Day 8 Victor/Zen - Mr. Love: Queen's Choice

I felt like this man needed some recognition whether you know him as Victor or his Japanese name Zen either way this is one fine man, now let me tell you why he is husbando material.

He Is All About You

You are his everything, his number one need and he will do anything for you. Yes he has his dominates side to him but he will always treat you with tenderness and kindness. He is still the guy who will wait until you tell him what you want and once he knows then his dominate streak kicks in but he will never make you do anything you don't want to. He knows he doesn't want to lose you at any cost.

Loves To Cuddle

Any chance you get your welcome to fall asleep in his arms. He will read you a bed rime story, or just hold you and keep you warm. After a long day he might even snuggle you and fall asleep in your arms. You are the only one he has let his guard down and can rest peacefully next to you without worrying about anything bad happening to him. He knows you take care of his heart same way he takes care of you. He likes to watch you sleep at times, pushing your hair back off your face so he can see how beautiful you are as you dream. He loves to watch you breathe knowing the woman he loves is in his arms.

It doesn't always have to be sex but he has no problem pulling you in as your putting up your hair before you go out or grabbing you and kissing you while your at a fancy party. He doesn't care where it is if the notion strikes him and he knows he wants your lips he will grab you and pull you into him crashing his plush lips against yours and embracing your whole body as he does so. Its not hard to see in a moment like this his whole body will be pushed against yours and if he doesn't make you wet from just a simple gesture like this trust me he will do it again before the nights out until you want him and can't think about anything else.

He is the guy who will hold you all night long if you tell him your scared or hold a umbrella over your hear while he stands in the rain to protect you from getting sick. He will throw rose petals all over the floor before you come home leading you to a bubble bath with soft music, wine, bubbles and him waiting for you to join him. He knows how to make you feel special.

Consider him your prince charming because he will ride in on a horse sweep you up off your feet and carry you in his arms with him. He even looks sexy as a prince too so its a win/win. Like many fans I've always had issues with Holmes' retirement in canon... not just the separation from Watson but the fact that he always loved detective work so much and it's just hard for me to think of a non-depressing reason why he decided to retire so early in life, move away from everything he loves and focus all his time on some random new hobby that we've never heard about before. I mean even though he's a solitary guy I just have a hard time believing Holmes would actually want to move out to the middle of nowhere where he can't easily go and see concerts whenever he wants.

I know some fic writers try to make sense of it by positing that he had a transformative experience during the Hiatus where he learned how to relax and find true happiness and emotional fulfillment by living a peaceful life appreciating nature instead of doing morbid stuff like obsessing over murders and risking his life all the time, but I dunno... it's not exactly that I find this unbelievable and more that the idea of Sherlock Holmes as a zen nature lover who couldn't be truly happy until he quit being a detective just doesn't appeal to me very much lol.

So how about this alternative theory:

Holmes is sick of being famous and having people hassle him all the time for interviews/autographs/etc (THAT part I can definitely believe). Around 1903 he gets fed up and decides to leave Baker St and secretly move to another location in London, possibly even under the thin façade of an assumed name to keep the neighbors from asking too many questions. (Maybe Mrs. Hudson also retired from landladying around this time and that was part of the impetus for him to leave.) For a while he'll go back to being primarily a "consulting" detective, taking cases from a few Scotland Yard inspectors or government officials who can be trusted with his new address. He had previously banned Watson from publishing any more stories about him, precisely to avoid growing his fame even further; but now he says, "You can publish more stories, but only on the condition that you tell them I'm retired and not living in London anymore." Then Watson is like "How should I say you're spending your retirement?" and Holmes is like "IDK, keeping bees?" as like a random joke. Either that or Watson made up all the "peaceful life of a country beekeeper" stuff to twit Holmes because it's the complete opposite of what he actually enjoys.

Of course eventually people will start piecing together the truth, so Watson writes "The Lion's Mane" to further push the story (and/or as another joke, making it deliberately ridiculous to see if people will still buy it).

Eventually, sometime after the war, Holmes does retire for real; but he stays in London (maybe at still a third address, to shake off the people who managed to track him down last time). He spends his days doing chemical work and writing his book on detection and going out to concerts every night. Watson may or may not live with him, but in any case he's also still in London and they see each other all the time. The end.

,,I can answer this,’’ Jaehee said, her eyes were on fire as she lifted up her lenses.

