your vinyl record.

it was gifted to you on christmas about two years ago. you’ve always dwelled on wanting one of your own, but never had the balls to go out of your way to purchase one because they could get pretty pricey. a lot of your extensive research and effort you spent scouring the internet to find the perfect vinyl record you’d like pointed to signs of something completely out of your budget. well, not completely, but unrealistically obtainable with the numbers you’ve been receiving paycheck-to-paycheck from your job.

so, each time that the holidays were around the corner, and whenever your mother would ask for your christmas wishlist, you’d throw in several other items you’d like but never included the idea of wanting a vinyl record. that secret desire of yours was something you kept to yourself, something you never brought up in conversation, nor was it something you’d expect to receive unless it was coming out of your pockets.

lo and behold, on the morning of a wintery cold december 25, when you were gathered around the christmas tree with your siblings and parents to open your presents, there sat a box with a fragile sticker stuck to the wrapping.

since then your prized possession has followed you to college and your off-campus apartment whom you share with your three other close friends.

intak, especially, took a liking to your music player and never misses an opportunity to use it. whenever he visits your place (which is almost every day) he makes it his unrelenting mission to flip through your vinyls and place his pick of the day on to the turntable. his personal favorite is cigarettes after sex, a band you actually introduced him to.

while you don’t mind sharing things, especially with your partner, you’re pretty sure intak has used your vinyl record more often than you have. ultimately, you don’t mind. it’s rather endearing knowing that what’s yours also belongs to him.

“y/n can i play super smash bros?”

shota doesn’t even need to ask for your approval. in fact, he already knows your answer will always allude to a ‘yes,’ but he does it anyway despite the electronic device already in his possession.

“of course,” you would say.

naturally you grew up owning multiple generations of nintendo ds’s. when nintendo came out with a new updated version you’d go to the game store to trade it in for store credit just to get the latest release. this routine continued up until middle school when your gaming hobby no longer prevailed itself in your interests.

as months passed and 2017 eventually rolled by, the internet buzzed with life after nintendo’s announcement about the upcoming hybrid console came to light. rest assured that you were one of millions who preordered the device and waited impatiently for it’s hard launch date to release in store.

but again, school started to pick up and extra curricula’s were time consuming, that playing video games became less and lesser of an option for you to indulge in.

leave it to shota to pick up your slack. because if it’s not super smash bros that he’s try-harding at, it’s either the suika game, animal crossing (if he really feels like it), or pokemon. an odd rotation but who were you to judge.

“wHat!” he yelps from the couch. “how did he dodge that!”

you giggle at his typical gamer-behavior, closely reminded of yourself.

the sony cyber-shot camera has been by your side since you were in the 5th grade.

it was a hand-me-down from your father’s box of electronic gadgets he owned back in the day; a lot of which were collecting dust in the garage for not being used in so long.

while tossing things away to relieve the clutter and deciding what to keep, you remember discovering the digicam at the bottom of the pile after laborious digging. your father briefly taught you how to turn it on and off, what button to press to take a picture, how to record a video, and the different settings you could play around with.

your digicam has followed you around the world to different countries for family trips, witnessed you graduate from high school, contained a lot of embarrassing photos of you and your friends, watched you grow since elementary to your first day of college, and captured numerous flicks featuring new faces.

when you started dating jongseob, your photo gallery has been nothing but candid pictures of you and him (mainly of you).

your boyfriend is constantly bringing it along with him to events or outings, because, in his defense, he just wants to create some memories for you both to look back on someday. sometimes he goes out of his way to point and direct you on how to pose.

once, over dinner, you asked jongseob if he’d rather upgrade to something better and not outdated, like a canon or even a proper film camera. however, he is not one to budge and refuses to give up the obsolete digicam he unintentionally took ownership of.

“it’s special,” he pouted. “and sentimental, too.”

you smiled, “i guess. i just can’t help but wonder if you prefer a greater upgrade.”

“trust me, this has everything i need. now show me that pretty smile of yours.”

what’s something that quilge is truly afraid of?

musing asks / always accepting .

what's interesting ABOUT quilge is how he places fearlessness and willpower extremely highly . he is a very confident man , and it's clear that he reveres his own skills , and for very good reason . even if he isn't within the elite guard of yhwach's personal army , he's certainly higher-ranking than most of the sternritter , in my opinion . no one else is the executive hunting captain .

the anime , unfortunately , cut out the killing of his own men . he hates cowardice . and he thinks that the men he taught shouldn't flinch at the sight of death , nor make a retreat . so , i would venture that quilge claims to be fearless to many people . and it's mostly true . not a lot scares him . he had been taught from an early age not to fear what would kill you , and it has been a lesson he had overcome in the years to follow . he is from a family of hollow and monster hunters . danger is in their blood . and he suffers from no known phobias . his work as a palace torturer , dungeon jailer and executioner made his stomach very strong . his beloved hobby is turning corpses inside out , i guess . he could eat a four-course meal in front of a pile of disemboweled , beheaded , skinned , festering corpses and he would do so again . funky .

that being said , i think something that truly gets to him is his own personal failure . ah , the typical "not being good enough" thing , but that stems from his intensely competitive nature . he slaughtered his own siblings in a battle royale for a place within the wandenreich . he wanted to win at any cost . but , i don't know if i could count it as a true ... fear ? it's more like something that he just gets mad about for a few hours , maybe a day or two , and then he's over it . fear and quilge is a bit of an interesting thing to discuss because he wants so badly to not fear anything . maybe he tricks himself into thinking it . maybe he'd never even admit it .

another one is losing nnoitra . if nnoitra @guadanya were to die , quilge would reach a level of insanity previously yet unseen . so let's not have that . :^) these two in particular are deeply inseparable . when the either of them is without the other , they don't enjoy it . so this intense feeling of loss is mutual between them .

loss is absolutely a factor to quilge and his anxieties . he doesn't like losing what he believes to be his . he doesn't like losing in competitions . and he doesn't like losing in battles .

of course , in a shared canon moment i have with @phobiael , quilge has known as nodt for ... centuries . and when as developed his schrift , quilge had asked him to use it on him ------ rather sparingly , i'd presume , to slowly cause himself to become used to it over time . he would expose himself to his own fears , at the time , until he'd finally gotten rid of them all . or , so he'd thought . he would rather steel his own will through intense contact with his fears themselves than be exposed and weak before them . and while this method did work , quilge still suffers from some anxieties , on occasion . i should also note that äs is special to quilge , too . out of all the other quincy , äs is his favourite to work with and be beside ( and , in verses where quilnoi isn't being the shipping focus in the verse , he is paired with äs ) .

it isn't common to someone like quilge . but , even with his own attempts to rid himself of fear completely , he still experiences it gently , in the smallest inklings .

