i absolutely do NOT mind you asking abt the gradience, or any questions you may have for me ! the work itself is a bit tedious and hard,, but trust me. that gradient effect on any post is sooooo worth it. i’m gonna take you through what my process is, and in general how i play with the gradient text on my blog !!

.:☆*:･) FIRST (!!)— go to this site in the link.

this is my go to site for gradient text, and it’s pretty easy to maneuver. a lot of it is self explanatory, but i’ll go over it step by step !

put in any text you’d like— BUT, don’t put any font text. because the code for the gradient can’t read it, so that kinda sucks.

where the blue text is highlighted, you can select whichever effect you want. usually i pick three colored, or middle bc i like how those look the best.

i cannot for the life of me remember which colors i chose for daddy’s home— BUT, if it was that blue-silvery w/ the gold,, im gonna assume it was these hex codes. usually when i pick my three colors, i go from lightest to darkest and kinda play around with it till i think it looks how my mind pictured it to be.

the cool thing abt this too is that as you work with your colors, you also get a preview of what your hex codes would look like. so you can always look back and forth between the preview and the color wheel !

THEN, make sure you copy this ENTIRE thing. if you’re doing it on mobile i suggest you tap wherever and just hit ‘select all’ if it prompts you to do so.

.:☆*:･) SECOND (!!)— go to this site in the link.

then you’re gonna paste that whole big code you copied, and paste it into what should be an empty blue box. once it’s pasted, where it says ‘replace this’ put a semicolon(;) in there. and where it says ‘with this’, leave it blank. after you do that, hit replace text and then you’re good ! make sure you copy what’s left in that blue box, bc you’re gonna need it.

.:☆*:･) THIRD (!!)— this part is where you have to either be on your computer, OR if you’re using the mobile site,, set it to the desktop view. you’ll have to refresh your page after you change it, that way your post will be compatible with the coding.

whatever your post is gonna be, click the cog wheel at the top right corner aka your post settings. once you get there, you should see this. and once you see it, go to text editor and change it to html.

so then you just paste the coding into your post.

then voila !! you’ll see a preview of your text, and it should look like that exactly. thennn, you tweak it to your liking. and that’s how i made the gradient text for daddy’s home (^⩌^) !!

i wanna preface that this tut isn’t MINE. i learned a lot of this from the og, who i’m linking here just incase you need a more in-depth tut or i missed anything. like i said, it’s suppopeerrr tedious and long especially if you’re like me and you’re a perfectionist :’) ,, but it’s worth it !! it’ll make your posts look soooo much prettier and attractive !

Dark Coffee’s text color meaning

Normal text - normal. Nothing too serious. He uses this one most. Usually rather monotone. Can have meaning if combined with other colors, the colored word being filled with the most emotion.

Red - indicates his first boss. He doesn’t quite like this man, maybe one day he’ll be revealed. Who knows?

Orange - He’s not happy. He’s actually a bit angry. He is stern. He is ticked off. He doesn’t usually get mad, but when he does, it usually ends with an emotional spiral. He will sometimes use this when he’s ticked off and questioning himself, so it can sometimes be used with doubt, if that’s the case, it’s usually small and/ or slanted. That, or it just emphasizes a word. It’s a context thing really.

Green - Referring to his current boss. He quite likes working for his current boss. Usually in a happy post, as he likes his new boss.

Purple - usually small and can be in a different font. He’s not happy.. in fact, he’s afraid or sad. He shouldn’t use this one too often unless he’s in an emotional spiral.

Pink - oh boy he’s bloodthirsty.. he almost never is this way, but if he is, he could be dangerous. Best to calm him down or wait it out. He’s definitely not in his right mind.

Blue - not used yet, you’ll see when it is used, unless I quit this account, idk yet tho.

Yellow - not going to be used at all, or at least not often, as I am on mobile most of the time. No clue what I would use it for either.

USING TUPPERBOX (PT. 2)  ♡  hi again !  in this post, i’ll be going over the basics of using tupperbox as a member.  in other words... pov: u just joined a discord server & everyone’s setting up tupperbox while you feel a bit lost.  i’ll cover how to register a tupper,  how to use the tupperbox dashboard,  and give you some tips on making your tupper special.  let’s get into it !  please consider leaving a like or reblog if you found this helpful.

REGISTERING YOUR TUPPER.

presumably,  the server you’ve joined should have a channel allocated to registering tuppers.  it’s usually named something like ‘tupperbox’ or ‘tupper-reg’  —  so hopefully it’s easy to spot!

in that channel,  you’ll just want to type the following:

tul!register “muse name” (name) text

you’ll swap out the name parts for your muse’s name !  for the (name) part,  you have a few options.  this is what you’ll type before every message with your tupper,  so choose something convenient,  like:

you can also attach an image before you hit send — this will become your tupper’s avatar.

are you a visual learner?  i’ve got you covered!  this is what your message will look like all put together.  the purple shows that the image will be your avatar,  the blue is your tupper id & what your muse’s display name will be by default (within the quotations),  and the green will be what you type before every message you’d like to appear as your tupper.

here’s the results:  you’ll receive a default message from tupperbox if the tupper was created successfully & i always send a little test message to make sure everything came out how i wanted.

MAKING IT SPECIAL.

this is a completely optional section of the guide,  but i wanted to point out that tupper display names do allow you to use special fonts, symbols, and emojis.  you can also use transparent images for your icons.  here’s some of mine :D

i have a post with name format ideas here & a psd for simple icon templates here.

life hack:  if you want to use a special name but don’t want to type in a big long thing like tul!avatar “*     ──     𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒚  𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒔.” every time you want to swap icons,  make use of the tupperbox dashboard.  i’ll explain more below :D

TUPPERBOX DASHBOARD.

go to tupperbox.app —  that’s the official tupperbox site !  i’ll be linking it in the source.  click on ‘manage’ and authorize its permissions.  i can’t remember what it looks like when you first start but i will show you what mine looks like now & how i got it there.

i have groups sorted by server / verse / function.  just click the little plus sign and “add group” to get that!  (p.s. you can register tuppers through that button as well but i think it’s a little buggy so i never do!)

let’s revisit the tupper i created at the beginning of this post!  your most recent tuppers will appear at the bottom of the list in your ungrouped category.  this is what it looks like when i click on them before i make any edits to make her look ‘fancy’.

sticking with some colors before.  the blue is your tupper id,  which is what you’ll type each time you need a command.  (i.e.: tul!avatar tupper id)  if you don’t make any changes,  it’s also your display name.  the pink is your actual display name and can be changed to differ from the tupper id (shown below).  the green is still what you type before every message you’d like to appear as your tupper.  and the yellow is where you can click a drop down menu and assign them to a folder.

(p.s.  you can change your tupper avatar on this menu but sometimes it takes away the transparency of a png so i avoid that)

i mentioned above that you can make your life easier by this.  let’s say i want angelica’s display name to be a little fancier,  like “ˊ     *     𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒂.”  but,  i don’t want to type in ˊ     *     𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒂. every time i want to change an avatar—  trust me,  it’s a pain on mobile.  so,  i’d use the dashboard like this:

now,  i can just type “tul!avatar angelica pannata” but still have a pretty display name too!  like this:

p.s.  if you’re confused about how to send messages as your tupper,  just type:

you can send images with tuppers too!  it won’t work without text though.  i suggest using “_ _” (creates an italicized space with discord recognizes as blank text)

a mini tutorial on color correction !

please note: this guide will be very text heavy ! if you have any additional questions please feel free to ask me ! also every gifmaker has their own coloring style so everything i did for this gif was purely based on what i wanted to do for the coloring ! you can implement color correction into your own personal style ^^ 

1.) first identify what exactly you’d like to fix !

you’ll notice here i have pointed out shadows, midtones and highlights on the original video ! by identifying what you’d like to fix you can isolate these various aspects in photoshop in order to fix them ! i’ll be starting with the color balance adjustment layer :o ! you’ll notice that everything is saturated in purple lighting (magentas) 

2.) color balance is your bestie ! 

so you can probably see that purple lighting is the point of contention here (lol) with that in mind you can go to color balance and select either shadows, midtones, or highlights to start color correcting ! there’s really no set way to do this i usually just move the sliders around and eyeball it until i think it looks okay (or until i h8 it and i just wanna give up LMAO) 

- i started with shadows here ! bc the shadows had a more blue and purple tone i moved the sliders to the contrasting color (more yellow and green) to balance out these 

- you’ll notice i changed the most in midtones... skintones are usually warmer tones (reds and yellows) so increasing those in color balance in midtones will reintroduce some normal skintone colors you may need in order to fix saturated lighting 

- for highlights, i think this is just personal preference, but i really like cool tones for highlights ! bc i like natural white light (similar to outdoor lighting) i tend to lean highlights over to cyans... but a note: this might overexpose and wash out the gif so adjust accordingly ! here i added purple and yellow highlights as well 

3.) hue/saturation is your bestie too

i don’t have a visual for this but in the hue/saturation adjustment layer you can isolate certain colors and adjust those colors individually ! for example in this gif i selected magentas in the drop down menu, then using the “hue” slider, adjusted magentas over to red tones ! (this is bc natural skintones are again more red than purple) and i usually do this color isolation in most my colorings ! you can select for cool tones and adjust them all to one color quite easily with the hue slider ^^ bc i have a deep rooted h8red for yellow tones i usually use hue/sat to adjust them over to orange / red tones ! 

