Sigourney Weaver plays an unintentional feminist icon in what is arguably the best movie in the franchise, Aliens (1986). The rich men in charge refuse to take Ellen Ripley’s eye witness account of the deadly xenomorph seriously. They even make her get a psychiatric evaluation. When they have to admit they need her expertise, the ones they hire to help her don’t take her seriously, either. But time and again she’s proven right and she survives after they’ve all died. This sequel is so much fuller than the first movie. There’s tons of personality and character growth all around. I love that Ripley isn’t hyped up to superhero status. She's an ordinary woman put in a bad situation and forced to adapt. You can’t escape the clear lesson that misogyny and greed ultimately end in death and destruction.

Nobody asked but over the last couple of days I decided to listen through every mainline Skinny Puppy album (all formal LPs + Remission which is for some reason considered an EP, never fully understood that) from beginning to end in order of release. I've listened to all these albums 5 billion times and know them more or less by heart but it occurred to me after the last show that I don't know if I've ever done this.
After each album I wrote a little Twitter-sized review of it and highlighted a few standout songs. This is, of course, because I originally did this on Twitter. It was a really fun little post-concert activity so I figured I would share it here too.
Maybe even a good introduction if I still have any followers putting off checking them out...? 👀
Remission (1984). The one that started it all. Kind of. Simpler than the rest maybe but still so iconic. “Far Too Frail” continues to be my favorite, hearing it live for one of the encores blew my mind. “Film” as the encore opener also brought tears to my eyes.
Tumblr media
Bites (1985). Still simpler than later outputs but also still a classic. Has a ton of really underrated instrumental-heavy/atmospheric tracks, and “The Choke” and “Last Call” are perfect songs. “Assimilate” is legendary but unfortunately gets hardcore overplayed lol.
Tumblr media
Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse (1986). The addition of DRG is palpable. SP starts coming into their own and sounding less like a Cabaret Voltaire tribute band. Lol. Moodier, more complex, and lush with dark soundscapes. “God’s Gift (Maggot)” is one of the best.
Tumblr media
Cleanse Fold and Manipulate (1987). From the first beat of “First Aid” onwards, this is one of THEE quintessential Skinny Puppy albums. IMO the real start of their “golden era.” Contains some of my favorite songs of ALL time. “Addiction” is easily a no contest top 5 SP track.
Tumblr media
VIVI SECT VI (1988). One of the greatest. Noxious war zones, sterile hospitals, choking, burning, cold clanging cages in animal laboratories. One of the darkest, most nightmarishly psychedelic, heaviest, absolutely masterfully crafted albums. “VX Gas Attack” remains unparalleled.
Tumblr media
Rabies (1989). Hi Al. This album just oozes sex appeal. I never get tired of it. It has a deranged masculine militaristic machine gun energy unlike anything else. I’ll never tire of “Hexonxonx,” “Worlock,” or “Tin Omen.” And ending on the dreamy delirious “Spahn Dirge”… Goddamn.
Tumblr media
Too Dark Park (1990). A lot of people call this one THE supreme SP album. It’s legendary. Pure unadulterated Skinny Puppy. Sounds like home. An endless barrage of chaos and stormy monstrous polluted amorphous landscapes. “Grave Wisdom” is an all time favorite ever.
Tumblr media
Last Rights (1992). The most utterly mindblowing devastating masterpiece of an album maybe ever made. The cohesiveness of the themes, sounds, lyrics, imagery—pure art. It’s a terrifying and desolate hellscape. Flung into sonic Knowhere. “Mirror Saw” is pure perfect transcendence.
Tumblr media
The Process (1996). I have some trouble with this album—It can just make me very sad. You can both feel and hear the devastating loss. Barren and hopeless. Still, it’s TEEMING with absolutely rocking, heavy, guttural bangers. “Cult,” “Blue Serge,” and “Curcible” stand out.
Tumblr media
The Greater Wrong of the Right (2004). A personal fave. Forever enthralled by the dreary smoking futuristic cityscapes painted by the various textures across each track. An epic journey through destruction of civilization and the mind. “Goneja” is an easy top 5 SP song for me.
