Bōsōzoku culture derives/d from lower class Japanese youth who’ve banded together to express dissatisfaction with Japanese Society.

America is very familiar with countercultural movements lmao. Punk/Grunge/Metal/etc…

Youth are aimless, reckless, and rebellious.

If you’ve ever enjoyed the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton , you know this is a prime example of brotherhood bonds between lower class hoodlums. In Oklahoma, of all places.

Today I plan to point out a few:

Yankii Mothers / YanMaMa; Ryoko Baji

early ’90s, yankii men occasionally entered construction and teen women had children and dropped out of high school — both stereotypes that persist today. *The young yankii mothers — yan mama — were often ostracized by other mother groups and struggled to assimilate to their new identities as parents.

Within a year of publication, Yan Mama Comic had reached of circulation of 120,000, helping to bond socially isolated communities of young mothers.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT FOLKS; Ryoko and Baji’sDad were definitely two yankii teens who fell in love and had a kid too young.

Headcanon! That Keisuke’s parents were set on making a badass life together, and be awesome young parents with the coolest and toughest new punk kid to add to the books!

…But, they were still two idiots. Baji’s father probably ran head first, sacrificing himself in one way or another, I’m sure.

Mikey: all younger siblings admire their older brothers! Shinichiro was the leader of a biker gang, of course Mikey would want to follow in his footsteps! So Mikey’s reason soon turns to::

Shinichiro: By being a overall stand up guy, true to his word and genuine to a fault, he had a strength not a lot of people had. He welcomed friendships with BlackSheep, and made a home for them however he could. Strong ally’s stood by him and as long as he’s around, they would support his ideals in shaping a better future.

Draken: was literally born into it. Escorts have been judged and poorly treated left and right, taking care of yourself—with a child to boot; was hell for a women. Unwanted kids of “filth” aren’t usually welcomed in social circles. The Children bare the injustice of inconvenience. By living with escorts and witnessing first hand the “low-class work” so many have had to endure to make a decent way of life, Draken learned young that life was unfair. So to live, you have to make a way of life for yourself, unapologeticly.

Mitsuya: Poor kids are looked down on a lot. Made fun of for things they can’t control. Kids with jobs are looked down on for being in the working class so soon. With a mother who was never home, and taking care of two younger sisters, he needed strength to deal with how unfair his life was. Meeting Draken, and realizing that the struggle to survive and keep trying to have a family even when it’s hard, he started respecting his mother a lot more. He found a sense of belonging Toman…

Baji: also literally born into it. Grew up with a single mother who was looked down on for being young/dropping out of school. Supporting her as the only Man of the house, Keisuke takes after his mother’s confidence. He also is seen having an alternative sense of fashion, making me believe he is definitely a metal head.

Kazutora: dealt with a lot growing up. He was bullied for being a sheepish pushover. He was hit by his father for any level of individuality /expression of defiance. He was manipulated into always having to pick one right side, and that there was always one wrong side. He tries showing loyalty by giving everything he has to friendships that hurt him, without realizing friends shouldn’t hurt him. No matter who he was, there was never anyone he could just be a person with. Be a part of the perfect high status family you were born into, or face the punishments. He finds comfort when he finds a family he can trust and be a person who makes mistakes. Friends are meant to be treasured. And after meeting Baji, and joining Toman, he found somewhere he could belong.

Pah: I still need to look more into him I can’t lie.

Takemichi: Bozosoku culture is notorious for being social justice fighters, as the entire notion of a subculture is to defy societal injustice anyway. And that’s just who Takemitchi is; a friend to everyone.

Hinata: the prime example of Dating into the lifestyle. It’s easy to admire and possibly fall in love with people as passionate as rebellious, adrenaline junky teens. She’s empathetic to how others see Takemichi, knowing above all else, he loves her more than anything!

Emma: she never really got into being a part of the gang, but she was by association. All of her brothers. She’s always been the crown jewel of TokyoManji! But not only that; Emma isn’t fully Japanese. True, a lot of the cast is multinationality. But she has Mikey on her side. She is his family, and that makes her strong. Foreigners are often ostracized, easy to pick out due to her natural Blonde hair. (*blonde hair is also often an act of rebellion, she showing that she refuses to dye it black to fit in can also say a little about other issues-)

LETS NOT FORGET!!! TOMAN IS BUILD ON THE BACK OF “The Little guy who sticks up for the Weak”.

The series is based on what kind of world Manjiro Sano chooses to build. Every timeline is unintentionally set by his hand, because he is that powerful of a person. Because people follow him. Manjiro is the type of person who changes fates.

By losing Shinichiro; Manjiro loses Empathy.

Shinichiro was a charismatic and empathetic person, often putting differences aside to better the other person. He was a heavily respected person in the delinquent world of Japan as the founder of Black Dragon. He led Black Dragon with a humble heart and was treated with notable respect, while also being a big brother to all three of his siblings. Even though he was a weak fighter, he lead the Black Dragon with his immense charisma. Even years after his death, later generations of members still hold him in high regard.

A person like Shinichiro is the kind of man people follow. The Weak Guy sticking up for his friends; The One who Always Won..

In a subculture seeking structure, he is the perfect person to leading a generation of a kinder and more empathetic people.

If Alcina being a lesbian is so important to you why does she have an ex husband in your fic

I’m going to assume this is a genuine question without malicious intent so I will provide a real answer.

This could actually apply to 2 of my fics, but I’m guessing you’re talking about Something Sweet since it’s the one that I update more frequently.

Gonna plop this under a read more since it’s gotten long

Alright, so, the reason for her having an ex husband has been stated throughout the fic. She felt she had to be closeted and to meet certain expectations set for her both by society and by her parents. Sure, people are more accepting now, not that there isn’t still bigotry or pressure to conform, but with the fic taking place in 2022(I started it in 2022 and only a few months have passed in fic time and while I never explicitly stated the year, that’s what everything is based off of, giving Alcina a 1978 birth year and the reader 2001) that means Alcina got married in 2008. Idk if you were around during that time, but homophobia was rampant, being gay was a punchline. It’s not something you would talk about, there’s no way to know if your friends would actually stay your friends and not spread vicious rumors about you. Marriage equality in most states, not a thing. Again, bigots still exist, but it’s generally not this life ruining thing for people to find out you’re queer. Alcina would have come of age in the 90’s which would make that even worse.

