(A note: please know that when I share sermons from my church, I’m not here to proselytize. I am an agnostic and the furthest thing from an evangelist; I don’t believe in forcing my own exploration of deconstruction and faith onto others, but I do like to share what I find valuable. Middle is an interfaith universalist church that has a central message of love and even uses extra-canonical texts, something I’ve never before been encouraged to read and understand for myself by any other church. In this particular service the sermon, communion, and call to join were all delivered by trans men—Middle doesn’t just pay lip service to “acceptance,” they pass the mic over and listen. ♥️ )

Black While Trans
The full version of last night’s Black Queer Town Hall discussion on being black while trans. Lots of extras.
youtube
Though it was a small sidebar of their discussion, I appreciate them pointing out that the TERF hatred Jo Karen has been spreading in the midst of a BLM movement is only something a white woman would do, and by doing so, she’s specifically upholding white supremacist values and exclusionary tactics. Pointing out that what she’s doing in this moment is not just an attack on women, it’s also deeply racist.

A Queer Vision of Love and Marriage
Married activists Tiq and Kim Katrin Milan have imagined their marriage -- as a transgender man and a queer cis woman. In this video they question our misconceptions about love and marriage and offer a vision of an inclusive, challenging love. Kim says:
“So often what we are told is The Golden Rule: That we should treat people the way we want to be treated. But the problem with that is that is that it assumes that we are the standad for ther people, and we’re not.”
She continues: “We need to treat people the way that they want to be treated. This means we have to ask. I couldn’t assume the knd of love Tiq needed was the kind of love I needed. So I asked him everything: About his fears, his insecurities, and we started from there.”

OP Original Plumbing: The Best of Ten Years of Trans Male Culture (Call #: 306.768 Op1) Independently published from 2009 to 2019, #OriginalPlumbing grew from a Bay Area zine to a nationally acclaimed print quarterly dedicated to trans masculinity. For nearly ten years, the magazine was the premier resource focused on #FTM and #transmasculine experiences, celebrations, and imaginations, featuring writing on both playful and political topics like selfies, bathrooms, and safer sex; interviews with queer icons such as #JanetMock, #SilasHoward, and Ian Harvie; and visual art, photography, and short fiction. In celebration of the magazine's ten-year run, this essential collection compiles the best of all twenty issues. Selections are reprinted in full color, with an introduction by activist Tiq Milan and a new preface by the founding editors, Amos Mac, and Rocco Kayiatos

2. Advocate Tiq Milan on the “invisibility” of trans men in the media and the significance of Elliot Page coming out as trans and nonbinary
After actor Elliot Page came out as trans and nonbinary, GLAAD national spokesperson Tiq Milan remarked on ABC’s Nightline, “There's definitely invisibility when we talk about trans people, particularly trans men, particularly when we're talking about representation in media.”

3. Attorney Chase Strangio on his groundbreaking legal battles and the need for trans representation in the courtroom
Chase Strangio, the deputy director for transgender justice at the American Civil Liberties Union, was part of the legal team behind the Supreme Court’s landmark June 15 ruling that LGBTQ employees are protected from discrimination by their employers under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Time Magazine recognized Strangio’s work and named him as one of the magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020.
