Transiting Mars enters Pisces

Friday, March 23 - Tuesday, April 30, 2024

Pisces isn’t exactly Mars’ favorite place to be - it favors direct action, not swimming around (apparently) aimlessly - but this isn’t as challenging a position as, say, Mars in Taurus or Libra (deteiment), or Cancer (fall).

It’s easy to make the most/best of it, this time, with three very nice transiting sextiles in April. Although just like a in fairy tale, there are some difficulties to be overcome first! We have to earn that happily ever after.

Physical strength - can be a little diluted, or at least feel like it’s sapped. We have to stay alert for sneaky ways our strength dissipates. This isn’t the best time to start anything that requires direct action - but it’s great for the creative visualization piece.

Energy levels - with any mutable sign, Mars’ energy will fluctuate between full-bore and fast asleep. Ditto about vigilance for dissipation. Our intuition (if we let it) will let us know when it’s time for a break.

Sexuality - now, this can be wonderful! Romantic, courtly, chivalrous, all the goodies. Not always a lot of staying power, and we sometimes get too caught up in the vision of what’s happening, to reality.

How we go after what we want - often forced take circuitous routes, willingly or not, the journey ends up being at least as important as the destination. Or maybe the journey is the destination…? Can also go very “behind the scenes,” working indirectly and using manipulation.

A day or two on either side of these aspects should be sufficient.

Monday, April 1 - Tuesday, April 2:

Wednesday, April 10 - Mars/Pisces conjunct Saturn/Pisces, 14°40’. Since it’s Pisces, this isn’t so much Saturn slamming on the brakes, as Mars realizing we haven’t even been moving. It’s time to take spiritual stock of the situation.

Tuesday, April 16 - Mars/Pisces sextile Ceres/Capricorn, 19°11’. Can be fertile, so if you don’t want a baby take precautions! Nice for puttering around the house. We’re a bit more sensitive to family members and can build rapport with them.

Sunday, April 28 - Mars/Pisces conjunct Neptune/Pisces, 28°52’. A vision quest, or a crisis of faith? Or both? A little Piscean ambiguity is an appropriate way to end the transit, especially if Mars has learned that not everything is on/off, good/bad binary. (The next time these two are conjunct, April 2026, it’s going to be in Aries. Mercury and Saturn will be there, too. That’s when we may have to take a stand.)

October 2023 Important Dates

AKA my notes on The Astrology Podcast's October forecast, hosted by Chris Brennan, Austin Coppock, and Nicholas Polimenakos. Notice how the charts look different? Today Chris is using AstroGold for Mac OS instead of his usual SolarFire for PC (same developers). Working title for the month is "the wobbly scales."

September recap: the Venus & Mercury stations have corresponded with new celebrity birth data, including an update for Dua Lipa's birth time and a time for Elon Musk. The WGA strike, which began under Mercury retrograde in Gemini, has come to a tentative resolution just as the Mercury rx in Virgo ended.

Jupiter's transit into Taurus has put him in contact with Uranus, and we've seen an explosive change in laws and rules with other organized labor strikes, such as UAW, airline workers, and fast food/service employees. We've got 7 more months of Jupiter in Taurus copresent Uranus, enabling changes in contrast to Saturn's negating influence from Aquarius & Capricorn over the past few years. Think "delayed revolts." Nicholas predicts labor will be an important factor in this year's election, based off configurations of previous labor actions.

The Full Moon in Pisces conjunct Saturn corresponded to flooding at California's Burning Man festival (symbolically negating the fire for which it is named), and disastrous floods in Europe and Libya.

Auspicious Elections for October: October 1 at 11:25 AM with Sagittarius rising (has passed by time of posting; apologies) October 2 at 12:20 AM with Cancer rising

Around 12:30AM local time you'll have Cancer rising and the Moon exalted in Taurus in the 11th house (whole signs), just after a conjunction with Jupiter and applying to a square with Venus in the 2nd house of finance. This is a good chart for friends, groups, alliances with the Ascendant ruler Moon in the 11th house with Jupiter, and the ruler of the 11th house in the 2nd tying friend groups and finances together. Saturn in the 9th house makes this chart not recommended for foreign travel, education, and publishing.

