She stopped breathing for half a second, “He-? Did you see what he was doing?”
“Eh, being weird,” he said, casually piling a handkerchief with enough dessert to give a jaguar cavities, “as usual.”
“What sort of weird?”
“He was staring at the walls with a magnifying glass. I didn’t ask why. We got an arrangement you know,” Camilo tied off his handkerchief, “I don’t pry into all that weirdness he does, he doesn’t tell my Pá I get up in the middle of the night to steal food.”
“Did-, did it seem like he found whatever he was looking for?”
“I don’t know, why?”
Mirabel licked her lips, whereas before she had contemplated lying, now she thought it might be best to tell him the full truth.
But…
But if she did that then he would want to see the cracks too. And he would want to help fix them, like she did. And then this wouldn’t be Mirabel’s secret adventure, it would be just another thing her cousins helped her with.
“I’ll tell you when you can’t get blamed,” she repeated, “just uh, don’t tell anyone you saw me. Not even Tío Bruno.”
Usually Tío Bruno was pretty relaxed about them breaking the rules. He only ever tended to interfere when they were doing something spectacularly stupid. Like trying to turn Casita’s courtyard into a swimming pool.
“Wait, do you know what he was doing?”
“Yeah.”
Camilo once again looked really tempted to put his curiosity before his self preservation.
“Please,” Mirabel whispered, if she wasn’t holding the ladder she would have clasped her hands together, “let me do this without help.”
He raised an eyebrow again, frowning deeply, for once not looking even a little amused. His eyes drifted from her, to the ladder, then he turned and glanced at the kitchen door. Camilo looked back at her and nodded, an oddly sympathetic expression on his face.
“You promise you’ll tell me what’s going on?”
“Sí! On my life!”
“Ok, then I’ll cover for you,” Camilo said, “see if I can keep Gabe off your back.”
“Ay god, I would hug you if I didn’t have this ladder,” she breathed.
Camilo snorted, his usual grin sneaking back into place, “That’s two favors you owe me now.”
“Yeah, yeah! I can make you a new shirt or something,” Mirabel agreed, finally carrying the ladder the rest of the way into the kitchen.
“Oh, that’s not a bad idea,” he hummed thoughtfully, walking ahead of her and checking the courtyard was clear before he held up his thumb and strolled out of the kitchen with her, “actually, I got that old shirt with the ratty collar, it was one of my favorites.”
“You want me to spruce it up?” Mirabel asked, following him as quietly as she could with her steps weighed down by the heavy ladder, “How fancy we talking?”
“Wear it to parties but not church type fancy.”
“So something on the flashy side? You want any beading?”
“Oh, that depends, what you got?
“You know what, I’ll just make a few sketches and hand them over and you can circle what you like,” Mirabel said, huffing and puffing as she followed Camilo up the stairs. She bumped the ladder against the wall and immediately apologized to Casita.
“Works for me,” he agreed, checking the coast was clear at the top of the stairs before stepping out of the stairwell.
“Great,” she said, a bit distractedly as she carefully got the ladder around the corner and started carrying it towards the painting.
“Night,” Camilo whisper shouted, heading for his own room, and Mirabel returned the farewell over her shoulder.
When she got to the painting she carefully leaned the ladder on the wall, then opened the painting a crack. First she listened for any telltale sounds of shuffling sandals, then she peaked her head in. Once sure the secret passage was clear she opened the painting as wide as it would go.
With some difficulty she managed to get both the ladder and herself through the hole, then closed the painting behind her. Once again she waited for her eyes to adjust, then began the journey back down to the big ol’ hole she’d found.
The pathway seemed both twice as narrow and three times as long now that she was carrying a ladder through it. And she spent the entire time worried Tío Bruno would pop out from behind the next corner and catch her. But eventually, arms shaking from holding the ladder for so long, she made it to the hole.
Mirabel put the ladder down, unfolded it, then began feeding it into the apparent abyss. As she’d expected, it wasn’t even ten feet deep.
She climbed down the ladder then waded through the thick mist that clung to the ground and propped the ladder up against the other side. Mirabel climbed back up then turned and stared at the ladder.
The hole was maybe nine feet deep, and the ladder fully extended was about twelve feet. There was a possibility Bruno was wandering around back here, and there was no way he wouldn’t notice three feet of ladder sticking out of the hole.
