"Come on my children it's time for your destiny." My father Ben spoke as my brother Jacob and I walked through the woods stopping in the middle of a clearing. Today is the day we turned 22. Ever since we were kids our parents have said we had a destiny to one day lead our witch Coven. Jacob's blonde hair blows in front of his face as we now face each other. He is slightly taller than me. My mother Eliza stands by my father. She crossed her arms over her chest walking up to me slowly.
"Don't be afraid honey. This is what you're born to do." She tucks hair behind my ear. My back stiffening at the thought if she's telling the truth. The thing about my brother and I is that we are twins. But witches without our own magic. Our mother calls it siphoning. Glancing over my shoulder to Jacob I gulped heavily, putting my hands in his starting the chant we were taught recently. The wind started picking up as I stare up to the sky. The moon moved out from hiding by the clouds glowing down at our current spot.
Jacob squeezes my hands sensing my nerves like always. "Eyes on me. Twins together forever." I sniffed through tears at our little vow to each other. I feel the magic from inside me disappear and some new coming to me meaning it had to be Jacob's. My eyes turn white at the same time as Jacob's. The leaves spin around us as the wind is much faster until we reached the end of the spell. Jacob and I get thrown backwards where I grunted immediately passing out for a little while.
"Jacob!" I suddenly gasped shooting up in a sitting position. My heart beating quick as my eyes flickered around the forest landing on my twin brother laying on his back. Rushing to my feet I dropped on my knees shaking him lightly trying to wake him up. "Jacob, Jacob. Come on wake up. Please wake up, Jacob." My father stepped up placing a hand on my shoulder making me whip my head up starting to cry. "Why - why won't he wake up dad - what's going on?"
Instead of responding he bends down removing the gemstone necklace from around his neck that he always wore, placing it in my hand. "You have won the Merge, Raelyn."
He walked away as I felt tears falling down my face not understanding any of this. "Tardus pulsatio, Tardus pulsatio, Tardus pulsatio!" I press my hands onto Jacob's chest chanting in an attempt to bring him back. My mother suddenly walked up trying to pull me away from him where I screamed. She keeps pulling as I am sobbing uncontrollably now feeling his presence inside me. "He can't die, mother...He's my brother, my twin...I won't lose him!" Suddenly I winced feeling my mother draw magic from me, yanking me away from my brother and locking his body in a boundary spell so when I ran up I smacked a wall.
"You're father threatened that if I told you two the truth that he would force you to do the Merge earlier. I'm sorry sorry Raelyn." Mother threw her arms down at her sides choking through tears at her lost son.
Stomping my boots in the dirt I started crying more out of such confusion. "Why would he - what the hell is the Merge, mother!"
She frustratedly runs her fingers through her hair, throwing her head back in agony. "It's a ritual that happens to twins born into our Coven. Since you and Jacob just turned 22 today that is the year to have the Merge...it's where you combine your strengths together...there can only be one winner."
Swaying on my feet I feel light headed where I might throw up or pass out again at the horror. My mother tried to come towards me but I clutched the necklace of my twin in my hands turning my hand red drawing the magic into myself. "Evanesco." Before her eyes my whole body disappeared like I was invisible giving me the chance to run from her. The wind blows through my hair as my legs just keep running until I collapse against a tree seeing the open road.
Waving my hands back and forth I luckily get someone to stop, rolling down their window I see a young boy with blonde hair and a kind smile. "Hey miss, do you need a lift?"
Nodding my head slowly he put the car in park coming to help me in the passenger's seat closing the door. He closed his door and started the car, giving me a weak smile. "I'm Matt Donavan. What's your name?" Glancing towards the boy out of the corner of my eye I wrap my arms around myself. If today had taught me anything it's that you can't trust anyone, especially your own family.
Shifting my back towards the guy I stared out the window feeling like my heart was gone. "Can you just drive please, Matt. I'm not feeling good." He turns the engine on pulling back onto the road. People say twins have a special connection. That they can know what the other is thinking and can feel their pain. The second part is true, because I can still feel Jacob's spirit inside me still.
"Eyes on me. Twins together forever." Those are the last words my brother would ever say.
Matt drove us into town and I stayed curled up in a ball the whole trip. I don't see how my parents thought keeping the truth from us was okay. That we didn't deserve to know that one of us would win but kill our sibling in the end. Resting my hands over my ears I press my forehead on the countertop of the bar. Hopefully I can just drown it all out or make it appear as a horrible nightmare that I can wake up from.
Knowing that now I clutch my hands into my hair mumbling to myself like a mato. "I'm never having kids. The Gemini Coven will murder them if I do."
Something gets sat down in front of me making me peak through my fingers of my left hand eyeing a drink. "What's this?" I questioned I sit up on the barstool while Matt started wiping down the counter with a rag.
He eyed me with a smile before I raised the glass to my lips taking a sip. "You looked like you could use a drink. No charge for the first."
Without thinking I down the rest sitting it on the table, pressing my hands against it. "Give me something stronger. The stronger the better."
He eyes me for a minute but goes to make the drink anyway. Reaching into my pocket I slowly pull out Jacob's necklace laying it in front of me. Brushing my fingertips over the light blue gemstone I sniffed through tears that immediately came just by staring at the piece of jewelry. "Invisique. Nullum visa laris."
My father was proud that I was alive so I can't trust that he won't come after me. Mother seemed ashamed that she lied. More so that she lost one of her children. Opening my eyes again I hope the spell works to cloak me so they can't do a locator spell. A glass gets slide my way when the front door of the bar opened and someone walks up taking a seat beside me.
"Strong scotch. May I ask what is troubling a lady like yourself?" My ears picked up on a British accent causing me to whip my head throwing my hair around.
The stranger smiles in my direction picking up a drink Matt had brought him that I hadn't noticed until now. "Unfortunately I don't talk to strangers so no." I scoffed flipping my hair towards him.
The British man chuckled taking a long sip from his glass still eyeing me from the corner of his eyes. I can feel my heart starting to flutter at hearing his laugh. Jacob always joked that I dreamed of falling in love with a man with any accent. But I can't deny that the British one was my favorite. "Then let's change that. My name's Klaus. Klaus Mikaelson." He sticks his hand out towards me turning in his chair to face me.
I nearly choked on my drink having to quickly sit the glass down. Hitting my chest as I have a coughing fit in an attempt to not choke. Eyeing him with uncertainty I put my hand in his shaking it slowly biting my lip. Klaus started to pull away but I siphon his hand suddenly twisting his wrist slamming him against the wall with my other hand holding him there.
"Ergh - what are you girl!" He grunts against the wall trying to break free.
Slowly walking up to him I keep my hand raised in front of me holding him there. Eyeing him up and down Klaus has dirty blonde hair and blue eyes that are now turning gold. He clutched his hands into fists still trying to fight against my grip. But somehow I knew I could take him, maybe now that I took my brother's power it gave me a booster. "There's something about you that I don't trust, Klaus. I trusted people closest to me and they betrayed me. So I'm not falling for your charms."
Turning my hand I dropped him to the ground where he growled up at me, heading for the door glancing over my shoulder I kept a brave face to him. "As for my name it's Raelyn Lane. I'd stay away if I were you Mr. Mikaelson."
“I will hunt you to your end, Witch!” He snarled, getting to his feet trying to grab my arm. Spinning around on my feet I threw him backwards once more rushing out the front door and into the parking lot.
Stumbling backwards I collided with someone where we both fell onto the pavement with me pushing my hair out of my face. My eyes noticed that it was a blonde girl that I had run into. “Urgh I’m sorry.”
“Oh…it’s alright. Here let me help you, I’m Caroline Forbes.” She offered her hands pulling me to my feet so we were both standing.
Dropped my hands down to my sides I shrugged my shoulders where I noticed a ring on her hand that I could tell was some sort of daylight ring. By the certain jewelry inside the ring making her a vampire. “I’m Raelyn and I’m sorry again for bumping into you. I was trying to get away from this weird guy.”
“Witch!….Caroline?” Whipping my head around I gasped seeing the same Klaus coming back out of the bar halting in his tracks but he still had golden eyes meaning that he wasn’t just a werewolf when I saw that he showed me his fangs.
Caroline quickly stepped in between us. “Klaus, slow down. I know you probably want to snap her neck but let’s not do that and use your words first.”
“I was simply trying to be nice to the girl until she threw me around with her magic. This is why I don’t like witches.” He slumped his shoulders in anger, sending me a dark glare.
Moving my hand forward I gently gripped the blonde by the shoulder making her wince. “I’m sorry about this, Caroline…invisaqui." Closing my eyes I turned invisible and quickly ran as fast as I could away from them where I could hear as I left.
"Ow! What kind of witch was she?" The blonde asked, rubbing her shoulder.
Klaus shrugged his shoulders frantically looking around, not seeing or hearing me anywhere in sight. "I don't know but she's bloody irritating!!!"

WIP SUNDAY
I was tagged by @r6shippingdelivery 💙
Thanks for giving me a chance to show something new from my works.
I tag @kryptonian-puppy and @mimus-mortuis and of course everyone who wants to participate. If you don't want to or can't that's okay as well😊
Here a little WIP from one of my stories
In the dimly lit room, Elena found herself surrounded by a group of her female colleagues and friends. The atmosphere was light-hearted as they decided to play "Truth or Dare" to unwind after the intense competition. Nomad, always daring, was the one leading the game, eliciting giggles and blushes from everyone present.
As the game progressed, the dares grew more amusing and slightly risqué, yet the camaraderie between the women only grew stronger. Eliza and Elena exchanged teasing glances, both trying to hide the subtle curiosity beneath their competitive exteriors. When it was Ash's turn, Nomad grinned mischievously, her eyes flickering between the two rivals.
"Dare!" Ash declared confidently, ready to take on any challenge thrown her way.
Nomad pretended to ponder for a moment before her eyes settled on Mira. "Alright, then, Liz. Your dare is to give Lena a lap dance."
The room filled with gasps and laughter, and Elena's cheeks flushed with surprise. Eliza looked a little taken aback as well, but she couldn't back down now; she had never turned away from a challenge.
Gathering her resolve, She stood up, making her way to where her rival was sitting. The tension in the room was palpable as the other women watched with eager anticipation. As the music shifted to a slow, sultry beat, Ash began to move with surprising grace and sensuality.
Mira's heart pounded in her chest as Ash swayed to the rhythm, their eyes were locked almost as if they were the only two people in the room. The usual rivalry and tension melted away in that moment, replaced by something entirely different. Elena's initial surprise transformed into an unexpected wave of attraction.
The redhead's body movements were surprisingly mesmerizing and Mira found herself captivated by the unexpected display. It wasn't just the dance that held her attention; it was the realization that there was more to Eliza than she had ever imagined. Underneath the tough exterior, there was vulnerability and a willingness to let down her guard.
As the song ended, the room erupted in applause and cheers. Ash returned to her seat with a slight blush but a newfound confidence gleamed in her eyes. Mira couldn't help but smile for herself seeing this side of her colleague she had never expected.
As the night continued, Elena and Eliza found themselves drawn to one another....
To be continued.

Clandestine Meeting

"Adler, where the hell are you?" A voice crackles in Henry's comms. "Taking care of some pests, Cohen." Henry replies, voice obscured by rapid firing coming from his assault rifle. The mercenaries had just cornered him into a dead end. The only thing stopping the bullets from killing him was a wall that that he was leaning on-- chunks of it clattering to the floor.. "I'll send in reinforcements they'll--" "No, no need." He manages to shoot three mercenaries down. Eliza's voice starts to rise in anger but Henry turns the comms off before she could even start. He doesn't want her nagging to get in his way. The rifle eventually jams and Henry sighs in irritation, ducking from the zipping bullets. He feels something crawl out of his vest pockets and smiles.
"Zulu-20.."
The drone chirps in acknowledgement. "Make me proud." The drone makes haste and crawls to the mercenaries. The enemies were so focused on taking out Henry that they didn't notice the little drone. Viewing the footage from Z20 from his watch, Henry got a clear picture of the other side. With a twisted smile, he opens another application.
Just by a single tap, the mercenaries were gone in a loud, explosive flash and all that was left of them was a large spot of soot and fallen debris. Henry wolf whistles, examining his latest work. Feeling a presence behind him, Henry pulls out his pistol and--
He tuts and puts the pistol back into his holster. "I could have shot you, Deimos."
"Do you have what I asked for?"
Henry tosses something to him. The other man receives it, revealing the item in his palm. Deimos huffs. The item in question is a sleek black USB drive; containing sensitive information within the RAINBOW organization from operator files to the facility's floor plan. "I knew I could rely on you." Deimos tucks the drive in his pocket. Henry rolls his eyes, scoffing. "Were you beginning to question my loyalty or my ability?"
Deimos laughs dryly. "Did you really have to ask? Loyalty to you is simply nonexistent." He moves in closer and Henry narrows his eyes. "As for your ability to get the job done, well it was exceptional." Deimos glances at the area where Z20 detonated. "I remembered when RAINBOW was just like this: a ruthless and merciless pack of apex predators who gave not a single damn." Deimos sighs, reminiscing of the old days of bloodshed and violence.
"But that came to an end when Harry stepped in as the new Six, I'm guessing." Henry replied, a bored and sardonic tone in his voice. Deimos stares at him, an ominous air in the wind. "You already have suspicions on what I'm going to do next right?" Henry nods. The other man laughs, clasping both his hands together. "Right, I forgot. You don't give a damn about anyone.."
Henry huffs in annoyance when Deimos's gloved hand lifts his chin. "Which is why you confuse me, Babel. You clearly don't show loyalty to anyone but yourself. However--" with his other hand, Deimos taps his forehead--"you still work for them. For Harry. Why not join my cause? I need predators like you to take down men like Harry." Henry's nostrils flared and he swatted away Deimos's hand.
"I don't think I'm inclined to reply."
The sound of gunfire and shouting mercenaries were faint but slowly growing near. "I guess this marks the end for our appointment." Deimos grins behind his mask. He gives Henry a few pats in the back before walking away-- disappearing in the shadows. The sounds of footsteps were growing louder. Henry switched his comms back on.
"Adler!"
Henry meets Eliza's furious gaze and returns with a smile. "Ah! Still in one piece I see!" The woman marches toward him, Jordan following behind. Her arm was about to swing at Henry when Jordan intervened. "Ash, don't. It's not worth it."
Its always like this after missions, Henry thought. They should have at least gotten used to it by this point. A voice crackles in their comms telling them that the mission is complete and that transportation is on the way. As they left however, Henry could still feel that lingering presence.
--
It was after he repaired his drone when Henry received an encrypted message from Deimos. The task was to monitor Harry and notify Deimos when something interesting or valuable is noted. Henry hums and purses his lips in deep thought.
"Henry!"
He looks behind him to see Marius approaching him. He lifts a brow. "What brings you here?" There were a couple of possibilities playing in his mind. Does Marius want to talk more about his Leeches? Or perhaps the German wants to ask Henry's opinion on modifications he plans to make on the Magpie.
"There's this documentary I found about upcoming technological innovations and I think you might like it.."
Henry's mouth went agape, baffled by the offer. "You want me to watch a documentary with you?" Marius nods eagerly. He bites his lower lip; remembering the task he was given. He could just tell Marius that he isn't interested but at the same time, he doesn't. Oh well. Stalking Harry and his every move could wait.
"I can see nothing wrong with that. Have you decided the time?"