October will be pretty intense, with the two eclipses and heavy Pluto involvement. Keywords include power plays, transformation, and concealed movements.

October 4th - Mercury enters Libra Mercury, Venus, and Mars all change signs before the middle of the month, giving us a theme of major beginnings and major endings. When Venus moves into Virgo in a few days, she'll be in mutual reception with Mercury. Previously the two planets were on separate journeys, both retrograde but not communicating, so we'll have cerebral and social functions in harmony again. (A/N: Venus is fall in Virgo, but this Mercury contact significantly mitigates that lack of dignity.)

October 8th - Venus enters Virgo, Mars square Retrograde Pluto We've been moving back and forth over the summer, and will now settle into how things are going to be. Early October contains the the tail end of the Venus retrograde, as she finally passes the degree where she stationed & exits her post-rx shadow, as well as the sign overall, where she's spent an inordinate amount of time (she entered Leo on June 5th). We may see events from as far back as 5 months finally reaching a resolution.

Venus also opposes Saturn right after her ingress (Oct. 8th-10th), and in fact both benefics oppose one of the malefics this month (Mars will oppose Jupiter around the time of our 2nd eclipse). Saturn in Pisces has been weighty, highlighting big, sad things we may not be able to change but must bear nonetheless. Virgo Venus, in an awkward but manageable position for practical help, confronts Pisces Saturn's burdens to our souls. Austin compares Venus's recent transits to exothermic reactions in chemistry, which give off heat, but in Virgo she'll be much more endothermic, drawing heat in.

At the same time, Mars reaches 27° of Libra, putting him in a square to Pluto at 27 Capricorn. Mars is conjunct the South Node, and his ruler Venus is opposite Saturn. The solar eclipse a week later will also occur in the third decan of Libra. This may combine to feel like we're trying to juggle too many balls. Even if you're good at spinning plates, you can only keep track of so many. Inner conflicts, intensifying relationships, and a need for caution are all in order. It would do well to put down in one of the plates, as Mars is in no position to power through all of this (detriment in Libra, South Node encouraging release).

If there's an opportunity to use Mars-Pluto constructively, it comes after an honest assessment of the facts. Chris brings the image of not knowing your own strength or needing to exercise restraint, like a gorilla holding a kitten. We need to know the power dynamic--what we can and cannot do--but the square aspect makes it hard to see directly what's going on (A/N: symbolically it's cross-purposes or seeing events in your periphery). We need to know what the scale of conflict is. Austin uses the example of holding a rope around a rampaging elephant: maybe it's best to let go.

With Pluto relating to money and the US (Sibly) chart having Sagittarius rising, our hosts also predict some kind of "market correction" (trouble) in the US economy, and/or a government shutdown over budget. Mars conjunct South Node in Libra has corresponded to economic trouble of varying intensities (every 19 years with some skips), namely the crash in 1987--which was also on this Libra-Aries eclipse axis.

October 10th - Pluto stations Direct The US Pluto return is still happening since the planet regressed into Capricorn, posing questions of whether a certain impeached ex-president will see some success in the 2024 election. We're also raring for Pluto's (second) ingress into Aquarius in January. Our hosts think the AI story is related to the new Pluto sign, and Google is starting to release hints about a major system to compete with or outclass ChatGPT (text, image, and more).

October 12th - Mars enters Scorpio This is one of his home signs, and he'll immediately trine Saturn over at the beginning of Pisces. Mars working with Saturn gives us drive and determination, the union of impulse and staying power. More generally, Mars in Scorpio connotes precision strikes and the patient, persistent hunter. We can identify the point of weakness and direct all our force at that exact spot.

There's also a brooding quality to Mars in Scorpio. Things brew under the surface. The intensity cultivated here can easily turn inward rather than outward. Any planet in its own sign has high standards, so be careful not to take them out on yourself. Famous Mars in Scorpio natives include Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, and Taylor Swift--think raw emotions (literally in the vocal style of the former two).

