Excuse me- Shackled SEQUEL?! GIVE MEEE
🫡
shackled sequel my beloved!!! There’s definitely going to be a lot more whump and angst, and maybe just a bit of comfort :)
I cast opening snippet upon ye!
The old clone was staring up at him. CT-7567, colloquially known as Rex to his peers and superiors. He had fought under Anakin Skywalker, then later Ahsoka Tano, and for a brief while, fell under the command of one Pong Krell, a corrupt Jedi that had infiltrated the religious order’s ranks in the heat of war. The reports given from the campaign upon Umbara were fascinating, if he did say so himself.
One quick search into the Holonet’s backlogs had told Thrawn all this information, and practical experience told him more. He knew that the clones were fiercely individualistic, he knew that at one point in history, they had been almost rabidly loyal to their Jedi. He also knew that upon the execution of Order 66, the clones had been told that their beloved Jedi had betrayed their republic, and that they were to be killed on sight. It had happened in the sands of Utapau, among the exotic flora of Felucia, in the snow on Kaller, and it had happened in the skies of the Bracca system, on a ship called the Albedo Brave. All of this, just from a quick search, and a keen mind.
Chaos reigned around Rex, CT-7567. Voices layered one on top of the other, a green lightsaber flashed in the small cell, and yet still, the clone looked upwards at the camera, eyes wide and layered with shock and anger. By all accounts, Cal Kestis should be terrified of the clones, and conversely, CT-7567 should hate him for his actions while he was still aligned with the Empire. Yet, a stony type of rage glinted in the old clone’s brown eyes like flint against steel. Thrawn found the whole dichotomy utterly captivating.
The purple blur streaking past Rex was surely Garazeb Orrelios, and the Lasat was just one more piece of the puzzle that made up Cal Kestis. The way the former guardsman scooped up his trembling friend could hardly be read as platonic, nor the Lasat resting his forehead on Cal Kestis’ furrowed brow, murmuring soft words that were lost amongst Sabine Wren calling for a frantic pickup.
Captivating indeed.
Thrawn broke his gaze from the monitor for a moment to study the gloves folded in his hands. Warmth still leached from the old, weathered leather. Chiss naturally ran colder than other humanoids, their bodies instead pulling heat from the objects around them. If Thrawn concentrated, he could feel the ghostly warmth left from Cal Kestis’ freckled hands seep deeply into his.
With a satisfied nod, Thrawn clicked the monitor off, closing the curtains on the vignette, pocketing the gloves to savor what warmth was still left on them. He had not been in possession of neither the time nor the resources to monitor Cal Kestis’ heart rate or brainwaves; thus, his experiment could not be considered a complete success. Nevertheless, he was certain that this would not be his last opportunity to test the limits of his traitorous Jedi’s abilities.

Possibly unpopular opinion: I think The Clone Wars missed a great opportunity by making Pong Krell evil.
Don’t get me wrong; I hate the man with an absolute, burning passion. He was a bastard, an asshole, the worst Jedi ever. But then in the end it’s revealed that’s because he isn’t, not anymore, he has willingly and openly fallen to the Dark Side and has committed his war crimes in hopes of getting Dooku’s attention. Which is a valid and interesting storyline, I guess.
But what if he hadn’t? What if he had remained a devoted Jedi?
Tumblr media
One thing TCW tries to show occasionally is that even on the bad side not all people are actually bad — e.g. Mina Bonteri —, and similarly they try to show that on the good side not all people are good — e.g. Slick or Barriss. But they always stop shy of actually making that point; in the end, Mina’s son Lux decides to join the Republic, Slick was not just a defector but a traitor, and Barriss loses all humanity (Mirilianity?) betraying her own friend. In the end, the show keeps being about good and evil, and the Republic is good while the Separatists are evil. This becomes painfully obvious with systems that wish to remain neutral; in multiple instances they are eventually persuaded to aid or join the Republic, which is then framed as a good and honourable thing to do. As if choosing to stay out of a conflict they have no stakes in wasn’t.
Of course I have to make the comparison with Avatar: The Last Airbender, which very similarly has a good and a bad side of a conflict. But there we do get to see the opposite in both sides: the good side has people like Jet and the Earth Kingdom thugs, people who lose all humanity in their quest for vengeance or who abuse the situation for their own gain, while the bad side has people like the Fire Nation kids and Zuko and Iroh: people who have been drilled into supporting the system and don’t know any better, or who figured out that their side was in the wrong and decided to work against it for their own people as much as for the other side.
Tumblr media
And I think Pong Krell could have been a great example of that. A great example of a Jedi who has lost sight of all things a Jedi should be; whose arrogance and racism (sort of; I don’t have a better word for it rip) actively undermines all we as an audience believe the Republic should stand for. By having him change sides, that conflict is reduced to a good/bad one, when it could be so much more.
Because imagine the consequences if he hadn’t done what he did because he wanted to join the Sith. Rex and the others had not just moral but legal backing in arresting him because he betrayed the Republic, and same with Dogma shooting him. But what if they hadn’t? What if Rex would have to choose between loyalty to the cause he was bred for and the General that stands for it, or loyalty to his men and therefore against the General? Would he have been able to make the arrest? Clones are meant to be expendable, after all, and while Krell’s actions are nothing but cruel disregard of his pawns, they weren’t necessarily illegal. It was more the contrast with the other Jedi generals who had developed a bond with their clones that made Krell’s behaviour jarring.
The Umbara arc is one of my favourite arcs because of the spotlight on the clones and their morality, and I think this would have made it even better (or worse, in terms of how my heart could have taken it)

Why Sev didn't die.
