That's the same group that thinks their ship had sex in the bathroom at an awards show. The same group that in 99% of their "analysis videos" says that their ship was holding back the urge to have sex. That's the same group that sexualizes their ship 99% of the time. So no, they don't really believe that.

They don't believe that because before it was leaked that Jimin and Jungkook would enlist together, they were wishing, hoping and praying that their ship would do it under the buddy system. They are only saying that now because it is convenient. It's just one of the many comforting mechanisms they have to fool themselves. To help them to believe that their ship is real.

This is the same group that for much of 2023 bragged that their ship had rebelled against the agency, that they were doing what they wanted, only to end up saying at the end of that same year that the agency still controlled them and that they couldn't do what they wanted. Jimin and Jungkook went on a trip together and it was confirmed that they were recording content together.

That's the same group that lied to themselves by saying that the agency had forced Jungkook to make all those Wlives about Jimin and that he wanted to do the same for Tae but the agency forbade it.

TBH I considered posting this fic here but I truly can't be bothered to figure out how to put all the links and everything so I'll just post the whole fic once it's finished on AO3. In the meantime, I have literally So Much to say about this fic because it's been rotting my brain for weeks now, and there's only so much I can fit in the author's notes, so here we are!

DON'T READ PAST HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS

So, act one:

This chapter really just sets everything up; there's not a whole lot of plot, and the purpose of it is to mainly set up Jiang Yanli's character and her motivations.

I didn't want her to be the perfect Shijie that Wei Wuxian (and therefore we as the audience) see in the novel, but I also wanted to stay true to her characterization. The first bit at Nightless City is taken directly from the novel, with some formatting, grammar, and small narrative changes. It was while rereading this part of the novel (Chapter 78: Nightfall--Part Three, Exiled Rebels Scanlations) that I really got a revelation about Jiang Yanli:

Jiang Yanli, "I'm... I'm here to tell you..." To tell him what? That it's fine? That I don't hate you? That everything is fine? That I don't blame you for hav[ing] killed Jin Zixuan? It was impossible. But she couldn't say anything that was the opposite either. And so, she didn't know what else she could say to Wei Wuxian, under such circumstances. It was just that she felt she had to see this brother of hers once more.

This scene part is gut wrenching. It is obvious that Jiang Yanli doesn't forgive Wei Wuxian nor thinks he's innocent. In fact, the whole reason she's here is to see him "once more," or one last time; she doesn't think he can turn this all around. I don't think she wants him to die, but I definitely think she's expecting him to be exiled and to never see him again, which is why I added the reference to Dongying (Japan), because I could see Jiang Yanli refusing to kill Wei Wuxian but agreeing he's too dangerous and shipping him off in exile somewhere.

She has resentment towards him, but she also loves him. In general, she just has a lot of conflicting feelings about him, and I think she feels guilty about it. No one wants to think the worst of their family. So I think a lot of this fuels her snap decision to take the blow for Wei Wuxian.

Of course, in this fic she's too distracted by her conflicted feelings to notice the blow and he ends up taking it like intended. I had a lot of fun with this twist!

Jin Furen also has quite the role in this chapter despite never actually showing up. I think after the death of Yu Ziyuan, Jin Furen found it her duty to take over the motherly role in Jiang Yanli's life. I do think she genuinely liked Jiang Yanli, but I also think she had her own ulterior motives in play.

To be completely frank, the paragraph about Jiang Yanli's pregnancy and birth being hard, and Jin Furen essentially condemning her to an early death because of it, was kind of an afterthought? Jiang Yanli is often characterized as ill or of poor constitution, despite this not really being in the novel (I blame CQL), but I chose to give her chronic illness for purely selfish reasons.

I recently got diagnosed with Ehler's Danlos Syndrome, which is a genetic disorder that affects my body's connective tissues. One of the things the doctor told me when I got my diagnosis was that pregnancy would be much more dangerous for me because of it (I won't get into the details, but it did scare me shitless). I never really wanted to be pregnant tbh (too dysphoric) but the option had always been there. This diagnosis pretty much destroyed that option. So, I projected my illness onto Jiang Yanli because, why not?

I had completely forgotten I added this in chapter one until I posted it and got several comments talking about how fucked up it was LMAO

The real reason I wrote this fic was because I wanted a fic where Jiang Yanli gets to raise Wei Ying. She already raised him in canon (fight me on this I dare you) and sort of raised Jiang Cheng; I say sort of because as gentry, and especially as heir, he would've had tutors and nannies and all sorts of people helping to raise him. Communal childcare was the norm back then!

But Wei Ying wouldn't really have that, unless the senior disciples decided to take him under their wings, which we have no evidence from canon saying they did. We do have evidence of Jiang Yanli caring for him like a mother, though Yu Ziyuan says she acts like a servant to him (which really just says SO MUCH about how she views parenting). We also have evidence that Jiang Fengmian wasn't all that attentive (Wei Ying's clothes and shoes were too big for him; ill-fitting and worn clothes are a super common sign of child neglect). I would imagine that servants and disciples would be nervous to show Wei Ying any favor as long as Yu Ziyuan was around, so any care he did get was probably inconsistent.