Tumblr media
Mythmaker (2007). Used to struggle with it, was even my least favorite, but it’s grown on me and I love it. A high octane reality-bending journey through alien dimensions and human mythos. If Ogre’s alien Other belonged to an album it’d be this one. I adore “Dal” and “Pedafly.”
Tumblr media
HanDover (2011). Grossly underrated and constantly written off, I ADORE this album. It captures a sort of dreamlike melancholic sharp surrealism unmatched by anything else, like rain falling softly atop a rusting metallic dystopia. “Gambatte” is a stand-out forever favorite.
Tumblr media
Weapon (2013). A fitting end. Nostalgic familiarity rejuvenated with sharp crispness. This one taps deep into my imagination; post-apocalyptic fantastical mechanical wastelands haunted by ghosts of the past. “Plasicage” is an all-time fave, and I love the reimagined “Solvent.”

I am constantly scared of horror movies to the point that I make an effort to not watch them but the passion you have for them makes me want to watch one and expand my horizons. Any horror recommendations for someone who gets spooked easily? I’m fine with gore btw it’s more like realistic anxiety situations scare me like stuff that has to do with being kidnapping/feeling trapped. Have a wonderful night <3
Aw this is so sweet, I'm glad you're wanting to expand your horizons and I'm honored to be your guide! I think you'd enjoy more comedy horror, cheesy horror and horror that is more monster based. I can recommend some horror you could handle but I'd definitely stay away from movies like Saw, Hostel, The Black Phone and others like those.
I'd also recommend watching the trailers for these recommendations just so you can get a taste of them before you dive right in. I hope you enjoy trying out some horror! 🖤
Little Shop of Horrors (1986) its a musical! Rick Moranis is amazing as a guy who gets an alien plant that has an unusual appetite
The Monster Squad (1987) some nerdy horror fans have to save their town from classic monsters that show up
Night of the Living Dead (1968) a zombie movie with minimal scares and an important marker in horror history!
They Live (1988) An alien movie with reflections on society
The Lost Boys (1987) California vampires. that's pretty much it
Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) another musical! campy, fun and queer as hell. one of my favorite movies in the whole world.
Re-Animator (1985) a lil science dude gets his roommate to help him bring people back to life [there is a sexual assault scene towards the end just fyi]
Evil Dead 2 & Army of Darkness (1987 & 1992) Bruce Campbell as a dude who can't catch a break. possessions, time travel, chainsaws, and catchphrases you'll be saying forever
Ginger Snaps (2000) a girl werewolf movie!! sisterhood, puberty, and some awesome special effects
Trick 'r Treat (2007) follow the rules of halloween or a cute lil guy will come and kill you. love this one so so much! also fun intertwined stories
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) one of my favorite movies! clowns, cotton candy, 2 dudes and 1 girl with a whole lot of chemistry flowing between then and a giant clown boss
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) Elvira's her usual beautiful campy self in a movie where she deals with a small town, an old wizard dude and a show in Vegas
Scream (1996) a slightly realistic slasher movie that pokes fun at horror movies and fans. a great cast and ofc the iconic costume
Beetlejuice [and honestly a lot of Tim Burton movies]
Any/All of the Universal Monster movies [Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolf Man]
Jennifer's Body (2009) A girl gets possessed and hunts down boys while her best friend tries to stop her. queer undertones, awesome leads and iconic lines
Zombieland (2009) a fun silly zombie movie with an awesome cast
Willy's Wonderland (2021) starring Nicholas Cage as a stranger who comes to town and has to deal with some silly possessed animatronics [big five nights at Freddy's vibes]
Dave Made A Maze (2017) a guy who's lost in life builds an insane labyrinth in his living room and it comes to life. such a good movie mixing horror, comedy and life lessons
Feel free to message me/send an ask for more recommendations, your thoughts on ones you watch, or anything else!

Doraemon Vol. 17 from The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio
Tumblr media
The stories here were published in 1986–1994 and include the last short-form Doraemon manga stories ever released. (We're not done with the Complete Works series yet though.) Some of the most iconic ones from this volume (as determined by my personal experience and biases):
"恐怖のディナーショー" ("Terrifying Dinner Show", 1989): Gian tasks Nobita with distributing tickets to his dinner and a show, but the prospect of Gian's singing combined with his cooking is so horrifying that everyone makes up excuses to avoid coming.