Hello :) Your tag in your latest post, "if anyone wants my bunner sisters/hunger games analysis lmk". Could I read it? Thank you so much.
I really didn't expect anyone to take me up on that one, so this is a pleasant surprise!
So I maintain that The Bunner Sisters parallels the Katniss/Prim storyline in The Hunger Games (and thus the whole trajectory of the series) really, really elegantly. FYI: I am going to spoil the endings of both these books, if you care about spoilers for Gilded Age novellas and/or somehow never read/watched THG.
So. Quick summary to pull out all the parallels: Both books center a pair of sisters living in poverty (Ann Eliza and Evelina / Katniss and Prim). The older sister looks after the younger and has done so for many years. She frequently makes sacrifices on her little sister's behalf because, although she's more or less resigned to her own lot in life, she wants something better for little sis (marriage and children for Evelina / becoming a healer for Prim). To this end, she ends up choosing to sacrifice her own happiness, physical wellbeing, and future for that of her sister (Ann Eliza gives Evelina basically all the money they have for her dowry / Katniss takes Prim's place in the Hunger Games). Yet ultimately, these sacrifices prove futile: both younger sisters die preventable deaths (Evelina's new husband is an addict who abuses her; she miscarries, falls ill, and dies / Gale's bomb kills Prim). Although neither older sister is responsible for the death, it is ultimately her sacrifice that led to it (Ann Eliza's sacrifice allows Evelina to marry the man who abuses her / Katniss's revolution, which she inadvertently inspires while in the Games, kills Prim). So, in both cases, we're left with the question: what is the point of sacrificial love if in the end the person you were trying to save dies anyway?
Edith Wharton was technically a Naturalist (the literary movement, not the scientific occupation). I... generally really hate Naturalism? For the uninitiated, basically the whole idea is that people are nothing more than products of their environments and situations. It tends towards a very nihilistic futility wherein people are almost entirely passive in their own tragedies. It's all very bleak, and there tends to be a conspicuous lack of anything really Good, True, or Beautiful, which in my view are prerequisite for a worthwhile tragedy.
Yet Edith Wharton is one of my all-time favorite writers, and I think it's because in spite of her philosophical persuasion, her characters have much more traditional tragic arcs than, say, Thomas Hardy's (my beloathed). To me, Wharton's characters have always read much more like heroes trying to fight fate than like products of their environment passively succumbing to circumstance.
So on the one hand, I'm sure Wharton meant The Bunner Sisters to be about how ultimately futile sacrificial love is. Ann Eliza even says as much-- after Evelina's death, she recognizes the "inutility" of self-sacrifice. But on the other hand, I find that it works equally well as an argument for the beauty of selfless love, even if you cannot see all ends. You've gotta look for it, but I think the relationship between Ann Eliza and Evelina is just so beautifully written that it doesn't matter that it ends badly. The love was there, and it was utterly Christ-like, and if in the end it didn't accomplish what it was supposed to-- well, only Christ's sacrifice was ever perfect.
Which brings us back to Mockingjay, and Prim's death. I think Suzanne Collins is a little more ambiguous on what we're supposed to take from it. THG trilogy ends hopefully, but with Prim there is still a sense of futility. We've had three books of Katniss enduring horror and bloodshed because she wanted nothing more than to save her sister, and in the end none of it matters. Prim dies, and she dies senselessly. The war was already won when the bomb that killed her fell.
And yet, just like with The Bunner Sisters, you can easily turn Katniss's sacrifice back and forth in the light and conclude that it still matters. Even if it backfired, it was important. Christ-like, self-sacrificial love is never wasted, but you have to focus in on the relationship and make that argument to yourself.
And I don't know, I just think that's really beautiful. I think it's really cool that both books follow so much the same trajectory, ostensibly going for different tones with the ending (bleak vs bittersweet), and yet ultimately in both cases it's up to the reader to decide. What is point of sacrificial love if the person you were trying to save dies anyway? Is it inutility and futility? Or is it, perhaps, of infinite worth?

“This is ungodly.” Eliza grumbled, rolling over to silence her alarm. Dragging herself out of bed, Eliza struggled through her morning routine, leaving for the airport only ten minutes late.
As she walked into LAX, Eliza looked around and heard squeals coming from behind her. “Eliza!” Margot was hurrying towards her, arms open.
“Margot!” Eliza through her arms around her neck. “It’s been too long!”
“I know! I had to get married to get you to come back to see me.” Margot laughed, leading Eliza by the hand to the bachelorette party. Eliza recognized two of the group, Emma and Diana, from college, but the other three were unfamiliar to her. “This is Rachael, Katie, and Halle.” Each one waved when her name was said.
“It’s nice to see slash meet everyone!” Eliza clapped her hands, “Am I the last to arrive?”
“Yes, but to be fair, you’ve got the longest drive.” Margot began handing out boarding passes.
“Can we finally find out where we’re going?” Katie asked.
Margot laughed, “Yes, it’s finally time!”
Eliza opened her boarding pass and looked at the destination: Las Vegas. “Oh, this is so exciting!” Rooster is going to be so jealous. Eliza thought, smiling. “Let’s give you one last hurrah before your life ends in two weeks!”
The group cheered and went over to check in for their flight. Immediately through the gate, Halle and Diana noticed a restaurant offering two dollar mimosas, and the group went in. A few mimosas in, Eliza was feeling a bit bold and decided to text Rooster:
“We’re heading to Vegas, surprise surprise.”
Thinking for a moment, Eliza decided to send Rooster a picture. Holding up her phone and drink, Eliza snapped a quick selfie, staring at it for a second before pressing send.
“Is that for your new man?” Emma bumped Eliza’s shoulder with hers. “You look cute!”
Eliza laughed, “Thank you! It’s new enough that I’m still a little nervous.” She pressed send, and put her phone face down on the table, resolved not to keep checking it.
“Ooh, tell us all about him!” Margot called from a couple of seats down.
“Well, his name is Rooster–”
The group laughed. “Rooster?” Diana asked.
“He’s a fighter pilot and it’s his call sign. None of the pilots use their names, just their call signs.” Eliza laughed, trying to imagine calling Rooster ‘Bradley.’ “It just feels weird calling him by his first name, it would be like calling Lady Gaga ‘Stephanie.’”
Emma raised her hand, “Where did he get that nickname?”
Eliza felt herself flush, she quite didn’t know how to respond. “It’s because of his…you know.”
There was a collective gasp of surprise around the table and Emma asked, “What does that mean?”
“It’s… impressive.”
Several of the group cheered and clapped, including Margot. “That’s just what you deserve after the year you’ve had!” She smiled and raised her glass, “It may be my party, but I’d like to propose a toast to Eliza and her new, wonderful life.”
“Hear hear!” Eliza raised her glass with the rest of the time, “It’s amazing what getting rid of dead weight can do for your life.”
The group chatted and laughed, and Eliza had had a few more mimosas than she’d planned when Rooster texted her back.
“And it looks like you’re off to a good start.”
Eliza smiled at her phone, which did not go unnoticed by the group. “Ooh look at her all smiley and blush-y when her man texts.” Rachael joked.
“I mean, do you blame me?” Eliza laughed before noticing the time. “Oh, shit! We need to get to the gate.”
They rushed to their gate, stumbling and giggling slightly, and everyone was thrilled to find that the plane had a full cocktail menu. Margot stood up in her seat, wobbling slightly. “Alright, ladies.” She said in a loud whisper, “It’s only like an hour long flight, so you’re going to have to drink fast, got it?”
The group whooped softly, and Eliza sent off a text to Rooster:
“We’re about to take off, so you won’t be the only one in the skies, flyboy.”
“I’ll meet you!”
Eliza laughed, and feeling bold again, she snapped off another picture for Rooster. This time, she allowed herself to look a little more sultry, not bothering to pull her shirt up where it had slipped down. A little peek won’t hurt him. She thought to herself, feeling cheeky.
“Come get me!”
“Alright, welcome aboard, passengers!” The stewardess was beginning the safety presentation, and Eliza had to put her phone into airplane mode before Rooster replied. Why is it always that he can’t reply for a long time after the risky texts? She wondered, forcing herself to watch the attendants gesture at the emergency exits and chewing the inside of cheek.
“Our estimated landing time is 4:15 pm, for a flight time of one hour and eight minutes.” The stewardess’s voice rang out slightly shrilly through the tinny speakers. “Please fasten your seatbelts and place your tray table in the upright position as we begin our taxi to the runway.”
Eliza leaned back in her seat and Emma leaned across Rachael to whisper to Eliza in her aisle seat. “When do you think they’ll bring the booze around?” She whispered, slurring a little bit.
“I don’t know if I want to drink anymore, honestly.” Eliza was feeling dizzy and nauseous, and her jitters over the text weren’t helping.
“Boo!” Rachael hissed. “No fun!”
Eliza considered for a moment, A drink may take the edge off. She thought. “Maybe you’re right.”
Rachael and Emma cheered quietly as the plane began climbing. Eliza’s thoughts turned to Rooster and she watched the altitude meter on the screen at the front of the plane. At any moment, they could be at the exact same altitude, and the thought made Eliza feel closer to Rooster. Suddenly, Eliza realized she was missing him already. Running her fingers through her hair, Eliza thought, It’s been less than twenty four hours. Why did he have that effect on her?
The plane had finally reached cruising altitude and the drinks cart was coming down the aisle towards the group, and soon, Eliza had a vodka soda with two limes in her hand and her nerves about Rooster were easing every second. “Margot, what are we doing?”
Margot turned around with an evil grin on her face. “Tonight, we’re going out on the town and letting off some steam, and then tomorrow we’ve got a spa date, and then before we leave town the next day, we’re doing a fabulous morning tea at a bougie little shop!”
“That all sounds great, Margs!” Diana clapped her hands, “I’m sure there are no surprises in store for us at all.”
Margot tapped her fingers together menacingly, and Eliza called, “Leave it to Margot to plan her own bachelorette trip and make it one for the history books!”
A woman was passing by on her way to the bathroom, stopping when she overheard them talking, “Pardon me, ladies, but did you say you're on your way to a bachelorette party?”
“We are indeed!” Margot said, grinning. “And I’m the bride!”
“Congratulations, sweetheart! I just wanted to say that I went to Vegas for my bachelorette party, where I met my husband!” The woman said, smiling slyly.
Eliza’s jaw dropped, “Did you say you met your husband at your bachelorette party?”
The woman nodded, still smirking. “Just keep your eyes peeled and your options open, ladies.” She started to walk back down the aisle, turning to look over her shoulder, “What happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay in Vegas.”
Margot turned back to face everyone with a shocked look on her face. “Please don’t let me leave Jason.”
The group laughed, and Halle called back, “You better not!”
By the time the plane landed, Eliza was fully drunk, considerably more drunk than she’d been in a long time. “Are we going to make it to baggage claim?” She slurred, standing up unsteadily.
“Form a chain, ladies.” Margot said, taking Halle’s hand, giggling.
They walked through the airport, loosely clinging to each other and cackling as they walked to get their bags. When they had loaded into their Uber, Eliza realized she hadn’t checked her phone since they’d landed. Taking it off airplane mode, Eliza got three notifications: two texts from Rooster and one from Phoenix. Deciding to keep herself in suspense a little longer, Eliza opened Phoenix’s text first:
“I would say I don’t know what’s gotten into Rooster, but I know it’s you. He nailed every flight today.”
Eliza clutched her phone to her chest, feeling a hint of relief about the mission. She hurriedly shot off a reply and took a deep breath opening her messages from Rooster. Much to her excitement, Rooster had sent Eliza a picture of him, leaning against the bottom of a plane with his flight suit around his waist and his aviators on. The message with it read:
“I looked for you, but I couldn’t find you!”
“Oh my God!” Emma was looking over Eliza’s shoulder at the picture. “You’re a lucky bitch, Liza.”
Eliza giggled, “He’s something isn’t he?” Saving the picture, she set it as her phone background. “I’ll just keep that on display for everyone’s viewing pleasure.” She said with a smirk.
“You’re really not very territorial for someone who just got cheated on.” Emma said, smiling.
“It’s different with Rooster.” And Eliza meant it. Everything felt different where Rooster was concerned, he was just different than anyone else Eliza had ever known.
“We’re here!” Margot sang, clapping her hands as they pulled up to their hotel. The building was tall and beautiful, with white stucco walls and large windows. “Welcome to our chateau!”
Piling out of the car with their luggage, the group gathered in the hotel lobby waiting for Margot to check them in and hand out room keys, and explain the plan for the evening. “Everyone has their own room, so we have a whole wing all to ourselves!” Margot said, “We’ve got dinner reservations in an hour and a half, and the dress code is fancy whore.”
The group cheered and disbursed to their rooms. Eliza walked in and found pink walls with white furniture and heart themed decorations everywhere. “It’s like Cupid died in here.” Eliza muttered, inspecting the remote, which had a pink plastic cover on it. Already exhausted and quite drunk, Eliza flopped back on the bed, surprising herself with her phone background and allowing herself to drool over Rooster for a second. He was gorgeous, even in a sweat-stained tank top. Sighing, Eliza walked over to her suitcase, digging around for a ‘fancy whore’ dress, before deciding on a simple, short black slip dress. Still a little buzzed, Eliza stood in front of her full length mirror and snapped a picture of herself to send to Rooster.
“If you were told that the dress code ‘fancy whore,’ would you think this works?”
Eliza chuckled to herself nervously, praying she wasn’t being too bold, before slipping her phone into her bag and heading down to the lobby.
Rooster’s mouth was dry at the picture Eliza had just sent him. It’s the dress from the dream! He couldn’t believe it was real and that she was not only wearing it, but she was sending him pictures of her in it. Quickly, Rooster replied:
“I don’t know how to answer that question, but you do look amazing.”
Rooster ran his hand over his forehead. Why am I so worked up? He asked himself. “Bradshaw!” Rooster whipped around to see Bates with a confused looking Hangman following behind him. “Come with me.”
“Yes sir.” Rooster fell in step behind Bates next to Hangman, shooting him a confused look and being met with a shrug.
They walked into the hangar, and Bates motioned for them to sit down at the front table. “I’ve got some pertinent new information for you gentleman.” Bates pursed his lips.
“What is it?” Hangman asked, tapping his fingers on the table nervously.
Bates sighed, “You’re going to be hitting another target after the first one.” Rooster groaned, dropping his head back. “We’ve discovered another camp a few miles away from your original target, and it appears to be where they store their munitions.”
Rooster sat up, “So we could potentially end their defense before they even get a chance to mount it?”
“That’s the idea, but they’ll know you’re coming and we still don’t know much about its defenses. It’s entirely possible you could be flying into a firefight.” Bates replied. “I know you haven’t had the opportunity to practice this, and I want to make it clear that we don’t know the level of risk this holds.” Bates sighed, “I’m giving you a chance to say no, gentlemen.” He said softly.
Hangman looked at Rooster blankly. “What do we do?”
“I don’t know, man.” Rooster looked at him seriously. “I think we can do it.”
Hangman blinked hard, “Are you serious?”
“We’re not doing this unless you’re both on board.” Bates said, visibly nervous.
Hangman thought for a moment. “Okay, fine.”
“So we agree?” Rooster asked.
“I can’t believe you’re the one talking me into this.” Hangman scoffed. “But yes.”
Bates nodded. “Alright gentlemen, you’re going to need to stay for some extra practice tonight then.”
Rooster groaned, “No more push ups though, right?”
“We don’t have time.” Bates replied, already walking away from them. Noticing that Rooster and Hangman hadn’t moved, Bates turned back, “What are you waiting for?”
“Yes sir.” Hangman and Rooster scrambled to their feet and hurried back to their jets. Rooster paused for a moment, considering texting Eliza, when Hangman called over his shoulder, “Are you coming?”
Rooster groaned, dropping his phone into his bag by the door, “Right behind you.”
Loud music was pumping through the club, and Eliza was happily dancing with her friends and finding new levels of drunkenness that she hadn’t experienced since her college days. Barely even processing the difference between songs anymore, Eliza felt like the night was just one long movement until it was suddenly interrupted by last call. Boos rang through the club as drunken patrons filed out. “What do you say, gang?” Margot slurred as they gathered outside. “Find a new party or go home?”
“What time is the spa thing?” Katie asked.
Margot groaned, “Like 8:30.”
Eliza wrinkled her nose. “I say bed.”
The group murmured their assent and Margot replied, “Home it is! I’ll summon a ride.”
Once the group had piled into an Uber again, Margot poked Eliza in the side, “Call your man, I want to say hello.”
“He’s probably still flying!” Eliza replied, feeling nervous.
“At this hour?” Diana leaned across Margot.
Eliza nodded, “If he’s not flying, he’s probably sleeping.”
“Then we shall leave a message!” Margot answered.
“Fine.” Eliza sighed, pulling out her phone. “But I'll talk first!” Margot nodded and Eliza called Rooster, holding the phone up to her ear apprehensively.
“Speakerphone!” Margot cried.
“Not yet!” Eliza held up her hand, listening as Rooster’s voicemail message played: “You’ve reached Lieutenant Bradshaw. Leave a message.” Eliza ran a hand over her chin, “Voicemail, I told you guys.”
“Speaker phone message!” Margot clapped her hands.
“Okay, okay. Then you guys be quiet—“ Beep! “Hey Rooster sorry to call you at this terrible hour but Margot wants to say hi to you and she absolutely insisted—“
“Rooster!” Margot interrupted Eliza, grabbing her phone. “Rooster, listen to me. Eliza is the best person in the world and if you hurt her, you don’t even need to worry about what I do to you, because she’s also the scariest person in the world.”
Eliza laughed, reaching for her phone. “Okay, Margot, give it back.”
“And!” Margot continued, “And you’re very handsome and we’re very happy you and Eliza are together, right ladies?”
The whole car cheered as they pulled up to the hotel, and their Uber driver, sounding rather irritated, said, “Alright, you’re here. Have a good night and congratulations to whoever.”
“Okay bye, Rooster!” Margot yelled into the phone, hanging it up.
“Okay then.” Eliza laughed, slipping out of the car and stumbling into the elevator. “I’m excited for that to be his first impression of you, Margot.”
“I’m okay with it.” Margot smiled, looking slightly cross eyed. “I’ll meet him for real at the wedding and then I’ll get drunk in front of him for real at the after party!”
“Speaking of which,” Eliza lowered her voice and leaned in, “Is Grady going to be in attendance at the after party?”
Margot nodded gravely, “I couldn’t say no to Lucas, I’m sorry.”
“I understand!” Eliza wrapped her arms around Margot. “That’s part of the reason I’m bringing Rooster.” She giggled.
Stumbling into her room, Eliza suddenly had the thought of calling Rooster again. Knowing he wouldn’t answer, Eliza decided to call him, listening to his voicemail message again.
“Hey Rooster, it’s me. I’m sorry about Margot and calling you in the middle of the night twice now. I set that picture you sent me as my phone background and I got compliments all night.” Eliza slurred, “Anyway, I would say that Margot isn’t weird, but she is. Good night, I lo—“ Eliza laughed, “I almost said ‘I love you!’” She laughed again, “Well good night for real, I heard you’ve been killing it today.”
Eliza hung up and flopped back onto her bed, feeling another rush of nerve come over her, she held up her phone, snapping another selfie to send to Rooster with the message:
“I’m going to keep sending you pictures of myself as long as I keep getting pictures of you back.”
Feeling satisfied with herself, Eliza forced herself to go through some semblance of her night time routine, groaning as she set her alarm for 7:15. I hope I don’t regret that tomorrow. Eliza thought as she fell asleep.

