Promotional cards are only distinct from their base counterparts by the white-colored icon in the top right corner. Promos are just alt art versions of existing cards, but are exceptionally rare as they could not be obtained in booster packs or starter boxes, instead only being available as tournament prizes or coupled with other media.

Two sets of CC TCG promo cards exist, one for each booster release. Every Premier starter box comes with a small poster which includes these alt art cards in its set count, however no such list exists for Crime and Punishment that was released to the public (there is only an equally rare promotional poster).

This card is from the Premier release and was obtained via a first-edition print copy of Viz's release of Case Closed Vol. 7 in 2005. A sticker on the front of the volume claims this version was limited to 8000 copies; the card was contained in a sleeve behind the back cover and is the alt-art release of Premier #120 (rare rarity). Interestingly, the wrong art is used on the sleeve the alt-art version is packaged in, instead depicting the standard release.

Early sale sheets for the Premier set show that Score Entertainment intended to print foil cards for this TCG (1 per booster pack). I imagine this was also the plan for promo cards but have heard from other collectors that they ultimately didn't bother as the TCG had already been written off prior to production (however, info about this game being so scarce... I cannot confirm with a source).

The other day, I went for a run and then decided to punish my heart a little more than the mild 160 it was at and sat in the sauna until it hit 201 bpm while listening to it with my stethoscope. Once I climbed out, sweaty and panting, I sat on the bathroom floor. I didn't think much about it, but this is similar to how I almost accidentally stopped my heart {This time no needle or electric}. It was nice to mess with it without any risk outside of over exertion. While I was cooling down, I hit 150 bpm and exhaled heavily. Something about my chest closing around the pumping muscle caused it to start galloping with only a single valve sound audible. If I inhaled or exhaled any beyond this point, it would regain its rhythm but go back to constant fluttering at when I hit the right point. Of course, liking the sound of skips, I held my breath there as long as I could.

Because I was not even thinking about recording at that moment so I could share, I decided to share a file I stumbled upon from last year when I was playing with a TENS unit's placement until it took over. Once at 180, once at 240bpm The current was high enough you can hear it through the microphone. Do not attempt. I do not do anything like this any more.

Notes on Roman imperialism and colonialism, from Mary Beard's book SPQR, and her documentaries Meet the Romans and Rome: Empire Without Limit:

Roman imperialism was different from most modern cases, like the Spanish conquest of the Americas, Manifest Destiny in the USA, or the Scramble for Africa. For one thing, the Romans don't seem to have created an empire on purpose. Prior to 241 BCE, they didn't even have provinces: the "empire" was really just Italian towns that had signed peace treaties with Rome, on the condition that they provide military support in Rome's future wars.

The first and second Punic Wars (264-201 BCE) were a turning point in which the Romans essentially stationed garrisons in former Carthaginian territories they'd fought in. This is probably when we can start talking of "empire," but the Romans still didn't really think of their empire as a physical dominion they controlled until much later. Rather, they looked at it as "Can we get what we want from this area?" That might be as little as "stop attacking our boats," or as much as "mining all the silver, stealing works of art and covering the land with slave plantations." But it was more like...jumping on opportunities as they happened, not a planned conquest.

Even once Romans started thinking of "their empire" as a physical thing, Roman government was pretty distant and hands-off, except when putting down revolts or enforcing tax collection. There just weren't enough Romans to displace the locals, nor did they really want to leave Italy, so they usually left local institutions intact and struck a deal with local leaders.

It was still exploitative and unjust, mind you - to the point that the Romans set up a special "extortion court" just to prosecute governors who'd abused their power. But the fact that they created this court at all was oddly...progressive for the ancient world? Like, it was an acknowledgement that Rome had responsibilities to its non-citizen subjects. There was no counterpart of that in Greece, Egypt, or anywhere else. And although the system was very corrupt by modern standards, there were cases of Roman officials being punished, most famously when Cicero prosecuted Gaius Verres.

There was no state policy to "Romanize" local cultures or wipe out the natives. When Rome created colonies, such colonies usually coexisted with the locals instead of replacing them. In general, Roman officials wanted to tax and profit off subjugated peoples, not make everyone Roman. Romanization seems to have been a consequence of intermarriage, the use of Latin as a common language, literary tradition, and social prestige.

One of the key pillars of Roman imperialism was their incorporation of other peoples. First it was by making alliances with defeated Italians instead of annexing them; then by selectively extending citizenship or semi-citizenship to key allies and friendly towns; then to all of Italy; then gradually to more and more places across the empire. They didn't do this out of the goodness of their hearts - it was pure pragmatism, to increase Rome's military power and nullify threats. And they could still be xenophobic and discriminatory! But Rome's military and economic success were inextricably entwined with its ability to enfranchise new peoples as "Roman."

All of this isn't meant to downplay the problems with the Roman model. But I think it's valuable to understand what Rome had in common with more modern imperialist powers, and how it differed.

Anyway. I'm only up to chapter eight of SPQR, and the year 44 BCE. Some of these points might change after that date! And the book is a very broad overview, so don't hesitate to add nuances you think I might've missed.

i feel like posts like these are based off of a sense of well-meaning anger but miss the point in a particularly radical feminist way and make people up just to be mad at them. Anyone [in a honest discussion setting, a non-tumblr discussion, academic settings primarily!] saying men are lonely is personally diagnosing a problem with patriarchy, not saying women don't experience it too. it's just pointing out the way that patriarchy has inner workings that differentiate, reward and punish even within the privileged class of men. Male privilege is intersectional and thus very circumstancial. I'm not saying OP is wrong, but there's a wayyy more nuanced take to be had if we understand that 1) the fact that we have so much reading on masculinities that Highlights the need for a new approach to masculinity that doesn't both drive men to and excuse men's violence, and 2) male privilege is tied to 'doing' gender correctly as well as the legal, optical, social, medical, etc, status of manhood (thank you Butler) so it's not like being cis magically makes anyone violent, smth smth Bourdieu's habitus theory applied to a masculine habitus that includes violence

The Ultimate Ramadan Dua' List - Shaykh Navaid Aziz​

I looked at the greatest needs we have in this day and age and selected 7 dua’s from the Quran and Sunnah that I feel would be in the best interests of every Muslim.

