They all have a favorite cringe pick-up line I can assure you

Riddle

He was never the best at being suave, so he likely hates pick-up lines. He does like ones that, however, are supposed to make him seem witty

Will opt for something like "I always thought happiness started with an “H” but it looks like it starts with “U.”"

Please laugh or at least give him an E for effort ;-; he's really trying

Hit him back with a pick-up line and see him absolutely flustered

Leona

Master at being suave, for no reason. He also never uses it, but when he does he's amazing

Doesn't like pick-up lines, as he doesn't see a point in them. He'll likely go with a super lame one like "Did it hurt? When you fell from heaven?" But the way he says it is at least what saves it from being too cringe

Honestly he's the one that gets flustered easily. So feel free to throw random pick-up lines at him when you have the chance. You might get him to laugh too!

Overall though I don't see him participating in cheesy pick-up lines, but when he does it's marvelous

Azul

Uses them unapologetically. It's lowkey embarrassing sometimes haha

Will make some of his own, but will also use well-known ones to fill his repertoire. His current favorite is "I’m lost. Can you give me directions to your heart?"

Floyd and Jade will tease him about this relentlessly if he attempted to get you to date him with pick-up lines when you first met him haha

He's really sweet, and honestly you know that he's just doing this because you two actually find them hilarious. But sometimes, you can't tell if he's joking or not when he says those cringey lines :/

Honestly is too direct about his feelings to you that he never uses pick-up lines. He might try them out for fun though

Says something super basic like "If you were a vegetable, you’d be a cute-cumber." It makes you guys laugh really hard though so it's not that bad

Please give him pick-up lines, he loves them because of how funny some of them are. It's also nice to just say nice things in general, so why not

Jamil on the other hand might find you two extremely annoying for a while :/

Will not use pick-up lines. Thinks he's better than that (spoiler alert: he's not)

Used it once while you two were alone in the school lab together. He just says out of nowhere "Your lips look lonely. Would they like to meet mine?" You then stared at him blankly for five seconds, which was also the longest five seconds of his life

Please don't tease him about his attempts at good pick-up lines, he will not let his pride shatter so quickly haha

He's more of a love sonnets guy than anything else, but even those can sometimes be super sappy (don't tell him, he really means all of those lovely words)

Idia

Doesn't have the courage to say pick-up lines. If anything, he fumbles up and just runs away ;-;

The one time he did say it confidently was when you guys were in the middle of a gaming session (you two were playing Silent Hill 2) and suddenly he just says "I use Kazuha for crowd control, so why can’t I control my feelings for you?" (you two play Genshin change my mind)

You just roll over on the floor and, before James in your game gets killed you pause it and just tell Idia how cute that was. Idia probably blushes hard but laughs as well, it was kinda funny ngl

Please throw a pick-up line at him too ;-;

Malleus

Was amazed at the idea of pick-up lines (fae's are likely more serious when courting that cheesy pick-up lines aren't really a thing) and decided to try EVERY SINGLE ONE

You really didn't expect to get him showing up randomly at Ramshackle, giving you a pick-up line, and then disappearing. Probably used "I’m not a photographer, but I can picture me and you together" at some point

Though the words themselves are kinda cringe, the way he says it makes you both laugh and also blush. It's kinda wholesome

If you give him pick-up lines back he might take a second to get what you mean (puns about human culture especially). But nonetheless it's fun for Lilia to watch in the background

Trapper, 22 y/o [Species: Octoling??]

Trapper is not just an octoling, he was used to be one of the Kamabo experiment no.5150. Because he was saved by her adoptive mother, Ellie, he always have to hide his identity in the event of Splatoon 1. He doesn't know much about Dj Octavio and the Octarians clan, but he seems interested until the event of Splatoon 3. He doesn't talk, but he can use sign language (it's a sign that he's mute as always and it's because his voice is very likely to human languages and has no bubble effects in it like the other octolings. He's not an only child he was raised by her own mother, he has a sister, Veronika. He doesn't trust the Kamabo or Commander Tartar. He has a strong relationship with Four, but now he miss her (since they became separated and getting worried about her). And also, he's a gardener.

