#and his relationship with Magneto too
Text
Honestly Magneto was using the X-Men just to get to Shaw. He didn’t really believe in the mission and he agreed on the idea of the war, just not the leader who would start the war.
And Charles knew it too...or at least part of it. He knew Erik wanted to kill Shaw for revenge over what happened to his mother and was using the X-Men to achieve that goal
What he didn’t know was that Magneto agreed with Shaw’s views. That’s the heartbreaking part.
I guess Charles wasn’t all that good at reading Erik’s mind as he thought he was...

Some contrasts between the dance scenes in episode 1 and 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Firstly, I just thought the dancing that Rogue was watching in the first episode was a little similar to the one her and Erik were doing. Showing that she got what she was looking for but it wasn’t what she thought it was going to be like
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next just simply the kissing between the same people. Rogue was just doing exactly what she dreamed to do
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at both parts the guy tightens his hand around Rogue but with Remy she went in to hold his hand and he tightened his around hers but with Erik she pulled her hand away but he caught it and tightened his hand around. AGAHAGG this shows so much about Rogues emotions and feelings after the dance. She got everything she wanted, everything she had been wishing for but she wasn’t even happy because she wasn’t doing it with someone she loves. Plus how they hold Rogue’s hand shows the relationship between them. Remy is letting her in but isn’t forcing anything and will let her go if she wants to go. While with Erik she tries to pull away and he is almost desperate to keep her near and isn’t ready to accept her leaving even if he has to be a little forceful. Also I don’t care what anyone says there is a lot of manipulation in Magneto and Rogues relationship, first, in their first meeting he was literally manipulating Rogue along with Mystique and second, him going on about how them marrying will be for the “better of Genosha” is a little too forceful and manipulative for me like stop putting all that pressure on my girl, she don’t want you. TOO BAD THEY BOTH MIGHT BE DEAD 💀

X-MEN 97 Episode 1 and 2 SPOILERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My thoughts
GOSH the character designs and everyone is so hot and have beautiful hair ❤️❤️❤️
The animators love Logan's barechest 👀
Really enjoyed the animation especially during the action scenes and I love the tag team and power combos for each X-Man.
I hope to see more Morph and his friendship with Logan bcs their scenes r playful especially the end of episode 2 when Morph transforms to Sabertooth and they playfully spar with each other.
I wish that Logan is not too hung up on Jean. The Logan, Scott, Jean love triangle was meh and it's not my cup of tea. I want Logan and Scott to just become friends. And Logan being an uncle to Scott and Jean's son.
The hint of Cherik 👀❤️on episode 2 and that picture
Idk what's going on with Magneto and Rogue. I saw online that in the comics they were in a relationship which is yikes. Here I am wishing that the hand scene with Magneto and Rogue is more of father and daughter relationship. Gambit x Rogue is endgame and no one should interfere with them. I want Gambit to be happy
The cliffhanger on episode 2 😲
The end credits. I wonder if that is foreshadowing for future episodes. Bcs I think the end credits ends without the cursor opening Wolverine, Magneto, and Rogue.
For future episodes that I look foward, I wish Ororo 😭 comes back, more character centric episodes or silly episodic with characters such as Morph, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler. Also, episodes focusing on character relationships.
Anyway thank you so much for reading my thoughts and rants because I don't have anyone to talk about it.

What did you think of X-Men Blue Origins?
(I may turn this into a People's History of the Marvel Universe later today, so keep an eye on this space.)
X-Men Blue: Origins and the Power of the Additive Retcon
Tumblr media
(WARNING: heavy spoilers under the cut)
Introduction
If you've been a long-time X-Men reader, or you're a listener of Jay & Miles or Cerebrocast or any number of other LGBT+ X-Men podcasts, you probably know the story about how Chris Claremont wrote Mystique and Destiny as a lesbian couple, but had to use obscure verbiage and subtextual coding to get past Jim Shooter's blanket ban on LGBT+ characters in the Marvel Universe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Likewise, you're probably also familiar with the story that, when Chris Claremont came up with the idea that Raven Darkholme and Kurt Wagner were related (a plot point set up all the way back in Uncanny X-Men #142), he intended that Mystique was Nightcrawler's father, having used her shapeshifting powers to take on a male body and impregnate (her one true love) Irene. This would have moved far beyond subtext - but it proved to be a bridge too far for Marvel editorial, and Claremont was never able to get it past S&P.