REQUEST
@borhapgirlforlife19 - Can I request a fluffy Joe Mazzello x fem. reader long oneshot where reader wakes up and hears laughter and finds Joe in their daughter’s room having a tea party with their 2 year old daughter and as she watches her adorable family, reader remembers how she met Joe at college when she accidentally bumped into him and he helped her pick up her books and when she looked up at him it was love at first sight?
Y/N stirred from sleep. She was halfway into slumber when another faint tinkle of laughter rang through to her pulling her awake. She pushed herself up and rubbed her eyes before looking around the room to find that she was alone. Joe who should’ve been sleeping beside her was gone and as another laugh rang out from down the hall she figured she knew where he was. Slipping out of bed she padded gently out of the room and down the hall. As she peered into her daughter's room through the slightly ajar door she could see Joe and her daughter sitting at the small table and chairs inside.
Joe was sipping a cup of air, his pinkie extended, as Eliza shrieked in laughter.
‘Oh my lady,’ Joe said in a high nasal voice, ‘this tea is delightful. It’s a shame our dear Eliza cannot have any.’
‘Daddy,’ Eliza said reaching for the cup out of Joe’s hand. He raised it above his head as he continued to tease her, ‘no this tea is for Daddy’s only.’
She stood now, her big hazel eyes now narrow, and her face scrunched up in concentration as she reached a pudgy hand out trying to pull it from his grasp, ‘now, blue bear and I suppose she could have some if…’
‘What?!’ Eliza said with frustration.
‘She gives Daddy a big kiss,’ he said. Eliza reached her hands up to either side of Joe’s face as he leaned down so she could place a sloppy kiss on his lips. Joe chuckled and offered his cup down to her and she grabbed at it. Pushing it up to her lips and sucking on the air inside with excitement.
Y/N smiled at the pair of them who had seemingly not noticed that she was standing in the doorway as they were far too enamoured in each other. As Eliza offered the cup to her teddy, blue bear, Y/N’s mind travelled back to a familiar memory.
She had been on her way to a lecture. Autumn had well and truly landed on campus, bringing torrential rain and winds that threatened to blow all students away should they need to go outside to get around campus. Unfortunately, this was Y/N’s circumstance. Her psychology lecture had just ended and she needed to get practically a mile away to get to her next one. She stood at the door of the psychology building watching as the rain bounced down so hard it ricocheted upwards making even men of 6ft wet from the ground up. People were running in and out beside her but she didn’t want to take the risk. She liked being warm. And dry.
As she checked her watch she noticed that the lecture was going to start any minute. She needed to make a decision. Finally, she decided to brave the cold and launched herself out of the doors but as she did she ran straight into someone who knocked her bag and books flying. Brand new textbooks clattered out of her hands and into a puddle at her feet and her bag fell off her shoulder spilling its contents all over the sidewalk.
‘Oh my god,’ she shrieked as she bent down and started throwing things back into her bag.
‘Sorry about that,’ the man said.
‘Sorry!?’ she said irately. She shoved everything into her bag and he grabbed her textbooks before the pair of them darted inside back under the cover of the building.
‘I didn’t see you there,’ he said as he handed her back her sodden textbooks. Y/N’s face fell as she took in the state of her brand new very expensive books.
‘Well you didn’t look very well did you,’ she grumbled.
‘Honestly, I was just trying to avoid the rain,’ he said nervously.
As she looked up she took him in properly. He was cute she had to admit. His hazel eyes were watching her worriedly though his mouth was turned up in a slight smirk that made a funny feeling rise in her stomach. She was sure that his hair was light brown but it was wet making it look darker. He was a little way taller than her but of average build, though he had an air of boyish charm she could feel luring her in. She was cold from the draft the door was making and her now wet outfit but she was slowly and surely warming up from the inside out the more he smiled at her.
‘Well I guess I can’t blame you for that,’ she said offering a small smile.
‘No you can’t,’ he said, ‘but me knocking you flying you can blame me for.’
‘Oh I one hundred per cent do blame you for that,’ she chuckled, ‘and I can blame you that I’m now nearly ten minutes late for my next lecture.’
‘Oh yeah?’ he asked.
‘Yeah, I mean me not leaving absolutely no time to get myself across campus because I didn’t want to go outside is nothing to do with it,’ she chuckled.
‘Of course,’ he said, ‘I’m sure that’s my fault somehow too.’
‘Well we can always stick to that story if my professor asks,’ she giggled.
‘Well in that case I suppose I’m going to have to make it up to you,’ he said with a smile.
‘Oh definitely,’ she said.
‘And how would a guy like me do such a thing,’ he replied.
‘Well you could tell me your name?’ she said.
‘Joe,’ he said, ‘and you are?’
‘Y/N,’ she said.
‘Am I off the hook yet?’ he asked.
‘Not a chance,’ she giggled.
As Y/N looked back on her memory she smirked. She had loved Joe from the moment the pair of them had met. She could never quite get over how a random wet autumn day could impact someone’s life so much. She and Joe had gone on a coffee date instead of her lecture. A proper date just two days later and were an item by the end of that month. He had proposed to her in just over a year of being a couple and they’d married a few years back. Eliza had blitzed into their lives not long after.
She was pulled back into reality as she heard her daughter squeal, ‘Mommy!’
Joe whipped around and smiled at her nervously. She didn’t know why, seeing them playing together had melted her heart.
‘Sorry babe,’ he said, ‘did we wake you?’
‘No,’ Y/N said, ‘I was already stirring.’
‘Eliza demanded we play tea party so,’ he said gesturing to the table in front of him which was laid out for tea with her stuffed animals. Y/N moved into the room and stood beside her husband who now seemed altogether too big for the chair he was sitting in, not that she had noticed before now.
‘Oh yeah I’m sure it was her who wanted it,’ Y/N jibed jutting her hip out so it nudged the back of him. Joe looked up at her with a smile as she added, ‘was it also her idea to get all of her toys out this early?’
‘What can I say? I’m a sucker for a pretty girl.’

~~~~~
‘12 walked silently up to the door with the large yellow star, taking a deep breath before pushing it open, voice even softer than her footsteps. “Miss Eliza... t-the papers you asked for?”
Eliza looked up from her desk, humming thoughtfully as she watched the girl.
“Good girl ‘12, come here.”
‘12 obeyed, of course, setting the papers on the desk in front of her. It was about a new recruit they were looking at, a romantic who had been for sale. Of course they didn't have any intentions on buying him. Simply getting his location to pick him up themselves.
“Always so fast for me ‘12. Have you been saving your voice?”
She opened her mouth to answer verbally before shutting it, nodding a bit.
“Good girl. You have three bets on you to win tonight.”
“Oh… that’s-”
“‘7 has four bets.”
‘12’s stomach sank at that. They had three days to practice. Had it only been three days since this whole ordeal had started?
~~~~~
‘7 and ‘12 had never really gotten along. Or, ‘7 never got along with ‘12. Despite being two of the favorites, things between them quickly turned to competition.
Even over this silly talent show. Only ten girls were competing, eight from other studios or troupes. Ryker, one of the other directors, signed them both up for 'distraction.'
Ryker strode into her office much to cheerfully, whistling a happy little song. “Eliza, will you look over these forms?”
“Mmm... Who are you signing up, and for what?” She glanced up skeptically.
“It’s a very small singing competition in Bozman. I’m signing ‘7 and ‘12 up.” He leaned over, handing her a couple of papers. Pointing at the [Specified Song] section, which he had taken the liberty of already filling out. “I was thinking we would give ‘12 Lifeboat.”
“Lifeboat… from Heathers? I don’t think ‘12 would be able to handle that.”
“Oh, I know.” Ryker chuckled, smirking a little. “However. We need to push ‘12 out of her comfort songs. Especially if we do Lightning Thief. We need that power for her voice. Besides, since when do we set them up for consistent success."
“True true… ok. What are we giving to ‘7 then?”
“It’s called Burned. An emotionally driven song which will take a lot of control to sing.”
“Alright, I don’t exactly agree with the choices, but, I’ll let it slide." She tapped her fingers lightly against her desk before tilting her head. "Hm. This is the same night as our acquisition of ‘21. Do you think that's a good idea?”
“Mhm. Besides, it will give us some extra alibis if we were to get caught. Don’t worry Eliz. I know what I'm doing.”
The worst part about this competition was that ‘12 didn’t know if the directors were trying to favor one of them over the other. They had both been given challenging songs outside of their normal comfort zones.
Well, ‘7 didn’t necessarily have a ‘comfort zone.’ Whatever she was told to within her vocal range, she could, almost instantly too. Even outside of singing Eliza adored her. She held her head high, she walked and waved with elegance Which only pointed out to the directors how poor of a job everyone else was doing. Eliza constantly used her as an example of: The perfection they strived for.
The worst part about her though, was ‘7 knew how good she was. Self-confidence that only a few of them had. ‘12 would give up most anything for half the confidence like hers, it’s what made her voice so incredible.
When he had set them down and given them the songs they both smiled and nodded. Not asking questions, though the moment he left ‘7 growled, fist slamming into the wall.
“What the hell is this song… Did you set this up?!”
“Wha- no.” ‘12 frowned. "Hey, I didn't get what I wanted either..."
'7 thrust herself into '12's space, her angry eyes watching the fear in '12's face. “Hmm. You’d better let me win.” She pulled away, walking to their room.
“Well… what if they want me to win Clarisse?” ‘12 whispered.
‘7, Clarisse, looked back. After a moment tilting her head and smirking. “Fine. You think you can compete with me. We’ll see who’s better. Winner takes all. Three days of food rations.”
‘12 regretted opening her mouth. “Uhm... Ok…”
~~~~~
Training for this song hadn’t been the easiest, and ‘12 had been told to save her voice the whole day before performing. She did speak, mostly because she had forgotten instructions… god she hoped she wouldn’t be punished for that. Eliza was in a good mood though, and Ryker was busy, so she felt safe.
Eliza rubbed her arm gently before letting go. “Get ‘7 and tell her to get ready. I’m taking you and the others to your events.”
“Yes, Miss…” She curtsied gracefully before disappearing without another word.
Eliza hummed while looking down at the papers ‘12 had brought her. This would be the 21st in their little theater troupe. She wanted to check his status and scanned through everything.
The sweet romantic had brown curly hair and gorgeous blue eyes. Hiding behind a thin pale face, a practiced smile practically plastered across his face.
His owners were selling him for the same price they bought him for, which she had assumed, was stupid. No one wanted a used romantic for anything near that much.
She stopped, staring at the paper with a puzzled frown.
Apparently, she was wrong. Someone did.
[Purchased. Negotiations are no longer available.]
She couldn’t risk it. Little ‘Joel’ could already be gone and he was much too beautiful to be hidden beneath bed covers.
She called her coworker. Fingers softly tapping on the edge of her desk. “Ryker… go ahead with the plan a bit early... yes during the talent show.”
~~~~~
At the competition, a couple others from the studio were allowed backstage, but no directors. ‘1 was always reliable and got along very well with ‘3, the others knew them as Ben and Paige. ‘12 was lucky to be with them rather than anyone else. They sat against the wall with ‘12 as Clarisse fixed makeup before going to the stage. She was second in the competition so was up right away.
“You're scared, love?” ‘1 watched her thoughtfully, tilting his head. Not really a question.
She nodded softly. “Clarisse is so much better than me, and…”
“No, no, no. None of that before going on stage, hon.” ‘3 went over and wrapped her arm around her.
Ben and Paige had been in the theater group for years. All of the others learned they were a good go-to for any issues or problems. They were the most trusted and respected of everyone.
“You,” Paige said, gently wiping her cheek. “Are going to do amazing.”
“I-”
“And Miss Eliza is gonna be SO proud of you. Just like we are.” ‘12 sniffled before leaning against her. “No crying love. It’ll ruin your makeup.” She gently scolded. So much kinder than the directors, ‘12 found herself laughing weakly.
Ben took her hand and gently rubbed it. “Don’t worry yourself. Just go out, show them how beautiful your voice is, and come back. They won’t get too mad over this. It's just a small talent show. Nothing big. Nothing’s on the line.”
“There are bets…”
“Just between the directors." He interrupted before she could continue spiraling. "Most people don’t know about these small events. It’s ok. Don’t think about them. Just think about your song and your emotions. Ok?”
“Ok.” She leaned against Paige as the opening piano chords for Clarisse’s song began.
“~oh how I have grown… I. Am Capable of everything you can see. But now, I want to change~”
Her voice rose on cue with the piano before bursting out gently into a louder key. It had to be perfectly controlled, not too much or the beauty of it would be lost. A fine line that was a little difficult for the advanced singer.
Eliza smiled softly from the audience. ‘7 was careful, and she was doing magnificently. She had to pull her eyes away from her to check on Ryker’s location.
He was already at the house of the little romantic named Joel. He had taken five of the others to help with the break-in.
This song was beautiful with the single spotlight. No movement from ‘7, not yet. Staying still just as she was supposed to. There was beauty in not moving, in staying still, it forced her to stay focused on her voice.
‘9 rounded the house. Picking up a rock and humming before chucking it at one of the top windows, it shattered instantly.
The chorus once again. ‘7’s singing became slightly louder than the first. Then the bridge.
Another rock. This time downstairs. Shouting from the owners.
Movement began on the stage too, moving closer to the audience, entrancing them with every perfected step.
Ryker yelled now, the others were on the move. ‘14 striking a match.
‘7 moved closer, hand lifting higher…
‘9 dove into a bush as the owners shined a flashlight outside, ‘11 running to help cover him.
“Good girl…” Eliza whispered softly, smiling gently from the audience.
“You don’t play with fire… but you’re already burned. You’re already burned~”
When the spotlight faded to black the audience roared in applause.
Everyone in the room was completely unaware that at that very moment, a fire roared only a few miles away.