4.) selective color is my bestie PLS

selective color is another way to isolate and adjust a specific group of colors ! for this coloring, bc there was so much magenta i lowered the magenta slider and increased the yellow slider in the “reds” tab (for skintone purposes ^^) 

now you’ll notice that the magentas have almost all been adjusted over to red ! with that the purple lighting is gone ! what i did from here were additional adjustments: color balance - to correct highlights bc you can see that the highlights are too red ! by leaning over to cyans in color balance for highlights the lighting becomes more neutral than pink / red

then a hue/sat adjustment to turn down the saturation of the reds... reds look much more saturated on mobile than they appear on my desktop so usually i turn down saturation of reds by about -10 in hue/sat and then:

and that’s about it ! :o i usually turn down contrast and fix lighting as needed but for color correcting this is usually my process ! things are always a bit different for each gifmaker but i hope this was a little bit helpful for anyone looking to color correct some bad stage lighting ! if you read all of this thanks a bunch ^^ and i wish you a wonderful rest of your week :] if you have any other questions feel free to dm me or send an ask :o !

My TFP Humanformers Headcanons: With Pictures This Time

In my defence, I studied fashion at university level for two years, so this post was inevitable.

Optimus Prime - James Dean Style, aka “Hot Dad” 

Optimus would probably love doing the research to determine human styles and what he likes best. 

I can picture him doing a 1950s inspired look, more Greaser than stuffy suits, but in a more James Dean way and not John Travolta in Grease kind of way if he needed to go undercover as Jack’s dad or something.

He’d be a bit older than James Dean was in the above photo, definitely in his 30s at the youngest. Would still have silver mixed in with his black hair, to replicate the silver details on his helm. He doesn’t smoke, but might chew on a pen cap every now and then without thinking about it. 

Ultra Magnus - Vittorio de Sica - Classic Italian Suit Chic

When doing research into human styles, Optimus showed him a Hermes magazine and some European business style guides from GQ and decided he liked the formal suit look. I imagine he’d have a very Italian look to him, as he might be wearing an Italian or Continental style suit. 

For some reason, Magnus as a 40 or 50 year old stern and stylish Italian guy just works really well. He’d be extremely well dressed, well groomed, would still demand authority, and I imagine him looking like Vittorio de Sica, pictured above. 

He would perhaps use his holoform to accompany Fowler in discussions with some military superiors.

Initially, he wanted to pick a military style uniform for his holoform, and Fowler had to explain to him in detail why that wasn’t an acceptable thing to do. So he went for chic lawyer instead.

Ratchet - Old War Vet + What He Thinks is Nevada Style: George Gabby Hayes

Ratchet would literally just be my dad or any of his old war buddies, possibly with a mobility aid like a cane or walking stick because that seems to be very popular amongst my dad and his friends. (To quote my father: “I can walk with it and I can beat people with it, so it works fine for me, don’t touch me dammit I can get up by myself.”) 

I get the feeling he’d approach designing his holoform from a logical angle, wanting to fit in with the locals to avoid detection. Unfortunately, this meant he found a bunch of old Western movies online when looking up style inspiration, and decided that this was probably the best look to go for since all these movies were filmed in Nevada, so surely this would be familiar to people, right? (Wrong.) 

He’d be tough and wrinkly, but give those precious old man smiles with big twinkling eyes that shine so brightly against his old weathered skin, and that alone would get him get out of trouble with the authorities-- Or helps him get the others out of trouble. He would play the “I’m just an old person, what do you want from me” card and he would succeed. Then he’d turn around and get mad that everyone treats him like he’s old, lmao.

Arcee - Tori Amos: Late 1990s/2000s Casual 

Arcee would go for 20s-30s in terms of age, motorcyclist, we already see this on screen every now and then. I think they would estimate for approximate human age relative to one another’s Cybertronian age, so this works as Arcee seems to be younger than the rest. 

I picture her outside of her motorcycle gear in a very late 90s/early 2000s style look, casual but stylish. It would throw people off because she’s so much mature than what people might assume, which gives her an edge in conversation.

Her cover story could be that she’s Jack’s cousin, or maybe a friend of his mom’s, depending on what the mission/situation is. Could also possibly say that she’s one of Jack’s co-workers if need be. She’d probably redesign her holoform to have red hair just to troll Jack (the classmate he has a crush on is a redhead). 

Bulkhead - Mark Sagato + 1990s Alt Rock Gear 

I can easily picture Bulkhead’s holoform looking similar to Mark Sagato, pictured above, who is a former Sumo wrestler and a film actor. 

He’d be rocking a green cargo jacket layered with a plaid flannel shirt over a plain white tee or a band t-shirt and blue jeans with black steel toe boots, possibly with a workman’s tool belt. His cover story could be that he’s Miko’s uncle visiting from Japan! 

I imagine a very casual 90s alternative rock meets almost-lumberjack look for him, to match Miko a bit. He’d probably have some ribbon wristbands from live shows/gigs up his arm, because Miko would absolutely encourage accessorising.

Wheeljack - Billy Idol + Specifically Grunge Punk 

Wheeljack would be every single old school dude in the grunge punk scene that I’ve ever met. He’d look like an older Billy Idol, but only if you imagine what that would look like, not like, the actually currently old Billy Idol. 

Older guy, skinny but tough, jean jacket covered in patches and buttons and pins, black jeans held together with random string sewn in like embroidery thread, a pair of Converse so old that they might be from the 70s original line. Grey bandana also covered in pins around his head and another around his neck. He would also have ribbon wristbands from shows, courtesy of Miko’s style advice.

Bumblebee - Fred Olande: 1995 Was a Great Year for Skateboarding

Bumblebee would be a young guy, maybe even late teens/early 20s, massively baggy yellow hoodie with a black jean vest over the top like a lot of young guys wore in the 90s back when I wasn’t a dinosaur myself. Jeans that are pale from being worn/washed too many times, threadbare around the knees, wearing some kind of skateboarding shoe. I imagine him wearing a beanie as well. Every pocket is full of graffiti pens for the skatepark and his phone screen is cracked.

Raf would help him with his holoform details, and I can picture him basing his look off of some of Raf’s family photos, so he’d definitely be Mexican/Latinx. His cover story could be that he’s Raf’s cousin visiting from a border town or Mexico, and his excuse for not speaking would simply be that he doesn’t know that much English, so that would work out perfectly.

Smokescreen - 1970s/1980s Sports Gear Forever 

Smokescreen would inevitably try to go for a 1970s/80s movie inspired sporty look, and would probably look to be about in his late teens/early 20s.

Think classic white Nikes, very sporty 80s style with a white and blue puffy jacket (or sweat shirt) and red fabric wristbands. If anyone has a mullet or a feathered hair style, it’s gonna be Smokescreen. His tank top is Adidas, and his sweatpants are also Adidas.

Unfortunately, he then discovers that shorts exist, and cycles between the classic Butterick patterns above, depending on the mission/who he is trying to impress that day. 

(I won’t lie, I did the shorts over sweatpants thing well into the 90s. Yes, I was made fun of.)

hi!!! i am making this tutorial for the anon who asked me how i coloured this set. so here is a short tutorial on the adjustment layers i used to achieve this look. as you can see, the way i coloured this set is very basic… but i do hope that this will help you colour your own gifs. also, you can download the psd i made here if you would like and apply the colouring to your own gifs/adjust each layer to suit the colours in your original gif. the tutorial is under the read more link. works best on the desktop!!! (idk why it turned out all over the place on mobile)

so before i start the tutorial i am assuming you have already made your gif and ps is open… anyway let’s start!!!

1. as you can see from my gif, the colouring style i use tends to ‘darken’ the colours in the gif. performances tend to have grainy backgrounds so darkening the gifs can make the gifs look cleaner in a way too (apart from using denoise and such). to achieve this, i start with selective colour. this layer can strengthen certain colours that you want in the gif… and can do the opposite as well. it’s hard to explain it in text but once you open the layer you can play around with each of the sliders and you’ll see what i mean. in this set, i used the neutrals and blacks setting to make the darker colours even darker. these are my settings for this gif:

but play around with it and the other colours!!! trial and error is really the best way to see what each setting does so i recommend you play around with this adjustment layer and see what it does to the colours in your gif. for skin colour, i use the reds and yellows setting too to make the skin stand out. for this gif, i stuck to neutrals and blacks only as each gif i used for my set had different colours and i wanted to make the colouring as cohesive as possible.

