I really think Tales of the Jedi helps put Anakin/Ahsoka’s confrontation in the Mortis Arc into context. Ahsoka asks Anakin if he is proud of her.

For Ahsoka, the droid test in totj was easy. It wasn’t unfair for Anakin to challenge her and present her with something more rigorous. But he should have praised her. Everyone else seemed impressed, even excited at Ahsoka’s proficiency. Yet the person she really needs the reassurance from is her teacher. Her master. Her brother. He doesn’t give her much. She’s a teenager. While she’s resilient and wise, she still needs the positive feedback from adults in her life. Anakin isn’t even on time for her test.

So when Ahsoka confronts Anakin, her deepest fears and frustrations are founded in insecurity and his lack of recognition. He pushes her. It leads her to survive time and time again, but he doesn’t always allow her to enjoy her accolades or provide her with the praise she needs.

In the 501st painting their helmets and armor in Ahsoka’s image, they provide her the recognition and honor she didn’t always receive from Anakin. They helped train her. They helped raise her. They saw how hard she worked and when she returned to them, they made sure to give her what she deserved.

Let me start out my saying she adores you

like best friend, wants to spend all of her time with you, wants to be with you forever, adore

from the moment she was brought into your group as younglings, you two have been the best of friends

Ahsoka had a hard time at first, being separated from your parents at such a young age wasn’t easy for anyone

Luckily she had you!

You would cheer her up with a fun game, offering to ‘draw’ on her back as she guessed what you were ‘drawing’, or even challenging her to a fight

a fight which at the age of 5-7 was just made of tickles

Ahsoka never felt alone because she had you

And you had her

even as you started to grow up, your friendship never faded

no matter what table you sat with at meals, no matter what group you trained with, you and Ahsoka were always the closest in the group. Never really separating.

even at night, when every other youngling had gone to bed in the clan, the two of you would sneak into each other’s beds and trace each other’s backs until one of you fell asleep

more often than not, the clan leader(the leader of youngling groups called clans) had to make sure that the two of you went to sleep and got up in time

but as the years went on, the training got harder and time between you and Ahsoka became increasingly sparse

you would often watch Ahsoka meditate in the distance with a smile on your face as you waited your turn for sparing

one time that this happened, you were called up, pep in your step and a glowing smile on your face,

this smile was frequent when you thought about Ahsoka, it was hard for you to imagine anyone else looking at Ahsoka and not growing a smile

as you readied up, igniting your lightsaber, you thought of how well Ahsoka fought. smiling to yourself, you spared with the person before you and when you won, you began jumping up and down, turning to find Ahsoka smiling at you with her thumbs up.

even as the two of you became padawans and the clone wars started, the two of you always seemed to make time for each other

sometimes it was stolen glances during mission briefings

sometimes it was star gazing on the roof of the Jedi temple

sometimes they would sneak into each other’s rooms deep in the night to share a bed like they would as younglings

But all changed one day on a mission lead by the two padawans

things had gone bad, and they weren’t sure they could get out of it this time

trapped in a falling ship on a nearly abandoned planet with nobody to save them sounded like their last moments

they had tried to call the republic to save them but they were only met with interference

looking in each other’s eyes, they moved into a tight hug

“If we are going to die, I want you to know I am in love with you,” Ahsoka practically whispered into your ear

“I love you too, Ahsoka.”

At the last moment the republic swooped in to save you two, your Masters happy to have you back

From that day on, you promised each other that you would do anything in your power to stay together, as girlfriends.

You two were good girlfriends, as far as girlfriends went in the Jedi Order

and they really didn’t have relationships as a Jedi

So the two of you had to live in secret

Your stolen glances, shared beds, and star gazing never ceased but with your relationship came new opportunities

study dates in the Jedi archives, secret kisses before and after every meal, hand holding when alone, resting on one another’s shoulder

the two of you were close, anyone could see it but you could pass it off as being caring best friends

The one thing that made that whole process hard… was you

it’s not your fault really,

you’re a naturally bubbly and affectionate

your affectionate nature was part of the reason that you two got away with your closeness, in fact

but because of your naturally happy personality, at times it was hard to ignore how happy Ahsoka made you

almost everyone noticed

if they didn’t figure out that the two of you were in a relationship, and almost nobody did, then they defiantly thought that you had a crush on her

who could blame you?

the two of you were sweet two, she came in with her sarcastic comments and wit, and you were almost the polar opposite, with warm and excited words

the two of you made for quite the sight on the battle field

It also doesn’t help that you have almost revealed that you were in a relationship multiple times

a few times on missions, you almost introduced Ahsoka as your girlfriend to the people you were saving, right in front of someone in the order

Ahsoka could never get mad at you ofc <333

she loved you so much, and it made her smile to think that you were so excited to be her girlfriend that you want to tell others

and even though she knew that you and her may never be able to tell anyone, you would always be together

So I’m not sure what the episode number was, but I’m watching Clone Wars and last night was watching the Onderon rebellion plot in s5. Ahsoka is clearly having some big feelings about Lux and Steela and the Jedi are about to leave the planet and wanna put her in charge of overseeing/protecting the rebels. And Ahsoka is looking very 😐 and Anakin just goes “do you wanna stay here or go back to Coruscant, Snips?” And like that was so sweet??? It almost made me 🥹? Cuz the order needed more masters concerned about their padawans like that? And when she’s having her feelings and he later tells her he understands, that’s so validating instead of just skipping straight to “bury your feelings” (lookin at you, Obi Wan)? Like that was so emotionally mature and pre-dark side anakin is such a good person in an order that can be very extremist even though they think they’re not and so isolating and lonely and fucked up and very bad about systemically using people and then discarding them, then hiding behind the “oh it’s the Jedi way/will of the force”??? Like he and Ahsoka didn’t deserve to get treated the way they were at all???
