My 25 Favorite Films of 2021
I’ll be honest... 2021 was a pretty terrible year, but there were plenty of good movies.
Here are my 25 favorites of 2021:
25. Nobody
Tumblr media
No one could ever imagine Bob Odenkirk starring in an action flick, but he defied all odds in Nobody. He manages to bring humor to a gun fight as a family man who gets tangled with the Russian mob. With the well-choreographed fight scenes and the unapologetic violence, Nobody is one the most bad-ass films of the year.
24. Red Rocket
Tumblr media
Indie filmmaker Sean Baker (Tangerine, The Florida Project) is back with perhaps his best film yet. Red Rocket follows a washed-up porn star trying to reboot his life in his Texas hometown. Simon Rex returns out of nowhere in a potential comeback role as the selfish but charming Mikey Saber who tries taking every advantage of the people in his life to get ahead. Red Rocket is wild, raunchy, and quite memorable.
23. Free Guy
Tumblr media
One of the only imaginative blockbusters of 2021, Free Guy takes audiences into the video game world where avatars discover the infinite possibilities of free will. Ryan Reynolds stars in his best film in years as the happy-go-lucky Guy who realizes that he’s more than just a background character. This film offers a  ton of action and a ton of laughs the whole family can enjoy.
22. In the Heights
Tumblr media
The perfect summer movie of 2021, In the Heights is a fresh film adaption from musical giant Lin-Manuel Miranda. Director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) managed to take the lively music from the Broadway hit and match it with dazzling visuals plus he put together such a strong ensemble. In the Heights will put a smile on your face and have your feet tapping.
21. Werewolves Within
Tumblr media
A rare successful video game-to-film adaptation, Werewolves Within is a fun murder mystery comedy where a classic whodunnit is given a supernatural spin. Sam Richardson is widely known for his comedic supporting roles in various projects, but rarely is he given the chance to be the leading man, which this comedy proves he can certainly do. He does benefit from a rich ensemble cast that will keep you laughing throughout.
20. The Tragedy of Macbeth
Tumblr media
It’s no surprise that Joel Coen, Shakespeare, and Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand are a winning combination. The Tragedy of Macbeth is one of the year’s most visually striking films. Between the stunning cinematography, the haunting production design and a pair of powerhouse performances from two of the greatest actors of our generation, this is perhaps one of the greatest film adaptation of any Shakespearian play.
19. The Power of the Dog
Tumblr media
Jane Campion, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind The Piano, returns to the film director’s chair after over a decade with The Power of the Dog, a haunting western drama filled with powerhouse performances from Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and rising star Kodi Smit-McPhee.
18. C’mon C’mon
Tumblr media
Joaquin Phoenix and newcomer Woody Norman both give raw performances in a road-trip family drama masterfully written by Mike Mills (Beginners, 20th Century Women). Phoenix plays a journalist who rekindles a relationship with his estranged nephew during a family emergency. C’mon C’mon almost feels philosophical the way it tackles complicated family dynamics, which Mills handles tenderly as the director.
17. The Harder They Fall
Tumblr media
The Harder They Fall is a bold, fun, exciting western featuring a powerhouse cast of nearly every trending Black actor in Hollywood from Idris Elba, Regina King, Jonathan Mayers, Zazie Beetz, LaKeith Stanfield to Delroy Lindo. This Netflix film is an adrenaline rush from start to finish with some of the year’s best choreographed action sequences. It appears filmmaker Jeymes Samuel may have gifted the streaming giant with a promising new franchise.
16. Zack Snyder’s Justice League
Tumblr media
The fans have spoken and they finally received the long-awaited “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, which was utterly butchered in 2017 by Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon. Zack Snyder’s artistic vision was able to flourish in what was really a superhero epic. And the inclusion of Superman’s supergalactic foe Darkseid, who was completely cut out from the original release, makes Thanos look like he came from Sesame Street. The Snyder Cut is an Olympian triumph that sadly did not get the proper treatment it deserved years ago. And if you watched the four-hour film uninterrupted like I did, pat yourself on the back.
15. Pig
Tumblr media
Nicholas Cage gives his best performance in decades as a truffle hunter in search of his beloved pig who was kidnapped from his secluded home in the wilderness. While comparisons to John Wick are common, Pig is actually quite a moving drama from newcomer Michael Sarnoski.
14. The Green Knight
Tumblr media
The Green Knight is a visually-stunning medieval fantasy adapted from a 14th-century poem about the nephew of King Arthur and his quest to confront a life-or-death challenge from a mythical being. Dev Patel reminds audiences that he is an actor capable of any genre.
13. Nine Days
Tumblr media
One of the most underrated films of the year was Nine Days, a thought-provoking drama that tackles the concept of life itself. Winston Duke proves he has the dramatic chops to be a leading man playing a man who interviews candidates to become human souls to be born. He’s joined by a strong ensemble which includes Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, Tony Hale, and Bill Skarsgârd. Nine Days is a deep, emotionally-enriching feature debut from writer-director Edson Oda.
12. The Suicide Squad
Tumblr media
Never has a film franchise go from absolutely horrible with its first installment with truly awesome with its sequel. The Suicide Squad is an unpredictable, action-packed hilarious entry into the DC Cinematic Universe thanks to writer-director James Gunn, who helmed the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Margot Robbie returns with her best outing yet as Harley Quinn and is joined by a brilliant roster of B-list villains with standout performances by Edris Alba, John Cena, and Sylvester Stallone.
11. Bad Trip
Tumblr media
Laugh-out-loud comedies have sadly become so rare, but Netflix’s Bad Trip filled the void this year that replicates the formula made famous by Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, where a central plot weaves together real-life pranks on unsuspecting individuals. Eric André and Lil Rel Howery star in this cross-country buddy comedy which also features a hilarious Tiffany Haddish. If you’re looking to cry with laughter, look no futher.
10. Last Night in Soho
Tumblr media
Edgar Wright is back with yet another imaginative gem. Last Night in Soho is a psychological murder mystery thriller about an aspiring fashion designer who somehow transports herself into 1960s London where she begins living vicariously through an aspiring singer, putting both their lives in danger. Thomasin McKenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy anchor this film from beginning to end and the late Diana Rigg blessed the world with one final brilliant performance. Between a wonderful soundtrack and nonstop intrigue, Last Night in Soho will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
9. Dune
Tumblr media
Dune is the latest example that filmmaker Denis Villeneuve should be entrusted to every sci-fi franchise in Hollywood. He managed to adapt a film that had a semi-hokey 1980s predecessor into a beautifully-crafted work of art that would make Star Wars blush.  The extemely-high production value and the intense action only increase the anticipation for Part Two.
8. West Side Story
Tumblr media
Steven Spielberg successfully revived West Side Story in modern age of cinema with his signature filmmaking style. The stunning cinematography and well-paced editing enhance one of the greatest American musicals. The ensemble is filled with fresh talent including outstanding performances from Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose as well as Rita Moreno, who won the Oscar for playing Anita in the 1961 film and returns as a new character, the widow of the drug store owner who serves as a mother figure for Ansel Elgort’s Tony.
7. King Richard
Tumblr media
Will Smith gives the performance of his career in King Richard as the father of two tennis prodigies in the making, Venus and Serena Williams. The pursuit of the American dream is at the center of this sports drama. Even clocking it at nearly 2.5 hours, King Richard keeps you captivated from beginning to end.
6. Mass
Tumblr media
Mass is a devastating yet brilliant film about two sets of parents, one whose son died from a school shooting, the other whose son pulled the trigger. Martha Plimpton, Jason Isaac, Ann Dowd, and Reed Birney all give heartbreaking performances balancing grief and and anger with realistic restraint that prevented this sensitive film from feeling melodramatic. What feels like a one-act play, Mass is takes a difficult subject and allows the human condition to flourish naturally, thanks to actor-turned-filmmaker Fran Kranz.
5. Licorice Pizza
Tumblr media
Part coming-of-age comedy and part period romance, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza is refreshing in so many ways, one of them being that it stars two non-movie stars, one being Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, playing charismatic teenage child actor Gary Valentine, and Alana Haim (of the band Haim) who plays a fiery twenty-something who tries fending off his unrelenting effort to win her heart. Licorice Pizza is a charming film that features big names like Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, and Maya Rudolph, but Hoffman and Haim brilliantly carry it on their shoulders, a rare feat for two leads making their acting debut.
4. Zola
Tumblr media
Zola was one of 2021′s rare pieces of truly unique filmmaking and perhaps made history as the first-ever feature based off of a viral Twitter thread. Director-writer Janicza Bravo’s sophomore film is trippy, dark, unpredictable, and down-right hilarious. Taylor Paige gives a strong breakthrough performance as the title character, Colman Domingo steps in as a chilling villainous X, Nicholas Braun (of Succession fame) provides amazing comic relief and Riley Keough continues to be a rising star in a role that should (but will unlikely) earn an Oscar nomination as the manipulative Stefani.
3. Belfast
Tumblr media
Kenneth Branagh’s greatest film is also his most personal. Belfast is essentially his childhood memoir about his upbringing in war-torn Northern Ireland and how the cinema was true escapism for young Buddy as his parents strive for a better life for the family. Beautifully shot and terrifically acted, Belfast is a remarkable time capsule that also serves as a love letter to both Branaugh’s hometown and to film itself.
2. tick, tick... BOOM!
Tumblr media
Perhaps the most surprising film of the year is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s feature debut. tick, tick... BOOM! is an adapted autobiographical musical from Jonathan Larson, best known for his Broadway smash hit Rent, but the focus is on struggles of getting his unproduced musical off the ground. Andrew Garfield gives the performance of his career as the genius playwright and composer who is also a remarkable singer. tick, tick... BOOM! is an inspiring film that benefits from Miranda’s artistic vision, a talented ensemble, and really good music.
1. CODA
Tumblr media
AppleTV+ has gotten a lot of praise for its Emmy-winning comedy Ted Lasso, but its film CODA is by one of the best things on the streaming service still in its infancy. The title, which is an acronym for “child of death adults,” follows a high schooler struggling to achieve her dream of becoming a singer as her family, all who are deaf, rely on her to keep their fishing business afloat. CODA is soul-nurturing with good laughs and tugs at the heartstrings. Emilia Jones leads the cast with a remarkable breakthrough performance while Oscar-winner Marlee Matlin, Tony Kotsur, and Daniel Durant all elevate the film. CODA will renew your faith in good story-telling, which is what movies should be about.