,,Because our lovely Mc,’’ her palm directed towards you ,,in an interview named Mr Han ,,my husband’’ and guess who liked the ring of it,’’ she smiled, she was there when it happened.

You answered a question and named Jumin instead of fiancé ,,my husband’’ but quickly corrected to ,,fiancé’’ - something Jumin disliked.

He was proud and excited to be named your husband, he loved the moment so deeply and Jaehee still had his bright, happy smile in front of her eyes, as well as his facial expression when you corrected yourself.

And since he liked the ring of his soon-to-be name, he wanted to rush things.

Jumin’s hand was entangled in yours, remembering that day brought memories up and he truly felt blessed.

Zen nodded at Jaehee’s explanation.

,,Mc, were you even okay with it?’’ he asked you, wondering if you even were allowed to decide anything in that marriage.

,,Yes, Jumin wouldn’t let me sleep in his bed beside him, I was craving for more and so I was happy over the rush,’’ you answered, making Zen choke.

Jumin - your husband - was even prouder now.

Zen

,,Zenny, you are so cuteeee!’’ you laughed, you were laying on top of him, both of you cuddling and wrestling softly.

,,You are my cutie, princess. But don’t name me Zen or Zenny, let me be your Hy-’’

,,Husband? Oppa?’’ you asked him, looking deep into his red eyes.

Zen had to process what you just said.

You named him Husband.

His face turned red, glowing and burning.

He was getting embarrassed but slowly smiled.

Hearing that out of your mouth gave him a new ring, and he liked it.

,,Oh, sorry, you wanted to say Hyun, didn’t you? Of course I will,’’ you smiled and gave him a kiss on his soft lips.

,,Now I am embarassed that I called you like that,’’ you laughed, turning red on your own.

You quickly hid your face between his neck and his shoulder and hugged him stronger.

,,Please, just forget it,’’ you begged him, sighing.

But Zen couldn’t think of anything else than your words, than the meaning which was held into the word ,,Husband’’.

And now you would name him Hyun…

,,Hello, I called earlier, I am here to see your engaged rings,’’ Zen said the next day to the lady in the jewelry shop.

No way he was going to make you call him Hyun instead of Oppa.

He wanted an upgrade now.

Yoosung

,,Seven years,’’ Yoosung sighed, giving your hand a squeeze.

,,Yes, seven years, I can’t believe, that we already have been married for so long,’’ you chuckled.

Suddenly you remembered something ,,Remember, when I came to the hospital while lunch break and asked your co-worker about your whereabouts?’’ you asked him, of course, he remembered.

,,Yes, you asked about your husband, even though we still weren’t married,’’ he smirked.

And everyone was angry with me that I didn’t tell them I was married,’’ he told you, remembering how embarrassed but happy he was when someone finally found him and told him that you, his wife, were waiting for you, only to find you with a similar redhead.

And in that very moment, Yoosung made a decision - as soon as he had his day off, he wanted to buy you a well-deserved engagement ring.

Jaehee

It was a hard day, after a shift of so many hours on your legs, your head was empty.

The shop was booming, of course both of you, Jaehee and you, were thankful for that.

However, you still had your challenges to keep it up.

It was almost closing time when your friends Yoosung and Zen entered the coffee shop, ready to eat the last pieces of cakes that wouldn’t be sold anymore - probably.

Actually, Yoosung was going to bring some to his family since neither of you wanted to throw them away.

When Yoosung wanted to give you at least a bit of money, you shook your head.

,,Even my wifey said no, so take it!’’ you laughed.

Everyone stopped breathing, Yoosung and Zen both looked at your hand, eyes glued on your ringless finger while Jaehee’s cheeks slowly turned red.

,,Wifey?’’ she asked you.

However, you didn’t realize what you just said.

,,Wifey?’’ you repeated, making Jaehee turn even deeper in red.

The four of you were laughing, while you were denying your own words, Zen and Yoosung tried to assure you, that you just named her your wife.

And Jaehee was trying - of course in secret - to find out if she still had your ring size from the latest jewelry order to ask you to become her real wife…

Saeyoung

If someone would have told him that he would have pushed you from the couch for saying something cute, he would have shown that person his middle finger.

But he couldn’t because he was currently pressing a cold ice pack on your throbbing head while his arm was holding your waist.

,,I am so sorry,’’ he whispered, little kisses on your wet cheek.

