I keep getting so excited whenever Rebecca, Jamie, or Nate are on screen. Something about "reformed villains" gets me.

eleven is fascinating to me because he came right off the back of tens horrible traumatic breakdown after he lost everything and he immediately tried to establish himself as the opposite of that. he is funny and goofy and almost childlike, and he bulldozes on in his adventures with amy like nothing happened at all. but then something happens and his masks slips and it's like oh! the core of this man is still anger. he is so so angry all of the time and this façade is the only thing stopping him from being consumed by it. he isn't over any of it and he hasn't moved on. he is wearing a fez and laughing but under that all that exists is age old anger and grief and it is going to consume him

HOLY SHIT, WHY IS THERE A DETCO REFERENCE IN MY URUSEI YATSURA??
Anyway, this reference is really funny and cute (and I think some episodes ago there was another reference but I'm not entirely sure for that one) since Detco also has a bunch of references to UY as well (this how I discovered Detco in the first place btw), so it's kind of like the UY remake is returning the favor :)
This is only one of them, there's a whole section in the UY wiki which lists most of them (which you can find here).

More official/proper ref of my Metalocalypse s/i 💖🫶💖🫶💖 I needed another milf for the books, I'm obsessed with it guys!
Like I said before she's the manager for @hotrodharts and @1980ssunflower and does a kickass job of it! She's meant to be something of a parallel to Charles whom she has THICK sexual tension with and possibly a mysterious past history with? :0 oooooo~ either way she's very fond of the boys, especially Toki, and in my dreams they see the both of them as parental figures 😊
EDIT: original meme by @tarraerae on Twitter 🫶
Flat colors!

Rewatching the earlier, and even pilots episodes, of Ninjago are so WILD man. First of all, you notice all the things that are just plain forgotten about or pushed aside in later seasons. Kai originally being the main character, sure, we all know that one, but Cole was heavily implied to be, or become, the leader of the Ninja, that was Cole’s thing. Zane was automatically described with having a sixth seer sense, when nowadays it shows up very, very infrequently. Lloyd used to basically be the Avatar, does anyone remember that? This kid was just the Avatar.
And then you remember the silly things. Like how the skeleton army was once a threat. Like...the skeletons. We battled a giant snake, smaller snakes, robot armies, sentient video games, Garmadon a billion different times, the Overlord, Oni...and the skeletons used to be a worthy adversary. The skeletons.
Did you all remember that Cole’s earth dragon used to...breathe earth? I’ve been forced to remember. Rocky used to breathe earth as a form of attack. It was shown through brown swirly wisps in that beautiful, incredibly shitty 2011 effect. The Underworld used to be implied to be the place where all dead people went, or at least the bad ones. We never heard of a Departed Realm. Do we remember the time Cole had a scene that was a direct parody of Michael Jackson? I sure do. Genuinely the highlight simply because I don’t know how to describe the emotion I felt upon seeing it.

Happy 31st anniversary, DS9!
Because 31 is the Sloan number, I hereby challenge the fandom to collectively post at least 31 new fanworks tagged "Luther Sloan" on ao3 this year (2024) to celebrate! >:)
(The original air date of the first DS9 episode was Jan 3, 1993.)

The parallel between the shot of Alison and Mike first approaching the house and them approaching in their old age is beautiful. In both cases, they pause to take it in, the place that will be their future and the place that holds their past and family. In both, their love for and closeness with each other is clear, arms linked or hands held. But the former shot is from a low angle, the house towering over them, and the latter straight on. The house has gone from being something that holds them in place, something they are constantly battling to look after and afford, to just an old home, which they're able to return to as often as they wish, a place they can love without worry. They move out but they don't move on. They have a usual room. Alison's snippet of conversation with the ghosts wouldn't be out of place in any episode. The house is still a home of sorts to them, the ghosts are still their family, they just visit it and them regularly, rather than letting the house define their life the way it did when they lived there.

i genuinely love when you can tell an older show was Not made with high quality video viewing in mind. i am watching knight rider and constantly seeing all the little mistakes they surely brushed under the rug thinking nobody would see them on their crunchy little CRTs back in the 80s, that are huge attention grabbers now in HD fullscreen on my 3 foot computer monitor
the biggest one of course is all the drivers/controllers for the (in-universe) self driving car, kitt. there's guys tucked down in the footwells who can't always stay out of the shot. there's a guy who has a Car Seat Suit to blend in and look like the drivers seat from a distance, but you can always tell when that's the method they're using for a particular shot because its so much thicker than the passenger seat next to it and the headrest is missing it's cutout section. in at least one instance he starts taking the suit off too early, on a focus shot of the damn car, so its REAL visible.
all the extremely obvious stunt drivers or performers who look nothing like the character they're supposed to be
props, such as animals, vanishing from the car interior for stunt/race sequences.
the production crew (or their shadows) being visible in the background. only at a glance, but its especially hilarious in shots where nobody else is supposed to be around
the camera panning out from a sound stage set far enough that you can actually see over the edges of the set and into the stage they were filming in. mostly this happens with their truck trailer mobile unit thing.
this one isn't a mistake but every time the car "turbo jumps" they CLEARLY hide the ramp behind another car, a prop, the environment, and its just. so charming. sometimes its blatantly on screen just for a moment. like... of Course in real life this car isn't magically leaping 20 feet, of course its a ramp, but it's still so silly and fun to be reminded of how they were doing those stunts to begin with.
also not really a mistake but related, the bracket they keep on the front of the car for stunt work.... is just left on half the time. cuz it's a pain to take on and off.
and there are more examples that are more unique that haven't cemented themselves in my head well yet, but these are the more notable or common things i see and it's really charming. if i'm not giggling to myself noticing the "seams" and flaws and so human imperfections of your show or movie what EVEN is the point. hollywood is too flashy these days i think!

i honestly dont hate the ATLA adaptation but im definitely not entirely happy. when comparing it to the original they made a lot of the core ideas, arcs, conflicts, and characters kind of just….flat. and they also changed a lot of central motivations for characters and the things that made them so excellent, and misinterpreted a bunch of them, so yeah. some things were too rushed, and it all took away from a lot of the things that made atla such a meaningful show and a powerful teacher
that being said, it was kinda expected because they had to condense the whole thing into a few episodes, and ATLA is rly not a show for which you can do that easily, so i gotta cut them some slack. nothing will live up to the OG and thats that. BUT there were also some GREAT bits of acting in there PLZ can we talk about it because certain characters were captured really well (FOR THEIR ADAPTED SCENARIOS.) as well as great representation
i would honestly not mind a second season because it really was not all that bad as a show, independent of the original. it was engaging and had just enough humor and anger and sadness to be a well balanced show overall, i dont think its aim was to be a perfect recreation of the original