"ドラえもんが重病に?" ("Is Doraemon Seriously Ill?", 1989): Doraemon refuses to return to the 22nd Century for a health checkup, not wanting to leave Nobita alone, but then starts malfunctioning badly.
"宇宙戦艦のび太を襲う" ("Space Battleship Attack on Nobita", 1990): Doraemon gives Precognitive Dream Candy to Nobita, who ends up dreaming of an alien invasion. Nobita and Doraemon attempt to warn everyone, but aren't taken seriously.
"ネコののび太いりませんか" ("Would Anyone Want a Nobita Cat?", 1990): To try and convince his mom to keep an abandoned cat, Nobita turns himself into the cat using the Animal Reincarnation Egg, hoping to show her how helpful a pet cat can be.
"ハワイがやってくる" ("Hawaii is Coming", 1990): Nobita is envious that everyone but him has gone on interesting family trips over summer vacation, so Doraemon takes him on a trip to Hawaii by using the Time-compression Gun to speed up plate tectonics, moving the Hawaiian Islands close enough to be reachable from Japan by rowboat.
"ガラパ星からきた男" ("The Man from Planet Galapa", 1994): Nobita doesn't have enough money to buy the latest popular video game, so he time travels one month into the future to get some from his future allowance. However, he discovers that the town has somehow been taken over by ant people. This is the only "intermediate-length" Doraemon manga story, being shorter than the Doraemon Long Stories that the movies were based on, but still having originally been published over the course of several months.

hi! I really like your blog, thank you for sharing! also I don't really read/like comics all the much but I love the characters (esp Clark) and have been intrigued lately, so I was wondering if you could please rec me The Essential and also your favorite superman and superbat ones?
Hi, thank you kind anon! It's great that you want to get into comics! I think it's a medium for everyone and even if you don't like the superman and superbat comics I'll recommend you, there's so much more out there that doesn't necessarily have to be superheroes even. There are just so many genres!
Anyway, for your superbat needs I have the Superbat reading guide. If you just want the essentials I would say stick to the ones with a star. And consider starting somewhere in a more modern era (such as the post-crisis, new 52, or current comics), because the older ones can be a bit harder to read at times.
As for Superman, I have a lot of recommendations (you've really opened a can of worms here, anon).
Easy to start with:
Adventures of Superman (2013) - This was a digital first series during new 52 but not set in any specific continuity, making it very accessible to new readers. It's what got me into Superman at the time.
Superman Red & Blue (2021) - Anthology series from last year. Just as accessible as Adventures of Superman.
Superman: Up in the Sky (2019) - Also highly recommended for getting into the character. A lot of different short adventures all part of one immense mission to save one little girl.
The best:
All-Star Superman (2011) - It's often said that you should not read this as your first Superman comic, but it was my first. Loved it then, and I love it even more with every re-read. Every page is a masterpiece, every panel an iconic Superman panel. Yes, I will continue to praise this book until the day I die. Don't spoil yourself by watching the movie first, read the book and then give the movie a try.
Origin stories:
Superman: For all seasons (1998) - A little shorter than All-Star, and a good introduction in my opinion. Clark growing up in Smallville and moving to Metropolis. Tim Sale's art is beautiful as well. If you like this, I also highly recommend Superman: Kryptonite by Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale, in which Clark discovers he can actually get hurt.
Superman: Birthright (2003) - I love this version of the origin story! Some absolutely iconic Superman moments in here, and Martha is an alien/extraterrestial geek, she even has her own website. (Don't worry, the Kents are still farmers in Smallville, Martha just has an interesting hobby).
Superman: Secret Origin (2009) - Maybe the most well-known origin story for Clark. I don't like it as much as the other ones but it's definitely essential reading.
Other essentials and highly recommended:
Action Comics #775 - This is rightfully a very often quoted Superman comic. It's Superman vs. The Elite, and the question of why doesn't Superman just kill his enemies? as well as what happens if superheroes do.