((I. . . tend to forget the 6ths even exist half the time, so uh, I’ll try!))

((The 6ths are unique in that they aren’t a line in the traditional sense. They aren’t a line at all, actually. They don’t share creators, they don’t network with each other, they don’t even live in the same countries. I think at best they’re like. . . political colleagues who only see each other during big events. In fact, I assume they each probably have true siblings of their own, though I’ve never thought on the concept enough to imagine any myself.))

((Centaur is museum guide, which is like, the most quiet, unassuming job I can think of. The fact that he was not only upgraded for combat, but clearly remains one of the strongest robots in the world as of the Stardroid disaster, makes me think he’s a lot like Elec.))

((For the most part, he is pretty stoic and generally rather quite. He’s typically much more gentle than his demeanor might lead you to believe, given he regularly interacts with delicate objects and children. To be perfectly honest, he doesn’t dislike his main job. In fact I think he’s a massive history buff who is very passionate about a lot of things. The problem is that that passion can very quick turn to aggression if he gets riled up. Like most history nerds, he has a lot of very strong opinions that he will rant about ad nauseam if given the opportunity.))

((Unfortunately, aggression is extremely frowned upon in servicebots, meaning he didn’t have much of an outlet. So when the opportunity to represent his country in a WRA- sponsored fighting tournament presented itself, he practically begged to be signed up.))

((Luckily for him, Centaur clearly managed to get a much happier ending out of his plight than poor Elec, because he was actually able to keep his combat upgrades. Which to me, implies that he still competes in tournaments. He genuinely does just enjoy the thrill of fighting. His primary job is super quiet and pretty repetitive. He especially loves the element of strategy involved in figuring out what his opponent is capable of and how to take them down purely for the mental stimulation. And of course, there’s also just the general fun of punching something until you feel better.))

((At this point, he’s got a pretty good record under his belt and is kind of like a major wrestling personality. Anyone that’s familiar with the robot fighting scene knows who he is. He still works as a museum guide for the most part, and his participation in tournaments has actually kept the lights on more than once (another reason his owners were willing to sign him up in the first place), but it’s still a very important hobby of his.))

Well this only took me over a decade to do somehow, finally made some proper updated digital ref sheets for my classic gang of MLP OC's I used to draw all the damn time back in 2012

(Well, technically MOST of them are mine. Tide Pool is a shared OC actually created by one of my friends but that's beside the point lol).

Info about each of them under the cut:

Cherry Flower- probably one of my most popular MLP OC's that my online friends recognize, as she's still my favorite MLP OC I've created period. Cherry is the only member of her group with a relatively depressing backstory (because of course she is). She was prematurely born to cruel family that led a tribe of bandits and ruffians. Being the result of an unwanted birth, her parents and older siblings were often cruel and neglectful towards her, driving her to run away at a young age until she landed in Ponyville (long before Twilight did so this was before the Mane 6 met) and was taken in by her adoptive older brother Lightning Bolt.

After learning fighting skills to defend herself through martial arts training and subsequently stopping her evil father and his gang from carrying out a raid on Ponyville, she now is able to live a normal fulfilling life with her friends and new family

Tide Pool- Cherry Flower's love interest. Like I said, he's actually a shared OC with a friend so not 100% mine. In contrast to Cherry's brash demeanor, Tide is a more laid-back and calm Pegasus who helps Cherry Flower regain her self esteem and work through her trauma

Water Wave and Kikyo Bud- Cherry Flower and Tide Pool's foals. Never really fleshed out their personalities much tbh, just as innocent as you'd typically expect kids to be. Cherry Flower especially treasures them as she does her damnest to be a better parent to her children than her parents were to her

Lightning Bolt- Cherry Flower's aforementioned adoptive brother who took her in and raised her. Obviously as Cherry's loving older sibling, he tends to have a friendly aptitude towards others. Typically cool and carefree, he's also an unsuccessful flirt towards attractive mares, and had a one-sided crush on Rainbow Dash for years. Naturally he matures with age and drinks respect women juice rather than just trying to impress them, which is why he forms a genuine relationship with his new girlfriend Sugar Zip. Speaking of which...

Sugar Zip- Lightning Bolt's current girlfriend who played a big role in teaching him some manners and helping him grow. While she comes from a family primarily consisting of Pegasus rockstars, she chose a different path and runs her own sweets shop/bakery in Cloudesdale

Spark Pyre- A calm, quiet, hospitable unicorn who enjoys providing for his friends. As his name indicates, he specializes in fire magic which he utilizes for his favorite hobby of cooking hot tasty meals

Silver Dust- as I said a few times before, she's legit my VERY FIRST MLP OC I ever created back in 2012. Silver is an extroverted artistic unicorn who loves crafting and sculpting. She also specializes in ice-based magic and is usually hired to create ice sculptures for parties and formal events. She has a very big crush on Spark Pyre, one that he silently reciprocates. Unfortunately both have yet to admit their feelings for one another... for now anyway

Tidal Wave- an Earth pony who lives in a beach house whose favorite sport is surfing. The fun-loving daredevil who's always down to try new and more thrilling surfing stunts, which more often than not terrifies her friends.

Needed some fluffy elsanna headcanons so allow me to ramble about that one AU i mentioned ages ago:

Modern AU Oslo. Icest ofc. Anna and Elsa are dating and still living with their parents, because Anna hasn't finished secondary school yet and Elsa refuses to move out without her. This is their last year living with their family and they decide they want to be truthful and open about their relationship, because they know they'll need people they can trust who love them unconditionally once they leave.

It goes better than expected, as in, Agnarr and Iduna aren't shitheads for once and try at least to understand them. They still hope to split them apart but they want to do it with Facts and Logic and Common Sense rather than Child Abuse.

I'm considering having Olaf be the youngest sibling, at age 10 or so, which would make Anna the middle sibling. I don't know how I feel about Anna not being the baby of the family, but I think it would be very interesting to watch Olaf be wary of his sisters after their confession, with Anna and Elsa later trying to regain his trust. How do you explain to your sibling that you're romantically involved with your other sibling while reassuring him that you're not a pervert out to hurt him and that nothing about their family dynamic needs to change?

Speaking of family dynamic: you couldn't tell Anna and Elsa are dating if they put a gun to your head because they act 100% like siblings every time they're not smooching, and even when they are smooching, one will always make an "ew you suck" or "mom loves me more" joke. They act more like siblings than they do in canon, with all the banter and random insults and the ocasional wrestling match (that is, Anna climbing onto Elsa like a koala and Elsa skillfully ignoring her).