2. i darken the gif further by using curves. this layer is good when you want to darken a scene but you can also lighten a scene without making the scene too bright (if that makes sense?). it’s really useful for darker scenes where you want the person to stand out from the background. but for this gif, i used it to darken the colours. these are my settings for this gif:

if you pull the little square in the middle down, the scene will turn darker. and if you pull the square above the line, it’ll become brighter. also you can make more than one point on the graph.

3. the next layer i use is levels. so like with curves, this can make your gif darker or lighter depending on where you drag the arrow. i wanted to darken the gif so i drag the arrow to the right. these are the settings for my gif:

the most i really go is 0.95 because i don’t want it too dark.

4. the next layer i use is black and white. it turns the gif black and white… like the title suggests but this layer changes the colour depending on the blending mode you use for your gif. once you choose the blending mode, you change the opacity of the layer to change how intense you want the colours to look. for this gif, i used the soft light and colour burn blending options and changed the opacity for each one. these are the settings for my gif:

soft light kind of intensifies the colours and darkens the scene. colour burn also darkens the scenes. try our the other blending options too and see how it affects the colours on the gif. you can use lighten or screen to make the gif brighter… increase opacity if you want the effect of the blending option to be greater.

5. the next layer i use is brightness/contrast. this layer basically does just that… it can affect the brightness and the contrast of the scene. i tend to decrease brightness and increase the contrast to make the scene darken and intensity the colours. these are the settings for my gif:

i am making subtle changes because the gif is already dark. but see how this will look on your gif.

6. the next layer i used is vibrance. this makes the colours more vibrant like the layer title suggests… i slide the arrows to the right to increase the vibrance. these are the settings for my gif:

if you slide to the left, it’ll give the scene a more desaturated look.

7. the next layer i use is hue/saturation. it gives the colours a more vibrant look. this layer can also make certain colours stand out more than others. these are the settings for my gif:

it’s only subtle here because the colours are already quite vibrant. but you can adjust it so certain colours look washed out or brighter. use the drop down menu on master to change colours.

8. the next layer i use is exposure. this layer is good for giving the scene a darker overlay. and for giving the scene a kind of a translucent effect. it’s like a little bit of brightness but not really… it makes more sense if you play around with it and see how it affects the scene. these are the settings for my gif:

so i decrease the offset and increase it… it kind of makes the scene brighter without making it overly brighter.

9. so by the end of it your gif should look something like this with these settings:

i hope this was easy to follow and that my explanations made some kind of sense… sorry if it doesn’t i’m not really good at wording things. but i hope you understand the general idea of what the adjustment layers do. my advice is to play around with each adjustment layer, including the ones i didn’t mention, and see how it affects your gif. it’s really all about trial and error. performance gifs can be tricky in that the background can be noisy and the colours are all over the place but see how you go with these settings. if you would like a tutorial for a specific performance i have giffed, let me know and i can remake it and give you the settings. (here’s an example of how i coloured the same scene differently:

buckle up folks this is gonna be long bc min. character limit uni papers thought me a lot of things but def not how to be concise 

01. planning

this was a long time ago but i do remember wanting to make something with overlays bc quite honestly i started working on this way too late and it seemed the fastest lmao. jokes on me i had 2 failed attempts and this also went through some changes along the way. initially i wanted to combine dye, bol and present:you... them being my fave eras for this lovable dumb man. so it would’ve been one pair for each gif.

02. creating

picking footage

so onto creating,, first things first the concept had to be changed bc present:you only had light shots so that had to be removed rip, here you can see a failed attempt at me trying to include it. this was before i started making proof on concepts for gifsets which later on saved me so much time... but not this time

once i accepted defeat i had to reshuffle the shots and add some new ones but it was all good i was not losing braincells at all. so onto the real gifs, gonna show you the red one bc that’s my fave of the three. 

making the base

btw i’m always working with timelines and smart objects bc it feels way easier than frames. so here we started with this jaebeom, and since the background and his hair it’s pretty dark those will be the parts which will be covered with the next gif. i made it black and white and also adjusted the levels a bit to make it a bit softer (lowered the whites and lightened the blacks)

for aesthetic purposes i always go for one close shot and one wider shot, then literally all i did was add the other gif on top, and set it to lighten. okay this is it that’s the whole process bye. oh we need the rest too? okay okay. so btw for a while i was considering making both of them coloured but then bw looked better when having all three gifs under each other, felt more like a ‘set’

now for this gif in particular i did not need to mask anything, shocking, but for the others i had to either blend the edges or make the bottom layer darker at some places to let the top layer show up a bit more e.g. for the second gif i needed a tiny blending like so (it’s the layer 1 copy 3 lmao)

making the overlay bits

then we are basically done with the main part of the gifs, obviously i applied colouring to each inside the smart object. but i always like to add something extra on top which are usually two things: 1.) full overlay gif something blurred (literally any kind of footage.. i used leaves, water, space renders etc. so far), or a light leak, oooor a bokeh effect whatever and just keep it subtle. and 2.) some smaller moving bits which are usually sparkles, dust, stars, galaxy stuff etc. u get the idea. for the above gif this happens to be Layer 1 copy 2 rip. also in this case this overlay is actually this jaebeom footage blurred and with some colouring added on top of it to have this redish brassy tone (not me forgetting about this completely lmao) obviously it’s zoomed in and i’m using the top left part of the video blurred. look at me explaining my chosen gif with another gifs gahd i’m bad at this. anyways it just goes to show i use practially anything i can think of and just blur it. 

for the full overlay footage i either go black and white and set it to overlay or soft light, whatever works best, or go coloured and set it to lighten again.... whatever blending mode works best. for this specific 2nd gif i went with lighten. for the smaller moving bits same tbh i just adjust the levels/curves to only show the bits i need when it’s set to lighten, i.e. i make its background more black so it won’t make the gif hazy. 

 adding the text

so anyways i add those on top so it’s not boring anymore,, practically just concealing the fact that all i‘ve really done was adding a gif on top of another and set it to lighten rip. oh yeah we have the text layers, nothing fancy here: for the script i used Challenge and the serif is FogtwoNo5. For the script i sampled some red from the background and just set it to overlay, and for the serif i just went with full caps adding some extra kerning bc one: for full caps you always need that, not this much lol, and two: it just looks better okay. 

last touches

then i added a levels adjustment layer because i felt the gifs were a bit brighter than i wanted, so we ended up with this

oh my gahd we are almost theeeere, for saving gifs here are my settings, i did not have to tell photoshop which colours to use luckily so it was an easy process.

03. posting

eeehmmm posting... yeah nothing exciting? i just save it in my drafts check it on mobile, and if something is really messed up i’ll change some colouring and saving settings, but this was a fairly ‘easy’ gif for tumblr to compress decently so none of that.

I realized that I need you, and I wondered if I could come home 

It ended up bring a surprise visit. With the lockdowns continuing through most of the year, Aziraphale had been stubbornly dedicated to leading by example and had refused Crowley on several occasions when he’d offered to keep him company. It was the right decision, Crowley supposed. While neither angel nor demon could get sick or transmit it to others, humans were always looking for a loophole to skirt the rules and, although Crowley would usually go out of his way to encourage them, this was starting to remind him all too much of his least favorite centuries so he didn’t push too hard.

The other benefit, was that the distance pushed Aziraphale to actually use the mobile Crowley had bought him months before all hell (side eye heavily implied) broke loose, which allowed them to communicate almost constantly. As it turns out, alcohol and texting really can be revealing and they’d continued to move, albeit at a glacial pace, towards something more.

This is all, however, a moot point because Crowley woke up on the 31st of December and immediately thought, “Ah, fuck it.” He donned his mask (not that he needs it, but it sets a good example and is a solid Look™) and drove on over to Soho to surprise an angel.

When he knocked at the bookshop door, he could already feel the air of displeasure coming from inside. He smirked, only visible by the crinkling at the corner of one eye. Lockdowns had allowed Aziraphale’s already shoddy business hours to become almost nonexistent, something the angel had nearly unbridled joy for.

When the door opened, he had to rein in actual tears of relief. He knew he missed Aziraphale something fierce, but actually seeing him made the wreck of Crowley’s heart swell and squeeze in a way he wasn’t used to.

Donning a pearlescent white mask that was very likely not of this world in origin, storm blue eyes connected with his and Crowley was warmed through to see the same, lovely, overwhelmed feeling mirrored back to him.

“My dear,” Aziraphale had whispered, looking Crowley over, “what are you doing here? It isn’t safe!”

Crowley, tired of waiting on the step while they goggled at each other, pushed inside while Aziraphale closed the door, locking it for good measure. “Well hello to you too, angel. Long time, no see.”

