Unpopular opinion, probably.

So I've read many metas, and thought a lot about it and have come to my own personal conclusion about the final 15.

I'm taking it at face value.

Because it was the most human Crowley and Aziraphale have probably ever been and I think that is at least part of the point. Love makes people stupid and they are navigating a very human thing in very unhuman circumstances, and it's hard enough to do as a human in human circumstances!

I think Aziraphale believed the Metatron about Crowley bc he was expecting the worst when TM mentioned Crowley but instead got the one thing he wanted most (him and Crowley together and safe, not Crowley being an angel. ) Crowley was absolutely the carrot here. (and no I do not think Crowley would have been safe or happy, but that's besides the point.) I can't tell you how many times I've believed patently ridiculous things because I wanted to believe them so badly even though if I was looking at the same situation objectively from an outside POV I would see how ridiculous it was, so I totally get it. This isn't to say I think Azi had a real choice to go to Heaven or not and I think he did understand that as well, but I get the temptation the Metatron threw out to him, I really do.

As for Aziraphale literally saying all the wrong things to try and get Crowley to come with him? Um yeah been there done that too, the nerves take over, the brain shuts off, the mouth goes into autopilot pulling stuff out its ass, and "WITAF did I just say?" happens.

Crowley not taking any of it well and only hearing what he expected to hear (I'm not good enough for you bc I'm a demon and you only really want me if I can be an angel) *and* also being more able to see through heavens bullshit bc he has lived it, and can see it from the outside, *and* all whilst being the most honest and vulnerable he has ever been with Aziraphale in 6,000 plus years (or in fact possibly to anyone, ever. the closest before this admitting he was lonely to Azi during the Job minisode,) *then* hearing what he took to be the same Heaven will save us line from Azi was enough to trigger a massive bout of RSD and a broken heart. Everything was supposed to "vavoom and sorted! " and instead the stupid awning broke and everything went wrong. I think I've said it before that at this point Crowley can't hear anything over the sound of his heart breaking into a million pieces.

That's a whole lot to pack into the brief moments before Azi has to leave with the Metatron (who let's be honest was rushing him before he could change his mind) esp when neither of them are used to discussing their relationship openly. They didn't have time to think, to ask questions, to share information, (like hey guess what really happened to Gabriel?) Crowley tried to communicate as much as he could about his feelings with the kiss but Azi didn't have the time to properly process all that and said the wrong thing again and Crowley was rejected (he thought) again and it all just went so very wrong. You can't fix a 6,000 year relationship in 15 minutes, you just can't no matter what the story books say.

It's about two people wanting the same thing but not being able to get it (yet) because of circumstances and personalities. All of S2 was about them seeming to be closer than ever (and in many ways they were) but really they were opposed at almost every turn. (in RL not the minisodes, those actually showed them working together and coming out okay mostly, if you don't count wee Morag or Crowley getting dragged to hell) The way they both handled the Gabriel situation, how they both worked to solve the mystery, even how they tried to make Nina and Maggie fall in love were all either done alone, or in opposite ways. I've said it before and I'll say it again, as it was pointed out right in ep1, their exactlies aren't the same and until they are, they aren't going to be able to be together. The one time they did work together in the season, they produced a 25 lazuri miracle. That is the point of the final 15, and the whole season 2 in my opinion.

They'll get there in the end though!

You would think, after a month of voracious reading of BATFAMILY fic, that I would at least begin to slow down, because I still primarily read I’m Having Dick Grayson Feelings And I’m Making That Everyone Else’s Problem, but I have also discovered that I have Jason feelings, I have Tim feelings, and I have Damian feelings. Which of course I knew before, but what I really learned is that other people have made this my problem now, too. And by that I mean that there’s amazing fic on all of the Bat babies and I am not immune. Okay, at this point, I'm not even sure what to think of my own theories anymore and if this makes any sense AT ALL but WHAT IF

What if Aziraphale not only was very aware of how much the words “I forgive you” after the kiss would hurt Crowley but WANTED his words to hurt Crowley – to make it easier for both of them to leave.

Let me elaborate. Gifs inclusive!

I was just listening to the song “Hot Mess” by dodie and one part of the chorus especially struck me:

Make it ugly, put on a show Hack it that I hate you so that I can let go

Essentially, it’s about how the narrative voice of the song is trying to hate their partner in order to let them go. The idea behind this is that if the breakup is worse than it needs to be – i.e. if one person is being tricked into hating the other person – it’s easier for them to stop loving them.

What if Aziraphale is doing this to his relationship with Crowley?

We know (thanks to Rob Wilkins) that, after the kiss, Aziraphale is trying to comprehend what's happening and that he wants Crowley to do it again.

But he doesn't say any of that.

In this 10-second-long eternity after the kiss, Aziraphale is clearly struggling for words. He is not even looking at Crowley but focused on an undefined point in front of him as if he can't bear to meet his gaze just yet. He is completely overwhelmed.

When he dares to look up, he takes one deep breath. Of course, we can only speculate what is going through his mind. For the sake of this meta, I'm going to propose the theory that at this moment, Aziraphale realizes how hopeless their situation actually is.

Their love for each other is undeniable. Both of them said that they wanted to be together, even if they used different words to describe their desire. But while Crowley wants to fight their battle against Armageddon from the outside, Aziraphale wants to change Heaven's system from the inside. And behind these approaches lie such deep-rooted beliefs about, well, everything, that they pose an obstacle they can't overcome. Not yet. Not through running off together. Not even if their love is 6000 years deep. It's the epitome of tragedy, really.

Aziraphale knows this. He knows that in this situation, this will only hurt more the further they go. So he takes a deep breath. And he decides to do the excruciating thing neither of them wants to do but that needs to be done:

He ends it.

Aziraphale knows about the harmfulness of his words – these specific words of all the things he could have said or done. Even as he is saying them, he looks as if it physically hurts him to do so. His eyes seem to be full of pain, maybe even regret. But how else will he convince Crowley to do what he can't, how else will he make him let go?