So yeah, Jiang Yanli was probably the most parental figure to Wei Ying growing up, which is all sorts of fucked up. And she already has so much conflicting feelings about him at this point that I simply had to make it more complicated by adding the parental love in there. I don't think the jump was too quick either; she seems to be a person that is very aware of her own feelings, she just doesn't share them often, so I think she would instantly recognize her love for the type it is--the world view adjustment will come later, of course.

She's just so fascinating!! I had so much fun writing her. Cannot WAIT to discuss chapter two OMFGGGG

Furthermore, a thing’s degrees of strength and weakness are determined by the intervention of its opposite. Degrees of heat are determined by cold’s intervention, degrees of beauty by ugliness’ intervention, and degrees of illumination by darkness’ intervention. But if a quality or property is essential to something, that is, if it originates directly from itself and is almost identical with itself, its opposite cannot intervene in it. If its opposite could intervene, this would mean that opposites of the same qualities would have to be united in a single thing—something clearly impossible.

The Absolutely Powerful One’s Power is essential to His Divine Essence, originates from It directly, and is almost identical with It. Given this, and that It is also absolutely perfect, It cannot have an opposite to intervene in It. Hence the Lord of Majesty creates spring as easily as He creates a flower, and will resurrect and assemble humanity with the same ease as He resurrects one person. Ellie could feel the whine down to her very toes—not that she could see them, but trust her- it was there. Too bad the whine was necessary, Nick ‘claimed’ she couldn’t come to work today. Had said something like, “don’t work on your due date Ellie,” and “you know it’s not a good idea, Ellie.”

Well bah-humbug. She was done with this nonsense of sitting on a yoga ball bouncing her life away wishing this baby would evict itself. She could at least bounce on a big ball behind a desk at work and maybe feel a tiny bit useful.

Which was exactly what she finally used to persuade Nick to let her come in to work. They’d gotten a case, but it seemed open and shut—nothing major, a probable suicide out in a barn in nowheresville Frederick, Maryland.

She’d spent the day agonizing over old digital records, trying to find a shred of evidence that suggested the marine didn’t commit suicide—not that they didn’t believe the note, the cause of death, all that. No- she just had the luxury of time to double check. Ball was a-bouncing, her uterus was a-cramping, no biggie.

Just when Ellie thought she’d tied every loose end, crossed every T and dotted every I- she spotted it. A minor inconsistency, something an untrained, non-analyst might miss. Grabbing her phone of the desk she speed dialed Nick…nothing. Next McGee…nothing. This was weird, Ellie began to worry as she tried Gibbs at last…nothing.

Well, shit baby. Looks like mama’s saving the day, Ellie paused to look down at the whale of a midsection she’d developed. She could make it, right?

Two hours later, Ellie’d made it to the team just in time- fed them the critical intel and they narrowly escaped a firefight with the real murderer. The dread started to fill her though as Nick eyed her angrily from afar. Slowly stalking his way over, she felt the squeeze around her middle, the anxiety rippling through her, she presumed.

Nick wasted no time as his firm hand on her upper arm guided her off to the side. The worry and ache in his tone not lost on her and effectively drowning out any bite in his voice “You promised you wouldn’t leave, dammit.”

Ellie immediately jumped on the defensive, even if she could sense he was just scared for her and their baby. “I couldn’t reach you guys! Who knows what could’ve happened if…”

“Ellie we’ve been in worse situations. It is literally your due date, doesn’t that strike you as bigger than a small piece of intel?” Nick rebuked immediately.

She bit the urge to claim it was critical information as the fight deflated her, but not without a sharp piercing pain around her middle, “Well, it didn’t seem important at the time. I thought I had it under control,” her voice lowering at the end as she hung her head.

Nick released a sigh he’d clearly been holding in for quite a while. Wrapping her tight in her arms he kissed the top of her head. Seconds later Ellie felt another stabbing pain rip through her abdomen, this one a long stronger and a lot longer than the last.

Oh, fuck.

“Niiiiick,” Ellie eeked out. “We uh, we may have a problem.” She felt a splash of warm liquid run down her thighs. “I-I think I broke it.”

Nick just pulled her back at arms length to stare questioningly at her face, “What did you break this time?” He asked offhandedly as if this was a common occurrence.

Ellie had no words for him as she stared wide-eyed at the man she loved- the man that was about to get a whole hell of a lot more than he bargained for when he agreed to start trying for a baby.

A ear-piercing, blood-curdling scream was her response as she buckled over, arms clutching her belly. The force of the contraction knocking her over.

She couldn’t see it, blinded by the next contraction as the intensity and intervals picked up, but Nick’s face scrolled through emotions like a 1950s Rolodex. In utter astonishment, he breathed out, “No way in hell. We’re having our baby in a goddamn crime scene. Typical.”