He snapped his fingers to place his mask in a pocket universe (he’s a bit embarrassed to admit that his earthly pockets wouldn’t exactly hold much more than his fingertips) and took care of Aziraphale’s as well.

“Crowley, we discussed this! I miss you terribly, of course I do, but we can’t just go breaking the rules willy-nilly!”

A year ago Crowley would’ve rolled his eyes at “willy-nilly”, but right now? Well, right now he’s so entranced he can’t breathe, never mind scoff.

“Angel-” He breaks off because there’s so much he wants to say, but Aziraphale is beautiful. He’s known it since Eden, but this is the longest they’ve gone without seeing each other in quite some time and he’s obsessing over the few extra inches of white blonde curls, not to mention the couple of extra inches on well-fed hips (courtesy of quarantine baking and fewer walks in parks, and for that Crowley would just like to say thank you), that are both likely to send Crowley into hysterics if he thinks about them too long.

“M’sorry angel, I just-” he sighs, “I know it’s wrong I just couldn’t wait longer. I can go, if you’d like.” He looks down, he’s not as sure that Aziraphale will kick him out as he once had been, but that doesn’t mean that he wants to watch it happen.

What he misses, is the very obvious once-over Aziraphale gives to his messy, much longer, curls and the longing look that speaks to ages of desire to cross those last few feet between them.

“Nonsense, my dear. You’re right, we cannot make this worse and you took precautions.” Crowley lifts his eyes to meet Aziraphale’s and is met with a brilliant smile. “And, of course, I am so happy to see you dearest.”

Dearest. Aziraphale called him that sometimes via text but this is the first time he’d heard it out loud. He was more attached to it than he’d like to examine.

“Well, in that case, I believe the humans have a tradition on this day that involves both day drinking and regular drinking.” He miracles a few choice vintages and a lovely bottle of Whispering Angel, because he’s still an arsehole sometimes, onto the table in the back room.

“If it’s tradition I suppose we must.” Aziraphale says with a smirk that’s not angelic at all.

Perhaps, Crowley thinks as Aziraphale leads him back to the squashy, infernally comfortable couch in the back room, this year may just end better than it started.

It’s been hours. They made it through Crowley’s initial bottles and have moved on decidedly to Aziraphale’s own, not inconsiderable, reserves. They’re encroaching on drunken territory they haven’t traversed since Armageddon first fell on their radar but this time, it’s so much better.

They’re laughing wildly while Aziraphale recounts, with requisite demonstrations, how he learned the gavotte and Crowley’s laughing so hard that his stomach hurts. He’s warm, and they’re safe together, and Aziraphale has a lovely blush high on his cheeks and Crowley’s sure he has the same, and he can’t remember being this happy for a long, long time.

“And, and-,” the angel trails off for a moment, “I couldn’t quite remember which way to turn,” he pantomimes turning in a graceless circle, “so I just, well, I rather tumbled directly into a bookshelf and realized I’d imbibed a bit too much.”

He looks at Crowley pointedly while he tries to smother a cackle. “You know, it’s not entirely dissimilar to now. I fear I’m quite completely rat-arsed.”

Crowley’s control breaks and he laughs loud and long while Aziraphale blushes more and then joins him, because they’re both completely arseholed and they have been during every century since the Beginning.

A glance at the clock shows it’s only a short time until the clock ticks over into the next year and a pit forms in Crowley’s stomach. He doesn’t want to lose this easy camaraderie and the soft love he’s feeling (it is love, he’s known it for a long time, and has accepted it for long enough) and he isn’t sure if he’ll be permitted to stay. There’s also a part of him that, for several decades now, has dreamed about employing another human tradition surrounding New Year’s Eve, but he’s even less sure of its welcome.

Aziraphale catches his eyeline and looks towards the old grandfather clock, obviously seeing the change is Crowley’s bright disposition.

“Not long now, it would seem.” He says quietly.

“Not long at all and we’ll be singing Auld Lang Syne and bidd-”, Crowley stops, his throat choking up.

“And what, dear?” Aziraphale thinks he knows where this was headed. Thinks he knows that the complicated string of emotions is on Crowley’s beloved face. He thinks he might just see everything he wants in arms reach of taking.

Crowley’s eyes are fully yellow, goldenrod and gorgeous, dark with drink or something more when he looks up to meet Aziraphale’s own. “I-, angel. Would I, ngk, what would you say if I stayed for a bit? Kept you company?”

He drops his head down again. Aziraphale hates that he looks like he’s bracing for bad news. Perhaps he has not done as well as he thought in letting Crowley know that the door was wide open now. Frankly off its hinges. Perhaps it’s time for extraordinary measures.He closes the distance between them, sitting next to the demon on the couch.

“Dearest, I think I’d like nothing more.” He reaches out and cups Crowley’s sharp jaw, tilting his head so that he can look into those stunning eyes again. He runs his thumb along his cheekbone and hears the sharp inhale.

This is the most skin-to-skin contact they’ve had since the Roman baths (there was an awkward side hug at one point that Crowley thought may actually discorporate him). But now, the simple contact of those soft, plump fingers on his jaw and his cheek are about to send him to his maker.

“Angel,” he reaches up and lays his hand over Aziraphale’s. Little to their knowledge, they’ve begun a countdown all their own. “are you sure?”

“I’m positive darling. Let me show you.” Aziraphale responds, allowing his thump to dip and run along Crowley’s luscious bottom lip. “Can I show you?”

“Please, angel”, Crowley nearly sobs and kind, giving, gracious Aziraphale takes a brief inhale of his own before laying his lips against the demon’s.

Crowley’s never really done this before. Sure there were humans here and there that thought to lay one on him, but he’s never taken the time to think about it. Why are lips so bloody sensitive? He thinks before he stops possessing higher order functioning and has only a mind to get Aziraphale closer, right the fuck now.

He reaches out and drags his hands down Aziraphale’s arms (both angelic hands now buried in his hair), delighting at the honest to God whimper he gets in response, and lets one hand tangle in ice blonde curls longer than he’s ever seen them, and lets the other drift from shoulder to waist, and finally to land on an ample hip that fits so perfectly into his hand that he thinks he might cry.

Their lips refuse to part and before long it’s gone from gently exploratory, to open and hot, tongues running along lips, tangling together, allowing them to taste each other for the first time.

They break apart briefly, speaking so close that each word is a sweet caress on the other’s lips; a placeholder while they work out their thoughts.

Aziraphale takes it upon himself to take the plunge here too, “I love you. I have loved you for so long that I don’t know what it is not to love you. I fear I was quiet for too long, but I will no longer abide. I will tell you I love you each time I think about how much I love you, until you’re sick to death of hearing it.”

While breathing is an option for both, Crowley is nearly hyperventilating. He thought, perhaps, Aziraphale may think of trying something with him. May even want to try out some more, erm, intimate, acts with him as the angel is always in such a rage for pleasure. But he never guessed that the haunting, creation-long devotion he felt would be reciprocated in the same way.

“Oh angel, I love you. I met you on the wall of Eden and thought ‘Oh, what’s that in my chest?’ and realized they didn’t take my heart when I Fell. I’m yours, if you’ll have me, if you’ll be mine as well.”

“Dearest, I’ve been yours for some time now.” And then words really aren’t important any more as Crowley lunges, pushing Aziraphale back into the squashy couch and running his hands over his coveted softness while angelic hands map his neck and his back and, Christ, his arse.

While the world nervously looks to a new year for peace and solice, two celestial beings have found it, at long last, right at home.

gifmaking tutorial

As requested, here's a tutorial on how I make my gifs. Everyone's process is a little different, and mine changes from time to time, so it'll take some experimenting to find the settings that you like best. I’ll also link this tutorial here by Em, who is way more thorough than I’ll probably be, so check that out! The tutorial will be found in the read more below (apologies if it doesn’t work on mobile - this is a screenshot heavy piece of text).

My process uses Vapoursynth and Photoshop CS5 (I’m ancient I know!!). Avisynth is also another popular option if you already have that, but it’s been a while since I’ve used it. After the frames have been loaded into Photoshop, I then sharpen and colour my gifs before exporting. Some people will also use Topaz to clean up their gifs, but unfortunately that does not work well on my laptop. I use a Windows computer, so things may look slightly different if you’re using a Mac. 

STEP ONE  ⤅ Downloading your video 

To start off, find the highest quality possible of the video that you want to gif from. If it’s a stage, I highly recommend using ts files, which are much better quality than the versions you’ll find on Youtube. Ts files can be found on a variety of website such as 4sashi, kpop24hours (requires membership) and on Twitter. Here is an additional resource for finding ts files and downloading videos. For non-stages, 1080p will work best, though 2k and 4k are absolutely lovely and I would highly recommend those if they’re available. 

STEP TWO ⤅ Run your video through Vapoursynth 

You can install Vapoursynth following this tutorial. Vapousynth is essentially a program that will crop and compress your video files without losing any quality. It also has built-in sharpen and denoise functions that can take over the functions of Topaz. 