She glanced over her shoulder then climbed back down.
After a bit of experimenting Mirabel figured out if she folded the ladder in half it was pretty well camouflaged by the mist and darkness. It meant she had to climb the last three feet without it, but there were plenty of footholds.
Hole vanquished and ladder sorted, Mirabel dusted herself off and continued her journey.
She was in uncharted territory now. She kept her eyes peeled for any cracks, and her ears open for any knocking on wood. Excitement bubbled in her throat as she got farther and farther into the walls, and away from the safe predictability of the outside world.
By the time she saw the faint golden light peeking out from around the next bend, it was all Mirabel could do to stop herself from skipping.
She slowed down, and carefully eased herself forward, toward the light. As she neared it, she started to hear a quiet scraping noise, punctuated by one of Tío Bruno’s noisy yawns. When she got to the corner she pressed her back to the wall, took a deep breath, then eased her head out to look around it.
The crack beneath Isabela’s feet had been small, small enough that the only reason Mirabel had noticed it was because of the motion involved in the actual cracking process.
These cracks were not small. And there must have been hundreds of them.
Mirabel gulped, watching transfixed as Tío Bruno casually patched the secret cracks in the walls of their home. Everything, from the way he gathered spackle, to the way he placed it on the cracks, to the way he carefully smoothed it out so the cracks were completely filled in, spoke of practice. Perhaps years of it.
How long had he been doing this?
Tío Bruno had always been the best uncle a girl could ask for, he was gentle, encouraging, easy to talk to, and always happy to offer a hug or embarrassing story about her mother. But he had also always been weird. Just so, so, weird.
Mirabel didn’t mind the weird, it was just a part of how Tío Bruno was. She suspected it was a side effect of being able to see things others couldn’t, because Amada could be a bit weird too. But the villagers minded the weird. They minded it a lot. Most of them at least.
Oh sure, some people saw Tío Bruno as a sort of mischievous but kind hearted spirit. He was always happy to help a child after all, but his visions often spread chaos or misery. There was a whole spectrum from people who believed Tío Bruno was good with bad parts, to people who believed he was bad with good parts. The general consensus was that despite being a Madrigal, and therefore an important part of the village, Tío Bruno was something other. Something capable of great darkness.
He was seen as a necessary evil.
Mirabel had always known better, she’d never doubted her uncle for a second. She still didn’t doubt that whatever was happening, Tío Bruno was doing whatever he could to help their familia.
But how long had he kept this a secret? And why?
Tío Bruno paused in his spackling to stretch and groaned as his back popped. The sound prompted her to withdraw, and she leaned back against the wall, re-evaluating the situation.
What the hell was happening?
She thought back to the conversation she’d overheard earlier. It sounded like Tío Bruno had seen the cracks coming, but didn’t know what had caused them. Although, he did seem sure that Mirabel herself was in the center of it.
Was…? Was this what the miracle had been preparing for? When it didn’t give her a gift? Was this… what she was born for?
Then why didn’t Tío Bruno tell her? Why was he patching the cracks instead of having her come and fix them?
For a second, Mirabel steeled herself, ready to burst around the corner and demand answers. But then she remembered something else Tío Bruno had said earlier.
He’d said something about how mature she was, how she knew how much her family loved her, then said, “I thought that would mean-. But it hasn’t”. So, it was entirely possible this wasn’t actually connected to her, he could have been wrong about her being at the center of whatever this was. Honestly, the cracks had appeared near Isabela, and apparently in Luisa’s room.
Not around Mirabel.
She risked one more glance around the corner, watching Tío Bruno patch up the wall for a few more seconds. Then she sighed and began sneaking back the way she’d come.
Alright, so she’d seen the cracks. Now what?
She didn’t know what was causing them, Tío Bruno didn’t even know what was causing them! He’d apparently been trying to figure it out for what? Years now?
What hope did Mirabel have?
For a second, she was tempted to just forget what she’d seen. She didn’t have a gift, she didn’t have a clue what was happening, she didn’t even know how to make spackle. Her role in the family was to stay safe in case the miracle ever needed her, she couldn’t go running around being reckless.
Mirabel reached the hole and stared down into the mist.
But-, but Mirabel wanted to help. She didn’t want to sit around and wait for everything to go wrong. She didn’t want to fix the damage, she wanted to solve whatever problem was causing it.
