Okay, I know there are some, ah… mixed feelings about Christmas music. Some love it, some hate it, some like it in non-excess at holiday times, some simply tolerate it. Retails workers often have love-hate relationships with it (trust me, I know 😭)
However I have come to find that most people seem to have at least one Christmas song they really like, one that really makes it feel like Christmas every year.
Obviously this will be limited because there are SO MANY Christmas songs out there, I’m going to group a couple of songs for each option that have similar themes, but as always please specify what you mean in the tags! I want to know what people are loving <3
This poll is just going to be for secular, non-religious songs. I may do a second poll just for those though!
Some advice for anyone picking a Christmas Duet this year:
Baby It’s Cold Outside:
overdone so your vocal performance will be compared to hundreds of singers who are way more talented than you.
clearly a lovey-dovey song written for couples only. Sorry single people.
controversial, so whether you’re facing the “the song is problematic” crowd, or the “the song actually isn’t problematic” crowd or the “the song is actually progressive” crowd, you’re gonna have to be ready to justify the song choice.
Alternatively: The Heat Miser/Snow Miser Song from “A Year without a Santa Claus”:
your vocal performance will really only be compared to some puppets from 1974
the song could be sung by any two people. Is it siblings? Friends? Strangers? Coworkers? Rivals? Enemies? Lovers? Enemies to lovers? That’s up to you. Plus you can add in background singers for the “he’s Mr. White/Green Christmas” parts so everyone can be a part of the fun.
the only thing you need to do to justify breaking into this song unprompted is start a fight over the thermostat.
So much talk on the Internet about the Star Wars Holiday Special and not nearly enough talk about Christmas in the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album, the absolute banger of a novelty album featuring such classic songs as the one where R2D2 does not know about bells, the one where R2D2 does not know how to sing, and the one where a young Bon Jovi wishes R2D2 a merry Christmas in what is (and this is true) his first appearance on a professionally-produced album.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t also name drop actual Billboard Charts Hit (#69 in 1980… nice) “What Can You Get a Wookie for Christmas (When He Already Owns a Comb)?”
The only human from the Star Wars cast they could snag is Anthony Daniels as C-3PO so he carries most of the vocals, which is a genius choice. Thanks to SFX, they also have R2D2 and Chewbacca and the rest is filled in by droids who are actually composer Maury Yeston, S. Claus portrayed by composer Maury Yeston, and a disembodied chorus that shows up occasionally without explanation. Also, as previously mentioned, Bon Jovi (backed by a chorus of children who flippin love R2-D2)
Anyway listen to this thing and remember not to think about anything too hard (especially statistics and DEFINITELY not the whole “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” thing). Enjoy!