October 14th - Annular Solar Eclipse at 21 Libra

As soon as Moon conjoins the Sun & South Node, her next aspect is a square to Pluto, bringing Plutonic significations into the eclipse. You've only got two hands; are you holding onto something that's past its life cycle?

In general eclipses signify the end of a major chapter, and with it the start of a new thing. When we let things go they don't just disappear--in fact, they may assume a more natural, harmonious state. Instead of holding onto something that takes a lot of energy, let things fall as they may. Whatever we're concerned about, it won't go away, as in 6 months another eclipse will respond to this call. Don't let the sunk-cost fallacy get you: you've put in a lot of time and effort, but it's time to step back and let things assume their natural shape.

October 20th - Sun conjunct Mercury At 27 Libra, they're also squaring Pluto. Generally Mercury-Pluto contacts correspond to major disclosures. Expect investigative journalists to reveal new evidence around this time, and in light of transits earlier this year Austin says specifically this will be the third part to an ongoing story. Think "deep state," as in, actors behind the scenes or in the foundation of events rather than what we see on the surface.

October 22nd - Mercury enters Scorpio At this time, Venus also trines Jupiter from 12° of Virgo to 12° of Taurus. Jupiter being in Venus's sign strengthens this helpful aspect even more, and the Moon even goes into Capricorn soon after to give us a grand trine in the earth signs. We'll get a brief reprieve from some of the more intense configurations this month. Enjoy the simple pleasures: a nice stew, a hot bath, some tea from the garden.

October 23rd - Sun enters Scorpio

October 28th - Umbral Lunar Eclipse in Taurus

This is our last eclipse in Taurus for the next couple decades. The Scorpio-Taurus axis eclipses (beginning in 2021) have corresponded to major celebrity scandals, as well as the skyrocketing prices of food worldwide. Bitcoin, FTX, and other finance crashes have occurred to the Taurus eclipses, a sign which indicates money and food. The increase in labor activities during Jupiter in Taurus will likely also see developments from this eclipse. Between the eclipses, Uranus, and Saturn, fixed sign people (suns and angles especially) have been getting a beating the last few years, and Nicholas says "congrats, you've made it!" (Though Saturn will retrograde into Aquarius soon, and then Pluto will transit that sign for the next 20 years or so).

Mars conjoins Mercury and opposes Jupiter during this eclipse, bringing even more tension. Mercury-Mars indicates arguments and destroyed or corrupted roads and communications, or on the positive side, incisive remarks we needed to hear. Mercury in Scorpio also loves investigating a good mystery and cracking the code. We can get major investigative journalism, or obsession and seeing connections that aren't there.

This is a Full Moon and a North Node eclipse, making it easy to lose your head in all the excitement. Austin advises trying to keep your head cool. Don't go with the flow, because the flow is crazy! This eclipse is the end of a year-and-a-half long saga in Taurus and Scorpio, bringing the last installment of that arc in our lives. Chris has an episode called "eclipses as transits in astrology" where he goes through people's charts and talks about the two-year sagas that are enacted with the nodes in a particular pair of signs.

October 29th - Mercury conjunct Mars (exact) (not pictured)

October 31st - Venus trines Uranus (not pictured) From 21 Virgo to 21 Taurus. Think "I'm here for a good time, not a long time!" for Halloween. We ended September with Venus squaring Uranus, and now they're finally trining. After all this month's tension, we deserve to let loose a little. Nicholas says there are hidden pleasures inside oft-orderly Venus in Virgo, whereas Austin compares it to ordering a different item off the menu at your favorite restaurant. Mars in Scorpio is great for Halloween, scary movie viewings, and seeing beauty in the dark side of things.

The next 8th months of your life | mars in gemini

Mars, the planet of action and vigor, will soon be moving into the sign of gemini and it will stay here for 8 months. This prolonged stay is because mars will be going retrograde during its time in Gemini.

Martian energy is about facing things head on. Gemini is symbolized by the twins and is also known as “two-faced”. The next 8 months is an opportunity to face the other side of you, the side that remains in the shadows and asks to be seen.

