When Harry Blaise Theo and the other first year Slytherin boys got to their dorm room Draco started to make fun of Harry because, "he's stuck up, loves being the main character and probably wanted to be in the 'protagonist' house" (aka projecting his own insecurities onto Harry) before Blaise stands up for him and tells Draco to shove off, as well as usually quiet Theo piping up to say that Draco doesn't have to "impress or stand up for his father" here, no one was going to judge him. but when Draco only huffed and slunk away to the furthest bed Theo took the bed next to Harry and cross from Goyle as Blaise took the other bed next to Harry for the night (soon to change the the vey next morning) and they both independently decided to protect Harry from any other Slytherins who wanted to give him trouble for being 'the chosen one'.

Draco Crabbe and Goyle grew up together as their fathers were friends, colleagues, and fellow death eaters. Draco being the smartest and 'purest' blood as well as the richest of them became the default leader of their little group Crabbe and Goyle acting more as henchmen than real friends. this dynamic persisted into their first few years at hogwarts.

Hermione and Amber met briefly on the train before reuniting at the feast bonding over being the only muggle born Gryffindoors in their year other than Dean and solidified their friendship when Lavender and Pravati did not seem to like Hermione's loud know it all personally and did not want to sleep near her for fear she would keep them up talking their ears off. Amber told them off and volunteered to sleep next to her for good measure.

Kellah Seamus and Dean shared a train compartment and a boat and subsequently became fast friends. Kellah and Seamus both being half bloods and more than happy to explain wizerding world things to a nervous muggle born Dean, they stayed friends sticking together and protecting each other through out their years at hogwarts.

Lavender Pravati and Pravati's twin Padma shared a compartment on the train and then a boat across the lake. they were all very surprised when Padma was sorted into Ravenclaw and the her twin into Gryffindoor as twins are rarely separated into different houses but Lavender helped her adjust by comforting Pravati as they bonded over dinner eventually deciding to choose beds next to each other and become friends.

Theo and Draco grew up together because both their parents were death eaters and colleagues but the never spent as much time together as Crabbe Goyle and Draco did because Theo was much more of an introvert than the others were and tended to fall behind, get distracted easily or keep to himself in general ,though Draco treated Theo better and more like an intelligent person compared to treating Crabbe and Goyle like big morons. after the spat in the dorm on the first night at school Draco has started to ignore Theo despite his best efforts to talk to Draco.

Ron and Harry first met when they shared a train compartment but Ron stopped talking to him when Harry got sorted in to Slytherin. They made up soon though when after Neville got hurt falling off his broom. he accidentally left his rememberall behind after the fall and Draco picked it up yelling to the surrounding Slytherins about it, making fun of Neville, and flying up with the rememberall with the intent to hide it out of his reach and Harry stole it back meaning to return it to Neville and consequently impressing the first years present specifically Ron and the other Gryffindoors boys.

Ron and Hermione become friends when after her overhearing him call her a bossy know-it-all she hides in the bathroom for the rest of the day, meanwhile in the great hall the staff and students are told that there is a troll is in the dungeon. Ron then remembers hearing about Hermione in the bathroom and decides to split off from the main group and head to the girls bathroom after he accidentally locks the troll in the bathroom with Hermione, he goes back and breaks back into the bathroom. His attempt at fighting the troll doesn't go exceptionally well and they both get pretty beaten up (especially Hermione) but as luck would have it the teachers arrive in time to save both of them. Ron's stops being as much of a jerk to Hermione after this point.

Harry and Hermione become friends when during Harry's first Quidditch game of the year (and his first ever) ron notices some thing causing Harry's broomstick to buck and try to throw him off. At the same time she notices Snape muttering something to himself while not breaking eye contact with Harry, and while they they aren't very good friends at this point she's not about to sit around when she could stop someone getting hurt, so she sneaks into the Slytherin bleachers and sets Snape's robe on fire to break his eye contact and saves Harry. He then thanks her and tells her that he owes her one. the trio are never as close as they would be in the original story here but they end up hanging out a little bit more often after this.

Not really using Tumblr anymore and also no one reads these, but I like doing them, so here are my November and December reads

The bad:

Bloom by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau: not bad so much as it’s boring. Did not care about any of the characters and tbh couldn’t tell you a thing that happened.

The fine: If This Gets Out by Cale Dietrich and Sophie Gonzalez: look there’s a lot of really great material in this book but because it only focuses on 2 of the 4 members of this boy band we miss out on like half of the stuff brought up in this book. Also I’d love it if we learned to correctly describe a book because they way people talked about it I genuinely thought it’d be a cute romance between 2 members of said boy band and like...one of the characters has a drug-induced psychotic break so it is very much not a cute romance.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn: I finally watched Bridgerton so my sister shoved this into my hands and I knocked it out in like a day. Penelope’s storyline was Colin realizing there was more to her because she’s smarter and funnier than she lets on and Penelope’s storyline was realizing there was more to Colin because he...has...anger issues? Idk. There was a scene where I thought he was gonna hit her but it didn’t happen thankfully. Anyway, Kinda toxic.

Secret Service by Tal Bauer: OK FINE. This is the author of those other two terrible romances I read. This one was by far the best of the three I’ve read. Anyway it’s basically a very good season of Scandal (forbidden gay romance between the president and his head of Secret Service detail! Political intrigue! Betrayal!) Also, it didn’t end in a throuple and i was shocked and upset.