Tumblr media
This lacuna in the backstories of Kurt and Raven - who was Kurt's father? - would remain one of the enduring mysteries of the X-Men mythos...and if there's one thing that comic writers like, it's filling in these gaps with a retcon.
Enter the Draco
Before I get into the most infamous story in all of X-Men history, I want to talk about retcons a bit. As I've written before:
"As long as there have been comic books, there have been retcons. For all that they have acquired a bad reputation, retcons can be an incredibly useful tool in comics writing and shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand. Done right, retcons can add an enormous amount of depth and breadth to a character, making their worlds far richer than they were before. Instead, I would argue that retcons should be judged on the basis of whether they’re additive (bringing something new to the character by showing us a previously unknown aspect of their lives we never knew existed before) or subtractive (taking away something from the character that had previously been an important part of their identity), and how well those changes suit the character."
For a good example of an additive retcon, I would point to Chris Claremont re-writing Magneto's entire personality by revealing that he was a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust. As I have argued at some length, this transformed Magneto from a Doctor Doom knockoff into a complex and sympathetic character who could now work as a villain, anti-villain, anti-hero, or hero depending on the needs of the story.
For a good example of a subtractive retcon, I would point to...the Draco. If you're not familiar with this story, the TLDR is that it was revealed that Kurt's father was Azazel - an evil ancient mutant with the same powers and the same appearance (albeit color-shifted) as Kurt, who claims to be the devil and is part of a tribe of demonic-looking mutants who were banished to the Brimstone Dimension, and who fathered Nightcrawler as part of a plot to end this banishment.
Tumblr media
I don't want to belabor Chuck Austen, because I think that Connor Goldsmith is right about his run actually being a camp cult classic in retrospect. However, I think we both agree that the Draco was a misfire, because of how the retcon undermined Kurt's entire thematic purpose as established in Giant-Size X-Men that Nightcrawler was actually a noble and arguably saintly man who suffered from unjust prejudice due to the random accident that his mutation made him appear to be a demon, and because of how the retcon undermined the centrality of Mystique and Destiny's relationship.
X-Men Blue Origins
This brings us to the Krakoan era. In HOXPOX and X-Men and Inferno, Jonathan Hickman had made Mystique and Destiny a crucial part of the story in a way that they hadn't been in decades: they were the great nemeses of Moira X, they were the force that threatened to burn Krakoa to the ground by revealing the devil's bargain that Xavier had struck with Sinister (and Moira), they were the lens through which the potential futures of Krakoa were explored, and they ultimately reshaped the Quiet Council and the Five in incredibly consequential ways.
Tumblr media
This throughline was furthered after Hickman's departure, with Kieron Gillen exploring the backstories of Mystique and Destiny in Immortal X-Men and Sins of Sinister, and both Gillen and Si Spurrier exploring their relationship with Nightcrawler in AXE Judgement Day, Sins of Sinister, Way of X, Legion of X, Nightcrawlers, and Sons of X. One of the threads that wove through the interconnected fabric of these books was an increasing closeness between Kurt and Irene that needed an explanation. Many long-time readers began to anticipate that a retcon about Kurt's parentage was coming - and then we got X-Men Blue: Origins.
In this one issue, Si Spurrier had the difficult assignment of figuring out a way to "fix" the Draco and restore Claremont's intended backstory in a way that was surgical and elegant, that served the character arcs of Kurt, Raven, and Irene, and that dealt with complicated issues of trans and nonbinary representation, lesbian representation, disability representation, and the protean nature of the mutant metaphor. Thanks to help from Charlie Jane Anders and Steve Foxe, I think Spurrier succeeded tremendously.
I don't want to go through the issue beat-by-beat, because you should all read it, but the major retcon is that Mystique turns out to be a near-Omega level shapeshifter, who can rewrite themselves on a molecular level. Raven transformed into a male body and impregnated Irene, using bits of Azazel and many other men's DNA as her "pigments." In addition to being a deeply felt desire on both their parts to have a family together, this was part of Irene's plan to save them both (and the entire world) from Azazel's schemes, a plan that required them to abandon Kurt as a scapegoat-savior (a la Robert Graves' King Jesus), and to have Xavier wipe both their memories.
Tumblr media
Now, I'm not the right person to write about what this story means on a representational level; I'll leave it to my LGBT+ colleagues on the Cerebrocast discord and elsewhere to discuss the personal resonances the story had for them.
What I will say, however, is that I thought this issue threaded the needle of all of these competing imperatives very deftly. It "fixed" the Draco without completely negating it, it really deepened and complicated the characters and relationships of both Raven and Irene (by showing that, in a lot of ways, Destiny is the more ruthless and manipulative of the two), and it honored Kurt's core identity as a man of hope and compassion (even if it did put him in a rather thankless ingénue role for much of the book).
