Pageant princess Naruto!!!!

Oddly enough, Kakashi is both the most extreme Pagent mom (will call in bomb threats, pull fire alarms, a fuck with the other moms) and the most chill (he’s a troll at heart, not attempting to live vicariously through his kid).

That being said Naruto doesn’t even need Kakashi’s help to win these things. He’s stacking trophies and prize money like it’s going out of style. He was the baby crawling Champion for his whole career, these dance routines were nothing.

Concept: Naruto on dance moms lmao

Through a fantastic loophole (never once in the local pageant rules did it say only girls could compete and or that any boys competing couldn’t wear a dress) Naruto is entered into the same pageant as Ino and Sakura and beats them both with ease starting a years long rivalry as they all battle for the title of Leaf Princess.

KAKASHI WOULD EAT AN ABBY LEE CLONE ALIVE OKAY

That being said Kakashi would go to every dance class and watch because he knows Naruto would love to see him/ he had always wanted a dad who watched him compete in the things he loved and since he didn’t get it he’s making sure his kid does. he gets so into it with the other moms. Drama galore because he is an instigator.

Say what you will about the accuracy of their scaling but vsbattles wiki is brilliant entertainment. Getting to watch people argue about how "a single Ben 10 universe is 2-A" "no it's 2-B", "Alien X is 1-C" or the fact that Thunder McQueen's is banned from matches against people above him in ap due to basically always being inconclusive is great.

Do you, or anyone actually, know where/when the '-bowl' sufix started being used in Fandom? Because I can't find any kind of origin, and surprisingly Fanlore doesn't have a article about it (as far as I checked maybe I didn't search well?). I just found and know that it's used for kinda old and relatively new fandoms, thanks to a two-year-old Reddit post.

For anyone who doesn't get/know about the '-bowl' sufix: is basically an All × One thing. For example, if you encounter 'Dekubowl' this means that Deku, the character, is shipped with everyone or that at least everyone else have a crush with Deku.

I can only think of the 'Super Bowl' (just as one comment in that Reddit post suggest) for its origin, but when we talk about Fandom culture we never know. It could have originated from anything no-related to the Super Bowl, LOL.

Ooh, interesting. I've never heard of this in my life, and I have no idea what a -bowl suffix is supposed to mean, even if I guess it has to do with the super bowl.

It's not surprising Fanlore doesn't have this if it's coming from BNHA or somewhere similar. Fanlore is fantastic on the history of Western "Media Fandom", zines, K/S, etc. It's much weaker in areas that OTW early adopters haven't spent as much time in.

You should write the -bowl article yourself!

I went into AO3's tag search and looked for 'bowl'. I found 1311 tags, 90 of them canonicals.

I'm seeing a ton of references to the Super Bowl, dust bowl AUs, pet play with pet food bowls, Dream in the fishbowl, unending uses like "I'm crying into my bowl of cereal as I write this", "bowl of honey nut feelios", "bowl of pornflakes", "me shaking the food bowl of sbi wilbur-centric angst: come get y'all's juice", etc., and plenty of references to YOI katusdon bowls. Lots of fandoms and episodes have 'bowl' in their titles.

Zeroing in on more related things, I'm seeing BNHA over and over and not much else...

EXCEPT!

Fruit bowls!

I see scattered references to "let's add him into that whole fruit bowl" and "the whole fruit bowl is here" and so on. Some of them are crack fic where everyone is a banana, but a lot of them seem to be a metaphor for "everything together".

Okay, I just spent far too much time trying to categorize tags. Out of the 'bowl' ones, about a third appear to be this kind of sense (counting by number of tags, not number of works).

Game of Thrones has a bunch, but they refer (as far as I know) to which characters will hypothetically kill each other and emerge victorious, not to group shipping.

Some tags I found, like 'edelbowl' sounded more like a group ship than an X/everyone. I also found a scattering of tags that were like 'all of them in a bowl together', which is probably related.

But mainly, what I found is that this is from BNHA and it's recent.