The good/great:

The Secret Life of Albert Entwhistle by Matt Cain: checks all my boxes - unlikely friendships. Coming of age but it’s an older person. Reconnecting with people from your past. Healing the trauma of your childhood. Very, very sweet.

The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec: made me want to delve deeper into Norse mythology. Like Circe by Madeline Miller, if Circe was more plot heavy.

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames: this is kind of a dad book but it’s fun. Set in a fantasy world where mercenary bands are treated similarly to how we treat rock stars. It’s a classing “getting the band back together” storyline with more character development I thought we’d get. Some characters are more fully realized than others and it definitely has flaws but it was still extremely entertaining.

Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White: an extremely disturbing YA post apocalyptic about a trans boy who escapes a religious ecoterrorist cult. Lots of body horror and Religious Trauma which I think is done really well in the narration. Also love that he finds shelter with a group of teens from the city’s LGBTQ shelter and there’s like...a lot of disagreements and fighting between them which I feel like you never see.

The Honeys by Ryan La Sala: like Jennifer’s Body meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers meets Heathers (just a little) meets But I’m a Cheerleader (just a little). Surreal and twisty and very, very fun. I read this in an afternoon and had a great time. It’s about a kid whose twin sister escapes from the fancy summer camp she’s been attending without him and breaks into his room in an attempt to kill him and ends up dying herself, and he wants to investigate.

HP NEW GEN Parental Masterlist

Sooooo, I’m beginning to realize seeing the same style headcanons constantly might get a bit boring for some after a while, so I’ve decided to branch out and provide you with something new and exciting (although I will still be posting those headcanons).

When reading the headcanons about my OCs, some of you may wonder who these kid’s parents are. While I give context in the posts themselves, I thought it would be a fun idea to create a masterlist of who’s the child of who, just so I can say this blog has some variety to it.

This list will only include the parents of my OCs, as everyone already knows who the canon character’s parents are anyway. Also, the pairings on this list are - for the most part - very random. In addition, I’ve made the executive decision to cross this universe over with that of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda” because there’s no way she would not have gone to Hogwarts with the Potter-Gen crew. All this to say, this list might get a little crazy. You have been warned.

One more thing, and this one’s pretty straightforward: This post is going to be rather long, as I’m still trying to find a happy medium between short little headcanons and thirty page essays content wise. I apologize in advance.

"My stomach's in knots. Is yours in knots?"

Kevin rolled his eyes. "Isn't everyone's? Now, please, let me concentrate."

Stephen shrugged, but his nerves were a jumbled mess. He didn't get how Kevin could be so calm at a time like this. "You think that'll be enough? Loads of potions?" His eyes dropped down to the book in his lap. He'd checked it out from the library with only Pince's permission—these days, any student trying to get into the Restricted Section had to have the approval of Snape or of one of the Carrows, but they didn't know that Pince was playing favorites in this dangerous time. Lucky for the Ravenclaws that she'd always favored her House above the rest.

But the book on ancient curses and jinxes and hexes would only be of help if Stephen could wrap his head around some of them. Most of them didn't make a whole lot of sense, whilst others had incantations that looked impossible to pronounce.

"How many are you making?" Stephen asked.

"As much as I can with the few materials I have," Kevin informed him. He sighed as he stirred his cauldron. "Lucky for us that Hagrid's been able to grow as much as he can and catch as much as he can. And it's a good thing that Snape's not been poking around the greenhouses too much."

"Yeah…" Stephen swallowed the lump in his throat.

"What is it?"

"No, nothing. Just go back to brewing."

Kevin huffed and flicked his wand, bewitching his stirrer to keep moving without him. Then he crossed the empty dormitory until he sat on Stephen's bed with him. "There. It's still brewing. Now, tell me what's on your mind."

"You were the one who just asked me to leave you alone!" Stephen pointed out.

The smaller boy rolled his eyes a second time and reached up and patted Stephen's head. "Well, now I can't focus because you can't be left alone." His lips finally curved upward into a tiny smile. "Hey, honest?"

"Honest," Stephen said. It was a game they'd come up with in first year. They had met and gotten along with the other three eagle boys at first, but one night just the two of them had begun this game. Kevin had said the same thing—"Hey, honest?"—and Stephen had agreed, and then the two of them exchanged one truth each. It was a nice game that had grown into something more private after the end of fourth year when a shaken Kevin, terrified of what was to come in their future what with the Dark Lord's return, confessed that he loved Stephen as more than a brother or best friend. The game had grown into a serious joke since then.

"I'm so scared that it's all I can do to steady my hand right now," Kevin breathed.

Stephen nodded. "I don't think we'll all make it out alive."

Kevin took a shaky breath and laughed darkly. "Yeah, yeah… I can't help but agree there."

The larger boy grimaced and pulled his boyfriend into his arms. Though he couldn't see it before, he could definitely feel Kevin trembling now. "Hey," Stephen said, finding his voice somehow, "c'mon. We've gotta keep it together. Those potions aren't all offensive—some of them are for our friends." He patted Kevin's cheek and locked eyes with him. "Our friends—Terry, Tony, and Mike, and Padma and Morag—they've joined the reconstituted D.A. They're in the crosshairs of the Carrows. They need all the support they can get."

"You forgot Mandy," Kevin told him.

"What?"