It is the very acme of an additive retcon; nothing was lost, everything was gained.
I still think the baby Nightcrawler is just a bad bit, but then again I don't really vibe with Spurrier's comedic stylings.

Shaking you by the shoulders and crawling up a wall cause Magneto knows how Rogue likes her coffee
– @unfortunately-obsessed
Tumblr media
!!! He does!!! I bet he knows a thing or two about her sweet tooth as well. All in all, that man is so well attuned to Rogue, I swear. In comics (and from what we've seen so far, I think to some extent in TAS too ) he understands her so damn well on so many levels because he always listens and pays attention. But back to that scene - I love how he knew exactly what he was doing. He waked into that house saying he doesn't want to cause drama and then he proceeds to serve drama for breakfast. He was well aware of the attraction between Rogue and Gambit and, while at that moment his relationship with Rogue was without romantic implications or expectations, he knew how moody and jealous Gambit could be. See, Magneto knew better than to complicate things but he couldn't help but poke at Gambit, give the man a shakeup to do something about Rogue instead of continuing that insecure boyish dance around her. Magneto would never get in the way of the relationship between Rogue and Gambit (and before someone raises their hand to say that he did just that in Episode 5 - I would disagree. I think Gambit did that to himself) if that is what Rogue would ultimately want. Doesn't mean he can't enjoy tormenting Gambit when possible. I have so many thoughts about that coffee scene but I'll just limit to one this time: it speaks of the difference between how Remy and Erik show their affection towards Rogue. Remy 's always on a chase for her attention. He offers things that he can think of; he is willing to offer everything regardless if she wants/needs it or not. Erik, on the other hand, doesn't need to seek her attention; he listens to who she is, to what she prefers, what she needs and his actions come across more like an answer, like an ongoing conversation between him and Rogue. Eric brings in a mature, tempered dynamic; Remy brings in a more young, boyish desire to prove himself and be seen, to be the best he can in a relationship. I also appreciate how the exchange itself is not malicious in any way; not from Magneto, not from Gambit and certainly not from Rogue (who clearly sees what is happening, stuck in the middle. Love that we got a continuation of that dynamic in the blackbird when she called both of them out). And this answer completely run away from me. But yes! Erik knows how Rogue prefers her coffee; he probably knows what kind of wine she likes best too, he knows her favorite authors, and how her handwriting looks like. He also knows the way she can look at you in the morning, the kind of look that makes a man want to be the best version of themselves and nothing less.

Y'all already know that it's X-Men week and DN do I have a lot to say as always.
I loved the sort of understanding between Scott and Jean and having Emma come out of the rubble in her diamond Form was everything I was honestly clutching my pearls hoping that would happen.
I love how the X-Men are seeing things in a new light especially my girl Rogue. First of all I love when she said that Remy was her man like when she started going on her tangents I was loving every last second of it. She knew that Remy was her man and she wasn't even ready to except that he was gone.
I hope in the next episode we get the entire X-Men team getting new outfits. They all deserve to wear some cool new uniforms. Did I mention how I die inside every time I see Remy in the opening.
I would also like to mention that I knew Magneto was alive all along And now all we need is to have Remy back. It was also nice to see Belladonna and Remy's family I enjoyed that. I love how understanding Kurt is. He is just so in tact with his emotions and you can tell how much he loves Rogue.
When Kurt told Rogue that she helped Remy and Magneto live I literally bursted into tears especially when the rest of the X-Men arrived I was so heart broken.
I also love how Jean thought of Madelyne like a sister especially with Storm gone. That was heartbreaking too. I honestly am not gonna lie, I was pretty ticked off at Cable for getting pissed at Jean considering she is the only reason Madelyne existed in the first place but I can't get to mad at him considering the fact that Madelyne is his mother and he has every right to feel a certain way
Also, not the villains thinking that the X-Men knew that Professor X was alive like no mam they are more clueless of you in that regard.
I loved when Wolverine was worried about Morph. Like that is his best friend for real and I love that for them to be honest.
Also Wolverine understood the assignment. Of course Rogue wanted that Bitch dead he was partially responsible for king her soulmate. Like shit when she dropped him I was literally screaming Go Queen Slay! Cause let's be honest, the X-Men are beyond to nice considering all the shit they have gone through.
