#People may hate on the all-caste for not being Jason enough or whatever

Random Jason Hijinks I either wish would happen someday or find amusing to think about.
Rose and Jason break Eddie out of hell and steal his soul back from Neron. Jaime is dragged along by Rose because he and Eddie were “friends a few reboots ago”. Jason asked Roy who sent him Connor who is suffering™.
Pre-Red Hood Jason and Pre-Green Arrow Connor first meet up back when Jason was part of the All-Caste hunting a demon. It’s a one-shot adventure and the things you have to know are:
a) this is before Jason’s growth spurt so he’s over a head shorter than Connor.
b) Connor isn’t a cape so excuse him for not understanding demons and fucking up hilariously a few times.
c) When Jason tries to kill the demon who is possessing the human, he and Connor fight about it. The fight ends when the demon explodes out of the person like the Pus of Man from Dark Souls 3.
d) Talia is the one who finds and picks up Jason from the adventure (Connor thinks she’s his mom and Jason just didn’t inherit the melanin) and is also the one who gives Connor contact information for Jason because she wants him to have some sort of friend.
e) They never actually learned the other’s name so anytime they’d hear about Red Hood or Green Arrow they literally don’t know it’s that guy they met as teenagers.
Jason decides to actually dust off his mystic training when Dick walks in and Jason gets hit with so many bad vibes he’s genuinely worried something is wrong with Dick.
Jason: “Did they not fix the Brother Blood mind control thing fully? Did Raven miss something? Isn’t Dick friends with a million people? How have they all missed this????”
It ends with bringing Danny Chase back to life and the only person remotely happy about it is Jason and even that’s a stretch.
Rose, why are you part of the Wild Hunt?!!!
What do you mean Biz got taken by the fae?!
Roy, why is this werewolf saying he’s your husband?!
Eddie, why didn’t you tell me you were a prince of hell? What do you mean that one of Trigon’s sons is buried in Gotham?!!! No wait, you still haven’t told me how you’re a prince of hell!
Jason and Talia's road trip where Jason comes to the uncomfortable realization that he views Talia as a mother/aunt figure.
Bonus Artemis suffering Jason’s Mom Has it Going On.
Jason gets a new dog named Ellie and he loves her and Dog very much. What do you mean she’s a Blue Lantern!?
Ellie is short for Elpis and she’s absolutely Hope Corgi.
Roy finds out that he has a whole-ass checking account under one of his aliases that he never knew about. Turns out Jason created it for him years ago and Roy’s actually under W.E.  employed as an independent contractor and he’s been making 6 figures for years because Jason never bothered telling anyone that he still owns Wayne R&D.
Jason slowly but surely claims Park Row and the surrounding areas as his territory. It has the unforeseen consequence of magical folk moving into the neighborhood because Gotham is a nightmare to live in normally, Magic Gotham is even worse and the only people who can survive are big hitters like Blood, Zatanna, and Ivy or small fries like the kitchen witch near Leslie’s. Welcome to the big leagues, Jason.
Jason keeps getting mistaken for Jason Blood and it is annoying. One day some demon hunters threw something at Jason and did anyone know Jason used to be in heaven because he sure didn’t and these angel wings are a fucking nightmare.
Rose busts a gut laughing because she somehow became friends with the least demon-y demon Eddie and Jason as an angel.
Jason, Ivy, Sideways, and Impulse (Impulse voice: “Why am I even here?”) vs the Madness Wavelength in Arkham.
Jason kills Joker and finds out that he cannot. Not as in “He doesn’t die” or “There will be a new one” but a secret third option, “The universe literally resets the day every time he’s killed.” Instead of being a tragedy, it becomes a comedy as killing Joker slowly becomes Jason’s go-to when shit goes wrong/killing him is good stress relief. Stephanie discovers what happens because she’s had to write the same essay nine times once. Instead of being horrified they (and then Helena, Tim, Duke, etc.) make killing Joker a gag. The only ones not allowed to kill the Joker are Dick and Bruce because then the universe decides it’s the bad timeline instead of just resetting again.
Tim: *drops his latte on a hot guy and then embarrasses himself in public trying to apologize and becomes a meme.*
Tim: I guess I have to kill Joker now.
Jason and Kory remeeting and wow it’s really awkward that we only got close because of a universe meddler and then you dipped and never contacted me again even though I was a hundred percent serious that you were one of my first friends and are very important to me.
Oh no. Not the talking. Not communication! Kory take mercy on me and just drop me like a bad memory don’t have us open a dialogue where we reconcile all of the bullshit that happened to us and the fact that we did genuinely get close at very low points in our lives and be willing to try and be friends again!
Give! Kory! All! The! Friends! She doesn’t care if you think it’s a bad idea, it's her life!
Gotham Vigilante Tabletop Club (GVTC) featuring Jason, Tim, Stephanie, Duke, Helena, and Harper. They each get a turn as dm and every one of them brings in a different game.
Why is Damian’s friend (Colin) asking me for love advice? I’m a gay disaster ask anyone else please. ??? I guess I can try to help??? Who’s your crush?
It’s Lian and Jason regrets agreeing to help because Roy is going to murder him.
Countdown 2 Electric Boogaloo. Except for this time they were all shoved into the dimension separately and by separate events and there is no danger. It is just a multiversal road trip with the people who vexed you greatly but are slightly grown up now.
Bonus scene includes Jason’s gleeful face when he realizes he understands what all of those words Donna keeps muttering under her breath mean because Artemis was a bro and taught him Themysciran Greek.
#I didn't mean for all of them to sound like comedies but sometimes that just happens#People may hate on the all-caste for not being Jason enough or whatever#But have we ever stopped to think that Damian is related to an immortal cult and Duke is the son of an eldritch being#And Dick is related to an unrelated cult and just all the weird shit that happens in Gotham anyways?#Why can all these exist and Jason not also have mystic monk training he never uses#Listen I don't know much about Gotham's magic population but I'm pretty sure the place is awful to live in with the nine different curses#So having a dude that's basically a mage-killer claim a territory can only be a good thing for their safety#Plus I'm positive that magic folk would keep property values low because who would go looking for magic users in Park Row#Everyone was written terribly for rhato but Jason and Kory had the potential to be a really interesting relationship#Just this lack of judgement and ability to not have to shave down all of your sharp edges for one another#also I do really like the idea of them trying romance or sex and then deciding that they need friends more and then staying friends#Gotham Vigilante Tabletop Club my beloved#Look Duke and Tim canonically play tabletop games and if dc would finally acknowledge that Stephanie and Jason are nerds they would too#I miss Colin and the idea of him and Jason being disaster siblings or disaster guardian-child is important to me#I don't know if it's canon but considering linguistic drift Themyscira should either have its own language or dialect#and Donna should use it to say mean things under her breath#Jason Todd#I am not tagging anyone else their tags deserve to be Bat-Free#oh boy do I love how I can't make indents in even in html. Sorry for the eyesore whoever reads this mess

I would like to know what a slasher relationship would be like with a hybrid fem witch/vampire. Sorry if it makes no sense, English is not my main language
Slashers with a Feminine Witch & Vampire Hybrid
A/N: This a great Spooky Season Request!
Tumblr media
Freddy Krueger
He thinks it's hot, of course
Wants you to bite him just for the hell of it
His blood doesn't taste very good though (he's dead) so he tries to make up for it in other ways
Always brings home a body for you
But if that's not really your style, he'll happily come back with a jug of blood instead
Wants to see the types of spells you can cast
He turns it into a competition sometimes
You both go back and forth using your powers to change things around
Secretly wants you to use your powers on his victims with him during his murder sprees
If you enjoy feeding on bodies, he wants to be there to watch
Everything about it turns him on to be honest
Tumblr media
Michael Myers
Probably the most neutral of the slashers
He kinda just lets you do your own thing for a while
Is not too sure about you feeding off of him at first, but he secretly loves it now
He thinks your spells are pretty cool too, but he just doesn't show it much
Will definitely take advantage of your powers though if he is having trouble with a victim
He hates asking though since he very much wants to do everything himself
You insist on healing him whenever he is injured even against his objections
As long as you don't intervene too much with his killings, he lets you do whatever for the most part
Just don't kill his target first
Tumblr media
Jason Voorhees
Will definitely supply you with enough blood to last a lifetime
He's very giving with everything
You're hungry? He's sure he can find a lost soul in the woods
Need a certain plant for a spell? He'll keep an eye out for it while he wanders around
Likes to sit with you while you learn new spells and listen to you explain everything you're doing
Honestly, you being a hybrid makes him feel more comfortable
He knows that you can take care of yourself while he's gone
And you living within nature where people and animals pass through is perfect
Unlimited food and seclusion to work on your magic is exactly what you want
It's a win win all around
Tumblr media
Thomas Hewitt
When he first learns about what you were, he was honestly kinda confused
He had heard of witches, and he had heard of vampires
But only through a fictional sense
And even then, he didn't know that someone could be both
Would need you to sit down and explain everything to him
The whole family is supportive of your taste in food (clearly)
They just use the meat, so they're happy to give you all the blood first before going to work
They're a bit iffy about your spells and powers though
Satanic spells would be a hard no in their books
As long as you use your magic outside of their home, then they all couldn't care less on you being a hybrid
Tumblr media
Bubba Sawyer
You eat people? Cool, same.
But the witchcraft thing is going to take some getting used to
He grew up being told that all forms of witchcraft are evil
So you'll need to sit him down and explain everything you do
Has a weird fascination with watching you drink blood
The first time you casted a spell in front of him, he jumped
But just like a little kid in a toy store, he was quick to show his curiosity and want to see more of your spells
Slowly grows to love it
He has never met anyone supernatural before, so having you around is like living in a movie every day
Will go out with you to pick plants and herbs
May even help you set up a little garden out back
He has quite the green thumb
Tumblr media
Brahms Heelshire
His family was pretty religious growing up, so the witchy part is pretty concerning to him at first
The vampire thing is also a bit annoying
He wants to be able to sit down and eat a normal dinner with you every night
But your diet is very particular
Living in the middle of nowhere is nice since you can go out and find plenty of animals to eat if needed
But the lack of people and Brahms never wanting to leave the house makes it difficult for you at times
You probably have to venture outside alone a lot which he doesn't like
But when at home, he grows to appreciate your spells more
The home is clean in a snap, his food is ready in just a second
Definitely becomes even lazier and wants you to do everything for him
He's still a child at heart after all
Tumblr media
Norman Bates
He's honestly a little scared of you at first
Vampires and witches are in every evil tale, and he grew up correlating them with monsters
But he cares about you too much to let you go completely
Prefers for you to drink blood outside of the home
But if there happens to be a body left in one of the motel rooms, he's fine with you venturing in there and doing what you need
He just doesn't want to see it
You've tried using your powers to help clean the motels rooms, but he honestly prefers to do it the old fashioned way
Avoids telling his mother about you being a hybrid
He knows it will just be her screaming in his head every day if he does
He does show quite an interest in the different plants and herbs you collect however
Tumblr media
Billy Loomis
Doesn't really believe you at first
"Prove it"
When your fangs pop out and your spell is cast, he is quick to widen his eyes
"Do it again"
Has a thing for you feeding on him
He finds it quite pleasurable honestly and would rather keep the bite mark than have you heal it up
Likes to join you outside at night and hold you while you conjure up spells
May want you to join him and Stu during their sprees to help them out from time to time
Invites you inside whenever they're done with all their victims so you can eat
Lays in bed with you at night and watches you use your magic to make pretty light shows on the ceiling
Thinks it's sexy
Tumblr media
Stu Macher
Also needs you to prove it to him
Gets the biggest grin on his face once you do
"That's hot"
Likes watching you feed from his arm
Wants you to go to every killing spree with him and Billy
If you can't, he brings back a couple containers of blood for you
Watches supernatural films with you and constantly asks if each scene is realistic
"Can witches do that?" "No, that's clearly fake, Stu"
Wants you to use your powers to pull pranks on people in public
Also wants you to use your powers to help him steal things from the store
Buys you cute crystals for your room
Asks you to conjure up a puppy on a daily basis
Tumblr media
Eric Draven
Loves the aesthetic of it all
The candles, plants, night time adventures, everything
If you're hungry, Eric may beat up a bad guy and let you finish the job
Just don't kill anyone innocent (or cats)
Doesn't mind if you feed from him
Kinda finds it romantic and always holds you close to him, rubbing his hand down your hair
Likes to see the spells you can cast
The ideal night for you two is sitting out on the roof together, him playing guitar and watching you try out new spells and casting your magic
Likes when you use your powers to send him little love messages in the night while he's gone
Enjoys laying in bed with you and watching you create little images on the wall

it’s hours before the premier of the final season, and here’s my two cents.
there’s no point in hating jason, or kim, or anyone. what do you get out of that? bad energy and negativity, killing the enjoyment of the show, and the last time EVER we’ll be able to get new content. this, more so than any other, is not a time for negativity.
be open-minded. be positive. be hopeful. i’m not saying be delusional, but there’s no point in outright throwing hate at cast and crew because you don’t like the way the promotion is being handled, or the way the storyline is being handled, or whatever. all of this is done that particular way for a reason and you may not understand or agree, but hating on people who have made this possible is absolutely disgusting and ungrateful, and should not even be a thing.
be upset, fair enough. bob is not in promo? jason might be baiting bellarke? if that’s how you feel, be upset. but don’t call jason an asshole. don’t say he’s an awful writer.
it is what it is. if you don’t like, don’t engage. posting negativity will only make you and everyone else feel worse.
now that this is out of the way, i hope no one gets upset by the season and jason delivers us a beautiful, well-written story that we are all hoping for. (what’s wrong with a little optimism, the 100 fandom?)