Sometimes they do get very soft and they'll cuddle in the couch and braid each other's hair and kiss a lot. Truth is that despite all of the sisterly banter, they're always very gentle and careful with each other. They never touch delicate subjects or hurt each other accidentally, which translates to physical expressions of affection, too. Anna koala-wrestling Elsa is never actual wrestling. She's actually very mindful about not pulling her hair on accident or something. So when they get soft they are soft. Lots of cheesy loving glances and cheek kisses. Sometimes one of their parents will see Elsa cooking in the kitchen with Anna's arms around her waist and go "Aaaw they look cute togeth-- NO. BAD MOM. MUST SPLIT." And come up with an awkward excuse like "I need Anna's help to open a few jars" to separate them for a bit because they can't stand the tooth-rooting fluff.

Kristoff is Elsa's straight friend for once, actually. He and Anna barely know each other from the times he visited on Elsa's birthday. They bond over ice sculptures and stuff. Maybe have an ice sculpture team together. Anna tried to join in back when she was trying to woo her sister but after a few disasters Elsa kicked her out of the project.

Anna is asexual and everyone respects that.

Elsa tries to be as non-romantic towards Anna when their parents are around as to not make them uncomfortable, but Anna goes to the opposite extreme and will kiss her on every chance she has. Agnarr had to tell her more than once to leave her sister alone and finish her dinner before it gets cold.

Iduna got over the whole i.ncest weirdness pretty quickly because true love, right? She was raised by a gust of wind. She's seen weirder stuff. Agnarr is still on the "but they are sisters" phase, and Iduna is like, this is the 21st century Agnarr.

Speaking of Iduna being weird, I like to imagine she's the weirdo of the family. Elsa doesn't hold a candle to her. Sure, Elsa might be in love with her sister and claim to speak to geckos, but Iduna collects potato chips that look like Kurt Cobain and had a phase when she was 15 in which she'd only walk on her hands. She also knows how to start a fire with two carrots.

Agnarr's weirdest hobby is fixing cars or whatever (he's a very mainstream and normie dad). Anna tried to help him once but last time the car caught fire and now she only hangs around as emotional support, bringing Agnarr food and cheering for him whenever he fixes something.

Anna got Olaf into philosophy. They started by reading something easy and simple like Marx or Hegel (Anna studies political science), and now Olaf's whole library is composed of philosophical tomes by european white men with unpronounceable names.

Elsa is the typical kid that grew up reading long book sagas and now only reads gay fanfiction and Twitter threads. Her brain has died. Now she shall proceed to run into fire.

Of course, Elsa is into musical theater. Anna isn't, but she still takes her to plays on their dates whenever she can afford it.

Someone, somehow, at some point found out about Anna and Elsa's relationship, and they posed an important threat for them, and that's when Agnarr stops being a little shit and jumps to defend them by denying any and all accusations and then providing emotional support (you can tell i thought about this in a very abstract way)

Ok ok i actually have this scene in a lot of detail here inside my brain: Iduna is driving Elsa somewhere, Anna decides to accompany them, and they share a kiss before Elsa leaves. As she watches her walk away, she mentions to her mother that she wants to marry her some day (HER SISTER. NOT HER MOTHER). And almost immediately she begins crying, because life isn't fair and she loves her and she only wishes they could be happy together. Iduna hugs her and kisses her hair and tells her it's okay, that she loves them and wants them to be happy and that she's so, so sorry. This is perhaps the first time Iduna fully takes her daughters' side rather than seeing their relationship as an enemy to defeat.

Going grocery shopping with Anna and Elsa is the funniest thing ever because Anna will steal a cart and Elsa always chases her all over the supermarket trying to stop the upcoming disaster. This is why Agnarr never brings them along and why Iduna always does (though she'll claim not to know them if asked).

Ok so, when a parent is considered healthy???I mean I've read a lot of articles about abusive parents but how does a healthy parent look like??

That’s a really good question! And I’m going to answer it with a list of traits good/non-abusive parents have, based on my experiences with my dad, on my friends’ experiences, and on other posts on the matter I’ve reblogged before with the tag #good parenting (links included). If anyone has something to add to the lists, please go for it!

I would like to preface this by reminding everyone that nothing is black and white: some abusive parents will have traits typical of healthy parents, and some non-abusive parents won’t have all these traits. I don’t want anyone to read the list below and think that since their parents fit one or two of the traits, they can’t be abusive. My own abuser fits some of these!

With that out of the way:

What does a healthy parent look like?

1. When they do things wrong, they own up to it.

No parent is perfect. Every single parent makes mistakes and hurts their kid without meaning to at some point in life; maybe by insisting too much or asking too many questions when their kid just wants to be left alone, maybe by not supporting their kid enough because they don’t notice their kid’s needs in time...

But the difference between a non-abusive and an abusive parent is that, upon realising they are doing something hurtful, non-abusive parents will apologise, will admit without a problem that what they did was wrong, and will do everything in their power to do better from now on. Because they care more about their kid's wellbeing than they do about being right. They care more about their kid's needs being met than they do about being held accountable.

Many abusive parents, on the other hand, will deny ever doing something wrong or look for ways to justify it, such as shifting the blame to the kids for making them mad. If you try to talk with an abusive parent about how they made you feel, they may say you’re attacking them or disrespecting them; they may call you weak/childish/disgraceful/selfish, they may act like they’re the victims in the situation, they may ignore you altogether, and a long etc.

Which brings me to the next point:

2. They don’t punish or dismiss you for feeling negative emotions toward them.

When a parent is not abusive, things like disagreeing with them, arguing with them, bantering with them, and even purposefully riling them up/rebelling against them are safe to do. Sure, they may get mad; but you won’t be scared of them if they do, because they won’t resort to violence, threats, insults, or ghosting: your basic needs as a human (including food, safety, comfort, emotional and financial support, etc) will never be at stake.

3. They allow you to have privacy, autonomy, and boundaries.

They knock and wait for your reply before walking opening the door/walking into your room. They don’t rummage through your things or go through your phone unless they have explicit permission from you to do so. They don’t get involved in your personal life behind your back, or force you to disclose information you don’t want to freely give to them. Even if they give you (a realistic amount of) house chores to teach you about responsibilities, they allow you to manage your time and do them whenever it’s most convenient for you, so that you can decide when to take a break/do things you enjoy, when to do homework, and when to do your chores. They don’t demand that you be available for them at all times: you can have time off to play videogames, read, go out with friends, or just scroll through your phone without having to be ready to help them/spend time with them on demand. And if they do want you to do something with them, they will offer to spend time together and allow you to say no. For example: “Hey, kiddo! I’ve decided I’m going to bake some muffins/go to the mall/go for a walk, do you want to join in?” “Aw, that’d be cool, but I’m chatting with some friends on Discord right now!” “That’s okay, have fun! 😁”

4. They give you good kinds of attention.

Following the previous example, it’s not enough for a parent to not give you bad kinds of attention, like demanding you spend time with them when you don’t want to, demanding you disclose information to them, etc. Non-abusive parents will ask you about your day. They'll want to spend quality time with you, get excited about the things you’re passionate about, share their hobbies with you, and respect and show interest in yours. They’ll let you enjoy your personal time and do things that don’t involve them, but you’ll still probably have things you love doing together, like doing puzzles, cooking, watching movies, going on walks... or anything else!

