who's ur fav mej character..
Tumblr media
Thanks for the question anon, but basically I like pretty much all of his characters but mains ones are like;
-Kevin Cozner (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), because of his character I basically started knowing of mej and on the show he is so perfect to Raymond and their relationship and their backstory is really interesting to me. Also in the later season when he grew that beard…
-Shawn (The Good Place), he’s just really funny and says the most randomness things. But I like thinking about how his character would be if he went through his own existential crisis. And I like his grainy evil voice.
-Sparks Nevada (The Theilling Adventure Hour), He’s a cowboy… in space. Basically all I’ve ever wanted. Also I like his country accent.
-Jim Dunnigan (Suit Up), A show I had to buy on YouTube but nevertheless basically he’s a kind of an insecure smart-ash deck, gets the job done and does whatever. I don’t know why I like it but he’s just kind of an everyday dude.
———
Honourable mentions;
-Richard Spier (The Baby-Sitters Club)
-Kim Kil Whan (Adventure Time)
-Keenan (The Kings of Summer)
(Basically all characters where he plays a lawyer a teacher an accountant or dad,(so all of them))

A growing number of states are opening taxpayer-funded health insurance programs to immigrants, including those living in the U.S. without authorization, even as Republicans assail President Joe Biden over a dramatic increase in illegal crossings of the southern border. Eleven states and Washington, D.C., together provide full health insurance coverage to more than 1 million low-income immigrants regardless of their legal status, according to state data compiled by KFF Health News. Most aren’t authorized to live in the U.S., state officials say. Enrollment in these programs could nearly double by 2025 as at least seven states initiate or expand coverage. In January, Republican-controlled Utah will start covering children regardless of immigration status, while New York and California will widen eligibility to cover more adults. “These are kids, and we have a heart,” said Utah state Rep. Jim Dunnigan, a Republican who initially opposed his state’s plan to cover children lacking legal status but relented after compromises including a cap on enrollment.
Having a heart is a tall ask for evangelical christians

Here are some historical facts about Alice Allison Dunnigan, an American journalist, civil rights activist, and author.
Born on April 27, 1906.
After graduating high school, completed a teaching course at Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute.
Taught Kentucky History in the Todd County School System, which was segregated then.
From 1947 to 1961, served as chief of the Washington Bureau of the Associated Negro Press.
First African American female correspondent to receive White House credentials.
First Black female member of the Senate and House of Representatives press galleries.
Wrote an autobiography entitled "Alice A. Dunnigan: A Black Woman's Experience."
An official Kentucky Historical Society marker commemorates her.
Chronicled the decline of Jim Crow during the 1940s and 1950s, which influenced her to become a civil rights activist.
She was inducted into the Kentucky Hall of Fame in 1982.
Her love for writing began when she was 13. Penning one-sentence pieces for the Owensboro Enterprise changed her life forever. Her dream was to experience the world through the life of a newspaper reporter, and she accomplished her goal by becoming the first African American female White House correspondent.
Her journey was not an easy one. Dunnigan reported on Congressional hearings where Blacks were referred to as "niggers," were barred from covering a speech by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in a Whites-only theater, and were not allowed to sit with the press to cover Senator Robert A. Taft's funeral. She covered the event from a seat in the servant's section. Dunnigan persevered, kept writing, and was eventually known for her straight-shooting reporting style. Politicians routinely avoided answering her difficult questions, which often involved race issues.

It Hurts So Much
So much suffering in our world. Yesterday’s headlines bore more bad news. I read in Dr. Jim Denison’s daily article that the beloved Senior Pastor of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Bryan Dunnigan, age 44, passed away in his sleep due to natural causes. He leaves behind his wife and three children. Many are grieving deeply today. I also read about the massive manhunt for the gunman…