Jubilee being there for Roberto was also special to me because I love them so much their relationship is just so damn cute and I hope they stay together. I was disappointed to know that Roberto's parents wanted him to hide who he was but I just couldn't blame them in the slightest. Not after what happened to Genosha.
I am so excited for the next episode I still want Rogue to go batshit Crazy and she looked so beautiful with her Hair wet and to be honest, all of the X-Men did. Loved this episode so much can't wait for next week.

So I know I've been fixated on this, but the more I think about it, the more signs are pointing to the timeline getting reset. Upon rewatch, there are just so many things about the events of ep5 that simply don't add up if this was meant to be permanent.
First, there was that weird psychic blast that hit Madelyne/Jean right before the attack. What was that about? Could it have been Cable? Possibly. But it seems awkward when it happens right before he shows up in the flesh anyway, so my guess is it had to do with someone else. But who?
It might be a stretch, but given what happened in ep6 with Xavier on his way back to Earth now, I could see it being Charles trying to warn them from the future via time travel tech. I might be way off base on that one, but we've certainly seen weirder things happen.
Also, Rogue wearing a version of her famous first-date-with-Remy dress in the comics only to dance with Magneto while Remy dies without knowing that she'd chosen him is a detail that stands out like a sore thumb. That didn't happen by accident. This was a very deliberate choice by the writers and unless the point of it was to just be intentionally cruel to Gambit AND Romy fans, (and I kind of doubt it was) this is going to come back somehow. These writers have been very reverential to the comics and they had to have known how fans would react to that. If those events aren't going to change so Rogue dances with Gambit instead, (paying off that line in ep1 about suffering her hand for a dance) then why do it this way? To heartbreakingly end one of the most iconic and popular relationships from X-MEN TAS, which was built up over 5 seasons, with no payoff at all? How is that an ending that would satisfy anybody?
Maybe I've got my tinfoil hat on a little too tight right now, but I just don't see any way that this is going to stick. I don't know if the attack will be prevented entirely, (probably not, tbh) but something about that night is going to be changed. You don't establish that the whole reason Cable's here is to stop the attack and then have him completely fail at stopping it.
Maybe Cable, Xavier and Forge put their heads together, get Cable's tech working properly and manage to warn everyone in time to make a difference.
In fact, I read a brilliant theory the other day that Xavier would use Madelyne/Jean as psychic conduits to make the X-men and everyone at the gala remember what happened before the attack starts, giving them enough of a heads up to save themselves. And ep5 was literally titled 'Remember It'; I mean, it could be more perfect.
AND since Sinister was behind the attack, how fitting would it be for Cable (the product of Sinister's machinations) to be the one who thwarts him?
What if Cable and Xavier manage to warn everyone in time, all the mutants of Genosha band together with the X-men to take the Wild Sentinel down and then afterward the gala happens, but with Rogue dancing with Remy this time?
I don't know... that's probably wrapping things up too neatly (and the teases of Remy becoming Death are piling up fast, so we can't rule that out) and I'm sure there are going to be consequences to the Sentinel attack that stick even if they do reset things, but narratively, this would make a lot of sense, not to mention finish the story in a way that doesn't leave Gambit/Romy fans utterly depressed and miserable.