When Crowley leaves, Aziraphale doesn't attempt to stop him again. No matter how plainly this breaks his heart, no matter how he's barely holding himself together. He lets him go.

In German, there is a saying that could literally be translated to: It's better to have an end with terror than to have terror without an end (Besser ein Ende mit Schrecken als ein Schrecken ohne Ende). I think it fits this particular reading of the scene quite well. In Aziraphale's mind, their relationship would result in such agony that they would hurt even more. By ending their relationship before it has even begun, he is trying to protect both of them – making the pain great but definite instead of ongoing.

Does that sound plausible to anyone?

I myself am still quite unsure how to feel about this interpretation of Aziraphale's reaction, so I would love to hear some thoughts on it! <3

Because the way he says it - with this deep fondness and affection - makes me want to want to chew my own fingers down to the bone. Because after that absolutely earth shattering intro where this happens:

(ID: Screenshot of Ray from ep4 where he calls Mew from the bathroom saying "If I'm gone, I won't be anyone's burden anymore, right?) one would assume that Ray wouldn't take being called a burden very well, certainly wouldn't grow an emotional attachment to someone who has called him that multiple times, has expressed his irritation over Ray's clinginess upfront.

And yet that is exactly what happened. So the question is - why? I've seen multiple ppl talk about this so I feel like I don't need to explain here how Ray's friend group aren't particularly good friends to him. Even Mew, who Ray supposedly loves isn't all that affectionate or understanding towards him. Please read this meta for a breakdown of why and how Mew's response to Ray when he calls him from the brink of suicide and for which Ray is so incredibly grateful for - fell laughably short. Ray who's mother never loved him (and it's likely quite nuanced since she quite obviously committed suicide and I can't even begin to comprehend the heights of fucked up abandonment issues that would wreak on one's child), Ray who is yet to mention his father even once, Ray who tells his friends how much he loves them all the time and literally never hears it back - you know, that guy isn't really looking for a grand love, he isn't waiting for someone to see inside his soul and find something wonderful - he's looking for scraps. Literally anything.

He wants someone to look at him, see inside to his festering, broken, ugly core and still find it worth loving, find it worth saving. And Sand? He does exactly that from like Day 0

Like he doesn't really like Ray here in this moment and he's not very secretly very annoyed at him. But no matter what,he will protect him. Ray isn't awake in the above clip to experience it but it just drives me crazy how Sand is exactly the person that Ray has been waiting for, a person capable of very intense albeit pragmatic love. Someone who can call out Ray's burdens and still love him through it (unlike you know...his so called friends). Yes, there are quite overt parallels between the arc of Ray's feelings for Sand and Mew:

Didn't even bother to do anything about it when Boston was trying to get in his head about Mew at the party and instead went straight back to making fuck me eyes at Sand. When Mew told him not to fight with Top, didn't he immediately back down? Didn't he let Mew walk away with Top without a fight? Ray hadn't felt the need to confess his feelings again or kiss Mew for two years, not until he sees Mew in Sand's POOR BOY shirt. Ray can't stay away from Sand, doesn't have a single clue as to what it is he's feeling for him (please have your life ruined by this gifset) - how could he? How could he possibly know what it feels like to be loved by someone? How could he possibly know what it feels like to love someone?

Imagine them just hearing a friend of yours roast your build. You're just all soft and a little mad. You love them and you're trying your best. Imagine them seeing your scrunched up face ad you try to finish your comissions while your friend just yells at you to use the burst and how you built them.

Me with a friend who religiously uses 2 supports, 1 healer, and 1 dps vs me just using whoever I feel like

Honestly up until after the Inazuma quest I was a firm believer that I only needed characters and teams to be just strong enough to get me through the challenges in the story quests

I spent absolutely zero time researching artifacts and which elements worked well together, I would just slap anything on anyone simply because the name of the set sounded like it fit for the character

I used the starter set of characters for all three archon quests while maybe switching one out if a puzzle called for another element

Even now I only really build characters I like, the only reason I started learning about the cursed world of artifact stats in the first place was because Venti deserves the world and this was the closest I could give him and honestly Venti hasn't left my team for a single second after getting him, doesn't matter what I'm fighting or doing he's gonna be there no matter how inconvenient

But yeah conclusion is meta sucks and it's perfectly fine to not wanna focus on that

Now if they happened to hear you getting made fun of by presumably another 'deity' for the way you handle their world and things going on in it, well of course they're throwing hands, that's just not something they'll take lying down

I imagine the characters you're fighting with would suddenly end up doing like a stupid amount of damage just to prove that the bond they share with you is stronger than any artifact set you (or your friend) could ever grace upon them

Then maybe if your friend tries to take over and complete the commission themselves, picking out what they consider to be the 'proper' character set, none of those characters are going to cooperate, you're the only one that's allowed to use them of course, they belong solely to you

And I honestly imagine the characters would be more flattered if you picked them based only on who you felt like using and not based on damage or anything like that, because that means you value them as more than just a tool or an extension of yourself, that you simply like and want to be around them, which is, of course, the highest form of honor

my real answer: I'm extremely uninterested in getting into arguments with people set on demonizing traumatized mentally ill characters for being traumatized and mentally ill. particularly when it comes to wilburians and inniters having strange crimeboys takes and taking pot shots at each other.

neither side (speaking only to the extremists in each group of course) seems to want to hear that traumatized mentally ill people Will often hurt each other while also still loving and caring about each other. the messy symptoms for Their character flattened and excused and pasted over, while the messy symptoms of the other are amplified and taken out of context and demonized.