Breakthroughs in Board Wargaming
Tumblr media
By Blaine Lee Pardoe
Having been a player and author in the gaming industry for well over three decades, I have seen numerous innovations that have emerged in wargaming.  I make no claim that these are the most important breakthroughs, but merely some that have had a lasting impact on the games that we all love and play.
The following list of breakthroughs in board wargaming is far from all-encompassing but includes advances I have taken note of over the years. Also, I have made my best-effort to attribute the innovators; but comprehensive histories of games simply are few and far between, which means that there may be mistakes. A lot of small game companies have come and gone, especially in the early years, making verification of some of the material challenging.
As such, here is my suggested list:
NATO symbols for counters
Tumblr media
Avalon Hill’s Tactics/Tactics II was the first wargame that introduced the NATO symbols for unit designations.  The NATO symbol set was a ground-breaking innovation that many publishers still utilize today.  It introduced military symbols to a primarily civilian audience. Once understood, it provides players the ability to identify unit types across a variety of games. Despite being a military iconography, they became widely accepted and a mainstay in civilian gaming even now, something many of us take for granted.
Combat Results Table (CRT)
Prior to Combat Results Tables, combat tended to be resolved in the same manner as Risk – with simple dice-off resolutions.  Dicing off rarely took into account the odds of the battle and, if they did, they abstracted them to the point of meaninglessness.  We have all experienced attacking in Risk with 20 armies against three and losing.
CRT’s changed wargaming in that they forced players to look at overall odds in terms of attack and defense to determine combat resolution. Resolutions themselves could be varied depending on the game and the results. Always the trendsetter, Avalon Hill’s Tactics/Tactics II was the first published wargame that introduced this concept and altered wargame design and development from that point on.
Hexagon maps
Tumblr media
Hexes have long been a mainstay of wargaming. Rand Corporation began using hexes on maps for its games in the late 1950s, but these were not commercial products. Most early games used squares for terrain/movement. Hexagons changed everything. There are a number of contenders as to the first published game that utilized these, but the most widely accepted innovator in this category was Avalon Hill’s 1961 Chancellorsville game.  Once Chancellorsville became a product, almost every other game designer defaulted to the use of hexes on their game maps.
Cards as part of combat resolution
Tumblr media
Cards really first surfaced in board gaming with Risk (1957).  The cards were not a factor of combat but rather the means of generating reinforcements.  There was one game that used cards that impacted combat resolution, and that was the release of Kriegspiel by Avalon Hill in 1971.  While not a wildly successful game, the tactical cards used added a new dimension to gameplay. Avalon Hill’s 1776 used a card tactics system, leading to other board games integrating cards into combat in the years that followed.
Geomorphic Maps
Tumblr media
The introduction of geomorphic maps, or maps that can be reconfigured and used for a variety of scenarios, was a stunning innovation at the time.  It allowed game developers to use a relatively small set of maps to create multiple scenarios, without having to create unique layouts.  Jim Dunnigan’s Avalon Hill release of Panzerblitz in 1970 broke this ground.  Games like Advanced Squad Leader have amped up this concept to a whole new level of variety and variance.
Quad Games
Tumblr media
In 1975, SPI introduced a unique innovation in the industry with Napoleon At War Quad Game – the quad-game concept.  Quad games had a standard set of rules, four unique maps, rules for the individual games (there were four in a pack – hence the ‘quad’), and counters for the four games.  The games were not huge in scale but designed to be highly playable with players only having to learn one set of core rules and integrating minor modifications to those rules for specific battles.
On the surface, this may not seem like much of an innovation – but it ushered in a new era of game series for the wargaming industry. Wargaming companies could create a single set of core rules for a series of games. It reduced development time and costs since the companies could focus on the maps, counters, and variant rules for that particular game. Companies that have quad-games in their series can trace their origins to SPI for this innovation.
Games produced as part of a magazine
Tumblr media
Strategy & Tactics, initially produced by SPI, was a game-changer (pun intended) in the wargaming industry. Starting in 1968 with issue 18, a game was provided as part of a historical magazine. These games were of almost equal quality to those produced by SPI at the time, sans the box and counter system. Some would go on to be published in box form.
With Strategy & Tactics, you got history articles about a subject and could then simulate it.  The price was reasonable, allowing for a lot of gamers to subscribe. Many gamers got their initial fix on gaming with a copy of Strategy & Tactics, and it and a number of other companies leverage the same model today.
Dots in Hexes to Determine Line of Sight
Tumblr media
Line of sight on hexagon-based wargames was always a bit of a challenge.  Given hex sizes and the geographic features, it was sometimes a challenge to determine whether line of sight/line of fire was blocked. It often led to debates/arguments, some of which required involving the game designers.
Game designer John Hill tackled this issue head-on with the Avalon Hill 1977 release of Squad Leader.  To resolve these conflicts, he placed a tiny dot in the center of the hexagon to be used to draw the line of sight.  If anything touched the line, it was considered blocked.  While this does not seem like a stunning innovation, many game companies have leveraged this idea over the years, and it has often brought an end to game table debates before they started.
Progressive Wargame Rules
Tumblr media
Starting in the 1970’s, wargames started to explore the gap between realism and playability by becoming more complex. In doing so, it often became an onerous task to attempt to read, digest, and process increasingly thicker rulebooks.
Avalon Hill broke new ground in 1975 with their Tobruk: Tank Battles in North Africa by introducing a progressive set of rules. Players learned the core mechanics of the game and played a scenario that used those rules. They then would read more rules, learn more gameplay features, then play that scenario… and so on. Each scenario built off of the other, introducing more game mechanics until the players were prepared to play utilizing all of the game rules.
This teaching concept for game play allowed companies to introduce more complicated games in an easier to process format.
The Monster Game
Tumblr media
Attempting to qualify what constitutes a monster game can be challenging.  Generally, it is a game that has a massive map and counter set and cannot be played in a signal session. Essentially, monster games are big, expensive, and require a significant commitment of time to play.  GDW (Game Designers’ Workshop) broke new ground in 1973 with Drang nach Osten!  It covered the eastern front of WWII and was staggering in terms of scale, with five 21”x27” maps, 1700+ counters, and a playing time that was easily well over 200 hours.
Other publishers hopped onto the bandwagon with SPI releasing War in the East a year later.  Other monsters followed, including Terrible Swift Sword (Gettysburg), War in the Pacific, Campaign for North Africa, GDW’s Europa series, and Avalon Hill’s magnum opus, The Longest Day.  While the price of these monster games has increased over the years, they are still a significant niche in the wargaming marketplace.
The Monster Game Runner Up – The Rules Monster
Tumblr media
Not all game systems can be considered monsters because of the time to play them or their sheer bulk but by the staggering ruleset.  The winner in this category is Advanced Squad Leader by Avalon Hill and Multiman Publishing.  Introduced in 1985, this game was on the same tactical scale as the original squad leader – but with a staggeringly thick three-inch binder’s worth of rules.  With supplemental releases added in, it is over 1,000 pages of rules. Advanced Squad Leader was not just a game, it was a commitment.  The game has sold well over a million copies and remains in print in several forms even today.
So there you have it – my personal list of early breakthroughs – some big, some small, but all with some sort of impact on the games we enjoy playing.