That aside, I tend to explore themes of coming out later and families not being being accepting because it’s all I know. I tend to process my trauma through my writing. That and I’m sure it’s no secret that I’ve taken heavy inspiration from Carol only with a sugar baby twist. I also wanted her to have younger, biological children since I felt that would be fitting of a 44 year old divorcee rather than having adopted adult children like she does in canon. Sure, they could have been adopted or older, but there needed to be a reason for her to stay with Kurt for the amount of time that she did. I needed her connected to Karl in someway too. Heisenberg was originally supposed to have a twin brother so I went off of that and now Alcina has her annoying ex brother-in-law(who actually isn’t so bad in this universe, but Alcina won’t hear of it)

As for The Fall of the House of Dimitrescu. I’m sure no one is asking, but in that case Alcina was weak from her hereditary blood disease and didn’t have the energy to be defiant the same way she was as a child. Her father had lost his wife and he had no desire to continue caring for Alcina so he set her up with somebody who she reluctantly went along with. In that case, Alcina wasn’t even aware of her attraction to women yet, she just didn’t understand why she didn’t feel a spark with her soon to be husband. She also assumed it was normal for sex to be an unpleasant “wifely duty.” Once she finally made the connection and had an affair with a woman, turns out she liked sex quite a bit lmao.

Idk, all this aside, I know I’m not the only one who has given Alcina a husband in some context yet still fully believes shes a lesbian. I also have plenty of fics where she’s never had one. The first multichapter fic I wrote she literally left her home and privileged life behind to struggle until she made it as musician rather than marry a man. I don’t think it’s a crime to explore other possibilities. I have so many different headcanons for Alcina and all are universe dependent whether that be modern AU, the canon compliant timeline where she never marries, the canon compliant timeline where she does, and all the other in between stuff that diverges from canon. She’s one of my favorite characters of all time and I love fleshing her out.

guys I just want you to know that azula is my fav atla character (right above katara/toph/suki can you tell I like girls) but I’m actually going insane about mako right now.

also for the like,, five people who liked my last mako post please please please go look at @/jade-of-mourning’s blog. they’re so cool. they make such super awesome mako posts and his writing is really good and she also posts some stuff on ao3 so like. yeah. I’m obsessed with them.

anyway back to losing my mind over mako,, (a LOT more under the cut)

so okay I’ll admit I’m not typically a fan of angsty male characters (zuko is the exception. he’s too funny to not, and his character and development are really well done) because they all feel like copy-pastes of each other and they’re generally uninteresting.

but mako. mako is the female experience. not sure if I reposted it (as I tend to do with,, everything on here) but I saw a post talking about how what happened to mako’s character (all potential being discarded after romantic plot) is what happens to the vast majority of female characters. and as I’ve probably said at least fifty million times, he’s SO eldest daughter coded. I’m trans (they/he) but I grew up an eldest daughter and he’s like?? literally me??

as I was yapping about in a reblog—I just checked (lol) and it was in fact the post about mako having the female love interest treatment and tags about his eldest daughter syndrome—mako is somewhat made more ‘relatable’ than katara even when sending a similar message for the general audience. I think people should just be less brickheaded and appreciate my wonderful waterbending girl but mako being a guy makes people not immediately put his character into the lens of ‘ugh, dumb feminism’. (which, again, should not happen)

okay so why does this redeem him so much? I said I hate copy-paste angsty backstories meant to exacerbate a character’s edgy mysteriousness and mako is literally batman with a more violent aang for a little brother. he was basically the messiest character on the show, cheated on both his gfs with each other and fucked them up so bad they turned gay for each other (which was funny as hell of the writers by the way. his reaction to them coming out in the comics was GOLD. ik my boy was fighting back tears.) so, logically, I should hate him like 90% of the fandom, right?

well obviously 90% of the fandom HAS NOT WATCHED THE FUCKING SHOW is MISOGYNISTIC or HATES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

I have. so much to say about this.

for one. did we watch the same show. mako is one of the most selfless, hardworking, and considerate characters, which he shows multiple times—it’s a major point of his character, actually. he’s the protector, the nurturer (*cough* the eldest daughter). down to his backstory, he shielded bolin from the worst bits of the underworld as best he could while still providing. from eight years old, all alone, he provided. that’s honestly what sets mako apart from literally being Batman (lmao) and why I don’t actually mind his backstory. he was put in an impossible situation, and told to figure it out. he was given no reprieve from the extremely traumatic event of watching his parents die by the element he wields, the one that he has to learn on his own to use to protect bolin.

the other thing is that a lot of his actions are selfish in a way. he doesn’t really care much about the street rats in the same position he was once in the beginning. but even that selfishness isn’t in his own interest—it’s selfishness for the sake of bolin’s well being. one thing that really hits me hard is the brothers’ relationships with food while on the streets. I’m going to make another post about that soon because I don’t want to ramble too endlessly on here. it’s really personal because. eldest daughter who grew up poor. yeah.

second, fandom misogyny. this makes like. no sense but I swear I know what I’m talking about. okay so misogyny is about gender right? but let’s step away from the cutout copy idea of gender, like genitals or fem/masc presentation or pronouns. think of gender as a set of inherent preconceptions, ideals, or societal expectations. that’s what it is but specifying that makes more sense. mako is a dude who is referred to with he/him and he looks like a guy but he represents a girl. mako is expected to be nurturing but not overbearing. present but not annoying. a provider, but don’t ask for anything in return. mako can’t cry in front of bolin, it’s not right for a little boy to look up to someone fragile. mako needs to work, but tiredness is not allowed. don’t be overly cheerful, it’s annoying and unfitting, but too much gruffness is just haughty.

did you feel like you were reading the transcript for that scene about how hard it is to be a woman in the barbie movie? good, because that was the intention. mako, to me, represents the idea of a sibling who is forced to also be a parent, whether or not they are the eldest, and often a girl to a boy. it could be because parents are absent or dead or bad at parenting or just foolish and inattentive. mako is hated (aside from that messy ass romance plot) for almost all the same reasons as katara and that just. infuriates me. like I have this one perfect representation that reminds me of my own background (sorry katara ily and you represent my rage) while aligning with my identity and everyone is shitting on it?? fuck mako haters he’s my special boy

last point. have you never heard of character development in your lives. did you not all love Zuko’s redemption arc, and then as soon as a dumb teenager who’s never had romantic relationships fucks up JUST AS BAD AS THE OTHER TWO PEOPLE INVOLVED (sorry korrasami ily but y’all were nasty for not asking to kiss mako) you’re all like ‘unforgivable’?? like he didn’t even have a redemption arc because HE WASNT AN EVIL CHARACTER. he was a poor kid looking for a sense of stability and he fucked up. he felt bad. I don’t think any of them apologized, despite the fact one was needed all around. he grew as a character because he let himself find stability and mature before seeking someone new to use as a life raft who was already sinking themselves. I truly believe that korrasami—had it not occurred at the end of the series—wouldn’t have worked out either.

all of them were unstable and lost and scared for their lives almost constantly. that’s not a healthy place to be in to seek a relationship and they none of them were good for each other until they gave themselves time to step away from romance and heal.