"Mandy. She couldn't stand being at dinner the other night while the others starved on Aberforth's cooking only, so she took food for them. Alecto snatched her by her hair and used the Cruciatus Curse on her. Mandy sought refuge last night. Or so Lisa told me. I left dinner early," the smaller boy finished.

Stephen sighed. "Great. I can't believe I left you and her and Lisa and Su at the table alone."

"No, it's good—Mandy's better off with the D.A. anyway. And you had to get that book from Pince when Snape wasn't looking." Kevin kissed his forehead. "Trust me, you did a load of good."

"It doesn't exactly feel like it," Stephen confessed.

"Maybe it doesn't because we're not officially part of Dumbledore's Army. But we're their accomplices." He smiled mischievously, the mirth reaching his eyes and moving the line of his short, curly, reddish–brown hair. "Doesn't it feel good, to be breaking someone's rules for once?"

Finally, a wet chuckle escaped Stephen, and he hugged Kevin to him again. "Maybe."

"Good. Now, you take some notes to slip to Tony later, and I'll finish up some more potions."

"All right. But you should sleep soon."

Kevin slipped from his arms and padded, stocking-footed, back to his spot on the carpet between the bathroom and his bed, where he had set up a decent-sized potion lab. "Sleep is for the dead, Steve. And it's almost May. It'll all be over soon."

Stephen grunted in response so that Kevin knew he'd at least heard him. But then he turned on his side and continued reading, hoping that things wouldn't end sooner than expected and in the wrong manner. He was asleep soon after, though.

"It's almost May," Stephen said the next night.

Kevin nodded with bags under his eyes. "I know, Steve. Tomorrow's May first."

"Do you think they assumed that we joined the D.A.?"

"Dunno. What do you think was the clue? Us missing all of today's classes?"

Stephen bit his lip. He had spent today compiling a short list of hopefully helpful spells after his quick nap last night. Then, under the cover of darkness earlier this evening, he had used the Avis Spell—which, thankfully, acted like the Patronus Charm and produced a bird unique to each caster—and sent his red-winged blackbird to Anthony to signal a meeting. Anthony had come up with Ginny Weasley and Susan Bones' help, and Stephen had given him the information.

But they'd all caught up in the seventh-year boys' dorm, Lisa and Su even joining them. The health and healing potions Kevin had been brewing were a godsend, but they needed more. Seamus Finnigan was in a bad way, and Neville Longbottom apparently looked unrecognizable.

Lisa, who had long wanted to become a Healer and had begun her own self-training earlier in the school year with Madam Pomfrey's private help, had written down several spells and explained them to Ginny and Susan as best she could. In the end, however, Lisa had grown frustrated and demanded they take her to the Room of Requirement with them. Su, not one to let her girlfriend enter danger alone, left with her. Now Kevin and Stephen were the only seventh years left in Ravenclaw Tower.

And now Stephen was petrified. They really had all but officially joined the D.A. by ignoring their mandatory class attendance.

"Have you got enough now?" he asked, pushing all the crumpled parchment and books off his bed and going over to Kevin.

"No, of course not!" Kevin's voice wasn't loud, but his tone was sharp enough, as if he'd yelled. He gritted his teeth. "Sorry, sorry. It's just—no sleep, and this isn't enough for them… For us…," he added with wide eyes as it suddenly hit him how it must look to the current headmaster that they must've finally chosen a side.

"No, that's not what I mean," Stephen corrected, oblivious to Kevin's epiphany. "I mean, what have you made? Are they really offensive, or are they mostly defensive potions? As in, will we be relying on spells most of the time?"

Kevin scowled up at him. "Oh, no, these are just bottles and phials of fertilizer for Sprout—I'd thought I'd leave the protecting to my wand-waving boyfriend!" he snapped mockingly.

"Well, I'm sorry! But I can't help but ask, considering all the stuff I've been reading. I don't even think that'll be enough," Stephen snarled, gesturing to the dozens of volumes he had borrowed and filched the past few weeks.

"The potions will be enough—or, they would be, if you helped me and stopped worrying!"

"I can't help but worry, Kev! We could die out there!" He panted and then added, "There's a real war out there, and it's only a matter of time before it's on our doorstep."

They glared at each other for several minutes. Nothing could be heard but Stephen's heavy breathing and the bubbling of the potions.

But then Stephen sat down and got to work on chopping ingredients and Kevin returned to mixing. They worked in silence, because things were too crucial right now to mess up because of an argument they'd had which had resulted in one of them giving in anyway. And they worked like that through the night and into early morning and well into the next day.

Stephen awoke early that evening, right as it was dusk. His muscles were sore, and he ached a great deal…and then he sat up and realized that sleeping on a silver knife and a mortar was not a very comfortable thing to do.

Kevin woke up, as well, a mint leaf stuck to his nose. "G'morning," he said. Then he locked eyes with Stephen, dark brown meeting brown, and seemed to recall their argument. He glared at his boyfriend and huffed, getting back to work on making a few more potions.

Stephen scowled, but not at Kevin. He simply wished they hadn't argued at all, and he wished he hadn't opened his mouth. He wanted to apologize and clear the air and remind Kevin that he loved him, but he couldn't stomach doing that right now. Sometimes they just needed to stew before making up, so Stephen began to clean up their room instead of apologizing.

Hours passed, and a few of the younger Ravenclaws knocked on their dorm door, leaving food outside for them. Stephen fetched it and silently thanked whichever allies they had in their Housemates. He left Kevin's share by him and ate in peace while Kevin put the finishing touches on the last two potions.