Bio! Dad Strange part 8
This is just a bunch of random things that amuse me from this au, i will try to keep them in a coherent order but no gaurantees.
Everyone in Marinette’s friend group (Max, Kim, Alix, Nino, Sabrina and (somehow) Chloe) has at least one color unique to them, some with a secondary or pattern, to show that they are psuedo-family.
Chloe mentioned the idea after listening to Adrikins go on about anime magic girls and go off on Sailor Moon for too many days.
The group starts it as a joke—if you dont wear your color, you are mad at someone in the group enough to disown them. Wearing someone else’s color meant you saw them as really close compred to the others. Wearing all of the colors meant you felt very loved by the group and are proud damnit!
Chloe picked yellow, and added stripes as her pattern just incase they added another yellow later.
Sabrina demanded purple and argyle patterns as hers. Why? “Purple is mystery i will solve them all!”
Max picked green and decided collared shirts were his domain. Sabrina and him foght over this sometimes, as ‘no we both like this, Not eachother.’
Kim called Red and yellow, since he likes chlow he called her color as his secondary.
Sabrina picked up on the meaning and so did Nino. It didnt register for Marinette, Nino and Max.
Chloe claims this is why she wanted a pattern too.
Alix demands black as her color, despite Max’s protests that no, black is not a color. Alix says she’s all the colors as black, and picked stripes as her pattern like Chloe. Alix has her stripes as knit fingerless gloves, while Chloe wears hers as a shirt.
Nino call blue, and specified his hat as proof of friendship. When he is mad at them he doesnt wear it and everyone assumes a war is going on between him and someone. He forgot it one day and everyone was worried.
Marinette kicks kim and says she wanted Red. In the end she agree to either red or oink—depending on whatever rules her parents made about her wearing any color too much. She picked her signiture flower design as her pattern.
Why is this important?
Becuase now whenever any of them dont wear one if these colors or patterns visibly, it means someone did something and the school intervenes.
So the day Marinette came in early with a too big faded red hoodie and Kim was late without his red on, there was Tension.
He chases Marinette to get his hoodie back. She refuses, dodging and weaving until he ends up in the art class and Oh.
Marinette chucks a better red hoodie sweatshirt at him while saying “this should stop the shippers!”
No one but Chloe and Sabrina knew what that meant. Both were embarassed. They mentioend people thought Kim was crushing on her since his hoodie was getting pinker, and she did wear a lot of faded reds and pinks.
It did not stop the shippers. Only made them swap from romantic ship to ‘oh god these are destructive sibling cinnamon rolls’.
Becuase kim almost crying while tackling Marinette in a hug, in public, while Marinette goes off on him having bà’s hearing and squirming to escape and start another game of chase?
Intense ‘dorky brother loves his new sister who wants to play not be mushy in public’ energy that no one was stopping.
For those wondering, yes these kids have group sleepovers—boy’s night, girl’s night and ‘everyone night’ usually at Marinette or Chloe’s for the everyones. Yes, these are weekly.
Chat noir keeps trying to claim Marinette’s room as his part of the miraculous team’s base.
In this au both he and Ladybug have chosen weilders for various miraculous. They are partners but do lead two teams—Marinette’s focused on support, civlians, and strategy and his focused on combating akumas.
Due to this, Ladybug has a team she oversees, and Chat has a team he oversees.
Fu uses this to decide which would make the better gaurdian, as he trains them both here.
Marinette regrets being the only weilder Tikki approves of weilding her due to how the Cure works is people died. Marinette has to relive their death and decide if they should come back or not (was it too truamatic to go on after living it herself? Did they want to live? Questions like that are hers to answer). She is happy to share her job as Ladybug with other ladybug weilders, but is the only one who can cast the cure if there’s death involved.
Adrien is known to not be a perfect fit for the Black Cat, and he agrees that if a better cat comes along, he will give up his role as Chat Noir but not as a member of the team. Fu admits to him he’s a peacock more than cat early on, and while adrien loves plagg—that’s his cat-god-dad—he knows as a guardian trainee he has to do what’s best for the kwami and Paris. He agrees to training potential cats as Aspik until they can find, reclaim and fix the peacock.
Identities of Ladybug and Chat Noir are kept from each other to prevent them being an easy target for the Hawkmoth in this au. Others can know, but unless they weild a miraculous its dangerous given Nooroo’s weilder is their foe. Also name drops can be a thing and its bad all over.
Marinette is insistent on the secret identities being kept as she doesnt want to compromise her identity as a civilian that is not a meta when Ladybug is a known meta. The Miraculous she’s iffy on, and Tikki admits thst if they werent facing Nooroo, it was normal for all weilders to know eachother’s identites for covers and alibis and such.
Chat is upset about this until she mentions how metas are treated and her being out as a meta as ladybug but not as a civilian and why. Then he’s pissed at the govenrment and starts helping out at protests and crashes anti-meta rallies in Paris on Ladybug’s behalf, and points out that if it wasnt for a tiny meta none of them would be alive after syrenx, so shut up. He accepts her stance and only asks if he can tell her his identity when hawkmoth is done for.
Marinette agrees to post-hawkmoth reveal between them. Their teams hate that only the bugs and cats cant know each other’s identities as bugs and cats. Miraculouses are swapped like candy here, so you may know one hero is also another hero but not civlilin id or vice-versa
Yeah, writer salt here rather than character salt. Especially to how the characters were treated.
On Marinette’s powers, she does have them escalate as she grows and doesnt use her treatments. She takes her meds to prevent this as she’s already scared if her abilities when she leaves them unchecked for too long.
Her treatment is mircodosing kryptonite to keep the kryptonian part from taking over completely. She has all the abilities only when she’s more kryptonian than human cells at the time. Kryptonian cells multiply faster which is why she heals faster.
Max is the only one that she knows knows about her powers in Paris.
Sabine is implied to have an inkling but she ignores her own inkling often. Marinette thinks her mom is pretending she doesnt have powers.
Tom does notice but has no idea how to help, so he’s a cheerleader dad and helps her hide damage sometimes. They have a pact that they dont talk about the time she flipped him, and he fixes whatever she broke, no questions asked.
Side thing but when the miraculous come into play, warning that i will use character non-hero name for what they’re thinking and saying, while their hero-name is for what they are phsycially doing, as some will change mid-fight.
Hey i know this wasnt the expected update, but its more idk how to do Jason as Red Hood finding Marinette again.
First option is he was hunting strange, saw a picture of her on his desk and she calls strange asking about jow she should keep hiding since the restrictions just got worse on metas and she’s scared and ‘are you sure i cant just stay in Gotham? I...i dont feel safe here anymore’ and then Jason going on a Quest to find her in Paris, weird-happy reunion, and he goes back to Paris to live with Strange and work on things as Red Hood where Marinette can’t—mainly ground work. She helps him coordiante with the batfam via Tim, and handles gang attack coordination between Gotham Police, Batfam, Jason and RKC. Zsasz calls Jason his apprentice and trains him on hitman etiquette, guns, and yes, his signature form of ‘conditonal promises’. He was given League of Assassin Training, just cant recall it actively (talia gets memory magic becuase i said so. Blocked it until it would be safe for Jason to process here). He does not go to school, he just tracks down who he wants and ensures they cant hurt people. Is a bit obsessed with this when Marinette and Rose dont stop him by force.
Second Option is they both are targetting the same gang and their bust night is the same. Marinette helps him out in her Harley knock-off outfit (new and improved) while she evacuates the girls making the drugs, and Jason is just hunting dealers to find the drug den, finds a small girl dangling a major drug dealer, while Rose is there with the others tied up in plants. He gets caught by Rose, who recognizes his mark. He doesnt remember much about who he was as Robin, mostly as Red hoodie and is so confused. Marinette claims him as her brother and from there Rose takes on a new brother, dumps him on Strange as ‘i am many things, but i dont think i can handle memory loss and whatever happened to him. You do, so fix it.’ Strange winds up adopting him and Tom and Sabine encouraging him to add them as legal gaurdians. Here Jason is listed then on as Tod J. Smith—he cant remember his name in the right order so that’s what he got. His red hood outfit is revamped by Marinette, who coordinates his attacks on gangs with Batman’s, Gotham Police’s, and the RKC’s attempts at gang busts to maximize gang minimization. Somehow Joker starts helping J as a fellow J-J in Marinette’s life, with Zsasz claiming Jason as his apprentice. He does remember the League Training, but isnt sure if he was Robin and if he could be again if he was given that he was a their and kills the worst of the worst (mostly) of his own volition. Here is does go to school in Gotham.
In both Gina kidnaps him for chrismas with the family like she does with Strange. In Both he’s a teen still (hasnt aged since the Pit) and it takes Marinette and Tikki working together so he can later on (maybe? Idk on that point)
Comment which option you like better, becuase i cant choose.
And yes, rogues will be involved again soon.

... In Love and War
WHO: Tim Drake / @cleverbxrd , Ra’s al Ghul / @thedcmonshead MENTIONED: Steph Brown, Bruce Wayne, Jason Todd, The Bat-Family, Jack Drake WORD COUNT: 4,247 LOCATION: Your typical abandoned warehouse in Gotham, used for all kinds of nefarious purposes. THE BASICS: Tim heads to face what he thinks might be his doom after a mysterious new member of the Young Justice messaging chat prompts him to follow. Tim knows exactly who, and what, this is about. Ra’s is there to finally get what he’s wanted for years.  TW: Tim being Tim, Ra’s being Ra’s, If either of those don’t give enough of an “Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here” Vibe: Emotional Turmoil, Emotional Manipulation, Predatory Behavior, Mentions of Physical Violence, Mentions of Past Deaths, Trauma (lots of it)
TIM: Fear. Anger. Hate.
Emotions came from his chest, his guts, burned with a fire he hadn’t felt in what felt like years. So this was what it was like to feel again? To remember the fight still inside, the passion to push himself forward. To love someone he’d known and admired for years. To loathe the face that yet again threatened to take the one thing that made him happy in this god-forsaken world away.
He’d stared at the messages for what felt like hours, icy blue eyes transfixed on the ‘unknown’ entity that had hacked into his private server (no doubt with help, cheater), and threatened just the wrong people.
Tim. Had. Had it.
The emotions swirled and erupted from his throat in a vicious, feral screech, wanting to do nothing but destroy every inch of the now suddenly cramped but all too empty room he stood in. Tears stung his eyes, squeezed tight against the force of his scream, biting back against the sobs that followed it. He should have known, he should have kept her closer, should have sent her with something to protect herself with. Was it a mistake to open up to her? To feel again? He’d been careless, reckless, failure, IMBECILE, WHY THE FUCK DID YOU LET THIS HAPPEN-
Heaving breaths rocked his lungs like he was trying to breathe in a vacuum, clawed fingers gripping dangerously at his hair, feeling like he could scalp himself from the force. Tim felt himself shaking, but worse than before, worse than the other times he’d felt the same paranoia hit him with the force of a freighter train. Steph… Stephanie...
He had time. He could save her.
With no moment to lose, and a solid look of hate plastered onto his brow, the bird swiftly got to work erasing his presence, jamming tracers and blocking signals that could alert anyone with enough smarts to try finding him.
He’d done what he needed to do, preparing for the impossible, no, the inevitable, and with no time at all he was tugging the belts across his chest again, the cape feeling weightless as the cowl fell over his face. Trusted staff at his back, closed and ready for combat activation, Tim made his way to the cave he was sure he wouldn’t see again for a long time. He didn’t even think to take in the surroundings, check security to make sure no one knew where he was going, his eyes were zeroed in on the familiar bike, his bike, no one else got this Redbird. He was a man on a mission, and he wasn’t going to be stopped.
The mission… Swinging one leg over, firing the engine on, he briefly thought of his family, what little there was, his friends. Guilt flicked through his harsh glare, something anyone paying attention to could barely see under the near molded scowl of the mask. Not even a note, nothing of the sort. He should say something, should tell someone what he was really getting himself into…. A remorseful look shot up at the one entrance up to the manor, where he was sure the Butler and the Gremlin were safe, sound, no second thoughts in their head. Lot of good that did. Just pissed him off more.
No more running. This is the end of the line. It was time to fucking finish this.
What he wouldn’t give to have super-speed, breaking road laws nearly gave the same effect. He tried to concentrate on something other than the white that dared to roll over his eyes; the wind, the engine, the smell of the disgusting city air that would choke anyone who didn’t grow up in it. Something to keep his cool, or as much cool as he could, but it was all futile. Gloved knuckles threatened to rip apart at the very tips, the skin under them turning white under the bruises and scrapes they’ve endured. His hands itched to tear shit apart, they wanted a fight, and he knew exactly who he was targeting first.
If Ra’s was smart (as much as Tim hated to think about it, he really was. That was the scary part.), he’d have guards. At least a couple, just to wear him out, watch like the creepazoid he was, just until he could make that same damn offer again. His loose plan was to never let him get to step three. Take out the mad-man, save the girl, pretend the trauma of the past didn’t prove exactly what you’d told your girlfriend before you got together. Easy as pie.
It was never that easy. Don’t kid yourself, Red.
Skidding to a stop, the bike nearly collided into the side of the building he’d hoped was where the bastard assassin had alluded to. The dark bird stalked the entryway, a twitch in his brows signaling he’d been glaring for too long.
Too damn long, asshole.
One hand slid behind the cape, palming the one friend he’d had forever in combat, the trusted weapon in his crusade against the evils of the world, and he steadied himself, grounded himself with it. If he was going to take him down, he needed to remain balanced, focused, something he thought he could have when he pushed everyone away. Had he done more harm than good?
Never mind checking for locks, the vigilante slammed a hard kick against the door, literally busting his way in as his wrist flicked the staff to full extension, silver shining in the dim city lights behind him, white lenses shining with the harsh hate burning a hole in his stomach.
“Ra’s al fuckin’ Ghoul!” Tim announced, the yell ringing with the echo of his grand entrance. “Let her go. Or I swear I’ll fuckin’ kill you.”
RA'S: Timothy always did have a flare for the dramatic. One of the many reasons, Ra's rather thought, that they had such fun together.
He'd half-expected the boy to come swooping into the warehouse in a rain of glass from above, a la Bruce, but busting in the door had rather a similar effect. And was, in all truth, probably rather more cathartic. The boy clearly needed it, at any rate: the boy's carefully cultivated upper-crust speech patterns were slipping into the improper diction of a real Gotham accent.
Ra's clicked his tongue.
The assassin was seated comfortably in an upholstered chair in the middle of the warehouse, a cup of tea in one hand resting on the arm of the chair. None of his League were immediately visible, though there was no doubt they must be there. It was rare that one of his men wasn't acting as a shadow, at the very least. Presently, there were no less than ten, scattered around in the deep shadows cast by what little light came in through the grimy windows.
"Tt. Detective, that's no way to talk to one's elders. And breaking in a door? All you needed to do was turn the handle--you're a welcomed guest, after all." Ra's sipped his tea, and kept his other hand out of sight. "Come. Have something to drink. I'm sure you could use the tea--you look a bit stressed."
TIM: As soon as the cool air hit his face, he knew things were wrong. He'd miscalculated, but somehow knew he was going to miscalculate. How? No clue, but it was always a surprise with this guy. That's what was really scary; the Unpredictability. Ra's was smart, too smart, smart enough to foil Tim's most complex plans. Half the time, Tim thought he got away with stuff just because it was amusing to the asshole, just letting his birdcage go unlocked to see how wild he could really get. It was only when he had the control he obviously needed, that's when he won. Tim needed the table to turn, and badly.
So what was so wrong with this picture?
He was calm, there was no Steph in sight. Infrared sight in the cowl told him more people were in the building, but none of them matched her form, nothing he could see at least. Bared teeth ground so hard they dared to crack in his jaw, deepening creases on the cowl's beak signifying his emotional turmoil as he stood his ground. He was too damn calm. And all Tim wanted to do was throw a punch.
"You think I give a fuck?!" His voice echoed, but not so much that he didn't confirm the assassin had the help hiding around. Think, if you make one wrong move you'll have to beat back twenty goons instead of the one. If he could only just think through the fire in his core. Pure, unadulterated hate, pushed on by paranoia. Good job taking the time to figure that shit out, Timmy. FUCKING FOCUS.
If he was still wearing the green pants, he might have quipped back something like I was more of a coffee guy anyways and spring into action, with a bright smile and nothing left to really lose. Back when he was younger, innocent, the only hardships he'd faced had been miniscule, moving past his personal tragedies with ease. He was here to make sure that didn't happen again. "I'm not here for sharing pleasantries." The staff whipped around, smacking into both hands. En garde. "Where is she?"
RA'S: Stubborn as ever. And Tim made it so very easy for Ra's to wriggle under his skin. He was ever-responsive to their little games, sharp enough to almost keep up, even throw out a surprise every once in a while.
For all the good it did him.
Ra's chuckled, raising a brow as he watched the boy snap his bo staff into full extension. "I may be wrong," he said slowly, smiling over his cup of tea, "but I believe you're here to do whatever it takes to get your sweetheart home safe." In a millisecond, his voice turned hard. "Put it down and come sit, Detective. You wouldn't deny an old man small pleasures, would you?"
He set the teacup neatly back in its saucer, and folded one leg elegantly over the other, drawing his other hand out of his pocket. A small box--no. A remote. A detonator.
"And do take the mask off, little songbird. It's impolite."
TIM: Shit.
Of course.
Every muscle in his body snapped to attention, an icy cold settling in as he felt his stomach drop to the floor. Something in that motion told him that Steph was still alive, which would make sense. He had little to relax about, but if Ra's was daring to blow something to kingdom come, he could guess that something was her. She was alive, and soon she'd be safe. That's the mission.
Gloved hands trembled, gripping the staff harder while he pondered his options. There really was only one. What did Bruce teach them? What did the absolute lunatic in front of him parrot? Whatever it takes. He probably hadn't met most of his rogues gallery when he came up with that lesson. Tim tried not to focus on the specifics, tried to not get in too deep. At this point, it was all improv, and this was the shit he was the worst at. With one hard exhale through his nose, he signaled his choice: Submission.
Ew. Gross. Bad word.
His stance relaxed, though he stayed as wound as a spring, the staff disappearing back in it's holster and his face finally freed, taking time to make sure he didn't nearly tear the cowl off his head. Messy hair fell out and around his face, no longer as harsh of a snarl but still angered, tense, just barely stained from his earlier tears. It was pathetic, he thought, that anyone could see him like this. That was just the plan, though, wasn't it? This is exactly why he'd taken her, tortured her, made sure he and his friends knew exactly what was going on.
Tim took brave steps forward, his hard, icy glare locked on to his enemy, standing with covered fist clenched to his side. Two outta three commands ain't bad. Who said you can't still rebel when the odds are so stacked against you you might as well fold? "I didn't know you still could feel happiness. Must be rare, not sure I've ever seen you genuinely smile."
RA'S: He could see the gears turning in his little bird's head at the sight of the detonator, the swift reevaluation of data the boy was so very good at. Calculating odds--odds that Stephanie was alive, odds that the detonator had to do with her, odds that Ra's would be willing to kill her if it was.
Odds that surrender would save her life.
As ever, Tim didn't disappoint. The bo staff was returned to its sheath, the mask came off, and the boy stepped over to linger against the side of the chair. Not sitting, simply staring Ra's down as that tongue of his lashed out while his hands could not.
The ancient assassin chuckled indulgently. "Of course I can. Typically you see me fighting, Timothy. You'll have ample opportunity to see me outside that context, now."
Another sip of tea, and he could feel the tension all but rolling off the boy. "I would have thought your father taught you to follow directions better than this. I said drop the staff, not put it back, and I said to sit." The teacup and saucer were shifted to the little table next to him, before Ra's held out an expectant hand. "I'll take the staff. And the mask."
TIM: Tim really hated every word that came out of the other's mouth. Like, Jesus H. Christ, something about the way he spoke made him want to just grumble, snap back even harder than he had. Call it a reflex, call it a learned behavior. He wasn't sure if it was pavlovian, there wasn't much of a reward in the end. Hell, one time he did just that he got kicked out a window and left to free fall. The only satisfaction that came from that was the knowledge that he'd done something to really piss the old man off to try and actually kill him. Fun times.
"My father wasn't the greatest guy." Neither was his dad. Why he stayed at the Manor still, Tim had no idea. It took all of his planning skills just to make sure he ditched the Butler when he went to school, let alone the Bat. "You know, should've known that from my demeanor." Reject, resent, repeat. It was a fun pattern that gave you scraped knees... or broken bones.
If he could tense up any more than he already was, he almost broke in half when Ra's asked for his gear. The few things keeping him from trembling too much, the only constants in this freaky-ass scenario. Whatever it takes.
Fuck... All of this.
"Don't be an idiot, Ra's." Tim growled, though it was quiet enough, his gaze breaking as he pulled the full cape and belt mess from his chest, the whole half of his uniform coming off into his hands in a few swift motions. "It all comes as a package deal. Chew on five pounds of kevlar." It was a last ditch effort, to try and stay calm, keep it quick and quippy. Not helping. The minute he tossed the mass over to Ra's he felt vulnerable. That's what you wanted. Fine. Take it. I can take it. If it's saving her, I can take it. With another rage-heated breath, Tim finally sat, already exhausted from the mental warfare. He never got this exhausted flinging code. Why couldn't he just hack his way out of this?
RA'S: Oh yes, he knew it was a package. It made it all the more gratifying when Tim stripped it off and tossed it in his lap before half-curling up in the chair opposite. Feeling vulnerable, evidently.
Ra's let a smirk tug at the corner of his lips. The boy didn't know the half of it.
Ra's slid free the bo staff before holding the belt out, clearing his throat. One of the assassins skulked out of the shadows to take it, and then disappeared once more.
Ra's tapped the closed staff against his thigh. Once. Twice.  Thrice.
"Mm. No. You didn't want to take the chair when it was offered." He managed to keep a straight face as he nodded towards the ground at his feet. "Here."
Before Tim could open his mouth to respond, Ra's circled his thumb around the button on the remote. "Ah. None of that. I've had quite enough from Ms. Brown, today."
TIM: The Help was here. He was here. He was here. Could this day get any worse?
An ironic twist of fate it would be to ask that out loud.
Though, it gave him a bit of satisfaction to know that Steph had done her verbal damage. What he wouldn't give to know what kind of shit she spat at Ra's. She always was coming up with the good one-liners, he had to practice his in the mirror. Remembering that, remembering her, made his heart feel warm and heavy at the same time, tears starting to shine in his glaring eyes. Teeth clenched, holding back the waterworks for now. He wouldn't give him the satisfaction, not yet. Not until he knew she was safe, and she'd be free.
With reluctance, Tim got up and... Ugh, sat on the floor, at his next appointed target. His head hung low, the clear shame and fear finally slipping into his physical form, the barest shiver taking over his hands. He attempted to stop them, crossing them tight over his chest There was supposed to be a symbol there... oh right and trying to find his breath yet again. A dog, a pet, a bird in a cage. Steph would kill him for this, he was sure of it. Anyone in the family would, and for good reason.
He was right. He was doing the impossible.
RA'S: The boy could be so very well behaved, when properly motivated. Clearly his girlfriend beimg potentially blasted to kingdom come was more than adequate, because the boy hesitated only a moment before pushing himself out of the chair and sitting at his feet instead, head bowed low in shame. Hands shaking with fear, eyes shining with tears.
Ra's left the staff in his lap, reaching out to touch the boy at last, hand brushing at his hair like a dog to be rewarded. "Good." Already baring the back of his neck, like a good little prey animal.
"You know what my price is to let her go, little songbird. Can I assume by your being here that you're willing go pay it?"
TIM: It took all of his energy to not flinch at the fingers in his hair, the pure mess that came from wearing the cowl. This wasn't right, it was just like every other 'surprise' encounter, where he wanted to run in fear but stayed put like an idiot. Only... This wasn't a surprise. This was him, and he was finally giving the old bastard what he wanted. Direct, from the source. Oh god.
"Y-... Yes." Choking out the word felt like swallowing barbed wire, broken sobs that didn't dare escape his lungs frying his vocal chords. This was hard, but not hard enough. He'd made up his mind, she would be free, alive, even if it took his own. "Anything.... As long... As you accept my own terms in return."
Without much warning, his head snapped up again, a surge of fire lighting his eyes in a newfound wave of confidence. "If you're a bargaining man, take them: Steph goes free, you and your League leaves her, my family, and my friends the fuck alone, and I get one last message to send to J- Bruce.... Something to throw him off, no traceable IP, no post-data threads." A shaky breath let his shoulders drop again, eyes closing tight. Whatever. It. Takes. "Then... Then I'm yours." Never in a million years...
RA'S: Anything was such a powerful word, but not as powerful as yours. Ra's let out a pleased hum, considering the boy's requests--because that's what they were, of course. Tim had nothing to bargain with but his own compliance, now, and his current position was plenty enough to indicate how that would turn out.
"The girl will go free, and your family and friends will be left alone so long as you play your part," he agreed after a moment's thought, continuing to card his fingers through the boy's hair. "No message. Surely you don't believe me stupid enough to do that--with your computer skills and your family's knowledge of codes? No, no."
The boy would have to yield to whatever terms he laid out--he didn't have to cede anything at all, aside from Stephanie's survival, but a gesture of good faith couldn't go amiss. "Do we have an understanding?"
TIM: Damnit. Damnit damnit damnit.
He should've known that last request was a stretch. Something told him that if he'd been nicer gross that maybe he'd been more accepting of it. He hated the idea of that, hated everything about this. It was the only thing left he could do, he thought. Anything else would get him and anyone he loved in worse conditions than he'd want to see again. Too many deaths, too much blood. "Dad!!"
"Fine... Fine fine finefinefinefinefine." Annoyance laced every mumbled word, his previous grimace morphing into something a bit more dead, the only hint that he hadn't already given up being the wrinkles on the bridge of his nose where he scrunched it at the thought that he was quite literally handing himself over. At least it wasn't into the GCPD.... Nope. This was worse. Unfair comparison too.
Time for the magic words, building up as much composure as he could. His back went stiff, straight and stoic, sitting up as best as he could to try and endure the self-torture he was dealing out.
"I accept."
RA'S: There was no need to hide the smirk that rose this time, with the boy's reluctant assent, even though he straightened his back and tried to take it like a soldier.  As if Bruce was watching, as if Bruce would care how the boy handed himself over when he was handing himself over.  "Very good, Timothy."
He let Tim rest there at his feet for a moment before uncrossing his legs and nudging the boy up to his feet, following suit a moment later.  His assassins appeared from their hiding places, and Ra's instructed a handful of them to go ensure that Stephanie was dropped off outside the gate to Wayne Manor.  "As for you, Timothy, I have a car waiting to take us to the airstrip.  You could use a vacation from the city, I'm sure."  Vacation was hardly the right word, but the boy would catch his drift, regardless.
TIM: Don't treat me like a fuckin' dog. The words dared to escape, make themselves known, but he had to settle for speaking through his eyes. His jaw was clenched too tight to try forming words anyways, though through all the effort a single tear slipped past his iron-clad defenses, falling perpendicular to the deep line that framed the side of his face. Too many scars to try counting, and yet that one still burned, still reminded him of the shards of glass scoring his skin, a fight he'd thought he'd earned, a death he was too ready to accept. He'd saved Bruce's legacy. If only Dick hadn't been there to catch him, maybe this wouldn't have happened, maybe people would be safe from the curse of tragedy that followed him.
All Tim could do was follow his new orders in silence, standing with his eyes locked to the ground. At least he'd done what he needed to do. The Mission was complete, as far as he knew, with a few extra perks to boot. His Team was safe. His family wouldn't be bothered. Steph was alive. It's all he could ask for, anything after this didn't matter, clearly. This was his last Mission, his last stand as Red Robin...
Fuck that.
"I don't take vacations." The cold words finally came through, cracked and broken, his new-found emotions finally getting to him.  Tim finally brought a covered palm up to swipe at the water stain on his skin, and got a terrible idea.
Being sneaky was always his favorite part of the job. Let's see if he could still even pull it off.
"Whatever..." Hands clenched behind his back, fingers made quick work of finding the one solid compartment that housed his gauntlet's computing processor. It took no time at all to find the microcontroller and crush the chip in his hand, the debris falling to the ground as soon as he opened his palm. It wasn't much, but it was something. If anything, it would hopefully look like a show of his new 'loyalty'. If anyone could find the near microscopic remains of Wayne-Tech chip work, it was his family. Maybe then they'd know how dangerous this situation was, if the fact that he didn't leave anything for them to track was any sort of hint. With his last little act of rebellion, he raised both hands, a light form of surrender.
"Let's just get this over with."