August 20th - August 25th

This is the most potent time for healing. This is because mars in Gemini will be ruled by mercury in virgo. Mercury is exalted there, Virgo is the sign of healing, and mars will be in the first decan of gemini, which is mercury ruled. Face your wounds through therapy and analyzation.

Mars will re-enter this decan on December 24th.

September 9th through October 2nd | 10° - 20° (♊︎)

An auspicious to alleviate wounds that have been created in relationships, relates to love, or relates to women/women hood. Mars will be in a Venus ruled decan and ruled by mercury rx, which will be traveling from libra to the Venus ruled decan of virgo. The sun and Venus will also be in libra. Aid yourself by prioritizing your peace and creating, especially handmade art and poetry.

Mars will re-enter this decan on November 26th during its retrograde and stay there until December 23rd. Mars direct will enter this decan again on February 2nd, 2023 through march 4th, 2023.

October 3rd to November 25th

Mars will be in the Uranus/Saturn ruled decan of Gemini. Hurt from people in positions of authority, friends/community, and things that repressed your individuality may come up to be recognized. Accept your uniqueness, power, and freedom.

Mars direct will enter this decan again on march 4th, 2023 and stay there until march 25th.

Mars will go retrograde on October 30th. This means that the past can be brought up, you will be tested, and, may get distracted from the path, but its also an opportunity to look even deeper within yourself.

At the end of this 8 month long transit, mars and mercury will be in mutual reception and mercury will be conjunct Chiron in Aries. This shows the potential healing success that has taken place. It also portrays that the other side of a person has finally been recognized.

Ok so this is interesting! The con is October 12th-13th which is a Friday the 13th! But get this, this is what’s projected for the 13th: mars trine Saturn rx (Scorpio-Pisces 1 degree).

A perfect day to sign a contract, and in so doing, solidly a new relationship that is likely to grow to be productive, stimulating, lucrative and enjoyable.

AND the next day:

October 14th- new moon solar eclipse in Libra at 21 degrees.

A new partnership or collaboration can be now possible- in love (marriage) or career. Details may take time to iron out. Venus will take center stage and will oppose Saturn so the alliance will grow slowly. Mars, friendly to Saturn, promises progress. Uranus + Pluto also in rare agreement. Suggest a surprisingly strong financial outcome.

So I’ll take a minute to do a little post on this, since you’re inspiring me. It’s really important when you’re looking at transits that you’re not just looking at what this sky is doing with itself, you also need to look at what it’s doing with someone’s chart- whoever’s chart you’re looking at -in this particular case the eclipse is happening in libra in the 12th house whole signs. You can see it on the left there; an eclipse is when the full moon or the new moon is conjunct the nodes. In this case it’s the new moon conjunct the south node there in libra. Mercury is also there and so is Mars, so these are also significant and will play a factor in the interesting things going on with his chart. The first thing I see is these transit are right on top of his Pluto and Juno. They are trining his Sun and they’re sextile his Neptune. The important takeaway here for this eclipse is that it’s going to give positive influence to who he is in his Sun, and who he’s seen as in his Neptune; he’s going to have a light shown on these aspects of him and they’re going to ignite his desire to be seen authentically, and in particular with Uranus sitting on his Chiron like that, it’s gonna matter a lot how he’s seen online. Uranus is inconjunct his Juno-Pluto so he’s not happy right now with the perception of him online as it particularly relates to his choices in partner.

The Pluto Juno conjunction that he has in Libra, I have always read as the transformative nature of either his wife, or search his for his wife and the harmony it has with who he is- his Sun -and his public image- his Neptune. The transiting eclipse is going to ignite that, so this is a significant moment for him in his journey to meet his partner.

