One of my new projects in 2024 is making cards to donate to my church's hospitality ministry. This is by far the busiest group in our church--always cooking and gathering and taking food/clothes/etc. to those in need. Sometimes it's a family who is trying to scrape by, sometimes it's an elderly church member who can't get out anymore. They were really happy with the idea of including handmade cards to include in their packages.

I ordered two rubber stamps from TheStampMaker.com to use for these cards. The drawing is a hand-drawn sketch done by a church member decades ago and I just made up the sentiment stamp. The real challenge is trying to include both in a card (though I certainly don't need the sketch stamp for every card design). So far this is what I have and I'm really enjoying it :)

Why do we go to church? After Jesus ascending into Heaven the first century Christ followers “met together in one place and shared everything they had. They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity - all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:44-47)

That sounds amazing, but the churches of today are not like that. The pastor takes the lions share of the tithes and offerings, the people are too judgemental, there’s rules, I’ve done things, I’ve got things going on that are not good enough, so I can’t be a church person.

Oh, contraire!

These are the devils lies, 101. Believing them makes his job much easier, especially when you’re alone. Stay right where you are! It’s safe here. Wrong! We are are not safe here. God created the church as our safe haven. To step out of satan’s daily bombardment and experience God word, His goodness and love. People will be people, even in church, but the major difference is what is being pursued. The Lord who is full of grace, forgiveness, loves you for who you are and always will, or the devil who just wants you to follow him, fills you with fear and anxiety so we stay in our little box. Those are our choices.

Freedom is not given because we live in a certain country, it’s only in following Christ. No possessions, no religions, retirement, business or job. Only in Christ.

Put aside the lies of satan. Attend a local church and join in. Be patient. And enjoy a slice of Heaven with God’s people.