You were crying because of the pain, but you knew, that he didn’t mean it.

You were still in pain though.

,,I will never call you Oppa or Hubby,’’ you groaned, giving him a side-eye.

He smiled apologetically.

,,My hand moved on it’s own, of course, I loved it when you named me ,,Hubby’’...

But I was so embarrassed…I just wanted to push you lightly, I didn’t mean to make you fall,’’ he confessed.

You rolled your eyes.

,,I know. But I would like to get a pre-divorce,’’ you kept teasing him.

Of course, the little pain you were having was gone in a few hours but still, Saeyoung kept thinking a lot and a lot about this incident.

He was thinking of a way of preventing something like this again and his only way was making it real - he had to become your real-life husband.

when zenyatta said that he had to pick a couple more plants for his room and invited ramattra to come with, that's when he met you

at first he kept his distance

but after a while of just some browsing, he watched as you were careful with every single plant and nothing but kind to every omnic who walked in

when zen let him know that it was time to leave, ramattra's eyes were still glued to you and zen just giggled pushing him to talk to you

when he finally got the guts to say something, you ended up talking for a while

he was super standoffish and shy at first, almost as if he was scared that you would attack him any second

he ended up visiting the flower shop more than you thought he would

he would carefully browse and then end up just staying to talk to you

it moved from talking about plants to talking about life

this is gonna be super cheesy, so bear with me lmao: one time, he comes in and puts in an order for a bouquet of flowers. you're building the whole thing in front of him and he's smiling as you're adding more and more flowers. when you finally ask for the name on the order, he says your name. at first you just laugh until he points at them and then points at you. you cant stop blushing for the rest of the day

he lets you put flowers in his wire hair and in between his ribcage to spruce him up a bit

one time he found his staff covered in flowers and couldnt help but smile

he wouldnt tell ANYONE about your interactions

and he would literally BEG you not to tell anyone lmaoooo

he's so in denial about the both of you, but becomes a cuddly teddy bear whenever he's actually around you

he will 100% braid your hair while you're working on some bouquets or something

Short stories (available online)

Radcliffe Hall by Miyuki Jane Pinckard - 40k word novella, with a Japanese student attending an American women's college in 1908. It's a Gothic novel with the characters encountering the supernatural, which is no less malevolent than systemic racism and homophobia.

The First Stop Is Always the Last by John Wiswell - Short and sweet time loop flirtation!

Scallop by J.L. Akagi - A woman begins growing eyes all over her body, and struggles to hide them. All the warnings for body horror, eye injury, and referenced sexual assault.

The World Ends in Salty Fingers and Sugared Lips by Jen Reese - Time loop story about the end of the world and the ways we try to deal with the crushing uncertainty of the inevitable.

Romance

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston - Subway time travel romance! August moves to New York and meets Jane, a butch punk from the 70s who’s trapped on the subway. It’s warm and sweet and funny, with all the feels and queer found family goodness.

Fatal Fidelity by Rien Gray - Dark romance/erotic suspense featuring a bi femme fatale and a nonbinary assassin! The series begins with Love Kills Twice, in which Justine hires an assassin to get rid of her abusive husband…unaware that Campbell was also hired to kill her. Absolutely delicious.

Feminine Pursuits series by Olivia Waite - While I’m listing it as a series, each novel is entirely stand-alone! These are a set of historical F/F novels featuring women in arts and science (and beekeeping!) making their way and falling in love with one another!

Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan - Historical romance as two older women (73 and 69 years old, respectively!) plot the downfall of an absolutely Terrible Nephew who deserves everything that happens to him. An absolutely delicious comedic romp.

The Cybernetic Tea Shop by Meredith Katz - An AI repair technician and an autonomous robot who runs a small tea shop, set in a retro-futuristic America. It’s warm and gentle and yearning in very good ways.

Horror/Suspense

Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin - Gender apocalypse featuring trans women! A virus has turned anyone with over a certain level of testosterone into cannibal rape monsters, so we’re following our trans protagonists as they try to survive feral men, murderous TERFs, and a sociopathic bunker brat. This deserves a LOT of content warnings but it’s also been blurbed as a ‘bleeding love letter to trans women’ and it really is.

Blackwater Sister by Zen Cho - A Malaysian-American lesbian moves to Malaysia with her family, where she is haunted by her grandmother’s ghost. Her grandmother is out for supernatural revenge, involving our protagonist with gangsters and a terrifying goddess.