But what could she do that Tío Bruno couldn’t?
She stared down into the hole for a long time, turning that question around and around in her head. It’s entirely possible she would have stood there forever if she hadn’t been jolted from her thoughts by the sound of sandals slapping against wood.
Ah meircoles! Tío Bruno was coming.
With nowhere else to hide, Mirabel climbed down into the hole then took the ladder down so it was lying beneath the mist. She crouched down, waiting.
The slap of sandals got closer and closer, then suddenly sped up. Just as she suspected, with a running start, Tío Bruno lithely hopped from one floorboard to another until he was back on the other side. Then he just kept walking.
When the sound of his sandals had faded, Mirabel stood up straight with a little, “Huh.”
She’d known Tío Bruno could do that, she’d been expecting it, but that didn’t change how impressive it was to see it in real life. He was such a small man, and he was always complaining about his back. He didn’t look like-, well, he wasn’t exactly what Mirabel pictured when she thought of athleticism.
He used to be taller, in old pictures he was the same height as Tía Pepa, but his efforts to make himself seem smaller and non-threatening had paid off in the way of trouble standing up straight.
That was a revelation and a half. Just over a year ago Mirabel had been sneaking around with Amada. It could either be called late at night, or early in the morning, depending on your personal philosophies on that sort of thing. Their goal had not been to eavesdrop on a private conversation, but to get breakfast made before their Mamas woke up.
Unfortunately they had underestimated how early Julieta and Leandra had to wake up in order to have breakfast for sixteen people ready by sunrise, so eavesdropping is exactly what they ended up doing.
“I’m trying my best, but I’m not a chiropractor,” Julieta was saying, “honestly, at this point all I can do is ease the pain.”
“I know,” Leandra had sighed, “I know, I just wish there was something else that could be done.”
“There is,” Abuela said, and both girls had cringed, they’d be dead meat if Abuela caught them sneaking around, “he could stand up straight. He only has these problems because he’s always hunching over.”
Leandra sighed again, noisily, “Sí, but he’s not going to stop hunching until the villagers stop being afraid of him. You’ve raised a very kind and gentle man, he’d rather curse himself to decades of back problems than risk scaring people.”
There was a pause, then Abuela had sighed as well, when she spoke again her voice was softer, “Sí, he has always been-. Surely, he can think of some other way to make himself seem non-threatening. Something that doesn’t involve damaging his own spine?”
There had been more, but Mirabel didn’t get to hear it.
Amada had frowned, shaking her head, and snuck past the entrance to the kitchen. Mirabel had followed her a second later, sensing that something was wrong. Amada led her out into the night where she stared at the village, eyes glowing gold. Then she had picked up a rock, carried it up the road and placed it down at the edge of the market square, carefully adjusting it until it was just how she wanted it.
She’d walked back into Casita and the next day, it had rained heavily, leaving the ground slick with mud. After the rain let up the villagers flooded the market, a cart had rolled over the rock and the cart wheel had shattered. Nobody was hurt when the cart toppled over and, thanks to the slippery mud, skidded into the market square, however the fruit in the cart fell out and got underfoot. All but three people who passed through the square that day fell into the mud, either because they stepped on a piece of fruit that rolled out from under them, they stepped on a smashed piece of fruit that had mixed with the mud to make a goopy slippery puddle, or because they had been knocked over by somebody else who had fallen.
The rock hadn’t even been that big, it hadn’t looked like it would damage the cart, or like it could cause so much chaos. Just like Tío Bruno didn’t look like he could effortlessly vault over giant holes.
Sometimes, looks could be deceiving, sometimes expectations fell short of reality.
Mirabel propped the ladder back up and climbed out of the hole, marching back to the wall with all the cracks. She didn’t know what she could do.
But she was ready to find out.

Imagine if the miracle skipped every third child in the family. That would have Bruno, Mirabel and Antonio without gifts.
Oh boy...
When the triplets received their doors, they and Alma didn't know what to expect, so the three kids opened them.
Julieta and Pepa got a magical room with each a gift. Julieta could heal with her food, and Pepa's mood effected the weather. But Bruno didn't...
Instead, his door faded away, and he didn't get a gift...
Not knowing what to do with her giftless son, Alma basically forced Bruno to stay in the nursery, while his sisters each have their own magical room and power...