CATCHING MY BREATH, STARING OUT AN OPEN WINDOW
Robert ‘Robbie’ Valentino is based on Robbie from Gravity Falls. He is a 29 year old human, music store employee and musician and uses he/him pronouns. He has no powers. Robbie is portrayed by Kiowa Gordon and he is open.
CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE
Robbie was an only child of two less-than-attentive parents who never really felt the need to teach him any sort of rules or discipline, kind of allowing him to raise himself and “toughen-up” by experiencing the world head on. He was picked on a lot as a kid for his appearance, especially during puberty where he struggled heavily with self-consciousness issues. He desperately attempted to ‘fit-in’ and be accepted by his peers, but he was rejected by most of the kids his age, cast to the wayside for being ‘weird,’ especially given as he didn’t really know a lot about societal norms. There was really only one place where Robbie felt like he belonged… and that was in music class. Robbie became obsessed with music, specifically the guitar, and dedicated time that would otherwise be spent with attempts at making friends practicing scales, chords, learning solos… It was in after-school band where he found his people, a rag-tag group of rejects that knew loneliness Robbie was all too familiar with. They formed their own band, and Robbie took his ‘outcast’ title in stride. He began to care less for the rules he was expected to learn on his own, turning to rebellion as an emotional outlet and a way to keep his new friends entertained. He even started dating Wendy Corduroy, someone he has had a crush on since he was a kid. Finally, life felt like it was looking up. This attitude carried heavily into his adulthood, refusing to accept that he was growing up and would need to get it together at some point. He had a falling out with his parents, not that there was much there to lose to begin with, and so he poured almost all of his attention into his music— something that complicated him and Wendy’s relationship heavily. Him and his band, Robbie and the Tombstones, frequently played at a local spot in Gravity Falls which is how he made most of his income… however, when his on-again off-again girlfriend disappeared, for once in his life, Robbie had to take some kind of responsibility. In the process of looking for her, he ended up trapped in Evermore… forced to settle down and figure his life out for once upon realization there was no escaping back to his old life. It was a challenge, still very much immersed in his apathetic, cold and moody teenage mindset despite being a grown man, but he made … somewhat of an effort. He got a job at the music shop, giving guitar lessons and trying to make a living out of what he loved. He’s been making his best efforts to get a new band together, learn about paying bills and being somewhat responsible, but he has never had to be an actual adult before. Robbie’s trying his best, at least he thinks he is, but it isn’t his fault no one in Evermore gets him…
I HAD A FEELING SO PECULIAR
❀ Chip Skylark: This guy knows what’s up; being all about the music, the persona, the vibe… Chip is someone Robbie believes he’d be rejected by, so he looks up to him from a distance. One day he’s really hoping the two of them can be friends, maybe collab on something, but whenever he comes into the music shop it’s hard for Robbie not to get star-struck. ❀ Elisabeth ‘Eliza’ Thornberry: She reminds him a lot of Wendy; super adventurous, grew up in the outdoors, is super hot… Whenever she’s around, Robbie finds it a lot harder to be moody, and he isn’t sure how he feels about that. Not moody, that’s for sure. ❀ Charles ‘Chuckie’ Finster: Though this guy was a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, Robbie was determined to turn him into his rebellious little protégé, teach him art of breaking a few rules and letting loose. Chuckie was someone Robbie desperately wanted to take under his wing… and see him as cool.
THAT THIS PAIN WOULD BE FOR EVERMORE

I’m at work today, but it’s my home care job and the baby’s asleep, so have this little snippet I haven’t been able to work into anything else (but it’s been living in my head forever).
I love writing little Eliza so much, y’all. (Also, the scenario with her and Della was inspired by one of Allie Brosch’s stories in “Solutions and Other Problems.”)
——
Like most mothers, Bentina was particular about who she chose to leave her daughter in the care of. Unlike those same mothers, however, she had legimate reasons to believe her daughter might be in danger anytime she wasn’t under Bentina’s watchful eye.
Scrooge McDuck was one of the very few people Bentina trusted with Eliza (or at all), along with his butler, Duckworth. As annoying as Duckworth could be, he was loyal to a fault. If she had to leave Eliza for any length of time, McDuck Manor was the safest place for her to be. Plus, she had children her own age to play with there. Bentina had always wanted to give Eliza a sibling, but fate had determined that wasn’t meant to be.
She let herself into the manor as she arrived back from her latest mission, pausing as she found her eleven-year-old daughter tied to an office chair in the front room. Despite the circumstances, Eliza didn’t look terribly distressed. Della Duck popped out from behind the couch, very seriously telling Bentina, “Don’t untie her. She likes it.”
Sure enough, within a few moments, Eliza wriggled around like an expert and escaped her bonds, hurrying over to hug her mother. “Hi.”
Bentina patted the girl’s head, nodding approvingly. She had steadfastly refused to train Eliza in the ways of espionage, beyond basic self-defense, because she’d wanted her to have the chance to be a little girl. Still, Eliza was resourceful...maybe it was time to start. “Nice technique.” She picked Eliza up to greet her with a proper hug. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Mama.”

54 - Getting What They Deserve

“Raelyn, I can’t do this!” Hayley gasped with me holding her hand while she giving birth to her baby.
Brushing hair behind her face Jacob came in with Klaus standing outside with the girls on the porch in the bayou. “Yes you can. I got through it and so will you.”
“Hayley, you are strong and we will get through this together.” He reassured her, squeezing her other hand in his.
Hayley started pushing through the pain with the older werewolf grandmother who was helping her through the pregnancy. She screamed at the top of her lungs until we heard a baby’s cry through the cabin. “Congrats Hayley. You and Jacob have a baby girl.”
She smiled, laying her head on Jaocb’s chest struggling to stay awake. “Can I hold her?”
The grandmother nodded, placing her in her arms where she cried softly through some tears. She sat up a little while holding the baby in her lap. Klaus peaked his head inside with the three girls standing in between his legs. “So when’s the wedding, Mate?”
“Uh we haven’t talked about that.” Jacob stuttered, rubbing the back of his neck.
Hayley kissed the baby’s forehead mumbling under her breath. “Andrea….Andrea Eliza Lane.” The baby had her eyes but you could see my brother's hair color.
Walking over to Nik I intertwined his hand where he leans against mine. He stared down at me then moved his gaze over to the new infant. “Your mother would like that she used her name.”
“Yeah she would…Hayley just so you know. Klaus and I will always protect you and the baby. Because I will never abandon my brother ever.” I sniffed through tears where I wiped away tears with my sleeve.
Hayley and Jacob both looked up at me smiling with the young infant giggling throwing her hands up in the air. “Thank you, Raelyn.”
Thunder roared in my vampire ears where Klaus and our clothes were almost soaked from the pouring rain. “We have to make them suffer, Klaus.” Stomping around in front of him and Dahlia. Once we had removed the dagger we headed straight for her since he slightly agreed that she could help me teach the girls.
“And we will, Raelyn.” He responded by taking my hands into his where I tilted my head to the side.
Opening my mouth I felt my fangs breaking through my gums. The burning sensation ran through the back of my neck. “Awe…I need blood Nik. But I can’t have blood from the vein again. I…can’t control myself.”
Dahlia entered the room with the three of us standing in the middle of an empty alleyway. “I assumed you would be hungry. You both will need your strength for what comes next.” She turned her head revealing a large crowd of people clearly compelled.
“I've never been daggered. Never knew it was such an agonizing experience. It does help explain why my siblings loathe me.” He told her looking in my direction seeing that our link now caused us more harm than good. If he could be daggered then so could I.
“I….I will go ripper on them.” I shuttered moving behind Nik gripping his arm feeling the pain getting worse where I wanted to feed.
He reached down, clasping my hand in his nuzzling his nose against mine. “Easy Raelyn. Let go for once. I’ll pull you back if you can’t handle it.”
Sucking in a breath my fangs truly came out where I vamped forward shoving my fangs into the blonde girl drinking her almost dry. Then I went between two guys ripping through their necks until they were dead. Klaus followed after me where you could hear all the heartbeats and when they stopped. Finally we vamped up to one another.
He had blood on his mouth too where he reached up, taking some off of me moving his other hand to my neck. I watched his eyes flash gold nuzzling his nose into my neck whispering. "I want to know what your blood tastes like, Little siphon."
"What's stopping you?" I teased moving my hair so he could bite me.
"Because my wolf side could kill you." He mumbled lifting his head up, locking eyes with me ignoring the evil witch behind us.
Wrapping my arms around his neck I kissed him twisting my fingers into his hair hearing him moan into the kiss. "Your blood is the cure, Klaus. I'll take from you and you take from me."
"Blood sharing is...intimate...personal love." He breathed out like I would back down.
"Nothing as intimate as giving you my virginity, Nik. Unless you're waiting until we can have victory sex after we get revenge on Elijah and the others." I smirked before he hooked my legs around my waist, vamping me against the wall kissing me hungrily.
Everything felt right, his hands and lips on mine. Blood mixing together where he started kissing my neck slowly then smashing his lips onto mine briefly sitting me back on the ground resting his forehead against mine. "As much as I want to, my darling wife. I wish for this be when we're alone."
"Fair enough, my husband. Now as for you. What exactly is the plan?" Moving around my husband I put my hands on my hips.
"We struck a bargain for the benefit of your children so that they would be delivered to me safely and be content by the presence of her father and mother. Make no mistake, I will take her with or without you." Dahlia snapped sternly.
Klaus came up with a smug look. "Let me be clear about one thing, witch. You need me. I know my siblings better than anyone, their strengths, their weaknesses. They are a powerful and determined lot, perhaps capable of evading you for the short year that you have until your slumber begins You may well loose everything, but I know how to vanquish those who stand against us, and that is exactly what I intend to do."
Dahlia shook her head. "The storm has served its purpose. Now enough delays. I will take what is owed to me, and if the mother resists or attempts to run, I will kill her myself."
"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that….Raelyn may have something planned for Hayley that's far worse than death." Klaus draped his arm over my shoulder leading the two of us out of the room and back to the compound.
I was coming downstairs by the time Klaus had fought with Elijah and he was laying on the floor about to pass out. Walking up to him I handed my blood bag to my husband raising my hands. "Raelyn, I'm sorry. This isn't what you and my brother are supposed to do."
"It's not your choice to decide what is best for us, Elijah." Twisting one of my hands I dragged him magically up to me holding his chin in one hand. "Dic mihi hva du vet. Invidium cala mactus…You came after my daughters!"
Elijah gasped seeing the same haunting dreams that Dahlia had put inside my head but I added some more where he accidentally killed them right in front of his eyes before I magically bind him to the wall walking over to my husband. "No….Raelyn please…I wouldn't kill him. I…Hope - Alina - Missy!"
"So what choice of torment do you wish to inflict on Hayley?" He asked me handing me my blood bag back.
Tearing a hole in it we turned our heads hearing a familiar heartbeat enter with the voice of Cami. "Klaus, Raelyn!"
"You shouldn't have come here, Camille." He warned her leaving my side.
She walked forward seeming afraid but she didn't run. "I came here because you need me. You need me to tell you that this... this is not you, and I know you are hurt, but please listen to me. You are better than this."
Dahlia entered the room coming back from working on the spell that I had in mind for the wolves. "Is there a problem?"
"Not at all. Just another victim." Klaus responded back slowly getting closer to her where I could see his fangs coming out.
"Klaus no…please she's my friend." I begged him about to rush forward and stop him but I froze in my spot.
Cami snapped her gaze at me with her heart beating quicker inside her chest then before. "No. Klaus, I know you won't hurt me. I have known that from the second we met. I trust you."
"Then you are already lost." He placed a hand on her cheek before he sank his fangs into her neck dropping her body onto the ground where I yanked my head the other direction.
Clutching the blood bag in my fingers I vamped off to the bayou in search of my brother when it was night out. The moon was full in the night sky but no wolves were forced to turn here anymore. "Jacob! Jacob - J!" Covering my hands over my mouth I holler his name searching around.
Entering the cabin they had I found him lying with a hand to his head confused. “Rae, what's happening?”
“You’re girlfriend took my daughters from me. I thought you knew about it.” Knitting my brows together I wasn’t sure why she wouldn’t tell him.
He began to get to his feet heading for the door. “Let’s go find her. I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding.”
Turning my head I watched little Andrea sleeping in her crib making me regret what I was about to do to her family. Yet it has to be done. “Sorry J, but I can’t let you get hurt….exspello.”
He ran forward smacking into a boundary spell when I vamped past him. “Uh! Rae, Raelyn no!”
“Like I said before, you will understand why I am doing this to protect you.” I slumped my shoulders seeing he was trying to siphon the spell but his hand burned the second he touched it when I vamped away leaving him. “I put a drop of my blood in the doorway. It will wear off when the sun rises tomorrow. And we both know I am the stronger twin.”
I found that Klaus had gotten there after me and he was fighting off most of the wolves like they were not hybrids like he was. He knocked one on the ground shaking his head at him where I believe his name was Jackson. “Ah. You have gotten stronger. I reckon you've gone from field mouse to lapdog.”
“Come on then.” Jackon, the werewolf with black curly hair waved his hand forward in a challenge. Hayley suddenly appeared where her and Nik began fighting until he managed to throw her onto the ground.
Dahlia moved out into the open. “Enough.”
“Why is she with you, Klaus?” Hayley asks him.
Dahlia offered me her hand where we both raised our hands up towards the crescent wolves. “Unlike some, he's doing what is best for his daughters.”
“I'm gonna skin you alive! Aah!” Her bones begin cracking. “What are you doing to us?”
Klaus bent down on his knees while the rest of the wolves began to turn into wolves by force even though they were hybrids. “Oh, this? No. This was mine and Raelyn’s idea, stealing from Marcel the Crescent curse he once used on your pack. Dahlia was all too happy to make the necessary adjustments to accommodate your hybrid nature. Now you will be trapped in wolf form, save for the full moon, leaving you very little time to cause any further mischief.”
Hayley cried with her back and knees breaking. “Aah!….Raelyn how could you do this to Jacob.”
“And because of my blood turning you and your pack there’s a sire bond. Meaning that you have no choice but to do what I say…, now they will share your fate, little wolf.” I removed my hand from Dahlia’s still being able to channel her magic for the spell.
She grunted when I grabbed her chin in my other hand. “Jacob will hate you…..Andrea…my daughter needs her mother!”
“You didn’t tell my brother about what you were doing. But I forgot to mention that there was a catch. You won’t turn into a wolf since my brother would hate me. Instead you will feel the pain your pack suffers during their time until the next full moon. And I’m the only one who can undo its curse.” Rising to my feet I stand beside Klaus watching the others turn without any control.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

