The above images are associated with the one and only ✦ Altaluna ✦, enchantress extraordinaire and protagonist of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a fantasy novel exploring the interplay between colonialism, capitalism, and environmental catastrophe through the fraught relationship between a mysterious sorcerer and his protogé.
EDIT: Switched out the images because I found better ones!

Hi there friend, sorry it’s been a while, life has been busy. A question about AUs, since this is something I’m currently exploring:
If you were to create an Alternate Universe of your setting, what kind of setting would it be? What changes would you make for you characters to fit?
Tumblr media
Hi Aqua (@aquadestinyswriting), thank you for this thought-provoking ask! And no worries <3 Life is life, and it gets us all! I'm always psyched to see you on my blog. To the moots, if you aren't familiar with the fantastic Aqua yet and/or you love the Titan Fighting Fantasy universe, go check out her Writeblr Masterpost for a complete overview of all her projects!
This is the question of the moment for The Sorcerer's Apprentice as I'm currently redesigning the universe. You couldn't have hit the nail more squarely on the head!! Previously, the story had been set in (1) a heavily UK-inspired high-fantasy macrocosm (á la Game of Thrones) and (2) a modern-day psychological horror version of a NYC Fifth Avenue apartment (á la Rosemary's Baby). In these previous universes, Valeriano and Altaluna were, respectively, a King and his heir, and an elderly socialite and his heir. However, since both these settings and their associated character roles eventually chafed against what I was looking to achieve with the story (aka. an exploration of the link between capitalism, colonialism, racism, and environmental disaster), I decided that this time I'd abandon all familiar formulas and rebuild the world from the ground up to highlight the broader social tensions that underlie Valeriano and Altaluna's relationship and, on a meta-narrative level, ensure that the aesthetics of the novel do not in any way reinforce or glorify the issues I'm attempting to criticize.
One of the biggest changes I've made in service of this goal is that I've taken the story completely out of the northern hemisphere. The geography, fauna & flora, religion and culture of the newly minted universe are all based on Colombia and Latin America more generally. In this way, I'm hoping that the novel itself will push back against the idea that our culture and environment are appealing, but only as the setting of a romantic weekend getaway or as the backdrop to a drug and/or human trafficking drama. I want to show that fantasy is possible here, too. That we can dream in our own terms. Furthermore, I want to undermine this general feeling that we (Colombians & Latin Americans more generally) have nothing to be proud of when compared to the US or countries in Europe. By highlighting and praising our architecture, food, natural diversity, and customs my aim is to chip away at that self-deprecating streak and all its associated myths (that we're poor because we're stupid, and lazy because we get too much sun) as much as I can. I would be really happy if my novel could help people see themselves and the world they live in, in a new more positive light...
Of course, this change in the setting/universe means changes for Valeriano and Altaluna as well. It would be tone-deaf to keep Valeriano as a King in a novel that is inspired by a region so heavily marked by the fight for independence from a monarchical society. For this reason, I'm leaning toward keeping the 'socialite' role he played in the Rosemary's Baby edition of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, with a few modifications. I'm actually thinking of using him to show how art can work to perpetuate colonial power (but more on that later! I still need to hash out some details). Similarly, Altaluna will be conserving her 'heir' role from the Rosemary's Baby edition, but with some of the more large-scale social movement/impact she had in the Game of Thrones rendition. If I can successfully adapt both Altaluna and Valeriano to this new universe, then their conflict should expand beyond a family drama into a commentary on the horrors colonialism enacts both on the oppressor and the oppressed (thank you, Discourse on Colonialism by Aime Cesaire for opening my eyes). If I'm really lucky, then maybe I'll be able to test possible solutions, like Babel by R.F. Kuang does (the solution there is violence, which is very Fanon adjacent).
Anyway, who knows. We'll see how it goes!

ramshackle dorm uniform WIP
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did these last night but it's still not finished. Not sure if I like it or have some things change. [The butterfly coat is a reference to Yen Sid's butterfly illusion in the Disney animation, Fantasia: the sorcerer's apprentice]
I can't really decide which hat I like better honestly. One is a witches hat kinda like Yen Sid's pointy hat, while the other two are similar to the ghosts hat in ramshackle.