Action Comics by Grant Morrison (Action Comics vol. 2 #0-18) - This is new 52, I personally haven't read it yet, but I often see it recommended for getting into superman. Also considered an updated version of his origin / golden-age superman. I have to get around to reading it soon!
current Action Comics - The warworld story that started in issue 1030 has been really great so far. I think the writer really understands what Superman stands for and I look forward to the new issue every month.
Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow? - A classic. Officially pre-crisis, but it was the last issue before the big reset of DC comics in 1986. Tells the story of Clark's final adventure and what happens after.
Pre-crisis (my personal fave):
Superman: The secret years (Clark in College)
Superman #296-299 (Should Clark be Superman permanently or Clark Kent permanently?)
Superman #366-368 (Superman revenge squad)
Superman #400 (Miracle Monday comes from this anniversary issue)
Superman #408 (Impending nuclear war, answers the question of why doesn't Clark just disarm all nuclear warheads around the world)
Superman #416 (Make sure you read the main story and the back-up! And then go back again ;) )
Action Comics #500 (Anniversary issue, describing Superman's life)
There is sooo much more! I haven't even mentioned the 90s yet, which of course entails the death of Superman, the long hair, getting married to Lois and so much more. And the 2000s, of which I've only read a handful but a lot of it is really good. And golden-age Superman, which I've only recently really gotten into but I can't recommend it enough.
I can also recommend following the superman-bot on twitter that recommends a random comic every hour. It's worked wonders for me just reading random issues of which I like the cover and not worrying about continuity/reading order too much.
This is getting long but I hope it helps. I'm always happy to help with finding comics for Superman or Batman or other characters.
Anyway if I were to make an actual Superman reading guide it would just say 'start at action comics #1 and read everything inbetween that and the current issue of action comics'. So I've tried to contain myself here, really.

While technically no longer a driver, James Hinchcliffe, known as Hinch, is still an integral part of the field. He remains friends with most of the drivers and serves as an informal liaison between them and the series, emailing drivers after each race asking for their concerns and forwarding them on to those in charge. Now in a broadcast role at NBC for Indycar and select IMSA races, Hinch does not rule out racing again, should the right opportunity arise. As of 2023, he has become a 'big F1 guy' commentating on select F1 races for F1TV
2019 ESPN Body Issue Controversy? Rumor has it that Arrow disapproved of James baring it all and this contributed to him being 'relieved of his duties.' James remained under contract for 2020, under which he was required to be with the team on race weekends and make sponsor appearances, but was free to pursue other opportunities. In 2020, Hinchcliffe joined NBC Sports as analyst for IndyCar races and select IMSA races when he did not enter as a driver. Read the ESPN article and view the pictures.
Hinch often referred to himself as the class clown of Indycar while he was a driver, bringing his slightly irreverent sense of humor out as often as he could. He’s a natural in front of a camera, entertaining fans throughout his whole career. He’s very intelligent and capable of explaining complex concepts in an easy to understand way. He’s got a sunny personality, is very personable and is almost always full of good humor and enthusiasm.

Chapter 1: LV-444
Summary of the fic: Billy Hargrove and Steve Harrington were well known xeno hunters. Well, in their respective circles, of course. That weren't military or huge galaxy-sized tech businesses. Or even closely legal entities. Okay, they were doing what they did when the money was right, no questions asked. And they were good in what they did. They got even better when Eddie Munson, a crazy scientist, joined them. They had the gear, the knowledge, everything. All was going smooth, smoother than it had for a long while. So, they docked on Space Station U.D. on the orbit of planet LV-444. It was supposed to be a short, a few days long maintenance stop on their way to do some client work. Unfortunately, the client work seemed to have found them a bit sooner than expected...
MIND THE TAGS - S E R I O U S L Y. This is a horror/scifi/creature movie crossover and loyal to the film. If the image below makes you queezy, this is not for you. Unless you like that queezy feeling, then, happy reading :)

Notes: This fic hits more than one of the @now-showing-at-the-hawk-events Metalsandwich Movie Mania 2023 categories: Scifi film, Action film, Horror/creature feature film and iconic movie - since Aliens is THE scifi film of the 80s and still one of the best horror/military scifi films ever made. I tried to fit in some romance too, but if you know the film, space for romance is, uh, limited. I'm a huge fan of space opera because of this film, so it's been an absolute joy to write this.