Being in Love With Rogue (Unrequited) (Fem! Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Sorry yall but she’s my girlfriend, I fought Magneto and Gambit and won and now I kiss her every night
Warnings: Unrequited love, ANGST
Oh, it was so obvious to everyone in the Mansion how much you looked up to and adored the feisty southern Belle. She was absolutely beautiful, so strong and independent, never took any shit from anyone, and very headstrong and opinionated, what was there not to like about her? She was perfect, except…she was with Gambit, her soulmate. You couldn’t help but hate the swamp rat, wanting to be in his place so badly. Everyone could sense your feelings about the two of them, everyone except for Rogue herself. When you saw them kiss, you had the leave the room because of the anger boiling in you, and the sharp sting to your heart knowing he could touch her but you’d never be able to
Luckily almost everyone in the Mansion knew exactly what it was like seeing the one you were in love with love somebody else. Well, except Jean and Scott, but everyone else. Morph would sometimes make jokes about it, Wolverine would tell him to shut up and leave you be, Storm would rest a hand on your shoulder in silent comfort, Beast would say some intelligent quote you didn’t quite care about. You’d never fully quite come out to the team as sapphic, but it was painfully obvious and they accepted you without question. Jubilee and Roberto would often ask why you never told her your feelings for her before she had gotten with Gambit, but you never could answer them. Maybe you were too shy, too afraid of what she’d say, you didn’t know. But you knew she wouldn’t truly want to be with you if she couldn’t touch you, no matter how badly you wanted her
“Don’t worry kid, you’ll get over her soon enough.” Wolverine would say
“Maybe Gambit will turn her gay soon, who knows! He has awful guy habits.” Morph would quip
“To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment we can bring ourselves.” Beast would quote
“Perhaps you should talk to her, get some of it off of your chest.” Storm would agree
None of it helped, you couldn’t bring yourself to make her love life more complicated after all that Magneto and Gambit drama she had dealt with a few months ago. You didn’t need her to know, you didn’t see any point in it, nothing would change for you. You’d excuse yourself from your friends and go to your room to wallow, still feeling hopelessly heartbroken after watching Gambit dip and kiss her in the middle of the basketball court
Gambit was fully aware you had a crush on his girlfriend. He wasnt upset about it, he knew exactly how you felt, but you refused to talk to him about it or let him help you in any way. You were bitter and jealous of him, even if he was nothing but chill and nice to you. He did make an effort not to flaunt his relationship too much in your face, but he couldn’t help it if Rogue wanted a kiss from him while you happened to be there, it’s not like he’s deny her and you understood that
One day during a mission, things went south and Rogue got hurt badly. You couldn’t stop yourself from running to her to help, only to be beat by Gambit rushing over to help his girlfriend. You forced yourself to refocus back on the attacking Sentinels, feeling your feelings finally boil over and you raged against the robots, blasting them to bits and punching them far after they were down. You finally stopped when your knuckles bled profusely and tears overflowed your eyes, making you sob into your hands in a pile of broken machinery. You heard Morph and Jean trying to get your attention and ask you what was wrong, but you had been bottling up your feelings for so long you couldn’t hold them back anymore
“Y/N? What’s wrong, sugah?”
You looked behind you to see Rogue standing with some of the others, concern warping her face as she held her injured arm. You stared at her pretty face for a moment before quickly wiping your face and standing up, feeling like an immature child in front of them all. You whispered a quick “nothing” before attempting to leave, only to be stopped by Rogue grabbing your shoulder
“Y/N, we used ta be best friends! You can tell me! I don’t know what changed, but I want ta help ya!” She pleased with you, the other X-Men taking the hint and shuffling over to another area to let the two of you talk. Gambit made eye contact with you and gave you a nod, before joining the others out of earshot
“R-Rogue, I…I can’t tell you!” You cried out, dissolving into tears yet again right in front of her
“Of course ya can! You could tell me ya loved my boyfriend and I’d still listen!” She sat down with you in the rubble of the fight, tucking some of your messy hair behind your ear. Your breath hitched at the comment, knowing she was very close to being correct
“That’s uh…sorta the problem.” You finally admitted, looking down at your lap on shame. “Except…cept it’s not him I love…”
Rogue stared at you in confusion for a moment, before everything clicked in her head. Oh. That explains why you distanced yourself from her, stopped sharing everything with her, stopped coming to her when you needed someone, didn’t want to be friends with her anymore…
“Oh, Y/N.” She sighed, raising a hand to hold your chin to make you look at her. “Honey, I had no idea. I just thought…I didn’t realize. I’m so sorry. If I had known I wouldn’t’a been so…I’m so sorry!” She tugged you into a hug, her own eyes tearing up
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, I just…I didn’t want to complicate things for you even more. I didn’t want to be a burden on you.” You shyly hugged back, your first hug in what felt like forever. You buried your face in her fluffy hair, breathing in her scent and holding onto her tightly
“You could never be a burden on me, sweetie! I should’ve seen it, now that you say that it was so obvious! I didn’t mean to ignore you or make you feel like I didn’t care about ya! I do! I love ya! Just…not in the way ya want me to.”
“That’s okay, you don’t have to! I shouldn’t have been such a baby and just told you, woulda saved me a lot of heartache. Storm was right about that.”
“Aw man, did everybody know but me?” She laughed, pulling away and wiping her eyes of tears
“Kind of.” You giggled, wiping your own tears and smiling up at her
After that mission, your friendship was mended and you went back to telling her everything and going to her if you needed her. She was more mindful of PDA around you and didn’t talk to you about Remy unless you were okay with it (you were especially okay with it when they were fighting and he did some stupid shit). Your other friends were glad to see the two of you finally talking and being the duo you had always been, but you still drank with Wolverine and cried about her to him, who wasn’t fully paying attention to you and probably thinking of a certain red head he loved…

How an animated series saved Remy LeBeau (again)
Tumblr media
It's a bit of a hyperbolic title, but catchy, non?