Wednesday WIP
I was tagged by @wannab-urs @for-a-longlongtime and @pedroshotwifey so let's see if I can figure this game out... 🥸
Step one: Post Snippets of the fics you're working on (can be a summary if there's no snippet)
I picked my top five (yes five, I switch around a lot and have random ideas. This is Nerdie. 👀). Some of them I have mentioned before, I came back to them because my smut fairy 🧚‍♀️ came back thanks to @magpiepills and her Javier Pena being a whore (affectionately and very interested what happened with the pantyhose)
1. Two Hearts on the Ocean - Javi G x (Abigail) OFC
Abigail and Javier sipped their tea while chatting about the last movie and how both of them had fallen asleep. Expressing his displeasure at falling asleep during a Nicolas Cage movie, Abby confessed that she had fallen asleep during ‘Ghost Rider’ before and this was the first time she’d been awake through the whole movie so he shouldn’t feel bad. Javier told her that it was because he was here with her to keep her awake. She agreed that he was likely right.  They planned to re-watch ‘The Sorcerer's Apprentice’ another day and Javi walked her to her room after stopping off in the kitchen on the way to drop off the mugs. It felt like earlier in the day when he’d walked her to her hotel room though he wouldn’t be so far away this time. She gave him a peck on the cheek and said goodnight as Javier did the same.
2. Roc & Doc - Tim Rockford x (Doc) OFC
“I think you should send Tim a picture of yourself in your outfit. Show him what he’s missing out on by sitting at home in his boxers or sleeping in his office gazing lovingly at his murder board.” This elicited you to choke on your punch and put a hand to your chest.
“I-I- who is that fun for exactly?! What is wrong with everyone this week?!” Knocking back the rest of your drink and pouring yourself more, you’re holding onto the table to keep yourself upright. “First the damn notebook, a bone song, now I find out and meet…”
3. Diddle your Dieter to Disco - Dieter Bravo x plus size female reader
“There’s my Kit Kat. I was trying to entertain myself while waiting for you. I wanted to surprise you.” His face laid against your stomach, giving it a soft kiss as his hands roamed. You took the glitter and poured two quarter sized glops on his back to which he hissed at the sudden cold from your hands spread along his shoulder blades and down his spine, spreading the silver glitter slinging it onto his skin. Now in the different lights, the sparkles danced across his skin, Dieter moaned from your touch, digging his hands into your thighs as you continued to massage his back. “Fuck…yes baby. What are you putting back there?” He asked as one hand snaked under your skirt and squeezed one of your ass cheeks, he enjoyed his hand sinking into your plush skin.
(Smut below the break - FYI)
4. Foul Play - Javier Pena x Aria Davis (plus size OFC)
Aria headed straight home after meeting Javier. It needed to be while his memory was fresh in her mind: His voice telling her he wants her, to grab her, hold her, bend her, mold her, mark her, whispering to her as he’s deep inside of her. His grin as he told her to undress. Maybe as she stood before him as he laid back on the bed, waiting for her to come to him. His moan from his first bites of his food. Could he make that same sound with her? His hands messy with the grease from the empanada. He had wiped them off but she could picture him licking them. His pink shirt and jeans clinging to his slim body from the humidity.
5. Florida Heat - Dave York x Santiago Garcia
Dave is aware that his moan is too loud. He should not be feeling it this much, he hated it and was trying to plan how to turn the tables of Santiago. To see him break apart before him as he was doing right now, in his hand were both of their throbbing shafts. He was certain if he could hold out a bit longer, Garcia would climax first. He could then use his recovery to overstimulate him. Pull his curls, toward him as he fingers Santi’s ass with lube, stretching him so he can prod his entrance with his cock and slowly…Dave felt it on his face first, a small splatter before the ropes landed on his chest and stomach. He was panting from the picture in his head of Santiago Garcia whining for him to fuck his round and full ass. One of them had climaxed. One of them relaxed. One of them was laughing.