I especially feel like with wilbur in particular people are really sensitive about viewing anything he does and says in a negative light, because of how he was treated in the fanbase And because of how Much his story is centered around his suicide.

the nasty things he said To Tommy, whether that be during his spiral or in limbo or after his revival, are so often just. Smoothed Over. if not outright talked about like it's some gotcha that people use to vilify wilbur and not a pattern of behavior just as much as tommy's own aggressiveness.

people vilified tommy for being scared and angry at wilbur after his reintroduction to the point that there are people who genuinely fully believe that their limbo stream and tommy's obvious fear of wilbur after tommy's own revival was retconned.

to put it bluntly, I think there's a ton of projection happening on both sides, understandably so considering how deeply and beautifully these characters tackle mental health. but I think that projection mingled with the way that Other parts of the fandom mistreat these characters make this Extreme defensiveness that's just really not worth engaging with.

and that's not even considering how the mcyt community as a whole has a major problem with parasocial relationships taken too far. Especially during 2020-2021 when covid was at its height and people were really leaning onto Their Streamer to help them cope with the isolation.

that's not to say that parasocial relationships or projection are inherently Bad. I know full well that I do both without a shred of embarrassment about it. it's very famously why I still can't engage with boundless sands content without immediately bursting into tears a year later.

but a lot of people can't seem to untangle their very personal feelings about it from arguments about characterization or writing or meta. it's very important to them to absolve Their Good Friend from any guilt or wrongdoing and to stick up for them against the bad people that are hurting them, be that other characters or people online. Especially when "their good friend" is Also a stand in for themselves (whether they realize it or not).

and it's just not worth engaging with that, especially not in 2024. if someone needs to use wilbur to be kind to the part of themselves that's hurting then by all means, I'm certainly not throwing stones in glass houses.

but there's really nothing To Say to someone who fully believes that tommy needs to be held accountable for driving wilbur to suicide in pogtopia. I think that's an extremely uncharitable, unkind thing to believe. I think it's an Unfair thing to believe. but it kind of doesn't matter what I think. I doubt there's anything that I or anyone could say that would change someone's mind if they already believe this.

and for my money, I'll be content just not speaking to someone who thinks that way.

my first reaction: did I only get sent this because I said that tommy calling wilbur crazy during pogtopia while actively trying to take care of him and get him to not kill himself isn't the same thing as techno doing it while actively enabling wilbur's violent self destructive death spiral [Link]

I kinda lost my big Dean farewell tour meta, but I still stand by the fact that Dean's decision not to go into the Mal'ak box was very much based on multiple people's support (Sam, Mary, Cas, Jack). That said, it was so so so conspicuous that he actively avoided Cas and Jack the most.

When Cas cornered him in Prophet and Loss things got, "an awkward beat / So this is goodbye?"...weird fast.

In Ouroboros, all Cas has to do is catch Dean's eyes, and he just...falls right open. It's very clear that Cas's opinion on the matter is a quiet, powerful unsaid-thing.

Cas's hope is important here. More important than perhaps ANYONE is willing to admit. When he reassures Dean, Dean feels more at ease. More hopeful. And with most hopeful things, it feels a long way down when you fall from it.

Later, when Dean wakes up after his injury, yes he's talking to all of TFW, of course he is. (He's talking to his brother, his best friend, his foster son.)

Here we have Dean lamenting that, like the chicken in Noah's story, he let his guard down, and now the snake is loose in the bunker.

And here, we have such a subtle thing. The first of many cracks. Cas jumps in to talk to him, and Dean immediately fires back. He's reacting to Cas.

The camera focuses on Sam, gets Sam's reaction. But Dean? Dean's squared up to Cas. He's invoking his fresh conversation with Cas in the diner.

Cas is holding Dean's gaze evenly, and they're assuming their usual battle positions. Sam holds up his hands like he's getting between them, de-escalating the thing between them on gut instinct.

(it reminds me of this one)

Already, there's an insidious, human emotion seeming to take hold. Or at least, the seeds of it.

Somewhere deep is the burgeoning blame Dean's going to eventually put on Cas -> putting on him "the things he can't take," expecting him to protect everyone from everything, to be safe and keep them all safe.

("It's your fault I stayed. Because I stayed, [OMITTED, people I loved died]. It's more your fault than the others.")

But why is it more Cas's fault? Why is the reaction so outsized in Dean?

He doesn't just blame Cas for Mary, for the loss of Jack's soul that lead up to it. (Cas was supposed to succeed where John failed.)

He blames Cas for being a big part of why Dean wanted to stay in the first place. Cas made Dean want things.

And Dean's historic willingness to sacrifice himself is built on not wanting things for himself.

okay, I'm gonna start this off by saying this whole thing hinges on whether or not the show is gonna keep mirroring Buck and Eddie's personal journeys and this is mostly about Buck, I have no idea what they're gonna do with Eddie lol. First of all, @aziraaphales made this set back when the finale aired about the similarities between Buck and Taylor and Buck and Natalia and that illustrates it beautifully, the whole she came back, they seem happy, are they really? and that's a point against Natalia lasting in my opinion. But the thing is, I think Bucktalia also mirrors Eddiana, and that's when things start to get interesting in my brand of insanity. You have Buck treating Natalia's hand, you have Eddie treating Ana's, Ana and Natalia being reduced to their jobs, the first date in broad daylight in a cafe of some sort, a second date at home being interrupted by the rest of their lives (if you push a bit and think about Kameron's pregnancy, both dates are interrupted by their children even if the baby isn't Buck's on the ways that matter), you have the picture-perfect ending at home after a near-death experience, so the parallels are there too. And that means one important parallel, Buck holding on for the wrong reasons the same way Eddie did, which could doom that relationship further, but also leave Buck spiraling. Because if we're comparing personal journeys, Buck is in a state that's a mix of season 4 Eddie trying to be happy through the trauma and outside looking in/fear-o-fobia Eddie. I think we can even directly parallel some stuff, like, I truly believe the cemetery is the way Buck would handle the outside looking in kitchen talk if that went the other way around.