I was looking over my comic collection as I've decided to reread X-Men's 60 year history over the course of the summer. And it got me thinking about a dead period of 616 canon that I've never actually read. Around the time Rogue hooked up with Magneto and scooted off to the Avengers, I decided I'd be done with comics for a while. And didn't start again until Rogue (and Gambit) came back to the X-books in 2017's Astonishing X-Men. But it made me wonder -- What happened to Gambit in that time??
Well, after his solo ended, he flitted around to X-Factor and hung out with X-23 and then kind of went 'poof' for a good long while.
Why? I can only guess the same reason this is a running motif with Gambit. There's something about him that drives the X-Office crazy. I'm not here to speculate what or how or who of it all. I don't know enough about the back end of Marvel to give concrete answers. But I think what has surprised me (recently) is that he's definitely a fan favorite character.
[Yes, I know he can be a divisive character. Yes, I know elements of his character from the 90s have not aged well. Yes, I know there are those of you who can't stand him. Don't really care - you can get off my lawn, thank you.]
Which got me thinking -- Gambit's original popularity, I believe, stemmed from the original X-Men Animated Series. He had just started showing up in the comics at the time, and had barely any kind of page time. And the X-Men TAS swung and was a hit. And so was Gambit.
I don't really know that Gambit would be around today if TAS hadn't done its thing. Would the X-Office have kept him around? I really have no idea.
But they did try to get rid of him. That was the point of leaving him in Antarctica. And things were just never the same after that. Claremont tried his best in the early 2000s. And then Deathbit happened. Carey's run wasn't bad. But Carey clearly had an agenda for other things... And then, Gambit just kind of faded into the background. (I hear his run as a side character for Laura (X-23) was good - but I haven't read that.)
Bless Kelly Thompson (always) for sparking life back into him with (and his relationship with Rogue). And bless the fact that she actually married him to Rogue. Yes, I understand comics -- my god look what they did to Peter and MJ, no one really gets to be happily married except Sue and Reed. He and Rogue are now really tied together in a way that I don't think is going to be undone any time soon.
Even if the X-Office still isn't thrilled with the guy. Krakoa era has been less than ideal. (I can't comment on it fully - I haven't read much of it, as I'm behind on my comic reading.) But I've heard rumors that one reason Thompson was let go was that she didn't want Gambit killed off. And she didn't like the direction they wanted to take the character.
Which leads me to X-Men 97. Killing him off sucked. Really. As a fan, it really sucked. But - my god, the reaction to it. Gambit was amazing. And all I've heard lately is good things about the character. There's been a Gambit resurgence in the best way. He may have went out -- but he went out with a bang. X-Men 97 made an emotional impact with people. And that changes things.
Gambit is cool again.
And I love it.
What's even more exciting is the fact that the X-Office has changed hands again and Gail Simone on Uncanny who (if her Twitter/X feed is to be believed) is really enjoying writing the character. Which means (hopefully) at least another year or two in the comics of some (hopefully) great Gambit stuff.
And maybe there will be some changing of hearts and minds in the X-Office.
It's actually very exciting.
And, guys, I really (really, really) doubt he'll be completely gone from X-Men 97, too.
Because Remy LeBeau never stays down for long.
But as a fan, it's nice to see him be on top again. And I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

Latest episode of X-Men ‘97, wow.
Omg there was so much going on in that episode can’t believe it was only 36 minutes.
Love square of Jean, Scott. Madelyne and Logan. Love triangle of Magneto, Rogue and Gambit, relationship drama galore.
I find it really amusing that Emma Frost has a front row seat to the drama with Jean, Madelyne and Scott like her own personal telenovela. Love that Madelyne has been forging her own path and becoming a part of the council of Genosha.
There’s a reporter doing a documentary about the X-Men and Xavier’s school. I’m a bit confused about Roberto being there. When we first meet him he’s a young rich party boy, heir to a wealthy Brazilian family that can just take a private jet wherever he wants to go and is ashamed and afraid of people, particularly his mother learning he’s a mutant so he leaves after episode one. Then he’s just always at the mansion hanging around with Jubilee and he’s in this documentary about a mutant school. Is he out to his family as a mutant or does he not care who knows anymore? I feel like this should’ve been addressed at some point.