Step two: put them in a poll and let people vote on which one you should work on
Step three: Every vote is one minute you put on a timer to work on that fic (ex. 15 votes =. 15 minutes of writing)
Also if you want to ask questions about any of my fics, myself comments and asks are wide open, like the thots. 😘

Hello Sleepy Mother Dearest.
It is a very lovely and sunny day where I live. It was a very windy and yucky week so I'm happy that it's so nice today. I hope your day is lovely as well, if not outside than inside with a cozy drink and blanket.
Choose any wip or wips and tell me a few of your favorite things about them.
It was a yucky week for me. I had a sore throat on Tuesday and I've been fighting it all week. It's still lurking at the base, a little.
I will tell you one thing about a bunch of wips (I don't have favorite things, they rotate)
Pirate Story: wedding clothes are blue, because trade and sailing are such huge and important parts of the culture, so people get married in blue for the luck of the sea
Wuxia Story: Jialin endears herself to her husband's mother by unintentionally motivating his younger brother to start acting more like an adult
Mercenary Story: magic totally is a thing, but people believe it isn't. there are magic practitioners around who make charms and potions that people will buy more out of superstition, but they don't believe in magic. which definitely is a thing. at least in Taris, where everybody's a ask hero skeptic. in Naymoor, they sort of do, in Kyre, they sort of do. Gurda is the only country that does, which is a big factor in why everybody else doesn't.
Guild Story: the immortal sorceress gathers her apprentices by saving people from death, except for the sorcerers in the house of (healing). there are regular doctors there, and the immortal sorceress picks whoever at she thinks will be good at controlling magic to become the magical doctors. Mareye was chosen for having the strongest stomach of her class.
Snow Fangs and the Poisoned Cinderella: Ashwhite was originally named Ashburn, because she has a birthmark on her stomach that looks like a burn, but when she shifted for the first time, her hair turned white, and her family and clan started calling her Ashwhite instead.
Love you, Rainstormdaughterdearest

Trick or Treat? 🦇
Treat! 🎃
Thank you so much for the tag @pluttskutt!
Since it's the spooky season, nothing better than a snippet about two scheming villains for a sinister mood! (This is a scene from my WIP Tales of Wilted Flowers!)
"That wingless faerie." The King spat out, pinching the bridge of his nose in exasperation, almost laughing. With a wave of a hand, he gestured for a servant to pour him more wine, which they did, quickly. After, it took only a severe look for the servant to scurry out of the room.
Across from him, Lord Eldryc stood, impassive. Tieran drank the wine in one long sip, seething with rage, before slamming his hand on the table, the now empty goblet discarded on the floor with a clatter. "A damned boy - !" He howled, tapping his fingers on the marble for a modicum of patience. " - knows more about our plans and where to find the jewels than most of your prized acolytes do. You swore to me that he had already been dealt with. Eliminated even. Given the recent events, I can tell that is not the case."
King Tieran finished the sentence with a scoffing sigh, falling back on the velvety furs of his chair, a hand to his forehead. Eldryc remained still, waiting for the monarch to finish speaking, merely lifting an eyebrow in response.
"That issue has been dealt with - it's only a matter of time until the resolution settles itself. But if we're to play this game and put blame on each other, we could do it all week. Lest you forget, the journal of your old rival - you failed to track it down, didn't you? And now that wretched Thysfiran girl has the key."
His words were cold, precise as needles - it was no secret to both of them that those facts held truth. Tieran glared, impotent rage flaring behind his golden eyes, for a long moment, before he stood up, thinking. Despite his outward poise, his fists trembled with rage. Lord Eldryc smirked.