::::::::::
Billy held the long, pointy head in front of Eddie’s face and nudged him until he awoke. “Argh!” Eddie screamed in horror, scrambling away when the first thing he saw was an eyeless stare and the row of pin sharp teeth of the deadliest creature he’d ever come across. When he realised it was Adam’s head, he hit it hard enough it fell off of Billy’s hand. “Jesus H. Christ, Hargrove! Get that fucking thing off my face!” he shouted.
The long, pointy skull flew on the floor with a hollow clank and continued its way skidding over the cabin floor and lodged itself under a bunk on the other side of the room, its deadly grimace shining under the bunk like a...well, like a monster under the bed.
Billy flopped on his bunk, cackling. “You should’ve seen your face! We’ve been hunting these bastards for years and you still get scared when you see one. And besides, it was Adam. You should’ve recognised it.” “I wouldn’t have wanted to have Adam an inch away from my face even when it was alive, you asshole! I almost shat my pants,” Eddie exasperated. Billy grinned. “Nah, you weren’t even close. And if you would’ve, we still would’ve remained as your family.” Eddie couldn’t hide a small smile. “Fuck you,” he muttered as he got up, throwing his t-shirt on Billy and going to the head.
Steve walked into the cabin. “Okay, I see that you both my darlings are awake, so allow me to finally get some shuteye, will you?” he said and flopped next to Billy, rubbing his eyes with his fingers. “Mother can take care of the flying for now, since all she needs to do is to follow the beacon of the space station. But as I already told you, she’s not working as she should. Somebody needs to take a look at her.” Billy wrapped his arm around Steve’s shoulders and placed a kiss on his temple. “I’ll make sure she’s taken care of when we get to LV-444.” “The ship needs to be docked manually,” Steve said with a wide yawn. “I’ll take care of that, too. You just have your beauty sleep, princess,” Billy said and stood up. Steve grabbed his hand and pulled him back down. “I didn’t get my goodnight kiss,” he said. Billy smirked and leaned down to kiss him. “Sleep. Me and Eddie take care of the docking.”
A few hours later Billy sat down on the pilot’s seat of their ship, commercial assault vessel Petrini, and put his headset on when the space station on the orbit of LV-444 hailed them. “This is Space Station U.D. LV-444 actual. Please confirm your status and state your business.” “U.D. actual, this is Executive Officer Hargrove of the Commercial Attack Vessel Petrini. Our Mother has been misbehaving and someone needs to inspect her. We’ve understood that your station has someone who knows how to do that on an ex-military vessel. Sending you our initials now.” After a moment of silence, the U.D. LV-444 actual replied, “Petrini, your initials have expired. Please send us updated ones.” “Shit,” Billy muttered. He searched a file on his screen and looked at the first ones on the list. He quickly typed the initial codes on the field where he could send them to the space station. “Sorry for the confusion. Here are the updated ones.” After a moment of silence, the space station returned on the line. “Your initials check out. Please, for the future, keep the initials updated for a smooth transition to station space.” “Yes, ma’am,” he acknowledged the request. No way was he telling that they didn’t actually have initials of their own but a list stolen from a vessel that probably would never set foot in space this far out and that he had to type the initials by hand to the required field. A proper hailing system would naturally give up-to-date initials automatically. But some things they had weren't actually legally acquired, so... “Our station maintenance crew can do the work for you. However, the next available time slot for commercial vessels is in two days from now.” Billy muted the mic to groan. Then he unmuted it. “Acknowledged. That works for us.” “Docking permission granted. You may proceed to dock O-7. Please note that U.D. is a military station with limited civilian access.” “Acknowledged. Proceeding to dock O-7. Petrini out.”