Due to not having a gift like his sisters, Bruno was deemed useless by his mother, even by Pepa sometimes. It quite hurt him...
For the next 35 years, Bruno slept in the nursery, even if his nieces and nephew stayed in there...
As the years passed, Isabela, Dolores, Luisa and Camilo got their own magical rooms and gifts. Everything was okay for a while, until Mira's ceremony came...
Just like her Tío Bruno, her door faded in front of her, as well as not getting a gift...
And just like last time, Mirabel was dumped in the nursery...
Alma and Pepa immediately blamed Bruno, saying that he must have effected the magic, that it was his fault, yada yada...
Bruno didn't leave. Instead, he focused his attention on Mirabel, making sure she was happy despite the lack of a gift. He had to deal with it for 40 years, after all.
Over time, the two grew close, even to a point where Mira accidentally called her Tío "papá' multiple times...
5 years later, Antonio was born.
Bruno was the one who took care of him most of the time, since Pepa and her side of the family were too busy helping the town...
As a result, Antonio's first word was Papá, but not towards Félix...
It didn't help that Antonio said "I don't have a mami?" near Pepa...
Years passed, and it was time for Antonio's ceremony. Due to the previous one, Alma and Pepa told both Bruno and Mira to not attend the ceremony, not wanting her youngest son and grandson to end up giftless like them.
But Bruno and Mira secretly attended anyways, hoping that Tonito would get a gift.
But, just like them, he didn't...
Unfortunately, Bruno and Mira got discovered shortly after Antonio's door faded, and it wasn't pretty...
And just like his Tío and prima, Antonio had to stay in the nursery again...

Last night I had a weird dream based off the Madrigal gift swap post I did a long time ago when I first started this blog. For those who don’t remember, Mirabel had Antonio’s gift while Isabela had Luisa’s gift. In the dream, I remember Mirabel making fun of Isabela by going “oh, Isabela?! Remember this?” And then proceeding to swing down the same way that Isabela did in the beginning of the movie…
Tumblr media
but on a snake being held up in the air by birds. And she was saying in a high-pitched, airy voice “our Angel, oUr AnGeL!!!11!!!” Then she giggled and said “oh, it’s nothing!” And proceeded to do the hair flip that Isabela did.
Tumblr media
Only butterflies flew out instead of flowers.
At this point, Isabela got steaming mad. She picked up a huge boulder and yelled. “Our Angel? OUR ANGEL?!” And Mirabel screamed and ran away, Isabela chasing her throughout the Casita with the giant ass boulder. While this was happening, Pepa was covering her ears and crying her heart out, Antonio was handing her a plate of cookies and looking at Mirabel and Isabela in confusion, Dolores was practicing her own vine-swinging skills, and Camilo was crying in a corner, huddled up into a ball.
So yeah. Fun times.

AU idea for Encanto
Their faults, our fates AU
outline
Camilo,Mirabel(10 yrs) and Antonio (baby) are kidnapped to exploit their gifts (mirabel has one here related to the truth, like a lie detector, more details about it here).
No one knows who the kidnappers are, as they aren't part of the encanto. Pepa and Julieta go insane trying to find their kids, with their powers (or lack of, since Julieta stops cooking) effecting the town.
Bruno never disappeared since mirabel has a gift. But some people still hate him (even though it's gotten better,THANK MIRABEL). He's extremely close to his nieces and nephews, especially Mirabel. So the kidnapping effected him too.
Meanwhile the kidnappers mostly abuse the two eldest cousins especially camilo (as he stands against them especially when they try to hurt his familia) and leaves him mentally and physically abused also selectively mute (more details later). Mirabel is treated better due to her gift (which camilo secretly resents) but is still abused and the only reason Antonio isn't as abused as them is that the kidnappers have enough sense to keep him alive till he gets his gift and try to basically bend him to their will (more details about how that turned out later(P.S it thankfully failed but had repercussions)).
All of the trios personality changes (mostly Camilo and Antonio) in mostly bad ways. ABUSE IS NEVER OK.
They are forced to act as a normal family with their abusers in their new village to not arouse suspicion, the town soon truly adore the madrigal cousins but the adults dislike and are suspicious of their "parents". After three years, they finally leave their abusive lifestyle with the help of the village. They live peacefully for the next two years but hide their powers or true identities in fear of the village hating them (something the abusers implanted into their mind).