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters - Historical crime novel in which a thief poses as a lady’s maid for a con, and ends up developing feelings for the mark. Except the lady’s not as innocent as she seems, and it’s difficult to add more without spoiling the novel but it’s good!

Science fiction

A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine - Ambassador Mahit Dzmare travels to the capital of the interstellar Teixcalaanli Empire, discovers that her predecessor has died, and must find not only who murdered him, but why—while trying not to get murdered herself, and trying to maintain her small station’s independence from Teixcalaan’s ever-expanding empire. And there is a sequel but that has its own plot and requires you to read this one anyway!

Passing Strange by Ellen Klages - Set in San Francisco, built on artifice and delight as we follow a group of queer women both present and in the 1940s. Central story is a romance, two women trying to navigate both joy and the brutality of the worlds they inhabit.

This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone - An epistolary love story across time and space, in far futures and alternative pasts as two rival agents—post-singularity Red and bio-consciousness Blue—foil and thwart one another.

Fantasy

The Burning Kingdoms by Tasha Suri - Indian-inspired fantasy trilogy (third book coming in 2024!) that follows a captive princess and a maidservant with forbidden magic who navigate the the tension between their different loyalties and the politics of empire. Just! So good!

The Kingston Cycle by C.L. Polk - A fantasy trilogy (that’s actually complete!) set in a world where witches are persecuted and placed in asylums…while secretly, the witches of elite families use that power in service of the crown. The first book (Witchmark) starts with a murder mystery and a doctor with PTSD who follows that mystery to government secrets that force him to confront his estranged family. It’s also M/M, but the sequels (Stormsong and Soulstar) center around F/F and F/NB main pairings, respectively.

The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir - The first book starts with swordjock butches and lesbian necromancers in space going through (essentially) a haunted mansion together, and it just keeps going after that! It’s delightful, deranged, and full of fantastic characters I want to gnaw on!

When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain by Nghi Vo - A beautiful frame story with a very fairytale feel, where the cleric Chih is telling the story of a tiger and her lover, a female scholar, to a trio of hungry tigers who threaten to eat them if Chih tells the story incorrectly!

A Master of Djinn by P. Djeli Clark - Mystery and magic and suspense in a steampunk Cairo, set forty years after magic returned to the world! The first female agent for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments, and Supernatural Entities is assigned to discover who murdered members of a secret cult. In addition to solving the case, she’s also assigned a rookie partner to train, and navigating the surprise return of her girlfriend, who has her own secrets! This is a really fun romp, full of joy and wonder. (And Fatma’s fabulous suits!)

Nonfiction

In the Dream House by Carmen Machado - A memoir about surviving domestic abuse, with each chapter using a different trope or genre convention to not only explore the way the relationship affected her sense of self, but also about trying (or failing) to find that representation in cultural history. It’s a rough read in places, but absolutely worth it if you’re in a space to handle that sort of content. (And in case it’s not obvious: her ex was another woman. Abuse isn’t limited by gender.)

Alright, welp, of course

Din (and Grogu)

And as you can see, they have brought me flowers, balloons, and a little something in a little gift bag -

I'm thinking Grogu got really excited about getting me a frog, but Din wasn't so sure and got a zen frog statue for my garden and a blaster because Din wants me to be able to protect myself.

Javi G

Javi brings champagne and some lovely tapas made by his chef and divine inspiration...

But because Javi Peña comes, Javi G has to stash it and promises we will use it another time.

And Peña gives me sexy underwear, and I turn bright red and stow it back in the gift bag hurriedly. He winks and says, "for later."

Joel (and Ellie) because they nnneeeeddd it!

And yes, they give me their boggle game. It's wrapped in the Sunday comic pages of a newspaper.

Frankie

Frankie "stole" my gardening tools and gifted them back all sharpened and oiled.

Dieter, and yes, he brought me a baby goat, but he isn't sure he can part with it, and we end up with joint custody.

Ezra because he is my beloved, and he also brings Cee (all the found fathers chat at the party about their kids)

Cee has given me a story she wrote, and Ezra, a white quartz, rounded and smoothed by the sea

Pero, yes, I know he is just going to be grumpy in the corner, but I loves him - and I think he deserves cake

Pero has given me a deer he has killed, "to last me the rest of the winter," and a dagger, like Din, because he wants me to be able to protect myself. Oberyn says it looks like he's courting me, and Pero blushes just a little.