Veronika, 14(splat 3) - 16(now) y/o [Inkling]

She's a little feral and always care for his older brother. Never been join Grizzco industries because her little salmon buddy is afraid of the boss himself. She's a huge fan of Pearl from the Off the Hook. She interested any type of weapons and a mechanic engineer. Being forced to washed herself, since she's smell like fishes belongs in the sea. She's also a best friend of Murch. If you mess with Trapper, you mess with her (she'll forced you to drop yourself in the sea as an threat or eats gross food).

Agent/Captain 3 [No name], 21 y/o [Inkling]

Has slowly lost their original name and gender. Became tired and depressed because of the Octo expansion event, but still smiles when think about the past what they used to. They like Naomi as a close friend. rarely talks and type of introvert person. Doesn't want to talk about Deepsea Metro (they have PTSD). They can rap since they known as DJ Sango. Get along with the Squid sisters, even they stay as their part of the family. Always support other Agents no matter what and only the mysterious agent among others.

Surume/Four, 23 y/o [Inkling]

A great agent who always very positive and an extrovert person. She always like Trapper, who are very close to her (both always think about each other since they were separated from different city). She was busy due to an extracurricular, and a roommates with Hachi and Naomi. Four really care about Trapper's feeling for her if he's not in a good mood. She loves biology to know about sea creatures and even mammals, including plants. She's shorter than other agents.

Hachi/Eight, 21 y/o [Octoling]

An agent who is only one was escaped from the Deepsea Metro with his sister, Naomi. He doesn't get recover his traumatic experience back there, but always finds a way to avoid it. Kind to anyone, likes other agents. He doesn't know about Trapper, but he interested to meet him. Confidence to find answers. He's afraid of C.Q Cumber. When he's stares at you, it can tell he looks like a little puppy. He and Naomi lives with the Off the Hook as like their parent figure. Always protect his sister.

Naomi/Eight, 19 y/o [Octoling]

She's a bit shy and a fan of the Squid sisters after the effects of the Calamari Inkatation. She likes Cap 3 about their skills and being cool. She's barely talks, but always needs a help from her brother. She kinda loves the beautiful view around the new city or places she wants to travel. She's having a fear of Blender and being lonely without her brother or someone. She likes doing art and doodles on her sketch she bought in the surface. She always sticks with her brother since she doesn't want to get separated. And a friend of Four.

I was finally able to show this to my D&D party at our session last night, so I'm sharing it here now, but this was made by @helenawa-art and it's so incredible and blew everybody away. More on the party below the cut:

Quick intro, going left to right, we have:

-Amalda Thistleseeker, my NPC party member who is a halfling Divination wizard

-Elion Xilenis-Ravagen, my wife's character who is an elf druid from a family of revolutionaries plotting to overthrow the elven kingdom for stealing their land

-Eleanora Quitaine, an elf monk who just met her birth mother 2 sessions ago for the first time and was raised in a monastery that she ended up wiping out after being deceived by someone she thought she could trust. She also has a pet hawk

-Lucius Metus, a tiefling cleric who is from hell and whose father and siblings are currently trying to make bids for control of hell. He occasionally tries to get people they meet to sell him their soul

-Snikrit of Clan Skyre, a ratfolk artificer whose weapon of choice is a rocket launcher that shoots rats that explode. He comes from a city of technologically advanced ratfolk and is always looking for the next invention

-Peter Ickle, a human barbarian who, it was finally revealed last session, is actually a psychic pickle piloting a meat suit. He is a prince of Jarr Island from the land of Gherkin looking for his father and whose nemesis is Cole Cumber. It was the longest bit that finally came to fruition after almost 2 years of playing this campaign and I'm so glad I don't need to keep this secret anymore

-The party name they came up with for themselves is "The Sparrows" because they performed "The Pirates of the Caribbean" while on an air ship once so that they could make jokes and references about it to the crew that could be canon and that would make sense for the rest of the journey

-In this picture, the party is wearing what they wore to a royal ball where a fight broke out and they all successfully kicked ass and saved the royal family while also almost all getting knocked unconscious at least once. It was the end of a very fun story arc and they are now onto the Feywild, which none of their characters did any research on before leaving. I'm having so much fun.

You tapped your fingers against your chin, staring out at the packed auditorium. You could hear Nejire Chan at the other end of the stage, answering questions that hadn't been asked yet. You double checked that the red light of your mic was still safe and unlit. You frowned.

"Ummm...sounds like you used that one at a farmer's market." You turned and squinted at the wide smile of Lemillion. "...or a mom in the produce section." He laughed loudly, earning a stern glare from the erasure hero beside him. Mirio leaned towards you so he could whisper.