Forgot Something? (Tim Drake)
Word Count: 1730
••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“I knew I would find you here.”
When the elevator doors opened and you spotted Tim hunched over the batcomputer, furiously typing away on the keyboard, you already knew that the night you had planned for the two of you was ruined before it even began. He was so focused on the contents on the screen monitor that when you called his name, he only grunted in response before correcting himself with a brief hello.
After climbing the steps and coming to stand beside him, he never once took his eyes off the screen to turn to you and at least give you that crooked, yet sweet smile he always did when he would see you. You chose to take a step behind him and keep your sentences brief and simple to make sure that you didn’t distract him too much from the task at his hands.
“I can see that you’re working hard…” You paused for a moment to take note of the numerous empty coffee cups that lay a clutter on the desk and on the floor beside him, “So hard that you’ve really given all your energy and time to whatever it is you’re working on.”
“Yup, crime never stops, so why should I?” Tim stated as he took one hand off the keyboard to pick up the cold cup of coffee to the left of him and sip it before setting it down and typing faster than he was before he drank it.
“I guess, but you can always afford a break, you got four other people to take over the job for you in the meantime.” You stated, casting a glance up at the cases on the platform across from you to look at the well-tailored suits that Tim and the rest of his family wore while crime-fighting.
“They can’t work like me, it’s fine, but they don’t have the patience to learn if I were to teach them...especially Jason…” Tim’s words were coming out either super fast or in chunks as he leaned in closer to the computer screen and slowed his typing, his attention was directed more at the screen than you; you liked that he worked hard at whatever he put his mind to, but you hated when his mind chose work over personal time with you.
“Got you!”
You jumped a little at his sudden outburst of pride and excitement, but your wide eyes were soon replaced with soft ones and a small smile as he finally pushed himself away from the desk and stood up to stretch. He plugged in his communicator into the computer and let it sync up with all the intel he had gathered. Now that he was free from the computer, he turned his head to let his electric blue eyes land on you and he was taken back by what he saw.
You stood by the railing, with a slow grin that stretched ear to ear. He noticed that your silky (H/C) locks were done in cascading curls and you were wearing a figure-fitting floral dress with a jean jacket that engulfed most of your upper body. Your weather-beaten sneakers squeaked on the cool metal flooring as you spun around on the tip of your sneakers, waiting patiently for him to say something to you instead of staring at you with his mouth slightly agape and his body nearly frozen in place.
“Wow, you look nice.” That was all Tim said as he let his hand rise to gesture to you before falling back at his side. You chuckled softly at his reaction; he was always like this, even when you would put on your pajamas after a long night out patrolling, he would think you were the most beautiful sight he ever set sight on.
“Thanks for finally noticing,” You laughed out loud as he began to make his way over to his uniform, “I almost thought that you forgot who I was for a moment, you know, with how involved you were with whatever it was that was on the computer.”
Tim scoffed as he turned around and placed a hand over his heart in disbelief with a playful smirk on his lips. “How could I ever forget you?” The way he said it and the look he gave you made you turn away to hide the blush that was forming on your already rosy cheeks.
You came to climb the stairs next to him, shoving his shoulder playfully every time he would shove you back. When you finally made it to the top of the stairs and stood in front of his uniform, you both took a moment of silence to admire the well-tailored suit.
“What happened to all the cuts and soot stains from the last time you went out?” You questions as you remember that the suit was almost damaged beyond repair the last time he came back; Bruce really ripped into him on that last one before he pulled him aside in the shadows of the cave to give him a bone-crushing huge and telling him that he was just grateful he made it back alive.
“Bruce had Lucius make me a back up and this is it while he repairs the other one,” Tim explained while he opened up the case and started to get undressed right in front of you. You struggled to get your sentence out about changing in front of you, but you just decided to enjoy the view while you both continued on with your conversation.
“Oh, okay. Well, may I ask why you’re getting suited up right now?” You questioned him, making him stop for a moment to gesture to the computer before continuing to pull up his pants. “I mean I saw you tracking some criminal activity, but couldn’t you just forward that one of the boys out there right now? I’m sure Jason would definitely take care of it.”
“I’ve been tracking those goons for the last couple of days to find out where they’re doing their dirty work and now that I finally found it, I’m gonna shut them down.” Tim answered with slight excitement as he finished pulling his shirt over his head, “I’ll be damned if I let one of them, especially Jason take credit for my work.”
You just laughed as you held his Bow Staff for him. “Alright, I guess that’s fair… but I was hoping that you weren’t gonna head out tonight because I had plans for us to finally catch that movie you’ve been dying to see for the last couple of days.” You confessed, ruining your secret to surprise him for once in his life.
Tim turned around to give you a sincere smile and came to give you a hug, following up with a kiss on the crown of your head. “That’s… very nice of you to think of me, but like I’ve said the other times, it’ll have to be pushed back. Crime calls and I definitely cannot answer.” He looked into your doe eyes, seeing the slight disappointment that he wasn’t going to cave for just one night.
“Oh Tim, you stubborn boy…” you shook your head as you looked at the batcomputer then back at him, “I know you won’t cave, even just for one night, so just go on ahead and head out.”
“(Y/N), I’m sorry, I truly am. I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” Tim grabbed your hands and gave them a gentle squeeze while he tried to get you to look at him; he didn’t like to leave you when you were upset, “The night’s still young and maybe if I get this done quick and make it back with enough time, we can go see the movie, if you’re up to it?”
You gave him the side eye, thinking about his offer, before saying, “Yeah, sure deal. All you gotta do is just make back here in one piece. That’s all I ask.” You pressed your pointed finger into his chest, making him laugh, “I mean it. I want you to call up one of them while out there and let them assist you. I don’t want you coming back to me all bruised and bloodied...or worse.”
Tim sighed while rubbing the back of his neck, “Alright, fine. You just stay here for the time being.”
“I’ll stay on the comms for you and the rest of them if any trouble arises. If you need any help, you can always call me.” You reminded him as you followed him down to the batcomputer and to the vehicles. He was going to his designated one when you had remembered that he left his communicator on the desk hooked up to the computer. While he was still inspecting his car, you retrieved it for him and met him by the front of his car.
“Alright, well I got to get out of here before something sudden changes in their routine.” Tim was climbing into the driver’s seat of his car when you called out to him, making him freeze and look at you with confusion evident in his eyes.
“You forgetting something?”
Tim’s eyes got wide as he got out of the car and raced over to you and wrapped his arms around your waist before planting his lips firmly on yours, taking you completely off guard. With your eyes still wide open, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him closer to you while his hands traveled up your back, one coming to cup the side of your face as you melted into his arms. His lips tasted like french vanilla and it made you want to go in for more, but he pulled away so suddenly, leaving your desires stranded.
“That takes care of that.”
You giggled as you bent over to control yourself. He stood there confused at your actions while all you did was hold up his communicator in the air. “I was talking about this, but the kiss was also needed too.”
Tim’s face tinted slightly red before he snatched his device and made his way back to his car. He waved to you as he drove out of the cave, leaving you standing there in your spot, lightly brushing your fingers over your coffee smelling lips with a smile plastered to them.