It would be ideal to print this list (or have it on your phone) and keep it handy at the time of iftar. Likewise, please add to your list anything else that you would like, especially that which your heart desires.

For your convenience I have included the Arabic, English transliteration, and English translation.

I pray Allah accepts from us all, and makes us from those who are forgiven and pardoned this Ramadan and entered into alfirdaws in the hereafter. Ameen.

DUA 1:

للّهُـمَّ إِنِّي أَعْوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الهَـمِّ وَ الْحُـزْنِ، والعًجْـزِ والكَسَلِ والبُخْـلِوالجُـبْنِ، وضَلْـعِ الـدَّيْنِ وغَلَبَـةِ الرِّجال Allahumma inni ‘audhubika min al-hammi wal huzani,wal ‘ajzi wal kasali, wal bukhli wal jubni, wa dala’ad-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijâl. O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being over powered by men.

DUA 2:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِيالدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ Rubbana aatina fid-dunya hassana,wa fil akhirati hassana, waqina ‘adhab an-nar. Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. {Surat Al Baqarah 2: Verse 201}

DUA 3:

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَالصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِرَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِيوَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ Rubbi j’alnee muqeem as-salati wa mindhuriyyati. Rubbana, wa taqabbal dua’. Rubbana ighfir li wa li walidayya wa lilmu’mineena yawma yaqoom ul-hisab My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established. {Surat Ibrahim 14: Verse 40-41}

DUA 4:

اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّـي أسْـأَلُـكَ العَـفْوَوَالعـافِـيةَ في الدُّنْـيا وَالآخِـرَة اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّـي أسْـأَلُـكَالعَـفْوَ وَالعـافِـيةَ في ديني وَدُنْـيايَ وَأهْـلي وَمالـي ، اللّهُـمَّاسْتُـرْ عـوْراتي وَآمِـنْ رَوْعاتـي ،اللّهُـمَّ احْفَظْـني مِن بَـينِ يَدَيَّوَمِن خَلْفـي وَعَن يَمـيني وَعَن شِمـالي ، وَمِن فَوْقـي ، وَأَعـوذُ بِعَظَمَـتِكَأَن أُغْـتالَ مِن تَحْتـي Allahumma inni as-alukaal-‘afwa wal ‘afiyata fid dunya wal akhira. Allahumma inni as-aluka al ‘afwa walafiyata fee deeni wa dunyaya wa ahlee wa malee. Allahumma ustur ‘awrati wa aminrow’ati. Allahumma ahfadhnee min bayni yadayya min khalfi wa ‘an yameeni wa ‘anshimali wa min fowqi wa a’oodhu bi ‘adhmatika an aghtaala min tahti. “O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this life and the next. O Allah,I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, and my family and my wealth. O Allah, veil my weaknesses and set at ease my dismay. O Allah, preserve me from the front and from behind and on my right and on my left and from above, and I take refuge with You lest I be swallowed up by the earth.”

DUA 5:

اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّـي أَسْأَلُـكَ عِلْمـاً نافِعـاً وَرِزْقـاً طَيِّـباً ،وَعَمَـلاً مُتَقَـبَّلاً Allahuma inni as-aluka‘ilman nafi’an wa rizqan tayyiban wa ‘amalan matqaballa. “O Allah, I ask You for knowledge which is beneficial and sustenance which is good, and deeds which are acceptable. [to be said after giving salam for the fajr prayer].”

DUA 6:

اللّهُـمَّ أَعِـنِّي عَلـى ذِكْـرِكَ وَشُكْـرِك ، وَحُسْـنِ عِبـادَتِـك Allahuma a’inni ‘aladhikrika washukrika wahusni‘ibadatik. “O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best of manners.”

DUA 7:

اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّـي أَسْأَلُـكَ الجَـنَّةَ وأََعوذُ بِـكَ مِـنَ الـنّار Allahuma inni as-aluka al-jannata wa a’udhubika min an-nar. “O Allah, I ask You to grant me Paradise and I take refuge in You from the Fire.”

Promotional cards are only distinct from their base counterparts by the white-colored icon in the top right corner. Promos are just alt art versions of existing cards, but are exceptionally rare as they could not be obtained in booster packs or starter boxes, instead only being available as tournament prizes or coupled with other media.

Two sets of CC TCG promo cards exist, one for each booster release. Every Premier starter box comes with a small poster which includes these alt art cards in its set count, however no such list exists for Crime and Punishment that was released to the public (there is only an equally rare promotional poster).

This card is from the Crime and Punishment release and was obtained via a first-edition print copy of Viz's release of Case Closed Vol. 9 in 2005. The card was contained in a sleeve behind the back cover and is the alt-art release of Crime and Punishment #18 (common rarity).

Early sale sheets for the Premier set show that Score Entertainment intended to print foil cards for this TCG (1 per booster pack). I imagine this was also the plan for promo cards but have heard from other collectors that they ultimately didn't bother as the TCG had already been written off prior to production (however, info about this game being so scarce... I cannot confirm with a source).