The other fandoms where I found it were:

Demon Slayer, Dr. STONE, Naruto, South Park, Fire Emblem, Genshin, HP, Lego Ninjago, My Next Life as a Villainess, She-Ra, Teen Wolf, Tower of God, VLD, A3! That's giving me a very distinctive picture of a fan who's probably in their 20s or 30s, mostly like anime and some video games, and is not the type that edits Fanlore.

There's nothing actually old here: it's recent anime and stuff that is still a megafandom, like Naruto.

I'm seeing a scattering of 'dekubowl' from 2017 and then other character tags taking off in like 2019. This is definitely a recent trend in terminology, at least on AO3.

Akira Toryiyama passed away at the young age of 68. This is so tragically sad. This man was a legend. Without his works, especially the juggernaut of Dragon Ball, there is no modern Shonen manga or even some of our beloved cartoons. Without Dragon Ball, there is no Avatar the Last Airbender, Power Puff Girls, Ben 10, and so many others. I can't even explain how great this loss is to modern pop culture.

All of our favourite anime and manga are influenced by Toriyama's works. One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, and so many more. Any battle Shonen from 1990 onwards is influenced by him. Even today we see the impact in his work from series coming out in the past 2 years still! The list is endless. I don't even think people know how deep his roots lie. Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger. His fingers were in many pies but it was clear that he never lost his child-like wonderment on joy and fun.

Toriyama had amazing characters and stories that will last forever. He changed how manga is drawn and how action scenes are perceived. Look at JoJo, Saint Seiya, and Fist of the North Star vs. Dragon Ball's action scenes. They're clean and easy to follow. He reimagined how comics were drawn. Goku may be a big buff dude now, but he was a squishy lil' guy in the first of the series, changing how modern protagonists were created. And it was fun! Dragon Ball was always fun! And even when DBZ got serious, it always managed to find a way to bring a smile to your face. Super Saiyan screaming, quotes of OVER 9000, kids pretending to fight one another, endless and endless playtimes based on Dragon Ball Z fights. These are the things that I will remember. These things will hopefully never be lost. I still remember losing my mind when Gohan went Beast Mode, at 27 years old. He always knew how to get you excited, no matter what.

I'll miss him a lot. A humble man who smiled during an interview talking about the horrible working conditions at the time of his publication. A man who continued to create new stories for people of all ages to enjoy. Rest easy, Legend. Your stories will live on forever. I will be forever grateful for what you gave to us.

OMORI - Voice Actor Headcanons.

While I haven’t exactly finished this game yet, I am close enough to the end and have met basically all the characters, so I think it’s time I got around to doing my good ol’ series of VA headcanons for a game that either doesn’t have one, or doesn’t have an English Dub.

This time we’re doing Omori, a game I started playing at the beginning of this year and have fallen in love with very very quickly. I’ve been through a very painful time of my life recently and this game helped me work through it letting me know that it doesn’t matter how I grieve, just that any way I can is correct.

And the way the characters work together in the game is also incredible, and I was eagerly awaiting to get to the point that I’m at so I could do a VA headcanons section for this. So before we get started, let me once again go two things.

Notes:

1.) Characters are listed below the cut because there’s a ridiculous amount of them.

2.) This is going to be a 128 person showdown. Because of this there are going to be a few adjustments from how we normally do our polls. First- not all characters will have character descriptions, because we have neither the time or inclination to do so. There still will be character images along with image descriptions, but that’s about it. Second- because of how many polls this is, the first round will be released in waves of 16 polls per day over the span of 4 days. The other rounds will not be impacted. Looking for an RP partner

So... lately I have been having an itch to write/RP... it's been years since I last wrote anything substantial... but I want to hop back onto the "bicycle" so to speak, so here's to some self advertising and info about myself.

Before you proceed, keep in mind I'm 29NB and any future partners willing to RP with me MUST be 21+. I would prefer it if they were 25+ as it would mean they are closer to my age, but I'm not going to be nit picky about the age range as long as they are 21 years old.