Ok folks so I'm kinda new to tumblr and all that and I've been neglecting my original purpose for coming here which was to rant about Republic Commando since I wanna show a friend that memorizing the numbers of about twenty clones actually is useful.
lemme time myself rq for the MCs
Omega:
RC-1309 Niner
RC-1136 Darman
RC-8015 Fi
RC-3222 Atin
Delta:
RC-1138 Boss
RC-1140 Fixer
RC-1207 - Sev
RC-1262 Scorch
Took me approximately 33 seconds to type.
A n y w a y
yes so i was reading a fic on ao3 about an alternate version of post RC Order 66 when obi-wan goes to Mandalore with Luke instead of Tatooine and happens to know kal bc he let Kal let Mereel murder Pong Krell. and that fic became a twenty part series iirc. anyway so the story goes that Sev was captured by Trandoshans (logical, since Trandoshans were working with the seppies on kashyyyk) and brought to Wasskah like Ahsoka (remember, tcw fans?)
couple chapters full of action, they release him into the wild to hunt him down, and he fakes his death and stuff, and then Vau and obiwan go and rescue him.
BUT ANYWAY
it's very logical right? i mean Sev being who he is and all
and the trandos being essentially the same as they were in tcw
it'd make sense right?
and i felt i needed to say this just bc i love delta's introvertedness (but omega are my boys) and i hate leaving Sev behind. DELTA WOULD NOT HAVE LEFT HIM BEHIND. that's the one thing i disagree with karen traviss on (also etain and camas and not showing Levet or the rest of the Nulls with Jaina and not writing another book but whatevs)

TCW for the fandom ask game :)))
Oooo! This is such a good show!
Thank you so much for the ask!!
The first character I first fell in love with: I would have to say Obi-Wan. I always liked him the best in the prequels because of his sass and oldest sibling vibe. (If you've read my other responses to these fandom asks, you'll see that sass is a staple of all my favorite characters.) But I also love Rex, Fives, Echo, and Tech.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: That would be one Captain/Commander Rex!
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I mean, I guess Yoda? His episodes were always a little boring to me. I like Yoda, he's just not my fav.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Oh goodness. I guess early Ahsoka? She's really not that bad for a child being thrown into a war with Anakin "Disaster" Skywalker as a master.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: OK, so, like, Prequel Kaninoans, didn't care. Didn't love, didn't hate. Now that I've realized that clones are the coolest ever, the Kaminoans are kind of the worst!
The character I would totally smooch (or hug): All the clones deserve a hug.
The character I’d want to be like: Rex! He's resilient and caring. He'd do anything for his friends.
The character I’d slap: Pong Krell, of course! But also Rush Clovis. He was annoying.
A pairing that I love: Padme and Ankain are cute, but I also liked Obi-Wan and Satine's forbidden love thing.
A pairing that I despise: I am not a fan of the Rex and Ahsoka ship. Sorry!
There is so much to TCW and so many characters, I know I'm leaving out important people!
Thank you again for the ask!

I’ve finally reached season 7 of the clone wars. it’s been an awesome ride! here are my thoughts as a first time watcher of all things prequel-era. after this, I’ll watch revenge of the sith (yes, for the first time. yes i live under a rock. no there is no room for anyone else. find your own.) and Star Wars rebels, and I’ll have finally watched all of the main Star Wars stuff!
Ahsoka’s walkabout arc
-i love the martez sisters. i have an older sister myself, and while our dynamic is pretty different, they didn’t do too bad at capturing the feel of sister duos.
-español subtitles, my beloved. it is so good to have you back in my arms after being without you for season 6. I missed you more than you will ever know. you may not be a perfect translation of the audio, but i love you flaws and all
-I’m definitely skewed from coming to this straight after crystal crisis on Utapau, but the animation is really improved. Rafa’s hair actually moves and people’s lips move more naturally.
-I’m glad that ahsoka left that tube top behind. i hated how impractical her clothes looked in the early seasons
-I’ve reblogged a post about this a bit ago, but i wanted to say this myself. the way the jedi have taken the reputation hit for the senate is interesting to see from the perspective of your average citizen of coruscant. To trace, the war is just life getting harder for her and her sister. she wants to escape to the stars— but that’s where the fighting is happening. and the burden of blame shouldn’t fall so heavily upon the jedi. the Jedi order and it’s principles are themselves victims of the war.
-seeing Bo katan make an appearance was surprising, but ig she had to come back in eventually
-ahsoka’s plan in the final episode was so satisfying to watch. usually saying one thing to an enemy and another to a friend dialogue is super obvious, but it was done well here imo
-how could maul almost see her through the hologram? usually you only see other people, not their surroundings on the other end
-it’s really unlikely, but perhaps leaving her bike with them means the martez sisters will make another appearance. star wars loves cameos, i think it’s reasonable for me to hold out hope
The bad batch story reels
-I’m fond of the design of Anaxes. crunchy, crunchy glass. and a sky so pretty it was hard to focus on the dogfighting
-the way the bad batch pointedly makes fun of “regs” is interesting to me. it isn’t super mean spirited, but it’s biting and frequent enough to make me wonder how clones are perceived by civilians, and how they see themselves. from the clone bar on coruscant, we know there’s some, though admittedly little (because wartime) interaction with civilians who aren’t inhabiting the planets they fight on. you know philosophers in the gffa would be having a field day with the ethics of cloning soldiers. see, there’s some things in this universe you have to write off because of context— like the padawans technically being child soldiers. we can write that off because it’s a show that includes children in its target audience, and kids deserve to see themselves going on adventures. but this isn’t the case with clones. pong krell, for one. the famous “we’re clones sir, we’re meant to be expendable” among other lines, make it clear the essential humanity (lack of a better word) of the clones is in question by the inhabitants of the in-universe. in a roundabout way, I’m suggesting it’s possible the bad batch’s jabs at “regs” come from a place insecurity about their own individuality as much as it does a reaction to being shunned for not fitting in with their brothers. since they’re mutated, different, they have biological proximity to naturally born people. they’re similar to their progenitor, jango fett, but very distinct in personality and appearance, like how I’m similar and distinct from my parents.