Remmy!!!!!! Congratulations on the milestone! Your work is great! You absolutely deserve it. May I request an imagine with Torres where you have very curly hair (type 3a/3b) and he loves it so much and loves to help you wash it and style it and straightens it for you? Thanks! You’re a rockstar!
Omg ok I promise I’m back and I’m writing but I wanted to get to this one first before I went through the rest of my requests.... anyway boo I am honored that you chose me for this request, and I hope that I do this justice because you and your curly hair deserve all the love and representation in the world, and that’s what I hope to convey in this fic..... ENJOY 💛
Also based on this request it will be afab!reader
Growing up your hair was something exotic, like a wild animal held captive in a zoo, where the prying eyes and curious hands always tried to reach it, touch it. Just a touch they would say, as you would feel the sudden fingers who would stick their way in without a single permission being noted. But just like all the curly-haired people out there you learned to deal with those curious eyes, and even more curious fingers, until you met Joaquin.
His brown eyes never stared at you with that hungry stare, his tan fingers never seemed to inch closer and closer to your curls, but yet his sight was always on you.
You never understood it, not fully, until one night when your eyes met his in the bathroom mirror just as you were finishing your night routine.
It wasn’t neediness, it was nostalgia. When he looked at you, putting your hair up in its scrunchie, careful to not touch your curls any more than you needed to, he wasn’t really looking at you. Instead he was transported to a time where he was much younger, much smaller. A time where he seemed to be his mother’s shadow, especially in the late of night and the early of day. Seeing you tend to your hair with such carefulness and tenderness reminded him of a time when his mother would do the same, teach him to do the same.
And yet he never showed you.
His eyes though were always there watching you every night and every morning.
“Do you want to help me?” Your eyes found his for the second time that morning.
For once his fingers twitched, “Are you sure?”
You turned to him, looking him directly in the eye instead of using the mirror, “I trust you.”
He took a step forward, inevitably showing just how small your bathroom really was as the two of you ended up chest to chest. The only sound that could be heard being the drips of water falling of your hair.
You grabbed his hands and just squeezed them, “I love you.”
“Y yo a ti, mi amor,” Joaquin was once again back in the present and let you lead him to the sink even if it was only an extra step or two.
With your back to the mirror, your hands gripped the sink, your way of showing that you were letting Joaquin take the lead. He grabbed the gel that you use, getting the exact same amount you always use, and lifted his hands up to just where your hair was- waiting for your approval.
You nodded with a soft smile, and just let yourself relax as you felt Joaquin’s hands mimic the exact same movement you did each and every day. His face, filled with a look of intensity, reminded you how this was just a simple routine but it was at the same time a big step in your relationship.
He took a step back, or more like a small shuffle, his back hitting the wall in the response. The two of you stood there looking at one another, “Do you want to let it air dry or use the diffuser?”
Your smile grew bigger at Joaquin’s question, “I’ll go with the diffuser, if you’re up for it.”
He nodded, reminding you much like an eager puppy waiting for a toy, causing you to chuckle softly.
Once again the two of you ended up chest to chest as he sprayed the heat protectant in your hair, spinning you slowly so as to make sure that he got everything. Then with another nod of approval from you, he grabbed the diffuser and gave you enough space to flip your hair over.
You were sure that if anyone had decided to come in at that moment they would have either laughed or just stared in confusion at the sight. Joaquin kneeled in front of you, using the diffuser to scrunch up your hair just as you stood there motionless, bent over yourself.
There was something about not having to do any of this that made your body just deepens it’s ease. For once your arms didn’t ache. You thought that for sure you had almost drifted off from Joaquin’s soothing movements, especially with how you found yourself surprised when he told you he was done.
You looked at yourself in the mirror, your hair looking almost better than when you would do it, and then you looked at Joaquin’s eyes. There was no nostalgia or faraway look in his eye just pure love and adoration, for you. You and your curly hair.

Books to Read After Watching Julie and the Phantoms
Tumblr media
By Mackenzie Cutruzzula
First things first...
If you’re anything like me you haven’t been able to get the songs from Julie and the Phantoms out of your head. Whether you love music, a good ghost story, or a little bit of both, these books are on the edge of great.
Julie and the Phantoms: The Edge of Great by Micol Ostow (On Sale December 29)
Tumblr media
After the passing of her mom, Julie has lost her passion for music and is on the verge of being kicked out of her performing arts high school. That is, until she makes the ultimate comeback with her new band, Julie and the Phantoms. There’s only one catch: all of her bandmates are ghosts.
Back in the 1990s, Luke, Reggie, and Alex were on the cusp of rock stardom with their band, Sunset Curve, before an unfortunate encounter with Los Angeles street food brought their rock band dreams—and lives—to an end. Now, with Julie as their lead singer, the guys have a second chance to make it big and to help Julie discover the real power of music.
This novel based on Season 1 of the hit Netflix series is told in alternating points of view and include a full-color photo insert and exclusive story content not seen on the show!
If you love the music of Julie and the Phantoms try these reads:
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West
Tumblr media
While spacing out in Chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk, and added a message to her. We were not planning to kidnap one of them. Especially not the most useless one. But we had him-his room key, his cell phone, and his secrets. We were not planning on what happened next. We swear.

redwood: modern cowboy verse
Tumblr media
Originally hailing from Killarney, Ireland, Samuel’s Father, Conor Silas, was a cattle hand who worked for several ranchers in Texas alongside the vaqueros, herding livestock on cattle ranches before relocating West to California to work for a very successful mesteñero that caught, broke and drove wild horses to market. Eventually, having saved enough money to move on, Conor established his own ranch near the San Joaquin Valley in Clayton, California. It was a little later that Samuel was born, though tragically his Mother died shortly after, due to complications caused by his birth.
Samuel was raised by his Father and as a boy worked on the Silas family ranch helping to run the family business, honing his skills as a ranch hand to become capable of breaking even the most stubborn Mustang. With most of his family still living back in Ireland, Samuel was raised by his Father, the ranch hands he employed, mostly immigrants, like Conor himself and their wives; an extended multi-cultural family who saw to it Sam was always well looked after and helped him to become fluent in Spanish. His childhood, though tainted with the loss of his Mother, was never-the-less a happy one, spent outdoors mostly, growing in the sun and working with horses.
At the age of 19, having grown restless in Clayton, Sam left the family ranch to take up a position with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office as a Trainee Officer. After completing his education and training, he worked as an officer for five years before receiving multiple promotions over the decades, moving up from Sergeant to Lieutenant, then from Captain to Major. As a Major, he was shot twice during a siege involving hostages and nearly died from his injuries. His recovery was long and hard, but following it, he was awarded a medal and the position of acting Colonel in Sacramento. At the age of 38 he was successful in obtaining the position of Sheriff’s Deputy in the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Eureka, California.
Now 39, Sam lives in Willow Creek, California, a small town of less than 2000 people, famed for its Bigfoot Museum, nestled in the heart of the Six Rivers National Forest. Sam lives in a large wooden cabin on the edge of the forest with his dog; a one-year-old Irish Wolfhound, called Seamus and his horse, Diego; a dark brown Mustang that Samuel caught and tamed himself, when visiting the family ranch during his extended medical leave, taken after the shooting.
Samuel has had a few relationships over the years, with both men and with women, but none of these have really ever stuck. This is likely a result of his ambition and strong sense of justice, both of which have led to Samuel prioritising his career over his relationships, much against the advice of his aging Father, who would like nothing more than to see him finally settle down with someone and be happy. Though they never speak of it, Samuel’s explicitly aware that it is his Father’s greatest hope that one day he will give up law enforcement and return to take over the family business at the ranch in Clayton.
(Please note, for the sake of flexibility in threads, Sam’s backstory can be adjusted to move him to any small town in the USA.)