I have some RP experience both in tumblr and discord, but as I previously stated, it's been years. I also written a fic here and there, years ago.

My replies tend to vary from one liner sentences to multiple paragraphs in one go or in-between depending on my creative juices. You don't need to match my length (if I get crazy and reply you in one too many multiple paragraphs) if the creative juices aren't flowing.

I am looking for a casual partner, someone who feels comfortable with me and vice versa. Someone who wants to have fin with me and making up stories for our favorite characters/ships.

Also very important for me, communication is key. Specially before starting a RP and during. We have to know each other's squicks, hard no's and anything that could be potentially triggering to either one of us.

I am very open minded and I am willing to RP almost anything for example: smut, GL, BL, HET, dark stuff, violence, gore, bdsm, a/b/o, mpreg/fpreg....etc. Thinking about it, I might just RP about anything as long as it's talked to beforehand, there might be some instances where I might say no, depending on the characters and the story being written. (I'm saying like if the situations call for it I might bre willing to write vore, which I personally don't like)

I shall only RP in discord and discord only. It's easier and cleaner. I ain't going back to tumbr RPing, unless I get begged to go back to that mess. I don't wan't create a character tumblr blog ever again, or do I?

I am an ever loving multi-shipper and love many ships, however I do have my OTPs.

I don't mind doing RP with OCs, whether they be OC x OC, or MC x OC. I do have some OCs that live mostly in my head. (I might share them one day to the world, maybe, maybe not.)

And now... it is time to put down the list of some of the fandoms I am willing to RP and the characters (muses) I am comfortable to RP as and some of the ships that go with it. (Bold means I feel way more comfortable than usual writing for the character, don't know why, some characters just sing to my soul I guess?) Spoilers for: Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Steel Ball Run Chapter 7

I think you should have checked about the mileage before you decided to enter into the race. I'm actually shocked that these guys lasted as long as they did tbh. Engine optimization was not a thing back then.

I like how these guys knew when to back out of the competition. Know when to quit is just as important as the determination to keep going. Good on these guys.

Very irrelevant, but I love her outfit. The lavender like colour goes so well with the blue(hopefully cuffed!! i can't really tell) pants. I love the gloves, especially!!!

The female rep was great until they sexualised her. That part was really upsetting.

This looks like something Veronica from Archie would wear. I want to see this outfit in the Archie comic style. I think it would pretty good.

Why didn't the habitual burglar put on a disguise? I mean, the guy didn't even shave??

It's Sandman!!! He is actually running. I hope he doesn't get hurt. The way he is moving reminds me of Spiderman. Go boi Go!!!

I love how they show the depth of the cliff. It makes his skills all the more impressive.

Poor horsey, the recoil force must have hurt really badly. I hope all the horses get fed sugar cubes and apples and whatever they like. They deserve it.

We stan healthy competition here!!!

Sandman reminds me of Wammu from Battle Tendency. They respect the opposition and encourage them (unlike Diego and Kars). It's refreshing to see.

This panel reminds me of Naruto and Sasuke and how Naruto wanted Sasuke's respect without knowing he earned it already.

I have a feeling that Gyro already respects Johnny in his own way, and Johnny just doesn't know it.

I know it's a shortcut, but why are you going into the spiny looking forest???

Good reflexes? Spiny ball magic? Or Hammon? I'm not sure. Can Gyro use Hammon? I hope so. It would be so cool. I miss Hammon. The stands are very cool but..Hammon.

reiterating this poll is for fun, and while I’ll try to keep it organized, I am not going out of my way to make a tumblr poll bracket I’m doing in my free time 100% bias-free or 100% optimized.

I reserve the right to add or remove ships to the initial bracket at my discretion, or to not answer all asks, or whatever else makes it more fun, short of actually changing results (I will let the people decide.) basically, if you have a problem with something about the way this competition is run, I don’t care.