Oberyn wishes he knew children were invited. He would have brought his younger daughters to be with Cee and Ellie, who are having a great time together, and the Littles to play with Grogu.

And he gifts me dornish wine and a silk scarf in the colors of sunspear

Sakura Haruno

Definitely someone who needs to be convinced to relax sometimes as she has a tendency to overwork herself but also bring her work home. She honestly just doesn't stop! You need to pull her into the zen environment for both your sakes.

That being said she definitely is someone who finds comfort in the simple things with you. A nice cup of tea and a cuddle after a long day are exactly what she needs to unwind. Also can she bitch about people please? She needs to have a good vent. The two of you can vent if you need too as long as you listen to her she'll listen to you 100% you're a team.

It's a bonus if tea has some sort of treats with it. It's partner downtime AND treat time. And if you made them? Her heart MELTS. Even if you just bought them she thinks 'My partner did this for me?' Absolutely touched.

So that was the part you indulged her and she has recharged no it's reversal time. Wants to pay you back and help you unwind. She wants to cook you dinner (doesn't mind cooking it together) but loves to spoil you. Likes company when cooking. The talking continues, helps her to unwind honestly.

Is a taster through the process of cooking and loves to ask for you opinion too. 'Hmm I'm not sure, do you think this needs to be more spicy?' Holds the spoon out to you. Still gets warm over the idea of being domestic like this. Cheeks blushy as you taste her cooking. Appreciates your opinion no matter what it is.

Asking for seconds is the way into her heart honestly. The fact you like her food is just ahhhh. Tell her things you like about her food? Will jump you right there and then. Smooches and hugs. All over you. 'I appreciate you so much.' Just being seen makes her feel loved.

Big on bathing with you to unwind. Loves the intimacy of it and just holding and being held by the one she loves. Washing each other and carting her hands through her lovers hair is the dream. Ultimate relaxation until it's not and leads to other things.

Sometimes the path to unwinding with Sakura leads to the ultimated unwind in the bedroom. Towels forgotten on the floor, robes open, hands exploring and kissing so hard that you feel so hot. Maybe the bath should have waited until later.

Shisui Uchiha

Mr active, can't sit still for too long, go go go needs to be coaxed and sometimes bribed into relaxing, honestly. He's just so used always doing something that his mind is like always racing and going so he's following it for the ride. It takes you for a fun ride too.

That being said he does have his exhausted days and mornings where he likes to just cuddle. Cuddley mornings with Shisui aren't all docile and sweet though. Sometimes they're pinches and tickles and giggles.

It's biting your shoulder affectionately and nibbling your ear to get a chuckle out of you and watch you flail about while he holds you tight. It's laughing until your stomach hurts, the blanket long forgotten and kicked to the end of the bed while the sheet twists around each of your limbs.

It's rolling around the bed until one of you (or both if you cling to each other tight enough) falls out of bed. That's when it's time to call it quits. 'Mmm maybe time to get out of bed.' 'I think we just did.' 'Touché.' He kisses (then nips) your nose.

Unwinding in the evening for Shisui I can see being something like watching you prepare dinner. Watching the repetative motions of chopping and mixing just really helps him relax and unwind. But he can't watch for long he has to join in and help.

Not just help out but make it fun too and be an absolute nusance in the process. Flicking the bits of cooked rice that stick to his hands at you when he is put in charge of moulding the rice balls. Attempts to smear the rice vinegar goo on your cheek but you flinch in time with a gasp just as the tip hits your skin.

'Oh this is war!' You declare and he's gone, running around the kitchen in a circle giggling like a child as you chase him with the mayo based sauce. He relents of course and grabs you by the waist. It stops you but not enough as you smear a good goop over his face.

Instead of wiping it off he just smooshes his face against yours and shakes his head gently. The two of you scrunch your noses and laugh. It's a mess but it's fun. And you can taste the sauce on his lips when he kiss you. It's good.

Dinner is almost forgotten as the two of you kiss and kiss. Making out on the kitchen floor. You push him back onto the conveniently placed rug a few feet away and latch yourself onto his neck. He moans, hands coming to pull your waist down against him. Onto him. Mmm this is good.