''This" The young monarch gestured around, towards the table's disarray. "Changes nothing. What we need to do is continue the preparations - the Mark of the Banished is at hand, within my grasp at last"
Lord Eldryc nodded, clearly ignoring the King's words. "Of course. Meanwhile, my apprentice will see to it that both those nuisances are caught and properly dispatched, where your men have failed. If we catch the girl, our faerie friend will soon follow - Xarian was never quite one to learn from his mistakes. "
On the corner of the room, Corbin stood - a gelid presence, expressionless as a snake. And just as deadly, Tieran concluded, acknowledging the High Sorcerer's words with a short look as he paced around the room, stopping at the window, fingers tracing the scar now cutting deep along his own untarnished cheekbone.
A gift, from an old friend. He might as well return the favor. Eyes fixed on the horizon, Tieran spoke.
"You will do that," Tieran answered, dismissive, wiping his hands on the furs of his cloak "Or it's your head - not hers - that will be on a pike soon enough. As far as I'm concerned, I've personal matters to solve, something priceless to my family... was taken" He paused, paying a glance to a statue of his old likeness in the room "- and I believe a certain delusional, would-be-lordling is about to hand me that which was stolen on a silver platter. Grateful, as always, to his mysterious benefactor."

been waiting for work to be over so I could send these!! for the Behind the Scenes game!
‼️"what has stayed consistent across all drafts?"
🖋️"what inspired you to write your WIPs?"
Hey, K! Hope you're getting at least a little rest here and there. Or at least this evening is treating you well.
From the Behind the Scenes Asks
‼️"what has stayed consistent across all drafts?"
You saw the answer about Apophenia, so I'll talk about a WIP I've never posted but have written a few drafts for. Since the question isn't about what's different between versions...I'll make a game of it and put anything that's stayed the same in bold in the description.
XIII is/was a fantasy story I wrote at the tender age of nineteen. It's set in a magical realm adjacent to Earth called Arasind. The fmc is an orphaned teenager named Flora who was adopted and became the apprentice to a vampire shadow sorcerer called Radu. Of course, she's outspoken, beautiful, impulsive, and she discovers she has extremely powerful magic, of the death/necromancy variety. Unfortunately, Radu has nefarious plans to use her as a weapon for his own gain. Unbeknownst to him, there's another evil vampire with plans of his own for Flora. However, with the help of her friends and lover our protagonist makes her own fate, becoming a sorcerer powerful enough to not only change the course of her world's history but others' as well.
🖋️"what inspired you to write your WIPs?"
Fanfiction. Not writing it--that wouldn't come until my twenties--but reading it. Before discovering fanfic at, like, thirteen I'd had this nebulous idea of how one becomes a writer. You'd have to be super intelligent to start. Go to one of the best universities, of course. Get apprenticed to a senior writer to learn the trade? Seriously, I had no clue how it happened other than it involved adult business somehow.
But fanfic showed me that to be a writer, you just...write. And people only a few years older than me were creating stories I enjoyed and putting them on the Internet! If they could do it, maybe I could too! So, around fifteen, I made up some OCs based loosely on the fanon versions of a pairing I liked. They soon grew and developed personalities and backstories of their own. The world and cast continued to expand as I learned from studying what I dis/liked about the books I read, and my skills improved after joining an online writing forum. And I continue to learn and improve even now.
On a more individual basis, most of my early fantasy WIPs grew from creating that first world and filling it with different types of characters I liked. Or wanting to write a story that covered something I felt was lacking in a book I had recently read.
Apophenia/Phagophobia and The Primrose Path both came from an Ao3 prompt event. I just didn't stop developing the worlds and characters once the event was over, and now they're out of control.

Before I start rambling about WIP Wednesday stuff, I want to mention a couple things:
My posting schedule - lately, I've been posting a lot. I've had an unprecedented amount of inspiration and free time. It's going to slow down now that I'm working on longer projects again. That being said, I'm more than happy to work on shorter prompts/requests if I receive any. (It's not your fault if I end up writing a lot for it, sometimes I get inspired. lol)
Nightbringer - I have a lot of feelings about this game so far. Anything I write specifically about the Nightbringer story or character arcs will be tagged as such.
Tumblr media
NSFW Solomon x Reader First, I'm working on Insatiable AU: Part II. That AU series has five total pieces outlined. There is some hints/build up leading to the last two fics that include some participation from Asmodeus and Barbatos.