Opinion: DC and Marvel’s Multiverses Are Crucial To The Future of Superhero Film
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, buckle up kids, this is going to be a long one. Get some soda and some popcorn, or some green tea and avocado toast.
Back in the long-distant year of 1989, a little film called Batman released into theaters and became the film of the Summer. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as Batman and the Joker respectively, it was a cinematic triumph that heralded a new wave of superhero films taking their source material seriously. Followed up in 1992 by Batman Returns, a sequel which increased the fantastic elements but was criticized for its darker tones, Batman’s role in movies was cemented in place by continued success. Of course, Keaton and Burton would leave to be replaced by Val Kilmer as Batman with Joel Schumacher directing for 1995′s Batman Forever, with George Clooney stepping into the cape and cowl for 1997′s Batman and Robin, a wild disaster of a film which nearly destroyed Batman’s chances in movies. But then, in 2005, Christopher Nolan brought a gritty realism to the caped crusader in Batman Begins, and continued this successful experiment with 2008′s Best Film Of The Year, The Dark Knight, and 2012′s The Dark Knight Rises (which was....fine). By this time the DCEU was beginning to get started, so a new Batman was cast for Zack Synder’s 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and this role went to Ben Affleck. He reprised the role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Joss Whedon’s Justice League, but bowed out of the opportunity to write and direct his own solo Bat-flick. So director Matt Reeves was tapped to direct a new Batman film starring a controversial choice of Robert Pattinson as Batman. With all of this, the question of the past 30-odd years is: which is your favorite Batman? Which one was the best? And how do these films fit into an increasingly convoluted canon in which a film series is rebooted every ten years or so?
What if the answer is: they’re all great and they all fit into canon?
Now, before we think too hard about that, let’s take a look at Spider-Man’s cinematic installments, which is almost more convoluted and in a more compressed amount of time. Beginning with 2002′s Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, the amazing wall-crawler enjoyed a fantastic amount of success on the big screen, followed up by one of the best superhero films of all time, 2004′s Spider-Man 2. But Spider-Man 3 in 2007 took all of that goodwill and smashed it into the ground with a failure almost as bad as Batman and Robin a decade earlier. Plans for a Spider-Man 4 were scrapped, and eventually in 2012 director Mark Webb and star Andrew Garfield would bring a brand new Spidey to life with The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. Both films were lively and energetic, but criticized for trying to stuff too much into their films -- especially the second one. Sony Pictures was attempting to ramp up a cinematic universe much like Marvel Films was doing at the time, but it was too much too fast. 2017 brought another reboot of the moviefilm version of Spidey, this time directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, with Spider-Man: Homecoming, this time under Marvel Film’s banner (thanks to backdoor dealing), and another cinematic triumph in 2019′s Spider-Man: Far From Home. But, unlike Batman, Spider-Man’s dealings behind the scenes are nearly as convoluted as his series. Sony Pictures owned the rights to make Spider-Man flicks for years, until Marvel managed to make a ludicrous offer after Amazing 2 failed to catch on the way producers hoped. So Spidey came to the MCU under a joint production, which is how we got Homecoming and Far From Home, but also maintained a different universe with the Amazing films, and then 2018′s Venom, and a little animated motion picture also in 2018 by the name of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Class, this is where I would like to direct your attention to the origin of the extraordinary events we are discussing today. Or is it the origin?
Into The Spider-Verse successfully proved that not only is the idea of multiple universes all connecting on screen a good idea, it’s an Oscar winning idea. Spider-Verse is hands down the best animated superhero film ever, and one of the best superhero films period. But here we must take note of certain ideas. The film provided much setup for a world where young Miles Morales begins to emerge with spider powers, but then Spider-Man is killed right in front of him before he can learn how to use them. Enter a Spider-Man from a slightly different parallel dimension, who not only turns Miles around, but find himself inspired to realign his own life. Spider-people abound through the film, all of them having equal weight and the possibility of spawning their own franchise without having to worry about impacting the canon of other universes. This is something comic books have done for literal decades, but Spider-Verse did it with such care and devotion that it won Best Animated Picture and became a mainstream smash hit. Marvel and Sony both sit up at attention; could this work with the major mainstream films they’ve been producing? So the experiment begins: we have a teaser trailer for Morbius, based on a vampiric Spider-Man villain, which features a cameo from the Vulture character first seen in Homecoming. And after dropping hints that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could cross over with Tom Hardy’s Venom, Jamie Foxx recently posted about being cast as Electro -- a role he played in Amazing Spider-Man 2 -- for the third Tom Holland Spidey flick. Pictures went up on his Instragram seeming to confirm that not only was this the same Electro, but that all three previous Spider-Men -- Maguire, Garfield, and Holland -- would team up for the film. Multiple universes collide, a live action Spider-Verse, where everyone is crossing over with each other. Now, this lines up perfectly with Marvel’s MCU plans, as Doctor Strange has established in his film that multiple universes exist, and his announced sequel is even titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s here. It’s happening. Every Spider-Man film is canon, they’ve all happened, and we don’t need to worry about which of them make sense or belong. They all make sense.
But just before this announcement, a month or so ago DC let slip that their plans for an upcoming Flash movie are taking cues from the Flashpoint comic books, in which Barry Allen goes back in time and accidentally creates a brand new timeline that he has to correct. Michael Keaton has even been cast as Bruce Wayne, the same Bruce Wayne that he played 30-odd years ago, a casting choice many fans have been clamoring for for years. On top of that, once word was put out that Keaton’s role would be similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s role as Nick Fury in the MCU, Ben Affleck was reported to be joining the picture as Batman also, a team-up no one saw coming. Even Christian Bale is being courted to join the universe-spanning flick, but reportedly only if director Christopher Nolan gives his blessing. Multiple Batmen teaming up together in a Flash movie to combat crime? Of course I’ve already bought tickets. Batman is the biggest box-office draw outside of The Avengers. And this concept opens up plenty of opportunities for DC, who’ve done Elseworlds stories in the comic for years. Joker with Joaquin Phoenix proved that DC films not directly tied to the DCEU can and will do well on their own; The Batman with Pattinson will no doubt further confirm that. But now Batman Returns is once again a viable film mixed into a comic book cocktail of wonder and excitement? And what’s wonderful is that this isn’t DC’s first big attempt at this. Slowly and surely, The CW’s Arrowverse TV shows -- Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow -- have been doing multiverse crossovers for years, building up to 2019′s mega-event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which saw Brandon Routh reprise his role as Superman from 2006′s Superman Returns, which itself is a sequel to Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Superman II. And for one wonderful scene, TV’s Flash, Grant Gustin, got to interact with the DCEU’s Flash, Ezra Miller, confirming that these TV and film universes are indeed one big cocktail of parallel lives and dimensions that all interconnect while still being separate. Hell, we even saw Burt Ward, Robin from the 1966 Batman show, alive and well an in his own little world. Batman ‘66 is part of the wider DC Multiverse! How crazy is that? And we even got a small tease that Batman ‘89 is part of all of this as well, when we got to see reporter Alexander Knox look up to the Batsignal in the sky as Danny Elfman’s iconic score played. In one fell swoop, in as few as a casual couple of cameos, DC made all of their live-action properties canon in the multiverse, meaning no matter which version you like the best, they all work together and work from a franchising and audience standpoint. The 1978 Superman and the 1989 Batman both existed in worlds that ran sidecar to 2019′s Joker and 2011′s Green Lantern. It’s wild, unprecedented in cinematic history, and wonderful for fans of all ages.
Why is this the future of superhero flicks, though? It ought to be simple: no matter what movies come out, no matter how wild or crazy or outside “canon” they seem to be, they all can work and they all can coexist without having to confuse fans. Many people were feeling the reboot fatigue as early as 2012′s Amazing Spider-Man, and while there was a huge tone shift between Batman Returns and Batman Forever, the Bat-films were considered all part of the same line until Batman Begins started all the way over. Now we have Batman 89 and Returns in one world, Forever and Batman and Robin in another (which was already a fan theory, mind you). Sequels that don’t line up with their predecessors can just be shunted into a hidden multiverse timeline and left alone without the convoluted explanation of having to “ignore” certain sequels. Superman III & IV were ignored when Superman Returns chose to connect only to the first and second films, but now we can say that they definitely happened....just somewhere else. There is now a freedom of ideas and creation that can once again occur when making big-budget films based on superheroes. No longer do creative minds need to be restrained to the canon and timeline and overarching plots defined by studios years in advance; “creative differences” don’t need to drive frustrated directors away from characters or stories they truly love. Possibly -- just possibly -- good ideas can become the gold standard once again for comic book films, not just ten-year plans for how to get Captain America from scrawny Marine to Mjolnir-wielding badass. Remember when filmmakers decided to make Joker the same person who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents? Or when they decided to give Spider-Man the ability to shoot webs from his body instead of technology? That certainly wouldn’t fly these days; studio mandates would require adherence to previously established guidelines, or at least what has been seen in the comic. What if now we could get a three-episode limited series on HBO Max of Gotham By Gaslight? Or a big-budget adaptation of Marvel’s 1602? Simply trying to wedge old comic book storylines into existing Cinematic Universes no longer need be a thing! We could get some of the wildest interpretations of superheroes this side of Superman: Red Son. At least, that’s the hope, anyway.
When comic books can step away from canon for just a few minutes, worlds open up and expand. An entire multiverse of ideas can become a feast of entertainment for many. And when there’s already so many beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes as comic book precedent, so too can there be beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes for film. And the best part? Now they all matter. And I think that’s the future.