Eddie slumped to the second pilot’s seat next to Billy. “Do I have to stay on the ship the whole time again?” he asked. “They said the civilian access is limited, not forbidden. Besides, none of us could really access any military stations unless we were 'subcontractors'. But it doesn’t hurt that I’m ex-marines with Harrington.” “Yeah, I’m just the monster geek,” Eddie scoffed, and readied systems into docking position on his side of the dashboard. Billy looked at him and interrupted his own preparations to reach his hand out to Eddie. “Hey, I didn’t mean it like that. You’re the reason we’re out here. You’re precious cargo. For a lot of reasons.” Eddie glanced at him, not convinced. “Right. And it’s not even really me. It’s just what I can do.” “Come on, Eddie. Don’t make me get up and cuddle with you to assure you’re important while we’re in the middle of docking. You’re the sole reason we are on this mission. You’re actually important.” “Well, you shouldn’t have woken me up with Adam in my face. It made me grumpy,” Eddie said. Then he pointed a finger at Billy. “And by the way, if it broke when it hit the floor, it’s on you and you’re going to catch a new one for me.” Billy’s eyes grew wide, and he turned slowly to look at Eddie. “You’re kidding? Right?” “Messing with the one who handles the monsters has dire consequences.” Billy swallowed and returned to his task in guiding the Petrini into the correct docking ring. Not that he wasn't experienced with the xenos. Eddie just had ways to make him do what he told him to do. After a while, Billy reached his hand out again, this time squeezing Eddie’s arm gently. “Hey, I’m sorry. I really am.” When Eddie didn’t reply, Billy let go and returned to doing his own check-ups. He’d have to come up with a way to do something nice for Eddie.
The space station grew larger on the screens that displayed the view from outside sensors. It was a ring that had several other rings around it, each a dock. They were assigned to dock on O-7, which meant that they were going to dock on the other side of the station.
Billy activated the docking systems. “Unable to engage the automatic docking sequence,” Mother, the ship's AI, said. “Yes, Mother, I know,” Billy replied to the AI. “Manually overriding the docking sequence." “Affirmative. Manual docking sequence activated," Mother confirmed. “Okay, let’s go,” Billy said and guided the ship towards the correct docking ring.
While they flew over the station towards their dock, they had the time to admire the view of the planet LV-444. It was magnificent. The station was a mere speck in the orbit of the gas giant and it filled all of their screens almost in full. The surface of the planet was in a never-ending turmoil, dark clouds swirling on its surface, forever changing their patterns. The planet was called a planetary gas station: it had high levels of helium, neon, and other gasses in its atmosphere that were needed either in production of fuel for ships - or weapons. Which was why the military station was located here.
Once the ship was docked, Eddie went to wake up Steve. He sat next to Steve on the bunk and brushed his hair gently with his hand. “Hey, Steve, pumpkin, wake up. We’re here.” Steve let out a deep sigh and turned on his side, wrapping an arm around Eddie’s waist. “Come to bed,” he whispered. Eddie smirked. “Would love to. Can’t. We just docked. I need to find those new batteries for my hunting suit.” Steve rolled on his back on the bunk and let out a breath. “I had already forgotten the whole battery thing. I’ll come with you.” Eddie grinned. “Does Billy know you just assigned him to be in charge of Eve?” Steve chuckled. “He’s going to be so pissed when he hears about it.”
Billy walked into the cabin. “I’m going to be pissed about what?” His jaw went slack when he saw both Steve and Eddie grinning at him. “No. Fuck no. I’m not going to...Shit. You’re both going?” Billy’s voice went from groan to whine, “Eddie, you can’t leave me alone with her!” He looked at Eddie deadly serious. Eddie chuckled. “You’re supposed to be the ex-marine who fears nothing, yet...” “Hey, any marine, active or not, who has even a sliver of self-preservation skills left, agrees with me. Eve is fucking huge, all teeth, and she hates me with vengeance. I can't handle her.” Billy glared at Eddie and wrapped his arms around himself. Eddie got up and walked to Billy, hugging him. Billy wouldn’t look at him. “There’s no need for you to go down there," Eddie assured Billy, "and she doesn’t want to leave her habitat. Neither of you want to interact with each other. You’ll be fine.” “You better come be quick about it," Billy mumbled.