Second, I'm working on the outline for Part III of the Dark!Solomon AU. I've decided it's going to be another long fic comprised of the general events/themes of S3 and S4.
Tumblr media
Possibly suggestive/NSFW Asmodeus x Sorcerer!Reader. I expect this to be a longer one-shot fic. It's a Different First Meeting/Developing Relationship fic for Asmo and the Reader/MC character who's already a sorcerer's apprentice. I've been wanting to write this for ages.
Tumblr media
Suggestive/NSFW Mephisto x Yandere!Reader Michael x Yandere!Reader. Mephisto x Yandere!Reader fic completed here!

BI-WEEKLY (ISH?) ACHIEVEMENTS:
Worldbuilding: Worked on a post on the geography, flora & fauna of The Sorcerer's Apprentice universe which I meant to publish last week, but was unable to finish due to life circumstances (my favourite aunt went to intensive care, and I caught a nasty stomach bug while visiting her). At any rate, it's almost done, so it should go up sometime next week.
Continued Researching Colonialism, Neocolonialism, Coloniality as a Concept and Decolonial Practices: I've been reading Edward W. Said's Culture and Imperialism for the last few weeks and I'm making slow but steady progress. My plan is to pick up Said's Orientalism next, which I've heard is also a go-to text on colonialism. In addition, I also read A Decolonial Feminism by Francoise Verges, which I found quite eye-opening and will be incorporating into Altaluna's storyline (namely, I'll be showcasing how some forms of feminism are used to further colonial aims through interactions between Altaluna and her supposedly 'transgressive' peers); The Good Die Young: The Verdict on Henry Kissinger, a compilation of essays on how Kissinger (who I met in his declining years) used and abused human rights discourse to further US economic control (capitalism with US supremacy incorporated) over so-called 'third-world' regions, and how this is the standard practice for US foreign policy to this day (I'm borrowing this two-pronged approach for interactions between the Empire and it's subordinate 'independent' states); and Toussaint L'Ouverture: The Haitian Revolution, a compilation of Toussaint's (and a couple others, including Napoleon's) correspondence during Toussaint's fight for independence. The book features an outstanding introduction by Jean-Bertrand Aristide and offers a stark contrast to Kissinger's views on Human Rights; in Toussaint's letters and speeches, these rights come with no strings attached and are pursued on principle, out of the genuine belief that they are inalienable to all (at one point the British offered to 'make him' King of Haiti and he refused, which I have to admit, I was pretty impressed by). I also did quite a lot of follow-up reading on Haiti, as an example of the colonialism-to-neocolonialism pipeline. Given that The Sorcerer's Apprentice is set in a neo-colonial world, reading up on Haiti's history helps me better portray the continuity between these two systems and indirectly criticize the idea that today both my readers and I live in a post-colonial world. BTW, if you're unfamiliar with the horrors visited upon the Haitian people (did you know that up until 2015, when France 'forgave' them their debt, the government of Haiti had been paying the French compensation for their loss of slave labour?), check out this article. Likewise, if you're unfamiliar with the difference between colonialism and neo-colonialism (as I was for 99.9% of my life lol), take a look at the iconographic below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Researched Fiction Genres in 'Post-colonial' Literature: The various iterations of The Sorcerer's Apprentice I've written so far have experimented with two main genres, fantasy and horror. The first iterations were straight-up typical high fantasies with Kings and Queens and dragons in a UK-style setting; the second were more realistic but much more eerie psychological horror stories set in modern-day New York City (if you scroll back far enough on this blog, you'll find evidence of both). Although I like some elements/scenes from both genre adaptations of The Sorcerer's Apprentice and, indeed, although I intend to incorporate some of these in the current draft, ultimately I abandoned the aforementioned versions because, at their core, they failed. Why? Because, while they nailed the interpersonal struggle between Valeriano and Altaluna, they did so without addressing the reason that struggle even exists in the first place. Namely, they failed to go beyond the personal relationship, to its systemic causes. The truth is that a person like Valeriano doesn't exist in a vacuum. He's a product and embodiment of a world with certain values. Yes, Altaluna may have defeated him in a high-fantasy royal skirmish for power or its modern-day equivalent inheritance drama, but engaging (even embracing) the system that produced him (royalty, birthright, etc.), undermines her victory. What was she in these earlier versions of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, but another shade of Valeriano? What did she represent, in her victory if not the desire to be the oppressor? The deep self-depreciation of the oppressed? Even the aesthetics of these earlier versions glorified Valeriano's world, with little mention of Altaluna's. This was my fault. I did not understand that these things were in me. I am beginning to. In any case, I don't intend to make the same mistake twice, so I'm doing a little research into how different literary genres have been used to tell stories about colonialism/neocolonialism/post-colonialism. I read a pretty good article from Globalization, Utopia, and Postcolonial Science Fiction: New Maps of Hope by E. Smith entitled "Third-World Punks, or, Watch out for the Worlds Behind You," and I'm trying to look into Afrofuturism and Latinfuturism.