Things are still really rocky with Scott and Jean, I can understand why he blew up at the reporter, she was being really invasive about his personal life and calling him a liar about having a son. And who was that doctor to make any statement about the birth? The bigot refused medical help to a woman in labour. But then he goes and has his psychic affair with Madelyne, dick move. And he’s been doing this since she left while shutting Jean out then turns everything around on her. Like Jean has been traumatised by what Sinister did to her. She doesn’t know how long he had her abducted, what he did while she was his prisoner, her mind is all messed up and on top of that her husband had a baby with her clone who had completely stolen her life (not Madelyne’s fault, this was 100% Sinister’s evil plan) and the only one who is actually supportive and understanding of her pain is Logan, no wonder she kissed him. Good on Logan for not trying to make the kiss into a big deal, Jean and Scott are married and he respects that even though he’s in love with her. The betrayal from Scott was even worse for Jean because their psychic connection has always been sacred between the two of them and her anchor when the Phoenix was overwhelming her and then he disregards all that because he’s in love with Madelyne too supposedly. Like I get their shared grief over having to give up their baby, it doesn’t give him a free pass to cheat on his wife.
Gambit was such a gentleman throughout the whole Rogue and Magento stuff, even though it was breaking his heart to see her with another man he respected her choice, didn’t try to blame or shame her about it and said they can be friends still. Rogue had a really rough time this episode. From the start of this season I felt uncomfortable with this Rogue and Magento pairing but when she explained their history to Gambit it was even worse because it just sounded like grooming and made Magento a creepy sexual predator. So Rogue ran away from home as a teenager after the trauma of putting the first boy she kissed in a coma and being rejected by her dad, gets taken in by Mystique who gets her to use her powers as part of her mutant terrorist group then brings this vulnerable teenage girl who is afraid to touch anyone to a middle aged man to help her control her powers and instead of doing that he fills her head with his ideologies and because he can touch her without it hurting either of them they become lovers. 🤢🤮 so creepy. Magento leverages the council of Genosha that he will only lead them if he can take Rogue as his “Queen” or co leader to the public, so she feels backed into a corner after seeing how amazing things on Genosha were for mutants now. Then after that amazing dance scene she realises that Gambit is the man she truly loves and what they have is more meaningful and goes beyond being able to touch and she chooses her swamp rat only to lose them both by the end of the episode.
The attack on Genosha was brutal but it was so amazingly done. Cable traveling back through time to try and warn everyone about the attack even though it goes against the rules of time travel, seeing Madelyn for a moment, her recognising him as her son by his eyes and him calling her “mom” as he got pulled back through time. The music, the chaos and panic you could literally feel through the screen, Magneto’s holocaust flashbacks, the Morlocks being trapped and thinking no one was coming to save them, Nightcrawler almost dying saving Rogue and Magneto.
Rogue and Gambit were the ultimate power couple fighting their way to the Morlocks, a better dance than the one she had with Magneto. Magneto saving Rogue and Gambit while he tried to shelter the Morlocks from the sentinel blast, so tragic. Then Gambit saves Rogue from getting herself killed by attacking the sentinel in a rage, takes it on by himself to save everyone and destroys it but sacrificing his own life in the process 😭.
The tragedy is they foreshadowed this in the first episode when Jean/Madelyne went into Trask’s mind and then both Jean and Madelyne got a psychic premonition of the attack just before it happened but were unable to do anything to stop it.
When the dust settles at the end you see the X-Men witness the aftermath of the attack, the few surviving mutants gather around the crater where Rogue is cradling Remy’s body. She’s finally able to touch him but only because he’s dead. “Sugah. I can’t feel you.” 💔
That killed me at the end, was so shocked that they killed Magneto and Gambit within minutes of each other. I know they probably won’t be dead forever but fuck that was brutal.
I know next week’s episode is gonna be Storm centric so we’ll probably have to wait 2 weeks to see what happens with the rest of the X-Men and hopefully by then Storm is ready to rejoin the team. There was a moment in the Genosha attack where Val Cooper is helping evacuate mutants to the gardens and she looks back at the sentinels and there’s this look in her eye that made me wonder is she Val Cooper or Mystique in disguise? We haven’t seen Mystique in the show so far but what if she’s been there all along? Maybe she was afraid of being exposed as an imposter by the sentinels because they’d know she’s not human.

can I ask how you feel about Magneto's breakdown after almost killing Kitty. I mean that's techinically inversion too BUT it's a Jewish writer writing a Jewish survivor having a panic moment rather than a racist goy on the show doinng
like Claremont knows what he's doing literally every writer since (Besides Pak) don't
I don't think it's inversion as much as, like you said, a Jewish survivor having a panic moment. It kind of reminds me of like, for example, someone growing up abused and then realizing that their actions, intentionally or unintentionally, are also abusive. Magneto almost killing a fellow Jew and mutant and having a breakdown about it is honestly very poignant.