I had books that I either loved or hated so idk maybe I need to do another unhaul to ensure I read books I'll actually enjoy.
1- OtherEarth (Otherworld #2) by Jason Segel
🌟🌟
So this was a big disappointment. It started out fine, but I had this bad feeling about what the twist of this book would be about 50% into it, and then the twist comes and it was just as bad as I feared. Honestly I don't even know if I wanna continue with the last book, I have it but honestly I can't say I am looking forward to it, it wasn't just the plot that fell down but the characters felt pretty inconsistent and yeah not a fan.
2.- Fireborne (The Aurelian Cycle #1) by Rosaria Munda
🌟🌟
The only thing I knew going into this was that it was inspired by Plato's Republic and that it was similar to Game of Thrones, so maybe that is why I found it pretty underwhelming. Like yeah I could see why it was based off the Republic with this system of education (tbh I still found it pretty basic and very much alike to other social systems I've read in other YA books) and there was some intresting tid-bits but not enough to keep me intrested. Now the characters, I liked both individually (unpopular opinion but I liked Annie more, I thought she had real potential but it was wasted because the moment she and Lee have this romance her character completely lost herself on thinking about him and what he did all the time) but I do not think they worked together romantically. There is some potential drama for book 2 but I am not intrested in reading it.
3.- The Mistress (The Original Sinners #4) by Tiffany Reisz
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book was so good. Yeah it was super predictable, but the drama tho. I really loved Layla, she gave us an outsider's insight on Søren and Nora's relationship, and she is just the sweetest that I instantly knew she and Weasley were gonna get together. I cried at that last confrontation scene with Nora and Marie Laure and I am so happy that Nora is back together with Søren because they are truly a good couple despide everything.
4.-Gods of Jade and Shadow - Silvia Moreno Garcia
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I LOVED it. Ever since I saw the cover I was sold. This book I feel like it was meant for me. Like our protagonist Casiopea Tún is a dark skinned mexican girl of mayan descent in the 1920s who meets one of the lords of Xibalba and goes on a quest to help him retake his throne???? And on the way he falls in love with her so much he is about to forfeit his divinity to have a chance to be with her. I just, it was so beautiful, I felt my culture was really represented here, and it's so wierd to see the 1920's represented in Mexico I don't believe I had read something like this before and I will read anything Silvia Moreno Garcia writes from now on. Hopefully we will have a second book for this because that ending makes me wonder what adventures Casiopea will have.
5.-Little Gods by Meng Jin
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book blew my mind. The structure is perfect for the themes . Su Lan was a truly fascinating character though I felt very sad about her, always wanting to escape her past and thinking she was so undeserving for anything good in her life and still fighting to go on. The ending was so good, and all the cast of characters made an excellent conection between the past and the future.
6.- As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Yeah I am a pretentious ho. I was very intimidated by this book (and anything written by Faulkner really) and I was really having trouble understanding the book at first because the prose is so particular (there are sentences that read like Shakespeare, some are almost Biblical stuff and then most of the dialogue is this very coloquial english with very poor ortography) and as English is not my first lenguage I struggled. But then we get to Addie's death and all this odyssey the family goes through to bury her, and it was so beautiful and exciting. I especially loved everything about Addie's chapter, she was so much better than her husband and she deserved better than what she got. I really liked Dewey Dell and Darl. While I hated Anse Bundren with a passion so the end really made me angry like waaaaat this selfish asshole gets everything he wanted and then some??? But I got why it made sense for the book. So I definitely recommend this, but my advice is to let yourself glide through the book, do not try to understand or make sense of it as you start it because then you become frustrated like it happened to me at first but it's a really beautiful book so I am really considering reading more Faulkner.
7.-Chosen (Slayer #2) by Kiersten White
🌟🌟🌟🌟
I enjoyed this book so much. It's a very easy read and we get some growth on Nina and Artemis. I liked the idea of the Watcher's Castle being a refuge for inofenssive demons. And omgggg I fangirled SO hard when Oz, Harmony and Clem appeared (my fave characters, like literally I only need a Spike cameo in these books to be completely happy). I really wanna see Nina meet Buffy in real life and ahhh I am excited for whatever the next book will bring us.
8.-Out of Salem by Hal Schrieve
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is perharps my favorite book I read this month. It felt so relevant to things that are happening in the world, but escapist enough to bear it. For starters I love a good urban fantasy setting, and this was it. Z was a great non-binary protagonist (the fact the author is also non-binary also helps) like it was pretty original to make them a zombie when necromancy is viewed as wrong in their society and they get discriminated for it even though they knew nothing about how it happened to them. And their friendship with Aysel (lesbian muslim werewolf girl!!!) and Tommy (shapeshifter boy) was amazing. Like the way this book translates real life bigotry and social injustice to this magical creatures was truly amazing I recommend it to everyone of any age. Especially middle graders as this book is meant for that age group and I feel this is an amazing diverse read for that age group.
10.-Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
A book so relevant in our current times. So powerful and impactful even if the book is pretty short. We get to see how the systematic racisim at work. We get to get a glimpse of this awful reality through Kev and Ella, two gifted siblings that have lived this experiences in different ways and they cope with this in vastly different ways.It was such an intimate read I cannot begin to describe how angry and sad it made me, but also very glad I got to read it because we need to keep being aware that this is the reality for black people all around the world and they don't get to shy away from it so we shouldn't either we should see, learn and fight as hard as we can to change things for the better.
11.-Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I re-read this book to have it fresh in my mind before the new series airs on July. And I liked it better now than the 1st time. This world is so scary because I see so many realistic elements it shares with the present. I felt a lot for Lenina (for everyone who lives in this world really) because she wanted more than what the society had to offer yet was so deeply conditioned as to what was right that she could just supress her emotions with soma. This book is of course full of racist and sexist stuff (cuz woman and indigenous people can never win) but I feel it helps to get a feel about how fucked up society is as a whole. In the reservation woman are subjected to the usual slut shaming and gender roles we get in our society while in London we get a world in which woman are judged for not sleeping around and being happy and infantile. Like it seems controling woman and their relationship to intimacy and sex is always a bit theme is classic dystopic books which makes a lot of sense given it works like that in the real world too. Same thing with indigenous people being treated as savage to congratula te ourselves for being so much more "civilized" never stopping to think how deeply fractured and flawed this may be. We also get explotation and brain washing of working classes and all that fun stuff. Really and amazing book eerily accurate tho.
12.-Brick Lane by Monica Ali.
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This is the story of 2 very different Bangladeshi sisters with very different temperaments making their way through life. Nazneen is a very dutiful daughter that marries the man her father picked for her, moves to London, though her husband doesn't make her happy she tries very hard in this foreign country with so many desires of her own she wishes that she always supresses because of her upbringing. Then we have Hesina, she was always beautiful and runs away with a guy she was in love with, later he abandons her and she gets jobs and loses them because different man keep making her fall for them to abandon them later. Different as they are this 2 Sisters keep relying in each other through letters. I thought it was very moving, and I really liked the ending for Nazneen while Hasina left me feeling worried and unhappy.
13.- Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
🌟🌟
I was very hyped for this book and I am so sad I didn't like it. I just didn't feel the world building was cohesive (we have space travel but we don't have baths??? And rapiers as weapons??? Most of it felt like aesthetic decisions) the characters felt very one dimensional to me. And the plot was all over the place, just when I thought I knew what it was about it takes another turn and introduces so many generes but it did not feel natural at all so yeah I will not be reading the next one.
14.- Luces de Bohemia de Ramón Maria del Valle Inclan
🌟🌟🌟🌟
Me pareció una obra maravillosa. Definitivamente captura el espíritu creativo bohemio.
15 .- Don Juan Tenorio de José Zorrilla
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I’m a little confused about the timelines too with those tweets & Lindsey directing. Maybe B couldn’t handle the fact that someone else on set was getting more attention than him. Or maybe Lindsey is doing an amazing job & getting praise & feedback from cast, crew, Jason & the writers that he didn’t get when he directed? Or maybe Lindsey is setting some type of stat as a female, Latina director that people on set are making a big deal out & he’s jelly. Who knows at this point. Could be anything.
I’m going to project here based on what we’ve seen and what would be pretty normal for a person to feel.  This is raw speculation, so take it for what it’s worth, aka not much.  I think Lindsey is probably getting the support she should get. Everyone around her has a strong interest in producing a good episode.  From what I’ve seen his comments don’t seem directed at her.
I would not be surprised if he is frustrated and it’s showing.
Since the beginning there’s been a debate about if Bellamy is a co lead or if this is the Clarke show and Bellamy is a second tier character on par with Octavia and a few others who rotate through the spotlight on a per season basis.
In season six Octavia was mostly off screen.  I don’t know if that’s because the actress was off doing the Wonder Woman voiceovers or because her court case was open when they were writing, but in six Octavia didn’t get a real story or screen time the way she has other season.  Usually she’s the B story.  In season six it felt like Clarke / Josie / Bellamy rescuing Clarke from Josie was the A story and Prime Murphy and Josie’s backstory were the C+ with Octavia and Prime vs antiprime filling out the C story tier. There was not solid B story and named supporting characters walked through occasionally to deliver a plot point.  (I really didn’t like six.)  The lack of competing stories and newness of Josie (a likely one season character) made Bellamy seem like a true co lead.  Bob has mentioned before that he’s worn out on Bellamy’s only focus being Octavia, so for him as an actor finally allowed to openly have a goal that’s not about Octavia it probably did seem like Bellamy was getting what he thought he was due as a co lead.  Season seven will shed the last light on Bellamy’s importance in this world.
And then there were some vague tweets and interviews about who understood what about who and is friendship magic or is it only true romantic love that can conquer death and can saving a life be just one part of a plan even if you’re all in on step A without explicitly stating you care at all about C through F. My impression for years now has been that the BTS communication is not great.  Then there’s the difference between what goes in the script, what gets filmed and what comes out of editing.  This alone would be enough to account for what we’ve seen, but wait there’s more.
At the beginning of the season of many shows, and I tend to think particularly in one that has been as fraught over hiatus as The 100 has been, it’s pretty standard for the head writer and/or showrunner to sit down with each of the actors and try to get on the same page about the season and the character.  They can have opinions and try for input, but the actor is the least powerful person on set.  It doesn’t seem that way to us as viewers because they’re the face of the show, but they have no control over the script or the plot direction.
The actor’s job is to translate the written word to action, and doing a bad job of it means they’re doing a bad job. They don’t have to agree with it, but they do have to do it. Ref: Emilia Clark and Danerys.  She may have hated every word  that was written, but she delivered it to the best of her ability and kept her opinions about it to herself until after it aired.  That’s the job.  She came through, kept her slagging professional while respecting her characters fans, and her reward is a Christmas feature film that keeps advertising at me every time I open a new browser window or watch something on Hulu.
It is not only possible but probable that some of the actors on The 100 wanted a different ending for their characters than what they’re going to get.  Some will never say anything harder than “It’s not what I would have picked” or “In my mind this is what happened next after the season ended.”  Bob is tactical in his use of social media but not inauthentic or entirely restrained.  If his back on set conference included direct orders to stop making love eyes at Clarke and the news that he and Eliza are going to spend most of the season separately that would be in direct conflict with his recent decision to be publicly warm to Bellarke (and Bellarke shippers) after years of pushing against it.  (Alternately, Bob hopped from his girlfriend to Eliza real quick and Bellamy bouncing from Echo to Clarke in half a breath reignites some PR problems for him.  Bellarke has to happen a specific way for it to work out overall for Bob.)
So, yeah, I’ve got the vague idea that Bob’s not in love with whatever information he’s been given about Bellamy’s path for the season, but I don’t know when in the run of episodes it’s going to be clear to viewers what he hated and why.  TBH, if Eliza’s filming on Sanctum sets and he’s spending all his time in the woods of Vancouver shivering during night shoots he might just be annoyed about that, especially if he thought the publicity flare their marriage got meant he’d get paid to hang out with his wife in heated rooms for several months.
Finally, people act out senior year.  They’re running out of chances to be their authentic selves and make an impression so they may make new choices.  Not all those choices are good.
Reminder that this is all speculation based on a very few publicly spoken lines and my personal experiences with human behavior.  Someone else might see something entirely different.  I ain’t mad at Bob, but I am real curious about what’s going to happen to Bellamy and the fandom response that will elicit.