Darren Criss (“The Assassination of Gianni Versace”), Aidy Bryant (“Saturday Night Live”) and Kenan Thompson (“SNL”) earned their first Emmy nominations for acting this year, but these aren’t their first nominations overall. All three of them recently contended for songwriting. And they’re far from the only ones who have crossed the threshold between music and other fields at the Emmys. Far from it.
Criss rose to fame as an actor on “Glee” before earning his first acting nomination, Best Movie/Mini Actor for playing killer Andrew Cunanan in the limited series “The Assassination of Gianni Versace.” But “Glee” is what brought him his very first Emmy recognition. He earned a nom for Best Music and Lyrics in 2015 for writing the song “This Time” from the series finale episode “Dreams Come True.” But he lost that prize to Kyle Dunnigan and Jim Roach, who wrote “Girl You Don’t Need Makeup” for “Inside Amy Schumer.”

The Wreck of the BSM Pandora (Joe Barney cover for Ares 2, SPI, May 1980, featuring game by James Dunnigan with Redmond A Simonsen and David J Ritchie)  “Wreck” was published first, with obvious inspiration from Alien, followed by the prequel “Voyage” in issue 6 which had Star Trek-like away teams visiting different planets to explore.  Pandora was a Biological Survey Mission ship specially equipped to transport live specimens, but the ship name on the cover is mislabeled “BMS”.

