The Captain of the Reapers

Fun facts cuz I like infodumping about these guys :

Vanta’s scythe is similar to jttw Sun Wukong’s staff in the sense that it can shift in size, this being based upon the user’s preference and magic—the scythe was originally Phantom’s (KC’s) but was passed down to Vanta after he took the role of captain following KC’s “retirement” along with the golden bird skull trinket he wears at his chest

Vanta is the second tallest of the cast at 7’5ft, the tallest being KC at 9ft—also has the second largest wingspan, the largest of course being KC

Speaking of KC; Vanta and Phantom’s relationship is still that of father and son, though it is very complicated (aka they need therapy bad)

Vanta’s first language, like Diamond (Solar), is french though his english and pronunciation is better and his transition between both languages when speaking is smoother (but at times he still slips up, especially when he’s very upset or focused)

Vanta can unhinge their jaw and they at times will eat bones whole as a snack or to put people on edge, this being based off bearded vulture behavior

Vanta is the closest with Candle (Lunar) and the BM twins (Bones & Rusty), though during the main “plot” of the au Candle and Vanta have a bit of a falling out for reasons✨ while the twins, though conflicted, stay loyal and close by Vanta’s side (he practically raised the twins in this au so they are very loyal to him)

(the reapers + the others in this au “age” in a way, though much slower than human beings and they are all still at least somewhat immortal due to being animatronics and reapers aka basically demi gods of sorts)

Grim reaper y/n with bo and jack?

It was hard doing the type of job that you did. Sure some were easy and accepting of their fates, but others not so much and those were the worst. Even after centuries of guiding the dead to their respective afterlifes you still could feel your heart break at the ones who cried and begged you for their lives. Yet you still took them like you were supposed to. Well until you met him. When he begged for his life you could help but cave, but under one condition. You got to live by his side, and he shows things you've always been curious about the human world. Of course he agreed.

Sunny Day Jack

It was weird for Jack to be living with a being who was so close to ending his whole career, but he eventually got used to it. In fact he found himself…attracted to you. He found your reactions to things to be adorable. The way your eyes would light up when you were amazed by something made his face heat up, when you were shocked by something you haven't seen he can't help but chuckle. He wanted to see more of your reactions. He wanted to be there when you experienced them all. He…wants to be by your side.

It takes him a while before he tells you. He wants to make sure what he was feeling was really, and once he was sure he brought you aside one evening.

He sat you down at the table, and took you hands into his.“Sunspot I got something to tell you….I know we didn't meet under conventional means, but over time you have become dear to me….I want to stay by your side forever.”

You stared at him for a while before you moved your hands out of his “I can't do that…then you would have to be spirit never to return here….you wanted this remember?”

This time Jack places his hand on your face bringing your gaze back to his “You are what I want now….No matter the cost.”

“...Do you mean it?”

“More than you could ever imagine sunspot.”

You pulled him in for a kiss sealing the deal forever, and the two of you couldn't be happier.

Bo

Bo knew this would be a difficult task due to him being just as new to the world, but he wanted that life back and besides it would be a new learning experience for the two of you!

It turned out to be it was. He learned of your occupation, and in return he taught you about the internet and how to control it. You both were amazed by the space plantarum, and he learned about your love for gardening. However Bo noticed something was changing. He was no longer at the thing around him and instead focusing on you and what you seemed to like or dislike, He began to wonder what it would be like to be closer to you…to hold you…..to….love you…

Bo could feel his tail wag wildly as he got up and rushed to find you. When he did he tackled you to the ground giving you the biggest smile. “I'm in love with you y/n! I want to be with you forever and ever! I wanna be your guard dog!”

You looked up at him shocked “B-but i thought you wanted this? To be here!”

Bo just smiles and shakes his head “Nope i wanna be with you forever and ever.”

Their business with the wayward soul finished, Vlad put a firm hand in Danny’s shoulder. “Walk with me, Daniel.” He said.

Danny rolled his eyes but followed easily enough towards the sea.

“What do you want now?” Danny huffed, irritated.

“Is it so strange and unsurmountable the idea that I may want to spend time with my apprentice? No,” he instructed, stopping Danny from wiping his face with a napkin the Fentons had gifted him, “don’t remove your painting just yet.”

Danny lifted an eyebrow and stared at Vlad with open incredulity. They were off the clock, Danny could take off his painting, go home with his foster family and eat mac’n’cheese whilst he did his homework, he didn’t have to stay with Vlad.

“We are going fishing.” Vlad smiled wide, predatory like a shark.

“Hold it firmly, don’t let them take you under. Souls in places like this one… can be desperate.”

Danny tightened his grip in Vlad’s scythe and did as told, pursing his lips in concentration with a creased frown.

They were standing in the middle of the ocean, with only water around them as far as the (human) eye could see. Beneath them, the Reapers could see thousands upon thousands of souls trapped in the water.

He submerged the tip of the scythe’s blade in the water; the promise of rest for these that had been unable to move on, that had rejected their Reapers and chosen to stay behind and paid the price by being stuck in the place of their demise if they couldn’t anchor themselves to something or someone. Whose only chance at moving on was to wait for another Reaper to take pity on them.

Danny saw them look up at him and gulped.

Most of them had swollen faces, drowning being the most common cause of death here, but he could see clearly the victims of violence there. Anyone not a Reaper would say it was too clearly.

“Steady, Daniel. Like I taught you.”

Danny breathed in deeply and finished submerging the blade in the water, feeling something pull, someone hold tightly with an awful mix of hope and despair. Danny held firm and unyielding.

“Monique Chapeau?” He asked the woman looking at them with hunger in her eyes.

“Your time is long overdue, miss.” He said in perfect French. “Will you finally come with us, or do you choose to stay here?” It may sound cruel to even make that question, but neither of them had been the one charged with Reaping her, if they wanted to do it now, they had to ask.

She looked at him with contained rage and incredulity. “Oui.”

Danny turned to Vlad and returned him his scythe. Calling souls was one thing, Danny still wasn’t allowed to do the actual Reaping.

“Then follow us.” The older Reaper said.

She followed them.

Vanta’s design is heavily based off a bearded vulture because it fits for the au and also bearded vultures are so cool and pretty- my favorite bird fr

Vanta’s first language is french (yes this is based off the Eclipse & Solar speaking french thing)

Vanta is nicknamed “Captain” because in this au he is now the leader of the reaper troupe (which consists of him, Lunar, the BM twins, and KC—KC being the former leader, now “retired”)

Vanta—as well as all the other reapers—are wielders of dark magic and Vanta in specific is really skilled at shadow manipulation and shadow cloaking (aka how he hides his wings)

Lunar, whose nickname for the au is Candle, is Vanta’s righthand and they are quite close in this au at least at the start-

Vanta uses he/they pronouns and is a panromantic-demiromantic graysexual