But the thing is, Buck needs to deal with the shit that happened to him before getting together with Eddie so I'm choosing to look at these as fuel for my Buck Breakdown beliefs. Unlike Eddie, Buck actually died, so that changes the dynamic a little bit, there's also the way that Buck doesn't care about his own life enough to break over dying, but while Eddie's PTSD has many triggers, the thing that actually breaks him is the knowledge that he didn't save the people he thought he saved. So my grand theory here is something happening to Maddie, Bobby, or Christopher that makes Buck lose it. I don't really think they would do something to Chris, but using him would have a similar effect if it wasn't for the fact that it would also break Eddie. Eddie himself doesn't count in this situation unless is both Eddie and Chris, because Buck would be forced to keep it together if something happened to Eddie for Chris' sake. Or maybe if they like, killed off the Buckley parents and forced Buck to deal with that grief. But Maddie or Bobby, dangerous situation, close call, hospital stay, honestly, something that would leave them in enough danger to trigger Buck, low-key don't think you need much to trigger that man. But trigger, Buck losing it, Eddie talking Buck down (how would Eddie find out Buck is losing it? I don't know, plot convenience, I like the idea of divorced-era Buddie and Eddie storming the loft because he's tired of Buck's bullshit and finding him, or maybe someone from dispatch calls Eddie because there's been a call from Buck's address, I don't know, they can get creative there), Buck working towards working his own shit out. But we're in this weird season 4/season 5b mix, right? How do we end s4? Near-death experience that calls back to a previous trauma, big revelation, aborted love confession.

One thing I refuse to compromise on is the fact that Eddie had his oh! moment during the shooting (it's my truth I am not letting it go) so you can probably see where I'm going here, right? A Buck in a better mind space almost dying by chance, getting saved by Eddie, and realizing something. You see the vision? Current vision goes back and forth between equipment malfunctioning, Buck falling, and Eddie being the only one close enough to get to him, this usually goes around a cliff, a bridge, and Buck falling into water (I know the truck bombing is not technically equipment malfunction but equipment did try to kill him, and water is Buck's worst enemy lol), or Buck and Eddie stopping to help someone, and shit going to hell, this vision usually goes with Buck and Eddie seeing a car crash of some sort, again someone drove off a cliff or off a bridge, they go to help, Buck gets trapped in the car, Eddie needs to save him (trapped under a vehicle, water) or just straight up having them drive of a bridge. Because something really big about the shooting is the way that, one it happened by chance, two they weren't supposed to be there, three Buck didn't have anyone he trusted there so he did the saving alone, and four by having Eddie get shot, you're bringing up why he left the army. So with Buck, if they stick to this pattern, you need to drown him or trap him under something, or both. And you have the way the lightning parallels the well and the shooting, and the well triggered something for Eddie, you have the whole you need to keep fighting, find your own way out, the suffocation aspect for both of them when you realize Eddie is about to drown and Buck's lungs are not working, and also the way Buck is supposed to learn something during his coma that could lead to a conversation similar to the will reveal. This is when the vision gets cloudy. Because ideal world, the reveal is Buck's feelings and we don't have an aborted love confession, we have a plain old confession, but the aborted route is always a possibility with a see you in season 8 thing.

But yeah, Buck breakdown, Buck starting to deal with his shit, near-death experience, Eddie having to save him alone, tense conversation after. I'm also slightly obsessed with what could happen in a scene where Eddie is dragging Buck out of the water, cpr, mouth to mouth, "you're not doing this to me again", Buck coughing up water while sitting up, Eddie catching him, "I got you, I got you". The possibilities are ENDLESS. Just put Ryan's emotional power to work. All those fun things oskaoskaoskoaksas

Also, this mostly hinges on Buck doing something to change their relationship because considering Buck tripped into 4 relationships, he needs to start this one. I'm a firm Buck needs to do something first believer. Buck's endgame relationship needs to start with him making a move. Also, my whole Buck needs to choose thing is all about Shannon saying that Eddie keeps making all the choices, so Eddie needs to let go of control and Buck needs to go for what he wants.

Hi!!!! I have been reading your tvc metas, and they are wonderful and I want to thank you for it!

I have been struggling to read theses books, and it really help me, I love IWTV, Louis is my fav, the aspect and style of first book is astonishing, the entire loustat dynamic is fascinating. And as much I love Lestat too, I didn't like TVL, and it left me frustrated with myself and disappointed with the book. It took me weeks to read TVL, and even more months to finish QotD. For me IWTV could stand alone, the other books seem to be part of a completely different series.

Your metas have helped me deal with my frustrations with TVC, and thank you for that, because i love theses characters (some of them) and I want to know their stories, still sad due to the lack of Louis, and I will try to read all the books so that my information about it are not all second handed.

and most important, I love your blog, I love your art and your fanfics 🫶

That's so nice of you I'm so so glad!! It's so exciting when someone likes my metas and fics, I love to write them! It's especially cool if it's made the books more enjoyable!! Book Louis is my special little guy of all time and like a small weird mangey rabbit that I keep as a beloved pet even though he bites so I'm also very happy to hear that you loved IWTV!!

As pretentious as it sounds, I was disappointed that a lot of new fans coming from the show didn't really Get book Louis or make an effort to understand his character. He's....challenging (nasty and gross) but there's so much rich character building there and it makes me sad when people write him off as boring and one note. AMC Louis is a really great character and I enjoy him a lot, but I don't like sentiment that he's a "fix" for a bad character.

As for TVL, I really do love it (even though IWTV is my favorite), but I can see how the style change can be jarring. In a way, it almost IS a different series because the narrator and POV has changed so drastically. It's in the same universe, but a totally different take on it to match a contrasting personality. I think it comes across better on a second read too because you're more prepared for the switch and have more context.

I can understand being partial to one style or the other (plenty of people prefer TVL to IWTV which I understand for sure), but I hope that even if the book itself wasn't for you that you enjoyed the insight into Lestat’s character. The first two books combined make for such a fantastic relationship dynamic in top of great stand alone characters, even better than just IWTV on its own in my opinion because now we know so much about them both.