REMINDERS:
Answer pending asks. Yes, I am bad. I admit it, I am very bad. (why am I so bad *sobs*)
Publish that promised worldbuilding post on the geography, flora & fauna of The Sorcerer's Apprentice universe.
Survive this stomach bug.

Writeblr Positivity Tag
Tumblr media
Hi @inkovert! Thank you, as always, for the tag. Just a quick shout-out; if you don't know Inkovert yet, please please please go check out their WIP, My Dearest Enemy. Also, do you like having in-depth discussions about writing with other up-and-coming authors? Participate in @inkovert's Spilled Ink Saturdays. The first session (on book-to-screen adaptations) was a lot of fun!
✦ What motivates you to write?
I agree with @inkovert. It's not that I'm motivated to write, exactly... It's more that I feel I... have to? There's a sort of internal inertia that keeps pulling me back to fiction. Maybe it's obsession? Maybe it's Maybelline? 💃😉 No, but seriously, I think it may be connected to this weird instinct I have to document things? To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, when I was in my mid-twenties, I went through a terrifying break-in. I kid you not; there was a literal man with a balaclava crouched in my shower in the middle of the night. How did I respond? By screaming, obviously. But after the screaming? I called up my boyfriend and narrated every single detail of what I saw and heard while trying to escape the house with my family. In my mind, I felt it was critical to tell him what was going on, not because I thought it would help catch the culprit(s) (we didn't know if there were more), save us from whatever bitter fate awaited, etc., but kind of in the same way people carve "I was here" into walls? If I was going to die (which was a possibility; a friend's father died in similar circumstances at around the same time), I needed someone to know what I'd seen, to know that I'd seen... So, do I write because I'd die if I didn't? No. I write because I'm going to die anyway. Because I know I'm going to die.
✦ A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud of/happy with. If not, maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them):
I can do you one better! Because @inkovert kindly tagged me, I'd like to return the favour by referring you to their Wattpad page, where you can read their current WIP, My Dearest Enemy
✦ Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them, and what are they like?
Haha, I don't know if any of the OCs in The Sorcerer's Apprentice make me smile. They all worry me a lot. By accepting an apprenticeship with the sorcerer Valeriano, Altaluna is heading straight into a nest of venomous vipers, and they are going to maim her; they are going to maim her for life. Every time she feels optimistic or wow-ed by the glitz and the glam of her new environment, I cringe internally. My poor, sweet summer child! Valeriano, on the other hand, is a monster, so it's hard to smile when thinking of him. Hmm... maybe the only character I genuinely smile around is Cucufate, the talking monkey. He's the only character whose behaviour and snide comments can be underplayed as just 'animal antics,' which means he's the only character who can get away with giving people a little of what they truly deserve. It's hard not to love him for it.
✦ What process of writing do you enjoy the most?