Interview with Kopfplatzen (Head Burst) Director, Savas Ceviz, a very articulate and thoughtful interview, I have to say:
(German cinema release date: 2 April, 2020)
How did you come up with the topic and why did you want to make it into a feature film?
Savas: Like everyone else, I read the headlines about "the monster", the "child molester" etc. I always wondered why are these people doing this? Something that is ostracized like nothing else? I wanted to understand what was behind it and so I started doing research. It quickly became clear: 1. It is an inclination that you do not choose and 2. There are many who do not want it, hate themselves for it and tormented by it, but can do nothing about it. We are talking about around 350,000 pedophiles in Germany alone, the number of unreported cases is estimated to be three to four times higher. It was not my responsibility to make a documentary and expose someone in it. And so "Head Burst”, the story of a pedophile came into being. Just to clarify, as some are confused by this: it is not about apologizing, justifying or otherwise approving criminal acts of a pedophile. Beyond the generalized "headline" mass judgment, it is important to look at this, to broaden and to dig deeper into the problem that affects all societies. What can it mean for someone to have such a tendency? I wanted to show that.
How did you win production partners? It was certainly not easy with a difficult material like this.
Savas: Indeed it wasn't. With such a material, unfortunately, you don't break open doors. I already had the idea in 2006, you can see how long it can take. For many years, almost every public speech in the (film) industry has called for bold substances. But it was very, very difficult to find someone who wanted to join in, finance, get in, that was very sobering. The first important breakthrough came from Susan Schulte (former head of the BKM script department and the SWR film editorial team), who liked the material very much, was brave and controversial. She brought me together with the two Kurhaus producers, Christoph Holthof and Daniel Reich. After initial hesitation, the SWR also got involved after the SPD Edathy scandal and the MFG has funded. I am grateful for the courage of everyone involved!
How did you convince your lead actor Max Riemelt and how did you work with him?
Savas: Since Max and I have been friends for a long time, I surprised him with it one evening. Max is very responsible in his approach and wanted to do justice to the character and the topic. Max's sensitivity and intuition are important for the character, who expresses many of his feelings and conditions only in nuances and looks. He also looks good, which was also important for the story I wanted to tell. Because all of us have shaped a clichéd image of a pedophile through the media. Mostly greasy, neglected, nasty. Max really did an outstanding job in "Head Burst". He then received the City of Hof Prize and was voted one of the five best actors of the year 2019 in Brazil, alongside Robert De Niro, Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix. And "Kopfplatzen" was among the ten best films of the year. It can now be nominated as a wild card film for the German Film Award.
How did you prepare young Oskar Netzel for the role?
Savas: We did a constellation casting (note: I suppose it means group casting instead of individual audition). It was important to me that Max and the actor who plays Arthur were not afraid of contact. In addition to wit, openness and talent, Oskar had an understanding of the role. He was well prepared by his parents and immediately understood what it was about. It was important for us to see that it was Oscar's wish and that he was gently supported by and not being pushed by his parents. Max then took great care of Oskar because he knows how it can be like being the only child on set. That helped Oskar and the film a lot.
"Kopfplatzen" is your second feature film as a director after the documentary "Der mit den Fingern sieht" from 2011. Do you want to direct more often in the future? Are you working on the next film?
Savas: Yes, I feel like it. Fortunately both films won prizes and received very good reviews and a lot of positive feedback. I am working on some projects, but no funding has been secured yet. But sometimes something unexpected or another project suddenly comes around the corner.

Verse 5: Red or Dead
Human verse / Red Dead Redemption Verse
Setting: Colorado, USA - 1882
Name: Samuel Oliver Silas
Age: 41 (born 1841)
Heritage: Originally hailing from Ireland, Samuel’s Father was a cattle hand who worked for several ranchers in Texas alongside the vaqueros, herding livestock on cattle ranches before relocating west to California to work for a very successful mesteñero that caught, broke and drove wild horses to market. Eventually, having saved enough money to move on, his Father established his own ranch near the San Joaquin Valley in Clayton.
Background: Samuel worked with his Father helping to run the family business until 1861 when the American Civil War began. Following the attack on Fort Sumter, Samuel volunteered as a soldier to supplement The Union army in their fight against the Confederacy and within a few months found himself stationed in the Colorado territory, to protect the gold mines from Confederates. Samuel already had excellent gun skills, taught to him by his Father, required for protecting the horses they had tamed, from rustlers. His time as a solider helped to hone these skills further. In 1964, following the appointment of John Chivington as Colonel of the Colorado volunteers, Samuel deserted his post in the army, refusing to take part in the unprovoked killing of peaceful Cheyenne and Arapaho people.
Shortly after his desertion, Samuel took up work in a newly established silver mine on the southeast slopes of McClellan Mountain near the Argentine Pass. Samuel lived in Georgetown and in late 1865 was involved in a bar brawl that lead to the deaths of two men, who, unbeknownst to Samuel, were both wanted criminals. Upon being dragged into the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, Samuel, rather than being thrown in jail, was given the full amount advertised for each of the wanted men and was rewarded his first ever bounty. The reward for both was worth triple what he could make at the silver mine in a month and so, eager to settle some of the gambling debts he had built up in Georgetown, Samuel started to track, capture and kill small-time outlaws on the side.
Within six months, after discovering he was very good at his new vocation and earning some notoriety, Samuel eventually abandoned his job at the Argentine Pass to roam Colorado on horseback, tracking criminals with the aim of collecting the biggest bounties advertised, usually preferring to bring them in alive as opposed to dead to maximize the financial benefit gained by their capture. Armed with a Bowie knife, a Winchester “yellow boy” 1866 rifle and two 1860 army model colts, he rides a dark brown mustang named Diego that he caught and tamed himself.
Current: Samuel lives alone in a small wood cabin he has built, attached to a stable, in El Paso County on the outskirts of Colorado City. Colorado City is a rough town where saloons are plentiful, and frequent brawls and gun fights break out. It’s a town  where justice tends to be meted out by a citizens' court and the bounty hunters don’t wear Marshall Badges. It is the perfect kind of town for a bounty hunter.

10 Times The Joker Almost Nailed Batman
https://ift.tt/2mWXDUm
We celebrate the craziest plans of the Clown Prince of Crime in honor of his first solo movie.
facebook

tumblr
He is the greatest villain of them all. He is the evil that tests Batman and makes the hero better. He is an uncontrollable force of chaos, more akin to a hurricane than a criminal, who strikes without warning. He believes that life is a chaotic farce and everything exists as part of a twisted game between him and Batman. He is the star of comics, television, cartoons, and film. He is the Joker, one of the most enduring symbols of evil in the last century.
The Joker is no match for Batman physically, so when he puts one over on the Dark Knight, when he “gets” him, it has to be a masterpiece of chaos and violence. These are just some of the greatest moments when the Joker put one over on his eternal adversary.

10. Death of the Family: The Dinner Scene
Almost Got Him moment: Made Batman believe he skinned his children. And he coulda done it too…
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo gave us a Joker for a modern age. He embraced what went on before but really upped the ante in terms of intensity. Snyder’s Joker wore his own severed face as a mask and threatened the sanctity of such long standing but icons like Alfred and James Gordon. It all culminated in a dinner scene at the Batcave as a brainwashed Alfred seemingly serves each member of the Bat family, Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Robin, Red Hood, and Damian Wayne their own severed faces.
read more: The Many Deaths of the Joker
The pages read like a fevered nightmare as the Robins and Batgirl all sit starring at their own amputated visages. Staying true to his character, the whole thing was a joke, and the Bat family were unharmed, but their confidence in their mentor and their own safety was shaken forever because of the Joker’s actions.

9. Mad Love (Batman: The Animated Series)
Almost Got Him moment: Harley beat Batman, and Joker created Harley. Although Mr. J didn’t quite see it that way.
The final episode of the New Batman Adventures is also its high point. The story deals with the origin of Joker’s moll, Harley Quinn, but it also serves as a reminder of just how all-encompassing the Joker’s twisted ability to manipulate anyone is. It was the first time fans learned that Harley Quinn used to be the Joker’s psychologist, and through sheer charismatic manipulation, he was able to mold her into his own twisted image. He made an educated woman, an expert of the inner workings of the psyche; believe that the world is a meaningless joke. Through the Joker, Harley had become a competent criminal, one who did what even he could not, successfully capture the Batman.
read more - The Best Batman: The Animated Series Episodes
In a moment that transcended traditional animation, the Joker shows just how depraved and selfish a soul he truly is by slapping Harley for making him feel inadequate because she defeated Batman and not him. The whole episode dealt with a broken woman’s devotion to the Joker, and her entire world came crashing down in one moment of shockingly realistic domestic violence.

8. Infinite Crisis “You Didn’t Let the Joker Play”
Almost Got Him Moment:  Joker saves the multiverse, in a way that the Justice League couldn’t. Take that, bats!
Infinite Crisis was a huge, continuity laden epic all boiled down into the essence of a Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman story. It was one of the biggest stories DC had ever attempted and it did shake the very foundation of the DC Universe, but with all the cosmic shenanigans, the story’s finale centered on one sick man, with no powers, forcing his will into the proceedings.
Alexander Luthor, the son of Lex Luthor of Earth-3, is the antagonist and the catalyst of the events of Infinite Crisis. His machinations are godlike as he manipulates multiverses like gears of a clock. Alex Luthor recruited some of Earth’s most dangerous villains to fight his battles against the heroes of the multiverse. Luthor dismissed the Joker as an unpowered wild card, a man who would be difficult to manipulate and useless in a fight against Supermen and Green Lanterns.
read more: Joker Movie Review
The Joker did not appear in any part of the epic, but is revealed by the prime reality’s Lex Luthor at the story’s climax. Joker sprays Alex with his signature acid flower and shoots him in the head, with a smirking Lex, who did not wish to share the villainous spotlight with the younger Luthor, declaring that Alex’s one mistake was he “didn’t let the Joker play.” This moment reveals that it could be a god, monster, or cosmic manipulator, whatever the case; the Joker is still more dangerous with a gag flower and a bullet. Sometimes the universe needs a master of chaos to do the things heroes can’t.

7. Batman 1966 TV Series: Cesar Romero's ‘Stache
Almost Got Him Moment: Every death trap, every gag, every cliffhanger. Shoulda taken those utility belts, Cesar.
Sure, the camp vibe from the 1960s Batman TV series set comics back a few decades. Even when Watchmen was being published, the public perception of super-heroes was still “BIFF POW WHAM!” Yet, for many young children of the '70s and '80s, the series was a gateway drug into the world of comics. While Romero camped up some truly ridiculous plots, there was something about his demeanor as the Joker that still strikes a chilling chord. That special way he had of frowning while wearing a painted on smirk, and the white face caked on over Romero’s signature ‘stache gave his Joker a sinister heir that transcended the shows limitations.
read more: The Actors Who Have Played the Joker
For many generations Romero’s performance defined the Clown Prince of Crime. Every time Romero appeared, he and his ‘stache would come within inches of taking out Batman and Robin turning his every appearance into an “almost got him.”