Non-abusive parents will encourage you to be who you are, to try new things and give up the ones you don’t like; they won’t blame or mock you for changing your mind about your career path or your extracurricular activities, and they’ll celebrate your successes with you and support you and encourage you when you don’t succeed, instead of pointing out your flaws and failures or labelling you a “bad child” and giving up on you. They’ll be your #1 fans and support you when you struggle!

That being said, of course, they’ll hold you accountable for your mistakes; but always with the aim of supporting you and raising you into a healthy, happy person who can understand that other people also have boundaries, and not for the sake of making you feel bad or to “prove” you’re worse than them, or than your siblings, or than anyone else.

5. They protect you from their problems.

Obviously, this depends a lot on the kid's age; a 16-year-old will have a lot more skills to understand and help with certain adult problems than a 6-year-old.

But if, for example, the non-abusive parents of a 6-year-old are stuggling financially, and they can’t or choose not to keep it from the kid, they will not make the kid feel like they’re causing the problem by having needs (such as food, doctors, heat during winter...) or make them feel like the problem is their responsibility. Something many abusive parents do is tell us/make us feel like things that are completely beyond our control are somehow our fault, and when we’re still not done growing up (even at 16!), feeling like we’re somehow the cause of a problem we can’t possibly fix can be deeply traumatic. So a non-abusive parent, instead, may let their kid know about the problem in a way that the kid can feel like they’re helping fix the problem. For example, for a 6-year-old, they may make up a game where any time you catch a light turned on in an empty room at home, you have to turn it off. And then when the kid proudly says they caught two lights on and turned them off that day, the parent will act super proud and give them a hug! Instead of, for example, complaining in front of the kid about how many lights were left turned on or accusing other family members.

And that’s all I can think of! But before I conclude this post, I would also like to bring some attention to what having a healthy parent feels like, because I think that as much as we try to differentiate between abusive and non-abusive/healthy parents, at the end of the day, the most important thing is how their behaviours affect us and make us feel.

So, going by the previous list, here are some ways having a non-abusive parent feels like:

1. You’re not scared to bring up negative or positive topics with them.

You’re not scared to disagree with them, to be angry at them, or to say “no” to them. You’re not scared to let them know things about you, or to share the things you’re excited about with them. If you have healthy parents, you’ll probably want to call them or text them when you receive good news! You’ll want to celebrate your successes with them, and you’ll also feel safe going to them for help and comfort when something bad happens to you, because you know they won’t judge or punish you for struggling and that the most important thing to them will be making sure you feel supported and safe, and not whether or not you messed up.

2. You’re comfortable sharing a space with them.

You don’t mind or fear dancing around in the living room while they watch TV, going for a random snack, or pacing the hallway while you study for your upcoming exam. You’re not scared they’ll demand your time, scream at you, or interrupt you. You’re not scared of them acknowledging your existence and presence in the house; crossing paths with them while you’re all going about your afternoons is a non-event, and so is them walking up to you to ask you something.

3. You enjoy spending time with them.

And you don’t do it out of guilt, fear, or obligation. You do it because you feel like it, because you like sharing things with them, because it’s fun! And not despite your body screaming at you to be as far away from them as possible and your brain telling you you’re a bad kid for not wanting to be around them in the first place.

Edit: I would like to reiterate that nothing is black and white, and that it's completely possible to not fit neatly into one of the two categories described above. It's possible to have good parents and still not enjoy sharing activities with them because you have depression, or to have good parents but not be able to trust them because someone else abused you, or a long, long etc. It's also possible to enjoy doing certain activities with your abusers, or to have good memories with your abusers. And, again, a long etc! I don't want to invalidate anyone's experience—just to hopefully help people with abusive parents understand how healthy relationships with parents usually work so they have something to compare their experiences with.

Hi y’all!

Welcome to the first Writing Help post in what will hopefully be many!

I decided to start this (and with this topic in particular) because a handful of people asked for help with creating moodboards on Pinterest after I shared my own. I thought it seemed like a good idea to take what I know and what I use to help my fellow writers! There are quite a few ideas I have for future topics, like creating project playlists, character development worksheets/profiles, and a smut thesaurus (aka words that aren’t as gross as what most romance writers use).

Now to get into creating your moodboards!

Getting Started

I’m going to use the project I’ve been working on the longest as an example for this post. The Girls of Dogwood Villa is going to be a four part series. Typically, I make one board (with several sections) for each of my writing projects! The board will have the title of the project, or the working title for the project. Each section will be named for either a character, a relationship (friends, family, romantic), a setting/location or a general aesthetic.

Characters

For the character sections, I create one section for each main character. There are times, of course, where I’m particularly interested in a side character for whatever reason so I’ll do sections for them as well.

Since I always choose a face claim for my characters, I’ll pin photos of the person I chose to the section as well as aesthetics for said character, things the character enjoys (like hobbies, music, clothing), things like that.

For The Girls of Dogwood Villa, I also made a side character section where I pin face claims for side characters so I have quick and easy access to what they look like, what I imagine them as in my head, when writing about them.

Relationships

When creating relationship sections, I make sections for all types of relationships - romantic, friends, siblings, etc. However, I only create sections for characters that are going to end up in a romantic relationship in the series. Sometimes I do ship my characters with characters they aren’t going to end up with but that’s just fun for me, in my head. If this is something you’d enjoy, absolutely make sections for whatever pairings you have in mind!

For the moodboard I made for The Girls of Dogwood Villa, I stuck with sections for romantic relationships and then threw in an extra pairing section for the two sisters from the first book. As I am still plotting out the remaining books in the series, this is subject to change. It’s important to be flexible when it comes to your boards!

Setting/Location

These sections can be included in the general aesthetic section if you don’t have an interest in them. For me, it’s helpful especially for different living situations, the various stores and shops that characters might visit, and even to keep up with different towns/cities/etc.

In The Girls of Dogwood Villa board, I have a section for Hawaii as this is where a large portion of the story takes place. For another project that I’m working on, I have sections for different kingdoms. If I’m blanking on what a location looks like, I’ll browse the photos and describe what I see. It definitely helps with writer’s block.

General Aesthetics

This section isn’t a necessity either but it definitely helps when I’ve gotten stuck. I’ll look through this section and it will put me back in the story, into the mood I want it to have and it gets the creative juices flowing again.

Although I don’t have one for The Girls of Dogwood Villa, I do have them for most of my other projects. There are landscapes, candid photos, and other things that just create the mood I expect each project to have.