What's your favorite piece of Addams Family media? P.S. be warned I have a list of all my burning questions about your amazing fic

The original comics featured in The New Yorker and in compilations over time by Charles Addams are my favorite. I write Wednesday just slightly more in line with that interpretation than the 2022 series in CftF (including her extra toe 😘).

Layla doesn't know how write anything short, so here's more on my opinions of The Addams Family interpretations over time:

I frequently watch the ’64 Addams family television series, have been through it in order with the DVD box set a few times (the very first time I ever saw it, I was five and a flower girl in my cousin’s wedding and I was the only child in the limousine and the adults were boozing and wild - my parents were not there - and my cousin put on the TV that was in the back and The Addams Family was the only thing that would come in on the signal. I was TICKLED by Cousin Its and told my dad about it and he would sometimes find reruns it on TV and tell me to come watch because he was a big fan growing up when it was originally airing). It’s also on free on its own channel on FreeVee 24/7 in the USA with Amazon Prime and I fall asleep to it. If you’ve not watched - like, let’s remember this was filming literally at the same time the Civil Rights act of 1964 was passed so it’s not going to completely fall in line with today’s views of race/gender/culture, etc. For the time, the Addams Family was considered progressive for showing a loving couple on television and poking fun at traditional US expectations (Morticia and Gomez are horrified when Pugsley wants to join the Boy Scouts, for example). In this version, Morticia is far less cold and detached than she is in the comics. She’s sweet on Gomez even if she rolls her eyes at him regularly and when the kids are actually present (Pugs&Wednesday are often not in episodes at all which is probably for the best given we know about everything with children on television sets) she is far warmer than in the original; I probably write her closer to this Morticia than the original or W22.

Next I’d say Addams Family Values, followed by The Addams Family ‘90s movies, and then Wednesday 2022. I think that the ‘90s movies were a pretty “bold departure from the source material” (to quote the Beetlejuice musical lol) on Wednesday’s character, in particular, than either of the previous media, and then it seems like the ‘90s version of her is what T.B. was running with for her characterization in W22. I’m not keen on the musical (though I wish I could see Michelle Visage as Morticia in the West End) and I don’t care for the animation style from the 2019 movie so I haven’t watched it and I haven’t ever seen the ’92 animated series.

I think like anything that’s been done and redone, you can enjoy each interpretation for what it is, understanding it’s more inspired by the source material, rather than a 1:1 match of it. Much on the source material and if you like it, you like it - if not, walk away. I LOVE all three versions of Beetlejucie for completely separate reasons and they all barely mirror each other besides the actual character names and premise (not so sure about this new movie though IGBH, I will be going in with ZERO expectations). In the opposite lens, I ONLY like the ‘90s sitcom of Sabrina and don’t care for the original comics and (believe it or not) I don’t like the Netflix series. These examples are just that this sort of genre is for different audiences at different times, and sometimes you’ll like it and sometimes you won’t. I think taking this fun/macabre genre that is for us weirdos and giving it new life every few generations is a nice way to include other people in on the gags and the kooky and the spooky who otherwise might never have given it a try. IDK - I’m just down to clown with the Addams Family in a variety of ways and there’s really fewer families I’d personally fit in. ☠️

K so Nicki2 and Isabel have leaked and I hate their designs but like. earlier today I texted a friend some thoughts on them and I’m just gonna copypaste it here and edit it slightly to fit blog post format

Okay so. Pessimistic prediction, but I think these dolls are going to go over the worst with collectors/long-time fans. Not only are they pulling a Tenney and usurping a doll of color’s year, they’re dropping before Claudie’s second book is even out, before Kavi’s FIRST book is even out, AND are white in a time period where it would be insanely easy to put in dolls of color. AND reusing names? Hoo boi.

I don’t know how well they’ll go over with general audiences cause I’m sure the 90s nostalgia will sell but. Will it sell THAT well? As well as the fact that with the leaks I can now say the dolls look incredibly generic AT BEST. I babysit two girls in the AG target range who are actually like. The ideal AG targets. The oldest is obsessed with Kaya and wants to get all her historically-accurate accessories and her sister is obsessed with the Truly Me dolls with multicolored hair. I don’t see the oldest being really into Y2K dolls with no books (yet) and the youngest would just think they look boring compared to her JLY119. They just look bland as fuck, especially Isabel, ESPECIALLY after how poor Kira selled. They’re also coming with journals and not books and I can tell you from the instagram section of some Kavi posts, parents will NOT be thrilled about that.

This is literally the only time I have had NO hype for a new doll. Even with the disappointment of Courtney’s blonde whiteness I was still hyped to see her collection, these dolls just feel meh at best. Like they couldn’t even make them biracial? If they have to be white at least make them look interesting, I said this before with Courtney and Kira but there are ways to make white dolls look good. Joss is white but looks completely different from the other brunette dolls, for instance. Blaire is ginger but looks different from Felicity and Mia. They don’t have any white dolls with black hair yet, they don’t have any with significant birthmarks. They’re just bland white girls who look like AG just pulled them from the JLY line cause they were scared Claudie and Kavi wouldn’t sell and needed some whities to fall back on.

Instituting a ban on blondes after this. AG gets a 40 year timeout from blondes.

Greetings! I'm rereading your headcanons for the Arcana, and they're all very well-written and interesting. I wonder, do you have any ideas about how MC and Asra grew close and started a romantic relationship before the plague? No pressure if you don't feel like answering.

Hello!! I’m so glad you enjoy my headcanons :) even if I don’t write as much as I used to, I’m proud of my work. Based on your message, I wasn’t sure if you were asking for headcanons or just my thoughts, so I’m going with the latter, but feel free to submit another request if it was actually the first one!

So, as usual, I’m gonna add a little disclaimer stating that I haven’t played the game in a very long time, and can’t really remember what’s canon vs fanon, so forgive me if I say something that’s just blatantly wrong. Also, I’m referring to Asra using he/him just to differentiate them from the MC, who I’m referring to with they/them, and I am aware that Asra uses he/they.