This might be somewhat controversial among VC fans (?) but I don't really care for QotD either, with the exception of the Devil's Minion chapter and the ending with Loustat. I think it really shows the flaws beginning to emerge in AR's writing, but it's SO much better than what comes after that it gets more praise than maybe it deserves. Then again, I'm extremely partial to character-driven stories, so maybe if you're a plot guy it's a matter of preference.

If you've read my metas I'm sure you know that I don't really recommend anyone read past QotD, but I also see it as kind of rite of passage if you really want to be in the real trenches of the book fandom. It's miserable and you won't be the same afterward but the curse of forbidden knowledge is kind of a unifying factor, the ties that bind. If you choose to proceed then I wish you best and hope you'll come back to commiserate later.

Either way, I'm really glad you got some value from my metas! I love some of these characters so much and I'm super happy they were validating for you as a reader and maybe enhanced the experience in other ways! I aim to provide only the best VC Sparknotes.

I always have more to talk about (in meta and in fic), so I hope you enjoy everything that's coming just as much!

Oh god the order left sirius to rot in prison take is back. I hate it so much they never take into account the bigger picture. "People knew he was very anti voldemort why wouldnt they think of that" well everyone in the order knew there was a spy among them and remus thought that was sirius, I wouldnt be suprised if other members thought it as well. And everyone in the order was anti voldemort. "Dumbledore didnt even hear sirius side of it when he heard out death eater snape" like snape asked to meet with Dumbledore and never do we hear of sirius requesting to speak to him while in jail. And as soon as sirius actually speeks to Dumbledore he realizes sirius is innocent. And they never seem to take into account how sirius never tried to prove his innocence, he seemed actually to rather do the opposite. So heres the case sirius the secret keeper betrayed the potters and hunted down and killed Peter qnd 12 other people and when they get to sirius he says i killed them. And with how the chaos of those days i can see how people wouldnt question he was guilty. The order didnt fight for him well he didnt fight for himself either and how are you gonna start doing that when sirius as good as said he was guilty.

That "take" generally recycles itself among newer readers and fanfic writers who are excellent with prose but should really know better than to whitewash certain characters, and who have a bad habit of not referring back to canon when doing their fix-its.

I generally ignore takes that sound like they're either from the "Marauders fandom" or from people who haven't read the books in a while. The "people let Sirius rot and they will all pay for it in my bashing fic" crowd fall into those two holes and also the hole called "has literally no imagination for or grace to give to things that aren't explicitly stated in the text". Sirius, Remus, and other characters who were in the Order the first time all talk about how they were grossly outnumbered and there was an aura of mistrust because people knew someone was leaking secrets, but not who it was or if it was just one person. Once Sirius' seeming betrayal came out, it makes perfect sense that a ragtag group of adults whose trust in each other was already frayed were ready and willing to attribute all the other traitorous acts to this same person.

The key thing is what you pointed out so long ago: Sirius never tried to prove his innocence. We don't know if he had a trial or not, but at the end of the day that doesn't matter either. It's canon that Veritaserum doesn't force people to tell the absolute truth (this is a common misconception), just the truth as the person sees it, and people with skill in certain magical disciplines like Occlumency can lie under its effects. So the equally common argument in every damn fic of "wHY diDN't tHEy JUsT uSE vERITaSERum" doesn't work in-universe.

The same fandom members who are just SO SURE that if Sirius had had his day in court he would have been freed, forget that Sirius made no moves to proclaim his innocence before, during or after his pursuit of Peter in 1980. Just a quick word to literally anyone about what had happened with Peter and the Fidelius and where he was going might have saved Sirius jail time, and yet.....

It is possible to love Sirius and acknowledge that he has a ridiculous guilt complex and consistently fucks himself over with reckless actions throughout his life... but a lot of his fans don't seem to agree, and would rather make Albus or someone else his scapegoat.

There's a hypocrisy in a lot of these fanfics and meta conversations and inaccurate readings, where these people assume Albus wants to control every single person (he doesn't), and that he SHOULDN'T be responsible for everyone's welfare (he doesn't want to be, and isn't, except when operating as the leader of the Order with every adult character's consent to being "ordered around" and sent on dangerous missions). Albus was the Order's leader, but he's not anyone's parent. He had directions, he made suggestions, but he didn't know everyone's business or he would have known about the Fidelius switch. He wasn't responsible for minding every Order member.

The argument's even more ridiculous when you remember the Ministry employees that join the Order in the Second War. Do you ever see anyone arguing that Albus knows every detail of Kingsley Shacklebolt or Nymphadora Tonks' lives? That he controls everything they do and is responsible for any danger they get into, even though their day jobs are literally being the magical police for Magical Britain? No, because it's ridiculous.

C!Tommy’s ending isn’t what you think it was: An Essay

So, what do I mean by that? Well people who believe that c!Tommy forgave Dream or that it proved Dream’s are just, well, wrong. That’s not what happened.

I want to start with some meta about Tommy’s story. I think we all know by now that Tommy was greatly inspired by other pieces of media, specifically marvel and especially Spider-Man. Tommy’s finale is very reminiscent of a classic principle of heroes. The no kill rule. All of your classic heroes follow this rule, Batman, Superman, Captain America- Spider-Man. The idea of defeating your enemy and showing empathy and mercy is a very popular heroic trait in modern media. C!Tommy and C!Tubbo spent the last three streams reiterating this point over and over, they don’t want to hurt anyone, they don’t want to kill Dream but they believe there’s no other choice because Dream can’t be reasoned with. Or can he?

That is what the real question of the finale was, could Dream be reasoned with. Was he just human or the devil. Throughout the series Dream is dehumanized, for an understandable reason mind you, but dehumanized nonetheless. He’s called a devil, a monster, a villain. C!Quackity pretty much outright confirms this in his finale, with the propaganda slideshow, showing Dream as we hear the words “how to think like a human.” Implying that Dream is simply acting human, and not truly human. The point is, that c!Tommy viewed Dream as inhuman, even if he hadn’t fully realized that. So of course he believes Dream couldn’t be reasoned with, he’s the literal devil! Dream doesn’t not help his case by dehumanizing himself, calling himself a god, and evil. He does this to create fear, because to him, fear is power.