Finding Pins

When I’m looking for things to add to each section, there are several different things I’ll search on Pinterest:

Aesthetic

Character Aesthetic

OC Aesthetic

Original Character Aesthetic

Blank* Aesthetic (*i.e. witchy, moody, dark academia, etc)

Using Pinterest from a laptop or desktop is ideal for creating these boards because you can change what you’re searing for from pins to boards. This will allow you to find boards created by others, with similar themes and aesthetics. I will have billions of tabs open in Chrome with these boards, spend hours going through them and pinning to my own boards from there.

Also, when you have pinned enough things, Pinterest eventually picks up on the aesthetic you’re going for and will suggest things that usually fit what you’ve already got going on in your boards.

Using the Boards

As I’ve already mentioned above, if I’m stuck at a part or find myself pulled from the story, I’ll open my moodboard for the project and scroll through it until I find myself filled with inspiration again. Sometimes I’ll even spend some time finding new things to add to the board and that helps with the writer’s block too!

Of course, I typically have my project playlist playing as well! 😉

MBTI: ENFJ-A, my sign is libra, reading and writing is my hobby, but in the summer months I prefer to go outside to a walk or meet with my friends and hang out, I don’t think that I have specific skill but I have tried many things 😅 Like climbing, kickboxing, dancing and a few other things (like Knitting 😂). most of the time, no one entertains his antics and dramatic movements so when you show up… both of you are talking nonstop, like… Kasamatsu has to DRAG this man away from you before he yapped his mouth off to the sky

however, you’re able to keep Kise in check because he’s not so friendly to strangers, since he won’t think they’re “worthy” until they prove him wrong otherwise; in other words, you’re the one doing the friendly conversations with strangers while Kise steps back to observe the newcomer for a bit

gosh, he thinks it’s SO CUTE when you try to laugh off your embarrassment whenever that happens because it just makes the conversation livelier, y’know? Kise is always the one doing the fake tears and over-the-top exclaims, so he feels warm when he sees you taking things easy too

he finds it annoying that you can’t bring yourself to say no to people, solely for the reason that he hates the possibility that you can easily get yourself taken advantage of by other people

and knowing Kise, he doesn’t see other people very highly at all (again, until they prove him wrong)

it’s the feeling he gets that bugs him so much from seeing the person he respects a lot (a.k.a. you) being used by some no-gooder random person who he thinks isn’t worth of your time nor effort

“(y/n)-cchi!! If this person is pestering you, just say so! After all…” Kise turns from you to face the person in front of you with a cold gaze. “They wouldn’t be here for anything else other than because they care about you… right?”

it’s the “subtle” lines and passive-aggressiveness (or just outright cold-cut brutal words) he gives to the people with ulterior motives, since he knows you’re a people-pleaser and can’t bring yourself to turn people down

he already loves your liveliness, but the fact that you’re actually determined for the things you’re passionate about or you set your mind on? you’ve completely won him over at this point

he feels the exact same way in his own life, not really taking academics too seriously but dead set on trying to be the best in sports

you say that your private life is usually the priority, where you’re often too busy in your studies and work to hang out with friends… but that’s exactly how Kise also operates

his life primarily revolves around basketball and modeling, that’s it; contrary to popular belief, he actually has no free time to hang out with other classmates or non-basketball friends (honestly, it seems like his only friends are people related to basketball)

in fact, in one of the Replace novels, even though Kise knew what to say to the girls (who were coworkers from his modeling work) in the group date with his Kaijō teammates because he’s socially smart, he actually doesn’t know how to genuinely connect with them at all because he’s primarily a basketball junkie // the moment one of his teammates pulled up a basketball strategy chart at the date, every single teammate became completely engrossed and enthusiastic in analyzing potential plays… completely ignoring the girls at the table the entire time

so what I’m saying is, Kise won’t feel as pressured to constantly hang out with you and do his obligatory “boyfriend duties” that a lot of people might immediately expect (or even demand for)

of course he’d be sweet and affectionate, but it’s only a matter of time and priorities, and he’s thankful that you’d at least keep yourself busy while he works on his own goals too

he’d stare at you in wonder when you tell him you have two younger sisters, because he himself has two older sisters; he’d ask you how does it feel to be the eldest, or if you somehow influenced/encouraged any of your younger siblings to do a hobby/skill

knowing that you’re the eldest in the family makes him respect you more because that just means you’ve dealt with so much more with younger kids and sees you as the more “responsible” one between you and him

he finds your height endearing… you’re like a Kuroko, and he gladly headpats you and try to do other things to you like how he would to Kuroko to tease him or something

he’s a model, but he places more emphasis on attitude/aura/skills way more than appearances; it’s those three attributes that make someone super attractive to him

besides, he only started modelling because of one of his older sisters, and he thinks it’s fun anyways… I mean he knows that he’s a conventionally attractive guy, but he likes to think that he exudes the confidence and skills to back it up too

long story short, you’re attractive to him

he’s further convinced that you’re secretly Kuroko when you tell him that you love to read and write, and once again, his respect meter for you shoots up OFF THE CHARTS

Can we know more/see some stuff with Ecto’s parents? How did they react when they found out they where going to be parents?

Their designs are still just sketches right now and as I mentioned in a past ask, I won’t be uploading for a while but when I’m ready to post I’ll share them (and hopefully the story of how Higari first reacted to meeting them) also don’t have names for his parents yet so they’ll be referred to as Ecto’s dad/mum

Here are some notes on their story though and when Ecto was little!

-Ecto’s dad was a singer with a light based quirk. He could absorb light and then shoot it out in light beams from his palms or eyes - if he absorbs natural light he’ll be happy and peppy, if he absorbs artificial light he’ll be more serious and will often tend to fake his feelings, and if he can’t absorb a lot of light (during winter or something) then he’ll be grumpy. He takes Vitamin D supplements to help when touring and in winter. He was never interested in family at the start of his music career, he got into the music industry at a young age so the fame went to his head, for many years he was purely focused on being in the lime light and preforming. Ecto’s mother was head worker in backstage and special affects and possed the quirk Anthropomorph, she could make human like clones from any human sized object and control them at will. Being the head of backstage and special affects she worked closely with Ecto’s dad when his singing began to gain a lot more popularity. At first he viewed her as just a member of his stage team, nothing more, and it took years before their co worker relationship developed into genuine friends

-Being on a stage and preforming for so long took a toll on Ecto’s dad, being around all the artificial light thanks to the affects of his quirk left him most days feeling drained once he was behind the safety of his private tour bus. He’s a natural at hiding his feelings so after preforming he tended to be bitter towards co workers, faking feelings could be exhausting, especially when you had to sing also. One day after a tour of America Ecto’s mum comes into the tour bus with her bosses ordered food, only to find the man laying down face first on his sofa in a sad heap. He’s whining and fussing, all the artifical light from stage having turned him into a drama queen, insisting that he’s loosing his touch, the tour was a disaster, and how his career might as well be over. Ecto’s mother, still calm, places down his food and insists that though one day yes his career will come to an end, it won’t be today. She sits there to offer him company while he eats, and once he’s finished and has taken some Vitamin D supplements she takes her leave, wishing him a goodnight on the way out.