Anyway, the game itself gives us very little to work with in terms of MC’s backstory with Asra (obviously so people can fill it in how they please), but I do believe that it’s canon that the shop used to belong to MC’s aunt?

In my mind, I always imagined that MC’s aunt was a semi-well-known magic user, and MC left their home to study with her and learn magic and such. They probably worked at the shop as well, since they lived there and it would be a bit rude not to help out.

Now, this is where I’m essentially just making things up: I believe that Asra and MC bumped into each other a lot without ever really having a proper introduction in the first few months. I’m not sure if there’s any indication about what Asra was doing after his parents disappeared, but I’m like 90% certain he was just homeless and making money by running errands or doing tricks/small spells/tarot readings for people. So, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that they casually saw each other around when MC was exploring or running errands for their aunt.

When it comes to a proper introduction, my mind is split between a cliché meet-cute where they literally run into each other, a curious MC seeking out Asra because they think he’s mysterious and therefore must find answers, or MC’s aunt hiring Asra as part-time help. Either way, it definitely starts as a casual friendship between two magic users who feel a little out of place, with Asra absolutely working at or spending a lot of time at the shop.

Over time, I think the two would naturally grow closer as they harness their magical abilities together. Asra has found a place that feels like home, and MC has found their first close friend in a new country. I think it would be a little co-dependent from the start, given Asra’s unfortunate circumstances, and MC becoming the owner of their aunt’s shop (it’s never confirmed, but personally I believe that the aunt died and left a young mc to take over).

At some point, after the aunt was gone, Asra would move into the shop (it’s practical, even if it’s only platonic, since he works there and MC is probably a little lonely), and while things might not be completely romantic, feelings are probably developing. I always imagined MC and Asra to be around the same age, so they’re probably young adults at this point, and still figuring things out, but they know that they want to be together in some way.

I don’t think there’s a clear line that can be drawn between “before” they loved each other romantically and “after”. Like, yeah, there’s a first kiss, but it doesn’t feel like a giant momentous moment, it’s just a casual action that feels completely natural. Neither of them probably even process it as the first time, and wouldn’t remember it later, because it just fits. And if you’re thinking about the first “I love you”, then I hate to disappoint, but I believe they always said it platonically, so neither really registers when it becomes romantic.

At least in my opinion, Asra and MC are the ultimate best friends to lovers, and it happens like a frog in a boiling pot of water. They don’t even realize that they’re in a committed relationship until MC dies and Asra finds them back at square one. Then he’s like “oh fuck how do I recreate 6 years when I don’t even know how it happened?” Falling in love and being with each other every day was as natural to them as breathing, and having that relationship stripped away suddenly must have felt like being dropped into ice water.

Anyway, those are my basic thoughts! Not very detailed, because, really, there is no canon backstory! This isn’t even what I use for my OC MC, it’s just the vibes I picked up when I first played through :) let me know what you think, and what you would change! Also please let me know if there are any mistakes, because I typed this all out on my phone at 1am and just kinda rambled without thinking

I asked, you answered, and you shall receive!!!!!

Yesterday I said I could post something about how Casey wrote the character of Nora in the book and how she used Jewish stereotypes, but in a way that was just stereotypical to be stereotypical, and people seemed interested! So here it goes!

Let’s start with the name Nora Holleran.

Casey said that they purposely choose the name Nora because the character is Jewish. That wasn’t her original name, but it was changed when Casey made the character Jewish. Nora is in fact a Jewish name, pretty common, not as common as Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, or Leah. Old Testament names really transcend time if you wanna name your kid something super religious. Obviously these names aren’t just used by people who are Jewish, but if you wanted to name a character something that reflects their background, names that have that -ah sound at the end, hugely Jewish. Anyway, she picked a Jewish name because “Nora is Jewish” (said by Casey)

Next: Nora’s family. They’re known to be Jewish, rich from investing in Apple during the 90s, and from Vermont. Nora went home for Hanukkah (2019) which did shockingly overlap with Christmas and Christmas Eve, with Christmas Eve being the 3rd night and Christmas the 4th. So apparently Nora’s family REALLY celebrates if she’s gone for the full 8 nights. Nope, more like Casey needed her out of the way and figured Hanukkah was be best so let’s make her a Jew! Mazel Tov!

The biggest take away about Nora’s family, is that it really fits into that Rich Jew stereotype. It comes up because Nora said her parents would tell her to quit journalism and run away to a cabin in the woods and own a million LL Bean things and then June says the investing part. Casey purposely wrote her as a rich little Jewish girl. Because, reminder, Jews aren’t rich!!! We don’t have secret money powers!!! I (Jewish) grew up on food stamps, 3 pairs of underwear for 12 years, house taken by the bank, cried when I had my lunch tray taken away from me because I couldn’t buy it. Jews aren’t rich. Are there some who are just by happenstance? Sure. Just like how there are rich Hispanics, Asians, Indians, Black people, White people, anybody. But she makes sure to say that the Jewish character is the rich one. Also from Vermont, which is a pretty damn Jewish state, but I don’t bump on that as much because her grandpa is Vice President and most democratic candidates do tend to be Northeastern, so that doesn’t hit me as much. But it’s still another tally on the board.

Nora’s physical appearance: Curly hair “nest of curls” Brown hair.

Nora is described as having curly hair multiple times. People (antisemitic fans of RWRB in the discord) have yelled at me about this before, saying that not only Jews have curly hair and that I’m erasing anyone who’s not Jewish who has curly hair. Which is just, literally insane. Nobody is saying Jews own curly hair, but it’s is a stereotypical physical characteristic of how people describe Jews. If the character wasn’t Jewish and she had curly hair it would be like “Okay, cool, curls.” But because we know she’s Jewish, you see that in your head. You form the picture of the rich Jewish girl with curly hair. She used a common Jewish description to describe her because it’s easiest. It’s not… offensive technically, but it sorta is?

Like, do Jews have curly hair? Not all, obviously, but yeah, a lot of Jewish people do tend to have curly hair. I have curly hair, many of my Jewish friends don’t. So it’s true, but not always. It can be offensive, like saying someone has Jew-hair or saying someone is Jewish because of their hair. But a Jewish character having curly hair isn’t directly offensive.