"You give up?"

"Never!" Another glare from Aizawa landed on the pair of you. You bowed your head to your old homeroom teacher for a moment before switching to a whisper as well. "Ummm something about vegetables right?"

"Mayyyyb-" You straightened up in your seat and your eyes widened.

"Oh! If you were a vegetable, you'd be a-"

"Yes! My turn, make it good." You heard a soft slap and bit at your cheek to stop your laughter at the sight of Aizawa slowly running his hand down his own face. He looked exhausted. You allowed a small giggle to escape your lips. It was like being back at UA. You pitied the veteran pro hero enough to return to a whisper.

"Because you're super hot and I want s'more."

"Hmmm. You must be-" He didn't even pretend to think before reciting the beginning of the pickup line. "-a campfire."

"Well, I thought it was good. It's not my fault you memorize these in your free time." You crossed your arms, sliding down in your chair and pouting until a throat clear from Eraserhead reminded you where you were.

"Another?" You both glanced at the end of the stage where Nejire Chan had flown away with the mic, directing questions into the crowd faster than they could answer. The moderator had found a chair to sit in and didn't look like he planned to take over again anytime soon.

"Yea yea, let's go."

"Because I find you apeel-"

"You must be a banana!" You were too excited to feel guilty when Aizawa rubbed at the bridge of his nose. To be fair, his headache could easily be from Nejire.

"You've learned a lot more since last time we played this." You grinned at the praise from Lemillion, not that he was stingy with his compliments. Everything he said was just so enthusiastically stated as a fact.

"Well, I really wanna win this time." His smile widened when you wriggled in your seat before squaring your shoulders.

"Okay, I'm ready." You glared at him, hoping this one would mean victory.

"You'd...be impeccable." Your cheeks puffed up with air when you saw he was already reciting the beginning.

"If you were a chicken." He leaned towards you, resting his elbow on the table and his chin against his fist. He poked your cheek with his other hand. You puffed the air into his face and he chuckled, but he didn't move away.

"Dammmmit! Okay go."

"Go out with me." You scrunched your nose and your brows furrowed, while you let the words sink in.

"That's...not a very good one." You tilted your head when he blushed. Was he embarrassed to be losing this time?

"Aw geez, you're totally right." He straightened up and scratched at the back of his neck, but left his gaze on you. "Yea I should've saved a better one for you."

"...for me?"

"Well, yea-"

"Oh." You turned to watch Nejire spin back to her seat. You had a wide grin when you turned back to the flustered hero. "So I won this time then?" He threw his head back when he laughed.

"Yes, y/n you're the Punniest Hero. Congratulations." Your smile softened as you leaned closer into him.

"Great, so where are you taking me to celebrate?"

ok so i was braining

octo expansion prequel taking place in the 1980s of the mollusc era at the very start of tartar’s plan. the metro is active but the many stations are under construction. the earliest of tartar’s subjects are run through each chamber to test how easy they are, so it can improve them as well as possible. tartar hasnt made the cq cumbers yet, nor does it have enough primordial ooze to make sanitized octarians en masse yet. it also hasnt even perfected sanitization, so the many stations are puzzle based and offer stuff to do outside of fighting enemies. when there are enemies, theyre borrowed pieces of octarian machinery. you can also do plenty of chores throughout the metro like janitorial duty, organizing metro patrons’ luggage, metro security, et cetera.

seeing as there is no device to regulate what weapons subjects bring into the metro, the current subject uses their octarian ingenuity to modify their weapons with scrap. the various attachments increase fire rate, lower pellet spread, add explosive rounds, and more. speaking of the current subject, that would be subject 80. thats right the 80th EVER subject to enter the deepsea metro. their hair is based off of the trends of the 80s, tentacles styled into a permed mullet tied behind them to keep it out of their eyes. they also don the kamabo co uniform used at the time. a sleeveless jumpsuit with shorts, leg warmers, and heavy duty boots. their ink tank comes with a charging port for a trusty drone.

they may not have cq cumber, but they do have a helpful drone dubbed CQ79. the drone was created by tartar to record data as test subjects run through the many chambers and complete puzzles. the drone also researches the ways memcakes can be utilized. it isnt permitted to assist the player too heavily during the levels but if a gauge is charged or an amount of points is paid, it can act as a grapplink. it can also put up a forcefield similar to a big bubbler, self destruct, and cause an emp to shut down active machinery. speaking of self destructing that is EXACTLY what it will do if you fail your current objective.