-When they arrive back in Japan Ecto’s dad is more then a little embarrassed at the incident on the tour bus involving his immature behavior and Ecto’s mum. At first he tries his best to avoid her, not wanting her to bring up the topic, but in the end the embarrassment and worry she may tell someone becomes too much, and so he pulls her aside to sheepishly ask she keeps the incident to herself. Ecto’s mum reassures she hasn’t told anyone of what happened, but is prompted to ask why it was he had gotten himself in such a state, when he seemed perfectly fine minutes before he got onto the bus. Ecto’s dad doesn’t want to explain the functions of his quirk and how it affects his personality around other staff members, but he does feel like he at the very least owes her an explanation (he didn’t want her thinking he was acting like a child just for the sake of it). After work he takes her into his office and shyly explains how his quirk works, how all the artificial light on stage makes him cranky, and how he always has to keep vitamin D supplements handy preforming, and how he doesn’t host any performances during the winter time because of this. Opening up such a vulnerable part of him to someone he hardly knew was hard. and in the following weeks kept a close eye on Ecto’s mum to make sure she didn’t gossip. To make sure she doesn’t he promotes her to his personal manager, where the two are forced to spend more time together. Ecto’s mum has her suspicions that he was keeping her in line by keeping her close, and so once again, is prompted to ask why it was he chose a music career if he didn’t want people to know of the drawbacks to his quirk. He answers sincerely that he loves to sing, and from a young age has always wanted to preform. In school talent shows, to his family, in the theater production, he did it all. Singing was his talent, and he loved to do it, even if that meant some days of preforming on stage where harder then others. Yet again he opened up another vulnerable part of himself (he didn’t really get to talk about all this personal stuff much, so a small tiny part of him was glad she asked because then he could get it off his chest). Ecto’s mum however, smiles at him, and before he can ask, she promises she won’t tell anyone.

-This was where the friendship began to turn into something real. Ecto’s dad felt as though he could expose the vulnerable and more negative sides to his personality in her presence, and Ecto’s mum offered an ear or just company for him to be with. With Ecto’s dad being a singer it was hard for the two to go on dates/spend time together after his shows, so most days they’d spend their time together in his private estate. The first thing Ecto’s mum was surprised about was how big and well kept his garden was, Ecto’s dad having a light based quirk wanted to have a house with a BIG garden, gardening is one of his more personal hobbies outside of singing. When they spend time at his home, Ecto’s mum gets to see his more positive side, the side of him that comes out around natural light. He’s funny, he’s charming, he’s...surprisingly eccentric and funny, and is a huge dork. Now when he’s preforming she can’t wait to see the dorky side of him when he’s back at home, this is where the two become something more as best friends then boss and worker. Years into their friendship on his birthday Ecto’s mother plans a special surprise in his schedule - Ecto’s dad’s birthday comes just after winter, when he’s the most miserable. Ecto’s mum basically became his babysitter in this time because he hardly left his bed. Ecto’s mum wanted to give him something special for his birthday by organizing a week’s vacation for him off in the country. Ecto’s dad is so ecstatic that he pulls her into a giant hug and spins her round the room, and then - after his mother got over her shock - eagerly invites her to join him on his holiday. The two spent many lazy afternoons laying in giant fields, doing all the typical country holiday things - packing picnics, star gazing, sleeping in till gone ten. To this day that holiday is one of their fondest memories together

-Their first kiss happened when the two went out into a big field to have a picnic, Ecto’s dad was goofing around to try and get Ecto’s mum to put down her silly book and come have fun with him instead. She rolls her eyes, pretending to ignore him, but cracks up laughing when he trips on a stick and ends up toppling down the hill. She rushes down after him, still laughing away, to find him face first in the dirt. For about two seconds she’s concerned, before he rolls over also howling with laughter. The two spend the rest of the day rolling down hills, blowing grass in the others face, sun bathing and enjoying their picnic, where they then have a tender moment together and have their first kiss, both are blushing idiots afterwards and are equally giddy. When dating came into the picture Ecto’s dad was pretty upfront about it, being a singer who was pretty famous he wanted Ecto’s mum to understand that dating him would also mean she’d be the eye of attention too - of course she agrees to date him because she’s in love with this dork. They keep dating as private as they can, though it’s often hard as the two have this sort of silent flirting thing going on at work. Sometimes he’ll randomly pull a stupid face that’ll make her snort when she’s trying to be serious. and sometimes she’ll give him a quick kiss on the cheek before he goes up onto stage - they’re a very lovey dovey couple. Ecto’s mum was the one to bring up the topic of kids and a family, and though initially nervous about the idea, Ecto’s dad agrees and lil Ecto is born. Parenting is hard, especially with their careers thrown into the mix. They took a leave from singing and preforming when Ecto was very young, and would often have him babysat by someone close when his dad was preforming. The day his quirk kicked in, which was earlier then most quirks, was when the two had a proper talk about the future and what they had to do - they couldn’t constantly be working and parenting at the same time. It’s heartbreaking for his dad, but he quits the singing career, as much as he loved music he loved his kid more, and he didn’t want his selfish behavior to backfire and mess Ecto up in the future.

-They move into his estate with the big garden where Ecto grows up, his parents are a bit sheltering off him with his dad still being a well known singer for his past career. He’s sent to a private primary school for gifted children and then later on UA, his dad ends up loving lil Ecto even more then he did his singing, spoiled him a lot when he was little and still does, even though he’s an adult. Later down the line when Ecto is in his early teen years his dad is able to pick up music again, only this time he does his singing from home - he and his wife where able to make their own singing studio out at the back of their garden, run fully on natural light and the light he absorbs, he’s much happier recording from home then he ever was on tour, even if he’s not as popular as he once was.