6. Batman #1: The First Appearance
Almost Got Him Moment: It all began here. Joker committed murder right under Batman’s nose until Batman figured out the eternal game.
Many times, especially in the Golden Age, a character’s first appearance only gives a readers a fraction of an indication of what the character would become. The Joker, being the Joker, defies expectations, and everything a fan needs to know about the character can be found in that first appearance in Batman #1. His use of poison gas, his terrifying penchant for popping up out of nowhere, his need to intellectually challenge Batman, all add up to relatively the same character that exists today.
read more: The Secrets of the Joker Movie
Based on actor Conrad Veidt in the silent film The Man Who Laughs, the Joker was a rarity for his day, as most villains were used to challenge the hero for one story and then fade away. Not the Joker, who endured, and despite some shifts away from the characters vile roots, he still exists almost identical to his 1940 appearance. This first story is so enduring that Chris Nolan adopted many elements for his first act in The Dark Knight including the unforgettable poison booze glass murder of Commissioner Loeb.
Even in his first appearance, committing crimes right under the Dark Knight’s nose, was a great moment of mastery over Batman.

5. Batman: No Man’s Land: The Murder of Sarah Essen Gordon
Almost Got Him Moment: In Gotham’s darkest hour, Joker managed to destroy the life of Batman’s best friend.
While Gotham was crippled and cut off from the rest of America’s infrastructure by a massive earthquake, the Joker strikes, kidnapping all the babies of Gotham. The Joker is confronted by James Gordon’s wife, Sarah Essen, and tosses her a helpless infant. When she catches the child, the Joker shoots her between the eyes.
read more: How Joaquin Phoenix Became the Joker
Many people treat the Joker as sort of an anti-hero, the freedom his manic behavior allows him is attractive to many fans, but this moment shows that the Joker is a brutal thug looking to take advantage of a tragedy to suit his own twisted machinations. The Joker took a delight in Gordon’s torment, promising even more pain in the future. The shooting of Sarah Essen, an honest cop and loving wife, stands as a constant reminder of the Joker’s cruelty. Batman’s inability to save his friend’s wife stands as one of Joker’s greatest victories.
Video of Bob Gun Batman 1989
4. Batman (1989) “Bob…Gun.”
Almost Got Him Moment: Batman robbed the Joker of his fun, but despite Batman’s careful planning, someone still died.
There are many fantastic moments created by Jack Nicholson in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie. From his fantastic origin sequence in Axis Chemicals, to the murder of his boss, Carl Grissom (played by the great Jack Palance), to his climactic church battle with Batman, but his greatest moment, like all great Joker moments, was random and chaotic.
read more: Creating a New Joker Origin Story
At the beginning of the film’s third act, the Joker tries to poison Gotham with gas filled balloons, when Batman swoops down in the Batwing and drags the balloons away, the Joker is incredulous. Like a kid who had his favorite toy snatched by a playground bully, the Joker pouts and asks his most loyal henchmen Bob the Goon, for a gun. Bob, ever loyal to his boss, complies and the Joker, without changing expression, shoots Bob in the gut. Batman ruined the Joker’s fun, and someone had to die, even if it was someone loyal and useful to the Joker. Even though Batman seemingly saved Gotham, people still died, making Batman’s victory incomplete.

3. A Death in the Family “The Crowbar”
Almost Got Him Moment: He killed Robin. Duh.
Yes, it was gimmicky to have fans call a 900 number and decide whether Jason Todd’s version of Robin would live or die. Yes, it robbed the story of any organic creatively, but even the most jaded reader has to admit the death itself remains shocking to this day.
Over the years, the Joker has used many gimmicked gags and traps to take down Batman and his family, but when it came to the moment where the Joker finally was able to kill a Bat Hero, he was just a thug wielding a blunt instrument. It was another reminder of just how dangerous and brutal the sometimes likable clown can be.
Out of Todd’s death, DC was able to ignite literally hundreds of story ideas from the arrival of Tim Drake, to Todd’s resurrection as the Red Hood. From one violent act with a crowbar, the Joker created a legend.

2. The Dark Knight “The Interrogation Scene”
Almost Got Him Moment: He did what no else could do, made Batman powerless.
One can fill a list of great Joker moments on Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight alone, but one stands out above the others. Yes, even above the pencil trick. After the Joker is captured, Batman and Gotham’s Finest believe that the ordeal is finally over, until the Joker turns his trump card, revealing that he kidnapped, not only Gotham’s beloved D.A. Harvey Dent, but Batman’s true love, Rachael Dawes, as well. There is one thing all the crooks and villains had in common in the Nolan Universe; they feared Batman.
Not the Joker.
At this moment in the interrogation room, fans and Batman realized that Batman had no power over the Joker. That the Joker did not care about pain, he couldn’t be intimidated, bribed, or threatened. The more violent Batman became, the funnier the Joker found the situation. This was a new type of villain, one who could not be controlled, a swarm of hungry locusts in a man’s form gleefully destroying everything in his path.
read more: The Dark Knight, the Joker, and Game Theory
As Batman races to save Rachel and Harvey, with just a few words (and a very well hidden cell phone bomb) the Joker is able to escape police custody. As Batman pounds on the Joker, it becomes clear just what an uncontrollable force the Joker is.
As Rachel burns, the Joker wins.

1. Dark Knight Returns ”The End”
Almost Got Him Moment: In his final moment, the Joker made Batman’s beloved Gotham see their hero as a murderer.
Nothing defines the relationship between Batman and the Joker, like the proposed final conflict. In Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, and Lynn Varley's The Dark Knight Returns, when Batman returns to Gotham after years of retirement, the Joker awakens from a coma to challenge the Dark Knight. Miller postulates, that without Batman, the Joker would cease to be, only returning when his other half was active. It was their final battle, and a battle in which Joker won. For decades, Batman refused to kill the Joker, but as the Joker snaps his own neck while laughing hysterically, it makes the world believe that one of Earth’s greatest heroes has finally turned murderer.
By destroying Batman as a symbol for justice and turning him into a symbol for selfish vengeance, the Joker turns the public, the government, and even Superman against Batman in the process. The Joker had won his greatest victory.

NXT Breakout Tournament Competitors
If you are just a WWE fan, then you probably don’t know too many of the guys in the NXT Breakout Tournament that was announced on Wednesday. These are some people from all around the Indy world, and even a couple big companies. Most of them are great in the ring, and have impressive resumes to boot, so here is some quick background on each of them.
Dexter Lumis was formerly known as Samuel Shaw, and is an alumni of Impact Wrestling. He was a psychopathic character who had an obsession with a ring announcer there, having a feud with Mr. Anderson. He left the company in 2015, and has been touring the independent scene since then. He has won various championships on the independent scene, but only won the Gut Check tournament while in Impact. While I have never seen him myself, he is described as a good wrestler, although not great. I think that he will have a similar psychopath gimmick in NXT, given that he is using Dexter as a first name.
Bronson Reed was known as Jonah Rock on the indie scene, and spent some time in Pro Wrestling Noah in Japan, RevPro and PROGRESS in Britain, WXW in Germany, and PWG in the US. I don’t know much about his character, but I do know that he was a good worker when I saw him in PWG. He wrestles as a powerhouse, and is known for being on the smaller side, but built like a truck. He did not win any titles in those bigger companies, but he has won several in indie promotions in Australia.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott was known as Shane Strickland on the indies, as well as Killshot in Lucha Underground. He has been all over the independent scene, wrestling in Evolve, WXW, CZW and PCW, as well as some larger companies such as Lucha Underground, Triple A and MLW. Scott has played several different characters across his many companies, so it is difficult to say what he will be using in NXT. Scott is a talented high flier and a striker, wrestling a very exciting style, but is also known for competing in deathmatches. He has tons of championships during his career, such as the world championship and the Wired Championship in CZW, the world championship in Evolve, the Trios Championship twice in Lucha Underground, the World Heavyweight Championship in MLW, the Ultra Heavyweight and Ultra Lightweight Championship in PCW, and the Tag Team Championships in WxW. He also won the World Tag Team League 2016 in WxW alongside David Starr, and tagged with Dante Fox (AR Fox), The Mack (Willie Mack) and Son of Havoc (Matt Cross) in Lucha Underground. Strickland is a great wrestler, and one of the ones that I know more about in this batch, and I cannot wait to see him in the tournament.
Cameron Grimes was known as Trevor Lee in Impact and on the independent scene. He was one of the more prominent stars in the Impact in recent years, as well as competing in PWG and several other independent companies. Grimes was an awesome heel in his runs, presenting himself as an entitled star of a larger company while on the Indies, as well as a generally nasty and slimy heel while in Impact. Grimes has an interesting style that blends hard hitting strikes with some flying moves making him a great fit for NXT. He has won the Impact X-Division Championship 3 times and the Impact Tag Team Championship with Brian Myers once, and won the PWG Tag Team Championships and the DDT4 tournament in 2016 with Andrew Everett, and plenty of other belts on the Indies. Lee is another great wrestler, and it’ll be awesome to see how much heat he can get with the NXT crowd.
Angel Garza was known as Humberto Garza Jr or simply Garza Jr on the independent scene and in Triple A. Garza has competed in a lot of independent companies, (mainly ones that were in Mexico or Lucha Libre themed) as well as in both Triple A and Impact. He was formerly known under a mask, but unmasked himself on a dating show of all things. Garza is a high flying wrestler, known for both that and his tag team prowess alongside Laredo Kid. While he has not won many championships in the larger companies he has been a part of, he did win the Turkey Bowl 2017 in Impact, alongside Eddie Edwards, Allie, Richard Justice and Fallah Bahh. I haven’t seen Garza compete before, so I am very excited for another luchadore to enter NXT.
Joaquin Wild was known as either DJZ or Zema Ion on the indies. He has competed in a whole load of companies, including Ring of Honor, Impact, PROGRESS, Triple A, Evolve, PWG, and so many others that I can’t possibly list them all here. Wild is another high flier, being a mainstay of the X-Division in Impact for a number of years. Most of his championship reigns came in Impact, where he won the X-Division Championship twice, and the Tag Team Championships once with Andrew Everett. Also in impact, he won the X-Division briefcase in the 2013 Feast or Fired Match. I have not seen much from DJZ, but from my limited experience with him in PWG I can say that I am excited to see him work in the WWE.
Jordan Myles was known as ACH on the indie scene and in several larger companies. He was known for wrestling in PWG, New Japan, Ring of Honor, Triple A, MLW, Pro Wrestling NOAH, RevPro and the NWA, while also wrestling in independent promotions like CZW, PROGRESS and WxW. Myles was also a high flier, much like many of his compatriots in the tournament, and while I only ever saw him in PWG and the Best of the Super Juniors Tournament in New Japan, he had an interesting character in PWG, where he would impersonate Stone Cold Steve Austin. I doubt that will be his character in NXT, but it may pop up a bit here and there. He has won lots of titles on the Indie scene, such as the tag team championships in Evolve with Ethan Page, as well as winning the NTV G+ Cup Junior Heavyweight Tag League in Pro Wrestling NOAH with Taiji Ishimori. Myles is another great wrestler in this bunch, and I am thrilled to see him in the WWE. Even if he goes to 205 live, which of the wrestlers in this tournament he is probably most likely to, he will bring so much talent to that roster.
And lastly, we have Boa, who oddly enough is not a new signee from the Indie scene. I had never heard of him, so when I looked him up online, I realized that he only ever competed in the WWE performance center, and on the house show circuit. While he is not a veteran wrestler from the indies, he did used to do Brazilian Ju jitsu. I have aboslutely no idea who he is or how good he is, so I guess positive thoughts.
So these are the participants in the NXT Breakout Tournament. Lots of really good wrestlers here, should be a fun tournament. Keep your eye on the Grimes vs. Scott match in the first round, that looks really great on paper. As for a winner, I’ll throw a prediction out there. I think that Jordan Myles will win the tournament, really just a guess as I have no idea who they like and who they don’t. But I guess we will see. I hope all of you will enjoy the tournament, and I will be reviewing it each week.