Brother John Cosgrove Honored
Tumblr media
Part of the annual Delta Mu Alumni Meeting on Sunday, September 22, 2019, consisted of the ACB honoring Brother John Dennis Cosgrove for lifelong service and dedication to the Delta Sigma Phi chapter at LMU. He was given a plaque honoring him, by ACB President, Scott Cunningham.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of John’s accomplishments and highlights, as presented during the meeting by Brother John Moutes ‘66 (seen above):
Delta Mu Charter Member, October 19, 1958
Chapter President, 1960-61, lead 58 brothers and was ably supported by Darryl Bartolotti (VP), Chuck Preston (Treasurer), Sam La Sala (Secretary) and Tim Shea (Social Chair).
John would also serve as Chair of Loyola's Greek Week that featured a nationally popular folk group called the "Limeliters."  The chapter took on the responsibility for ensuring the financial success of the concert.  John spent most of his time during the concert under the stage as a sound engineer.
At the conclusion of Greek Week, there was a giant party at the house where John met an attractive sorority coed in Theta Iota Pi from Immaculate Heart College, Shirley McLing, who would later become Mrs. John Cosgrove.
Throughout his presidency, John credits his two "rocks" George Miller and Tim Shea (both civil engineering majors) for their dependability and support.
Under John's leadership, the chapter won Loyola's "Spring Sing" that year teamed with St. Vincent's College of Nursing, receiving the only curtain call of the evening.
John would later serve in Delta Mu ACB in the early 1990s and again when the chapter was re-launched in 2013.
Perhaps John's most enduring legacy on behalf of the chapter was an assignment that he and fellow brother Tim Shea undertook in the spring of 1959 when they found the fraternity house at 6819 Pacific Avenue. Time permitting, I will read a few excerpts from the chapter's history -- "The First 90 Years".
"As some of you know we had a fraternity house at a beach-front address that filled a vital need for Delta Sigma Phi -- a home for our social and cultural events and for a number of our brothers starting in 1959. It was a house unlike what any other fraternity had at LMU. Lest the history is lost with time we are pleased to share some of it and a few stories of early life at this place. "To begin, in a moment of bravado brothers Cosgrove and Shea volunteered to find some sort of residence for the fraternity, and after looking over the sorry offerings of apartments around Westchester we happened upon a boarded-up former beach club – founded in 1931 by Fritz Burns as the Del Rey Swim Club. "We used nefarious means to enter the boarded up place, and when inside we found a near-derelict two-story structure with an upstairs bar on the street side, a covered dance floor surrounded with windows overlooking the beach on the backside, a sorry looking kitchen with a dining hall on the right front, four or five rooms that could accommodate brothers, and two restrooms with showers.  Most of the windows were broken, but as you can see from the photo it was a sturdy place perfect for our needs. "We soon learned that the property belonged to the Fritz Burns Foundation, and was on a perfect stretch of beach.  Mr. Burns was the major developer of Westchester and a long-time benefactor of Loyola Marymount University.  His Foundation was contacted by two of our more "refined" brothers, Joe Dunnigan (LMU-1960) and Bill Schauppner (LMU-1958), and they handled the delicate negotiations on behalf of the fraternity.  The Foundation was quickly convinced that our tenancy would be beneficial for them.  Brother Bob Martini (LMU-1960) then stepped in to assure the Foundation that we were creditworthy and well behaved.  [Ed. Note: an awesome undertaking.] "We then set to work to make the place habitable with Cosgrove on electrical engineering and the civil engineers on the toilets, we soon realized that the City Inspector would have to approve our work.   Much to our relief, we learned the City Inspector for our neighborhood was brother Jim Mitsch’s (LMU-1960) father, a patient man as I recall.  Somehow we got the approvals needed and the first residents moved in that fall."
Above text written by John Cosgrove and Tim Shea fore "The First 90 Years."
Tumblr media
Brother and close friend of John’s, Jim Ford ‘60 (above) spoke about John. He was John’s roommate at the Chapter House. Brother Jim related how Brother John was always the one to enthusiastically rouse the members to action whenever he came up with a plan of action.
Tumblr media
Another stalwart friend, Brother George Miller (above, left), also got up to pay tribute to Brother John. He spoke about commuting to Loyola University (as it was known back then) with John, from Glendale, as sophomores and juniors. He recounted how John had to face the Dean several times for the actions of the Chapter, while he was it’s President - the reasons why, he would not get into at this time, lol.
Tumblr media
On the phone (held up by Brother John Moutes in the above photo), was another close friend of John’s, Brother Tim Shea. Brother Shea spoke about how John taught him how much more you can do as part of a team, than as an individual, and how this lesson guided and helped him throughout his career and adult life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brother John was presented with the ACB Plaque of Recognition, by Scott Cunningham, the went on to say a few wonderful words.
Congratulations, again, to Brother John Cosgrove (and well deserved)!