"Are you done?" Stephen asked as Kevin put most things away.

"For now," the other boy answered bitterly. He wolfed down his food. Only after did he say anything else. "Thanks for finally helping me."

"Yeah," Stephen said. There was a "Hey, honest?" lodged in his throat, but he just couldn't force it out. He hoped he could do so later.

Kevin stood and went to the window—and he saw movement against the night sky. "Hey, Steve, I think something's up in Hogsmeade."

Stephen joined him. There was, in fact, a large gathering of birds above the general vicinity of the Wizarding village. But the birds appeared to be flying out and away, and, if he listened hard enough Stephen thought he could hear something high-pitched—like that Caterwauling Charm in place to alert the Death Eaters about Apparition.

"Stephen—"

The next thing the wizards knew, there was a stampede of activity in the tower, and they cracked the door open to see all the other students file out, led by the Prefects. "Not good," Stephen breathed under his voice. He turned to Kevin. "Kevin, we've got to get to the Room of Requirement. Now."

Kevin nodded and grabbed his rucksack, upon which he'd long since placed an Undetectable Expansion Charm. He gathered all the potions and put them inside, while Stephen emptied his trunk and locked all the books he'd borrowed inside. Just in case they survived and Pince came looking for the books, unharmed, of course.

The two left after a scared second-year witch, whom Kevin asked what was happening. She replied, "Headmaster Snape says Harry Potter's here, and he wants to know where."

As she hurried to keep up with her friends, Stephen and Kevin exchanged a glance. They kept to the shadows, then, and had to pause for one horrifying moment with Filch nearby while Stephen sent another red-winged blackbird to Anthony. But, instead of waiting for Anthony to come, they followed the bird to the wall that hid the Room of Requirement.

Anthony saw them, and he and Terry behind him looked around and motioned for them to come inside.

"About time you blokes showed up!" Terry gasped as he and Michael closed the door behind them. "You had us worried there, wondering if you'd be trapped up there in the dorm or trapped in the Great Hall with Snape."

"Is it true, that Harry's back?" Stephen asked. But his attention was drawn to the size of the room. The Room of Requirement really had been taking care of the D.A.'s and any defected student's needs. Hammocks and sleeping bags were everywhere, and it was amazing to see the sea of maroon, yellow, and blue and to see so many faces within it. Nearly all of their year—Slytherins excluded—were present. There were a number of younger faces, as well, but there were several older ones, too, such as former members of the Gryffindor Quidditch team.

"Yes," Neville answered him, but he had already started handing out assignments in Harry's stead. "And he's got a job to do, so let's do ours."

Stephen wasn't entirely sure what Neville meant, but Michael pulled him and Kevin aside with the other eagles in their year.

"Anyone have any suggestions?" Michael asked.

"The spells I sent—has anyone practiced them?" Stephen inquired.

Padma frowned. "A few have. Just the wording. I wish we'd had time with a real teacher to teach them…"

"I've at least got potions," Kevin said, opening his bag and rummaging around until he had two in each hand. "In general, blue is poison and/or acts like an acid, green will explode, purple will cause side-effects, and red will make the pain go away."

"That's brilliant, Kevin!" Mandy exclaimed, taking one of the red phials. She looked hopefully at him. "Got any more for healing?"

"Orange—a few." He looked at Michael. "If we're splitting up into teams, I'd suggest one of the orange ones per team, though each is about only two servings."

Terry gazed in awe at Kevin's stash. "Merlin! And to think I've had Lisa helping me with Healer spells!"

Lisa raised a disapproving eyebrow at him and cleared her throat. Apparently she was a little more dedicated to becoming a Healer than Terry was.

Kevin basked a little in the praise. "It's all right. Steve helped."

Stephen's face flushed momentarily when all eyes landed on him, but then he cleared his throat. "I guess we're not all going to be on one team, yeah?"

Anthony nodded. "Safer that way, for some." The last bit he added wistfully with a quick look to Terry, who was known to be Anthony's boyfriend. The look made Stephen's stomach flop, and he reactively grabbed Kevin's hand for comfort.

Morag caught the interaction and cleared her throat. "So, I guess we'll plan a double civil ceremony after we kick the villains' arses?" she asked cheekily, as she showed a ghost of the spunky witch she'd once been with her rough Auror's mouth coming through despite not being an Auror—yet.

Kevin blushed, and he and Stephen broke apart. "I don't know what you're talking about."

The others gave them a mixture of looks, throat clearings, snickers, smiles, and "hmph"s, though, so clearly they were unconvinced.

Michael broke away from the group to converse with some of the other D.A. members. Neville, Ginny, and Luna had disappeared already, and now Seamus, Dean, and Parvati were acting as their lieutenants. Even the older students, such as the Weasley twins, had disappeared to prepare for the fray.

Altogether, they broke up into groups of about four, but they barely had time to do so, as shouts broke out and the sound of life-ending spells could be heard. Despite the chaos, Stephen and Kevin were in the only Ravenclaw-only group with Lisa and Su, and the various groups dispersed, with the exception of Zacharias Smith, who was in a hurry not to fight but to flee. But they couldn't mind him now, for the battle, as Stephen had said it would, had finally arrived at Hogwarts Castle.