When it becomes more of an issue, is when that curly hair description is used as the physical representation of a character’s Jewishness. Nora isn’t known to be religious (totally fine), she’s ethnically Jewish and seems to be holiday religious (depending), the flashes of her ethnicity that we get is her hair. It comes down to the curls and Casey using the stereotype to say “Hey! Look! She’s Jewish!!! CURLS!” That’s when it gets a little problematic, because then it’s being based solely on a Jewish appearance.

Casey was raised Evangelical Christian. CMQ said that their family was “less religious” even though they was still fully in that environment. Their words were “I didn’t totally drink the Kool-Aid” referring to being totally into Christianity. Casey also said there was a lot of internal conflict and absorption of what those surroundings were, “I was still marinating in that environment.” Evangelicals have strong beliefs in their religion and look down on others, there are tons of Evangelicals who spew antisemitic nonsense but as a part of common rhetoric so no one knows that it’s really hate. It’s buried under the “love for Jesus.” There was an article I read and lost that talked about how Evangelical Christians don’t realize that Jewish people are being hurt by them because of the hatred from huge Christian leaders being so widespread and accepted.

Casey was raised in that environment. It’s impossible to not be surrounded by Jew-hate whether you know it’s happening or not, it’s there. That was absorbed. The way CMQ describes Nora as the rich Jew with the dark curly hair is really telling of how they see Jews. The description isn’t even the offensive part, but the fact that you know it’s only like that because that’s how Casey thinks it is. Casey lives in New York where that stereotypical Jewish appearance came from, so it was like, clearly, Casey was doing the bare minimum in knowing anything about someone who’s Jewish and used the same tropes as always.

This became very apparent to me, not with the book, because I didn’t mind Nora when I read it. It was when the movie decided Nora’s Jewishness didn’t matter onscreen. Casey could have fought for a Jewish Nora, but didn’t. Casey fought for other stuff, like the brand of ice cream, a dyed hair color, and little things like that, but an entire ethnicity NOPE. And here’s why, I don’t think Casey knows that Jews are an ethnicity and not just a religion. It says Nora is home for Hanukkah so she’s not in the White House, so Alex can call Henry and talk to June. Since there isn’t a June anymore, he’ll need Nora there. Therefore Nora would have to be there for Christmas, and in Casey’s mind and the mind of the production… NO JEWS ALLOWED AT CHRISTMAS!!! ITS NOT YOUR RELIGION!!! So they removed her leaving, removed her Judaism, removed her Jewish ethnicity by not casting a Jewish actress. But, like, newsflash, you can be Jewish and go to a Christmas party or an Easter party, you can even walk into a church and not burn!! Crazy!! Because it’s not just a religion. But since they didn’t need her being Jewish (religiously), Casey didn’t know you can still be Jewish without religion, and the ignorance erased an entire minority from the film. And also, Jews aren’t there when you need them and easy to throw out when you don’t. If you write a Jewish character, you can’t just decide to fuck that for a paycheck, or you’re just antisemitic.

TLDR: Casey used stereotypes for Nora and when it became clear that the movie wasn’t going to ~require~ Nora to be religiously Jewish, Casey (with their limited background) didn’t know what to do

Okay first a little hc family background: Blaine’s mom is Filipino Pam who? Lol and his Dad is white/American. His dad was married before and had cooper with his previous wife. When he remarries he has Blaine. This also explains the big age gap between Cooper and Blaine and why they have such a complicated relationship.

Now back to the language: I think Blaine tries to teach Kurt some little words when Kurt eats at Blaine’s parents house. Blaine speaks some Filipino with his mom and Kurt is eager to learn what they are talking about. So Blaine will teach him some useful words and phrases like ‘food’, ‘sorry’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ but also important words like ‘love’, ‘kiss’, ‘boyfriend’ etc. I dont think Kurt will ever be fluent in Filipino but he likes that he knows the words Blaine has taught him!

Usually they keep the lights on. Even their first time they had the lights on. Yeah they both felt really shy but they are also just really curious and really into the idea if seeing the other person. They love looking at each other. Even if they sometimes get insecure about their own bodies they just wouldn’t want to miss out on looking at the other. Now, when they have late night sleepy sex they can’t be bothered to turn the lights on and just focus just more on feel and touch. They also love this.

I’m sure that in s5b Blaine would want the lights off more because of his insecurities but Kurt keeps reminding him how beautiful and attractive he is. And they work through this together <33

Season 2, Episode 7: the crackle goes kiwi caper for @csweekly

AKA, one more week until Stockholm. Get pumped.

This opening is so cool. Love how it’s so seamless from the previous episode. We were promised Moscow and that’s what we get. There is a nice tension to the scene too that Player doubles down on. He’s glad to hear the IDs worked, which means they weren’t sure that they would.

Hello Mr Rhys Darby nice to hear your voice again. I would support your promotion to Faculty.

Dr Bellum has SEVEN uncles. And she hates figures of speech. I love??? These moments?? The Faculty are evil but also silly and completely human. It’s these moments that humanize them. Give them depth.

It is. SO cool to see Shadowsan vs Neal here. Maybe it’s because they’re in disguise, and Neal is an older operative, and they’ve got history, or maybe because it we get to see Carmen and Shadowsan really slickly working together on a caper. Up until now they’ve all been mostly improv. We are in the thick of it now.

Love the sibs getting to work on the warehouse and make it like home. Its productive for them! Look at Ivy’s smile! Zack’s sandwich!

OH yes! Okay Shadowsan is able to confirm for Carmen that Bellum wiped Gray’s mind. I love this moment because team red now has the most complete picture of the whole situation now that Shadowsan’s with them. And Player. Is so funny. He says “fair enough” with his eyes closed, finally surrendering the idea that Crackle is a sleeper agent. Listen, this kid does not like Crackle one bit and this scene just emphasizes it.

Also! Cool that Bellum just always has a project and wants to solve things. She’s a true mad scientist.

The enthusiasm with which Zack looks up to Shadowsan absolutely kills me. Shadowsan never speaks about ninjas in a particularly positive light because that’s what he is, and he knows it’s dark. But Zack puts a positive spin on it. He’s in awe of this man. He wants to learn. ~~he wants a dad~~

The way Gray barely looks at her and is all “you’re late”. Magnificent.

Okay but Shadowsan waiting for the cable guy is an important job.

Okay. Take one moment to appreciate how pretty cool and unique this caper is.

Listen. LISTEN. how funny it would be if “Peter” were actually Player’s legal name. He’s using his legal name as an ALIAS. That's next level crazy. That’s gotta be worth it’s own fic or at least a plot point in one. I’m totally cool with continuing to find fun ways to keep referring to him as Player in fics but this is one instance I might be moved to actually use a non canon name, because there are so many ways to take it.