Pieces of April [2/?]
AO3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/21099044/chapters/50202530
Summary: On the anniversary of his death, Jason’s second life takes an abrupt new turn and he’s faced with a challenge that neither Batman nor the All-Caste prepared him for.
Rating: PG-13 (rating may change later)
Warning(s): Past Jason/Isabel, kidfic, minor canon character death (pretty sure you can guess who, not either of our boys!), I’ll add more warnings/tags as I think of them.
Canon-Compliance: Takes place in between the two RHATO series, so after Roy and Kori and before Artemis and Bizarro.
First Chapter
________________________________________________________________
Somehow, Drake maneuvers through the city without getting a single red light and without going over the speed limit. It wouldn’t surprise Jason if he’s jerry-rigged some sort of portable device to alter traffic routes, but he doesn’t bother to find out.
Instead, he finds himself hoping he’s gotten all this wrong—that it’s another attack, someone using Isabel to get to him, like what the Joker did—
And then he hates himself for thinking that, because the Joker is always the worst-case scenario, and as thrown as Jason is by his growing paranoia, nothing warrants dealing with that lunatic.
So, he stews in silence, choking down two disgusting energy drinks as fast as he can to try to shake free of his alcoholic buzz. To his credit, Drake doesn’t ask him any questions the whole time, though, from the way his eyes keep cutting to him, he wants to. It’s more restraint than Jason would get from the other Bats, he thinks.
They arrive at the hospital, pulling up right in front of the emergency entrance beside the ambulance bay.
“Do you need backup?” Drake asks as Jason he swings himself out of the car, somewhat steadier on his feet.
“No. This ain’t somethin’ I need a partner on,” he replies. “Thanks for the ride and all, but I buzz off.”
“Got it,” Drake says, shifting gears. “Circle the block a few times, just in case.”
He pulls away before Jason can argue with him, the sudden movement causing the car door to slam before Jason can close it.
He scowls after him.
Smart-ass.
Though, now that Jason’s actually at the hospital, the idea of having Red Robin as back-up is a little more palatable.
He shifts, appreciating the comforting weight of his guns in their shoulder holsters—insurance for the possibility that this is all a trap—and then strides through the emergency doors, looking for the reception area or equivalent since he doesn’t have the tolerance to search any directories any time soon. By some miracle, there’s no line of people requiring triage just then, and Jason presents himself to the harried-looking young man at the counter.
“I’m looking for a patient,” he says without preamble. “Isabel Ardila. I got a call from a Dr. Kerry?”
“Kerry…” the man repeats wearily, types something into the computer and says, “That’s Obstetrics. Take the elevator down the hall, maternity ward is on the third floor.”
Maternity ward.
The words echo over and over in his head, each repetition making the pit in his stomach grow.
Don’t know for sure. Could just be a coincidence.
He swallows.
He knows as well as anyone trained Batman that there is no such thing as coincidence.
Numbness and queasiness that has nothing to do with alcohol bleed into him.
The journey to the elevator and upstairs pass in a blur of half-formed thoughts and impressions. His heart seems to be beating a lot louder than it usually does. No sign of trouble that he can see, none of the warning signals that there’s something untoward afoot here.
None of his senses warning him of imminent danger.
Perhaps that’s what makes him the most uneasy.
Before he knows it, he’s standing in front of another reception area, asking another nurse, or receptionist or whatever she is, for Dr. Kerry.
“I’m looking for Isabel Ardila,” he repeats, barely hearing himself above the rushing in his ears. “Where’s her room? I’m her…uh…husband.”
Another flick of a hand across a tablet and the woman’s face goes carefully and deliberately blank.
Shit. Even someone without training can tell that means bad news.
“Someone will be with you in a moment, sir,” she says, going for sympathetic.
He barely has time to go through the half-dozen possible scenarios in his head before a lanky man with thick-rim glasses in a white coat over scrubs approaches.
“I’m Dr. Kerry,” the man says when he gets there, as if Jason couldn’t guess. “I was told you are Ms. Ardila’s husband?”
“Ex,” Jason lies automatically, and it comes out as a croak. “It’s…been almost a year.”
“Ah.” His expression flickers with understanding but remains grim. “I wasn’t sure. Considering you weren’t present when she was admitted, and she didn’t mention you beyond putting your name down as her emergency contact.”
“I’m…just as confused as you are.”
Probably more.
Kerry’s expression is sympathetic but guarded. “I’m sorry. I take it your situation was…not traditional.”
“No. She was…we were…,” Jason says, and then shakes his head in frustration. “Listen, do we need to rehash my personal life, or are you gonna take me to see her?”
Kerry stiffens, and then sighs.
“I’m afraid that will have to wait a moment, Mr. Ardila. In fact, I think you may wish to sit down.”
He gestures to the wall of uncomfortable-looking plastic chairs.
“No,” Jason replies. “I’ve gotten enough bad news in my life to know what that means, so just spit it out.”
“Very well. Then I’m sorry to have to tell you, but she died about an hour ago.”
Jason hears the words, reads the shape of the other man’s mouth as he says them, and yet they don’t penetrate.
He’s no stranger to death or loss, but this somehow…
She got out. We went separate ways, she found someone else, she had a life. She can’t be…goddamn it, she was normal!
“…placental abruption…started hemorrhaging…no way to get the bleeding under control…one in a hundred cases…”
He barely hears any of it.
Jason could understand if it was one of the many associates he’s had over the years—his line of work, death is always a risk. People who work with him know that—Kori and Roy and any or every Bat and…and everyone he has ever worked with. Death is just part of the gig. Going out in a blaze of glory is expected.
Sometimes literal.
Which is perhaps why it’s such a shock to hear it’s happened to someone like Isabel. Someone normal, someone not in the life, except for when he selfishly pulled her into it.
“…can understand the shock this must be. I’m so very sorry.”
“That’s…it wasn’t your fault,” Jason says, only vaguely aware that he’s doing it.
“The baby, on the other hand, is perfectly healthy.”
His gut clenches like he’s been punched.
“Baby.”
Before, it was just a suspicion. A worry. But that word—baby—it’s solid, it’s real.
“Yes. She’s doing well, despite the circumstances.”
She. There’s a baby. It’s a ‘she’.
Jason’s thoughts are refusing to connect properly for some reason, and it bothers him. He’s taken on entire squadrons of men when he was concussed and barely able to see straight. Fought back the side-effects of the Lazarus Pit, held his own against various members of the All-Caste when under the influence of their psychotropic, hallucination inducing herbal concoctions.
In all those cases he could think through his situation.
But he can’t now.
“I’m…not sure I should be offering congratulations, though,” the doctor admits. “From the expression on your face, you weren’t aware she was pregnant.”
“…I wasn’t.”
“The contact information we had for you…it was in the forms she signed upon admittance. She named you as the father.”
Jason stares blankly again.
He’s been expecting those words since listening to the message, and yet they still don’t seem entirely real to him.
“Mr. Ardila?”
“I…” Jason swallows, forces his brain to get back in gear. “Look. Isabel and me, we haven’t been together for a while.” Nine months, a while, and for a reason. “So…it could be mine…but it probably isn’t. She was with another guy. I don’t even know his name.”
“I see.” Kerry’s brow wrinkles. “That complicates matters. Ms. Ardila didn’t provide any other contact information for anyone else.”
Jason thinks back to every conversation he and Isabel had, trying to think if there was anything that can help here. He knows her parents are dead, that she never had any siblings; she has family in Columbia, but they’re cousins she’s never even met.
“…Other than you, at the moment, this child has no family. And if you don’t intend to take guardianship of her, a social worker will need to be contacted to handle the case.”
Jason tenses.
“Social worker,” he repeats. “You mean foster care.”
He has sudden flashbacks to angry yelling and a belt across his back, always being hungry and cold and unable to sleep for wondering if tonight would be the night the latest piece of trash foster father decided to slip into his room and pay him a visit.
Kerry must detect the distaste in his words, though not the exact reason behind it, because he says cautiously, “I assure you, it’s a valid option, and in her best interest. Babies—infants especially—have a high probability of being placed. If that’s the option you think best, she likely wouldn’t spend much time there.”
Jason doesn’t know what to say to that, thoughts still whirling. He remembers being taken away from Wayne manor, spending weeks in a spartan bedroom in Gotham’s Child Welfare Bureau—
It’s not the same. This isn’t the same situation; this is totally different.
So why is he freezing up and unable to make a decision right now?
The doctor is watching him, expectant, and yet Jason’s tongue feels rooted to the roof of his mouth.
“Surely before that becomes an issue, a paternity test might be an idea.”
Jason closes his eyes at the speaker’s words.
He doesn’t even need to turn around. Of course Drake didn’t listen to him; of course, he’s standing right behind Jason.
Probably has been for a while.
Dr. Kerry appears startled.
“M-Mr. Wayne?”
“Drake,” the younger man corrects, striding forward until he is standing beside Jason. He doesn’t look at him, attention fully on the doctor. His expression is mild, but jaw set and eyes calculating. “I’ve been emancipated for a while.”
The doctor visibly recovers himself. “Be that as it may, this isn’t exactly your—”
“Business?” Drake interjects smoothly. “I’m afraid it is since I’m his partner.”
“Partner?”
The slight bulging of the man’s eyes might make Jason laugh if Drake’s words didn’t penetrate his mental fog. He knows the other man means 'partner' in a totally different sense from what the doctor obviously infers from it. Any other day it would be a joke—hell, he might even play along with it, depending on his mood, drag out the joke to see how annoyed the kid could get—
“Great pains have been taken to keep that quiet,” Drake goes on, warning in his voice.
As in, ‘don’t go outing Tim Drake-Wayne to the press if you ever want to see funding to this place ever again’.
There’d that absurd temptation to laugh, again.
“Of c-course, Mr. Drake. Naturally, patient privacy is paramount. But you understand that legally, right now the only one with a say in the matter is Mr. Ardila, and—"
“And whatever his decision, we need all the facts,” Drake continues in a bizarrely reasonable voice. “He’ll submit to a paternity test, and I’ll expect it to be done as soon as possible.”
“Yes, of course, it can be rushed if that’s what you—”
“No.”
The doctor and Drake glance at him.
“No,” Jason repeats dimly. “No rushing it. I can wait like a normal person.”
“A standard paternity test takes two to three days,” Kerry says, nervous. “If you want to know as soon as possible—”
“Other people need their tests done more than I do—things that can save people’s lives,” Jason replies. With effort, he turns to face Drake. “And besides, I don’t need any of this on the record so your nosy-ass family finds out about before…before I know what the hell is going on.”
He doesn’t really need to raise an eyebrow to communicate what he really means; Drake knows better than any of the others.
The younger man turns thoughtful for a beat, and after several seconds, nods.
“You’re right,” he allows. Then he turns to Dr. Kerry, who has been watching the interchange with the discomfort of someone watching a marital squabble. “We’ll wait for the results then. In the meantime, we should see the baby.”
Kerry blinks. “What?”
“What?” Jason echoes.
And Drake, polished as ever, offers the doctor a weary yet charming smile that has to have been perfected over years of training. “She just lost her mother, and as uncertain as the situation is, until we know different, Jason is her father.” Jason almost swallows his tongue at those words. “I read somewhere that it’s important for babies to be held, especially so soon after birth.”
Kerry appears a little shell-shocked. “I’ll…I’ll have one of the nurses escort you, then.”
“Thank you. We’ll wait here. I think we’re going to need a moment if you don’t mind.”
“No, of course. I understand. It won’t take long.”
They watch him hurry away.
Jason immediately rounds on Drake.
“What are you doing?” he hisses, panicked. “Why the hell did you even come in here, I told you to go!”
“Since when do I listen to you?” Drake counters, fiddling with something beneath the sleeve of his expensive-looking jacket. “You spent the whole drive looking like you were headed to your own execution. You forget I’ve been around after you’ve died, and it’s not pretty.”
“Something else is about to not be pretty, and it’s your face,” Jason grouses.
“Threaten me or not, I’m trying to help you figure this out without having to wait two days.”
“I said—”
“I know what you said. And I have DNA sequencing tech built into my wrist computer,” Drake tells him, tapping the spot beneath his jacket. “Totally secure system, direct feed to my computer at the Nest, no other Bats involved, and we can know in an hour. I just need to get close enough to the baby for a cheek swab or hair sample.” He cocks his head to one side, challenging. “So are you coming?”

interlude 1.2 (Branjie) - PinkGrapefruit
A/N - I feel like i’ve been working on this for ages but it’s the last of my backlogged fics so you’ll get what you get after this. Thanks to the branjie discord for brainstorming with me and to Qtip and Meggie for reading it through to make sure i hadn’t messed it up
This is a 5 time fic prompted by an anon on AQ and i hope you enjoy!
‘five times they follow the rules and one time they break them’
*
1.
[no teams. it just doesn’t end well.]
They’ve strewn themselves over a couch (and each other) somewhere in between episodes three and four. It’s a weekend and to be honest they’re both a little giddy coming off the high of the TV challenge - each feeling that maybe Vanessa should have won but also knowing that there’s still a tomorrow.
They might also be high on their new relationship (or whatever they’re choosing to call it). It’s cute and sweet and a nice distraction from everything going on in the competition just to slow down and cuddle for a bit. Vanjie’s just repositioning his head when Brooke speaks and it sends low vibrations through him. “Nessa,” he starts, quiet and slightly apprehensive. Vanessa props himself up on his elbow and turns a little. “Nessa, do you think we could have some rules?”
The other man hums and tilts his head, examining the thought before carefully replying, “Like what, boo?”
This is Brookes calling. “Maybe easy things, like not too much on camera and nothing too explicit?”
Vanessa hums again in agreement. He scratches his stubble lightly. “So like, no teams and shit?” He muses. “We weren’t bad yesterday, but I get ya.” They kiss and it isn’t discussed again.
In fact, they forget it was ever a conversation until Brooke wins the reading challenge in episode nine. He’s assigning pairs and for a second Vanessa hopes it’s him, wants it to be him so deeply that his face falls when he chooses Nina instead. And then he remembers the rule, his rule and knows that this was the way they planned it.
He can’t stay mad at Brooke for long anyway.
2.
[gigs are professional. and also too dangerous.]
They’re lucky they share management. They say it all the time because it’s the only way they’ve arranged to not end up booked at the same time. Where possible, Jason and Steve schedule the two in different states, time zones apart and yes, it hurts everytime Brooke waves his man onto a plane but the feeling of welcoming Vanessa back home (back to him) - it’s worth it. Going to bed knowing that when he wakes up, his man will have snuck into his bed and curled around him like a koala, their own personal Noah’s Ark at their feet - that’s happiness.
From episode three, they got calls from everywhere, begging them to co-host gigs or do shows together but it was never going to happen. They’re both volatile with tequila and god knows gay bars have enough of it.
Vanjie does shows everywhere and it takes very little to get him to say things he shouldn’t - to spill little nibbles that could turn into a whole lot if you look at them the right way, connect the dots in the right order. Brooke would like to say he’s different, likes the idea that he’s the sane one - ice queen, impermeable. This is incorrect. He drinks tequila fast and hard, lets it burn on the way down only hoping it won’t burn later in a bathroom that isn’t her own. She’s eight deep at Roscoes when it really starts going. Everything Vanessa has said has been, while true, very Vanessa - it’s made just enough sense to get fan blogs whirring while no one can understand what he’s on about. Brooke, on the other hand, reads like a morning paper. Easy and well-spoken and even when he’s making jokes like ‘I’ve been inside of her.’
It wasn’t a joke and people have the common sense to know that only because it’s Brooke that says it.
After that, Brooke decides to get sober. He reckons it’s safer and he can’t keep being this messy with a crown on the line. The next time he’s at Roscoe’s, he’s not drinking and still makes jokes about all the things he probably shouldn’t but they feel sincere. He realises why they can’t do viewing parties together one week when they’re finally allowed to be together while they watch. Vanessa is curled up in his lap, swathed in blankets and cradling a hot chocolate like it’s the thing tethering him to reality. they don’t really move throughout the episode, spend ad breaks nibbling on necks and whispering things they could easily say aloud in the comfort of their own homes but they feel safer to say in private. They couldn’t do this in a bar - maybe the rule is a blessing in disguise.
3.
[competitors first. boyfriends second]
It’s Brooke’s rule, of course it is. He’s the one who keeps watching Vanessa beat himself into the ground - taking every hit like it is breaking him. He can’t help but worry that if it comes down to it  - to the two of them - he might give up. He is worn down, Brooke can see the fear through his skin, hear torments when he lays his head on his chest. He is so tired. It would be so easy.
So he makes it a rule, when they are sinking into a couch in the workroom, the cameras rebooting for the god-knows-how-many-th time - he makes sure he knows that he has to fight. It wouldn’t be fair if he didn’t, he would feel like he wasn’t supposed to be there. And if he’s being a little more honest than usual, he kind of want to see what it would feel like. He wants to feel that adrenaline pumping through his veins, a chaser to the overwhelming fear of knowing that he could send him home.
Vanjie sits quietly as he talks, never arguing with what he says and when he is done, simply nods. He knows that Brooke is right - cannot argue with the overwhelming evidence that maybe he has a little less fire in him than he did at the beginning.
He follows the rule to the bitter end, fights like he doesn’t know that he will beat him if it comes down to it. When it does go there, he pushes forward until he hears the bitter echo of ‘sashay away’ and knows that he did everything he could. The rule may have been competition before boyfriends but he doesn’t hold this against him. He can’t - it wouldn’t be fair.
It’s not fair, Brooke decides as he watches Vanessa walk away. It’s not fucking fair.
4.
[keep it for the camera.]
They don’t choose this one but that doesn’t mean they don’t follow it. A production assistant corners Brooke in his room the night after the Rusical. She - in more words - tells him that he needs to keep what he and Vanessa have for the cameras, don’t be too sweet when they can’t film, don’t hang out outside of cast times. He bites back a thousand remarks, swallowing down half-made jokes about zoo animals and fucking on camera. None of them are appropriate for the situation and he is sure they would all get him some sort of punishment. The PA looks almost sad, a little solemn and worse for wear. He understands she is just doing her job, can’t be mad at her but at the system for being so damn hard. He just wants Vanessa - why the fuck is it so difficult?
Brooke wishes he was there when they told him, can picture the crinkle of his eyes, the fire in his belly that they will have heard before they saw. He’s not comparing Vanjie to a dragon - no ma’am, but had he seen smoke down the corridor, he wouldn’t have been surprised.
Just because they follow the rule, doesn’t mean they don’t push it, too. They count their small victories like kids count pennies: the more they have, the closer they are to a bigger prize.
So what if they talk more than they kiss in the vans? The journeys are long enough for a little bit of both, and their castmates are glad to hear a little less smacking on the daily commute. They bond in a way that isn’t just skin on skin, warmth gliding between them like bonfire toffee and daisies - it brings them closer together as they intertwine fingers and rest heads on top each other. Their hushed voices don’t carry far (or at least that’s the excuse they make for being so damn close together when ‘you’ve got four whole seats bitch.’ They talk between orange slices and hot coffee, over breakfast, lunch, and dinner when the cameras can’t roll and the PAs are off eating their own meals. They find ways to thread inside jokes through their sentences (something the editors hate later on because ‘it’s fucking hard to edit when you have no idea what they’re on about’). Maybe they do it as a quiet rebellion, if the moments are uneditable, they won’t have so much airtime - they can be their own people before they are clumped as one - if they do, no one confirms it.