He laps the remainder of the sauce from your face, his hands exploring up your shirt, fingers splayed over the skin of your back. You push his own shirt up. Kissing down his chest. Down, down further until mm and there's a delicious moan pulled from him as his hands find your hair.

That's when the pot boils over and your remember dinner. Shit. Gotta get up and turn the stove off before you finish.

Neji Hyuga

Mans has spent his whole life chasing that zen but there's always something in the way. There's always something giving him the BIG STRESS lmao. He needs to unwind and you really gotta be the one to help him out before he snaps.

Big on the tea and definitely has his own routine of coming home and drinking a cup just to detox the day. Likes to just have a bit of quiet at first. Has gotten into the habit of making one for you if you're home too, a sweet invitation for you to join him in his bubble. He wants you in his world.

After that he doesn't mind talking. Wants to know about your day, doesn't mind sharing his. Little bits of small talk that lead to the deep intimate talk. Just existing together in a way he never thought he would with another person is intimate for him and it makes him feel so sappy.

Kind of leads him to the physical side of things. Wants the touches and the cuddles. Kind of just falls against you in his PleaseHoldMeSoIKnowThisIsReal Neji way. And you do. It's cuddle time. Sometimes that's all it is. Just cuddles and gentle affirmations.

Other times it's a little more. It leads to kissing. Soft at first. Just gentle reminders that the two of you love each other and aren't going anywhere. But when they deepen. There's a fierceness in them a spark ignites and suddenly he's back against the couch and you're on top of him.

It's almost like your down right ready to devour him. You're kissing his jaw, his neck and he is moaning your name. His hands are in your hair. You both want more. Need more. Crave more.

It leads to more sometimes. Other times it's just a quick burst of passion and nothing more.

Afterwards the two of you continue the night together. A little closer than before. Cooking dinner with extra touches than necessary. Stealing extra kisses between prep steps. Grazing touches as you pass the utensils at the table.

There's no way you can shower alone after that. Everything in an evening like this remains close and together. Right up until the moment the two of you fall asleep in bed, limbs wrapped around each other. Completely content and taken by each others presence.

Your book makes no mention of our prior meeting. Daniel: Gritty memoir, drugs, humiliation, self-pity kind of thing. Mention vampires in one of those, readers tend to call bulls***. You've got your own hangar at the airport, privileges on the Royal Meydan Bridge, and zero presence online. I know the Emirates are big on privacy, and that's probably important to you, but I gotta ask: what does it cost, this haven't-aged-in-half-a-century, killer views in all directions anonymity? Louis: Quite a lot. I have to be very careful whom I let in. Daniel: Yeah, well, things didn't end well the last time, so forgive me if I'm a little nervous! Louis: Back in San Francisco, you said, and I paraphrase, "Give it to me. Make me a vampire now." Daniel: In the eyes of a 20-year-old, you were wasting the gift. Louis: You're in your 20s, Rashid. My contribution to @iwtvfanevents' Vampterview rewatch of IWTV Season 1! \(^0^)/ I basically rebuilt Loumand's Dubai Penthouse from scratch, cuz in my other post it was on the same lot as Loustat's 1132 townhouse. 🤭 And I decided to remake my Daniel & Rashid/Armand sims, cuz I was too lazy to crack open my old saves and save a copy of them to my bin. So...yeah, "a do-over," in Daniel's words. XD

I just love thinking about Louis' strange life as a billionaire mogul, and how AMC's nodding to the life he had with Armand in Miami & NYC in the books, and the life he now has with "Rashid" in Dubai. I have many suspicions about what went down to bring Loumand to Dubai, and where in the books' timeline we even are. I need answers, Rolin!!!!

I got you on the That 70s show request, so Eddie and Reader as Jackie and Hyde (loves of my life): Eddie teaching reader how to handle antagonization like Hyde taught Jackie how to be Zen when Laurie was being a bitch. Bonus points if Reader jumps a girl like Jackie kicked Laurie’s ass after all that training on how to not let someone get to them lol orrrr the wedding prep stuff, Nancy has Reader take Jonathan along to get the silverware/tux/etc for their wedding as a punishment even though Eddie told Reader she’s not allowed to even think about weddings since she’s been trying to plan theirs since they got together

High school was a nightmare, and that was no exaggeration.