My “Player has a grudge on Crackle” agenda goes berserk in this episode. They literally talk to each other and have NO idea. My mind is buzzing. Player does it for Carmen but how many times is he thinking about the “my best SCHOOL friend” line. (Not much because he’s comfortable and confident in his friendship but these kids are petty let me live)

So, Gray, what you’re SAYING, is that you wouldn’t mind doing the lighting for Boston.

The way Carmen dances to the music while doing her thing this caper is so cool.

Was. Was Neal the one Black Sheep stole the belt from in her flashback? I wonder that sometimes. It’s so interesting to hear the perspective of an older operative who watched her grow up there.

The panic Player has at the change of plans. Nice show of multitasking too he’s literally typing and not looking.

I love this entire near miss. Bellum, Neal, Gray could have all seen each other so easily this entire part of the episode.

And here’s what I love about Carmen. Between finishing the mission and keeping Gray safe, she doesn’t hesitate.

AH that moment he USES the crackle rod and Carmen is HOLDING her breath if he’ll remember but he doesn’t!

ULTIMATUM!!!! I love a good ultimatum. I don’t think this series has had one yet like this? Like this is super big stakes. I love Bellum. She’s kooky mad scientist who wants to solve problems and the next SECOND she’s like “let’s destroy the rice and starve a whole population” and “let’s cut the power to hospitals and air traffic” like. The others want valuable objects but Bellum’s solo capers are just??? Actual life or death???? It’s chilling. And I just love it when a character is told to surrender or else it’s one of my favorite tropes. VILE is still wanting her alive at this point.

I’m actually fully convinced, that, if given more seasons, there would have been a time travel episode courtesy of Bellum as a nod to the 90a series. This episode further lays the groundwork for her wanting to solve scientific mysteries

Haha. Carmen crashes with her glider two episodes in a row. (I am salivating over next week already)

Carmen is SO relieved that Gray wants to be one of the good guys.

Emotions run hot, words bite like vipers, and tears flow in rivers around the dining room table, while Wanda and Pietro discover the terrible truth: there are Hydra agents within the walls of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s inner sanctum, and they are after something even bigger than Loki's scepter...

“Hey Dad, you’re looking…um…yes.”

“An eloquent response if ever I’ve heard one,” quipped your father, looking at you with immediate judgment. “Did Tony Stark teach you that during one of his TED Talks?”

“Perhaps if you’d let me apply to college, I’d be a better speaker, Dad,” was your snippy reply. “And less of a humiliation to you.”

The room was cold, brightly-lit, and had all of the comfort and warmth of an execution chamber. Even Loki being at your side did nothing to calm your nerves, or make you feel less like you were about to go into the shark tank. Even the smells of the fresh stew, sitting in large bowls at each of the three place settings, did little to relieve the sterile, sharp feeling all around you.

“I was hoping Mom and the boys would show up,” you added. “They have better things to do than visit their estranged family?”

Your father shrugged. “None of them volunteered when I told them where I was going. No point in dragging them anywhere.”

The words stung, even if you expected their venom. It had been YEARS since you looked any of them in the face, and even now they didn’t care to look at yours. You took the file in your hand and slid it across the table to him. “I found this. As I said, I know everything, and I want to know why the hell you are so hateful, when all we ever did was try to survive.”

He raised an eyebrow, reaching for the manila folder, opening it silently and looking at the photo on top.

“Well, damn hell,” he mumbled. “That’s my mother alright.”

“So, start talking,” you said coldly, as you and Loki took your seats. You allowed your dad to look through the folder, scanning the files as well as the photo, and twisting his lip as if it was difficult to form a reaction.

“Y/N, it may come as a disappointment to you, but I’m afraid I didn’t know all of this either,” your father explained. “Lana never said she was some medical experiment. I don’t know what you expect of me.”

“Well, for starters, how about you tell me if she’s even dead? The way you kept her from us, I’m not even sure that was truth on your part.”

He shook his head. “No, that much was fact. She died some time in the 90s. In a home in Hoboken.”

The idea occurred to you that your dad’s words meant that there was a period of time where you were alive at the same time as Svetlana. If your father hadn’t kept you apart, what would she have been like to know? Would you have been close, your shared talents made even stronger by your bond? You’d never know now.

“And what was so bad about her that you abandoned her at the first possible chance?” you asked, your eyes narrowing.

Your father bit his lip. “Again, I don’t know what you expect me to say! Who wants the government on their doorstep with giant nets and handcuffs looking for their superhero daughter or mother? How would keeping you under my roof benefit any of us?”

You gritted your teeth but the volume of your words increased regardless of your restraint. “Benefit? BENEFIT? How about being a family and helping me in my time of need? I mean, look where I ended up, Dad! Your idea ended up sucking almost as much as your parenting ability.”

You heard Loki snort next to you, withholding a full reaction.

“Listen, Y/N, you antagonize me so, but I did it to protect you, and to protect the rest of us.” your dad reasoned.

You scowled. “I didn’t exactly need it. In case you haven’t noticed, I shoot literal fire out of my body.”

He shook his head. “Well, what am I supposed to do when this kind of thing happens to normal people like me?”

“Now I’m not normal, thank you,” you sighed woefully, sitting back in your chair. “Something every daughter wants to hear from her daddy!”

“No, you aren’t, and that’s what we all wanted to avoid,” he continued. “Growing up, my mother had to hide herself or risk being arrested. We had to move around from place to place, which I hated. I was always the weirdo kid with the weirdo mother who kept to herself. My classmates even accused her of being some kind of witch.”

“So, what I’m hearing is, you disowned us to prevent others from prying and mocking YOU.”

“Stop using the word ‘disown,’” he insisted. “If I disowned you, I wouldn’t be here.”

“You told me I had no choice but to go live with the circus!” you pointed accusingly. “And don't tell me Mom was the one who made that call, as she never so much as made a call for takeout.”

“Look, you really want the whole story?” your father barked defensively. You nodded silently and crossed your arms in a manner not dissimilar to his own. “Fine, then. I’ll tell you everything. Sit back, Y/N, because it’s a doozy.”

Wanda and Pietro had decided to go down to the lab, where Loki’s scepter was being kept. Upon hearing that Sitwell had plans to “stay late” that night, they took it upon themselves to follow up with the surprising information that you had discovered in the mountain base.