-man, i don’t get why people rag on mace windu so much. he’s a generally good dude and a cool character. he’s firmly lawful good, which can be boring when it’s played wrong. windu is not played wrong. his character works, and i like the episodes where he’s gotten more screen time, and this is one of them.
-no disrespect if you like them, but i am. not sold on the bad batch. maybe things are different in the bad batch show, but here, they don’t feel like complete characters. like, this is a fine foundation for a four (five after echo joins) man band, but you’ve got to put those guys back in the oven they aren’t done yet. as I’ve rambled about above, I’m not averse to the concept of mutated clones because there’s some really neat potential to explore how clones and non-clones view one another and each other. the 100% success rate thing is pretty corny even for Star Wars, but i also don’t think tbb undermines the regular clones individualities, provided there’s some follow up on that how-does-clone-prejudice-work thing. what i am averse to is changing their facial features (mainly tech, but also crosshair) to be more typically white, like thinner noses, in an attempt to make them more visually distinct. the other aspects of their designs, physical and character-wise, make them plenty distinct. let them look like Morrison dammit! this is why I’m probably not going to watch tbb show. it was hard enough to sit through a four episode arc with them, i don’t think i can make it through a whole season.
-oo, foreshadowing anakin’s fall to the dark side when he kills trench. i love a good tragedy
-obi wan definitely knows padme and anakin are boning, right? who doesn’t know that they’re a couple at this point, honestly. and the ones who don’t should be able to figure it out pretty quick when padme’s pregnant and the father is ~unknown~ cmon.
Siege of Mandalore arc
-man hang on a minute. i need a minute alright
-i see potential for a short that follows what bo-katan and ahsoka have gotten up to in between oba dias and the siege. they’ve clearly gotten to know each other a little, and while it makes sense that we don’t waste any time on their relationship, it could be cool to see how their partnership developed. would also have the benefit of filling out how Bo-katan has progressed as a character.
-maul is so obsessed with obi wan and kenobi just.. doesn’t care all that much about his arch nemesis. yeah I killed him once, it didn’t stick. have fun fighting him ahsoka!
-you really don’t notice how much a character has grown on you until you realize you care about them deeply even when they have plot armor huh? yeah, ahsoka and rex have entrenched themselves in my heart.
-now, I only know revenge of the sith from cultural osmosis, but that’s enough to not only understand what’s going on off screen at the same time, but to effectively be in darth maul’s place. everything is falling to pieces and nobody but you can see it yet. the jedi, the republic, the separatists, all of it
-this arc got allll the crunchy visual effects. breaking glass, embers, smoke, the works. wish they didn’t make maul’s lightsaber bizarrely skinny
-I especially loved maul and ahsoka together in this. they parallel each other in a way that I hasn’t noticed before, how they’re both apprentices who failed (from a certain pov) in a way that saved themselves
-maul’s dialogue and voice acting is mwah mwah. he’s gentlemanly without being aristocratic, or becoming a cliche mob boss kind of character
-katee sackoff is truly perfect as bo katan, and I’m not just saying that because I had a crush on Starbuck in battlestar galactica. i cant imagine a better (voice) actress for the role
-hello, ursa wren. how have you been holding up among the hordes of aggressively blond blue eyed whites? there surely must be better ways to add Viking influence that aren’t making the mandalorians look like Swedish racists
-ahsoka technically isn’t a jedi, but in this arc it’s really obvious that she had the skill to be a jedi knight. she would’ve become one if she hadn’t left the order. her skill at adapting under high pressure and at combat (she’s a match for maul himself!) don’t let you forget that she is well past being at padawan level
-i’m sure i violated so many viewing guides by watching this before revenge of the sith but it worked out fine, so •_•
-the painted helmets….
-hey, hey. don’t cry. Fives saved rex and ahsoka, okay? think about that. his death wasn’t a complete waste in the end at least
-I’m looking forward to seeing what rex gets up to after this. i know he shows up in rebels, ahsoka too, which will also be interesting to watch

9. A thing I'm proud of creating for fandom.
PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF. I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART:
All of my fanfiction. No smut, but there's plenty of domestic fluff and angst!
I drew some stick figure clones too, but we don't have to talk about my poor artistic skills.
Also, my clone OCs from Phoenix Squad! I love my little babies: Tungst, Brett, Drip, Gloss, Rift, and Chance 🧡
10. A character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing):
Rex. There is nothing wrong with that man.
11. The character I relate to the most and why:
Probably Kix, because I also have a no-nonsense attitude and think I'm gorgeous 🤣

tag game: (star wars)
ayy thank you for the tag @insertmeaningfulusername :D
1.ride or die ship (your otp): dinluke ofc
2. most annoying ship: i have a few on the annoying list but i won’t mention it here, don’t wanna ruffle any feathers.