Small side notes;

-Whereas Higari’s mum and dad called him and his siblings sweetpea, Ecto’s parents called him angel when he was little. Sometimes they’ll still call him angel to tease him

-His dad cried when Ecto showed interest in singing, proud dad moment. He was over the moon about it. When Ecto came home from UA the two would sometimes go to his singing studio to sing together. They also went to karaoke

-Ecto’s quirk caused the two a lot of stress. In the beginning Ecto didn’t have a lot of control over his quirk, so sometimes would accidentally make a duplicate of himself without realizing, mostly when he was yawning. Imagine the shock his parents had when they where out in the garden, lil Ecto would trip on a stone and just, sploosh, he turns to goo. It gave them a heart attack every time

-His dad sung him lullaby's when he was little

-They where ecstatic when they found out Ectoplasm had kids of his own. Finally Ecto you got them some grand kids took you long enough. They love Haiya and Riley so so much, Ecto tells his dad not to spoil them, but jokes on him he’s going to spoil them rotten and theres nothing Ecto can do to stop him

-Higari was terrified about meeting Ecto’s parents for the first time, since they where previously famous singers back in the day he was worried they wouldn’t approve of some dirty looking engineer dating their son. Ecto’s parents actually love Higari very much, heck Ecto’s dad actually very much enjoys listening to his stories from his time in the country. With Ecto’s dad being a fan of gardening he likes to hear all the stories Higari has of how he and his siblings would mess around in their garden when he was little

♚ ━━━ ❛ ALL ABOUT AUGUST.

G E N E R A L —

NAME. his full birth name is august ahn-evergreene, his last names being a combination of his maternal and paternal last names because his mother wasn’t going to allow her children to not have her last name in some fashion. however, in his twenties he drops evergreene and only uses ahn as his last name due to a rift with his mother / wanting an identity separate from her ( he’s not fond of his father either but he has a habit of leaving town so it’s easier for august to distance himself from that part of his family’s ‘legacy’ ).

AGE. he appears in his late 20s ( 27-30 ) but is around 60 years old due to the extended lifespan of a mage.

HEIGHT. he stands at 6′1 ( 185.42 ). no, he’s not a sloucher and is the type to internally judge people who do because stand up straight wtf?

WEIGHT. 170 pounds ( 77.1kg ). he’s lean and not overly muscular; doesn’t do much heavy physical activity anymore due to his current ‘condition’.

ETHNICITY. korean-filipino american mage. he comes from a bloodline of magic-users. if commenting on his natural magical prowess, expect a dry ‘of course, i was breed to be.’ in response.

OCCUPATION. he is what the people of crescent creek call ‘the overseer’, the highest sitting member of the council of novema ( or just ‘the council’ for short ). they are the ones who ‘govern’ the town and its people, establishing laws and stepping in to resolve high-level matters between residents if it should come to it. with the council needing to hear matters from the magi, vampires, fae, werewolves, and other beings, august has a constant headache.

GENDER. cis-male.

SEXUAL & ROMANTIC ORIENTATION. he would state that he’s heterosexual but admittedly he’s never fully explored his sexuality enough for that to be a definite statement. he hasn’t seriously dated in a very long time™ and it isn’t interested in changing that.

MBTI. INTJ-A, The Architect — it can be lonely at the top. as one of the rarest personality types – and one of the most capable – architects ( INTJs ) know this all too well. rational and quick-witted, architects may struggle to find people who can keep up with their nonstop analysis of everything around them. these personalities can be both the boldest of dreamers and the bitterest of pessimists. architects believe that, through willpower and intelligence, they can achieve even the most challenging of goals. but they may be cynical about human nature more generally, assuming that most people are lazy, unimaginative, or simply doomed to mediocrity.

S P E C I F I C S —

FAVOURITE FOOD. he’s very particular about getting his three meals a day in if he can but he probably has the most fondest for food that was often served at dinner time with his family or when all his cousins spent time at his lola’s house when they visited her. dishes such as bopis, kimchi, pancit canton, tocino and rice, korean styled steak, etc. are personal favorites.

FAVOURITE DRINK. his day isn’t complete without having a nice, chilled glass of vintage red wine during dinner ( and maybe just drinking straight from the bottle by the end of the night ). he does enjoy drinking rosé during a nice breakfast or lunch depending on the bottle.

FAVOURITE HOBBY. brooding. joking aside, he does enjoy sparring matches, ‘magical’ based sparring matches. he does practice taekkyeon ( korean martial arts ) and enjoys mixing spells in by shocking opponents, blocking their spells with his own wards, etc.

FAVOURITE SCENT. the smell of freshly cut grass as well as the scent of pomegranates, vanilla, cinnamon, and musk. the former is bittersweet and nostalgic, reminding of his years as a teen: when he was young, oblivious, and only had to be concerned about being late to football / soccer practice. the latter reminds him of someone he would rather forget.

FAVOURITE PERSON. i. his twin brother, ansel ahn. his death still hurts and he’ll always partially blame himself for it - despite the fact that there would’ve been nothing he could’ve done to change it. ( this is the part where that wand.avision quote is inserted in ). the loss of his brother dramatically changes the course of his life. ii. his lola, nora evergreene. she grounds him a lot. one of the few times he’s at peace is when he visits her for brunch every third saturday of the month. iii. his ex, audrey cramer. he would never admit it out loud though - at least not anymore.

T E N F A C T S —

he’s well versed in magical creatures : one of the 'gifts’ of being the overseer is the ability to traverse pass the veil - a barrier / entry way that exist between ‘earth’ and the many dimensions that exist beyond it. this ability, however, is one that has fallen out of use over the past few decades. ever the abnormally, august makes use of this ability for his own personal agenda. outside of the different races that already live within crescent creek ( witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies, etc. ), there are those that prefer to live freely in their own worlds rather than live in secrecy on earth. so yes, he has met unicorns and he thinks most of them are actually assholes.

on the nature of the veil : the origin of the veil itself is a mystery. all that is known that about its existence is that many millennium ago, those from different dimensions ( or ‘worlds’ ) were able to freely pass through it without the need of assistance or a spell. as time progressed and humanity began to rise, passage through the veil became increasingly more restricted, leading to entry ways within the veil being sealed and only accessible through the leader in each world ( ex. the overseer in crescent creek ). although the town of crescent creek has always traded with other towns, cities, etc. pass the veil, many of those trades have slowed to a stop entirely as those dimensions have become inaccessible. to somewhat ease panic and concern, the council has framed the issue being due to other dimensions permanently closing themselves off from earth ( a situation that has previously happened some worlds ). in truth, the veil itself has become 'infected’ by a foreign spell that’s led to the blocking of entry ways that lead into other worlds. due to not knowing the source of the spell and its affect on the veil, the knowledge of its presence is unknown to most people in crescent creek. // note: this is more of an overall ‘lore’ fact that explains the backdrop of what’s going on in this ‘world’ to understand other facts about him. in the grand scheme of things, this wouldn’t come up when interacting with him.

he doesn’t believe in astrologists, psychics, fortune tellers, etc. : which may seem contradictory considering he’s a literal magical being but in his experience, it’s typically humans pushing pseudoscience or mages using their magic to con clueless humans. people in that line of ‘work’ are hacks to him - especially since he’s seen it first hand with his own father’s profession.