Each day was a battle for survival, in which you had to be on the constant lookout for your predator— Charlene Fenwick, head children and head Bitch Royale. For some unexplainable reason, she had chosen you to torture this year, which led you to avoid the most common spaces in the building like the plague. You had not been seen in the cafeteria for the past three weeks. Not after Charlene had spilt her water bottle, which most definitely did not contain water, all over your head.

You were just grabbing a book out of your locker when you heard her shriek of a giggle. ‘There you are.’

Each night you would lay awake imagining all the things you wanted to tell her, but then when the moment came, and you would freeze, letting her stomp all over you like a bug. You quickly shut your locker before she got the chance to look inside. There was no need to give her any more fuel for her constant pestering.

‘Nice jacket,’ she smacked her bubblegum between words. ‘Was there a sale at the dump or something?’

There wasn’t anything wrong with your army jacket. You had spent the summer finding the best patches to stitch onto it, and were actually really happy with how it turned out. Trying your best to ignore the nasty comments, you avoided Charlene’s eyes at all times. There was no point in fighting it, and trying to comment back would just spur her on even more to continue, the sadistic bitch. And yet, you couldn’t be silenced.

‘Do you really not have anything better to do, Charlene?’ you said out loud, already feeling your body run down in cold sweat of fear. She most definitely heard you, and there was no decent reaction that could result from that.

‘Whatever, loser.’ She suddenly smiled and smacked your books out of your hands. A chorus of laughter erupted from behind her as you bent down to pick them up, muttering curses as they walked away.

‘You shouldn’t let her get to you like that,’ a much friendlier voice spoke. You looked up to see Eddie sit down on the ground next to you and pick up the loose papers that fell out of your history book.

‘Not everyone can be Mr Cool Devil Worshipper, you know,’ you rolled your eyes as he handed you the rest of your things.

‘I’m flattered,’ he helped you get up as well, ‘but I mean it. You got to let it slide. She wants you to lower down to her level.’

‘So what should I do then?’

‘Stand up for yourself,’ he stated as if it was the easiest thing in the world. All you could do was scoff.

‘I’ve been trying to do that for the past month.’

‘No, I’ve seen you try. Not like that. That was quite sad. What you got to do is show her you’re better than her– and don’t even try to tell me that you’re not.’ He shut you up before you could even try and say something.

‘Again, I’m not you, Munson. I don’t know how to all– well, like you.’

‘What can I say,’ he leaned against the wall of lockers, ‘it’s an art.’ the comment received another eye-roll from you. ‘But like any art, it can be taught. I can help you, if you want?’

‘How?’

‘No idea. Meet me at the picnic tables after school. We’ll just try and see.’ And that was that. The bell rang, and the two of you were off to your respective classes. There were still two more periods between you and seeing Eddie again. As one of your best (and only) friends, he probably thought he needed to help you, but it was still appreciated. You walked up to the picnic tables only a few minutes before him. The sun was shining from between the thick layers of leaves.

‘Alright, then.’ He sat down opposite you at the table. Throwing his vest and jacket on the seat next to him. ‘I had all of sixth period to think about you– your problem. You have to show you don’t care. Let her words literally fall like water of a duck’s back. See right through her. That’s how you’ll get under her skin.’

‘You have a real way of making things sound really easy, Munchie.’

‘You calling me easy?’ He raised an eyebrow.

‘No! No, I just meant–’ you noticed the small smile he was giving you. ‘Oh, fuck off.’ You laughed.

‘I was going to say you were right, but we’d be going off track here.’

‘Ok, sooo… how do I get under her skin?’ You ask, eager to learn his tricks. Everyone at school knew how much shit Eddie got from the jocks– especially Jason– but what was even more noticeable how little that seemed to affect him. Most days, he was seen taunting his bullies right back. Although, that might come hand-in-hand with his reputation as the local spawn of satan. You weren’t so lucky.

All Eddie did, however, to answer your question, was shrug.

‘Should I say something to her?’

‘That’s cool.’ What the–

‘Do I do go to the principal?’

‘Whatever.’

‘Oh, c’mon, Munson, this is really not funny.’

‘No, that was your first lesson.’ He said, leaning back (and almost falling backwards off the bench).

‘I don’t understand.’

‘Noticed how annoyed you got when I dismissed everything you said? Imagine if you were really trying to get to me personally. It will drive Charlene insane.’

‘That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.’ So stupid, it might just work, but you weren’t going to admit that to Eddie. There was no need to boost his ego like that… just yet.