Stephen, Kevin, Lisa, and Su meant to fight mainly in the corridors as they headed towards the kitchens to alert the house-elves. They managed to get there fine, but the house-elves were already on alert and fighting Death Eaters with pies and produce alike. The sight would've been funny had the circumstances not been life-or-death.

"Stick together!" Stephen shouted at his friends as they wound their way up the floors to aid the battle in some other way. But, while the descent had been easy, their return was not.

Death Eaters and their Dark witch and wizard sympathizers had broken through the castle's barriers embarrassingly easily, and they now flooded the place. Some went after the underage students, who now ran for their lives. Others, such as the three coming the quartet's way, went after any rebels.

For one paralyzing moment, Stephen locked eyes with one of the Death Eaters. He had dark brown eyes like Kevin's—but they were only alike in color. Kevin's could never look that cold to him, no matter what.

The very next second, the Death Eaters flung hexes and curses at them every which way. They had the advantage, as these three were good with nonverbal casting.

Lisa and Su weren't half bad with the nonverbal magic, either, and they stunningly held their own against two of them.

But Stephen struggled with one, picking his brain for good spells while at the same time trying not to let his fear freeze him in place. Kevin fumbled with his bag, but he grabbed one phial—a blue one—and threw it at their Death Eater. Not expecting anything but spells, the Death Eater gaped as the phial fiercely shattered on the ground by his feet, sending glass shards and acid potion all over him. He shrieked in pain and crumpled to the floor; he wouldn't be getting back up anytime soon.

Faith renewed in the good fight, Stephen and Kevin turned their attention towards the burlier one of Lisa and Su's two opponents. That Death Eater turned their way, as well, and Stephen and Kevin both practiced their fancy footwork as they simultaneously dueled the man.

The duel pushed them up the floors and out near the inner courtyard. Stephen lost sight of the girls, but he could hardly be worried about them when his own life and Kevin's were in jeopardy at this very moment.

Their opponent appeared to grow annoyed with them, as though he'd been looking for a real fight. Instead of attacking them, he took to deflecting their spells and blowing up the castle around them. It made the two young wizards do twice as much work as they dueled and ducked.

But ducking worked only so long, and an explosion from the other side of the wall rained stone on all three males. Stephen could only hope that the destruction would at least do in this Death Eater.

Stephen then craned his neck as deadly spells came flying through the new hole.

To his horror, a bright, green strip of light hit Kevin.

Then Kevin fell.

His face was a mask of terror, a frozen "Don't leave me" stamped into place on his features. Stephen had time only to gape as another explosion sent him up and flying…and, when he landed, everything went black.

"Hey, honest?"

…

"Honest."

…

"I'm not just terrified, but I've got this bad feeling in my gut. I'm going to lose you. I know it."

…

"I didn't mean to fight with you. I love you, you know that?"

…

"I love our friends, too, but I could've cared less about spells and potions and war."

…

"I wanted us to run away. We should've run away the moment we saw something was up in Hogsmeade."

…

……

………

Stephen slowly opened his eyes. Had he been dreaming? But the pain he had when he moved told him, no, he hadn't been dreaming. Everything had been real, too horrifically real.

Worse still, he had not been playing a game of "Hey, honest?" with Kevin. No, all those words just now had come from him. He could still taste them on his lips, even if his voice had sounded alien to him.

Stephen struggled to stand. He looked down and saw that his right leg was broken, and he sighed. Binding some tree branches (how had they gotten all the way here?) with some tattered black-and-blue robes (did he dare to wonder whose they were?), he made a crutch for himself. A part of him wanted to see what had happened, as night had become morning and things in general were quiet now. But he could check on others later if he actually felt like doing so.

Instead, Stephen hobbled for a good twenty minutes before he reached where he was sure Kevin had died. Maybe, maybe it had been a dream, that part. Maybe Kevin had been struck with something else, not the Killing Curse. But Stephen had to see Kevin alive and well for that to be true.

But it wasn't true, and Kevin's body lay frightfully motionless and horrorstruck amidst dust and debris. Someone had nicked his bag, but Stephen couldn't care if someone had taken it after Kevin's death since he obviously would not have needed it anymore.

Stephen fell to his good knee, but he couldn't cry. The tears simply wouldn't come. Or maybe they didn't exist, he wondered. Maybe, when it came to Kevin, he just couldn't cry. Maybe there was such a thing as a love that was so beyond words that not even tears could do its loss justice.

Stephen liked to think of it as "Hey, honest?" love, if he had to name it.

But its name didn't matter.

Kevin wasn't alive any longer.

With a heave and a swallowed yelp, Stephen stood and hobbled away from the castle, away from the forest, and away from a victory won in death. He knew there must've been Healers and helpers on call for the survivors, but he couldn't face them. Not now, and likely not ever. He wasn't a survivor in need of help. He wasn't even much of a survivor at all. …no, not at all, since he'd really died the moment Kevin had. And Stephen didn't mind that, not really.