To start the process, you’ll drag your video onto the vapourscript and see a pop-up from Command Prompt. It will prompt you to enter two numbers: the first is the timestamp on the video for the start time for your gif (mine was at 3 min, 27 seconds). After pressing enter, it will then prompt you to enter the duration of the moment you want to gif (mine is 3 seconds). If you’re using Avisynth, the second prompt will be the second time stop (when you want the moment to end). I find that sometimes adding an extra second will help me capture the entire moment, but it’s up to your own discretion. 

Once you press enter a third time, the command prompt will run and then a pop-up will appear on your browser. You can then adjust several settings, including gif size, preprocessor, denoise filters and sharpening. There’s a lot of freedom here to choose what you’d like to do. 

In terms of gif size, you can pick any height that you think looks good but the widths that are optimized on Tumblr go as follows: 

1 gif per row: 540px width

2 gifs per row: 268px width (I tend to use the default 350px for height when making these)

3 gifs per row: 178px width (it’s funky here because the middle gif is 178px while the two on the side are 177px each, so you have to crop off a pixel later)

For the purposes of this tutorial, I’ll be making 178px gifs. The next option is preprocessor. This option will alter how the video renders. There are two main options - 30 or 60 - and this will refer the number of frames per second you’ll obtain. For live performance gifs, qtgmc 60 slow is generally the option I choose as it gives better quality frames (especially with a lot of movement) but you may find that qtgmc 30 slow is sufficient. For non ts files, I typically do not use any preprocessor settings. 

Most of the time, I don’t use denoise or sharpening filters as I prefer to do my sharpening and denoise in Photoshop. When I do choose to use denoise and sharpening, these are the settings I use. I don’t have a particular reason, but just that I like the way the gifs look. You can experiment with the settings to see what you like, and it can also vary with the gif. 

The difference between having those sharpening/denoise settings vs. doing it in Photoshop vs. no sharpening/denoise can also be seen with the three gifs below (note that I've coloured them, which we’ll get into a bit later). As you can probably tell, there’s not a HUGE difference in quality between the three because ts files tend to be already be very high quality but I would always recommend sharpening as it can make a very big difference in the quality of your gifs! 

After choosing the settings you want, you’ll then paste them into the VapouSynth Editor (which should’ve automatically popped up at the same time as the browser setting adjuster). For the purposes of this tutorial, I have chosen not to sharpen and denoise. You will copy paste the code from the browser (found at the right side) into the editor. My code was 4 lines and goes in between the code from the 11th line and 22nd line (yours should as well, though the line numbers may not match up - just make sure they say the same thing!) 

You’ll then want to hover on the script on the top bar and click on “Encode video”.

Once you click encode video, another box will pop up. Here, you’ll want to make one adjustment (shown in purple), before pressing start. At the header bar, you’ll want to exchange the preset “No header” for the Y4M option. After you’ve done that, you can press start found below (also highlighted in purple).

Congrats! You’ve finally finished processing your video!

STEP THREE ⤅ Make the gif in Photoshop

To important the frames into Photoshop, you’ll click File (top bar) > import > video frames to layers. Your output file from vapousynth should be found in the VapourSynth64Portable folder (based on where you first saved it) > gifs > output. Finally, click on the output.mov file to select it. You will then get a pop-up that looks like the following. I always keep these settings, though sometimes people will use limit to every 2 frames, but I find that will make your gifs look choppy. 

Based on the way your Photoshop layout is set up, the following steps may be found in different places than they’re found on my screen. You’ll want to have animation turned on (can be turned on under the windows dropdown menu, and just click on animation to turn on the frame view). If your bar is on the bottom of the screen, in the bottom right corner, you should press on the button (convert to timeline animation). I’ve highlighted the button in blue. 

After converting to timeline, I select all the frames in the layers window (can also be turned on in the windows dropdown menu and selecting layers). Then, right click and and press convert to smart object. This will turn all your layers into a single object so you can edit all the layers at once rather than having to edit each layer separately. 

After your smart object is created, I like to sharpen. I have an action, but to recreate the same effect, you will need to (1) duplicate the smart object (right click on the smart object > duplicate layer) (2) smart sharpen both smart objects with the following settings and then (3) put a gaussian blur only on the top layer with 1.0px. Both smart sharpen and gaussian blur can be found under the filter dropdown menu (filter > sharpen > smart sharpen or filter > blur > gaussian blur). 

Depending on the quality of the video, if I find the sharpening too strong, I will sometimes change the radius to 0.3 or 0.2 (a higher number = more sharpening). Finally, set the top layer to 50% opacity (I go anywhere from 35% to 50% depending on how “soft” I want the sharpening to look. A higher opacity for the top layer will create a softer look). When I finish this step, my layers will usually look like this. And good news: your basic gif is done!

STEP FOUR ⤅ Colouring 

Before you save the gif, you may want to colour the gif to make the colours look the way you want. This step is super subjective and every CC will colour differently - it’s why it’s so fun to see multiple sets of the same moment giffed, because each CC will colour a little differently! 

I’m not a colouring expert at all, but I’ll put a basic skeleton of the way I colour below and show you the difference between no colouring, a basic colouring, and a more complex colouring. Another fun thing about colouring is that it can also make your gif look much sharper and higher quality depending on what you do. 

To access the possibilities for colouring, you’ll want to go the adjustments window (once again can be accessed in the window dropdown menu and selecting adjustments). As you can tell, there’s a ton of adjustment options, which may seem overwhelming. You should definitely experiment to find that looks best to you! I usually go in the following order: curves (red), colour balance (orange), hue/saturation (yellow), selective colour (green), levels (blue) and finally exposure (purple). I won’t attempt to explain what each one does (there’s tons of tutorials out there!), but note that sometimes you’ll want to use an adjustment more than once to get the effect you desire. Layering of multiple of these adjustment layers is what will create a more complex colouring that you will find you like more. I also haven’t mentioned some of the other options, but definitely explore them all to figure out what you like!

STEP FIVE⤅ Saving your gif!

We finally made it to the end! To save your gif, head into the file dropdown menu and select save for web and devices. There’s a lot settings you can fiddle around with here in order to save the best possible gif, but these are typically the settings I go with. The most important to note in the top right corner with selective and pattern selected (play around with those as you may find that the other settings will look better based on the gif!). Also make sure colors is at 256 (maximum) as having less than 256 colours can make your gif look patchy. At the bottom right, make sure you’ve selected looping options: forever to make sure the gif will loop. Finally, at the bottom left, you can see the size of the gif in megabytes. Note that Tumblr will allow gifs up to 10mb to be uploaded, but gifs will typically look best when under 3mb (though debatable).

Press save and you’re done! Note that sometimes after you’ve saved, the timing of the gif will be either too fast or slow. You may need to reopen the gif again and adjust the timing. I find that if you’re using 60fps, 0.02-0.03s generally looks best, while 0.04-0.05 will look best when using 30fps or with a preprocessor. Try them out and see what looks right to you.

Congrats on making it through this tutorial and taking the time to make gifs. Making gifs you find nice won’t always come easily or with the first try, but keep going and you’ll eventually find a way that works for you that you’ll be happy with. What is the MDZS language fest?

The MDZS language fest is a fan event aimed to celebrate the linguistic diversity of the Mo Dao Zu Shi fandom here on tumblr!

What is the purpose of the MDZS language fest?

Giving people a chance to stretch their creative wings into linguistic territories that usually don’t get as much love in the English language MDZS fandom! As the original novel is in Chinese already, it feels important to give space for different languages in this fandom :)

When is the MDZS language fest?

The MDZS language fest will run from Monday November 22nd to Sunday November 28th.

What are the prompts for each day?

Wednesday 24th: yellow, grief, exciting and boring

What rules are there for posting? / Anything that is off-limits?

We will not tolerate stolen/reposted content or claiming someone else’s creation as your own.

We also won’t be reblogging any NSFW content to this blog during this event. (Though everyone is of course free to create some if that’s where your mind goes!)

This is not a rule, but we encourage everyone to offer some type of translation in English (for example under a “read more” link) so that everyone can collectively enjoy your creation and the differences between languages.

Any special rules for fanfics?

For us to reblog fanfics, your post needs to include the main pairing, rating, and Ao3 content warnings (if they apply). If further common content warnings apply, it would be great if you could tag for them too, as a courtesy to others.

This means that explicit fanfiction is also allowed and we will reblog it for as long as any NSFW content is behind a link to a different site (for example Ao3) and the rating is visible.

Otherwise, we welcome fanfics in any language, translations of other people’s fics (as long as the original author has given their permission), as well as fanfics in one language (most likely English) that feature elements of another language (this could, for example, mean that a fic takes inspiration from tales from a specific language or features characters studying that language etc.)

Be creative! We wish this event to give all fanfic authors a space where they can play with language and draw inspiration from linguistic details just like all the other content creators.