‘You try it then.’ He gave you the stage with open arms.

‘What?’ You were so confused.

‘–Ever. Whatever. It works better with both syllables.’

‘Whatever.’ You repeated, but with much more hesitance and none of that aloofness that Eddie had conveyed. He made you repeat it, over and over again. Until you were inches away from insanity. The word started to feel foreign on your tongue, losing all its meaning.

‘This is dumb. I can’t do it.’ You just had to accept that you would never be able to stop Charlene from torturing you.

‘Last time I checked, I hadn’t raised a quitter. I believe in you and that you can kick that cheerleader’s ass… maybe not physically; cheerleaders are crazy strong, but for sure mentally. Send her packing to Pennhurst.

‘You’re just overthinking it. Let it all go. Here,’ he took you by the hand, ‘Shake all that shit off,’ and he shook your arm. You couldn’t help but laugh, which, in turn, cracked a smile on his face. ‘Be casual and ambiguous and don’t let anyone walk over you ever again.’

‘Whatever,’ you shrugged.

‘Atta girl.’ Eddie squeezed your hand. ‘Tomorrow you’re eating lunch with Hellfire.’

The smile disappeared off your face. ‘I don’t know…’

‘No, you got to face your bubblegum-popping, perm-wearing demons. Show her whose the fucking boss. Don’t run away.’

He really gave you very little choice. So, the next day, clutching your backpack, too nervous to eat, you sat down at the Hellfire table. As everyone else got into a conversation, you tried to join in, but all you could focus on were the entrance doors. Every few seconds, you caught yourself looking up to see who was walking in. Charlene would be here any minute; you were sure of it.

Eddie grabbed your hand under the table. ‘Relax.’

‘I’m trying–’

‘Oh isn’t this cute!’ Charlene’s voice boomed over everyone else. People around you started looking. Even though you were looking down at the magazine Eddie had handed you earlier (“Whatever you do, do not look at her. Ignore her.”), you could tell all her words were directed at you. She didn’t care about the guys. They had become immune to bullies years ago. She knew you were the weak one in the pack, and she was going in for the kill.

‘How nice of them to let you join in, y/n. I would have thought there was no hope for you anywhere.’

‘Whatever.’ You flipped the page of the magazine, hoping she couldn’t see how much your hand was shaking. From the corner of your eye, you could see Eddie’s lip turn up in a smirk. On the other side, Charlene crossed her arms and straightened her posture– trying to look bigger and more intimidating.

‘Still wearing that barf bag of a jacket, I see.’

‘That’s cool.’

‘Just piss off, Charlene.’ Eddie was getting tired of her bullshit.

‘Getting your boyfriend to stand up for you? How mature.’

‘Whatever.’ You and Eddie both said at the same time. That was really the last straw for her.

‘Well, I’m happy you losers found each other. Just wish you would have told me earlier, I would have brought some snacks for the freakshow.’

You weren’t sure why those exact words hit you harder than usual. Perhaps because she was insulting your friends, but everything turned black. You could just about hear yourself say “Enough” as you stood up. The next thing you knew, someone was pulling you of off Charlene. Your arms and face stung, and Charlene was on the ground, eyes wide with shock.

It was difficult to explain the principal why you and the head cheerleader had matching cut and bruised lips, but one good thing came out of being send to his office.

They always made you wait out three, no matter if you were waiting for a good or bad reason. So, as you sat in the small chair, ice pack against your face, Eddie popped up in the window facing the hallway.

‘Hey there Rocky.’ He had the biggest smile on his face.

‘Very funny.’ You closed your eyes, ashamed of what you had done, but mostly sad at how little you had taken from what Eddie tried to teach you. His zen strategies lasted all of five seconds. ‘What do you want?’

‘I wanted to apologise.’

‘What for?’

‘For totally underestimating you. Charlene had nothing on you.’ He mimicked a punch motion. ‘You were– incredible.’ as kind as his words were, they didn’t make you feel better. ‘But Charlene also made me think of something.’

‘Do share.’

‘I actually kind of liked her calling me your boyfriend, so, I was just wondering, would you maybe like to go out sometimes?’ He seemed strangely awkward asking this question, very unlike himself. But you knew the perfect response to his question.

‘That’s cool.’

'Whatever,' Eddie smirked as he walked away. 'I'll pick you up at 8.'