3. second favourite ship: hanleia
4. favourite platonic relationship: din and the nevarro gang
5. underrated ship: reyrose tbh
6. overrated ship: ..... never mind
7. one thing i would change in canon: the entire s3 of the mandalorian except for the part where din acquires R5. filoni’s gotta calm down with making and putting his blorbos in everything (it gets tiring when a character has too much going on).
8. something canon did right: making luke and leia twins. luke training grogu. din acquiring the darksaber and the N-1 starfighter. han surviving the carbonite (instead of harrison’s original plan to have han die in esb). the “parade theme” at the end of the phantom menace is similar to the “emperor’s theme” from the original trilogy.
9. a thing i'm proud of creating for the fandom PLEASE BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF I WANT TO SEE/READ YOUR ART: i make some silly incorrect things and personal favorites are this, this, this, this and this
(the last one didn’t get much attention but i had a lot of fun imagining a whole scenario with the four of them including chewie lol)
10. a character who is perfect to me (wouldn't change a thing): original trilogy and mandalorian s2 luke, mandalorian s1-2 din, original trilogy leia and han.
11. the character i relate to the most and why: din and luke, very much
12. character(-s i hate the most and why: (i agree with you, Step) it’s Pong Krell for me too
13. something i've learned from the fandom: the fandom is huge and it’s easy to get lost and overwhelmed. find something you like about the story, then find likeminded friends and simply hangout with your small circle.
14. three tags i seek out on a03: canon-divergence, fix-it, happy ending
15. a song i strongly associate with my otp/ favourite character: i need you guys to trust me on this but just imagine all of your favorite star wars characters dancing to “get lucky”. instant serotonin

Butterfly Squad Book 1: Dagny Chapter 1
(this is about my star wars clone ocs)
Even here, while there was a battle, Dagny was calm.
But never when he noticed the debris of destroyed ships, or thought about his general Pong Krell that he blamed for all of this in the first place. Why did he get put with Krell if Dagny and him were opposites? Why did any of his brothers even end up here? Because they're heartless and cooperate with acts of violence?
Why are his brothers nothing like him? Dagny still couldn't bring himself to hate his brothers, even though they could use a blaster without feeling as guilty as Dagny did, because of the injuries those things could do to someone. Dagny tried his best to be obedient, even though his heart couldn't let him most of the time. The only one of his brothers he actually loved was Tanger, who his friend Korts determined that Dagny was Tangers "indentured servant" it's better than a soldier that's for sure, why was dagny of all people meant to fight in a war? Dagnys own life made him want to scream. When Dagny wanted a break for 10 minutes, he wasn't fighting and actually felt real. He probably wasn't even a soldier, but instead of being violent, he was more of a public speaker, like a senator, but first Dagny needed to get people to listen to clones as his first mission. His brothers were around him, why were they so much braver? Maybe Dagny could help pack crates of resources to other planets instead of fight? But Dagny was with his brothers and Korts was recently put on life support, and Checkereye...well...
Dagny: hey, is everyone okay here?
Korts was definitely still alive, but who should everyone blame, dagny definitely didn't do it.
Dagny: hey...shatter
Shatter: what's.... up? I'm freaked out...
Shatter looked scared and confused at everything, I mean, everyone felt that.
Shatter: AAA!
He looked like he couldn't walk, but Dagny wasn't strong enough to lift him and get him to the med bay, checkereye wasn't either. The ship blew up so they will probably be stuck in this stupid place for a while, checkereye coughed, because of it, well he actually coughed like a rabbit, but that's not the point, they all couldn't breathe very well.
But they can't just leave Shatter here, maybe Davian or Tanger could go get him? Dagny went to dump some water from the lake on it, checkereye went to go drink some.
Checkereye: This water is the bee's knees!!!
This battle was better than most of the ones they had been forced into, or maybe they're all just used to it by now
Dagny: shatter I'm trying to help you... I guess I'll just leave you here until someone else comes, I can't really lift you, I'm so sorry. Maybe you can try to take a nap over here if your tired, just don't accidentally die please...
Then another clone said
Tanger: Daaaaggggnnnnyyyy??!!
Tanger: Hey!
Tanger!!!
Dagny got up
Dagny: Tanger??!!
Tanger: let's get out of here! Come with me!
Dagny: maybe you can help that guy over there?
Tanger carried shatter and put him on a clone ambulance bed,
Tanger: so which one of you droids did this?
Dagny: I love how you only like to fight the droids that did something to your brothers!
Tanger and Dagny both had a spiritual power that made them not the best soldiers...
Dagny: i really wish I could help my brothers like you did too...
Tanger: we need to go to the med bay but...you already kind of do
Dagny: What?? We are equals?? Korts lied??
Dagny was embarrassed at sounding like an idiot, all of dagnys other brothers were obedient, but Dagny was obedient to his brother Tanger, who was different from all the other clones, which he could always tell.
Tanger: nobody's perfect, but korts said no concept is perfect either, so being a soldier is never perfect for one person.
Dagny was still a soldier but not in a "good soldiers follow orders" way, but in a "what you did wasn't fair, so my only choice is to fight back" kind of soldier, the kind of soldier that's mad at the current state in the world and have no other options to help it rather than give them the same energy back, dagny finally knew why he was made into a clone trooper.
So they went to the medbay...none of shatters main organs were hit.