bitch I bet you thought I’d forgotten about Riverdale, “Chapter Thirty-Seven: Fortune and Men’s Eyes”
I absolutely agree with Archie’s wild careening off the side of the road of justice to plead guilty to a crime he “may as well have” committed. I couldn’t believe Archie was so preposterously on the money about himself: “I didn’t kill anyone, but I could have.” GOOD, ARCHIE. I love Juvie Archie. better than Fascist Archie!!!!
I didn’t google “prison powder” to see if that shit’s soap or for lice or what but y’all’ll fill me in on that won’t you
Tumblr media
“Leopold and Loeb” is just the level of allusory on-brand naming hubris I demand
“Captain Golightly” doesn’t seem to be a reference to anything other than a brutal dichotomy between whimsy and a dictatorial prison state
you know they hit us up with that Pop’s lighting not even at Pop’s! I never met a window I didn’t want to have bathe me in God’s light!
Sixth period is Intro to Film: the cross stitch quote on the warden’s wall, which I assume dude’s wife made for him because he and she adhere to traditional gender roles, is of course from Sonnet 29, referenced in the title to a play and 70’s movie very much about sexual slavery in prison (Archie has not seen it)
Day One at Juvie Coif: very good, uplifted, touchable but held fast
they really did the line-up of the Hot Dads of Riverdale right there: Tom seems to be eating pancakes and bacon, and FP is wearing a scarf like a headband but like a necklace
Fred’s flannel is an interesting mix of colors like, for a flannel, and Veronica appears to be wearing subtle yellow eyeshadow to go with her waitress dress
when were we going to hear about the three perjuring thugs? who corroborated Archie’s false confession???? cold
“Shadow County” is the third county in “Riverdale State”
The Blossom spawn: Dr. Patel seems to be the Cooper family GP with specialities in both obstetrics and neurology; Betty is still wearing her hospital bracelet
I never noticed the teensy blackboard under Alice’s kitchen cabinets; the Coopers are truly peak bourgeois chic
Polly’s itty bitty lace headband is good and the Farm has done wonders for her and Alice’s accessory game
Betty’s body language at “Uh...because I saw you and mom throw the twins on a fucking fire” is very funny (Betty has not told a joke yet)
Dilton Doiley is a canonically great dancer: RIP!!!!!!
I want to get out of the way that for some reason Jughead looks really good throughout this episode. I can’t explain why, maybe it’s because he’s finally wearing plaid again, but he looks good. if you thought he looked good in the first place, he’s back
is Betty wearing her Carrie: the Musical outfit?
last week I misheard Dilton and thought he said “Cardinal King,” and I was like, What? and then it got even better
Places Bughead are Fucking: the Blue & Gold office
Tumblr media
Archie > Dawson: God bless Archie but he does try to be personable with Mad Dog right away, unleashing one of his legendary “bros.” how old were you when you realized you couldn’t do a pull-up? I’ve never done a pull-up in my goddamn life and certainly not to a vinyl of a piano sonata
Mad Dog (I just wrote “God,” because I guess he’s that beautiful) has approximately 100 cigarettes, which he certainly does not smoke, so he is hoarding them for some grand purpose?
when Mad Dog turned around I swear I saw muscles I didn’t know the human body possessed. I’m talking fresh-out-of-the-science-tube Steve Rogers
Fwoopy hair is the best hair: Mad Dog’s impeccably maintained fade
The 2001 Josie and the Pussycats movie was a masterpiece: Josie has the right attitude about LBJ and Vietnam, except I think JFK got us into Vietnam, but then the Gulf of Tonkin was LBJ. I don’t want to google the Vietnam War. look, McNamara is a war criminal
Cheryl’s sheaths: I wish I had the energy to coordinate my bras with the rest of my aesthetic like Josie, in a leopard print, and Cheryl, in red lace. I will say I have recently discovered unlined bras and they have changed me for the better
Tumblr media
do you think Archie + varsity football + theater extracurriculars = Cheryl + student body president + 4.0 GPA + theater extracurriculars?
Serpent with the General-style opthalmic frames and low-rise Chucks intrigues me
Joaquin does Archie so bad!!!!!!! even after he got the fucking tattoo, damn!
Sexy, aesthetic Southside: Joaquin’s eyes are so crystal clear that I don’t think they have a color of their own. he’s wearing the optional grey shirt, so they look grey; if he wore the optional navy shirt (I can’t yet tell a difference in status) they would look blue
oh god, what is that Ghoulie doing at the fucking fence? is he slicing his fingertips for fun? what the fuck, the Ghoulies are so fucking bizarre
Archie calls Joaquin “bro” which means he is fucking serious
we all need to take a moment to ourselves to truly absorb the skull of Dr. Curdle’s son, who is also a corrupt coroner (his name tag says “Dr. Curdle Jr”). of the three most alien skulls so far, this is the most take-abacking (I HAVE seen every episode and my calculations are sound)
he’s really gonna let Dilton (RIP!!!!!) have his arm hang down off the table like that, in this, his final repose? cold
the almost ironic intonation of “signs….of stress….” as he pulls the sheet down is amazingly 50’s horror movie
“Runic, I’d say.”
mmmmmmmmmm Fresh-Aid! I listened to the Jonestown tape in an episode of Last Podcast and was well disturbed!!!!!
you tell me why Jughead is using the camera he used in the pilot instead of like, his phone camera: because Jughead?
because Jughead
Places Bughead are Fucking: coroner’s Office
I want one of these L & L shirts. I would prefer the navy version with the little sleeves
excuse me but one of these Ghoulies has an absolute 2008 sidebang
I’m writing a scene where it’s gay.: “DON’T TOUCH HIS FACE”
Veronica’s flower sweater
BEN BUTTON
Betty’s 70’s-collared Piet Mondrian shirt is super cute, although a white-backed women’s shirt with that thin Forever 21 fabric always fucks you if you have to wear a bra
the actress who plays Evelyn Evernever is named Zoé de Grand Maison and honestly I don’t know who has the better name
DOES KEVIN STILL WANT TO LOSE HIS VIRGINITY BY HALLOWEEN
if homecoming is in September or October, the schedule should be roughly 1) Archie gets out of juvie, followed by 2) Kevin loses his virginity with Moose
Gay.: Kevin’s kiss is VERY good and quite bold! for a hallway, and Moose’s twangy hair is nice
at my high school, everyone just said “rot-see” for ROTC, so surely these hip kids wouldn’t go around saying R-R-O-T-C like that, UNREALISTIC, RIVERDALE
the extremely tall gothy Vixen is even taller than the extremely tall Ghoulie and I would like to take her to homecoming
Summer + Blair = Veronica: “You’re acting like trash, and I don’t want to get a citation.”
what the hell does student body president even do? to the extent I can even recall our student body president, whose name I believe was Lauren, I think she read the afternoon announcements
Ben WAS the kid Kevin ordered that hot dog from during the James Dean closing night! (I’m not double-checking)
Ben WAS the kid Miss Grundy was ~grooming~ when she got merked!
Ben’s mom is such a boring white mom lady that she’s wearing a denim button-down with but a single flower appliqué
YOU KNOW I LOVED THAT BLAIR WITCH TWIG BABY
Officer Henderson WAS the cop who found the “HL” briefcase at the dead Serpent’s hotel room!
I looked into what starting a chapter of the Innocence Project entails for a “couple of minutes.” I assume Veronica is going to go with option one: nonprofit organization, “independently incorporated” with “its own governing board” and fundraising, as I would doubt Riverdale has a local law school or much of a public defender’s office, you know what I’m saying?
What damn high school in America: Veronica is wearing some high-waisted black slacks and quite the polka dot top, which may in fact simply be a bustier. I imagine Principal Weatherbee has battled so many times over the years with Cheryl, who is constantly toeing the line of what a 16-year-old can legally wear, that he has since given up entirely
Jughead crawling over the back of the couch and dangling the totem baby is such a throwback to Jughead crawling over the back of the diner booth and eating the whipped cream cherry that now they are simply teasing me with the grandeur of times gone by, like an Andy Williams Christmas song thrown up on 101.9 KINK
Ethel has on some sort of wicked pin but it’s not in focus!
Betty’s top is very cute, structured
everyone has their own “Yeah, I guess” face at “Dilton Doiley [RIP!!!!!!!] has a secret bunker in the woods?”