would u help me out for a second. im in the mood to write for the first time, and i think your style is beautiful. sitting down n actually trying though, im stuck as fuck! i’m realizing that in your dialogue/scenes you’ve got a lot of Little Things. little tiny elements that are subtle & just enough. how are you deciding that lily is building a house of cards at the moment or sirius is sitting in a tree or whatever during a given scene? how do you come up with those ideas for dialogue that are so silly & real & sneakily tender? do you know where it’s going when you begin? any advice for just… starting something?
ps: i appreciate you. you make it look easy & that’s very very cool
This is a lovely question!! Sorry it took me so long to get to it, I didn’t want to get it wrong. Also I’ve included some examples to try and explain what I mean in practise, but it also comes off rather like plugging. tragically this is unavoidable. Anyway, all that being said I have no idea how to advise you about dialogue and coming up with it, I think just listening to people talk helps. Don’t forget contractions, and when in doubt always trust the reader to keep up, real people don’t say perfect or even grammatically correct sentences a lot of the time. We also cut each other off all the time, especially when we’re trying to be funny. Like, here’s an example from warm front:
“He’s not even two. He probably would have thought it was, like, having a lie down or something.”
Harry was laughing now, “A lie down?”
“Yeah, a spontaneous, truck-induced–“
“–Permanent–“ “
–Permanent, lie-down. I’m almost jealous now actually.”
Another thing, but people say um and like or can't speak or cut themselves off, especially when they’re nervous. James when Lily says she loves him for the first time: ‘“Wow,” He breathed, “I’m– wow.” He put both hands on her cheeks and kissed her crazy, abruptly, dumbly. Her head spun.’ He can’t even speak! Dumb boy.
I think natural dialogue sometimes just requires you to read it aloud, which is very embarrassing but ultimately quite useful in trying to figure out whether something sounds normal or not. Use casual words, and try not to go dictionary hunting: if you cant think of the word chances are your character can’t either
In terms of concepts I have no idea, but I do have a few tips. I write all my short one-shots in one document (its called ‘just bad’ lmao) so its easy to start something, write a few lines, and then if it doesnt work just start a new concept, but still have all the old stuff handy. if you feel like you’ve written yourself into a corner its probably because you took a wrong turn earlier, so its just a matter of going back up and figuring out where you turned onto the dead end, or where a line could be funnier and/or sadder and/or more meaningful. Sometimes the bare bones of a decent line is there but you have to work it a little.
In this harry/ginny thing where harry is apologising for all the attention and ginny brushes him off she says:
“It’s nothing,” her voice, all force, “Anyway, it’s more funny than annoying.”
The response went through a few drafts, all variations on the same thing:
(1) “You’re funnier.” [too short, doesn’t make sense, and not really that funny. unholy trinity]
(2) “You make it funny.” Harry said, looking at her for real, “It’s not– you make it like that.” [this could work! I have no idea why I cut this, I think I forgot abt it lmao]
(3) “You’re the funniest person I know, Harry said, sincerely, and Ginny felt her heartbeat all through her, “You make it funny.” [jumping from ‘its more funny than annoying’ to getting this sincere out of nowhere is a little much, even for harry who is famously whipped]
I ended up going with this:
“It’s nothing,” her voice, all force, “Anyway, it’s more funny than annoying.”
“You’re funny.” Harry said, looking at her for real, flustered, “I mean– you make it funny. That’s all you.”
It follows the flow of the conversation and I think the way he says it, ‘you’re funny’ like its obvious, and then being like oh fuck and over-explaining it stumbling a little “I mean– you make it funny. That’s all you.”. You know when you like someone and you say something that gives you away before you can stop yourself? I wanted it to sound like that. Just gotta keep in mind how people behave, we are so stupid a lot of the time, we give ourselves away.
The thing about short stuff i find is implying a lot of history without actually describing a lot of it. I normally do this by having memories come up as almost shards, one second of feeling. You know when you’re in a conversation with someone and they mention someone or a past event, and it rises to the top of your brain, but only for a second? i find sometimes when you’re reading stuff people will try and replay entire memories or events mid-conversation, which is not something you do when you think. You don’t need to replay it beat by beat, you were there! This sounds vague as hell so I’ll try and show you what I mean:
From good crimes: “Petunia is engaged.” Lily’s voice, raw and wrong, “To Vernon. Eliza Hunt told me at the supermarket.” Sudden flashes of Petunia, the only time he’d ever met her, sat in the back of Lily’s twenty-first, pinched and whispering. “Whose Eliza Hunt?” This seems as good a thing to say as any.
pretty on the nose (the phrase ‘sudden flashes’ is pretty so i'll allow it from past me). But see how you don’t need to know how Petunia didnt talk to anyone, how she left early, how she was the odd one out: you don’t need to read all that, you already know because she was sat in the back and because pinched is such a mean verb, spiteful and sharp, you can already imagine how the evening went without me saying so
From my proposal take, after Sirius finds out they’re engaged: Sirius’ grip on his shoulder tightened for one second, still grinning, and James knew what he meant. “I know.” He said, because only Sirius had been there for all of it, when they were fifteen, drunk on Firewhiskey for the first time and James had said I think I’ve fucked it, I think I’ve fucked it but I like her for real.
you don’t need a description of the whole night, what party they were at, who they were with, what they were talking about: the important bit is that Sirius was the first person he told, and that they’re both remembering that at the same moment because they’re soulmates lmao. You know when something big happens for a friend and you feel so full of pride & love that you feel like you’ll burst into confetti?? this needed to feel like that, and you only need a flash for it
I feel like I’ve sort of strayed off from what you asked me, which is really advice on how to start something. I normally start with a line, usually of dialogue, and then try and build from there because dialogue is my thing. You might have a different thing! Some people write from concepts or locations, or an image. i might start with one or a few lines of dialogue, write them down, and then try to build from there. For example for the proposal thing I started from james just saying “Marry me”, which I find more romantic than ‘will you marry me’, purely because it sounds like he simply couldn’t stop himself from saying it, like it rushed out. Another example, this thing started from just “don’t be mad at me” “okay” James agreed instantly, because he is such a sucker for her.
When I write I don’t normally know where I’m going! I normally set out to write something I think is vaguely funny and evokes An Emotion, and then I just play around with stuff until I get there. when I write certain stuff and I have scenes in mind, stuff I want to happen, but I find that if I try to plot it to tightly its not exciting to work on, because sometimes you write a good line by accident, that you hadn’t thought of when you sat down, and you surprise yourself. That is a really nice feeling! i want to maximise that feeling.
'What I mostly try to remember is that writing something down, anything down, is useful. Sometimes you write for a whole night and dont get anything useable, but its like clearing pipes. Sometimes you have to flush through shit to get to the good bits. All the rough stuff, the things you don’t like or didn’t work, you wrote to get you to the stuff that did work. All of the bad shit got you here! It wasn’t a waste, you were working to find the good thing
If I had any tips its just the usual stuff, read! It is annoying how much that helps. Also, and I know this may make you shudder, but reading poetry is useful just because in no other literary or media form is language so important. In comics you have pictures, in novels you have plot and character, in film you all that and cinematography, but in poetry you live and die by how good the words are. If you want recs here’s my poem roundup tag, that I do sometimes, or if you want something just now read this by Anne Carson, which uses words like ‘smashing’, ‘boatwash’, and ‘green’ in the best way possible. Also it has these lines: “Recently having learned to recognize the type of tree called sycamore, / I see them in any forest— / the ones that look harrowed, / in shreds, but / go also / straight up into life,”
I mean, think of a sharper image than that?? It’s not possible. Just try remember to stay true to your characters and that in real life, the little stuff is the big stuff. Little things the people around you do normally show they care more than big speeches, and if you want to show love that’s how to make it feel lived in. You want to build a world! the little stuff is usually the world. Take some from your own or dream the ones you wish you had.
This truly was a very kind message and I’m so grateful you like my stuff, I hope any of this was even half-useful, although now reading it back it is borderline nonsensical. I’m going to bed now, good luck with the writing, and don’t forget to send it to me!!
caro xoxo