cq79 has plenty of odd music saved in its database, human music archived by the creator of tartar to pass down to the next dominant species. subject 80 can listen to music it has no clue is ancient, spoken in languages they can not for the life of them understand. cq79 plays songs previous subjects favored.

each level is labeled with a code. its usually a lengthy string of numbers, and thats FAR too difficult to say, so cq79 has recorded the many, many goofy names previous subjects have given each station. with no cq cumbers to conduct the metro, tartar itself controls the train. you and cq79 will enter the train after each successful level and move to the engine to give the data recorded to tartar. you may notice the telephone has begun speaking in an odd manner, claiming that previous subjects thought the way it spoke was “too boring.”

An annoying problem with Splatoon's story mode needlessly involving the idols is that it makes writing fanfics difficult. Sure, it can be a story set in the world of Splatoon, but if this is the world of Splatoon, then you'll want characters people can relate to. By recycling the idols as companions over and over, we don't get many new characters. S2 had zero new characters for the story mode, OE had C.Q. Cumber, Tartar, the crab who gives you stuff for completing mem cakes that I can't remember the name to, and to some extent, the idols, and S3 had the idols (and to some extent Mr. Grizz). That's all fine and all if they actually did something, but when they all literally just stand around and do nothing, it doesn't help using them as characters past "Marie, Callie, and Cuttlefish run the Splatoon."

The Agents themselves don't help either. By having every story mode make you an "Agent", it feels like every OC has to be an Agent, and it's a breath of fresh air when someone makes an OC who isn't. The Agents also have next to no personality traits or backstory to speak of. You're saving the world because Cuttlefish put an Agent suit on you and said Go, not because you have a reason to. They have no backstory besides "they moved to Inkopolis / Splatsville recently" and no personality traits past "Agent 3 doesn't talk and is super serious" "Agent 4 doesn't watch TV". Agent 8 at least had some sort of backstory, although pulling an "I have amnesia" on us doesn't help her case. She's an Octo who heard Calamari Inkantation and is now fighting to get out of the Metro. But we don't know any specifics about her life prior to the Metro.

Just my thoughts.

Okay THIS! This is one of the reasons I (and MANY OTHER PEOPLE by the looks of it) are so done with the NSS and the idols as recurring characters. The Splatoon world IS HUGE and the developers clearly have endless, even complex character ideas. The world is so big and so complex and we see none of it because every "story" that we're given in Splatoon deliberately REMOVES YOU FROM THAT WORLD... then spoon feeds you some chosen hero arc with the same zero-personality supporting cast over and over again that's really only a supporting cast if you as the player have a sentimental attachment to the characters (they don't do anything in the game and usually have like 1 personality trait.)

Like, just imagine if the stories in Splatoon had the freedom to be detached from the idols and if they had the freedom to tell smaller, down-to-earth stories that felt much more personal and took place in actual facets of the world. They could craft a colorful cast of characters that actually had purpose in that setting and there's no reason you COULDN'T still make those characters marketable and fan-favorite! There's literally so much you can do with stories within the Splatoon world and somehow all the Splatoon stories completely miss the mark and I don't know how they keep doing it. It almost feels like they're purposefully avoiding fleshing out the world or the characters of the game, lol

And this is something that I find really strange because isn't one of Splatoon's driving themes the freedom of self expression and like, diversity? Then why are we always playing as some character who's void of personality and doing some random crap in an environment that's emptier than the local mall during May 2020. The world is out there, WHY AREN'T WE? Believe it or not, before Octo Expansion's release and Off the Hook becoming super popular, the Splatoon fandom WAS full of independent OCs that were just... guys that live in the Splatoon world, and the world itself was a huge focus because that was like, the THING. But after the game became deliberately character-focused, there was a huge boom where nowadays instead of random OCs with no ties to the canon characters, everyone's OCs essentially ARE the canon characters. So instead of having a colorful cast of people in a wacky world, it's more like we all have our own AU of the same exact things happening differently and it's... well. The world hasn't been the fandom focus for a long-ass time and watching it feels like some kind of cultural death lol. And I can't blame anyone, especially not the newer fans, because the world hasn't even been NINTENDO'S focus and they're the ones who made it.