It was kept out of sight after Tony and Bruce decided not to mess with the scepter’s power, or whatever lied within it. The twins had no intention of unlocking the vault, of course, just keeping vigil over it for as long as possible, at least until they could figure out a way to alert security without implicating themselves or you for leaving New York. It was simply outstanding that none of you had been caught in the first place, after all.

Thankfully, there was no evidence of tampering with the vault or what was inside.

“Do you think he knows the combination?” asked Pietro.

Wanda shook her head, her loose hair falling into her face. “There must be six combinations needed to unlock that safe--”

“--and I know them all.”

Wanda’s heart stopped as a familiar voice chimed loudly throughout the room. A tan, bald man with glasses sauntered in, flipping on a light switch, smiling slyly.

“Mr. Jasper Sitwell,” Pietro said stiffly. “How did you…I mean…what are you--?”

“Ah, the Maximoffs,” Sitwell said, smiling softly yet menacingly. “I was thinking that was you who triggered the alarms in Old Forge.”

“Alarm?” asked Pietro, softly.

“Oh, the alert doesn’t sound where you are, but you didn’t think that we’d forgo having a warning system for our secret office to protect our information, did you?” he taunted. “Though, I will admit, I thought all of the Avengers were in on it. Just the new folks, huh?”

Wanda threw up a hand as if to send a beam of energy at Sitwell, but she was helpless under her suppression monitor. Pietro had also returned to taking his metabolism pills, rendering him only as powerful as any human on the street below.

“You can’t have it,” Pietro said. “We can call the others so fast you won’t have time to make it to the conference room with it.”

“Oh, we gave up on the scepter as soon as we found a bigger prize,” said Sitwell, pointing mockingly at Wanda. “You.” He pointed to Pietro. “You….and…” He pointed above him. “Her.”

“You want Firebird?” asked Pietro.

Sitwell nodded. “I have orders that she is Priority One, even above you two.”

Pietro shook his head. “But why?”

“That one is the biggest asset of all. She could withstand the center of a nuclear blast and bring a whole village to a smoldering inferno in mere minutes. She has the potential to be the biggest weapon of all…but more importantly…she could be the final clue we need to reinstate a successful Winter Soldier Initiative.”

“She will never go with you, and neither will we,” said Wanda, standing defiantly, but woefully aware of her ankle monitor suppressing her energy.

Sitwell chuckled. “Silly girl, I’m far from the only agent here, and I’ve already told the others that we will make our move tonight. In fact, they may be here in just a few moments…”

“Lana was an unstable, unpredictable person, and she was ever since I was born,” your father began his tale. “I never knew who your grandfather was, but I always thought it was from a careless one night stand or some assault.”

You were disgusted by the way he so casually suggested that he was raped into existence. You felt sick to your stomach. Loki slipped his hands onto yours from under the stable, and you could feel him gently running a thumb over your knuckles, as if that would calm you. You gritted your teeth and let him continue in his bitter, miserable tone.

“As a boy as young as seven, I had to come home from school and mow lawns for anyone in town with a fiver to spare, just to keep myself fed, because my mother couldn’t hold down a job for more than a week. Whatever she would call an ‘accident.’ it was always inevitable that she would set some shit on fire before being fired herself. She usually did drugs or smoked weed or drank herself to sleep. The few times she tucked me in, I was always afraid she’d cough and spit brimstone on me.”

You gripped Loki’s hand tightly and bit your tongue.

“She would try to come to my school functions or throw me birthdays whenever she was sober, but it was always such a risk that I’d fake sick or beg the teacher to get me out of it so she wouldn’t have to show her face and compromise the safety of the neighborhood. Then, when I was eleven, it happened.”

“It?” you asked.

“We got into an argument, and she called me ungrateful,” you father went on. “I called her a lazy bitch.”

Loki looked repulsed. “You called the woman who gave you life a ‘bitch’?”

“There was no helping her,” your dad continued. “She needed to hear it. But it didn’t matter…she lost control, and her hair caught onto the gas stove, and the house blew up with no warning. The neighbors’ houses were burned to the ground, and an old man died.”

You felt your insides drop. “No…”

“She walked right out of the fire like it was merely a sauna, of course,” your father mentioned. “She also was able to block my body from the worst of it, but my eardrums blew out, my skin was burned, and I was completely deaf for nearly a month.”

“Oh my god,” you whispered.

“There were CIA all around us for a long time after that. Police called it an accident, but there were rumors in the neighborhood that some superpowers were involved, and that Old Lady Andrews was a witch. I was constantly on edge, fearing that we’d be found out. It was already humiliating enough that I had a psycho mother and was homeless to boot--”

“--I’ve fucking heard enough,” you moaned, getting up from your chair. “Stop it.”

“As soon as I could, I left her alone, which is how she liked it. I changed my last name, left the state…”

“SHE NEEDED YOU!” you yelled, pointing an angry finger as your hair ignited and your skin went as red as an apple. “You didn’t ONCE ask her if she needed a therapist? Or help controlling her powers? Did you ONCE try to help her out of love from her only son?”

“You can’t possibly understand what it’s like to have a weapon for a parent,” your father hissed. “How every day I walked on eggshells, hoping nothing would give her away, or embarrass me, or destroy our lives. The stress and trauma that puts on a little boy--”

“--I still don't see why that means you had to shut out your only daughter and treat her like a family secret,” Loki interjected.

Your father turned to him. “I’m sorry, I forgot to ask before…but aren’t you the one who nearly destroyed New York City?”

Loki looked at you. You nodded subtly. He turned back to your father and said, “Yes, I am. I am also madly in love with your magnificent child, and see her for everything that you didn’t.”

You clenched your jaw as you waited for your father to react to Loki’s admission. It took nearly thirty seconds of awkward, stilled silence before he smiled, chuckling and shaking his head in disbelief. “I should have known.”

“What do you mean by that?” you asked.

“Your mother didn’t always think you should go off to join that circus,” he explained. “In fact, at first she tried to talk me down. She said circuses turn good girls into sluts. I suppose she was right.”

You couldn’t stop Loki from quickly moving around the table, clearly ready to throw a punch for going too far.

“Loki! NO!” you yelled, throwing a small fireball in between the two men just in time, sending both of them ducking for cover as the ball smashed through the wall, leaving a singed hole, smoking ever so slightly. “Loki, don’t,” you commanded as he came to.

“I won’t stand to hear you so desecrated by your own flesh,” Loki insisted.