Utah lawmakers are close to passing legislation penalizing renters for lying about owning an emotional support animal, according to reports. The lawmakers say the legislation is for the benefit of both landlords and people with legitimate disabilities, but disability groups say the legislation could be intimidating to people who legitimately need an emotional-support animal in their residence. The Utah House has passed the bill to make it a misdemeanor to falsely claim to a landlord that a tenant has an emotional-support animal; it has received favorable recommendation in the Utah Senate. The bill, HB43, was proposed by Rep. Jim Dunnigan, R-Taylorsville, and makes a clear distinction between service animals and emotional-support animals. According to Dunnigan, there is no penalty under the current law for a tenant falsely claiming to a landlord that he or she has an emotional-support animal, and this bill changes that. “It’s becoming a problem, I’ve heard a lot from service-animal owners that the people with emotional-support animals are kind of damaging their brand, because more and more people are saying, ‘I qualify for an emotional-support animal, you need to rent housing to me,’ when they do not,” Dunnigan told KSL.com. The bill’s primary function would be to impose criminal penalties on people who seek housing and lie about having a medical need for an emotional-support animal. Under current state law, people who lie about having a “service animal” can be charged with a class B misdemeanor, but no such penalty exists for “emotional-support animals.” #commercialrealestate #1031exchanges #1031exchanges #apartment #multifamilyrealestate #apartments #propertymanagement #bellproperties http://BPropMgmt.com https://www.instagram.com/p/BuWt-BPDVYA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=145g9rnzxr8ty

Wargame Wednesday: Gnome Games and Wargames
This post is a deep dive into Gnome themed wargame products and I was surprised how much is currently available.
The biggest surprise came while conducting non-gnome related research in the S&T Magazine Library . I found an article previewing S&T Magazine #42 (Gnome – Orc War) but the magazine that went to print had nothing to with gnomes.  When I inquired, the preview article was removed and I never received a response.  You have to hand it to Jim Dunnigan, for some reason The Orcs Are Dead edition was cancelled but he quickly pivoted to produce a well received game on a totally different subject.  S&T even used the gnome cover art as the design for the new magazine cover while the original Gnome and Orc War concept has been long forgotten…….
Gnome Miniatures
Last week’s post featured Splintered Light Miniatures Gnome Army set and the Gnome Wars, miniatures rule set and figures.  Initially, my online searches returned an abundance of garden gnomes but I managed to dig up quite a few offerings.  By the way, I’m not a garden gnome fan but some of these will be interesting to CH blog readers.
Old School Miniatures alpine gnomes taking a well deserved break.
This week I found the Alpine Gnomes series from Old School Miniatures.  It’s worth clicking on the Old School link just to check out the alpine dwarves, featuring dwarf ski troops (I kid you not), some equipped with muskets along with their St. Bernard mascot.  Old School gnomes have less of a traditional garden gnome influence as Splintered Light’s offering and the alpine concept is readily apparent in their dress.  The gnome miniatures are 15mm, so best used with 28mm figures from taller races.
Here is a link to their “studio” gnome army.  I’m close to ordering a few units, especially the fox riders and will do so after painting my current set. Expect to see more posts about Old School in the future, especially if they keep producing conceptually brilliant figure ranges.
This post on the First Edition of Warhammer is interesting. Gnomes were represented, albeit just one page in the rule book and a few units (scroll down after clicking the link).  The 1st Edition Warhammer gnomes HATE goblins and “are not natural horsemen”.  Makes sense to me.  According to this message board, gnomes were part of the Warhammer universe at least up to the 3rd Edition.
Individual gnome figures here and a range of what I’ll say are manga influenced gnomes are available here while Reaper Miniatures has a sizable range.
Board games on the next page.
Gnome Board Games
Entering “gnome” in the search box at Boardgamegeek reveals an extensive list of games, some long forgotten such as the Parker Brothers Gnomes game which was released after a popular book on gnomes from that time.  Not surprisingly, the list does not include many hard core gnome war games beyond the Gnome Wars already mentioned but Gnome Tribes looks interesting  Gnomeland is probably a good family game and there are many card games featured such as The Gnomes of Zvandor.
  Gnomes Online and Computer
Goblins vs Gnomes is an online, card based expansion game of Heathstone: Heroes of Warcraft.  Haven’t played but is a game with a free play version though buying card packs and other extras definitely help the player get ahead….
Finally, Gnomoria looks like a Minecraft type game, available on Steam.
Next week I’ll dive into vάνοςthropology (pronounced nánosthropology; the scientific study of gnomes, gnome behavior and societies both past and present), allowing me more time to research the battle mentioned last week between gnomes and orc invaders.
For Bulge fans an update of the scenario with a couple of screen shots.