Simultaneously:

“No, I think that’s Buttons’ thing, why? Oh–”

“Because I find myself lost in your eyes– oh, uh–”

Silence, and then together again: 

“Were you trying to use a line on me?”

“Forget I said anything, that didn’t happen–”

Black Pete was halfway through “Gotta-go-bye” by the time he was already out the door, leaving Lucius alone and grinning amidst the rations.

“Hey Pete, feel my shirt.”

Lucius caught him in the ball room the next day, aggressively avoiding him, which was not going to work. The ship wasn’t that big, he couldn’t hide forever, and if they were doing lines now, it was going to be a thing. Pete eyed him cautiously.

“…Why?”

“Oh come on, just trust me! I wanna check something.” Lucius waded around the cannonballs to give Pete easier access, which was all the bait he needed. Pete gave a wary look before reaching up to run the edge of Lucius’ striped shirt between his fingers. “Do you know what that is?”

“…Your shirt?”

Lucius grinned.

“It’s boyfriend material.”

“If you were a vegetable, you’d have to be a cute-cumber.”

Pete dropped that one when restocking the kitchen, and looked so pleased with himself that Lucius did his best to contain his mock-pained groan.

“That was pretty sweet,” Lucius admitted.

“Your hand looks so heavy! Can I carry it for you?”

Pete scoffed. “Really, Lucius? That was terrible.”

And yet he offered his hand, so how terrible was it really?

“I think there’s something wrong with my eyes, babe” Pete approached him in the captain’s quarters, voice full of concern and worry. Oh no.

“What’s wrong?” Lucius saw the flip in expression before Pete even started his reply:

“I can’t keep them off you!”

“Get out.”

“If I could rearrange the alphabet, I’d put ‘U’ and 'I’ together.”

Pete said nothing, and for a moment Lucius wondered whether he hadn’t heard. It was storming, after all, and the waves crashed heavy against the creaking boat while a few of the crew held the library in place. A quick glance at his intended’s scrunched up face reassured him that he’d heard, but was stuck puzzling it out.

“What do you mean 'rearrange’ the alphabet? Isn’t that what writing is?” Frenchie chimed in from his bookshelf. Helpful.

“I’m not sure how to begin with that, so I won’t” he said to Frenchie. “And the point is it’s just a line,” he turned to Pete. “Get it, cos the letters sound like 'you’ -” he pointed “- and 'I’? And they’re togeth- Forget it,” he started to dismiss himself. In the midst of his gesture, another wave struck, and Lucius was only just able to save a row of volumes from scattering.

The next morning, waters now calm but skies still gray, Lucius ventured aboveboard after collecting the books he’d dropped from the corners they’d slid into over the course of the storm. Most of the crew was already up, enjoying the fresh air while they could. He found a place to lean near the mast closest to the door down, in case he needed to run back in. There was a nice breeze, but the cloud cover still made him nervous.

Black Pete came to lean next to him for a moment, wordless but warm. Everyone seemed to be tired from maintaining the ship through the storm. Captain was even wandering around acting like he knew what needed to be done with much less zeal than usual, which was appreciated.

“Oh hey, is the sun coming out?” Pete gasped from next to him. Lucius perked up, looking up and around.

“Really? Where?”

“Oh, my mistake,” Pete started to chuckle, a sly smile breaking across his face. “It was just your smile!”

This was met with groans, but not from Lucius. A cacophony of ‘Shut up!’ ‘Can you two stop already?!’ echoed from all sides, the rest of the crew apparently more than tired of this little game.

For his part, Lucius was too tired to stop himself from beaming right back.

So just for some Early Seasonal Holiday things because I'm tired and thought this might be fun:

-What halloween costumes would your ocs dress up as?

There is actually one thing in 21st Century Unlimited that's sort of relevant to this already!

There aren't any plush of a certain Splatoon character. Engineer wants to give Conductor something special for his birthday, because he has a tendency to put other people's needs over his own on his own birthday (namely, he once made his own birthday cake as a kid and was so excited to make sure everyone got a piece that he forgot to save a slice for himself). So she goes and gets a plush of C.Q. Cumber, the character in question, commissioned for his birthday, and she gives it to him...and it actually never leaves his side after that. He's that touched by it, and it reminds him of her, so it's always with him.