Coming Home To You (Part 2)
AN: Kara is not Supergirl. She’s human and a reporter :)
Many of you have requested a part two so here you go! This is part of a book that I’m working on so enjoy this sneak peek
Tumblr media
“This was a mistake.” Lena paces around inside her penthouse.
Kara stands awkwardly in the middle of Lena’s living room. She watches her lover in distress, her mind running into a million thoughts. What would Alex say when she finds out? What would Eliza think of her when she finds out?
She betrayed her oldest sister. It looks bad but most importantly she feels terrible. Kara let her temptations get the best of her. She shouldn’t have gotten so close to Lena when (Y/N) was away. She shouldn’t have comforted her most of the time when they heard the news that (Y/N) went missing during a mission.
They shouldn’t have assumed that the person they care and love for was dead without any hard evidence.
“Did you know?! Did you know that she was alive this whole time?!” Lena yells at the blonde Danvers.
Kara was taken by surprise that Lena is yelling at her. She never yells at her. She never experienced her anger toward her.
“What? No! Of course not!” Kara quickly replies.
“How could you not know?! You literally write about international news, war stories, political topics, Kara!”
“I’m just a reporter, Lena! I’m not a damn government spy! When I heard about my sister going missing. . . I tried to find leads, Lena! I TRIED! Nothing came out. No trace. No witnesses. No clues of what happened to my sister and her team!”
Lena shakes her head in silence. Her tears were starting to form again. The young CEO thinks about the decisions she has made that have come to this very moment. She shouldn’t have accepted the youngest Danvers’ help and comfort when (Y/N) wasn’t around. She was a fool for falling for Kara’s touch and caring words.
She tragically replaced (Y/N)’s kisses with Kara’s.
“I need to find her. . . I need to find (Y/N).” Lena frantically says. “I just need to explain to her that this was a mistake. None of this was serious.”
Kara looks into the floor and shakes her head in disapproval.
“Lena . . .”
“I’m sure she’ll understand. She has always been reasonable, right? God where could she be. A local bar! I just need to look up the local bars. She can’t be far. I-”
“LENA!” Kara interrupted.
The raven haired stops rambling and looks at Kara with frustration.
“WHAT KARA?! I need to find your sister! I need to fix my relationship with her!”
“What about us?” Kara questions her actions, her reasoning.
Lena huffs out a laugh, “Us? There’s no us, Kara! This was a mistake. I MADE A MISTAKE. I love your sister, Kara. You know that!”
It pains Kara to hear those words coming out of Lena’s mouth. Kara fell in love with Lena. In all truth, she fell in love with her while you were dating Lena. She kept it to herself. The youngest Danvers didn’t want to ruin the relationship you have with Lena. She thought that you being “dead” was an opportunity for her to have a chance being with the young CEO.
Lena sobs, her knees falling to the ground. The stress and frustrations are getting to her. Kara didn’t hesitate to be by her side, comforting her the best she could without making the situation worse. Lena cries against Kara’s shoulder.
“It’s not ideal to go out and find my sister, Lena. We should probably wait until tomorrow. Let her cool off. I’ll find her first thing in the morning and make this right.”
“Okay.” Lena mumbles.
****
It’s been three whole days that you haven’t stepped out of your hotel room. You have cried endlessly. Scream multiple times. You even broke a couple of items in the room. You drank until you blackout and woke up repeating the same thing you did yesterday.
You have decided that you need to put your hurt feelings aside. You need to reunite with your family and friends. You mentally think about how you’re going to pretend that you didn’t see Kara and Lena a few days ago. You will keep your distance. You will maintain your cover.
Your captain has already arranged your new deployment. You will be leaving at the end of the month and have a new assignment to take over. Your plan is to just get away from here.
You've been in the bathroom for a while. Looking at yourself in the mirror. It’s obvious that it looks like you have gotten no sleep. You can just pass it off and just say that your military position doesn't give you enough sleep
You fix the imperfections of your new set of uniform before heading out. You take a deep breath and hope that no one catches you acting differently.
***
Location: Lena’s Office
“I can’t find her, Lena.” Kara desperately says.
Lena looks out to the window, standing straight as possible. She was keeping her distance from the youngest Danvers. She can’t trust herself being near the reporter.
“HOPE can’t find her too. The face recognition hasn’t picked up her face anywhere. . .”
Kara’s phone rings out loud. The reporter sighs because it’s her sister, Alex. She hasn’t talked to her since you confronted your youngest sister. Kara hopes that Alex hasn’t found out, she can’t bear to handle Alex’s lecture and disappointment.
Kara answers the call and puts it on speaker for Lena to hear as well.
Kara: “Hello?”
Alex: “Kara! Where are you?!” She said cheerfully.
Kara: “I’m following a lead for my article. Why what’s up?”
Alex: “(Y/N) is back! She’s alive, Kara! She’s alive!”
Kara fumbles her words, not knowing how to react or say. She didn’t want to ruin her sister’s excitement.
Alex: “Get over here at the DEO. J’onn have already picked up Eliza. They’re on their way back here. Bring Lena!”
The call ended without Kara saying another word. Alex was too happy and excited to see you again. She’s happy that she gets to see you “first.”
***
*A few hours earlier*
You didn’t head straight to the DEO to surprise your sister, Alex. You made a quick stop despite the situation you were in. The Uber car pulls up to the two story house that you were looking for. There’s physical changes to the house last time you came here. The grass was looking more green and the roses were more full. By looking at the driveway, the two people you wanted to see are still home.
You rang the doorbell once and you can tell that someone is on their way to answer the door. You mentally ready yourself before they open the door.
A woman gasped as they answered the door and saw you standing firmly in the middle.
“(Y/N)?” Eve can’t believe her eyes.
“Eve, who’s at the door?” Lex calls out in the background.
Eve was speechless that she couldn’t answer her husband. Lex was a tad worried that Eve wasn’t answering him right away. The man makes her way to the door and gives the same shocking reaction as his wife.
“(Y/N)! You bastard! You’re alive!” He shouts with joy.
You smiled at both of them. You step in to give Eve a hug and then give Lex the same affection. Immediately, Lex can tell that there’s something wrong. He just knows. The man has always been like a brother to you and he feels the same way too.
The married couple lead you to the living room to have a more comfortable environment to catch up. They didn’t have to worry about being late to their work since they’re technically the bosses of their own department at L-Corp. Eve comes in with some tea and mini sandwiches for everyone. The three made small talk, giving them the truth about what really happened in the months you were missing.
Lex and Eve felt sorry for you how much pain and recovery you have to go through alone after that accident happened. You assure them that it wasn’t a big deal and that you’re very happy to live another day.
After the good catch up, Lex thought it was time to find out what was bothering you.
“(Y/N). . Why exactly are you here? Aren’t you supposed to see your sisters first? Or perhaps Lena?”
You looked to the side, took a deep breath and sighed loudly. Your mind goes back to Lena.
“Did you know?” You vaguely ask your ex-girlfriend’s brother.
“Know what?” Lex replies, Eve looks equally confused. This confirms that no one knows, especially your mother and Alex.
“About Kara and Lena. . .” Lex thinks for a moment before he replies.
“All I know is that they’re close. When you were away, Kara had been keeping Lena company.”
You nodded. He’s telling the truth. Small anger was inside you but you’re mad at Lex. You start to get mad at yourself for not being around much.
“I caught them. . . I found your sister with my sister. It was clear that the love bites and the flushed redden cheeks on Lena were from Kara. . .”
Lex suddenly feels stupid for not seeing this. He thinks about how he didn’t see the little hints that his sister was having a lover, becoming a cheater. Eve looks at you with sad eyes, she gets up and wraps you in a hug.
“(Y/N) I don’t know what to say . . . I just - I really didn’t know. If only I have seen it sooner I would have prevented Lena from making those-”
“Lex no.” You interrupted him. “Your sister is her own person. She can decide what she wants to do. You couldn’t have prevented her feelings for someone else. I’m not mad at you Lex. You’re always like a brother to me. You have helped me so much and I will continue to do the same. Despite the situation. This is between Lena and I.”
Lex sucks in his lips and nods, “Did the two of you officially break up or talk about it?”
“No. I left right when I found out. My heart is really fragile at the moment but I promise you like I promised to Lillian years ago that I will not harm Lena in any way. I have never physically abused her and I will not let this dictate my actions.”
“You’re a good person, (Y/N). I’m sorry that it had to come out like this. I was desperately waiting for the two of you to get married someday. Getting the chance to call you my sister-in-law.”
You sadly laugh. You almost forgot about the ring that was attached to your military dog tags. You reveal your necklace to Lex and Eve. Eve was the first to react fast.
“(Y/N)! That ring looks so beautiful!” Eve focused on the diamond on the ring. It wasn’t too small nor too big. It was the perfect size.
“Damnit Lena.” Lex says under his breath while his wife talks to (Y/N) about the ring. “You better realize that you threw out the best Danvers sister. This one was going to marry you.”

Nickèd Names
Yuu finally learns who her funny Horned Boy is. This one takes place just after the ghost wedding. Content warning for coarse language and frank talk of bodily functions.
As always, check my Twisted Wonderland Fanfiction tag for more, and don’t be afeared to send me a message if you enjoyed something!
~*~*~*~
"You're finally back in class?"
You nodded at Deuce. "Stopped pissing blood every time I sneezed, so I'm back."
There's much to be said for kissing pretty ghost girls, but the main drawback is that when you do, you immediately, catastrophically hemorrhage from every pore as all your organs fail, and even with magical healing, you're still bedridden for a week. You wouldn't be doing that again. Maybe. Eliza was very cute.
"You're back. Excellent." Trein dropped a stack of papers in front of you. "Here's the work you missed."
You blinked up at him in horror. "Professor, I nearly died."
He stared back, face impassive. "You nearly did. And I'm fond of your work ethic. That's why you get this instead of a fail."
"... I'll take that."
~*~*~*~
It's after dark, so he should be along any time now. You set your phone down and wait.
True to form, your funny horned boy is soon sitting on the railing of your balcony, smiling at you. "You're all better now?"
"Better-ish." You might never get to stop taking those pills and supplements. "Why didn't you come by the room?"
"You don't know that I didn't. You slept a fair deal."
"Rude. Let's walk."
~*~*~*~
You're too tired to try the woods, so you're both slowly picking your way around the dorm grounds, your pretty horned boy keeping an eye that you don't trip. You could count the times he's touched you on one hand; when you asked, he said he didn't want to be rude. Perhaps he wasn't as fond of you as he seemed.
A buzz from your phone, Ortho wanted a symptoms check-in. You tapped back that you're fine, and your boy peered over your shoulder, leaning this way and that. Curiosity took the better of you.
"... You do know what a phone is, right?"
He chuckled. "Of course I do, my child of man. Not all technology is unknown in my homeland."
"Do you have one? I can give you my number."
He shook his head. "After I broke my last one, we decided it really wasn't necessary."
"You can replace them, you know."
"It was my... fifth?" He started counting on his hands. "No, sixth. They're delicate. After going through that many in as many weeks, we simply canceled the contract."
Your eyebrows went up through no effort of your own. "Jesus, you have the dropsies that bad?"
"The what?"
"Dropsies.” You mimed opening your hand, dropping something. “You dropped them."
"The first one went that way. Most simply shattered when I pressed the screen too hard, and one Lilia threw against a wall."
You decided to ask Lilia how he know your boy later. "Why'd he do that?"
"I tried to download a game and got, in his words, 'so many viruses.' " He seemed rather proud of himself. "They clearly weren't bad ones, I did not cough once."
"No, honey, that's not how that-" Even in the gloom, you saw he'd turned an alarming shade of red, and you backtracked. "Uh, you want to see anything on mine? I have pictures."
"Only if you don't hand me it."
~*~*~*~
"So there is a camera on this?"
"Yeah, most phones have them. Watch." You opened the camera, and hit the button so that the front camera was on, reflecting your spotty face and a wide-eyed faerie boy behind you. "This one's for selfies."
He made a face of pure confusion, and you hit the button to capture it, and showed him.
"Could you... not do that again? It's not proper."
"You know it doesn't steal your soul, right?"
He opened his mouth to speak, but again, sheer confusion stopped him until he gathered himself. "You always surprise me. But no, it's that... portraits are a formal thing. You shouldn't share that."
You blinked up at him with your best, sweetest face. "Is this just because you don't want me to ask around for your proper name with it?"
he stopped, blinked, inclined his head. "That didn't occur to me until now, but yes."
"I'll keep it to myself, I promise," you lied, and he believed you, and therefore did not hex your phone when he returned you to your room.
~*~*~*~
It was only partially a lie; you didn't actually show it to anyone. You simply set the picture of you both as your lockscreen, so you could enjoy it anytime. And this was what got Ace staring at your phone like it started sprouting feathers and clucking.
"Why do you have a picture of yourself with Malleus Draconia?"
Ah, so that’s it, you thought to yourself. "Who? That's my Horny Boy."
"what"
"Yeah, he said I could call him whatever I wanted because names are special and he's kind of a dumbass and let me."
Ace put an arm around your shoulder. "Yuu, I need to tell you why that is the second stupidest thing you've done in your life."
~*~*~*~
"He's not scary. You're clearly mistaken."
Ace flailed, halfway between exasperation and disbelief. "He's the strongest magic user in the school! Fifth strongest in the world! He is the Prince of Thorns and a big scary dragon and could kill you in the blink of an eye."
You frowned at him. "He is a great big loser who likes gargoyles and has zero clue about anything, ever. Have you ever actually talked to him?"
Ace gave you his best are-you-fucking-stupid-or-something face. "Of course not. He's also a third year, on top of everything else. I don't want to get turned into a rose bush or something."
"He's actually very easy to talk to. Probably because everyone's too scared to talk to him."You paused. "I'm gonna go talk to him."
"Nope!" Ace pulled you back in to your seat. "What if you curses you because you know his real name?"
"I highly doubt that. Let me go, Ace."
He smirked at you. "If you wanna go so bad then pull away."
"You know I can't do that, Ace." You're still too weak from your sickroom stay. "If you want me to stay, fine."
So you sat on his lap with a heavy flop, and watched him wince in pain. Even with all the weight lost from your illness, you're still too heavy for him. But he, stubborn brat, still gripped your arm and glared at you.
A battle of wills, one overweight brat and one stubborn weakling, rapidly losing sensation in his legs. "You're not going. I can stay here all day. You'll get bored before I do."
He's not wrong, but you have a secret weapon. "Keep me here and I'll fart on you."
He narrowed his eyes at you. "You can not fart on command."
You leaned over. "You don't know that. For all you know I had cabbage rolls for lunch and it's been brewing all day. You really wanna try me, Trappola?"
He did not want to try you, and, let you go with a grunt of disgust. "If you die, it's not my fault!"
"I'm not gonna die!"
"You said that about the ghost princess!"
"Is everyone going to hold that against me now?"
"YES!"
~*~*~*~
You found your horned boy in a pissing match with Kingscholar, and you decided to be as petty and obnoxious as possible. Walking up behind him - Malleus, what a pretty, pretty name for a witch boy - You simply wrapped your arms around his middle and squeezed, while he froze in place posed like a cowboy about to draw.
Leona started snickering. "Really? You get that few hugs in your life?"
"Shush." You peered under Malleus's arm, while he looked down at you. "Malleus? Can we talk a moment?"
Interesting. He could turn even paler than what he was.
~*~*~*~
"So the entire reason you didn't share who you were is that you thought I wouldn't want to hang out any more."
He nodded. "Most people are afraid of who I am. And you have generally unkind things to say about monarchies, as it is. I did not think you would take the prince thing kindly."
"Well." You shrugged. "Now I know why you kept taking notes whenever I started on that."
"You have many interesting things to say about it!" He brightened considerably. "I couldn't have a shift to elections within my lifetime, obviously, but much of it would be great to try implementing."
"Wouldn't your big scary grandma have anything to say about that?"
His smile was thin, but genuine. "She has much to say on most topics. But, if she did not want me to be exposed to new ideas, she could have simply kept me at home and continued with my private tutors."
You couldn't argue with that. "One last thing, Malleus."
He tilted his head slightly, face faintly pink. How could anyone be scared of him? He's so adorable it's enough to make you sick.
"I don't think I'll call you Horned Boy anymore, now that I know your more proper name."
He looked... disappointed, and you continued. "Mal's a little better for a nickname, yeah? Less of a mouthful."
He made a small noise, considering, before brightening. "Anything that you call me is perfection, my friend."

Lena holds her breath, along with everyone else in the room, as they watch Emma open her mouth.
‘Please work, please work, please work, please work, please, please, please.’ Lena wishes over and over, trying not to squeeze Emma’s hand too tight with her nerves.
But nothing happens.
Only the sound of her breath emits from Emma’s throat.
At this realisation, Lena’s stomach drops. She immediately schools her expression and tries to keep the devastation off her face as pained hazel green eyes snap to hers.
“Okay.” Doctor Sloan’s voice is calm despite the growing tension in the room. He pours some water into a cup and holds it out for Emma to take. “Have some water and try again.”
Lena observes the slight shake in Emma’s hand as she reaches out and takes the cup, lifting it to her lips. Wincing as the cool liquid slides down her swollen throat.
Taking another deep breath Emma slowly opens her mouth again and tries to make any sound.
Nothing comes out.
Doctor Sloan begins talking, his voice is soft and reassuring but all Lena can hear is the blood pumping around her ears and she lowers her head.
‘This is your fault.’ Her mind whispers cruelly to her. ‘If you hadn’t left her that day, if you had been there this wouldn’t have happened, if you had been enough-’
A scrape of a chair makes Lena’s head snap back up. Seeing Eliza jump up quickly and hold a clearly distraught Emma in her arms.
“It’s okay. I’ve got you.” Eliza whispers into Emma’s ear as her daughter nuzzles her face into the crook of her Mom’s neck. Her mouth opens in silent sobs, her breath coming out in pained gasps.
Lena peers behind her, Alex, Kara, Lucy and Sam have disappeared from the room. Nia has her head in her hands and Lena can see tears falling to the floor, Brainy and Winn are already looking over their tablets, conversing on the next steps they could do to help. J’onn sadly meets her eyes and goes to sit in the chair Eliza just vacated.
“I don’t care!” Alex’s enraged voice yells from the open door leading into the corridor, making Lena let go of Emma’s hand and stride out of the room towards the other voices of her friends. Promptly closing the door as she steps through it, not wanting it to further stress Emma.
She pauses at the scene in front of her. Alex’s face red with fury, the doctor against the wall with Alex’s arm pressed against his neck. Sam and Kara have their hands on her shoulders to stop her, while Lucy just watches with her arms crossed tightly against her chest and Doctor Hamilton stares at the scene with her mouth open like a goldfish.
“Look, I know you’re upset, I get that.” Doctor Sloan says calmly, trying to soothe the furious redhead. “We knew this surgery might not succeed but others still might, possibly, work. This is a foundation for us to work on, to use different therapies, injections in her neck. There are other options we can use.”
“Alex.” Kara pleads softly, tears brimming her eyes.
“It didn’t work.” Alex gasps out as she shakes with adrenaline.
“Not this time.” The Doctor says with genuine sorrow in his eyes. “But I promise you, I am going to do everything in my power so that one day your sister can talk.”
“And sing.” Lucy narrows her eyes at him.
Doctor Sloan pauses and takes a deep intake of breath. “Hopefully.”
“Hopefully?!” Alex barks, her rage reigniting.
“Babe, that’s enough.” Sam pulls her girlfriend off the Doctor and holds her in an embrace.
“It didn’t work. It didn’t work.” Alex’s muffled voice can be heard weeping out.
Tears prick Lena’s eyes and she clenches her jaw. Slowly she builds up an expressionless mask to hide the devastation she is feeling. A wall to keep her pain in.
She watches as Doctor Sloan turns to leave with Doctor Hamilton and Lena strides after them. Stepping into the CEO, scientist role and out of her girlfriend status.
“Doctor Sloan.” She calls after him, passing her desolate friends on the way.
“Ms Luthor.” He nods at her apprehensively.
“I would like to discuss with you the equipment you used.” Lena motions for him to lead the way to Doctor Hamilton's office to continue their discussion.
Lucy watches her leave with the Doctors and debates about whether she should follow or not.
Deciding against it she turns back to Sam, Alex and Kara. The blonde superhero was now hugging Alex as the two sisters tried to console each other.
Sam and Lucy’s eyes meet and Lucy nods before turning back to go into the room. They will get through this. They have too.