Clone Wars for the ask game
Ooh, tough. (Most of these have more than one answer, and these are off the top of my head. There are also a few repeats and Bad Batch characters 😅)
Favorite male character: Saw Gerrera, Rex, Tech, Howzer, & Fives
Favorite female character: Ahsoka, Ventress, & Steela Gerrera
Least favorite character: Ziro the Hutt, Pong Krell (that's no surprise), Admiral Trench, Wat Tambor, Tarkin, Rampart (RIP Tipoca City)
Prettiest character: Howzer, Maul & Savage (there's just something about Zabraks- and it's not Talzin's magic),
Funniest character: Hardcase, Fives, Trace & Rafa (I know people hate them, but I honestly find them quite entertaining)
Favorite season: Four & Seven
Favorite episode: S3E1: Clone Cadets, "Rako Hardeen" Arc, Umbara Arc, Maul Return Arc, S6 Bio-Chip Conspiracy Arc, S7 Order 66 Arc (...a lot?)
Favorite romantic ship: Satine & Obi-Wan (I literally can't remember the other ships aside from Anakin/Padme and Ahsoka/Lux)
Favorite family ship: Echo & Fives (all of Domino Squad, really), and Saw & Steela Gerrera
Favorite friend ship: Anakin, Ahsoka, & Obi-Wan (honorable mention: Ahsoka & the Gerrera siblings)
Worst ship: Honestly, I don't have any specific ones, just not a fan of Jedi Master/Padawan ships or clones being shipped with one another. (They call each other brothers, come on).

Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark- Book Review
Tumblr media
“Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark” Is an anthology of stories narrating some of the arcs of the clone wars from the perspective of the characters. It gives more details and depth to some episodes, as well as giving us information that makes us have a different view of the events.
This is not exactly a review, but mostly my reactions to reading the book. I do recommend it, if you loved the clone wars and want another perspective on some of the arcs this will be a good read. That said, this does contain spoilers for the clone wars.
#1 “Sharing the same Face” -Jason Fry (from the episode “Ambush”)
Okay this was once one of the most light-hearted episodes of the series and now I ended up crying. I did not expect an order 66 reference here. Every time Yoda addresses Dooku is painful. Seeing how Yoda perceives the clones is really heart-warming, but knowing how it all turns out in the end is really sad and during the whole text you are really aware of that. In the show you kind of forget about what’s going to happen for a while, but this text just keeps you thinking about it constantly. It was a good read, I loved it. I found it really interesting knowing Yoda approaches the clones the same way he approached his students at the temple, and knowing what his opinions on the clone army it was a good detail. Loved this one.
Did I care that much about this episode before? No. But watching it right after reading this made me cry for half an hour. (I am a really emotional person, so take this with a grain of salt.)
#2 “Dooku Captured”- Lou Anders (From the episodes “Dooku Captured” and “Gungan General”.
This was a funny read, and the fact that the events are narrated by Dooku Himself made it even more hilarious. It’s supposedly a holorecording Dooku was doing for Sidious, and you can tell by his words that he was so done. Poor Dooku deserves a meditation day after it. You can tell how annoyed he was by the whole situation and his perception of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi. They really are bothering for the count. I’m surprised he didn’t retire after this event, man’s gotta be really tired. Also, when they were tied together, they just shared a braincell and most of the time, Dooku was the one carrying it. The love he had for Qui-Gon does not extend to rest of the lineage, clearly.
At first it was really slow, but after they get captured by the pirates it just gets funnier. Good story to read after the sadness the previous text gave me.
Also, the fact that Dooku canonically records himself venting to Sidious is hilarious to me. Like, can you imagine being Palpatine and receiving daily vlogs from your apprentice ranting and complaining about Anakin and Obi-Wan? Dude was tired, of course he would let Anakin decapitate him in the end.
#3 “Hostage Crisis”- Preeti Chhibber (from the episode “Hostage Crisis”)
For an Anidala shipper this is a must read, because you will know exactly what Anakin thinks of his wife and how he views Padmé. This text was more Anakin centric (I believe the next one is Padmé centric) and it was a delight. I haven’t read much in canon about stuff that involves Anakin’s feelings so this was really good.
The scene from the beginning of the episode? Is hotter when you read it, trust me. For a clearly SFW text, this was intense. I’m pretty sure I can guess all of Anakin’s kink only by what was implied in his thoughts. Is also really sweet to see how much she cares, but also know why everything went downhill at the end. Good retelling.
#4 “Pursuit of Peace”- Anne Ursu (from the episodes “Heroes on both sides” and “Pursuit of Peace”)
I really love Padmé Amidala. My favorite senator. If you have seen my review of Queen’s Peril you KNOW How much I love her, and even when this text was written by another author, I still got the same feeling about her. Padmé is amazing. This arc is one of my favorite of the Clone wars because it’s the arc that let you see that it wasn’t a black and white kind of situation, both sides were being played. An none of them were really worrying about their people, they were in it for the money. I love reading Padmé’s thoughts on the whole situation. Also, the way this story is written makes what went down with Padmé and Anakin in the third episode make more sense and more in character. She is a strong, good, and smart politician. But she is also motivated to see the light in the dark and preserve the light, it gave me major Qui-Gon from “Master and Apprentice” vibes. It did make me tear up a little, because when I finished it, I realized everything she did was for nothing. She was too kind in a galaxy already so corrupted.
Also, Palpatine stop calling her “my child” you disgusting sith lord, I know you are responsible for her death and so do you, so shut the f up. Padmé was doing everything right and she hasn’t done anything wrong in her life whatsoever.
“Just because there’s darkness in something does not mean you do not love it. You show it love, you show it light, and you hope it chooses the light”.
She was talking about the senate but you just KNOW she isn’t really talking about the senate.
This story re-telling broke me, just as the first one. I am not ready for the next one. Do I have to? Man, I really don’t want to go through Umbara again.