-oOo-
Eddie and Steve exited their ship and started to walk towards the commercial section of the space station. “Why did you need the new batteries for the hunter suits again?” Steve asked. “Weren't they supposed to be self-charging?” Eddie looked to his feet for a moment. “Uh...that might have not been the whole truth.” Steve stopped. “What do you mean?” When Eddie noticed that Steve wasn't by his side any more, he turned around. “I gathered parts from wherever I found them. Yes, some of them are self-charging. One in your and one in Billy's suit. The ones in my suit are not.” Steve tilted his head and smiled a sad smile at Eddie. “Why didn't you say so?” “Well, I did now, didn't I?” “I mean,” Steve said and walked to Eddie, wrapping an arm around his shoulders, “that if you'd told me that sooner, we could've snatched some of them on the last gig. There were plenty of them in that warehouse and we didn't take them with us since I and Billy thought we wouldn't have needed them. You need to talk to us.” “I know,” Eddie groaned. “But it's not easy. I've been doing this stuff alone for so long and...” Steve interrupted him. “I know. But you have to start trusting us more. Especially since we have Eve. We need to work as a team with her. It means trust. Right?” Eddie nodded as they started to walk again.
They arrived at the commercial section and started to look for a electrical part dealer. They knew there was one on all space stations, but they were the legal ones. Now, finding one that wasn't so strict about registering the sale to the legal systems was another thing. And as sure as there was a legal dealer, there was always one of the later too—especially on a space station this big. Luckily Eddie knew all the tricks to find one. He'd been doing the crazy scientist stuff by himself for a decade and it had taught him more than any schooling ever. And ever since giving birth to Eve he'd ascended to a whole new level. Except that while he was the one who could control her, he himself sucked at shootings and booby trappings and making safe spaces on an enemy ground – stuff he should've known how to handle. But he was a scientist, not a marine. That's why he had Billy and Steve. They had gotten a bit over halfway of the commercial section when an alert started sounding from all the speakers around the area with the pleasant voice of Mother: “This is not a drill. Containment breached. Please proceed to the closest escape pod.” Steve and Eddie looked at each other. Eddie frowned. “A breach that's severe enough for us to escape the station? This station has parted structure, right?” he asked Steve. “Yeah. That doesn't sound right. They should be able to seal just the breached part.” The alert sounded again. “This is not a drill. Containment breached. Please proceed to the closest escape pod.” Steve's brows knitted together. Then he glanced at Eddie, worried. “This is also a research station. New fuel solutions.” He paused. “And weapons.” Eddie bit his lip. “Could they have...” “Fuck. Anything is possible.” Eddie looked at Steve for a while before speaking, “You've seen this before, haven't you?” Steve sighed. “I hope not. On the last station like this—part military, part research, part commercial—the bastards were all over. The shit had already hit the fan.” “This is not a drill. Containment breached. Please proceed to the closest escape pod.” “Should we get going then?” Eddie asked and started to run back towards the dock where they'd docked Petrini.
-oOo-
After Eddie and Steve left to find the parts Eddie needed, Billy spent the first hour dozing off on the pilot's seat and listening to the radio chatter of the space station - illegally, of course. When the chatter suddenly became irregular, accompanied by calls for help that stopped in the middle of the call, Billy perked up. Icy coldness spread into his stomach and he hailed his companions through their scrambled team radios. "Eddie, Steve, please come in." No reply, only radio static that crackled a little from time to time. "Eddie? Steve? Please come in. It's Billy." Still nothing. Shit, Billy thought, this is bad. He turned the space station radio frequency back on. It was still all screams and irregular calls for help. He squeezed his eyes closed. "This isn't happening", he groaned. "This ain't fucking happening". He once more tried to hail Eddie and Steve on their private radio. He listened to the radio static for a while, when he recognized a familiar set of clicks. Three short ones, three long ones, three short ones. His stomach dropped. Eddie and Steve were in trouble. And since they used morse code, they most likely were hiding and couldn't speak. He'd seen this before. Only, he'd been the first one to come to the scene when the shit had already hit the fan and the results were running rampant. Though this probably wasn't far from that situation. They were here probably just a few days earlier than back then on that other station. He took a deep breath. He would have to find them.
Then a realization dawned on Billy. He buried his face in his hands and cursed. “Ffffffffffuck.” The only way he’d have any chance of finding Eddie and Steve quickly was to take Eve out for a walk.