I feel like this should go without saying but I do ascribe to the idea that some ships are inherently morally bad and deserve to be hated. Who are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite characters of all time, from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series, etc)? Can I ask why you love them?

Again, I have no idea whether these are my faves of all time, but I’m going to just pick some characters I like and can think of right now. Let’s just limit this to anime/manga and video games (JRPGs specifically) or else the list would be all characters from books only. I wish there were more female characters on here but you know how it is with media—female characters get the short end of the stick unless a woman was behind it.

Joshua Kiryu (The World Ends with You): Basically gay Jesus of the world of The World of Ends with You. A complicated guy, always scheming in the background. Really compelling character. I was upset he only makes a cameo appearance in the sequel to the game.

Kuroko Tetsuya (Kuroko no Basket): He lacks standard shonen hero personality—his trademark is being calm, quiet, aloof, and polite—but he’s the main character of Kuroko’s Basketball anyway. Kuroko is proof that you don’t need to be Knockoff Naruto to bring people around you, and I love that.

Miyuki Kazuya (Daiya no Ace): If there’s a Daiya fan that doesn’t like Miyuki, I’d be surprised.

Jolyne Kujo (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Pt. 6 Stone Ocean): If you aren’t familiar with JoJo, it’s divided into 9 different parts, each one of which is pretty much entirely distinct from the others. I have been following JoJo for way too long (since ~2012-2013-ish?), and I’m pretty sure I will be a huge fan for the rest of my life. Jolyne is the MC of JJBA’s 6th part, Stone Ocean. Amazingly well-written female protaogonist of a shonen series.

Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender): He has no bending powers, but he keeps everyone together. That’s his superpower. I love that.

Shimogamo Yasaburo (The Eccentric Family): the trickster hero of The Eccentric Family. I love the work of novelist Tomihiko Morimi (this anime was adapted from one of his novels), and The Eccentric Family is about a family of tanuki living in Kyoto. Yasaburo is the 3rd of 4 sons. Through Yasaburo’s eyes, you can get a feel for tanuki cultures and customs, and he’s just a little shit.

Kong Wenge (Ping Pong: The Animation): Ping Pong is my favorite anime of all time, and Kong is my favorite character in Ping Pong. His arc is so good—going from resentful that he was forced to move to Japan for high school because competition in Chinese Ping Pong is insane to coming to terms with the fact that he’s going to be stuck in Japan, to eventually naturalizing as a Japanese citizen to play for Japan as an adult and taking the name of his high school that changed his life as his last name upon naturalization.

Luck Gandor (Baccano): Baccano is another one of my favorite anime, and Luck is my favorite character. I love schemer types like Luck.

Laurent Thierry (The Great Pretender): I’m pretty sure Netflix created The Great Pretender just to target me because it has everything I like in anime. The final arc is kind of fucked up in a real-world "oh god something similar to what these terrible human beings are doing is actually happening somewhere" kind of way, but it's overall a great show. Laurent is such an asshole. He’s definitely not a good person, but I have a weakness for asshole characters.

Gojo Satoru (Jujutsu Kaisen): He’s the lesbian favorite because we collectively love to make fun of him. Enough said.

So in your top ten favourite characters, yuji is the only protagonist in the list which is not surprising but I'm very surprised that you like yuji so much to include him. Why do you like him so much compared to other protagonists and apart from him if you have to choose other protagonists, who would they be? You don't have to answer this of course. Thanks!

Well, there's also Marie-Joseph on the list, who's the protagonist of Innocent Rouge, but it is true that I have an easier time liking antagonists than protagonists. I don't have a problem with animanga protags in general, many just don't make my top 10. For example, Johnny is my favourite Jojo and I also like Emma and Norman from Promised Neverland.

I think what I generally look for in a protagonist is that they feel realistic, their ideals are meaningfully challenged and they are actually allowed to struggle. I also prefer a motivation that goes beyond "I want to be the best" or if they want to be the wizard king/Hokage/pirate king/mafia boss/#1 hero I need a good reason for that and what they want to do with that position besides power fantasy. That's why all the mc striving for the titles I just listed fall off for me.