Jughead cooly threatens Ethel with quote-unquote telling the police; this of course calls back to Jughead threatening Dilton (RIP!!!!!) in the third episode with Sheriff Keller, but let me ask you this: if Betty & Jughead DID take Ethel to the sheriff, would Sheriff Minetta give a flying fuck? doesn’t he answer directly to Hiram on all things Jughead at this point? could Betty and Jughead POSSIBLY still imagine the cops will heed anything they bring them?
Sheriff Minetta: Jughead Jones now seems to be under the impression that a band of Riverdale High juniors are in an underground RPG cult that has led to a double-suicide
Hiram: Thank God
something about Jughead’s teensy Yes’m head nod is just enough like a chivalrous bow that I have thus taken the time to note how cute it is
Day Two Juvie Coif: visibly succumbing to stress, but with dignity; starting to feather
I don’t know anything about sneakers but I like Mad Dog’s hightops
the cinematography in Archie’s cell is great. I especially like the panning around Archie when he’s not even moving, just listening to Mad Dog talking about, “The moment you set foot in here,” etc.
Mädchen Amick, MÄDCHEN AMICK: FP AND ALICE BOOOOOIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!! missing is the implied scene where Alice called FP to “get over here” so they can “talk to our kids” “together”
50 Shades of Betty: Betty tries hard to communicate with only her left eyebrow, fails
am I imagining a callback to Alice assuming Jughead was the one who railroaded Betty into looking at Jason Blossom? Alice’s stance on Jughead is too exhausting to track
Alice is certainly wearing a sheer floral peasant blouse she would NOT have worn the previous two seasons, SUSPICIOUS
Places Bughead are Not Fucking: Betty’s room
Gay?!: Archie’s incredulous delight at Reggie having helped picked out his RHS-themed sneakers; the Bulldogs are all about that #threestripelife
Veronica was rich: “FRESH KICKS”
Moose is apparently a “straight beast,” if you will
one of these Serpents is holding two playing cards, just chilling and holding two playing cards. I hope his prison name is like SNAKE EYES or THE JOKER
that Ghoulie dude is so striking and elongated, I swear to God he looks like John Travolta in Grease. that undercut, the well-oiled curls on top? can he be Josie’s fall fling?
God bless jingle-jangle: can you DROP OUT of fourth grade? doesn’t the state come for you, what the fuck?
I unironically love Archie’s plan. I fucking love it
“YOU’VE NEVER KNOWN THE EPIC HIGHS AND LOWS”—ARCHIE—YOU’RE A FUCKING SAVANT
I’m looking for other good haircuts in the background. one dude has a solid Wakanda-era Bucky Barnes and there’re slicked up curls aplenty. this juvie is like a candy box
you know this bitch loves a rack focus, especially onto prison wardens
Please protect Betty: “It’s chamomile, Betty. Calm down.”
FREAKISHLY good micromoment of Alice just like wiping away an eyelash or something
aloud, with witnesses, I said “This is like when they first held hands, am I right?” and then Betty said the “kind of reminds me of when we first started dating,” just to prove to you I HAVE seen every episode
Betty calmly checking in with Jughead re: Satan’s Reindeer
he’s most certainly Ethel on stilts (I’m very bad at predicting), but I love the Gargoyle King. he’s just the right mix of she-puts-you-in-the-corner and herky-jerky T-Rex, plus she put paint on him or whatever, in case somebody put a flashlight beam on him? Ethel fucking Muggs or whoever
Tumblr media
love the sexy noir diner lighting and I will die loving it
Jughead eats: a toothpick
Day Three Juvie Coif: back at it, flush with victory; firm and wavy
Cheryl’s a chaos angel from hell: I do wish Cheryl were not so permanently a good guy. I wish she wanted to be Student Body President, all of a sudden, so badly that she was trying to keep Archie in juvie so he could never reclaim his throne, like if she were Scar
Kevin’s magenta polo has a subtle wave print
I hope the RROTC is somehow rotting from the inside, like the Adventure Scouts or Aquaholics
The female gaze: Archie’s cranking out push-ups and Mad Dog is doing tricep dips to warm up, for the game and “other business,” respectively. sometimes I like to do tricep dips too, usually for forty-five seconds while I’m waiting for the microwave to reheat my Kraft Thick N’ Creamy
Archie’s “What the hell are you to him?” is maybe his most astute query into something not being right that doesn’t include his remarkable quickness on the uptake of Jughead at the end of season one (I HAVE seen every episode)
These students are legally children: what the fuck did Mad Dog do that he’s been sentenced to like 25 years in prison? he’s a minor for God’s sake. get on this, Veronica
Places Bughead are Fucking: the fucking woods
catch me hightailing it the fuck out of there when Betty and Jughead do anything that even remotely resembles opening a circular hatch to ANYTHING out in a fucking forest clearing and peering down inside. BYE BITCHES YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN!!!!!
someone in the writer’s room at even only one point said the phrase “like in True Detective” while unspooling this yarn
Fifth period is AP English: I have to take Jughead’s word for it that there’re any bunkers in any Philip K. Dick novel
I am STILL salty that the Swords & Serpents thing IS NOT THE SAME THING as THIS RPG and that it was wholly abandoned. I can’t believe we’re not doing Jughead being sucked into the RPG cult and Betty have to haul him out SIMULTANEOUSLY with her mother being sucked into the postpartum cult and having to haul HER out
“He’s also featured prominently on this copper coin.”
y’all can just buy cyanide like that, in that glass growler? it has a “reliable prescription” sticker on it, WTF?
“Drink from the correct cup and ascend to the kingdom” is definitely ripped from one of the tracks on that Avenged Sevenfold album I bought at Borders freshman year
Jughead doubts it: “OR SOMETHING EVEN MORE INSIDIOUS”
I fucking knew that Adventure Scout was gonna be under that fucking cot but it still scared the crap out of me because The Haunting of Hill House exhausted my reserves
I’m going to come out and say that I’ve never cared for Charmed and I’m not watching the reboot. however I am exceedingly ready for Sabrina
“Princess Etheline”
guys, I found the “Jailhouse Rock” dance charming, especially the implication that the boys started the game up again in the middle to like, show off for the girls. am I getting soft in my old age?
Tumblr media
Josie’s VERY bright blue eyeshadow
Cheryl’s hair: Cheryl had to have been influenced by the trend started pre-2012 in So You Think You Can Dance wherein dancers with very long hair just leave it down
Hiram…..Archie’s in jail. what else do you want? like, he’s IN JUVIE
am I out of my fucking mind or is Hiram wearing a pin that is PSYCHOTICALLY close to being the Hydra hydra?
Archie overtaking the first few guards with those slow-mo crosses until they finally beat him down by their sheer numbers was basically a scene from Spartacus: War of the Damned
Betty’s bug print is cute while being, subconsciously, slightly unsettling; this is true for Betty as a whole
Ethel’s mustard yellow cotton cardigan has some sort of flower print on its back? COOL
I would like to extend a hearty “fuck off with that for fucking me” to whoever blocked out seizing-Ethel whipping her arm up like that with her jacked hand JUST LIKE IN HEREDITARY. FUCK OFF!, and I mean it
“Damn good coffee”: Evelyn has just the sort of niche superpower I wish I could have: to fuck with other people’s social interactions from a casual remove
Jughead is remarkably polite with 911, much calmer than with the desk nurse after Fangs got shot (I HAVE seen every episode)
(Hereditary was much better than Hill House)
Best costume bit: Monica Posh is hot
Every triangle has three corners, every triangle has three sides: Kevin wants that dick SO BADLY that he has JOINED THE ARMY (or whatever)
how did Pop’s lighting manage to glide all the way over to L&L?
Day Four Juvie Coif: slept on but still truckin’
Archie can only be fucking imagining what is about to happen to him (Archie has definitely seen Fight Club, and Jughead had to explain how it was satire)
Certified pedigree: LEGENDARY SQUAD OF PARENTS!!!!!! Hermione’s getting the band back together à la It
Penelope Blossom has gone full Victorian goth in that floor-length lace Chicago black widow number
“At the mere mention of ‘blue lips,’” Jughead wrote, “a shiver frissoned around the room.”
you can tell Alice is in a hippie cult because not only is she wearing crystals but she has stopped wearing eye makeup (I could never be in this sort of cult because if I don’t smear kohl all over them I look like I have tiny eyes; I am sensitive about this)
I’ve seen Brick like thirty times: the reveal of Ben in the window, bathed in the blue glow of Pop’s diner, was like, ~chills~
“You’ll fly too” is of course also It, which, FUCK OFF
NEXT WEEK: I could be very fucking wrong about this but FP has a tattoo on his left pec that may very well be of a jellybean

IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN!!!
The year has come to an end... but what a year it’s been! From the end and the new start of season 2 to 3, from the ridiculous Tumblr purge, from Cheryl-gate, to comic-gate... it’s been a hell of a ride, ladies and gentlemen. But through it all, I’ve ended up meeting and becoming close with such incredible people, not to mention those that have been with me since this madness began. I am legit full of love and adoration for those around me, because I’m who I am today because of the goodness you bring into my life. So! Here’s to another fantastic year, to hoping that you all have wonder and happiness in your life.
Some messages of love to those who have been standout fantastic below!
@yourpaljughead / @thetowcr - V! The V to by Z. My best friend, maid of honour, and a shining fucking star of goodness in this world. You have done... so much for me this year. From scheming behind my back with my fiancé to pull off the most beautiful engagement, to being here as I’ve bought my first house, to just being YOU... honestly, I couldn’t thank you enough for being the light that you are in my life. I know it’s been a challenging year, but I couldn’t be prouder of all the things you’ve done, the steps you’ve taken, the relationships you’ve recognized as toxic, and the growth you’ve made. Next year is going to be insane, and I can’t wait to face it all with you. I’m truly blessed to have you in my life. And... you know. I... I love you. Like. Love you lo-- lol. Wink wink. See you tonight, babe!
@chaosblossomed - Steph, like, holy shit. Can you believe that Choni was finally made real in this year of our lord, twenty gay teen? Basically, we called it, and made it fucking real, by summoning it with the strength of our writing skills. I’m so so happy we met. That you’ve been such a consistent and stable writing partner. That nobody else in this world does Cheryl the justice that you do, because holy crap, how are you not her? And like. I cannot, CANNOT WAIT until I meet you in person at my wedding. You are such a strong and persistent girl, and I can’t help but admire your willingness to bounce back from anything. You’re so much stronger than you give yourself credit for. I adore you to bits, and I hope you know, we’re stuck together for life now.
@stormedchaos / @yourlittlejellybean - Oh my Lor. YOU have been such trouble, young lady! It was such a trip to meet you in person, and holy shit Ireland was so fun! Now here’s to hoping you can make it to Canada come 2k19, because you so need to be with everyone as we herald this madness for another year. I’m so happy you’re back to writing and feeling good, that you’ve purged out some of the awfulness of the year and are moving to a place in your life where you’re happy, free, and where your head is high. You’re a fantastic person, and you need to leave the shit where it belongs in 2018! Because next year is your year, girl, so own it, claim it, and find it yours, with goodness in your heart.
@goodnessfilled - Now, you, you? You’re such a good person Ric! And this year, holy crap, I swear you’ve made such huge progress! You’re now living in a new country, chasing your next educational step in life, and you’re doing it all while writing the most fleshed out, fantastic Archie, and extended family. Do you know how brilliant that is!? I mean I always remind you but still. I’m proud of you and what you’ve accomplished, and think the world of you - I appreciate that I can go to you when I need a person to bounce ideas off of, I appreciate your solidarity within the community, and I love that you are always there to do the moral right thing. You’re gold, Ric.
@dangeress / @wistcrias / @soleheir / etc - This girl is amazing. She manages to always write such rich, fantastic muses and with such grace. I’m always left in awe, Dani, and while we don’t talk as much as we RP, I want you to know that I always find your muses deep and amazing, and I adore writing with you when we do. You always feel unafraid and strong when it comes to the things that you believe in, and feel so fun when you have your emotions at hand. Just know you’re admired, and well thought of, from this court.
@machiavelliani / @ourpyrrhicvictory / @forslaughter / etc - Oso is like. Wow? I don’t know how else to put it, but seeing the black experience so beautifully captured in writing always makes me sit up straight. Oso’s got this beauty to their writing too that’s so inspiring and makes me wanna do shit better, and I hope that slowly but surely, I’m doing that. Can’t wait to do more with your muses with Agatha now that I have my own witchling muse to play, and never forget how brilliant you are my friend!!
@holyxgrail - Now if you wanna rp with a girl who write female brilliance, this is the one! I always feel bad tossing huge ass paragraphs at her, but man does she inspire me, and her muses are always so much fun to play against. Props to you for a year of finding out more of who and how you wanna play, for finding your confidence and your voice, and for knowing that you’re worth playing for both your boys AND your girls. Especially your girls. And thanks for inducting me into a world where I love Barbara Palvin, fuck!
@pinkxperfectionisms - Gonna be real. This girl? The most INCREDIBLE Betty. Like I love playing the good and the bad and the necessary evils, and how you always keep in mind that Betty is fucking 16 years old, man, like she doesn’t have her shit together, none of them do! They’re kids! You’re such a good bean of a soul, and rping with you and all our future OT3 stuff with V gets me all hella hyped, because I feel you’re so into the world building and understanding of maddening timelines on everyones’ ends. You’re gold babe!
@curiouscast - Nowwww, we started RPing because I found you super randomly in the indie rp tag but I’m so so glad I did! Like not only are all your muses so fun, but you’re so willing to try out new shit, you’re willing to really lean into characterizations, and I love that you keep pace with novella with me! Now that you’re also doing Riverdale and SPN, I swear to god we’re always going to have something going on. This new year is gonna be one that we DOMINATE, yo!!!
@evcryhcrd - My darling-est darling! You always always always inspire me with how much love and devotion you pay to Troy. Like it’s so heartening to know that you can be so invested and that we get to write such beautiful things together. I don’t know where the easiest place to find you anymore is (Tumblr? Discord? Where are you!) but know that I always find you dear in my heart. The last year was so fun to write out in development between Troy and Toni, and even with the angst and agony, I can’t wait to see what we cook up for them.
@mademiistakes / @favorpaid - Megs, my sweetie, thank you so much for the last year of goodness between Toni and Joaquin. Like their friendship fuels me! I know that despite your dolls both being dipped at the moment, I am confident you and I can continue RPing Serpent brilliance because that, babes, is what we do. I appreciate you so much, and thank you for being with me through the ups and the downs.
@heavenlysigh - Girl, I always love writing with you. Toni and Hara have seen so much growth this year, and I feel at the heart of it, that you always wake up this poetry in my writing. I adore it, and their complicated relationship and friendship. It really makes me feel emboldened when I see them together because it feels like such a lovely example of female friendship between the pair of them, in all its loveliness and ugliness. Let’s see all the new shit they stir up this year.
@slayvicr - Sam! Honestly we’re only now starting to get to know each other, but I love how supportive and wonderful you’ve been right out the gate. You’re so lovely when we talk and I can’t wait to see you at my wedding, because I know that you’re a wonderful person and that you’ll be a great person to be there during one of my happiest days. I can’t wait to write with you, either with Buffy or Joaquin or whoever you want to play! A new year, and more stuff for us!
@hoodjunior / @ladyreckoning - Hello JJ you wild warrior woman! Honestly, didn’t expect to get to know you well, and happy that we are talking. You have been so helpful about the things that you’ve helped me with along the way, from dumb Tumblr things, to helping me craft thoughtful statements. You’re a wonderful person who puts up with far too much, and while this year was not kind, I do hope that the next one will be.
@sunshinebarbiiie / @loyalserpvnt - You’re such a fucking sweetheart. Honestly, and writing with both Serena and SP has been a dream. I can’t wait to roll out all the things we’ve plotted between Toni and SP, and developing that rich friendship between Serena and Toni. The things that Serena and Vanessa should have been in the show, had the show been kind to us! Really, you’re fun to write with, and I love having you around.
@ragingicarus - Cries, I miss you load and loads and loads, you sweet human bean! I really want you to know that you’re treasured and loved and that writing Toni and John has been so much fun. I can’t wait to jump back in it with you, and want you to know that whenever you’re ready, I’m so so so ready! Missing you darling! And here’s to a new year full of fabulousness!!
@bubblegumxveil - J, my J~ you’re always out here with a cheerful word and a happiness to all that you do. Even when things are shit you always manage to have such a mature outlook, and I appreciate the hell out of that in you. Thank you for always thinking of me this year, and I hope you know that you’re really great and I appreciate the crap out of you. I hope next year is brilliant for you and you find your happiness the way you hope to find it!
@rxvenhairedprincess - To LA, my princess. I’m really proud of you this year... and thankful, because I know that I can be really blunt, but you’ve taken everything in stride. You’ve seen happiness and are turning so much into your happiness into a day to day thing. It makes me happy and heartened to see that growth in the last year and am really genuinely happy to have you here as apart of my little crew. You’re a good egg LA! Please always keep that in mind.
@swcctserpent / @mcntlethemagnificent / @fairriverdale - Chace! We missed each other in Sydney, but no matter, it does nothing to dull the brilliance in you. Thank you for being so great with both your muses and your own self, in helping give me some perspective when I’m a bit unhappy or unsure about what I want to write, thank you for being around, and thanks for being apart of the Riverdale community. I hope next year is a good one for you!
@snakeblccded - Your Charles is so much fun! And I’m happy you picked him up - really really, I’m happy to have him around and to write out all the good and uncertainty within his life out there on the edges. It’s an amazing thing to find someone who’s able to take what few details that are out there and turn that into writing gold, so really, that’s so cool of you. Can’t wait to see what we see in the new year together!
@wlftempr / @blackhearttm - Couldn’t forget you! I love having all your muses around, from the fatherliness of Alex, to... well, Toni and Spencer being wild. I’m sorry I haven’t been around lately because of vacation, but know that I love writing with you and appreciate you. Like I said on that call we had, I hope that you ended this year in a position where you feel happy and appreciated in your life, because you deserve that. I can’t wait to write with you more too! To a new year!
@uncivilizes - Such a random person to have found in the indie rp tag but wow am I glad! You write John like... holy shit amazing, and even though we haven’t done a ton of writing yet, you really perfectly capture his essence, and I can’t wait to do more over the coming year. I wanted to make sure you knew I appreciated and saw that shit in you!