[emojis only]
It’s a month after filming finishes and they decide that words are too obvious. They can be bent, misconstrued and they know they’ve been given explicit instructions not to give anything away but god, sometimes they want to show a little online affection. He’s sick of hiding it already, dreading when the show comes around because the NDA already says to let things play out onscreen first and he’s way too all over his man.
They pick out some emojis, safe ones that do not allude to anything in particular but also do. The orange heart is Vanessa’s personal favourite, reminiscent of episode four of Untucked. It was his favourite, not only because god, Brooke looked good in that outfit but because even though he was scared, it reaffirmed that he had everything he needed to be fantastic. He comments the heart and hopes it conveys everything he needs Brooke to hear, everything he can’t type because ‘god babe if you thirst on all of my posts this is going to become way too obvious,’ and ‘remember the NDA’. Those words will be the death of him and he knows it.
The knife and the coffin are probably sexual, Brooke decides as he types them on a picture of Vanjie -  he needs way too many words to describe it with eloquence and only two to describe with accuracy. The words are ‘fuck me’ and whilst it he can’t say it, he’s grateful that he can impart that sentiment on the confusing comment section of Instagram. He likes the detective too; it feels like an ‘I see you’ even when their mouths are gagged and their hands are tied and they’ve got a million other things to think about.
The emojis are all fun and games, neither here nor there and nobody really minds. And that’s okay.

1.
[don’t fall in love. showmances don’t last]
Looking back, they’re unsure when they broke this rule. They made it as a joke, a little drunk on prison sangria and competition stress. It’s a joke, they told themselves whenever their hearts fluttered a little too hard. It’s just a joke, Brooke tells himself when he watches Vanjie lipsync for the second time. It’s a joke Vanessa reminds himself when he jokes about putting a ring on it, two days before they can all go home. Maybe they convince themselves it’s true. They stay under the radar and try to pretend that the roses growing in their veins isn’t love, it’s lust, longing, a symptom of a bigger problem. Brooke goes back to Nashville, and Vanessa goes back to LA and it’s fine. ‘Cause it ain’t love.
It takes two days. He sits at home for two days feeling hollow, empty. He lays alone in bed at night but this time he feels it, deep in his bones like a heaviness. They feel under pressure like they will shatter and he wants to scream because this-this is why you don’t fall in love. He’s felt it before and he’ll feel it again as it burns its way through his insides, a trail of fire left in the mussed bed sheets he’d barely laid in. His head thuds back onto the pillow, and he lets the deeply unfamiliar scent of his detergent consume him. It feels like home and like foreign ground, simultaneously and all at once.
He caves, calls him with the number Brooke had said to call as soon as he got home. He hopes he won’t be mad.
*
It takes two days. Brooke flies to Nashville and greets his apartment like an old friend. It was never very decorated - he’d always insisted he wouldn’t have to stay for too long - but compared to a hotel room, it is bustling with life. He spends the first day drowning his sorrows with cheap liquor and his cats, lets Celine Dion fix whatever Drag Race broke. He’s not sure how he can still listen to her but somehow she reminds him of Vanessa and he can’t be mad at that. After two days he wakes up sober and lonely and his head is pounding like a heartbeat so very far away. It’s a joke and he feels like a clown because how did he fall in love like that - with him?
Vanessa calls him and it’s 3 a.m. and he’s never pressed accept so fucking quickly in his life.
*
“Um, hey baby, it’s Vanessa - no wait it’s Jose.”
“Hey.”
I miss you.
I love you.
Move to Nashville.
“How are you?”
I love you.
Move to Los Angeles.
This is bullshit.
“I’ve missed hearing your voice.”
“I know, bitch.”

Krenko’s Guide to Creature Types: Dragon
Tumblr media
Art by Jason Chan
What is a Dragon (flavorfully)?
You know what? No. You don’t get this one. You just don’t. If you don’t know what a Dragon is, I don’t know why you’re here, I don’t know why you play Magic, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life, and you should seriously question whether or not your parents properly prepared you for the world outside.
For Magic specifically, dragons range in intelligence from bestial to many times smarter than humans, and almost always have six limbs: Two wings, two hind legs, and either two front legs or two arms.  Dragons live on every known plane except for Ixalan, and may have been initially spread by a multi-planar being called the Ur-Dragon, which launched its eggs through the blind eternities such that they hatched into dragons in various places, and also one volcano. The largest draconic populations are on Tarkir and in the portion of Alara known as Jund.
For more information on dragons, explore “Dragons of Dominia” , a draconic encyclopedia that inspired me to create first Goblins of the Multiverse and then Krenko’s Guide to Creature Types.
What is a Dragon (mechanically)?
Dragons are the undisputed red iconic, usually large, aggressive fliers, often with haste or some sort of direct damage ability. Dragons have appeared in nearly every set since alpha, and are one of the game’s larger creature types despite the larger rarity. Due to the sheer coolness factor of dragons, Dragons are also prone to appearing in other colors. While this is occasionally a one-off, it’s more commonly the result of a five-dragon cycle, such as Legends and M19’s cycle of Elder Dragons, Kamigawa’s Dragon Stars, Invasion and Planar Chaos’s Primeval Dragons, or any of the multiple dragon cycles from Tarkir block. No matter what color, dragons are almost always large, flying, game-ending threats.
Tumblr media
Can I make a Dragon deck?
In Tarkir or M19, Dragons and Dragon rewards are so plentiful that it’s not unreasonable to play a Dragon Tribal deck in sealed or draft, making it easy in constructed format. Despite the fact that Dragons tend to be large, solo creatures in the same way as Angels and Demons, Tarkir pulled no punches in ensuring Dragon Tribal could be successful, and both Scourge and M19 did their part to help. Time Spiral’s Dragonstorm and Tarkir’s Black/Red Dragons were both solid standard decks, and though it’s too early to tell it’s entirely plausible for M19’s support to result in a standard Dragon Tribal deck.
Modern, unfortunately, is simply too fast for dragons. The big draconic threats just can’t outrace the other strong, ground creatures, and paying the premium for flying rarely matters because any deck that would otherwise roadblock on the ground is going to have the dragon deck on the defensive. Legacy, similarly, just has better, stronger options than any of the dragons. Even the deck “Dragon Stompy,” a mono-red control deck that won with Rakdos Pit Dragon and later Thunderbreak Regent, has cut all its dragons  in favor of Goblin Rabblemaster and Chandra, Torch of Defiance. Despite Dragons being so common, there are no commonly played Dragons in either Modern or Legacy. This isn’t inherently a problem, as there are many creature types that don’t have anyone who can make the cut in older formats, but it is odd that Dragons can’t pull their own weight.
For Commander, there are a whopping fifty three Legendary Dragons, ten of which support the Dragon subtype, plus another three non-dragon Legendary creatures that support the tribe, and one partner pair where the non-dragon supports dragons. Most importantly, there’s a preconstructed Dragon themed deck called Draconic Domination which features The Ur-Dragon as its face card. As the goal here is to create a Dragon tribal deck, I’m going to discount discussion of any Commander that isn’t red. While there are a fair amount of non-red dragons, the multicolor nature of so many dragons means that even going three colors without red severely limits your option on actual, quality dragons and cuts out many of your tribal reward cards. Let’s take a look at our red commander options.
Atarka, World Render is an immediate threat on her own as a creature with flying, trample, and double strike that gives all your dragons double strike when attacking. For big, stompy dragons, this works quite well, and green gives access to mana acceleration. Atarka tends to work fine ignoring other dragons, though, as she can reliably kill a player in two hits.
Bladewing the Risen helps solve an important problem with big creatures in that he returns them from the dead. Further, he acts as a dragon lord, granting a potentially absurd boost to all your dragons if you’re able to untap with him. His own ability coupled with black mana encourages a zombification strategy, filling your graveyard as quickly as you can, returning dragons and removing players in one big attack. Cards like Living Death and Patriarch’s Bidding also work well in a deck focused on high-cost creatures.
Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund grants three colors, which is particularly helpful for having a good removal suite, but granting haste to other dragons at 7 mana is actually rather weak when you can do it with artifacts and enchantments much more easily. Gaining control of all dragons is potentially hilarious, but without access to blue it’s exceedingly difficult to abuse this.
Kolaghan, the Storm’s Fury encourages attacking with many dragons at once, which can be fun for a tribal deck, and Dash is useful, but it’s difficult to put so many dragons on the board that the buff she gives becomes important. At two dragons, it’s just +4 total damage. Still, this empowers your non-dragon support creatures, and in a deck filled with creature tokens it could become terrifying with only two dragons.
Lathliss, Dragon Queen is a decent beater in her own right with shared firebreathing, but  her requirement to cast other dragons after her, as with Karrthus, is going to be difficult to pull off at her high mana cost. Overall, she reads to me as a worse Bladewing the Risen. Both pump, but Bladewing gets you a free dragon when you play him while Lathliss gets you a free dragon only if she survives a round… And honestly, the dragon Bladewing the Risen grabs is probably better than a 5/5 flier.
Scion of the Ur-Dragon is an absurdly powerful commander that can win the game on a swing via combo shenanigans and lets you play whatever crazy dragon you want. Five colors is difficult, but getting to attack as any dragon in the game enables  amazing power. Further, the dragon goes directly to your graveyard so you can use black mana later. Scion’s one real problem is that people are generally aware of its strength and it draws hate like no other creature. The basic combo is this: Pay 4. Activate its ability twice. On first resolution, pick Moltensteel Dragon. Maintain priority, pay 10 (or more) life to activate +5/+0 until end of turn. Then the ability resolves a second time. This time, choose Dragon Tyrant. Scion of the Ur-Dragon is now an 11/6 Flying, Trample, Double Strike creature, which deals 22 commander damage. If you expect blockers, just pay more life. You can only do this once, as the cards go to your graveyard, but there’s ways to get them back and Scion is still plenty powerful when not using this combo.
The Ur-Dragon itself is the most obvious Dragon Commander. The Eminence ability to reduce the cost of your dragon spells is very powerful, access to all five colors enables you to play whatever you want, and The Ur-Dragon’s ability only cares when a dragon attacks, not when it attacks, so playing it onto the board and attacking with other dragons still allows for immediate card draw and free permanents. Nine mana is absurdly high, but reducing the cost of everything else means you’re getting significant value even if you never cast The Ur-Dragon. If you’re willing to invest in a five color mana base, this is probably just the best Dragon commander.
Zirilan of the Claw provides for a unique, mono-red draconic build, throwing dragons individually at an opponent with haste. A lot of work needs to go into Zirilan to make him work right, but with cards like Illusionist’s Bracers, Flameshadow Conjuring, and Erratic Portal it can do some noteworthy things and function entirely differently from traditional tribal decks.
Kaalia of the Vast is worth noting as a commander that reduces the cost of dragons and gives them pseudo-haste. Kaalia is rather strong in her own right with the ability to drop some absurdly costed creatures early, though it’s generally a bad bet to lock her into just one of her three supported creature types rather than using all three.
Sylvia Brightspear and Khorvath Brightflame are a particularly interesting combination. Khorvath himself is  relatively weak. Six mana for three power with flying haste is far too much, even for granting all knights Haste and Flying. Flying is useful if you’re playing more of a knight game, but you simply won’t be playing enough knights while a six drop is sitting on the board for haste to be very useful. Sylvia, on the other hand, grants all your dragons Double Strike for a mere three mana and has Double Strike herself. This means if any dragon you cast survives, Sylvia can immediately turn it into a major threat. While the partners might suggest a balance between being a Knight deck and being a Dragon deck, the fact is that Khorvath is so much mana and so weak that it’s only worth playing the absolute best Knights, like Mirran Crusader and the Backup-Sylvia Silverblade Paladin. Strong equipment will also go twice as far in the hands of Sylvia or any dragon while she’s on the battlefield.
Tumblr media
Is Dragon a good creature type?
As Red’s iconic creature type, Dragon does an excellent job, presented as large, aggressive flying creatures with traditional red abilities that strongly convey the flavor of being a dragon. Dragons that are not mono-red, however, tend to become varied and unique enough that their mechanical identity starts to blend in with other large fliers. In Green, this isn’t a problem, as Green doesn’t get large fliers except in the form of dragons, but White dragons tend to be indistinguishable from Angels, and Blue dragons tend to blend in with Blue’s crowd of large fliers. Black often uses Dragon as an excuse to have a large, flying undead, and this works well, but others like Deathbringer Regent and Kokusho, the Evening Star could mechanically be Demons just as easily.
Still, as Humans are so spread because most of the player base is Human, Dragons are spread because they’re just the coolest thing around. Occasionally dipping into Angel or Demon territory is fine as long as it doesn’t happen too often, and while Dragons lean Red, the volume of multicolor dragons means that they’re also the five color iconic. Wizards has also been careful to lean them into being five color and red. While they appear in all colors, especially on Tarkir, the best Dragon support and rewards tend to be focused in red. M19 exemplifies this with a cycle of 5 three-color dragon lords and an undead dragon at mythic, but having its common, uncommon, and even rare dragons in Red.
As far as other creature types, there’s only one that’s similar enough to Dragon to consider folding into, and that’s Drake. While in appearance they’re very similar to Dragons, and I might not have initially encouraged design to make Drakes as their own, sub-dragon things, if Drakes were folded into Dragons at this point it would dilute mechanical identity too much. Drakes are mid-sized Blue workhorses that are basically always good in limited and always trash in constructed (save one notable exception), while dragons are huge Red bombs that can win the game on their own. Allowing Drakes to gain access to Dragon Tribal cards would certainly be good for the cards, but having common 1/3 dragons would really cut into the coolness factor that, currently, even the common dragons have.
Dragon is in a good place overall, with proper flavor, a decent mechanical identity, good support spread throughout the years, and plenty of Legendary options. As long as Wizards keeps doing what its been doing with Dragons, they’re going to be just fine.

‘Cheers To You Being A Bitch:’ The Bachelorette Ep. 3 Recap
David reminds me of Evan from JoJo’s season. Like Evan, David knows the only way he has a chance of sticking around is if he causes conflict with someone who gets plenty of camera time. For Evan, that was Chad. For David, it’s Jordan.
For the record, I am Team Jordan all the way. David drools. Jordan juuls.
As if I couldn’t dislike him more, David misused the word “literally” in literally the first two minutes of the show.
He said Jordan was “quite literally running naked around the house last night.”
He wasn’t “literally” naked. He was wearing briefs. And he wasn’t running. He was doing his model strut.
David, you’re not as smart as you think you are, you dry-ass chicken.
Nothing gets me more fired up than misusing the word “literally.”
Now that I got that off my chest, it’s time to recap the episode.
Spa Group Date
Real men get their nails painted. It was cool to see which guys fully embraced the spa day and which guys wore socks with sandals like a sociopath.
Tumblr media
Looking at you, Colton.
I can tell you one thing: when Colton was casted on this show, producers probably knew about his relationship with Tia— and yet somehow missed Lincoln’s sexual assault arrest during background checks, but I digress— and planned out this group date with their awkward reunion in mind.
Tia told Becca she had no feelings for Colton and that they just kissed (since Colton is apparently a self-proclaimed virgin.) She assured Becca she shouldn’t be worried that Colton originally wanted her as The Bachelorette.
Becca: Do you think he was hoping it was you?
Tia: Pro—possibly, yeah. It’s a possibility.
Good save, Tia. NOT.
One of the lowlights of the date was when Becca forgot Jason’s name. Talk about a REAL MAN: he later told her “You said it to the right guy. My skin is thick.” Becca admitted she has a crush on him (And yet you forgot his name?!) and he grabbed her face to kiss her.
I think she’s into him....whatever his name is.
Tumblr media
I mean, look at that body language. Jason, on the other hand, please uncross your leg.
I could write a 1,000 word essay about how I think Jason is the perfect man, but I’m short on time. Maybe one day when I learn to not procrastinate.
“I’m not one to throw people under the bus,” said David, as he snitched to Becca that Jordan had 4,000 Tinder matches in the year 2017. For anyone curious, that’s about 11 matches per day.
For that, Becca gave Jordan a high-five. Andd this is why she’s our Bachelorette.
David, with a shit-eating grin, then told Jordan that being on this show will boost his modeling career. That triggered Jordan to go into a Jordan-ism tirade that I must list below:
“That’s a bitch move. You’re a bitch.”
“You are the skeleton of a man, David.”
“Attached to me is professionally. It’s my face.”
“If you’re trying to wreck my image, you will never succeed, because my image is me.”
“Cheers to you being a bitch.”
Tumblr media
I’ll drink to that.
So Becca and Colton made amends and he got the group date rose. Let’s be honest, Becca just wants to make out with him for a few weeks before she gets engaged to someone good for a serious relationship. He’s lucky he’s cute.
Chickens Can’t Fly
In every season preview, we are always led to believe that some sort of brawl caused a contestant’s injuries. In some previews, like Ben Higgins’, we saw a pre-plastic surgery Leah Block with a fake black eye say, “She punched me. In the face.” Did we see any of that during the actual show? No we did not.
On this episode we were led on, but in a different way. ABC really tried to make us believe someone (re: Jordan) tried to kill David. However, he’s just a giant loser who FELL OFF A BUNK BED. At age 25. Dude, go home before you embarrass yourself further.
Thankfully, Jordan was nice enough to “David-proof” the bed for him.
Tumblr media
I’m Skipping Over Chris’ 1-On-1 Because It Doesn’t Matter
Football Group Date
This date was just a poor idea all around. There is no reason why an NFL player should break his wrist playing football on The Bachelorette.
Oh...spoiler: Clay (who I desperately want to call Clint) broke his wrist playing football on The Bachelorette. He ended up getting the group date rose but still went home prior to the rose ceremony because he needed to get surgery on his wrist.
Tumblr media
The face you make when you are a pro football player who breaks your wrist playing football on The Bachelorette.
Goodbye, Clay. As Michael Scott once said. “Hate to see you go, but love to watch you leave. Because of your butt.”
Also worth noting: BSquared talked about taking naps together, which basically means he’s at least getting to the top 3. Blake also called Becca his girlfriend and she seemed to be really into it. After watching tons of people kiss on this show and never commenting on this, I have to admit Blake seemed like a really good kisser. People claimed Dean was a good kisser, but his only move was lip biting. Amateur. I normally am grossed out by watching people kiss, but I’d watch Blake kiss, for sure.
The Rose Ceremony That Didn’t End
As you may tell from this title, we didn’t actually get to the rose ceremony this past episode.
I’m going to end this recap with one final observation:
Mike looks so much hotter when his hair is up in a man bun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You vs. the guy she told you not to worry about.