Meanwhile the madrigal family still know that the trio are alive but have searched everywhere except Alma's old village which they believe to be in ruins, also you know trauma. However the day Antonio gets a gift a new door appears just when they were about to give up. The door showed animals native to Columbia (yes I searched it up a bit, might have gotten some things wrong though) and renews hope that they still live nearby (as the encanto rainforest has those kind of animals).
This leads Alma to finally push past her trauma and search the area of her home where they find a small village with someone looking incredibly like mirabel...
This AU is named :- Their faults, our fate AU
will elaborate on the details of this Au soon, ask questions if you're interested or confused.
Credit me for any works of this AU

Past life au
How about an au where Mirabel could help you see your past life? like a past life gift(I'm not sure what to call it).
She didn't know how to use it at first, like yeah she got a door and room but she didn't know what her gift was. Her room was filled with pictures of people she didn't know or at least didn't know in her current life. She touched a picture with a family on it and memories washed over her 5-year-old brain.
She had another mama, papa, and a little brother from a life she didn't remember.
For the next 3 weeks, Mirabel kept asking her family about people they didn't even know. She touched more pictures and more memories of people she knew grew in her mind. Mirabel was 5 yrs old in the body but she was 300 yrs old to reincarnation standards. She had many reincarnations about 10 of them. Some good and some others she would not like to talk about
She one day touched Julieta and Juli had memories of another brother, father, and mother appear in her memories. Mirabel did the same with Alma and Bruno and they remember the same thing. They were a family in a different life. Alma knows in her gut that her first husband was Pedro.
She then tried with her other family. Some memories were good and some were bad. Isabela and Dolores were sisters in their first life and were overjoyed to remember that. But they also had a bad life as well. They were sisters in this life but they were kidnapped and well(you know the rest). With that bad memory, they would stay conjoined at the hip and would not leave each other's sides. Nightmares would occur on a regular basis and they would avoid Felix and Julieta
The same happened to the other madrigals. They had good and bad memories. (all the bad memories are from your sad au's but they look completely different in those past lives)
When the bad memories show up they act completely different people. Isa and Lolo know that it was a past life and can differ from theirs but the memories would overcome them and look like their real.
Mirabel was never blamed or treated badly for these memories they know it's not her fault. When she was 8 she finally found a way to differentiate bad past lives from good ones. They are in the back of a human's subconscious and she can easily go inside the mind of someone and find the past life.
Once she's in somebodies subconscious there are never before seen memories in mirrors. The good memories are in beautiful and really decorated mirrors. The bad memories are in mirrors that looked cracked and unused. She didn't know this before, All she would do is touch and whoever many reincarnations you had would wash over you. Whatever memory would come out first was out of her control.
The way she did it was by touching her mama's head and Mira was transported into her subconscious.

[Cursed gifts AU]
Mirabel: Am I fine? Of course I am
Mirabel: It's just that two-thirds of my family members are going though hell and I don't know how to help them.
Mirabel: And this started after I yelled at Abuela so it's most likely my fault

Au time, Mirabel gets the gift of life! Now this is where she can bring things that she makes to life. And once she touched her door, her plushies that were in the nursery that she got help from her Mami and Abuela to make come out and immediately go in her new bedroom!
Bye that would be so cute 😭😭 a bunch of little stuffed animals running around helping. I'm screaming. ALSO???? IMAGINE THE LITTLE JAGUAR MIRABEL MAKES. I'm just imaging Antonio opening the box, and it's empty. And she calls for it and it comes running in.
Sobbing. This au is so cute <333

Isabela needed to be perfect. Everyone in the family did, really; they were the amazing Madrigals, so blessed, so helpful and strong. But she was the eldest, the shining example to her sisters, her cousins, to everyone in her age group.
Señorita Perfecta Isabela. Sweet, angelic, perfect Isabela. The flower princess.
And now Mirabel. The little shining star. Warm, loving, happy Mirabel.
Isabela didn’t want to see her sister’s smile disappear.
Of course she’d help her. What else could she do?
🌸✨
Perfect, perfect, perfect. Everything has to be perfect. Abuela is happy. The family is happy. The village is happy. Mirabel is happy.
Isabela will make sure it stays that way. Of course she'll help her little sister. What else could she do?