No emoticons can convey my emotion over killing Kevin like that, Merlin… But it's part of my headcanon, and this is one of two fics that leads into another oneshot called "the broken ones." I'm so sorry, Stephen…! You and Kevin were the best…! *creys* Gah... I'd like to think that something like the secret help in Hogwarts did happen, though; the D.A. needed a lot of help. I also liked that my version of Lisa became a little more adamant here; I do love her and Su Li together. About Kevin being there for his 7th year: I know JKR's original notes said he was a Muggle-born, but she changed her mind about Hannah Abbott being a pureblood as well as being a Muggle-born, so I believe Kevin to be a half-blood, therefore placing him at Hogwarts in 1998. Also, that's just my idea of how the Avis Spell works; I first wrote that idea in another fic of mine, Lavender Brown's Requiem, and it's just stuck with me ever since. Gah… Well, read "the broken ones" now, or read the other lead-in fic to it, "A Life Well-Lived." *sobbing* Stevin…!

2017 note: As mentioned in the new note at the end of "A Life Well-Lived," unfortunately "the broken ones" is still forthcoming, but it is something Stephen sorely needs… ;w; This 2013 fic stands out in my mind bc of Kevin's death. Not only did he die when technically he and Stephen were still in the middle of a fight, but it happened so abruptly. I think that's one of the things about the Killing Curse, how quickly it can devastate; you just don't have the time to process it. But, Godric… So much death happened that day… ;w; But! I don't write only death in my overall headcanon, the Maydayverse; there's plenty that happens before and after the war, so I encourage you to go looking for something happier after this… Oh, man… Rereading this 4 yrs later has made me tear up again…! Dx

so katie you sent me this ask literally MONTHS ago but bc you’re so amazing and sent me a bunch of asks i didn’t get around to answering all of them!! so here you go, questions you probably forgot you asked about my ocs (and made me decide which ones to answer for, rip im so indecisive!)

3.) Name one scar your character has, and tell us where it came from. If they don’t have any, is there a reason?

So one of the first I think of is Vivienne Beauregarde. She’s a Gryffindor who was in 6th year during the Battle of Hogwarts, but already of age so she was allowed to stay behind to fight (though obviously plenty who weren’t allowed did stay too!) Viv is…. ferocious. She throws herself full force into things, which included the fight. Her twin sibling Mallory, who she loves with all of her heart, was fighting too and happened to be one of the more skilled-at-Healing members of Dumbledore’s Army, so Mal was one of the three designated field medics in the battle. Viv devoted herself to protecting Mal in the fight - both because strategically, they needed as many Healers as possible, and because she absolutely loves her twin. This meant Viv did so much to protect Mal, at the cost of her own safety. When Mal was hit with a Disarming Spell, Viv just handed them her wand without a second thought. She then broke off a leg of an Acromantula she’d killed to use it as a weapon now that she didn’t have her wand (the leg has barbs an inch or so long so it’s a pretty damn useful weapon for fighting up close!) and uses that. It’s honestly a miracle she dodged the Killing Curses, but she was hit with a lot of spells that did damage but still couldn’t bring her down. Acromantula bites, cursed wounds, all sorts of injuries and she stayed on her feet for hours. The only reason she didn’t die is when she finally collapsed, Mal was right there to stabilize her and so she made it until the Battle was won and she got full medical care at St. Mungo’s. Now, with all that backstory, she obviously has a lot of scars. One of her big ones is a huge Acromantula bite on her arm (since she tackled a lot of those up close). She also was hit with a Reducto full in the abdomen, but Mal was able to keep that from killing her, so she just has the scorch marks and shiny regrown skin to show where it almost blew her apart. Interestingly though, for where she *doesn’t* have scars is on her face and neck. That’s because when she was being healed at St. Mungo’s, they healed a lot of the damage there while she was unconscious (one spell that had hit her in the face was possibly messing up her breathing, so understandable to repair that damage, and then they just went on to clear more of it). However, once she woke up Viv was angry they healed a lot of the superficial damage on her face. They’re her battle wounds, her marks of valor - proof of what she went through for her twin. She insisted that they be left behind. Lucky for her, the Healers hadn’t gotten around to doing the cosmetic work on scars below her neck, so she still has a huge array of scars to show there.

That turned out really long but honestly I have so many other possible scars to talk about for people rip! I’ll also talk about Lavender (who isn’t an OC but is an important character in all of this). She survives the Battle with deep scars from Greyback, mostly at her neck and upper torso. Since they’re cursed, she doesn’t have a choice of whether to heal them or not, and they are always really vivid. As soon as she’s released from the hospital, she joins the fledgling group of Aurors who are being recruited to have a defense against future dark wizards (as does Viv, since who could keep her away!? Her recuperation is way longer though so she doesn’t join until a few months after the battle, whereas Lavender and others start training within the first week). Lavender gets new scars in the future of course, but one of her werewolf-caused scars is visible on the underside of her jaw and she has them all over her neck, so they’re by far her most visible. This absolutely produces a challenge in Auror training when she and others have to pass the concealment tests that Tonks mentioned in OotP!

6.) Describe your character’s happiest memory.

Ooh this is hard to pin down just one thing! Even my OCs with the toughest lives have multiple good spots to choose from.