How to gif without photoshop

Hello! By popular demand (of like 4 people) I am going to write out a tutorial of how I make gifs when I’m on my personal laptop and don’t have access to photoshop. There is another method I use with a different software that is a bit more complicated and if people are interested, I will make a tutorial of that method as well. I’ll do my best to keep this concise, so let’s get started. 

Warning that this is VERY text and image heavy because I know how frustrating it can be when a tutorial feels like it’s skipping steps and I want this to be as clear as possible. Also please read this on desktop, tumblr mobile kills the quality of gifs inside text posts.

This is the video I will be giffing and here is the gif I will be making!

What you need:

 A video to gif

For the best results, I recommend a video that is either 720p or 1080p (basically the higher the quality, the better). Videos with good lighting and bright colors also turn out the best. Unfortunately for me, I gif the TV show Prodigal Son a lot and that show has neither of those things, which is why my gif example is from that show; if you can make a scene with zero lighting or vibrancy look even somewhat decent, you can make anything else look good.

A video downloader or screen recorder

This is the video downloader I use and this is the screen recorder but basically any youtube video download website or screen recorder program works. Keep in mind that ezgif has a pretty low upload limit for videos, so if you want to gif something longer than like ~4 minutes, cut the video down to the specific parts you want first on a website like this one.

A very straight forward website that anyone can access. You don’t need to download anything, it’s all online. 

Bonus: Online Image Editor (not required, but I use this website to add text to gifs)

1. Making the gif:

Once you have a video downloaded, you go to ezgif.com and go to the section video to gif. Click choose a file, scroll to your downloaded video, and hit upload video. Your screen should look like this now.

There are two ways to pull out the sections of the video you want to gif. You can either write in the start and end time in the little sections (you have to convert them to seconds: for example, if my gif started at 1:16 and ended at 1:20, it would be 76 seconds and 80 seconds respectively). Or you can do the method that I feel is easier, where you go to the section you want it to start on, hit pause, and hit the blue button that says “use current position” then let the video play until it hits your stopping point, hit pause again, and click on the second “use current position” button.

Once you have the start and end time recorded, scroll down to the next part of the screen with the size options. For size, select “540xAUTO (for Tumblr)” since tumblr gif sizes start at 540p and go down the more gifs are in a row. For frame rate, try to do either 20 or 25; the higher the frame rate, the smoother the gif will look. If you are trying to gif something in 540p that is longer, you might need to chose 10 to keep it under 5mb, which is the tumblr gif size limit. For method, leave it on FFMPEG. Then hit, convert to gif.

Now, this gif is currently 5.7mb, which is above the size limit for tumblr (5mb or above gifs will still play if I recall, but the quality will be really bad when you post them). If I was planning on keeping the gif this size, I would go back and change the frame rate to either 20 or 10 to get the size down. However, I am going to resize the gif to 268p, so I don’t need to worry about it being to big.

Using the correct gif size for tumblr is one of the easiest ways to make sure the gif looks good! For gifs that take up a whole row, the size should be 540p wide. For two gifs in one row, the size is 268p each. For three gifs in one row, the sizes are 177p, 178p, and 177p in that order. Here is a visual of it. 

The next step would normally be resizing the gif, but Prodigal Son youtube videos come with a black banner on the top and bottom that I need to crop out. You will see a menu full of options under your gif, and you want to click on “crop.”

Cropping is pretty straight forward; you just move the little box over the part you want cropped, then hit the “crop image” button. Make sure width stays 540p!

Your gif now looks like this

Next, you look at the options under your gif again, and go to “resize.”

Again, resizing is pretty straight forward. I just put in 268 into the “width” section and leave the “height” section blank since the site will automatically resize the height. You can ignore the other menu options.

Next step is optional, but I usually do it. Once again, you go to the menu of options under your gif and select “speed.”

Speed is also super straight forward. I almost always reduce the speed of my gifs somewhere from 90% to 80% no matter what, just because I think it makes it look smoother. For gifs that are of short scenes that go really fast, I will reduce it to anywhere from 70% to 50%. You can try different speeds to test out what you think looks best. For this gif, I’m going to put it at 80%.

Here’s what we have so far. Congrats, you have made a gif!

Now for the fun part!

2. Coloring the gif

Go to the “effects” option, in the menu under your gif. You will see a LOT of options, but the panels I’m going to focus on are “colorize”, “brightness and contrast” and “color presets”. This section is going to vary a lot depending on what specific video you are giffing so remember to be flexible and try lots of different options out! It took me a while to get to a place where I can just eye a scene and know what settings to use. It’s super easy to go back and tweak a setting if the gif doesn’t look like how you want it the first time, but it’s a lot of trial and error. 

The main option I focus on in the “colorize” section, is “saturation.” This is what will make all the color in your gif pop out. The saturation I use varies a ton; for scenes that already are colorful/bright, I usually keep it around 120 to 150, since you don’t want it to be over saturated. If I’m making an edit that is supposed to look toned down or more grey/neutral tones, I’ll decreases the saturation in the range of like 90-40. For a show like Prodigal Son, where there is basically zero color vibrancy, I tend to go full out with saturation, usually in the 150-200 range. For this gif, I have it all the way up to 200.

Next is brightness and contrast. This also varies wildly, but a good rule of thumb is I always try to keep my contrast at least 5 points higher than whatever my brightness is, it just makes the lighting more even. You need to find a good balance; obviously, the darker the scene, the higher you want the brightness and contrast, but if you go too high, the gif with be staticy/grainy. For Prodigal Son, which has horrible lighting, my brightness is anywhere from 10-30 and my contrast is anywhere from 15-35. For this gif, my brightness is on the lower side since the scene is outside in natural light; brightness is 16, contrast is 26. 

After you get those settings, I go over to “color presets” section and click on the “tint” option. It will pull up a color chart that looks like this

You ALWAYS want the intensity up to 100. This part is where the most trial and error occurs; there isn’t any one color option that works for every gif. The shade I use most often is light red/pink or light blue/light purple. For scenes that are lacking warm tones (which is almost all of Prodigal Son) I tend to go to the light reds, and for scenes that are lacking cool tones, I go to the light blues. The light reds are best for making characters skin tones look more...like actual skin tones and not totally washed out. To select a color, you just move your mouse around the chart. This is the range of color codes I tend to use.

Again, intensity should be up to 100 (it automatically starts at 50 and I was too lazy to move it while getting screen shots :P). 

For this gif, I actually used a new technique I’ve been trying out where I start with a light blue tint to even out the color tones, then once that gif is done, I go back to effects and add a layer of pink to make the colors brighter. Usually, one color works fine, but sometimes it’s hard to find a good balance (the red colors can get too red and the blue sometimes brings out too much of a yellow shade). For now, I have my color tint set at #eeebff. 

Ultimately, this is what my effect settings look like and this is what the gif looks like now. 

Now, like I said before, I added another layer of tint to this gif. All you have to do is go to the menu under your gif, and click on effects again.

It will take you back to the panel you were just on, expect now your colored gif is on the top and all the settings are blank again. The only setting you need to use now is the tint option; go there, and select a light red shade. I used #fff0f0.

And here is the final gif! To save it, just right click and hit “save image as.”

I know it seems like a long process, but once you get a hang of it, it goes by super fast, especially if all your gifs are coming from the same video.

BONUS: Adding text

If you are trying to gif something with dialogue or you want a quote to put over your gif, you will want to put text over it. ezgif has a “text” option that you can use if you want, but I personally don’t really like their font options, so I use the website Online Image Editor.

This is what it looks like. You can either hit “upload an image” and upload your saved gif, or you can go back to ezgif, right click the gif, hit “copy image url” and paste that url into the “upload from url” option. The web page should now look like this.

It’s pretty straight forward from here; click on the “add text” button and a menu will appear on the left hand with options for the text. 

Type whatever you want the caption to be in the “type text here” box. This website has a ton of font options you can play around with, but when I just want to caption a gif, I stick with “Arial Bold Italic.” For a 268p gif, the font size should be 10-12, depending on how much writing you plan to put on each gif (if some gifs are going to have more writing than others, pick a smaller font size so it stays consistent!) When I make a 540p, the font goes up to 14-16.  I use white for the color and black for the stroke. I make the strokewith 3 because it makes the caption stand out more. Once all these settings are selected, hit the “preview” button under the text box.

You can now drag your text anywhere you want on the image! The only bad thing about this website is that it doesn’t automatically center text, so you either have to eyeball it, or if you’re picky, like me, open up one of those online ruler applications and use it to measure out the center. For captions, I move the text just slightly above the bottom of the gif. 

Finally, you hit apply. Once your gif has the text on it, all you have to do to save it is right click it and hit “save image as.” And here is the finished project!