Til tross for økt interesse for barns risikolek er fenomenet lite undersøkt blant barn under tre år. Nærings-Ph.D. i Kanvas, Rasmus Kleppe, har som en del av sin doktorgradsavhandling gjennomført en studie på samspill mellom barnehageansatte og 1-3-åringer i risikolek.

Det teoretiske begrepet som ble brukt for å vurdere samspill mellom ansatte og 1-3-åringer i risikolek var ‘støttende stillas’. Samspill som kunne betegnes som ‘støttende stillas’ ble foreslått å være forutsatt av nært kjennskap til enkeltbarn, av varme og sensitivitet og ansattes evne til å støtte uten å instruere, med særlig vekt på å la barnet utforske selvstendig. I tidligere studier beskrives dette som en pedagogisk væremåte som styrker både barnets trivsel og læring. Ettersom det er risiko involvert og barnets opplevelser potentielt kan spenne fra frykt og tilbaketrekning til glede og mestringsfølelse, er det særlig viktig at den ansatte er sensitiv overfor barnets signaler og tillater det autonomi. Det vil si at barnet får lov til å streve med en utfordring og at den endelige avgjørelsen for videre handling er opp til barnet selv.

Høy andel støttende samspill sammenfalt med høy barnehagekvalitet

Studien fant at de barnehageansatte, i nesten like store deler, enten ikke samhandlet med 1-3-åringer i risikolek eller var preget av godt samspill. Av de 171 observerte tilfellene der ansatte var til stede ved barns risikolek, var det 70 tilfeller der de ansatte ikke kommuniserte med barnet i det hele tatt (41%). I Kleppes studie diskuteres det hvorvidt dette kan tolkes positivt eller negativt, men han heller mot å tolke det som et uttrykk for lav samspillskvalitet. Dette kommer blant annet av at en høy andel «ikke-samspill» med barn i risikolek sammenfaller med en lav skår på det standardiserte kvalitetsinstrumentet ITERS-R (Infant/Toddler Environmental Rating Scale -Revised edition).

Samspill direkte relatert til barns risikolek ble observert i de resterende 101 tilfeller. Av disse 101 tilfellene ble støttende samspill observert i 78% av tilfellene, mens samspill som ble vurdert som ikke-støttende, for eksempel samspill som bar preg av overbeskyttende reaksjoner, ble observert i 22% av tilfellene. En høy andel godt samspill sammenfalt med en høy skår på ITERS-R. Dette tolkes som at det teoretiske grunnlaget for å vurdere samspillskvalitet er relativt likt, men også at de ansatte i denne studien generelt vurderer risikolek på samme måte som annen type lek. Det vil si at de virket ganske trygge på denne typen lek, selv med barn under tre år, og at de derfor støttet den godt når de først gikk inn i samspillet.

Om undersøkelsen

Empiriske data til denne undersøkelsen ble hentet fra en utforskende studie, hvor totalt 53 barn og 21 barnehageansatte, fordelt på 5 barnehager, ble observert gjennom 14 dager i barnehagen. Datainnsamlingen ble utført som en såkalt fokusert etnografi, hvor både feltnotater, kvantifisering av data og video ble brukt for å kartlegge situasjoner som potensielt kunne beskrives som risikolek. Datainnsamlingen resulterte i et analytisk utvalg på 198 tilfeller av risikolek.

Auchentoshan 15 1999/2015 CA Small Batch (56,9 %)

Lavlandsdestilleriet Auchentoshan – de som stadig trippeldestillerer spriten sin, etter irsk tradisjon – har ikke vært noen favoritt her i gården, og standardtapningene deres har oftere skuffet enn overrasket positivt, for å si det slik. Innimellom kan man imidlertid komme over noen riktig bra tapninger, og sjansen er kanskje størst hvis man leter blant de uavhengige tapningene. Derfor kan man jo ha forventninger til denne 15-åringen fra Cadenheads Small Batch-serie; den ble destillert i 1999 og tappet i januar 2015 fra noen bourbon barrels. 504 flasker.

Nesen var fruktig, med pære, eple, lyst kandissukker, litt banan, blomster og våt jord. Smaken var preget av malt, pære, toffee, honning, sitrus og banan. Avslutningen var middels lang, med eiketre, sitrus og litt pepper. Med litt vann tilsatt var det lite endring på nesen – noe mer vanilje og litt malt, kanskje; smaken fikk nå et ganske tydelig preg av chili, i tillegg til mer sitrus, vanilje og eiketre. Avslutningen ble kortere, med pepper, litt vanilje og pære. Også her en chiliaktig, brennende note.

Den blir bedre med tid og vann – slik er det jo ofte – men den er fortsatt en smule underlig. Det er mye «varme» her, den brenner og stikker, og det kan jo tyde på at noe har gått skeis i destillasjonsprosessen. Cadenhead har tappet langt bedre Auchentoshan enn dette, synes jeg.