“You will or you’ll leave,” you commanded, putting your hands on your hips and looking as serious as a stroke.”

He came around to you again as your father was slower to regain his bearings. “Are you certain?”

You nodded. “Thank you, babe, for your enthusiastic defense of my honor, but it has to be me that does this. Of all people, you understand.”

He nodded and bent down to kiss you, wrapping you up comfortably in his arms. You could hear your dad clearing his voice, commanding the attention of the room again. Loki tore himself away from you, going to the door.

“I won’t be far if you need me to throw him out,” Loki said before closing the door behind him.

Your father grunted. “That’s my future son-in-law?? An international war criminal, eh? You’re sure doing well for yourself.”

“He’s a God of Asgard,” you firmly announced. “His brother is Thor, God of Thunder! But what’s more is he loves me in a way no one ever has. How can anyone possibly do better?”

He got to his feet and walked slowly towards you. “By marrying a lawyer. Or an accountant. Or a dentist. Or anyone who doesn’t have a probationary council!”

You looked at him with disbelief as a realization hit you. “This was all useless. You will never be proud of me. You will never accept my differences no matter how much we snipe at one another.”

“Y/N--”

“--listen to you!” you exclaimed. “Just because you had a shitty life doesn’t mean you have to pass the shit on to me! Most people with souls would probably look at that and try to make things better for their kids, so the ones they love wouldn’t have to suffer!”

Your father gritted his teeth defensively. “It’s useless talking to you. I think that fire has consumed you.”

You sighed and shook your head in total defiance. “No, dad. It has illuminated me. Now, here’s the part where we leave each others’ lives forever.”

You went to the door and opened it. Loki hadn’t even had time to cross the floor to the elevator, so he turned around with interest as he saw your father walk out, you behind him, arms crossed in authority. He smiled. That’s my Bird…

“And don’t worry, I’ll never bother you again,” you called after the man as he pouted and began walking away, all dignity gone. “Go back to pretending that what you’re doing is living and not hiding away from the world, you…you pussy.”

After the man you no longer considered family was out of sight, you ran into Loki’s arms, finally letting the stress catch up with you.

“Oh, Loki…”

“Darling, you were magnificent,” he assured you, burying his nose in your hair. “Absolutely stunning, as I knew you would be.”

“I thought…I thought he’d listen and understand,” you said sadly. “Now I know he just held resentment all of this time inside his stone heart.”

Loki put a hand under your chin and drew your gaze up to his. “You’re better off.”

You shrugged. “But it’s not easy coming to terms with this. That I never really had a family or love in my life at all! I’ve always been alone.”

Loki kissed you with tenderness. “No, you will never be alone again,” he whispered softly. “Your family is here. With Wanda and Pietro. And Thor. And Stark. Even Rogers, if you’re in need of an annoying little brother.”

You giggled in spite of your stress. “He can be the kid cousin who comes over to use the pool in the summer.”

“And there’s me, my love,” Loki said, his voice lowering further. “I will never abandon you or treat you like that miserable tick who raised you.”

“But it’s not the same as having a family, Loki!” you protested, turning away from him. “It’s different when it’s family.”

“It doesn’t have to be different for us.”

You turned back confused. “Isn’t it? We’re lovers, Loki, dearest. We aren’t marr--”

“--let’s marry,” Loki suggested, as if it were as casual as musing over where to go out for dinner.

You felt your legs turn into concrete. You were anchored to your spot as the shock of Loki’s proposal ripped through you like an earthquake, turning you hot all over. “I…um..beg your pardon?”

Loki took your hands in his, looking you in the eye, nothing but sincerity in them. “Marry me, Firebird. Let’s start our own family instead.”

I don’t have the brainpower to develop this, but I had some thoughts on Nightwing theater (I’ve been meaning to write like this for all the tribes since I had a lot of fun with Sandwing theater)

Nightwings are big on tragedy and romance together in their theater. A good Nightwing story ends with two people who can never love each other again, either through death or circumstances, but yet still do.

Nightwing stories tend to favor female protagonists/point of view characters.

Ensemble driven stories aren’t uncommon by any means either, where oftentimes the group will end up imploding due to being turned against each other through circumstances outside of their control

Nightwing theater also relies a lot on character tropes, sometimes with subversions, but sometimes just taken wholesale. Some popular (and suitably ~tragic~ tropes include:

the seer who could predict everything except their own tragic future. Often a girl, but not always.

The counter to her is usually another dragonet who spits in the face of destiny but finds it comes back to bite her.

The young diplomat who is hurt by the world they enter into, often dead or changed for the worse by their experiences.

The precocious dragonet who harbors sinister inner workings, unnoticed by their parents until it’s too late.

The cruel royal, often hiding skeletons in her closet that explain how they ended up this way.

The evil non-Nightwing here to snatch away the hero’s happy ending- sometimes literally. Often an Icewing. Usually their main role is being unnecessarily cruel and/or violent.

These are, as all tropes are, flexible (the diplomat isn’t always a diplomat, they might be a student or someone else “educated”, the seer is sometimes able to outrun her tragic end, the royal is sometimes pleasant), it’s more about the themes they carry (you can ~barely~ sense the xenophobia I’m sure).

(Unsurprisingly, a lot of this draws on Nightwing history. No one will talk about Darkstalker and Clearsight except as boogeymen, but the fingerprints of their relationship are still pretty clearly visible in Nightwing culture)

In modern times, the prophecies are usually delivered through non-Nightwing means (a magical source telling them, a curse from another dragon that becomes real, just the writing on the wall that the protagonists can’t read) vs in the past when seers were an actual fact of life and could be used instead.

Nightwing stories aren’t all doom and gloom- part of the fun is not knowing how it will end, even though everything about it promises tragedy. While most of them end sadly, you’re always holding out hope that this time the protagonists will make it through.

Nightwing plays also draw on a very limited color scheme, as to make sure the performers stand out best. Props and stagedressing are often minimal, though music and sound in general often fill that space to give the necessary context of scenes.

You’d best believe there’s a ton of monologues and soliloquies. 90% of theater is people dramatically announcing their internal feelings, but only to the audience.

dark blue-black scales are seen as the most glamorous for the way they reflect light, and sets are often matched to these colors, especially if the lead role happens to look the part. Nightwing aesthetic preferences in general tend to favor rich, deep colors and cool tones- grey/lighter scales and warm tones are seen as the least attractive (unfortunate, since the time spent on the island lead to a loss of that “rich black” color Nightwings find attractive).