#5 “The Shadow of Umbara” -Yoon Ha Lee (from the episodes "Darkness on Umbara," "The General," "Plan of Dissent," and "Carnage of Krell”)
I was, indeed, not ready for it. It doesn’t really add much to the story… except pain. Rex’s pain, to be precise. Let my man mourn Hardcase :C I just wanted to give him a hug, him and all of the clones to be honest. Fives was as good as always, but re-reading his lines knowing what happens to him made me sad. I hate Pong Krell, get you dirty hands off my babies. I don’t think this re- telling made me sadder, but that’s only because it was just as painful as the episodes.
Dogma my beloved, you deserve everything.
I love how this arc develops Rex character and his attitude towards the war in general.
#6 “Bane’s Story”- Tom Angleberger (from the episodes “Deception”, “Friends and Enemies”, “The Box” and “Crisis on Naboo”.)
Is Cad Bane the Regina George of the Bounty Hunters?
The answer is yes. Yes, he is.
I wasn’t really excited to read about Cad Bane at first, I felt that everything that had to be said about the guy had already been stated in the show. He was just a mean bounty hunter in space. But this was actually pretty funny to read, specially because it’s narrated in first person from Bane’s perspective on what happened with Kenobi. And it’s hilarious.
He is basically re telling the events to Boba and Bossk while he is in jail again. During his story you can learn a few things about him as well, specially what his thoughts are in relation to some important topics. You would think he is only concerned about the money and blasting people, and you would be right. But he also does have an opinion on what’s happening on the galaxy at large, on the jedi, on Palpatine and Dooku. But those opinions don’t affect how he gets the job done. It was really interesting seeing him internally judging Kenobi for being a liar, and knowing something is wrong with the jedi order if they pulled that off. He knows everyone is being deceived, but doesn’t know how. That’s why he doesn’t care, and doesn’t get involved on anything unless you offer to pay him. Money moves him, but not the people who has it.
It was a good story, and I also liked to see how Bane respects Boba and sees him as the one that’s going to take his place eventually.
We know from the deleted episodes that Cad Bane was supposed to be killed by Boba Fett, but we haven’t seen that in canon yet. I really hope they answer what happened to Cad Bane in the current canon, I would love to see that in a comic, or in a book.
#7 “The lost nightsister”- Zoraida Cordova (from the episode “Bounty”)
I love Asajj Ventress for a million reasons and this story just made me love her even more. It’s the same story from the episodes but with an insight of what Ventress is thinking about. Which is unsurprisingly very depressing but the story itself turns out to be pretty uplifting.
It’s about her thoughts on what happened after the massacre of her sisters, her family, and how she deals with everything she had already lost. How lonely and worthless she feels. But during the course of the story, we see her reconnecting with who she is, and learning her value. Learning she is a powerful person, master or not.
It was also really sad to see how she compared herself to others. She was really sad and angry that nobody cared about what happened to her people, no one that cared about her. She saw how people wanted the girl in the box back and thought about how nobody would ever do the same for her and it was sad.
I also find very depressing that she couldn’t mourn her family.
But then she said this:
“What made her so special? What made her worth—No. She couldn’t think that way. This girl’s worth didn’t diminish her own. “
And like, I’m 100% rooting for her here.
Also, I love that once she realized the girl from the box was being smuggled to be essentially a child bride, she didn’t hesitate to scam the old creep. She may be an assassin, but during the course of this story you learn that she is disgusted by men who take advantage of female beings. I also love her internal monologue after the guy was bothering her in the cantina and how she just knows that if she can defend herself, she will do it with no hesitation.
Lovely story, I love knowing more about Ventress. Beautifully written.
#8"Dark Vengeance”-Rebecca Roanhorse (from the episodes "Brothers" and "Revenge")
It’s so on brand for Darth Maul to have his entire story be about Kenobi. It’s narrated by him, but directed towards you, like he is telling the reader a story. That in some stories could be like an awkward thing, but here it was well done. I love Maul and like, I could picture us having that conversation, well, me listening to him monologuing.
I really liked that he started telling the story from the events that happened on Naboo. You get to really see what happened from his perspective and understand why his hatred of Kenobi only grows over time.
Also, Darth Maul was like “I can excuse murder, but I draw the line at being rude”. Which is so morally wrong, but very fitting to his character. He is really upset at Kenobi for not caring about what happened to him. From what I gathered of the info that he let us know, he would probably like it more if Kenobi killed him instead of having to spend all those years in the garbage. Nobody cared for him enough to go and check up on what happened to him. That doesn’t excuse murder though.
The interactions he had with Kenobi let us know that it was not very jedi like the way he treated Maul, ignoring his rage and letting it consume him. Obi-wan just kept adding fuel to the fire because he was also really angry at Maul for the murder of Qui-Gon, not realizing that that would only make Maul be even angrier. And we know how that ended up for Satine Kenobi.
Final thoughts: Savage, I love you.
#9 "Almost a Jedi"-Sarah Beth Durst (from the episode "A Necessary Bond")
I thought this story was going to be from Ahsoka’s point of view. It was not.
I’m not mad at it though.
The story itself does focus on Ahsoka but it’s narrated by Katooni. It’s basically about how much she adores Ahsoka and wants to be like her, but also doubts herself a lot. She thinks she is not good enough to be a jedi. But her experiences both with Ahsoka and with Hondo Ohnaka makes her change her mind.
I want to say that I love the fact that it’s canon that she drew a poster of Ahsoka for her room because she really admired her that much it's so wholesome. It’s cute, and also let us see the perception the younglings had of Ahsoka.