Warnings/notes: Warning for slight OOC-Spooky. Very cute and mushy. This is based around the song “Bésame Mucho” by Andrea Bocelli. You can listen to it here. It’s a really beautiful song so I recommend you listen to it while reading this! Translation of the text is at the end but keep in mind that I’m not a native Spanish speaker so there might be mistakes, and this is my first time writing a song fic so it might be bad xD Not proofread!

Summary: You’re laying around with Oscar in bed, listening to music together, when your song comes on. 

Quiet, relaxing moments were a rare occurring thing for Spooky with the pressure he was living under because of Los Santo and Cuchillos constantly being on his ass, but whenever he did manage to squeeze in one of these moments into his busy schedule, it was always spent with you.

You were tucked into his side where you laid in your shared bed, your head resting on his shoulder and your hand on his chest while his arms were wrapped around you.

In your other hand you held your phone, the wires of your headphones going from the bottom of the mobile device and splitting into two between yours and Oscar’s heads, the two of you having one earbud each plugged into your ears.

Low music was playing from the earbuds, your phone set to shuffle on a random Spotify playlist of Oscar’s choice.

It wasn’t often that moments like this occurred so you treasured them with everything that you had in you.

Your fingers were absentmindedly drawing circles on your boyfriend’s chest, the grey fabric of his t-shirt soft under your touch. His chest was in turn rising and falling at a slow pace, his breath equally as slow and deep.

He was following your example and soothingly caressing your bare upper arm with his thumb, the feeling sending shivers down your spine and making you feel more content than ever.

The song you were currently listening to came to a stop and the next song started, and the sound of guitar strings being plucked in a familiar melodic tune instantly brought a wide smile to your lips.

The words were all too familiar to you at this point in your life and they never failed to make you feel nostalgic and over the moon; like you were on cloud nine. 

The memory of that night six years ago automatically resurfaced in your head. Your body grew warm as the feelings you had been feeling back then returned like it had only been yesterday that you had been standing there underneath the dim, blue lights.

And judging by the way Oscar’s thumb had now stopped moving over the skin of your arm, he seemed to have recognized it as well.

As the song continued playing in your ear, you opened your eyes and shifted your head on his chest so that you were able to look at him, smiling.

“It’s our song.” You noted, despite the fact that he already knew. “Do you remember? This was the song that was playing the night we first met.”

The memory in your head played out as clear as a movie, like you were watching it on a flatscreen in high quality right then and there. 

The white and red roses were spread out throughout the room, people slow dancing on the dancefloor while the band played on stage.

The room was dark, only dimly lit up by the white and light blue lights in the ceiling as the bride and her groom danced in the middle of the crowd, their loved ones moving in an identical way with their significant others around them.

But you were sitting alone, your third flute of champagne hanging from between your fingers as you scanned the room. 

You remembered it so vividly, the feeling of boredom and longing to go home that you had felt in that moment feeling as fresh in your body as ever as you looked back.

And that’s when it had happened.

That’s when you had averted your gaze from the dancing wedding guests and looked to the other side of the room, meeting the pair of deep, brown eyes that you today loved more than life itself for the first time ever.

Beside you, Oscar hummed, his chest vibrating under your hand, and you watched as he droopily opened his eyes.

“I remember, mamas.” He mumbled, his brown eyes meeting yours in real life like they had just done in your memory.

His voice was groggy from not having been used for so long, the two of you having laid in silence for over an hour. Yet neither of you had fallen asleep, enjoying each other’s company too much.

You smiled at him, scanning his face. “I was forced there against my will because Jessica hadn’t found a date, and you were there with Sad Eyes and his ruca. You were wearing a black button-up, grey jeans,-”

“And you were wearing a yellow sundress.” Oscar recalled, his full lips pulling into a smile of his own.

You snorted at that, remembering how mad you had been about being forced to wear that ugly dress. 

“Don’t remind me. It was way too small for me and I still can’t believe Jessica forced me to wear it. It did nothing for my figure.” You shook your head, still disappointed after all those years.

But Oscar’s smile only widened and he pushed himself up on his elbow, now leaning over you and moving his hand to the side of your face.

“You looked beautiful.” He corrected, gingerly tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. “Just like you do now.”

A chuckle left your lips. “Well, I must have.” You teased, squinting your eyes playfully and raising your hand to touch the Santos cross inked into the skin on his neck. “Because I don’t think the infamous Spooky would have asked me to dance if I hadn’t.”

The memory changed in your mind, taking you back to when Oscar had walked up to you and asked for your hand in a dance. 

You had only been eighteen at the time but he had already been jumped into the Santos a long time prior to that moment, and you were… well, let’s just say that you weren’t the fondest of human interaction, so neither of you had any experience when it came to dancing.

But still, you had taken his hand without as much as a single doubt in your mind, and you hadn’t regretted it once.

“I think back to that moment every day. Every time we kiss, I kiss you like it’s our last moment together.” Oscar’s face was concentrated, his fingers absentmindedly touching your face, his eyes following their movements as he listened to the lyrics and reminisced the past.  

His words caused your eyebrows to crease together, your hands moving up to cradle his face. “You don’t have to think like that.” You mumbled, shaking your head. “I’m not going anywhere, papi.”

The fact that he would even think about you leaving him made your heart tug painfully in your chest. You could be threatened to be killed, be held under gun- or knifepoint, and you still wouldn’t even consider leaving his side.

But you understood his worries. All of the people he had loved throughout his life had ended up leaving him in one way or another. 

He knew that you loved him, but he would always be scared that history would be repeated with you like it had been with everyone else.

“I know you’re not.” He agreed, continuing to look down at you with nothing but pure, raw admiration. “But I’m scared. I’m scared that I’ll fuck this up like I’ve done everything else in my life.”

He closed his eyes, leaning closer to your face and pressing his forehead against yours. “I know this shit between us is real, but it still feels like I’m dreaming.” The confession brought another tug at your heart. “Like you’re gonna disappear if I open my eyes; if I let you go.”

“I’m scared that I’ll get caught up in this shit too deep, that I’ll-” He let out a breath of air through his nose, his eyes squeezing shut for a brief moment. “That I’ll have to leave to keep you safe and never get to see you again. Never get to look into your eyes and see the reflection of the man you make me. A better man.”

“You’re a good man all on your own, baby.” You quickly objected, holding his cheeks with just a tad bit more force in your hands. “You don’t need me for that.”

“I do.” He kept fighting back, his eyes narrowing to the point where you could only see his dark eyelashes, his brown irises hidden behind them. “You don’t just make me better. You want me want to be better. Without you, I would have been dead a long time ago.”

“Then kiss me like this is our last moment together.” You said, your eyebrows furrowing together. “Kiss me as if tomorrow, we’ll be on opposite sides of the planet, surrounded by other people and with no way for you to tell me you love me. Kiss me. Kiss me as if it’s the last time.”

He stared into your eyes and just for the briefest of times, the world seemed to stop around you. The moment between a glance and a kiss where the only thing between you was the intense affection and the anticipation of each other’s lips on yours. 

It was a moment so intense it hung in the air and pulled you closer, and then he did. 

He kissed you like he was drowning and you were his air, like he was starved, like he hadn’t eaten or drank in two weeks and you were the only thing keeping him alive.

He put his hands on either side of your face, the room fell away around you and you had never gotten so lost in a kiss before. 

The space between you exploded, your heart kept missing beats and your hands couldn’t bring him close enough to you.

One of his hands left your face to tug the headphones out of your ears just as the song came to an end, and you allowed him to grab them and your phone and put them somewhere to the side without ever breaking the kiss.

You were intoxicated by the feel of his arms around you and his lips moving against yours in perfect synchronization. 

Slowly, he began to unwrap you; your mind, your heart, your soul. He hadn’t gotten to your clothes yet, but you knew he would, because he just kept kissing you more, truly as if it was for the last time.

12: Past Tense [Claire]

I’d been dreaming of Jamie.

I had dreamed of his hands roving all over me, touching me, pleasuring me. I thought I had dreamt his hand on my breast, his arousal pressed against my bum, and I shamelessly ground my body on his, in my lust-fueled dream. The sound of his voice had hit me and it had stopped being a dream.

I’d made it become reality. I’d gone for broke and kissed him, and more. What on earth had possessed me to do that?

You’re insanely attracted to him, that’s why.

He hadn’t rejected me, and for that I was grateful. But now paranoia had set in and I was worried about what our encounter would do to our budding friendship. Afterwards, I had felt a little stilted and awkward. He gave no outward sign of discomfort, but was attentive and polite as usual.

But now that I knew what Jamie looked like in the throes of passion, starting a conversation became doubly hard. The roads had been cleared, the snow storm having spent itself in a night. After breakfast with his family and being hugged goodbye by everyone (including my vague promise to Ellen about coming back soon), he had driven me home; the radio was on a little bit loud, breaking up the silence between us. We managed a few half-smiles, a brush of hands here and there, and a promise to call each other soon. We had a wedding to attend, after all.