Two Days After The Surgery
Emma is lying on her side in her bed. The room is in partial darkness with the windows being slightly tinted. Not allowing the sunlight to enter all day and distorting the colour of the sunset that she is ignoring.
Her throat feels tight and itchy from the surgery and all Emma really wants to do is sleep to escape the memories of the past few days. To escape to dreams filled with beaches, quiet places and safety.
Not the memories of seeing the devastation written on everyone’s faces. The absolute agony that exploded within her at the realisation that the surgery hadn’t worked.
The way her Mom was the only one who comforted her right away. That Lena had let go of her hand and disappeared, along with her sisters. When all Emma needed and wanted in that moment was to be in her arms. To have Lena’s soothing voice reassure her things will be okay. For her sisters to be sitting on the bed with her and comforting her.
She hears a light knock on the bedroom door but doesn’t move, just keeps staring ahead.
“Love?” Lena’s voice softly calls into the dark room after she pushes open the door. Emma hears the soft patter of Lena’s footsteps on the carpet until Emma feels the bed dips behind her. “Hey.” Lena coos out and wraps an arm around Emma’s waist. “Are you okay?”
‘No.’ Emma thinks but instead she reaches for her girlfriend’s hand and squeezes it three times.
“I love you too, but you didn’t answer my question.”
Emma doesn’t respond, just stares straight ahead at nothing. Her eyes fill, for what feels the millionth time, with tears.
“Em.” Lena’s voice cracks and Emma feels Lena roll her onto her other side. Darkness surrounds Emma as Lena holds her close but Emma doesn’t move.
“Lee?” Kara’s voice quietly calls from the bedroom door and Emma hears two sets of footprints pad over to the bed. “Hi little one.” Kara says softly but Emma keeps her head nuzzled in Lena’s chest.
“Has she been in bed all day?” Alex’s voice queries Lena.
“I- yes, I think so. I did try to get her up earlier but she just lays here.”
Emma hears Alex sigh heavily and feels Alex get on the bed behind her. “Hey peanut.” A hand touches Emma’s shoulder and she unintentionally flinches under her sister’s hand. “Sorry.” Alex’s hand falters for a moment but gently lowers until it's fully resting on her shoulder again. Emma slowly breathes out and forces the tears to not fall.
“Everyone’s here for a Superfriends night. We will do whatever you want.” Kara's voice sounds airy and light but frustration bubbles within Emma. All she wants to do is lay in bed and sleep and not have to perform. To pretend she is okay.
Emma lets out a heavy breath through her nose, to try and release the bubbling frustration she is feeling.
“You don’t have to love. You can stay in here and rest. No one is expecting anything from you.” Lena says softly in Emma’s ear and kisses the top of her head.
Emma nods but stretches against Lena. Signalling she is about to get up.
Seeing this Alex moves off the bed and Emma rolls over and tries to sit up. The room spins, making her flop back into Lena.
The raven haired beauty chuckles, thinking it's due to Emma’s stiff body that she’s fallen back.
“I’ll help you up.” Alex reaches down and takes a hold of Emma’s hands. “On the count of three. One, two, threeee!”
Emma lets Alex help sit her up, also feeling Lena placing her hands on her back in case she falls again. When Alex moves away Emma carefully moves her legs off the bed, squinting her eyes as Lena turns the lights on.
“You are cleared to eat soft foods, so Nia and Brainy made us macaroni and cheese.” Kara says while heading into the walk-in wardrobe to grab Emma some fresh clothes. “I mean, it was Brainy’s idea which was really sweet.” Kara places the clothes by Emma and gives her a small smile.
Emma curves her lips up in response and nods. Wincing at the movement and runs a tired hand through her hair.
“We’ll see you out there.” Alex grabs a hold of Kara’s hand and they leave the room.
“Do you need help changing?” Lena asks beside her, having shuffled across the bed to sit next to her girlfriend.
Emma shakes her head and removes her t-shirt, exposing her naked chest. Making Lena groan.
“I can’t believe we have to wait over a month for me to ravish you.” Lena moans softly and kisses Emma’s cheek. “Good job we fucked in the bath huh?” Lena kisses Emma’s lips and the blonde kisses back. Smirking as Lena runs a hand gently over her chest.
The couple had been prepared that they couldn’t have sex for a while after the surgery. But when Doctor Sloan admitted the time frame to being a month and a half, Lena wanted to punch the Doctor.
Emma turns and raises an eyebrow at her. “I can still please you.”
“I know love. But I want to please you as well.” Lena slowly leans in and tenderly kisses Emma’s lips. “Plus, we do have to be careful.”
Emma lets out a heavy breath as she sighs and nods. Grabbing her clothes she quickly changes into loose jeans and a navy t-shirt with a sloth surfing a wave, while Lena waits on the bed.
“How do you make a simple outfit look so sexy?” Lena smirks at Emma, her eyes bright and glistening.
Emma gives her a small smile in response, which causes Lena’s to drop slightly.
“Hey, come here.” Lena opens her arms and Emma momentarily hesitates before falling into them. “I know this is less than ideal but we will get through this.”
Emma snuggles her head into Lena’s neck and breathes deeply. Allowing the feelings of safety and love to replace the anxiety she was feeling.
“Hey love birds!” Lucy shouts from the living area. “If you don’t come now all the food is gonna be consumed by two and a half cranky Kryptonians!”
“Hey!” Ruby squawks from the other room as Kara and Sam join in.
“Excuse me?!”
“I’m not cranky!!”
“Point proven babe.” Alex laughs and the sound of a light slap follows. “Ow! Hey Emma, help me!”
Pulling away from Lena, Emma quickly gets up and rushes into the living area. Alex is rubbing her arm and rolling her bottom lip forward as Sam shakes her head and chuckles.
“Emma!” Ruby yells and rushes over to the blonde.
“Ruby! Care-”
The teenager collides heavily with Emma, making her dispel a lot of air as she wraps her arms around her.
“-ful.” Sam finishes and rolls her eyes at her daughter. “Seriously that kid.”
Emma hugs Ruby back and smiles at them. When the teen breaks away Emma quickly moves to Alex’s side and wraps her arms protectively around her sister.
“She slapped me.” Alex whines and snuggles closer into Emma.
“Aww baby! I barely touched you.” Sam rubs Alex’s shoulder and sweetly kisses her cheek. Emma kisses Alex’s other cheek and shoots Sam a dirty look, making the brunette laugh. “I promise I won’t hurt her Em.”
Emma quickly nods and Alex nuzzles her nose into the side of Emma’s face.
“So food now?” Kara smiles brightly and lifts the lid on the simmering pan. “Rao, this smells so good!”
“Ooo yummy!” Ruby agrees as she takes in a big sniff of the delicious food.
“Thank you Kara, Ruby.” Brainy nods his head and picks up the spoon to dish the macaroni out.
“Yay!” Kara super speeds into a seat at the extended dining table with Ruby following right behind her. J’onn and Kara have flown in another fold up table and chairs so everyone could sit around a table together and eat.
Emma lets out a heavy snort through her nose as she watches her sister and the teenager.
“May they never change.” Alex laughs and moves to get everyone's drinks.
“Emma! Come sit next to me!” Ruby pats the vacant chair next to her. Emma grins slightly and goes to run over to them. Suddenly the room shifts and morphs around her.
‘Fuck no!’ Emma’s eyes go wide and she tries to avoid crashing into the table. Instead she trips on a chair leg, sending it flying and causing herself to slide across the floor, hitting her head on the back of the sofa.
“EMMA?!” A chorus of voices cry out her name and many rush over to her.
‘Ow.’ Emma moans, quickly sitting up with a cheerful smile on her face to show she was okay. But a blush colours her cheeks, showing her embarrassment.
“Stay down!” Alex orders furiously, her worry giving away to anger and Emma freezes as her sister kneels in front of her. “I need to check your wound.” She snaps and reaches out to pull the plaster away.
“Alex, wait!” Lena shouts urgently while kneeling next to her. She gently takes Emma’s hand and helps her sit fully up against the back of the sofa. “Deep breaths for me okay?”
Catching on to what Lena is trying to do, Alex’s face softens. “I’ll be gentle.”
Emma nods and focuses her eyes on Lena’s as Alex slowly pulls the band-aid off.
“Wow, this is actually healing really well.” Alex mutters and gently presses certain parts of Emma’s neck for any tears in the stiches, causing Emma to tighten her grip on Lena’s hand. Trying to keep herself grounded in the present.
“So, I was thinking-” Lena begins talking, seeing how Emma’s eyes were starting to glaze over and wanting to stop Emma’s nosedive into an episode. “Maybe we should take that trip soon?” Relief fills her as Emma’s eyes are able to focus on her and her eyes start to brighten with interest. “Go somewhere like the Maldives to unwind, swim in the sea, snorkel and you know-” Lena coughs lightly and lowers her voice towards Emma’s ear. “Other things.”
A quick puff of air escapes Emma’s lips as she voicelessly snorts.
“What like food?” Kara pipes up as she watches them from the table, having frozen in shock at Emma’s fall.
“Yes Kara, especially the food.” Alex says sarcastically and rolls her eyes at Emma, causing the blonde to grin. “Can someone get me a wi-”
“Here you go babe.” Sam appears in a blur and hands Alex a cleansing wipe and a new neck plaster.
“Thanks.”
“Is she going to be okay?” Ruby asks nervously to her Mom.
“Yes Rubes she is.” Sam hugs her daughter reassuringly and ushers her back to her seat.
Alex does the task quickly and soon everyone is sitting around the table eating the meal Brainy and Nia had made while listening to Winn’s story about successfully stopping a bank robbery with James.
“And then the idiots decide to run while-”
“I swooped in and pummeled the sons of bitches and-”
“James! Children present!” Sam barks.
“Moooom!” Ruby whines but motions for James to continue.
Emma’s eyes quickly move to Winn and watch him deflate back into his chair as James takes over the story. As if sensing her gaze Winn looks up at her and Emma lifts her mouth into a smile. The corner of his mouth lifts up and he nods before shoving more food in his mouth.
“Sweetheart?” Eliza quietly catches her attention from across the table. “You need to eat some more.”
Emma glances down at her bowl of food and realises she’s barely touched it. Lowering her fork Emma scoops up a few pieces of macaroni and slowly chews it. The pain almost makes her wince but Emma doesn’t want to seem ungrateful for the kind gesture Nia and Brainy did for her.
Her Mom nods and smiles at her before turning back to J’onn to continue their conversation.
Emma continues picking at her food and listens to the different exchanges happening around the table. Her stomach pinches as she wants to join in the conversations but knows the rhythm of communications will severely slow down while she signs and someone speaks her words out for her.
Instead Emma keeps her head down and continues eating, imagining different melodies and lyrics for songs. Her fingers softly moving against the surface of the table as if she is playing ivory keys.
If anyone notices Emma’s subdued mood, they leave her be. Putting it down to fatigue from the surgery and emotional exhaustion from the aftermath.
Lena does slip her left hand under the table and rests it on Emma’s right thigh, making the blonde jump but Lena soothingly rubs her thumb back and forth, settling Emma  quickly.
“-you think Emma?” Winn’s voice asks, bringing her out of her little music bubble.
“Winn was asking whether we should all go to the carnival next week?” Lena says helpfully having seen Emma snap out of her daze.
But before Emma can even process James pipes up.
“It may have to be the week after, there’s the convention at the arena.”
“Also gives us time to hire it out for a few hours.” Alex nods in thought. “Be nice not to have to wear face modifiers.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Lena nods and smiles.
“That sounds like fun!” Nia claps her hands and beams at the group.
“And talking of next week, as everyone is here, Alex’s moving date is a week tomorrow. If anyone wants to help?” Sam says with a bright smile, causing Emma to smile back and nod.
“Really? That soon?” James enquires, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“Yes, I’m practically spending all my time at Sam and Ruby’s apartment, so it makes sense.” Alex glares right back at her friend.
“And you don’t think you are moving too quickly since-” James jumps as a foot kicks his shin, he turns his head and glares at Winn.
“No, I don’t. Since it was your sister who left me.” Alex responds coolly.
James lifts his glass in surrender. “True. And someone has to keep the typical u-haul lesbians trend alive. Cheers.” He smirks and downs his drink, Alex lifts her beer and salutes him before taking a sip.
The night continues without any more hitches as the superfriends clear the table and a group game of monopoly starts. Emma typically pairs with Lena as her partner and mainly rests her head on Lena’s shoulder as the game progresses.
“What do you think love?” Lena asks, trying to keep Emma involved in the game. “Shall we swap our browns for the green James and Winn are offering?”
Emma nods, seeing it would be a good swap as they already had the two other properties and would create a set.
It was indeed a good move as more and more players land on their properties and Lena gleefully takes their money.
“Thank you kindly!” She smiles brightly as Sam thrusts all of Alex’s and her money, bankrupting them and winning Lena and Emma the game.
“Well done Aunty Lee.” Ruby yawns and copies Emma by resting her head on her Mom’s shoulder.
Lena smiles at the teen and the game is packed away. The group starts saying their goodbyes, all giving Emma reassuring hugs and consoling words.
Soon only Alex, Kara, Lena and Emma are in the apartment. The sisters hover by the balcony door while Lena finishes packing up the dishwasher, having already said her farewells. Kara seemingly held onto her longer than usual as they hugged.
“So, shall we have a sister night here on Friday?” Kara nervously asks as she fiddles with her glasses.
Emma slowly blinks while leaning against the window, feeling her eyes growing heavy, but she nods and smiles sleepily at the thought of a sister's night.
“Yea, sounds good.” Alex agrees and goes to give Emma a hug. “Goodnight peanut.” Emma wraps her arms around her sister and squeezes.
“Goodnight little one.” Kara comes behind Emma and Emma moves her arm back to try and hug her other sister as well.
Emma takes a deep breath, soaking in her warm feelings of love she is getting but immediately a silent yawn escapes her mouth.
“Sounds like someone needs to go to bed!” Alex laughs, Emma leans her head back against Kara’s shoulder and nods. Allowing her eyes to close while her sister’s hold her up.
“Okie dokie.” She hears Kara say and her  smile widens at the phrase until suddenly she is lifted into Kara’s arms.
If she could have used her voice, Emma would have squealed in surprise. Instead a heavy, quick dispel of breath leaves her mouth.
“Sorry little one!” Kara exclaims after hearing Emma’s heartbeat increase in speed and she carries her baby sister into her bedroom. She smiles sadly as Emma wraps her arms around her shoulders and holds on. Alex glances over at Lena who is watching with sadness in her eyes.
“How are you doing Lena?” Alex asks, making Lena’s somber eyes snap to warm brown ones.
“Me?” The raven haired beauty asks, taken aback by Alex’s question.
“Anyone else in this room?” Alex quips and leans on the island.
“Well, I’m fine.”
“Fucked up. Insecure. Neurotic. Emotional.” Alex lists off the familiar phrase and raises her eyebrows at Lena.
Making Lena chuckle. “Sounds about right.”
“But seriously, you know where I am if you ever need me. Kay?”
Lena’s face softens and she swallows deeply. “Thank you. And the same goes for you.”
Alex nods and Kara reappears in the living area.
“Shall we go?” Kara asks and heads towards the balcony, Alex turns to follow her.
“Oh and Alex?” Lena moves around the island to stand in front of the redhead. Making Kara whirl around by the intentive tone of her best friend’s voice.
‘This should be good.’ Kara smirks and watches.
“Yes Lena?” Alex asks and watches as Lena transforms into the powerful CEO and sizes the redhead up.
“As Sam is my oldest and dearest friend, I feel it is my duty to warn you that if you ever hurt her in any way, I will hunt you down and use other methods more painful then you can possibly imagine to hurt you back. Your little finger trick? Has nothing on what I can do.”
Seeing how serious Lena was Alex nods, schooling her expression to not smile. Knowing that Lena does infact mean it and the different ways of torture Lena can conjure up. “I will keep that in mind.”
“Good.” Lena nods then opens her arms to hug the redhead, which Alex gladly accepts. Suddenly a force plows into them, making the pair sway as Kara wraps her arms around them.
“Kara!” Alex laughs and Lena kisses her best friend’s head affectionately.
Soon the sisters finally leave as Kara flies Alex to Sam’s apartment. Lena watches them disappear into the night before closing and locking the balcony door.
“Hope, please turn off all the lights and engage security protocol.” Lena quietly calls out as she makes her way to the dimly lit bedroom.
Her stomach pinches as her eyes focus on a fast asleep Emma propped against the headboard as if waiting for her.
Lena silently steps into the room and closes the door, hearing the whirl of the security locks sliding into place.
Immediately she turns back to her girlfriend and walks softly over to her. Grimacing at the angle of Emma’s neck, imaging the painful tug the blonde will be feeling if she stays in that position for much longer.
Carefully Lena maneuvers Emma’s body to a lying position, the blonde doesn't stir once but immediately curls towards Lena’s side of the bed. Lena smiles sadly and quickly gets ready to join her girlfriend.
Finally she slides under the covers and lays on her side to face the still sleeping Emma.
“Goodnight my love.” Lena whispers, gently kissing Emma’s lips and wraps her arm around her waist.