2020 review
Disclaimer: You won’t hear much about the virus in this. I’m not a denier, I know the damage and destruction covid19 has caused and the death toll, therefore I am not yet cold enough not to realise this is going to sound completely selfish, but that is my decision.  My reviews focus on MY year. Just so you’re aware. “I accept chaos, I’m not sure whether it accepts me.” Bob Dylan.
2020... What can I say?
This was the year I decided to officially identify as Non-Binary, not that anyone actually cares or believes me or things i'm "(insert stereotype at will)" enough. except for those very VERY rare people who do and who actually listen and hear me when I speak
Anyway -It has been a trashcan fire of a year since February/March February when I saw the Hu and Counterfeit alongside Ally. And I say February/March because that was the weekend I say my year ended...the good part anyway. Because it was that weekend when I got the ultimate honour, privilege and miracle of meeting Jason Carter, After that it was like a Dementor had French kissed the year and I can’t be the only one who thought it? Conventions and gigs postponed, rescheduled and ultimately cancelled, masks, social distancing, lockdowns the works. And can I just say - I didn’t clap, and I don’t feel in the slightest bit ashamed for it. Despite or maybe because I have friends and a few family who work in the NHS I couldn't bear to be a part of the hypocritical BS idea. I live in a country that will clap for their 'beloved' life saving NHS but then stand silent when Pay rises are frozen and when the NHS is in danger, we as a country expect a lot but don't lift a finger to gave back, clapping doesn’t pay bills. But...Bright points in the year let’s try staying positive and leaving the crap outside shall we...well... The main one has got to be that the US finally found their sense and President Elect Joe Biden will b sworn in January 20, 2021. After that... I’ll have to get back to you. Oh...no..no that’s not one... seriously I’ll have a think and get back to you. Conventions: Just one this year, for me, because of the obvious... But what a convention FCD Events presents 2258 a Babylon 5 Conventions: Where, as well as finally being among actual self confessed fans and being able to tick a b5 convention off my bucket list after starting cons way too late to attend the OG cons I did the impossible... I MET JASON CARTER... have I mentioned this? Have I? Should I say t again? I MET JASON CARTER!!! Also Mira Furlan, Tracy Scoggins and Patricia Tallman, but I met him! Finally! And... Just a reminder I did warn you guys, several times that it was likely hell would freeze over if I ever got that particular honour, do not say I didn’t. I’d never done an FCD before, I’d meant to, even bought a ticket but it just never seemed to happen, but the second someone said b5 con, I was so there! Karan Robinson made my year by making me the Anla’Shok uniform. And Nadine added the cherry on top by making the belt buckle that ONLY Marcus and Entil’Zha Sinclair wear: D (for the record: Velcro still hates me) David one of the organisers of FCD kept randomly shouting “We live for the one.” And when people other than m actually knew the response and responded... dude kick in the feels I kid you not. Next Year (Angel Willing) Adam and I are attending the Teen Wolf conventions entitled “Howl at the Moon 4” in Paris, France... which is cool on so many levels not least of which being I get to meet JR Bourne and Daniel Sharman again and get to visit the church of St Julian of the poor. And yes, there are cons planned here in the UK. But... well. It’s already looking Grey, and not the good kind. Music and Gigs: Two gigs one after the other at the 02 Ritz in Manchester. The First:
The Hu a Mongolian band who Ally really likes and I think are pretty cool. They are amazing live there’s no doubt, can hold their own in England even in a room of idiots. The 2nd :
Counterfeit (also with Ally) I went VIP and got to meet the boys again, and listen to a Q&A with them. I will forever love them, not just because of Jamie’s acting side despite what people say. Didn’t realise how special until recently though because;  after keeping fans going and hyping up new singles during lockdowns, they recently decided to go their separate ways. Jamie’s gone solo and he’s put three songs out on YouTube. _ I was meant to be attending a one off gig by Ruelle and Fleurie both of who had music used on Shadowhunters, even talked my friend Lou into it, but it was a victim of the lockdowns and things and I’m not the optimistic type so I doubt it’ll ever happen now, will be lucky if even one of the ladies comes over here if I’m honest. Recently I’ve rediscovered a love for Black Veil Brides and their leader Andy Black’s solo stuff. Olivia Hyde of Bad Pollyanna recently killed everyone in her black unicorn’s fanbase with an amazing solo album, me included. Ally has introduced me to a few interesting bands this year, *Wingtips – very 80s Goth, very Ally (translation: very cool.) *Allegiance Reign – a Japanese Samurai metal band,  not sure what Ally actually thinks of these guys, she found them while perusing YouTube and thought of me :D Suggestions greatly accepted, I am always up for giving new stuff a try. Hopefully next year things will even out and gigs will be able to be put on again. TV and Fandom’s: *We FINALLY got Roswell: New Mexico in the UK, and ITV blitzed through 2 seasons in less than a month, but it was enough for me to decide I loved it, maybe more than I did the original. Alex is my fave, but obv Michael isn’t half bad, nor is Max when he’s not making goo-goo eyes at Liz. * Finally got to see 9-1-1 Lone Star and I absolutely love it, (I kinda knew I would from all the talk) * Decided to give the Charmed reboot a 2nd look and it’s proved addictive, now waiting for s2 to be downloadable on Amazon or something. *In march I was so, so excited for the return of The Expanse and the fact the main cast were coming to a con in the UK, then.. The verse went to hell. I still Love the Expanse, but I’m not as die hard as I was, not for lack of trying. Still love it for Anna of course, any excuse to see her. *After 15 years Supernatural finally ended in 2020 with season15: I stopped watching religiously at the end of season 6 but that does not mean I stopped liking the show just that I didn’t like the direction (like with The Expanse recently) I loved watching the reaction of the fans, and how much they (we if I’m counted) mean to the cast. * I have to mention Cursed... If only to say HOLY HELL DANIEL! 𝑴𝒚 𝑭𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝑻𝑽 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝒐𝒇 2020 Cursed 9-1-1 Lone Star & 9-1-1 Warrior Nun Prodigal Son Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Doctor who (Officially season12) Roswell s1&2 (it counts cos ITV only just got the reboots) Charmed s1&2(it counts cos E4 only just got the reboots) Call the Midwife (s9 btw) Our Girl Strike Back: Vendetta Friends: “Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .” ― C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
My understanding of "friendship." is skewed, and I’m not saying that to be "Vulcan." it’s honest, and anyone who wants to know how or why just has to ask. But let’s leave it at that for this. It makes some things more stark... and I've said this recently, but this binfire has made even me more aware of who’s out there in my verse, whose pack, who’s potential, and who’s just pathetic. The last I’m not going to waste my breath on. The first two: Pack and Potential (read: new acquaintances /potential friends) Pack: Yes I go on about friends as 'Pack like a person whose OD'd on Teen Wolf... because I am so :P My pack as a whole are varied, and spread out across this country with a few dotted around Europe and Aus. hopefully they know who they are because I don't do mushy crap as they know. But if they do know, they know I'm there when I'm needed and more than willing to sod off when not. Yorkshire brass makes me frank and I’d hope fair. There are 2...mayb 3 who sit above the rest, in special place for the things they've done and things they've been through with me. I make no denial of that. But everyone is important to me. I wouldn't change them for anything.... Ok... tell a lie, maybe 1 or 2 when they do my box in, but that’s only like for a week maybe less. I've spent too many years and got too many scars and burned too many photos and bridges because of fake people and users to not be honest to a fault. It’s who I am. Potential: the Counterfeit gig in Manchester, 2258 and yes even Tiktok have given me the opportunity to make some interesting acquaintances this year, and some I hope will become friends in the real in the future, but for now I will say - "I am defensive, stand off ish, sometimes bull headed and of course opinionated, but I am by no means blind. Or blinkered despite what may be said of me. I am there when needed, if I can be of use, just poke me."   Ave Atqua Vale This section has its own post these days. Sadly. Pictures Will try and make one of my “a year in ten pics.” Posts later. Final words While I am not fond of this time of year, Enjoy your celebrations whatever for they may take, I will be watching The Magicians / Call the Midwife and plotting 202? Cosplays. I will be here when (fk knows why) I'm needed. Otherwise-  Compliments of the season, now go get a beer, i'm sure you need it after reading this crap.

For the ask thing, Tiffany, Jenny, Deborah, AJ, Kenny, Adam, and Lachappa
Welp, this took ages. Sorry about that ^^;;;;. Some of the asks I answered elsewhere so here’s Tiffany, Deborah, and AJ
The rest are going under a cut b/c it’s looooooong.
Jenny
First impression:I found her kind of boring, honestly. ^^;; Her stats weren’t ones that reallygrabbed me, she wasn’t skilled in repair or speed, and hiding just reallywasn’t my thing.
Impression now: Evenif she’s not my fave, I really do like Jenny, and not just for the chances I’vehad to write her outside of the game. She’s got probably one of my favoriteoutfits (the fairy princess one :3), she’s surprisingly good as a mediccharacter, and tossing a decent Marathon perk on her compensates for her lowstamina. She may not be very fast or smart, but when played well she can be areal pain in the butt for Jason. XD
Favorite moment:For Jenny, it’s probably another moment from when I was primarily doingquickplay games with random people. I spawned in on Packanack Lodge down at thebottom of the map, all alone with a boat escape. While the rest of the team ranaround fighting over the car and the cops, I managed to hunt down the parts forthe boat and repair it completely (and I think it may have been perfectrepairs) and got out on my own while Jason was distracted chasing people at thepolice exit. That was basically the moment I realized I could repair as Jennyand do a good job with it, provided Jason gave me enough time to work. XD
Idea for a story:I’m toying with the idea of a side story for Legacy, involving what exactly washappening with Jenny during the majority of the story… but again, I don’t wantto go into a lot of details because A: spoilers and B: I don’t know if I’ll getto it at any point. XD
Unpopular opinion:Um… her voice is obnoxious? Not really an unpopular opinion I think, but it’sthe best I got. Love ‘ya, Jen, but you need to stop shrieking.
Favorite relationship:Jenny and Chad, obviously. I’m really not entirely sure how I ended up shippingit, but gosh it’s just so cute somehow. Platonically, I see her being reallygood friends with pretty much all the counselors, since Jenny’s just that kind of person who’s basicallyeverybody’s mom friend.
Favorite headcanon:Jenny the Mom Friend, basically. XD She’s the one who’s always ready withsnacks or hot drinks or a shoulder to cry on, or even just ready to storm outthere and give a stern talking to whomever started picking on her friends.
Kenny
First impression:Honesty I thought he was boring. ^^;;;; Largely due to the whole “five in allstats” thing. Since he wasn’t really good at anything, I couldn’t really pinhim down and so just wrote him off as boring.
Impression now:Gosh Kenny’s a cutie. XD His average stats make him easy to tweak into whateverbuild you want to try, and he can actually be a really good addition to theteam! (At least before Jason got his heelies and became super-speedy-jason-6000and ruined the ability to play as anything other than a high-speed characterbecause only Chad, Tiffany and Vanessa can run fast enough to not dieimmediately.) He just feels like an all-around great guy and I’ve reallyenjoyed playing him.
Favorite moment:Hm, again I’m having a hard time pinning down a specific time. I think therewas one round where we had a massive battle at the phone box on the main Lodgeat Higgins Haven, and if I remember right I spent most of my time as Kenny body-blockingthe box or stunning Jason when he tried to break it, but it’s been a while.
Idea for a story:Wellll….. not to give anything away, but I do have a short story I’m working on….>.> featuring Kenny pretty heavily….
Unpopular opinion:I honestly don’t see him as gay? I really don’t mean to offend anyone with this and I don’t have an issue with anyone headcanoning it,I promise. I just… don’t. He reminds me wayyyy too much of a character from my previousfandom who had the fandom treat him the exactsame way because he wore plaid and did engineering stuff as well as being atalented pianist and artist so y’know, let’sstereotype the character that canonically flirts with more women than any ofhis brothers. It’s a super sore spot for me because the whole situation waskinda rough for one of my friends who had a really strong muse for thecharacter, and the fact that it’s happening to ANOTHER character the exact same waykind of frustrates me. Like, headcanon what y’all want but for me at least, I just don’t see it.
Favorite relationship:I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for him and Tiffany at this point. I don’t knowif I’d call their relationship exactly healthy, much like with Chad and Jenny, but at the same time I’m a bit of a sucker forthe “ladykiller in love” trope (or whatever you’d call it if the girl’s the onewho’s a lot more flirtatious than the guy. XD) I also really love the idea ofKenny, Adam and AJ being a really tight-knit group of friends, and Kennyprobably gets along really well with Jenny too.
Favorite headcanon:He’s a bit uptight. Super charming and everything when he’s in “Head CounselorMode” and being friendly with parents and/or kids, but actually running thecamp can make him come across as somewhat neurotic. But on the other side, he’ssuper sweet and kind of a dorky romantic guy who probably serenades Tiffany withhis guitar when he has the chance. X3
Adam
First impression:The whole “edgy,” “biker-y” thing wasn’t really the type of character I’m drawnto, but I didn’t hate him. Like a lot of the characters, I was kind of “meh” onhim in general. Also the lack of stealth really wasn’t my thing for a long time.
Impression now: Ilike him a lot, even if I don’t get to play him much. And honestly, mechanically, he’s not really my best character to play as, especially since he’ssuper noisy and now can’t even run away from Jason at a full sprint. Butcharacter-wise? He’s pretty fun to work with. X3
Favorite moment:Again, really not sure I have one; I barely play him since the random selectiondoesn’t give him to me often, and I rarely pick him since there’s othercharacters I’m better at playing.
Idea for a story:Wellllll, he’s in the short story I’ve been picking at lately… though I don’treally have any stories in mind for Adam specifically. Again, he’s one of thosecharacters I like using as a best friend/side character.
Unpopular opinion:I dunno, I don’t see him as being quite the “tough, rough, bad-boy” some peopledo? Like, yeah he’s got the hair and the leather and stuff, but I feel like he’sa lot more “tough on the outside (especially to bullies) and sweet on theinside” than anything else.
Also I actually like him and AJ being a couple, which seemsto be a somewhat unpopular opinion.
Favorite relationship:Well, AJ mostly, since it’s canon. XD And cute. I do like him and Kennybeing really good friends, and probably the voices of reason in the camp, Adamespecially. (Kenny can be a bit intense as I write him, while Adam’s a lotmellower.)
Favorite headcanon: Iguess since he doesn’t have any confirmed backstory, I kind of really like Adambeing Italian (specifically Sicilian) since his last name is. Also that Adam’sthe cool, laid-back counselor that all the kids think is the Absolute Coolest.
Eric
Y’all had to do it tome, didn’t you?
First impression:I didn’t like him. Out of the entire cast, Eric’s the only one who hasn’tspoken to me at all. Like, at all. He’skind of the epitome of the kind of character I end up feeling very “thank youbut no” about.
Impression now:Nothing has changed. I don’t like him really at all. I don’t like playing ashim because even with a slightly higher strength, he’s still a much worse formof Deborah who can’t run worth anything. And he literally doesn’t speak to mecreatively at all.
Favorite moment:I don’t know, maybe the one time I was in a group and managed to stay away fromJason for like, 5 minutes? The Jason admitted to toying with us, but it was oneof the few times I felt like I wasn’t a huge useless burden as Eric.
Idea for a story:Literally none, he doesn’t speak to me at all.
Unpopular opinion: Idon’t get the meme-ness of him, or understand why people like him at all. Ijust frustrated with people acting like he’s some kind of awesome characterwhen he’s just… really, really not.
Favorite relationship:I don’t have one. I don’t even have friendshipones for him. I think he might have a crush on Deborah but yeah, that ain’tgoing anywhere in my stories.
Favorite headcanon:Uh, that he’s in charge of the radio? Look, I got nothing. I gave him the jobof introducing the radio to Deborah in my story to give him something to do, I literallydon’t have any feeling other than complete apathy at best when it comes to Eric.