That brings us to the final culmination of the confrontation, Tommy is in limbo watching Dream just enjoying being with his friends. Being happy to just live his life day to day. Embracing all the mystery life has to offer. Tommy saw that Dream was human. When Tommy returns he is armed with this newfound realization and we see Tommy’s character arc come to a close as shows empathy, becoming a real hero in the process. C!Tommy did not forgive c!Dream. Or even excused his actions. He appealed to his humanity, he found that one remaining part of him that just wanted to have friends again. Who was terrified of being alone, just like Tommy.

C!Tommy and C!Dream have always been the archetypical Arch-Nemesis. Down to the we’re not so different you and I conversation. Dream was always doomed to fall by his own fear, he pushed away everyone to gain power so he could hold everyone together. His obsession with Tommy stemmed from his fear of loneliness, Tommy had people who loved him and he loved in return. Tommy was never alone unlike Dream who had no one. He hated Tommy. He wanted to be Tommy. He wanted to make Tommy feel just as alone as he did, which was why exile happened; but, Dream didn’t want to be alone and this obsession morphed into a sick form of kinship. Dream couldn’t lose Tommy because Tommy was all he had. The one person that wouldn’t leave him, who couldn’t leave him. No matter how far Tommy ran, in the end he’d always go back to Dream, because they were fated to always fight. Dream needed the discs so that Tommy would always have a reason to hate him, would always have a reason to come back to him. This, is c!Dream’s motivations. He is sickenly, pathetically human. Not a god or a devil. Just a person.

Tommy said he understood why Dream did what he did, cause he did. Tommy had lashed out because of loneliness before as well. That doesn’t mean he forgave Dream though. He was giving Dream a chance to be better. A chance to start again. He did this because Tommy is a hero, and like all the paragons of comic books spanning from DC to Marvel, he gave Dream a second chance. No forgiveness. No excusing his actions. Just the chance to be better. To be good. To be human.

Hi! I like the theories! It’s sad though when I a show could have had such great storylines and deep theories play out and instead…🤷‍♀️. I was looking at the story from Norman though w all the scar transfers, and the wrist box looks like it says Camille I think? I’m hoping the spin-offs pan out well. I guess I just don’t have the faith you do. Seeing the varying quality in writing over the seasons, how do you keep faith that the exec team will do all that justice and it wasn’t just overlap that’ll go half finished? I’ve seen varying reviews of gimple, mainly leaning negative though. I just don’t want to get my hopes up that they are actually capable of pulling off something so massive with the spin-off storylines when it seems so far off in comparison to TWD, at least to me, but I’m new to the fandom. I’ve also been severely let down by getting too deep in the past with fandoms. I’d love to see you do theories though not just relating to Beth, but other storylines in TWD. You’re really good at meta. Thanks for staying active for new fans!

Thank you! I keep faith mostly because there's so much evidence. It would be one thing if things were promised in Beth's story, and then they seemed to kill her off in Coda, and then we never heard or saw anything relating to those promises ever again. That truly might just be the writers changing their minds, as they did in S3, and going a different direction than originally planned.

But that's very far from what's happened.

Ever since Coda, there's had been tons and tons of evidence of her return. The symbolism has remained steady and 100% the same throughout the seasons. And once we learned to read the symbolism, we've been able to predict other story lines. (See THIS POST.) And if we're reading the symbolism correctly there, by definition we HAVE to be reading it correctly for Beth.

Outside the show, with comments various members of tptb have made, there has also been evidence. Like Nicotero being really weird about the fate of Grady, the tease about the missing 17 days, and the writers saying--mostly in response to nasty shippers--that they are going to tell the story they originally set up to tell [emphasis mine] no matter what different factions of the audience think.

The story they originally set up to tell with Daryl's love life, was Beth.

As for Gimple, I know there's a lot of negativity out there about him and his writing skills, but this is an internet troll thing. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course, but you have to understand that most of that negativity we see online comes from people who simply did not like the direction of the show. So, their favorite ship didn't go canon, or their favorite character was killed off. When that happens, they immediately take to the web and start ranting about how terrible a writer Gimple is. I got news for those people: just because the story HE is telling isn't the one YOU want to hear, doesn't make him a bad writer.

Furthermore, consider this: while of course the viewership has gone down some since S5, TWD and all it's shows are still one of the most popular and in-demand shows in the world. Trust me, if Gimple sucked at his job, that would NOT be the case.

So, in short, I don't blame anyone for lack of faith in her return. It has been a long time, and I totally get it. But the entire TWD universe ends, or we get a concrete "no" from the writers--which we've never gotten, btw--I will continue to hold out hope. And for now, that means looking forward to the spinoff.

Series Summary: You’re a fanfiction writer turned novelist, which was great since it was the path you wanted your writing to take you down in life. What you never thought would happen was meeting the Javier Gutierrez, who you actively write smutty fanfiction about from his film with Nic Cage, and you especially didn’t expect him to have a crush on you.

Fast forward several months of dating, with a good chunk of your relationship being distance due to his constant traveling and having to go home to Mallorca, when he surprises you with a prompt list and a vacation planned around exploring it.

You haven’t even worked up the nerve to tell him about what you write and post to Tumblr about him as a character yet.

There are feelings in this (I have no idea how they got there) and I may end up removing some possible chapters here and there depending on how I’m feeling, I apologize in advance if that happens because my brain is super mean sometimes.

It had been an emergency flight.

Javi had apologized profusely about interrupting but there had been some issues with the olive business back in Spain and the vendors were refusing to budge if Javi didn’t make an appearance, likely tied to Paulina and her brother but you had no clue since even Javi had been in the dark about any problems happening.