♦ Anon asked ~ Okay how would guys and their darling react to being slapped by Eliza? Feel free to write for any of those who got slapped ^^ Gender is neutral
Aaa this one was really sweet so I did it for all guys (who got slapped-)
I reached my 10 pic limit and had to sacrifice twins ixkskxksos
[note : re-posted his because my tags weren't working]
♦♥♠♣
Tumblr media
Poor boy remained silent for a few minutes after that mess with ghost princess , still unable to talk
His cheeks are flushed that proved him being embarrassed , making him look greatly...cute
Just as much as you loved seeing softer sides of him you can't see him this sad , so now it is your responsibility to lift him up
He is upset with both failing to help and being an idiot in front of Eliza
The whole thing proved how soft he can actually be , which fascinated you . You hadn't ever thought of him being like this ; shy and... helplessly childish with girls
Deuce is a bit worried with the way you see him now , he doesn't want his picture ruined . But as a matter of fact you like him even more now , he could be serious and strict at times but still , he's a soft boy inside
You ask if he feels any shy around you and it makes him turn his head away to add a nervous : " M...me? Absolutely not- why would I .??"
You now know that he actually does but it isn't something he needs to hide , that actually makes him look awfully cute
He still seems sad though so you give him a small kiss on forehead , making him blush even harder
Well even if he's shy with you you aren't ; after all he is your boy
Tumblr media
Trey himself couldn't help laughing at what had happened. He tried his best to be a gentleman , and he really was . But seems like Eliza had more different standards than he was expecting
Trey's mind just wasn't ready to go from his normal self to a high-level prince , but he doesn't find singing a part of a prince's duties either
"My my , it really messed up," he says as he joins you and the others in the losers' bench
You knew that the proposal was all fake , but Trey just wasn't one who could act it all ; he didn't have Vil's pure talent of an actor or Leona's charm of a prince , yet he did his very best
You tell that you really liked the way he presented himself , pretty much of a mature young man he really is and he gets blessed . He isn't much of a romantic guy and he appreciates that you like him as he is
You give him a "Ghost bride surely lost a great option , " to lift him up and it did , making him wink adding : " Well, perhaps she knew that I have a better one myself ,"
Tumblr media
Finally after posting 34 pics of his slapped face along with other supplies such as his fake tears , dead flowers and some broken-hearted captions with tons of #Ghostbride #Puishmentoflove #illfate #brokenheart and and and you managed to have him looking off his phone for a second
You tell how he's making an issue out of nothing but he'll just laugh : " Who cares that it's all fake ? Teens are gonna love it ! ,"
He must be thankful that Eliza didn't see this part pf him or he should've spammed pics of his broken legs and hands instead
He takes the best advantage of being slapped and you wonder how he's just being all excited about it , what if the same thing happens while he's seriously proposing to someone ?
You ask if it bothers him , the feeling of being rejected and he goes silent for a moment not looking at his phone but the ground now , perhaps thinking of an logical answer
You drop your head regretting what you asked and then , he cuts you off with a small kiss on your cheek : " That's simple , my dear (y/n). Not a single soul likes being rejected no matter what the reason is , so that's why I always make sure that I won't get rejected before asking ; today was just an exception ,"
You get a bit confused at the answer , wanting him to give you an example
He slightly smirks before adding :" Well , ‌you didn't reject me , did you ?"
Tumblr media
For the heaven's sake ; you couldn't be any more thankful that he got rejected . From the very moment they announced that princess was looking for a prince you feared of her picking Leona , a real prince
Leona is already prince charming of his home town ; Not a single soul could say no to him
The second he got slapped , his eyes - You were trying to feel sorry about it but the way he glared at Eliza as if he was a chubby cat pushed into water ; it was beyond hilarious
Leona has his own ways when it comes to attracting ladies , making him almost irresistible to many including you , but not the ghost bride
He seems really pissed off at the whole thing ; not that he liked the ghost bride that much , he just hates being rejected
With him being a growling cat for the rest of day , you decide to spoil him a little ; letting him take naps on your lap and rubbing back of his ears make him a whole lot better , but he won't say a word of satisfaction
You are used to his cringy behaviors and can't help loving them , you are really thankful that your cat would still be all yours - even if it was supposed to be a fake marriage
Tumblr media
He just - Froze
Sword skills ? Were they a thing he lacked ? Was it just one of those royal fancy rules or could it be a serious problem ? He now was concerned
You found him getting slapped pretty unfair since not many these days are familiar with sword skills ; but there were no argues on that point since Eliza once lived as a girl from more than 500 years ago , so she surely ends up having more complicated standards comparing to you
You tell Jack about it and that it's fine , but he refuses to believe
He had heard of Sebek together with Silver being well-trained sword men which meant that this tradition still remained necessary , so he now is seriously thinking about picking it up
You couldn't blame him though , once he feels like he needs to be stronger that's it ; but you don't want him overwork himself
You insist that sword skills are pretty silly to him while he's got his powerful fists and the secret unleash the beast , but he still seems to have a doubt about it
Since he looks pretty certain with his choice , you don't try to stop him but you make promise that he wouldn't overwork himself , which he does
He intends to get stronger to protect his beloved ones , including you so there was nothing that could hold him back if it was because of you
Tumblr media
♦♥♠♣ Jade Leech
Jade still doesn't get why Eliza didn't like the flowers , yes he didn't like them either but aren't flowers ladies' most appreciated gift ? How confusing , he thought
You slap the ice-pack against his face , just who on earth would give away unwanted flowers from his terrarium as a bouquet ?
Jade doesn't get why he shouldn't have , he was benefitting both himself and Eliza , right ? Or could that be that surface girls followed different romance traditions from underwater ? He needed more information then
He asks for ways to make a girl fall in love , which made you laugh , you told that if he's going to retry the thing with Eliza , he would end up needing way more than one ice-pack
He agrees with you on that point , so he wonders if he can practice tactics with you since you are a pretty gentle and calm partner , and it makes you blush
You tell him to focus on not being slapped again as long as this ghost marriage lasts and in return , you then can teach him some tricks with ladies
♦♥♠♣ Floyd Leech
He didn't really like Eliza from the very beginning so there was no way the two of them would end up together even if he wasn't slapped
Floyd isn't into this type of girls which are too strict and loud ; he prefers softer and cuter types , something he can dominant
You expect him to get moody and pissed off , but he just doesn't seem to care
thanks to him Jade as well got slapped -very hard- and that successfully lifted his mood up
You ask him if he wants to take a walk and he agrees in deal of you paying for his candy , and you gladly agree
The two of you have candies together and make fun of others getting slapped back there
Both of you agree on Jade's expression being way more hilarious than Azul's
When you finally get back to others trying to find a way , he whispers into your ears : " If I ever were to propose to someone , I'd prefer it to be to someone like you"~
Tumblr media
Man , he's really pissed off. Talking too much will usually be beneficial while dealing on a contract , mostly because of the way it confuses dealers and gives them an unconscious vibe causing them to believe you ; strange yet helpful
Azul hadn't thought of proposing being this different from making contracts , and it was odd to him
He now is supposed to be looking for a way to save his boardgames club friend , but another thought keeps haunting him :
What are the correct ways of... making someone fall for you ? To attract a lady ? Isn't having a good face and using sweet words like enough ? He needed more lessons if he wanted to be an ideal dealer
You sigh as his serious replies , disappointed to see how he really had no idea about emotional terms
You tell him how life isn't always about business and benefitting , but sometimes about feelings and well , loving
He mumbles saying how useless emotions are , a waste of time and brain cells to him
You suggest teaching him more about emotional situations which may be helpful , and charming to others , which sounds like a great deal to him , but he doesn't accept you giving it to him for free, saying that you as well must set a price
You aren't really sure what to ask , so you just want him to invite you to a fancy dinner after having this case with the ghost bride solved
Tumblr media
Just as you hear the sound of him getting slapped , you know that it was bad news
Vil is trying his best to be calm but...it doesn't really seem to be working . His fist's shaking in anger as if he's gonna slam it against the wall or maybe someone . He got rejected and he couldn't take it ; he
wasn't one to accept such a thing
Although he isn't a real prince , he had anything needed to be a real one : Elegance , Charm , Nobility and maturity ; he was perfect
He is really furious now , specially thinking at how Lilia intended to avoid Malleus from showing up in fear of his high chance of being accepted . He wasn't one to say that he would surpass Malleus , but he wasn't any lower than him either: if a dog was the only reason he got rejected then Malleus as well would've been...but wait- doesn't it mean that Idia too shouldn't have been chosen since he loves cats ?
In that case..it must've had another reason : He wasn't good enough
You knew that Vil would never be satisfied no matter how many times you told him that he was already gorgeous , he wanted to be better
It was useless trying to take his mind away from being rejected through the same ways so you had to sacrifice yourself :
You go to Vil asking is he can join you for a second -until others get slapped try to propose because you are having some... beauty issues
You try to get him talking to you as much as possible ,from importance of having an organized sleep schedule to forbidding laughing too much since it will bring you wrinkles
You know that if there's one thing that Vil would always be proud of , that would be speaking of his high-key beauty skills which he couldn't ever get enough of
He could go on all day if Leona didn't cut him off : " Oi , aren't the two of you done yet ?"
Even with Leona pissing him off , he now seems to be a lot better and that was a success for you . Even if he doesn't notice how you were trying to secretly lift his mood up
Tumblr media
Lilia is...crying ?
Your heart melts at the sight of his soft tears falling down his pale face , making you as well cry
You don't know why you are being overly emotional but who on earth would slap others because just because of being too cute ?!
You can't help but to be mad at Eliza , wanting to punch her in the face just as she did to Lilia , but Lilia stops you , wondering why you might want to do such a thing
You angrily express how unfair you think what she did was , telling that she shouldn't be treaten las if she has the right to do whatever she'd like
"Just HOW is cuteness considered to be a bad thing ?!" you argue , loud enough to gain attention to yourself . Lilia takes you out before Eliza could've heard
He then sits beside you , trying to see what could've been wrong with you ; were you sick or just in a bad mood maybe ? He couldn't tell
" I'm sorry I just , got really mad with what she did and after you cried..." you mumble slowly , making Lilia giggle
" My my darling , I wasn't the only one who got slapped and also , I just cried at how my whole presentation keeps getting ruined by my... appreance . You know , it's a bit frustrating to be called cute after living hundreds of years as a terrifying dark fae ," he says , shaking his head in a playful manner
You are relieved knowing that he wasn't crying of pain or being heartbroken , and now he as well seems to be better
He asks of you're ready to return inside and you quickly agree , admitting that you might have been a bit too emotional
Just before you two get to others , he brings himself closer to ask you something : " You as well agree that I'm cute , don't you ?"
Tumblr media
"How dare she- I see now why master Lilia didn't let master Draconia approach - this disgraceful spirits don't deserve having the slightest sight of him..."and and and were the words you keeped up with untill you grew tired which was 20 minutes later . You really wish him to have a turn off button sometimes
Sebek feels really offended specially because he was just about to get to the best part of his speech about Malleus but got slapped in face
The sight of his mouth getting shut as Eliza slapped him was priceless , perhaps she and Malleus were the only ones who had ever got to shut his mouth
When he finally cools down , his puppy side is brought up : " (y/n) , maybe I didn't present myself good enough in front of her and caused her to take young master lightly . Is it my fault ? "
You keep telling him that Eliza just didn't like how he brought Malleus out of nowhere and started to ramble nonsense about him when he was supposed to be proposing
Sebek doesn't take your comment as a polite one at first , bit he had to agree , maybe it would have worked out for her if this ghost knew who the great Malleus Draconia is and that was why it all went wrong
You sigh at how he doesn't get your point at all but you don't say a word , he deeply appreciated Malleus after all ; Thought Malleus had to be removed surgically from him
Since he doesn't seem to be giving up , you say that you'd really like to hear that best part about Malleus , making him flatter and start talking like a parrot again
You don't really care what he says or how great Malleus can actually be , but if that's what makes him happy you are fine with it