Also, the bond between Hondo and Katooni is really wholesome. This also made me realize that this encounter with a young jedi is the reason he is immediately friendly with Ezra in Rebels. Ezra and Katooni do share similar personality traits sometimes.
Deep diving in Wookiepedia after reading this I found out that Hondo’s ship in Galaxy’s Edge is called “The Katooni” and now I’m sad thinking he was probably devastated when he learnt about Order 66 and what Vader did to the younglings. Great now I’m angsty about a chaotic evil space pirate.
I think it was confirmed by Dave Filoni that those kids are dead now. May the force be with them, they were good enough jedis.
#10 "Kenobi's Shadow"-Greg van Eekhout (from the episode "The Lawless”)
This is the re-telling of one of the saddest clone wars episodes. The episode just lets you think that everything’s going to be alright, that they are going to survive together, lets you hope that they take off just in time… and then it doesn’t happen. I’m still not over Satine’s death. And this made it even sadder. There were so many points their story could’ve gone differently, but their story was already at an end.
This is in third person but heavily focusing on Kenobi’s thoughts along the way. He really was close to turn to the dark side, but his love for Satine and his grief made him not surrender to it. But he felt an anger, a justified one, but an anger that I have never seen in a jedi other than Anakin Skywalker. And we all know what happens to him.
It was a good but sad reading. I won’t be reading this one again. It’s too much. I knew what was going to happen and it still hit me hard. I wish things would’ve gone differently for the both of them. I wonder if we will get flashbacks to this in the Kenobi show.
Also, I really need an Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine book of their time on the run.
#11 "Bug"-E. Anne Convery (inspired by the episode "Massacre”)
I can’t talk openly about this story because it’s not actually featured on the clone wars. It’s a really good story, specially if you want to expand on the lore regarding Dathomir and the Nightsister in the new canon. It’s perfectly executed, and even when the story isn’t about any of the main characters it hooked me from start to finish. Definitely one of my favorite stories of the book and If I had to pick one story from this anthology to read again it would be this one.
It has more gruesome details than the others and the atmosphere is dark, and I loved it. I would read a whole Dathomirian Nightsister novel written by this author if it was in this exact same style. I really liked it a lot.
In summary, I really enjoyed reading this Anthology. I would really recommend it to anyone who is fond of the Clone Wars or the prequels era. Adults, Kids, Teens, Young adults. I think I would’ve enjoyed this book as a kid as well, and I enjoyed it a lot now in my early twenties. It contains a little bit of everything and that makes it a really complete anthology.

Captain Rex x Healer!Reader (Sequel)
This story can stand on his own but also can be seen as a sequel to the first one. It’s about Rex and the Reader going through a ruff time in their relationship.
Things my therapist wouldn’t recommend: it’s depressing, mention of guilting yourself
Things my therapist recommends: therapy
Time seemed to pass more quickly in the past year. Missions happened, dangerous and not as dangerous once. Men fell and new came. It was as normal as it could get, but still, things happened that shock you up. And every time they became harder to take in. Until the incident that happened that you will never be able to forget.
It happened a few weeks ago when you finally couldn’t take it anymore. The mission that will never leave your mind. It was the most bloodiest, exhausting and overall scaring mission of them all… Umbara.
So many men have died. So many brothers have killed each other on the battlefield because of this monstrosity that was Pong Krell, who called himself a General and a Jedi. Even though it shouldn’t have been right you felt relieved and glad when Dogma executed him with a shot to the back, but it didn’t brought the fallen back to life and it couldn’t erase the memories the Clones now had in their heads from shooting the once they called brothers.
You tried to push your own guilt aside from not being able to save more and talk with those who had survived the living hell this mission was. Some took your help and the opportunity to talk about the events but most didn’t… Including Rex.
Whenever one of your talks even hinted in the direction of Umbara, or as you and Fives referred to ‘The topic who can not be named’, Rex would immediately shut of and stop talking. He would start starring of in the distance or down at the ground. His eyes would become more dull and he wouldn’t properly react anymore.
Nightmares after Umbara were more frequent for the both of you.
Nightmares before were splashed over weeks. Some weeks they would come more often and other weeks there would be none. But now they came every night and seemed to worsen from nightmare to nightmare. Screaming, silent tears and quiet comforts was now a routine. It was the new ‘normal’ now and you hated it to pieces. So you decided you needed to be alone.
Your request of a few weeks off of duty had been almost immediately approved. You packed the little stuff you had on the Resolute and went to your quarters in the Jedi Temple. In the beginning it was hard to settle down again. So long you had been away on missions that you started to forget how it looked. Finding sleep and peace without Rex by your side was as hard as you imagined but it became easier with time, or so you told yourself.
You found a therapist who you could talk to about your point of view in the battle of Umbara and you seemed to find yourself settling down again and finding the peace you had before. The inner peace you had missed so much. The quilt of the fallen hasn’t fully washed away from your mind and soul yet but slowly and step by step you are managing it.
“So (Y/N), how are you feeling today?” , the doctor sitting in front of you asked.
“I’m feeling alright and I slept through the night without a nightmare.”
It was true. Since your last meeting with him a few days ago the nightmares pretty much vanished. Of course you knew they could come back eventually you cherished this undisturbed sleep to its fullest.
“That is good to hear. Now is there something specific you want to talk about today?”
Rex.
“No, I just want to talk about what comes randomly to my mind.”
“Well that is fine with me…”
~~~~~
It has become harder and harder for Rex to stay sane in the past few weeks.