He left yesterday, after you two fucked like rabbits in his study, and you’d been writing notes and blurbs and tidbits of ideas for new fics or even new concepts for your novel series. The inspiration of this place, of this month, was unreal and you were glad you had prioritized time with Javi over everything.

Even notes in your phone had been unimportant compared to just being here with him.

But now that you’d had him at your side for so long, you lived with him and woke up with him, you missed him more. Which was stupid, you had him to yourself -basically- for three weeks and you couldn’t realistically be by his side every waking second of the day.

“I really am sorry-“

“Gabi, hey, I get it. You’re not to blame because the workers won’t talk to anyone except him, and I wouldn’t want you dealing with their continued attitude by refusing to contact him just so we could finish our trip out.”

“A vacation is meant to be a vacation, that is all, I wanted you both to have this.”

“I can speak for Javi when I say, we do appreciate it, truly. You have been a great friend, to both of us, and we know you only called because you had no other choice.”

“As soon as we are done I will get him back to you.”

“I know you will, and thank you for helping me with this. I hope he likes it.”

“Javi will love it, I promise you, I cannot wait to see his face.”

Your phone beeped and you glanced at the screen, your boyfriend’s cheeky grin captured on a picture taking up your screen.

“He’s calling now, thanks again.”

“Ah, anytime.”

Hearing Gabi’s excitement only amplified yours and you swapped over the call after carefully closing the drawer beside you, not wanting any chances for you to slip up that surprise before you were ready. Javi’s face was close to the screen when the video call connected and you couldn’t fight the giggle that left you.

“Cariño, you can’t teleport through the phone like that.”

“I wish I could, I should have brought you here, Solecita.”

“Javi we can’t be attached at the hips 24/7 no matter how much we want to be.”

“I miss you always but it is worse now that I’ve had you for so long without work obligations in our way.”

“I, uh, was looking over my contract with the publishing company. Gabi sent it to your employment lawyer to read over too… I can buy the rights to self-publish my existing novels and pay myself out of a legal obligation to stay where I am.”

“You mean… to move in with me?”

“Mhm, but only if you’re okay with that, I haven’t made a move yet because I wasn’t going to without consulting you first.”

“I was going to ask you what the legalities were with where you lived. I want you to live with me, even if you wanted me to downsize-“

“No, no, I had hang-ups in the past over the wealth imbalance but that was a me thing. You never once made me feel lesser because of it, that was my own mental block, trust me when I say that I won’t ask you to change a thing about who you are or what you have.”

“I love you, so much. I wish you were here, so I could show you everything. I want to see your face when I take you out on the boat the first time, when you see the pool and the cliffs… to sleep with you in my bed knowing that you won’t be across an ocean the next time I want to see you.”

His voice went soft and you set your laptop aside, watching his face as he looked away from you, and you couldn’t help but smile softly at him.

“Javi, I will need to handle the legal of things on my end but I’m- I am ready to move in with you. I took some time to just think and reflect, to talk with my therapist and my friends, and they reminded me that long distance or not there isn’t a set timeline for any relationship. That it’s okay for me to want everything even though it feels early.”

His eyes were round in disbelief for maybe half a second before he was crying, joyful tears with a smile that made you want to kiss him, and your own eyes welled over in response.

“I’ll let the staff know, do you want your own office for writing?”

“I would appreciate that, but you’re never barred from coming in okay?”

“That is- the same for you as well, even if I’m on a call, you’re welcome any time.”

Javi refused a phone tour, wanting to do one in person, and then he grinned in a way that was far from innocent.

“I am alone and have some time before I meet with the lead of staff, Solecita, if you were here I would encourage you to come sit in my lap.”

You couldn’t fight the thrill of excitement if you tried, adjusting how you were sitting in the bed, and it was a small blessing that the television stand at the end of the bed was there since you could prop your phone very easily into the groove and have both hands.

“Oh really, just to sit in your lap, or would you want me to be bare?”

He set his phone down with it propped up and you watched him lean back too, you couldn’t see much below the desk but you did know his hand was out of sight.

if the vampire academy show gets multiple seasons, i really hope it changes the direction of the rose/adrian relationship bc i can’t think of any good reason to write a show where a black woman is villainized and used as a plot device for her white oppressor's manpain. regardless of your personal feelings on rose or adrian, the concept of a narrative where the black heroine is put in a bad position at the end of her own story to set up more angst for her white ex-boyfriend is a bad choice, for both meta and story reasons.

wrt meta reasons why keeping things the same as spirit bound/last sacrifice is a bad idea, following the books faithfully would prob open the door to a lot of fandom antiblackness and sexism against rose as a character and sisi as an actor. rose is already an overhated character in book fandom and reviews bc of the rosdrian subplot, with many of the same people who don’t see an issue with adrian’s sexually harassing or objectifying rose calling rose an abuser, manipulator, gold-digger and a mix of sexist and racist slurs for not returning adrian’s feelings and/or for not being loyal to him. ofc this isn’t behavior that’s unique to adrian fandom bc all fandoms have sexism/racism problems, and i’m def not saying all adrian fans are anti-rose or that anyone is bad in any way for liking adrian. imo you can love/appreciate adrian as a character and still see that the va show is better off avoiding the books’ take on the rosdrian subplot. black characters- esp black women- always get more flack from fandom and their choices are judged more harshly, rose/sisi is already getting a lot of hate from racists who hate the show reality that rose hathaway is a black woman, and there’s no need to stoke the misogynoir flames even more by making rose “at fault” for how her dynamic with adrian plays out.

the show could write any number of new subplots where (assuming the show wants to keep the canon endgames intact):

(if adrian’s behavior is changed) adrian has unrequited feelings for rose for a while but they don’t actually date, he takes no for an answer after some flirting and his romance shifts to adrian/sydney once sydney takes a more active role in the plot

(if adrian’s behavior is changed) rosdrian date, but they do it in a casual, no-strings-attached way where they break up at some point before they get together with their endgames. there are no hard feelings between them