Thoughts on The 100 Series Finale (Big ole spoilers)
Welp....The 100 is over and I don’t know how to feel. I wanna grieve for this show but I can’t even do that because I’m so happy that these characters got their happy endings I can’t even.....
I decided to stay up late last night and watch it over stream because I knew it’d be an experience and BOY was I right. But now i’m composed and want to get some thoughts down because I know a lot of people on tumblr aren’t happy with the ending, so I want to add a different perspective in the mix.
First off, I want to establish that I loved the last episode. Were there bits that could’ve been better? Yeah. Did it feel a little rushed? Of course but overall I loved it.  i loved seeing these characters one last time and seeing them get a happy ending that they deserved because it WAS deserved. I was really scared going into it, particularly for Murphy, Echo and Clarke because I thought those three were the most likely to die but everybody lived.
Tumblr media
I’d usually role my eyes and this because happy endings are overrated but for The 100 it feels right. All the pain and suffering, all the death is finally over and they can just be alive.
Now the obvious response I suspect is “Not everybody lived, what about Bellamy.” And yeah, Bellamy’s death sucked and I don’t suspect he was supposed to die in the planning stages of this season. This is just coming from a third year Screenwriting student but I think Bellamy was originally supposed to have a completely different storyline this season. I think something happened behind the scenes that we don’t know about (nor do we have a right to know about) and things were changed later on in the process, which probably makes it feel weird or left open but these things can’t be helped. I suspect (could be wrong) that Bellamy was supposed to be on the beach with them and be in the episode. I think it’s likely that Bellamy was supposed to be in Raven’s position, showing the god figure that humanity deserved to survive and whatnot. But we can’t change that and yelling at Jason or the cast over twitter isn’t going to change that either. Be mad if you want, it’s up to you but if there’s one thing this episode has taught us is the fighting is pointless.
At least Bellamy got some vindication of being right about transcendence. He gave his life for a cause he believed in, betraying his friends to save them. That’s heroism right there folks.
Now let’s talk about Clarke. I loved Clarke in this episode. I think she was always going to fail the test because of Clarke’s age old motto, “I bear it so they don’t have to.” That’s a lot of hatred and rage for one tiny woman. She probably shouldn’t have shot Cadogan but at that point, she was a mother who’d just lost her child and it made sense. Clarke is the complete opposite of the Bardovians and the direct contrast because she was so controlled by love and rage. Honestly, I don’t think the Bardovians would have passed the test either. I also loved that she called out the god for what they were doing because that is our Clarke. Reminded me of that same girl who wanted to tell people the Ark was dying. And in the end she fully accepted that she was going to be alone, even persuading Madi to leave her (Which broke my heart). Clarke was clearly terrified of being alone based on her reaction to Picasso running off but she sacrificed her own feelings for everyone else and in the end, it was finally their turn to sacrifice themselves for her.  Also she got her closure with Lexa and it was beautiful. I have nothing else to say on that just yet because I’m still processing but Alycia is amazing and Lexa’s appearance really grounded me (no pun intended)
Quick lil rants about other characters now because The 100 is an ensemble show and I love these guys so much. First off, Murphy has had the best character development out of everyone and I dare someone to change my mind. This motherfucking cockroach gave up surviving for a few hours with the woman he loved and I had fully accepted his death, as had he. It was so beautiful. Loved the dancing scene with Miller and Jackson as well because even they got their closure. Meanwhile Raven and Octavia casually saved humanity and I’m so proud of them. Octavia really was channeling Lincoln and it was beautiful. So please Raven got that closure with Abby as well. Raven Reyes, who’s spent most of this show in pain, being tortured by humans all her life convinced the god that humanity was worth saving. What a queen.  Also glad that Echo got a few lil moments of closure as well, running out in the field to save Levitt and almost getting killed in the process. The 100 really had me thinking she was going to die and I wasn’t ready but I’m glad she got her happy ending because she deserved it!!!
Character wise, my biggest complaint is that there wasn’t enough Gaia but Indra made up for that by blasting Sheidheda to smithereens. For her mother! URGH I love Indra so much.
Overall, I’m really going to miss this show. Not because of the actual show because the past two seasons have been so different it didn’t feel like the same show. I grieved the season 1-5 show years back and accepted the change because I wanted more of the characters. Not saying that I hated 6/7 because I actually didn’t. In fact, I think Season 6 was really strong. 7 was a bit weaker but I think when shows go on this long the final season always feels odd because there’s so much to fit in. But the ending felt complete and I really got that sense of relief seeing all the characters happy because the war was over. All their pain and suffering was over and so was mine as the viewer.
Truthfully, I understand why people are upset. But let’s be honest, The 100 ending was never going to please everyone, especially when the fandom is so split (and toxic af. seriously, what’s wrong with some of y’all?) and if you’re not happy with the ending, I feel for you. It’s a shame the show didn’t give you whatever it was you wanted but I hope you enjoyed the ride to get here.
In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground.
May we meet again

New Comic Book Day!
October 11, 2017
Trying something new here, and i’m gonna start reviewing comics that I pick up at my local comic store, which may or not be Nightwing related. I figured this is something different, gives me something to do, and I just think it’d be fun. But enough about the why, let’s get into the comics!
Spoiler Alert
1. Action Comics #989
Part three of the Oz Effect! I figure this is gonna be weird starting a review right in the middle of so many comics, but recapping is a real thing. Anyways, this comic kept the action flowing, not so much of a one-on-one dialogue anymore, and we get to see Jor-El in action! The ending was a giant cliff-hanger and I can’t tell if they are supposed to be the LoSH or not. But this interaction between Jor-El and Jon, heck even with Lois are remarkable, and is something I never knew I wanted to see in a comic until now. Though, thus far this story-arc has been very dialogue heavy, and not very action packed. This biggest reveal isn't even the fact that Oz was Jor-El, but the fact that Oz wasn’t Ozymandias, which in retrospect was a little far-fetched and too on the nose. Anyways, I’m excited for the next issue, and excited for the ramifications of this story.
2. Wonder Woman #32
Part two of the Children of the Gods! The previous issue was mainly from Hercules point of view, serving as the primary narrator of the story, and of his death. This time around, Wonder Woman was front and center. I wasn’t expecting too much from his comic to be honest, ever since Rucka left my excitement has dwindled. But Robinson isn’t a bad writer, and I trust the guy to do these comics well. Jason was revealed at the end of the issue, which i was actually very surprised of, and I thought he was gonna be saved till later. But he’s here, very cut like David’s Michelangelo’s. I’m curious to see how his story unfolds, and what kind of role he’ll play in the future of Wonder Woman comics, if he survives this story that is.
3. Mister Miracle #3
This was probably my most excited new comic that came out this week. If you do not know, I love Tom King’s writing. It’s a slow burn type of writing that excels in large overarching stories, like a novel. The way this story is unfolding is getting me excited. Because you KNOW there is something more going on in the story than what is stated. The way it started, how quickly things went downhill, the way the characters talk to each other. Conspiracy theory is that whatever pills he took is actually making him hallucinate this whole thing. But I feel like that is too simple of an answer, and I feel like King will play into the Jesus = Mister Miracle symbolism, with Highfather = God and Darkseid = the Devil. The way Kirby intended it. I’ve also really enjoy the flow of the comic, with the action sequences and the more down-time. In this kind of comic, it’s strange, which plays perfectly with the outlandish nature of the Fourth World. I’m really excited for the next issue, and the rest of the series.
4. Detective Comics #966
Part two of A Lonely Place of Living! I honestly did not see this comic unraveling the way it did, and I’m actually really excited for it. It’s a mix of the Geoff Johns “Titans of Tomorrow” storyline with a Back to the Future kind of vibe. The reveal of “Who the hell is Conner” was so heartbreaking. I’ve wrote a dream pitch for how I’d bring Conner, and the rest of the Young Justice team, back into the mainstay DC Universe, and thus far, it can still go through. Future Tim plays into Present Tim’s thoughts, and addresses them how Tim would probably address himself. I love when time paradoxes play out in the “I know what you’re thinking, because I thought the same things when I was you listening to me.” way. It gives the audience the idea that time is a fixed predetermined path that can’t be wavered from. But we all know that not to be true. We know Present Tim will somehow find a way to beat himself, even though Past-Future Tim couldn’t beat Future Tim. That didn’t make sense. Oh well. I’ve enjoyed this story, and series really so far, and I’m glad Tynion is on this series, being the 90s fan he is, bringing in all those fascinating characters back into the fold, arguably the best time to be a Batman Fan.
5. Red Hood and the Outlaws #15
Part two of Bizarro Reborn! So I haven’t actually read the first part of this comic, with the last RHatO comic I read, besides the annual, was issue 11. So I’m behind. But I can extrapolate the idea that Bizarro came back due to Lex Luther, granting him super intelligence, much to the dismay of his teammates. But it seems to be a temporary thing. I don’t know why the Belfry team thought it was some kind of an attack, or why they are fighting Red Hood at all, but they are. I would have thought Bruce would have told everyone that Jason was on their side. But I just remembered that Jason has to work outside the family on a normal basis, to “infiltrate the bad guys” for Bruce. I think Jason is the last member of Batman Inc, which is very ironic. Artemis is in the story, still great chemistry with the team, and I still really like the idea of this Dark Trinity, it’s execution has been so awesome since day one, and I can’t believe I’m actually excited for the next issue.
6. Batgirls and the Birds of Prey #15
Part one of Manslaughter! Finally a comic that is just beginning it’s story arc. Whew. The Benson sisters have been doing a great job in this comic thus far, giving us great characterization for the main three, and most of their guest stars. This story serves as a “gathering of the troops” setup. We address the problem, identify it, and then gather some people to counter it. The problem is that there is some disease that can potentially kill all the men, which is something, as a man myself, find hilarious and fitting for this comic. Every character has their own reason for trying to fight the disease, with Dinah having Ollie, Babs having her Dad, Helena with Dick, Selina with Bruce, Harley with the Joker (so she can kill him herself), and Poison Ivy just because she wanted to (basically), the rest of the Gotham squad, which includes Batwoman, Spoiler, Orphan and Gotham Girl (whom I’m glad is getting screen time), and last but not least Wonder Woman herself. I think this story is going to be a fun girl-power story, and I’m curious to see who is behind this dastardly attack, and what their motive is.
7. Dark Knights: Metal #3
If Mister Miracle was my most excited story, this is my second. Metal and all of it’s tie ins have been such a treat. It’s a Batman centric story, without shoving in a Bat-God into our face. The threats are on the planetary level, and it’s gonna take everyone to save the world, even bringing in people who haven't been seen in comics in ages. Dick, Clark and Damian have a moment together, that is very in character for everyone, something I respect Snyder for doing so far. The subtly in this comic is mind boggling , how many hints were left behind in Snyder’s past comics, and just in the series alone. I don’t really care too much about the other Batmen though, and am only really curious about what the heck The Batman Who Laughs deal is. Snyder and Capullo are literal Rock-stars in this series, and I’m cheering for an encore -- which may come when this is all over.
8. The Amazing Spider-Man #789
The Fall of Parker! Spinning out from Marvel Legacy and Secret Empire is a more status quo Spider-Man, but with a twist. People love Spider-Man, as much as New Yorkers can, but hate Peter Parker. It’s an interesting twist on such a simple and main staple in the Spider-Man mythos. I’ve always been a fan of the “Down on his luck, penny to his name” Parker, who was street level but with the drive and passion for the big league. With the previous run, I felt like it was just Ironman with a Spider-Man costume on, but now this is some good old fashion comics. I like his relationship with Bobbi, and I think the two are cute together, but I hope Harry and MJ make their return to the supporting cast. The art is also phenomenal, but what can you expect when Stuart Immonen is providing. Even though there wasn’t much of a villain, or a story being told. It kind of seemed like a one-shot to me, with dangling threads that can be picked up later.
9. Daredevil #27
Part two of the Land of the Blind! Not get caught up with Marvel Legacy, Charles Soule continues his fantastic run of Daredevil. Last we saw, Matt was tracking down his once partner, once blinded and once friend, Blindspot. It was all a trap! This story serves as a “secret origins” of Blindspot, as we see his transition from the farm lifestyle in China, to moving to the city, to the United States. This story takes place over days, weeks, and we can see the passage of time from the look on Matt’s face, and his ever growing beard. I really like this twist, and that it was Charles himself to do the twist, and I’m very curious to know if this was his plan all along, or if it was just something he came up with in recent times. Whatever it is, the main thing I can say about this comic is that I love that the red costume is back, and the fact that Ron Garney is providing art. His style compliments the story of daredevil so well, I’d love to see him do a Nightwing book. I’m hoping that Charles continues this fantastic run when he makes the transition to the Legacy side of Marvel.
10.  Runaways #2
When they announced that they were making a show about the runaways, I was very curious on many things. One of the things though, was not who the hell are the runaways. I actually read the original series, and I was up to the moon when they announced that this series was coming back. The story, thus far, has been very dialogue heavy, with action sequences being either in flashbacks or just not present. I don’t mind it too much, since they really have to explain a lot to all the new readers who are jumping on due to the announcement of the show, I just hope it picks up soon with the action, and it seems it will with the glowy cat eyes following Molly. And I was a little curious on why we didn’t get a shot of Molly’s grandma, maybe there is something up with that too. Whatever the case is, I’m enjoying this series so far, and hope the next issue fills the action void that I crave.
11. Defenders #6
Part One of Kingpins of New York! Technically this is part of Marvel Legacy, but it’s weird since Matt is still wearing his black suit, when he has already switched to the red one in his main series, which takes place before Daredevil legacy does. But this issue itself is really just the end of the previous arc, so it doesn’t really seem like the beginning of a new arc. I enjoyed the court scene, and the banter between Daredevil and Luke Cage, especially Luke’s comment that “he knows a thing or two about the law” to DD. I hope he reveals his identity to the team again soon, as I think it gives the team a much more grounded approach. Less flashy superheroes, and more of just street vigilantes. Men and women. I don’t really know why Black Cat is so heavily featured, when I feel like she doesn’t serve too much to the story, but she’s there. I just think BMB likes writing her ever since his Superior Spider-Man run. But that can be brushed aside with his characterization of the main team, something I look at with these team books. I like the idea of the Kingpin being a “Defenders” bad guy, with the addition to Spider-Man of course. Maybe in season 2 of the Defenders? Anyone? Anyone?