When doing these calendars, frequently the astrologers will just put one thing going on for the day but you need to remember that usually, unless it’s the Moon, the thing you’re talking about is going on for more than a day. Like the interactions with Saturn and Mars; it’s going to be going on for a while because Mars doesn’t move that fast to fall out of the trine in a day. As you can see, there’re a lot of other things that these two are hitting in the position that they’re in. For instance, Mars is also square in his south node, which Pluto is sitting right on top of and has been for a while. It’s forming a trine to his mercury, it’s squaring his north node, it’s ‘bending the nodes’, and Saturn in turn, is squaring his Mars, squaring his Uranus and ascendant, and trining his mercury. So there are a lot of things going on in his chart specifically that aren’t happening just with this Saturn-Mars interaction here. The most important thing is that they’re both positively aspecting Mercury. Which means that he’s going to get a boost and a drive to speak his truth, to think about his passions and his karma positively. Saturn squaring his Mars and his Uranus-AC conjunction is going to really drive him to be himself and to be authentic in who he is and the way that Mars is bending the nodes is going to really get him thinking and acting towards his purpose, which Pluto’s already doing also by sitting on the south node, but this is gonna be a more agitating factor versus Pluto’s transformative control of the south node that’s a more supportive, stabilizing thing.

Libra in particular is a sign about fairness and balance. It’s not a coincidence that Justice in reverse came up in that reading that I did. The concept of fairness and balance is a very big thing for him right now. justice is some thing that he wants in his life and will seek out. This is the time for him to be himself, to come in to his purpose, to be authentic in who he is and how he’s perceived, to move forward with what he wants and what drives him into coming to his transformation. All of the major, supporting planets are set up to help him do that and to agitate him so that he will want to do that.

A quick impromptu synastry analysis of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. because it's perf

Have you guys noticed that Sarah Michelle Gellar is now everywhere on social media? I watched her on Jimmy Fallon and she said she's been married to Freddie Prinze jr for 20 years! So I immediately looked at her chart, unfortunately it's untimed (now, astro-seek states an Aquarius rising and the source is astro.com but that one has an untimed chart so idk where's that alleged 03:08am is from soooo). BUT, I looked at his and he has Jupiter in the 7th house! Exalted by triplicity in Aries! (god I love aries jupiter).

So I thought, THERE'S HOPE FOR ME with my 7th house Jupiter 😁

I got super stoked because once again, astrology worked. Also, their synastry is bomb (and I was supposed to do something else right now but I have to talk about it).

First off, what I've already talked about, he has Jupiter in the 7th in Aries. She has Sun in Aries conjunct it. If you've ever seen me talk about these two planets together in fire signs, you may know that I like to call this combo a "royal aspect" - Sun is exalted in Aries, Jupiter is, like I've already said, exalted by triplicity. Have them together connected in any way (can as well be by synastry) and you're spritzed with glitter and confetti. Like, congrats, you've won the lottery.

Another nice thing that immediately jumped out at me is his Sun being conjunct her Moon (now we don't know the exact degree of her Moon but it's around there). A person's Moon in the sign of the other's Sun sign in synastry chart is weak-at-the-knees aspect but also v friendly and nurturing: it's the yin and yang, it's just very complimentary. There's also her Mars, which can add a bit of tension (and a bit of tension is always needed), but the rest of their aspects are harmonious so it's all cool.

Her Venus is conjunct his descendant, which is v nice, their Mercuries are sextiled by sign; so are their Venuses. Both have mutable Mars placements so they're squared and so are their Moons, but remember that harmonious benefic aspects (especially Jupiter as it's very forgiving) in synastry can smooth out any difficulties. And speaking of which, they have compatible Jupiters in sextiled signs, and her Gemini Jupiter must feel nice for his Gemini Moon 🤗

Now that's not all, look at the chart of their wedding:

Jupiter in Leo, echoing their Sun-Jupiter aspect in Aries (IF she is an Aqua rising, that'd be her 7th house). Moon was either in Gemini or Cancer, both fine considering Gemini would be his Moon return and Cancer is obviously Moon's domicile sign. Saturn's influence over the Moon shouldn't be a problem since it trines a domicile Libra Venus and Aquarius Uranus, making a grand trine (that's like an exciting energy, yet grounded and harmonious). Mercury is sextiling Jupiter (both planets stand for legal stuff) and the Sun-Mars conjunction in Virgo mirrors their conjunction in the opposite sign of Pisces. The north node in the sign of his natal Moon/Mars and her Jupiter seems meaningful as well - the north node transiting natal Moon can point to changes in home/living situation or some sort of exaltation surrounding one's emotions or women in one's life.