Since (Y/N) had requested some time off the Captain has become an absolute wreckage. He missed to have her by his side. Missed holding her in his arms during the nights. Missed hearing her voice bringing him back down to earth after a nightmare. It was horrible.
They talked over the coms when Rex hadn’t loads of things to attend to and (Y/N) wasn’t busy with therapy and meditating. But it just wasn’t the same as before. Rex realised now that he needed to have her by his side more than ever before. He finally had the feeling he could talk about what was troubling him and even if his brothers do understand him if he talked to them it just wouldn’t be the same. The Captain and his Healer are on a whole nother level of understandment.
Fives had enough of it. He had been talking to (Y/N) for the past weeks of her departure and kept her updated on how things are, how the others are doing and especially on how the Captain was truly doing. Fives had always been truthfully to a certain degree about the Captains status but he had to tell himself that it started to transform into lies and he wasn’t going to lie to one of his best friends anymore.
~~~~~
“It seemed that our time is over now. It was as always a pleasure to have you here and hopefully help you as much as I could.” , the doctor said with a smile at you.
“You helped me far more than I could hope for, doc, thank you.”
After a short goodbye you left the room feeling better than when you entered. Even thought in the beginning of the session you didn’t want to talk about what was going on between you and Rex you eventually opened up about it after a while and sure enough the doctor helped you sort out a way of approaching your boyfriend without him shutting you off again.
The way back to the temple and your quarters went uneventful and with some humming from your part. The door slid open and upon entering you were immediately grasped by the shoulders. Shock was written all over your face when you locked up at your attacker.
“Kriffin hell Fives! You scared me! Why are you here?” Your breath was slightly regged from his action but you were fine nonetheless but still confused about his presence.
“We need to talk about the Captain. It’s important.” , Fives spoke while dragging you over to your couch in the living area. You immediately perked up by that sentence. Not only because of Fives concerned expression and tone but because it was your Captain who didn’t seem to be alright.
~~~~~~
The barracks slowly became quieter the later it got. Men finished dinner and their last training sessions. Shinies finished their jobs and all went to sleep but still a few roamed around the grounds, including Rex. It was one of those nights were it was harder for him to find sleep he so desperately needed. It was obvious that he didn’t sleep anymore and when he did it was only for a few hours but he still pushed through with caf and some pills Kix gave him.
As Rex made his way through an empty hallway, devoured in his thoughts, it took him a while to register that someone was calling his name. Waking up from the trans he was in he turned around to see her running towards him. Her. His Angel.
She didn’t stop in front of him but instead threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. Oh god how he missed it. His arms wrapped around her mid and pulled her flush against him. Rex took in the familiar scent of his beloved and he let out a sigh of content.
“Cyar’ika, I missed you so much.” His voice was softer than it ever was before and it was filled with so much love and affection that your knees went weak.
“Oh Rex, I missed you too! So unbelievably much!” You detached from him only as much as you needed so you could look him in the eyes. Both of your eyes filled with tears. A fond smile was on his lips and you couldn’t hold back anymore and kissed him.
It wasn’t like you two were separated for months. It’s been only a few weeks but these few weeks now made a difference in your relationship. That night you talked. Really talked about what was troubling you both and Rex finally told you how he truly felt about the events that occurred over the past three months. After that night all your troubles and fears about what happened and what is yet to come washed away and for the first time you both were fully at peace again. Content in each others arms.
so we all know fatima’s (@simping-for-fives) crack ships, yes? well my best friend, bless her, recently started reading fanfic again. (we both settled into fandoms we weren’t necessarily a part of growing up, but now it’s full force bc of quarantine. her’s is harry potter. mine is star wars. yes, this is relevant.)
anyway! we were facetiming and talking about the fics we’ve read when i brought up the crack ships of wolffe x c-3po and pong krell x chancellor palpatine. mind you, she knows very little about star wars. yet still, she commented and bantered with me about these lovely fics. here are some of my—albeit badly paraphrased—favorite quotes:
how did that—? did wolffe *severus snape voice* slip into his usb port?
maybe he has a vacuum function??
what if c-3po vacuumed hard enough to lift wolffe up? like a chair? (side note: my handwriting is hard to read. basically, what if wolffe, while in c-3po, was picked up solely by the vacuum, onto c-3po’s back)
(after explaining the pong krell x palps one, which i couldn’t get through because of the title, “are you lost babygorl?”) oh! so like in 365 days! wait [my name] why are you laughing? (i explain to her that i thought it was from despicable me, and thus could only read it in gru’s voice) [MY NAME] WHY!
(she doesn’t know star wars, and i’m bad at descriptions, so she just looked up “pong krell”) oh my god, that’s him?!
*laughing* ok but the fact that palps is a SUB? walking in there like “what those hands do—cough—four hands do?”
you know what, this is the defining moment. this is the defining moment for the human race because that one dude—what’s his face—had two dicks.
the conversation then led back to harry potter, so here are some hp/hp& sw crossover quotes-
trump and voldemort have opposite appearances (side note: i was not prepared to have this information divulged to me at midnight)
me, comparing trump & voldy’s posture: if there’s anything voldemort has contributed to the wizarding world, it would be a perfect example of good posture.
*very excitedly* ok but what if severus *snape voice* slipped into c-3po while krell *snape voice* slipped into severus and THEN krell could slip his longer appendage into himself!
me: i hate how you use the word appendage.
her, continuing: oh sorry, his bratwurst—
in conclusion i love my friend but we enable each other in the best worst way. we are ~cursed~ (and i wouldn't want it any other way).