For Sue, her happiest memories involve her beloved partner Beck, her family, or both. Beck’s family was… not the most involved ever, and when nobody comes to pick them up after their first summer when Hogwarts ends, Sue’s mother decides that Beck is coming home with them until their mother or stepfather get their shit together and get Beck, because no twelve-year-old is going to be waiting alone at the train station obviously! That’s the first of many times Beck goes to the Li household (their flat is right in London so it’s very easy to go there from Kings Cross), and sometimes it’s hours, sometimes it’s weeks. While that’s obviously shitty, that’s the background to a lot of Sue’s happy memories where her partner (who for the first few years they know each other, they say best friend! Then girlfriend comes later) is so unequivocally welcome in her family. So many good holiday moments there, and there was one Chinese New Year celebration that fell during the Hogwarts winter holidays that Beck was able to attend, which made Sue so happy that the most festive holiday for her family was now something Beck could take part in! That’s definitely up there for happiest memory, but maybe one concrete one is right after her little brother Todd comes out to their family as trans (he’d learned it was a possibility and it was okay through Beck, who by the time they’re 16 is out to everyone including all of the Li family). Because Richard and Catherine Li are probably the best parents EVER, they accept and affirm Todd 100%, as does the oldest Li sibling, Ava. What they don’t understand yet, they ask and want to know (and Sue and Beck have done a lot of reading when Beck was trying to figure out their identity, so they have the information!) The specific memory that’s one of Sue’s favorites is when Todd gets his wish to have his hair “cut short just like Sue’s!” and she helps him buzz his hair. Their parents and older sister are there and supportive, and so is Beck, chatting with Todd in the British Sign Language that they had worked so hard to communicate well with Sue’s mother and siblings. It’s really representative of so much good in her life that she loves about her family.

Another character who does have a few happiest memories I can pin down is probably Anthony! A lot of his happiest memories were also during summer vacations, specifically with his best friends Kevin and Phoebe. There’s one specific summer day they’re all at Kevin’s house, goofing off in the kitchen (maybe helping with dinner? maybe causing more distraction than actual help?) and singing and dancing. Anthony has loved theater and plays all his life, and while he can’t sing on key at all, Kevin has sung all his life and Phoebe is pretty talented as well. He had taught them some of his favorite musicals, and Phoebe and Kevin dancing around and singing along. There definitely would have been some Into The Woods, A Chorus Line, and Anthony’s (at the time) favorite, Pirates of Penzance. One of Kevin’s dads took a break from cooking to get out the camera and snap some pictures to immortalize their fun, which were very cherished mementos later, if so incongruous to remember when they were that young and carefree… Anthony did have very happy memories even in later years in the war though, especially with Blaise when they officially started dating in the beginning of 1998. They had a ton of happy moments, like the first time they told each other “I love you”, or almost all of their spring vacation where they were free from Hogwarts and spent nearly all of their time together. Anthony really cherishes a memory from a little after Valentine’s Day when they were in the Prefects’ bathroom together (a place with decent privacy to protect their secret relationship!) and just fell asleep in each other’s arms.

8.) Day of Favorites! What’s your character’s favorite ice cream flavor? Color? Song? Flower?

Hannah’s favorite ice cream is strawberry cheesecake. Her favorite color is light green, her favorite song is Celestina Warbeck’s Could Any Seer Have Foretold This, and her favorite flower is probably a bulbous buttercup or trumpeting lily.

Phoebe’s favorite ice cream is probably chocolate but in milkshake form, and her favorite color is purple (either violet or lavender, either is beautiful). She has a lot of favorite songs, but pretty much all are from musicals - Without You from Rent always makes her cry and she loves almost every song in that show; Dust and Ashes from Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 is one of the most recent additions to her favorites list. However her all time favorite might be Les Miserables’ Bring Him Home (her mother is French so she fell in love with the original Les Mis book, and knows both the French and English songs to all of Les Mis!)

10.) Can you define a turning point in your character’s life? Multiples are acceptable.

Two turning points in Padma’s life! The sad one is the Battle of Hogwarts where she lost her sister and many other people important to her. She had never imagined the war would end so soon, thinking it could stretch years into adulthood and of course it seemed inevitable that some loved ones would die, but the reality of it and the war so abruptly being over took a lot of grappling to understand. Rebuilding the wizarding world was a huge part of her life that began after that turning point of course. She also had a few lasting injuries from the Battle - she’d fought on the roof of the Astronomy Tower, which was an amazing vantage point for firing down at the Death Eaters below. However, they realized this before long and began amassing forces against it and the other towers they had strategically placed fighters. None of Voldemort’s forces were able to take the towers to then use for their own snipers, Padma and her comrades fighting them off. They tried their best though and one Death Eater who flew up on broomstick fired a Dark curse at her that cut deeply into her face, and if she hadn’t partially dodged probably would have beheaded her instead of just leaving a huge scar (I considered talking about her in the scar portion but it was already really long!) It was never fully healed because of the Dark magic, and it left her with limited mobility on the right side of her face because of the damage. Once the Death Eaters realized they wouldn’t gain control of any of the towers, they decided to just destroy them. A few of the smaller ones like the West Tower had the stone roof turned into molten lava by a powerful curse, so the fighters on that one needed to be quickly evacuated and it became useless. The Astronomy Tower lasted the longest, but its damage was most severe. While the other towers mostly just had the roof and battlements destroyed so nobody could stay to fight there, the combination of giants attacking the base and Death Eaters flying around it led to the whole thing crumbling. Padma was one of the few to survive of all of those who were on the towers, because she was already halfway down the tower from it crumbling apart, clinging to the outside for dear life, when it was all brought to rubble and so she didn’t fall to her death. She did a ton of damage to her right foot when she eventually hit the ground, though luckily for her it was a short enough drop to be survivable.