Antagonists are a lot easier to like because they usually already highlight flaws of a system or person, or they are used to push personal characteristics to the extreme (like mad scientists with strife for knowledge and scientific progress). Usually their actions are meant to be criticised, so you don't have the problem with the author brushing over inconsistencies and flaws for the sake of elevating the mc.

Innocent (Rouge) did that really well. The story starts out with Charles-Henri as the protagonist. He wants to end the monarchy, end the bloody business of execution that forces his family to live as outcasts and also wants to live out his gnc side freely. But ultimately he fails and becomes like the people he swore to oppose, even continuing the circle of abuse from his father to his own children. That's when Marie-Joseph steps up in Innocent Rouge. She has similar ideals as Charles used to have, but thinks even further and has the strength to push for the change she wants to see. Charles becomes one of her antagonists because he thinks if he couldn't succeed, she should be forced to conform to society as well. All that highlights in my opinion what makes for a good protagonist. Fights for what they believe in, but are still challenged and forced to struggle (the more the better), and have a meaningful connection to the antagonist(s). If you want to know how not to do it, just look at Naruto and especially the confrontation between Naruto & Nagato.

What I like specifically about Yuuji is that he starts out more or less like any shonen mc (friendly, bit hyperactive, naive), but we see how he is shaped by the cruel world around him. He is surrounded by death and we see how it breaks his spirit multiple times, but he still pushes on, even if it means fighting for his right to die. He just feels very realistic. Despite his supernatural abilities, his reactions to such a harsh reality are very natural and he isn't blind to what is happening around him (even if he sometimes wants to deliberately ignore it). He also doesn't have any big aspirations of changing the jujutsu system or becoming the strongest just for the sake of power. What he wants - a proper death - is instead very personal and quite tragic for someone so young. It makes sense that a teenager who has only operated in jujutsu society for around half a year, wouldn't have such high aspirations. He barely understands the system works under, so he leaves the changing of society to people who actually know it. So far he also had his cog mentality, which let him reduce himself to a puppet, but he will now be forced to rethink that.

Btw, this is part of why I think Geto and Yuuta are mismatched in Vol 0. Geto's actions are entirely based on critique of jujutsu society, while Yuuta has only interacted with it for around 1 year. He says non-sorcerers should be wiped out to elevate sorcerers and give them peace, and all Yuuta has to say to that is "idk you might be right, but you're killing my friends so you have to die". I don't blame Yuuta for that, at that point he wasn't in a position to critically analyse what Geto was saying because he lacks the experience, but then don't set him up against an ideologically-driven villain if you can't present a counterargument that isn't based on "killing friends bad". Not to mention that we the readers barely know anything about jujutsu society at that point and even less about how non-sorcerers factor into it. So while genocide is of course bad, we don't even know if Geto's general idea makes sense in-universe (it doesn't). Gojo says Geto's ideology is bad, but we never find out why in that volume.

Yuuji fits into his story much smoother and doesn't try to be more than he is. Even though Kenjaku is overthrowing the system, the way Yuuji is set up against them is very personal and in line with his character.

I’m not really up to date in my knowledge of ants. I think most soldiers are usually diploid females (two copies of their genomes like us : thanks mom and dad) like with bees, males are usually haploid.

Most chimera ants appear male and are apparently able to reproduce like the King so by insemination. That role is typically male but not always like in at least one species of mosquitos where female have an appendage that penetrates the male and basically absorbs the semen.

Anyway CA might have some complications due to foreign genetic interference and horizontal transfers might be the reason most of its species workers are male. maybe sometimes it fucks up and you get females or maybe they just appear to have female characteristics of other species.

Most ants should have intersex variations to considering they also have interspecies variations like Leol here who is a mix of a tiger and a lion. In his case sex determination should be quite complementary between different mammals from the same family. Maybe not