(if adrian’s behavior stays the same) rosdrian’s trajectory stays mostly the same but the breakup is abt rose getting some catharsis calling adrian out for objectifying her, which could kickstart adrian’s redemption arc. this option would prob be closest to canon, but rose gets a mini-arc that culminates in her standing up for herself against a royal who disrespected her and adrian realizes he needs to start acting better with women who are lower than him on the moroi social hierarchy, which would pay forward with adrian/sydney

this is just me floating a few options and i’d love to hear other ppl’s suggestions wrt how this subplot could go if y’all have any. but the most important point is: no matter what happens or how adrian is written, rose shouldn’t cheat on adrian and shouldn’t be written like the breakup is her fault, like she’s responsible for adrian’s feelings, or like she "owes” adrian a chance at any point. even if adrian is written like a legit nice guy and doesn’t coerce rose in the show, the main issue with the cheating plot is richelle m using rose as an “ex who broke his heart” plot device to give adrian more tragic backstory in a spinoff, without giving rose any of the detailed catharsis, recovery and healing she wrote for adrian in that new series. the va show, like the main series, is rose’s story, and it needs to stay rose’s story without sacrificing her character development or marring her hea so it can contrive more angst for a white supporting character.

Koun and Sora Meta stuff I sit on in my head.

Despite Koun being quite verbally assertive in general, he isn't verbally assertive during intimate moments for the most part. He also has issues being physically assertive in the beginning....but this is mostly because Sora is his first, and only love so far.

Koun will ALWAYS put Sora's health and well-being over his own. It doesn't matter what situation it is. What makes Sora happy will always win out over his own happiness. It is a fatal flaw.

On the above point, Koun knows that Sora is not used to anyone treating him gently. Sora is used to being used as a tool for pleasure, a weapon for destiny.....so Koun prioritizes treating Sora as a person first. He always takes the other's opinion into consideration, goes along with his whims, and holds Sora gently after moments of intimacy. Koun loves Sora as a person, for who he is, and he will repeat that as many times as Sora needs to hear.

Koun shares. He does not LIKE to share, but he's well aware of his shortcomings and issues in relationships. He only wants to make Sora happy, and knows sometimes he can't do that. He knows Sora doesn't like this part of him, but he's also terrified of not being enough for Sora which would cause the other to abandon him. So he keeps his mouth shut.

Koun absolutely loves to have contact. Sora will often find Koun's fingers tangled in his hair, or a hand on his shoulder. Once he was able to get over that fear of not being solid enough, Koun can't get enough. It's usually light touches, things that won't be in the way or bothersome.

Koun will never admit it to Sora, but every time Sora goes off for weeks on end, or they have an argument which causes Sora to storm off, Koun spirals mentally. It rarely gets to the point where it becomes outwardly noticeable for a normal person....but he does spiral.

Once Sora and Koun's relationship solidifies, Sora will be able to notice Koun's mental and physical state, due to being Koun's vessel. Koun can only tell Sora's physical state, due to injuries being reflected on him. (Injuries to Koun are NOT reflected on Sora.)

Koun adores their daughter, Hitomi. He also adores any of Sora's children. He is a very good father figure; being gentle but firm in decipline and making sure that they have everything they need. A stark contrast to Sora who is very hands-off in parenting. He will dote on any child handed to him.

When she is growing up, Koun loves dressing Hitomi up in very pretty clothing. He doesn't go all out a lot of time, but he definitely has a preference for long flowy styles and either pastel colors or deep blues.

Hitomi calls Sora Dad, and Koun Papa. Mainly because Sora is pretty hands off, and doesn't have as strong a relationship with her.

Hitomi ends up getting a rather interesting mixture of both Koun and Sora's personalities. She adopts the two's unhealthy habit of hiding their emotions behind masks. She's a spitfire at times, and much to Koun's displeasure, has adopted Sora's flirty behavior. He would have much preferred her to have a more gentle disposition.

When Hitomi dies, Koun does indeed have a massive spiral. At first, he attempts to hide his spiraling mentality from Sora, but ends up having a massive breakdown, which lasts for weeks. It takes years for him to get back to complete normalcy.

Sora decides to become and Idol and a Model, at the insistence of Koun who just wants Sora to do something that he enjoys.

-Modern worlds have a field day with Sora in both his Model and Idol industry jobs. It does not take long for him to rise in ranks and become a celebrity very quickly.

-Koun takes the time every moment he has alone with Sora to reaffirm that Sora is a person, not an object.

-Koun is at every Idol show that Sora takes part in. Some how he always has front row seats. He supports Sora completely, and often is seen with a backstage pass. No one but Sora knows how he gets these. This usually has to do with his illusionary power.

-In public, Koun is often seen wearing a hat or hoodie to hide his ears from cameras. Unless he's tired or in an uncaring mood. Then he just writes it off as eccentricity.

-The press has a field day with Koun due to the fact he has no records and does not talk to the press. He is always seen with Sora, who is a rising celebrity, and no one knows who he is. No one can figure it out. His loose fitting clothing and long hair also cause confusion, and it takes a while for the press to realize he's actually male. There are some headlines that circle through going "UPCOMING IDOL/MODEL'S GIRLFRIEND? BOYFRIEND? WHO IS THIS PERSON?"

-Once Sora gets enough money, he buys them a rather nice mansion. It is on the smaller side, but only at the insistence of Koun, who doesn't want to waste too much space. This allows Koun to indulge in smaller hobbies like instruments and gardening. Sora tries to get Koun to raise animals, but he declines.

-Koun ends up making his own mark on the celebrity world in two ways. The first way is that he becomes known as a mystery musician, playing in various areas randomly for tips. (At the insistence of Sora, who pushes him to pursue his hobbies). The other way is that he ends up cultivating a new species of Lily during his hobby as a gardner, which becomes highly sought after. He is never fully found by the press, they never know who he is....which adds to his status.

-When he finds out that the press is having a field day with his identity, he does nothing but laugh and tells sora to let them stew. He likes watching them squirm.