Additional info is that they got engaged in April 2001 when Jupiter was in Gemini (her Jupiter return) and - what's VERY interesting, Venus was retrograding in Aries - she has a natal rx Aries Venus. But also that Venus was retrograding in his 7th house! I know, fascinating.

This just some personal astro observations:

🔩😒Ever since my Moon started transiting Virgo (which in Sidereal is my natal Moon sign), I've been doing more natural looks. Like I wear gloss versus lipsticks, monotone eye shadow vs glittery ones and even more flowy dresses and outfits.

🔩😒When it was in Leo (so the past two years). I was a lot more expressive with my clothing choices. I also was a lot more bolder in general, now I'm more laid back and less concerned about how others perceive me.

🔩😒I will say I did a chart for my senior year of high school (which was actually garbage speaking that I missed half due to physical and mental health issues), and I'm not surprised to find my transit Moon was in Scorpio. I was also a Scorpio Rising that year. I went through so much shit that idk if I'm ready for the next Scorpio Moon transit I'll have.

Another set of notes about that particular year's chart:

🔩😒Tw Death- I had a close friend die that year (Pluto was in my 3rd house)

🔩😒I learned what I wanted to do in life (North Node/Sun conjunction in my 11th house) after having one of the best jobs I've ever had (I worked with young kids/babies and the elderly)

🔩😒I fell out with a bunch of other friends (conflicting schedules, being left out of things, miscommunication, and our lives just going different ways) (Mercury Retrograde in 11th)

This a side note and maybe a general observation but: Maybe Mercury Rx in a chart can show the type of people you struggle to communicate with that year.

Another one in terms of the 11th house but Rx planets can hint at endings of friendships due to the planets theme.

🔩😒Since Lilith was in my first house conjunct my Moon (and my ascendant).... I was sexualized so much. I got stalked multiple times that year. Followed by grown ass adults (who knew I was a minor) to my school. Got slut shamed by random folks. Like I don't want to talk about triggering topics but yeah.

Last time I had a Scorpio Rising (with the ruler being in 3rd (again)) I also had one of the worst years of my life. Parents got divorced. I had a horrible summer camp experience. Got kidnapped (0 outta 10 would never want to experience that again). My grandma died. I moved... Yeah wouldn't stan a Scorpio rising for shit.

🔩😒I was extremely social that year (Sun in 11th) and I actually made friends with some famous people and had a large Instagram page (mostly writing about activism and daily life) (Sun also in Virgo)

🔩😒I had hot bitch privilege (even if it didn't always work out in my favor). I literally had a glow up that year, people started approaching me more and I was a lot more in tune with what looks good on me/makes me feel pretty. I also was in and out of a "not the best" relationship. It was giving codependent (Libra Venus in 12th)

🔩😒I had Uranus transiting my 6th house... It was also retrograde so no wonder I felt like actual shit. Also it was in Aries... And yes I did get hospitalized TWICE for mental health related reasons (and had seizures too which was great).

🔩😒The amount of projections I had to deal with was ridiculous. Also the amount of time I disassociated (but was very creative and able to make some really good art) was also ridiculous. (Neptune Rx in 5th house).

🔩😒I actually started inner child work that year with my therapist. It was great (besides the acknowledging shitty things), I learned a lot about how my current actions are explained by my past, and how I have always been a bit too trusting and it sometimes backfired. (Chiron Rx in 5th)

🔩😒In terms of finances I.... Well I made money and spent it to feel better. Meaning I had no money so I had to make more. Just to spend it again. (We love a Saturn 2nd house appearance)

🔩😒As much as I wanna drag that damn Rx Pluto, I learned to stick up for myself. Especially in writing or from friends (or people I just associate with). I learned about various communication methods and when/how/ and why to or not, communicate. (3rd house)

Its kinda funny how most of this ended up being about my senior year in high school. I guess at the end of either this Moon transit or year, I'll have more tales about the Solar Return and overall transits that really impacted me