I had a few texts from Louise and a voicemail, who wanted to go over the flower arrangements one final time, now that the wedding invitations had been mailed and RSVPs were pouring in, including mine. The wedding was set in a few weeks, right before Christmas. The shop was closed on Mondays, but I texted her back so we could meet up later that week. I did a load of laundry. I went over some invoices for the shop. And all the while, in the back of my head, the memory of Jamie’s mouth and hands on me lingered.

The ringing of my phone startled me out of my reverie; Jamie Fraser flashed on the screen, and my heart pounded in double-time. The tension in my shoulders eased and I felt something unclench in my stomach I hadn’t even realized was there.

“Hello?”

“Hello, Sassenach, it’s Jamie. Well, o’ course ye ken that, mobiles show ye who’s calling, don’t they. But why do we always answer the phone like we dinna ken who’s calling, right?”

“Hi, Jamie. You know, you’re right about that. I’ll start answering my phone differently from now on.” I laughed, set further at ease by the Scottish burr of his voice.

“Och, weel, I just wanted to thank ye for accompanying me to lunch. And being so nice to my family. They absolutely loved ye, I think ye could tell. And I wanted to say… sorry. I guess. For the… this morning, ye ken. In case ye were regretting it. Or if ye think I was out of line.”

“Actually, Jamie, I was hoping you didn’t think I was out of line.” My hands fiddled with the papers on the table. “I think I was pretty clear about what I wanted. But maybe you didn’t want to be pawed at and I don’t want you to think that it’s all I wanted from you. You’re my friend, and I wouldn’t want this to come between us.”

“Friend?” Jamie repeated.

“Of course, I consider you my friend,” I said, confused. “Aren’t we friends?”

“Aye, of course, Claire.” He paused. “There was one more thing I wanted to ask ye. As friends, then.”

“Sure.”

“I meant to ask ye out. On a proper date.” Jamie’s tone went up on the last word, making it sound like a question.

“A date.”

“A real one. Not just coffee—unless that’s what ye would like, of course. But I thought perhaps dinner.”

“Yes.” I didn’t hesitate any longer. My fingers gripped the phone tightly, and the swooping feeling of butterflies was back in my stomach, but for a good reason.

“Really?” Jamie asked, incredulous.

I laughed again. “Yes, Jamie, I’m saying yes. Would this Friday be alright?”

“Sounds perfect. Shall I pick ye up at 7? Did ye have anything in mind that ye’d like?”

“Whatever you choose will be fine. I trust you.”

He didn’t know how much.

For the rest of the week, I spent my days dreaming about my date with Jamie. Date, date, date. A real date. I put in flower orders for bouquets and tended to the indoor plant boxes that held rosemary, parsley, and thyme, but all the while my thoughts were with Jamie.

After meeting Louise on Friday morning for some final wedding details, I left the shop in a hurry, already planning my outfit in my head. Dress up, or seem casual? Maybe a mix of both? As I ransacked my closet, pulling out shirts and jeans and the few dresses I owned, I decided to call Geillis.

“I have a date tonight.” I didn’t even bother to say hello as soon as she answered.

“Ye do?” Geillis Duncan was one of the few people in Glasgow who’d made Frank and me feel welcome back when we were new to the city. She owned a small but popular café near the flower shop. Our friendship had survived my breakup; it dawned on me that we hadn’t talked to each other in a couple of weeks, and she knew nothing about Jamie. I filled her in on some of the details, keeping the most recent private ones to myself.

“So he’s picking me up in like, an hour, and I don’t know what to wear!” I wailed, trying to zip up the back of a dress and giving up in frustration.

“It sounds like ye’re overthinking this, Beauchamp,” Geillis said. “Why don’t I come over now and lend ye my black skirt ye like so much and the yellow top? It’ll bring out the color of yer eyes, I’m sure Jamie will love ye in it.” She was giggling madly at the idea.

“Don’t tease me, Geil, I’m so not in the mood right now. But thank you.”

We hung up, and twenty minutes later she was at my door, helping me with my hair and make-up after I had dressed. I knew there was an ulterior motive to her being at my flat, and she confirmed in no uncertain terms that she wanted to see Jamie herself.

“Geillis, please don’t—”

“Relax, Claire. I just want to see the lad’s whose bonny red hair has ye in such a fluster.”

“You have red hair, you know.”

Geillis clucked. “’Tis not the same, and ye ken it. When will he be here?”

Before I could respond, there was a knock at the front door. It was promptly seven o’clock, and I glanced at Geillis in a panic. She smoothed down the skirt and pushed me towards the entrance. Heart pounding, very much aware that Geillis was peering gleefully around the hall for a glimpse of Jamie, I opened the door to find a very dapper Jamie. In dark jeans, a pressed sky-blue shirt and a black coat. The hues of his outfit brought out the intense sapphire of his eyes as his own gaze raked me over and seemed please at what he saw. I blushed.

“Hello, Sassenach.” He leaned in to kiss my cheek and his fingers lingered briefly on my arm. I caught the scent of his cologne, like tart lemons and spice.

“Hi, Jamie.” We stood there for a few seconds that seemed an eternity, before a loud harrumph and a fake cough from Geillis broke us out of our reverie. Jamie peered into the flat as I quickly grabbed my purse from the kitchen table where I’d left it before.

“Is there someone here with ye, Sassenach?”

“It’s my friend Geillis, but don’t worry, you don’t need to meet her and she was just leaving. Weren’t you, Geil?” I raised my voice for her benefit as I led Jamie out of the flat. “Lock up when you go!” I shut the door on one of her loud laughs; I was sure to hear from her later.

We walked to the stairs and Jamie tentatively reached for my hand. I grasped it firmly and squeezed in reassurance. Traipsing down the stairs, and remembering the last time we had done so together, I felt stupidly happy and shy all at once.

The restaurant he’d chosen was a low-key pub tucked into one of Glasgow’s winding alleys. We ordered wine and the awkwardness that I’d feared after our previous encounter was gone. Jamie and I talked animatedly about our week; my preparations for the upcoming wedding and flower arrangements, and he told me of the distillery and all the Christmas orders they had to fill.

“I was thinking of a new special blend; aging whisky in tequila barrels, not regular oak. The flavor is more complex, so different from what I’ve tasted. I plan to call it something like da anam, two souls.”

“That sounds very different! Where would you get the barrels?”

Jamie spoke of partnering up with several tequila producers in Mexico, as I speared rosemary potatoes with my fork; all the while we poured glass after glass of ruby wine for each other. Conversation flowed between us just as effortlessly.

Over dessert sometime later, I felt the back of my neck prickling. I sensed eyes on me, and they weren’t Jamie’s. It felt wrong, somehow.

I turned my head slightly and found Frank looking at me. He was with Sandy; he quickly bowed his head and shifted his attention elsewhere. I felt my face flush. I swiveled back and dropped my fork with a clatter.

“Sassenach? What’s wrong?”

“I don’t—it-it’s Frank.”

“Where?” He looked around wildly and I shushed him and clamped my hands on his arm in desperation.

“He’s back there, with the blonde. Just—be discreet.” Jamie got a good long look and then leaned in to whisper quietly.

“Didn’t ye say Sandy—his fiancée, with the giant ring ye mentioned. Wasn’t she supposed to be pregnant?”

“She might have had the baby, I don’t know. Her stomach was pretty big last time I saw her.” I sneaked another look.

It wasn’t Sandy.

She was blonde like Frank’s fiancée, but this wasn’t her. She looked even younger, fresher-faced, and was definitely not pregnant.

Cheating, lying, bastard.

I took deep breaths and Jamie ran a hand soothingly down my back. I shivered and grabbed my coat off the back of my chair.

“Jamie, I’m sorry, can we go?”

“Of course, Sassenach.” After quickly settling the check, he stood up as unobtrusively as a six-foot man ever could and pulled out my chair. He put his arm around me as we walked quickly to the exit.

It was inevitable that we pass by Frank’s table, though. The restaurant was a bit crowded and the layout made it impossible to avoid him. As we did, I got up the courage to meet his eye, bolstered by Jamie’s warm hand on my back. He wore a shamed expression, and could not hold my gaze. The woman stared back curiously at us, and I heard her ask him who I was.

“No one,” Frank replied, a slight tremor in his voice. Jamie tightened his grip on me, and I knew he’d heard him too.

Jamie came to a sudden halt near their table; he turned to face me, and with a soft whispered, “I hope ye dinna mind this,” pressed a soft kiss to my pursed lips. I opened my mouth in surprise, and he continued to probe gently. I found my arms rising to encircle his waist, clutching at the back of his coat. I dimly heard Frank clear his throat and murmur something unintelligible. I had ceased to care, though, lost in the fog of kissing Jamie.

Jamie’s mouth trailed across my cheek. “Dinna listen to him, Sassenach,” he whispered as he nuzzled my ear. “Ye’re so much more than ye know.”