Again, I have to agree with @inkovert. The editing process means no blank page, and no blank page means (rejoice!) no existential suffering. My first drafts are always shit and a disappointment. But my second drafts? Dost thou want to live deliciously? With the second draft, I know where I'm going, what's happening, where to trim the fat and everything I need to make the story what I wanted it to be in the first place. Usually, I downright discard the first draft and write the entire story from scratch, but better, so much better. And editing the second (or sometimes, third) draft? Pure, unadulterated bliss. Goodbye, low self-esteem, goodbye doubts; cue me some Nina Simone, why don't you?
✦ What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)
Editing, re-drafting. I'm good at figuring out what's wrong and have no trouble whatsoever massacring my darlings.
✦ What is something in the writeblr community that is most enjoyable?
The community! I love participating in tag & ask games, reading people's work, celebrating my mutual's triumphs, and sharing my progress. I don't have any writer friends outside of Tumblr (apart from academic writer friends, though they're a very different kettle of fish), so I really appreciate being able to log on and be met with all this creativity.
✦ A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)
Okay, so first thing first: I have ADHD. Any thought I have is an explosion that simultaneously sends spin-off thoughts in every imaginable direction, which, in turn, send spin-off thoughts in every imaginable direction, and so on and so forth, and on and on, until some of the spin-offs reach a dead end and their line withers, and/or I reach the limits of my capacity to hold all these thoughts in my mind and spontaneously combust. Instead of trying to fight this multi-generative tendency (this leads to a state of paralysis where I can't do anything), I've found a way to let the 'explosions' take the lead without overloading my systems, so to speak. Basically, I figured that if I stored every direction my mind went in somewhere other than my mind, I could let it do its thing without risking burnout. For that, I use MindNode, a visual brainstorming software. And let me tell you, it's been a life-saver. Now, when considering a scene, I document every possible route available to the characters and/or the setting, assign each ramification a score (for example, +1 Worldbuilding, +1 Foreshadowing, +1 Symbolism, +1 Character Development, -1 Cliché, -1 Undermines Tension, -1 Repetitive, etc.), and then choose the one with the highest score to write out. This method is obviously quite time-consuming, but it does have some unique strengths beyond helping me deal with my ADHD: (1) it ensures that there are no superfluous scenes in the grand design, (2) it ensures that all scenes are layered and fulfil multiple story functions at once, (3) it discourages going with the first option that presents itself (usually cliché, in my case), (4) it encourages out-of-the-box creative thinking, (5) and, finally, it's likely to lead to scenes that surprise you, the writer (for example, I was shocked by how many routes led to my character's death, lol). So, yeah, MindNode has been very helpful to me.
✦ A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law, etc)
I love the magic system, but I'm not sure I'll reveal anything more about it before publication than I already have in this post. You're just going to have to wait and see ;)

my wip stories have two options/sides for their description
"literally just to make it so the description isn't the first paragraph of chapter 1" ("idk man. Cobra & Viper's story. will edit later.")
and "fully fleshed out but probably needs mild editing" ("Anthe Siqrae is a 17 year old sorcerer's apprentice in a small village. She aspires to be a great sorcerer like her mentor, but sadly, entities above Fate have other plans for Anthe. Foxes are cruel creatures...")

As war tears apart the western parts of the lands of Rhea, Royals and nobility send their children east, to the neutral kingdom, Kalthora. Among the new students at Ollodall Fortress, is the youngest princess of Terrasia, Evelyn Ryhill, who in very first day receives a hero's prophecy from the Goddess and she becomes the apprentice of the school's two heads, Grand Sorcerer Zashl Itaz and Grand General Owyn Shiroa.
10 years pass since receiving her prophecy, and no such fate finds the young princess. Believing she had been abandoned by her deity, she is reunited with her arranged fiancé, Prince Valor Ravizin of Iad, and his strange group of friends. The reunion turns to chaos as it is revealed to Evelyn that Valor and his companions are wards of the dark power she had been tasked with destroying 10 years prior. While being perused by the forces in the dark, Evelyn is forced to navigate staying true to her own morals, or staying true to her holy mission and breaking promises she made along the way.