That’s long and pretty depressing but the more fun turning point in her life was the gay awakening! She was in her 20s and had spent all of her life until then thinking she was straight because she had been in relationships with guys and it was very hard to identify the lack of attraction there by its absence. She just thought other straight women had the same indifference to dating she had. It was one day when she was entranced by her fellow Auror Susan Bones working out, doing press ups and biceps showcased. That was when Padma was hit with holy fuck this is what they’re talking about when people say they’re actually attracted to someone. After that, things made so much more sense in her life.

13.) What does your character’s bed look like when he/she wakes up? Are the covers off on one side of the bed, are they all curled around a pillow, sprawled everywhere? In what position might they sleep?

Ginny steals all of the covers every time, so they’re bunched around her. Harry (or one of her other partners, since they’re both polyamorous and date other people) often has a little corner pulled back but it’s very imbalanced! She sleeps on her side and legs curled up underneath her, often turned away from her partner so that she can be the little spoon. When she sleeps alone, the sheets often get tangled because she still pulls them in her sleep! Once the kids are born, if they need to be in her bed after a nightmare or something, she’ll hold them close in front of her (which helps comfort them and keep them covered instead of having the sheets accidentally pulled off of them by Ginny!)

Priscilla Wagner sleeps on her side too, but ramrod straight. Her one hand is always under her pillow, holding her wand so she’ll be ready at a moment’s notice. Her covers are tucked in very loosely so she can kick them off easily and instantaneously, and jump out of bed unhindered by anything. She doesn’t sleep too well.

17.) What’s your character’s desk/workspace look like? Are they neat or messy?

Ava Proudfoot becomes Head Auror by default after the war, since she and Kingsley are the only fully trained Aurors who are still alive and didn’t fight with the Death Eaters when it served their best interests. Kingsley obviously becomes busy running the whole government as Minister, so training the few remaining trainees who also were on the right side of the war and all of the new recruits is a very busy job. She manages to keep her office absolutely pristine though. None of them know how she does it. Ron and Dean dare each other to make messes there; dumping untidy sheafs of paperwork or leaving crumbs from a pastry they happened to be eating while meeting with her. They keep trying to figure out how she gets everything so clean so well; it doesn’t even seem like she reaches for her wand to cast the cleaning charms. She just has everything in order and however she does it, it impresses the hell out of everyone.

Ginny has different workplaces through the years - immediately after the war ends, she works in a task force to round up remaining Death Eaters, Dementors, etc after the war (they serve basically as a short-term interim Auror squad - the new Auror trainees are being worked round the clock to get as fully qualified as quickly as they can, so there’s not much time for them to do the necessary immediate work! There were many people like Ginny who weren’t interested in joining the Aurors because that would be a career commitment of years, but she and Luna and many others work for the months that they need immediate help.) Then she’s free to go do other things, which is in her case becoming a chaser on the Holyhead Harpies. She doesn’t have concrete workspaces for either of these jobs - for the work she does to rebuild after the war, she’s basically based out of home and then meets the others on their missions. As a Quidditch player, it’s mostly just her locker where she stores all of her equipment, and then the whole sky around their pitch is her workspace! Her locker is a goddamn mess though - Harry helps remind her to bring back the dirty laundry and they figure out some good charms to clean out the pervasive odor of sweat in there. Still, her Quidditch uniform and gear is always strewn about and very disorganized. The only pristine thing is her broom, a beautiful Nimbus 2004 that she gets issued by the team and is pretty much the nicest thing she’s ever been able to call hers in her life. She polishes it every day and stores it inside her locker in a fabric case that keeps all of the dirt away from it - and is magically reinforced so if/when she throws her boots or helmet carelessly into the locker, the case will protect the broom. Later in her life, after Ginny retires from professional Quidditch, she works as a sports reporter and primarily writes from home (to nobody’s surprise, her desk there is a mess!) She has a cubicle at The Daily Prophet offices in London, but rarely works there even when all of the kids are at school and she doesn’t need to work from home. She doesn’t like it very much, not just because of how pathetic the Prophet was during the war, but also because she’s alienated a lot of her colleagues in interviews she’s given since the war! Ginny Weasley-Potter does not hold back her opinions.

27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.

Definitely Phoebe is the best person here! I’m going to cheat and go with a few songs to describe one of the points though. Empty Chairs at Empty Tables from Les Mis is the first to describe her immediate-post war life. She loses her entire family in the war, as well as other loved ones. Dust and Ashes, which I mentioned earlier as one of her favorite songs, really reflects how she struggles in the immediate aftermath to find any purpose in living and going on (SO much survivor’s guilt…)

Later in her life, I’m trying to pick a specific point to describe… Either Another Day from Rent, or more accurately the part of the Finale B where it’s lyrics from Without You and Another Day blended together beautifully. It resonates with her a lot, when she’s finally happy with her life again and making the most of it while she can. “There’s only now/There’s only here/Give in to love/Or live in fear” describes a lot of different feelings she has, and since all of these are from musicals and she became a huge musical buff (no small thanks to Anthony for introducing her to them!) so a lot of these feelings and similarities are ones she feels in-story. There are definitely a lot of happy songs to think about for her later life when she’s living her truth, has a great support network, and lots of love, but that’s the main one I’m thinking for right now!

This got really long (no wonder it took me forever to do it!) but I hope you enjoy reading as much as I did writing, Katie!

But the more time you spent in the common room, the more you learned to embrace yourself for who you were--and that was the key. You burst from your cookie cutter and became your own person, appreciating all that was strange and odd in the world.