over the past twenty years, he’s been continuing his brother’s research : ansel, his older, twin brother, had been studying the distortions within the veil in secret before his death a decade prior. although the status of the veil was supposed to be concealed to those outside of the council’s reach, ansel confided in his brother before his death. in august’s eyes, whatever spell that’s taken over the veil is an active threat and with the backing of onyx crane, a vampire on the council, and his cousin, faye evergreene, he began an almost obsessive-like determination to complete his brother’s work and find answers - even if it’s to his own detriment. // *note: with a big soap opera trope being people returning from the dead, it shouldn’t be shocking to discover that ansel, is in fact, not actually dead. he used a storm that hit the town as a means to fake his own death ( disasters that kill off characters is usually a soap opera storyline that happens during ‘sweeps’ period ) and left town for his own agenda.

the youngest overseer to sit in the council : his status as the overseer is one steeped in controversy due to...a variety of reasons: an overseer typically is replaced by another council member by vote or an apprentice to the overseer should they have one after an overseer’s death, resignation, or if they’ve been forcefully discharged from the position. none of these things applied to august’s own mother, tala ahn-evergreene, when he usurped her - blackmailing the council by threatening to expose the truth about the current threat of the veil. // *note: in every ( american ) soap opera, it is a staple to have a ‘thing’, whether it be a business, a central institution in town ( ex. a hospital ), or a position ( CEO of a company, chief of staff at a hospital, etc. ) that many of the characters are tied to or even fighting for control over. ELQ, the quartermaine’s family business on general hospital, often have storylines where family members are fighting over shares of the company, who should run it, or the family teaming up to oust an outsider that’s taken over the company ( funnily enough, there is a story like the latter happening on the show right now ). the point here is that being the overseer or even sitting on the council of novema is that ‘thing’ that people fight over to be on for various reason.

he takes his personal upkeep very seriously : there’s a lot of things one could say about crescent creek’s current overseer but no one can ever say they’ve seen august ahn not look put together when he’s out and about ( this is him going out publicly basically ). as someone who values consistency and control in his life but pretty much never has it, august actually highly treasures the time spent doing his morning / nightly skincare routines, getting his acupuncture treatments, and so on. he supports the self care movement essentially.

he ( as well as his siblings ) once witnessed one of his father’s affairs : it was an awful experience. -10/10. doesn’t recommend. this incident shapes his attitude towards relationships in general and how he operates within them. august has a very black and white attitude about relationships: you are either with him 100% or you’re not with him at all. it’s unhealthy and he has to unpack that. // *fun fact: this is actually a real event that happened with this family back in the sims 2 over ten years ago - they just all had different names, were a different race, and so on at that point.. they’ve changed a lot:tm:.

may be an active suspect for murder : it happens. when marlena cramer, a former council member, suddenly passes on, the town is overtaken by a wave of a grief...that soon becomes shock and suspicion when her death is rules to be from unnatural causes. between being one of the last people to see her alive and reports of him wanting her off the council, august becomes one of the prime suspects for her murder case. // *note: whodunit’s are probably up there with ‘who’s the daddy’ storylines in terms of being the most common soap opera staple ( ex. who shot j.r. on dallas ).

voted most likely to be successful in his HS yearbook : august was the picture perfect prom king, the jock that was friends with everyone on campus, and the one everyone expected ride off into the sunset with his hs sweetheart. on paper, august was well rounded - some would say outright perfect. today, those who knew him in high school would shake their heads and ask themselves what happened to the boy who always smiled at them when he passed you by in the hallway or whose laughter could easily be heard the loudest in a classroom. august, as he is now, is a stranger to those that once knew him.

it’s happening gradually but he is, in fact, dying : many of the worlds that had become unaccessible were not only blocked off but were actively decaying - many of its residents fleeing to other worlds before they were forever trapped in a dying one while others locked their entry ways to stop the spell from spreading to their own homes. the overseers in crescent creek were restricted from traversing the veil themselves due to the unknown risk of the spell, a rule that august actively ignores. every time he travels through the veil, the more the spell slowly eats away at him - a fact that he is well aware of and he has no desire to stop. he will keep traveling worlds ( and helping those he can ) until he finds the source of the spell and kills its caster himself.

COMMON WORDS / PHRASES THAT ANNOY THEM. during a misunderstanding or argument, the worst thing to tell him is that he ‘doesn’t understand’. even if the person is somewhat correct, august is a person that prides himself on being an objective observer of a situation, rational in his thinking, and not someone who lets his emotions dictate his choices. saying something like that to him would just further annoy him.

PERSONALITY TYPES THEY PREFER. those who are smart, loyal, and efficient. those who are willing to dirty their hands on occasion, and believe that the ends do justify the means.

PERSONALITY TYPES THEY AVOID. selfish and incompetent people, those who proceed to waste his time, useless people in positions of powers, jerky unicorns.

WHAT DO YOU FIND DIFFERENT / DISTINCT ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?

the whole concept of this ‘world’ is based around soap opera cliches and tropes so the character is intentionally ‘tropey’ and meant to pull from different fictional men from the genre - as well as outside of it. i would say him being the leading man is unique within itself because people of color in soaps ( at least within american soaps which this is all inspired by ) are generally never the leads or involved in what i actually watch soaps for: the drama, the love stories, the scheming, the cheating, etc. they’re usually the straight men to the white characters; living well off but boring lives and are rarely given front burner stories. all black people in a soap opera are usually always going to somehow know each other, only date each other, etc. you can switch black people out with latinos, asians, etc. and it would still be true. the characters of color are easily written off as a result of this.

in general, soap operas are very white - and still are today. they have a history of casting white people as mexican characters, ex. lindsay hartley as theresa on passions. asian american soap characters are severly lacking - i could probably count the amount of i’ve seen on screen. a black actress formerly on general hospital mentioned how people jokingly called the show ‘generally white hospital’ behind the scenes. chad.wick bos.eman left all my children because of how much of a stereotype his character was - and he was right ( ironically, michael b. jord.an was his recast ). some shows are getting better, bold and beautiful currently has a story involving two characters cheating ( one of which is black ) and it’s hot af but it’s still not enough for the times we’re in. this isn’t a problem exclusive to soaps either - most media has a problem with this. people of color aren’t getting lead roles and especially not romantic lead roles - even if they do, the shows always make it a interracial romance with a white person ( ex. bridg/erton ) as if people of color of different races are incapable of dating each other.

finally, i’ve noticed that you rarely see asian american men portrayed as romantic leads or desirable ( at least in a non-fetishized way ) in western media. that’s pretty lame:tm: so that was also a factor when i revamped audrey’s love interest ( parts of ‘old’ him still exist, ex. him being a jock / king of the school as a teen, a complicated relationship with his brother, etc ). anyway, stan august uwu.