Inversion would be "oh Magneto is a Holocaust survivor and now he is oppressing other marginalized people, how ironic". But instead it's Magneto, a mutant and a Jew, realizing that his actions to avenge and protect his people have caused harm to one of his own. It's Magneto realizing that the actions he thought were for the greater good were actually hurting people he cared about.
And that's honestly the difference between Claremont and almost every other Marvel writer lol. (That's another thing I hate about recent runs, not showing enough of the unique relationship between Magneto and Kitty Pryde)

I don’t think that Rogue is in any way responsible for Remy’s, or anyones, feelings however I do think that the scenes with Magneto showed how emotionally immature she can be at times - she’s still stuck in that thirteen year old girl mindset that is fixated on physical contact. Most people who have been in relationships or dated around a bit know that there’s far more to them than just the physical side but Rogue has experienced none of that, just the carefully constructed relationship that Magneto (and Mystique) wanted her to have. She went from almost killing her first boyfriend to being involved with a much older man who is able to give her the thing she’s been desperate for - physical touch. Rogue has never had a chance to experience all the in-between bits or understand that not everything needs to revolve around kissing and physical intimacy. With all of that combined its understandable that she sometimes doesn’t realise that her actions can hurt those around her.
Then up pops Remy who is so full of life and fun and makes it obvious from the get-go that he’s into her. But he’s also been consistently shown to enjoy just spending time with her or doing things that have no relation to physical contact. I don’t think Rogue has the experience or understanding that those things can be just as intimate in a relationship as kissing or sex. Thats why she keeps fixating on the physical side and when that doesn’t work she’s understandably devastated.
For Rogue it feels like a win to realise that Remy is the one she wants, touch or no touch, and seeks him out without registering that this is a potentially cruel thing to do, because she can’t quite see outside of her own wants and needs. I think if she’d had a few relationships under her belt then Rogue would have realised that, regardless of intention, she had hurt Remys feelings with the dancing and the kissing - even if he didn’t see it, it’s not like nobody is going to tell Remy.
On Remys part its just another instance where he is yet again nobodies first choice; his bio parents didn’t want him, Jean-Luc left him out on the streets until he was of use to the Guild then kicked him out again and the Xmen at times have one rule for him and completely different set of rules for everybody else re Antartica. Rogue turning around and deciding that she wants him barely ten minutes after telling him that she’d rather be with Magneto is only going to pick at these insecurities because Remy has his own trauma to deal with, trauma that isn’t directly related to his powers, kind of the opposite to Rouge which is a nice parallel. Again, most people who have dated would have clocked this and perhaps taken a different route.
Anyway, sorry for the essay, i just really liked your post and I don’t think its fair to put Remys hurt feelings on Rogue. However I would have loved to have seen them have that conversation so that Rogue could have had some growth in terms of relationships. I love her but it can feel a bit one sided at times in that her feelings are always to be tended to first, regardless of what has happened.
Who knows, maybe we'll see that if we get Death Remy...
Yeah this definitely isn’t the end of the drama and all this is so true! Rogue has had so little experience with love so she is just very confused. She also can’t help the fact that she realized she wanted Remy RIGHT after rejecting him. Her whole life has been the same old chasing and yearning for touch and now she’s faced with the choice of either touch or feelings so she really doesn’t know what to do. She’s faced with all these realizations at once so maybe it’s a good things she’s not going to be getting into a relationship with Gambit right away. She needs some experience with relationships but right now she’s having way too much and I think she needs a little break to really understand her feelings.

Dating Yandere Erik Lensherr (Magneto) Would Include:
Tumblr media
Dating him as a yandere can be terrifying and thrilling at the same time. As a yandere, he can be obsessive and possessive to the point of being violent towards anyone who tries to get close to you. His love for you can be deep and passionate, but it can also turn into something dark and twisted without warning. You will always be the target of his affections, but if you make one wrong move, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble.
Dating someone who's a bit on the "yandere" side can have its moments. He can be extremely passionate, possessive, and jealous. He may also have a tendency to lash out or be unpredictable at times. However, if you're willing to put up with all of that, there's also a lot of love and care involved. It won't be a boring relationship, that's for sure.
It can be both fun and exhausting at the same time, since he can be quite possessive of you, always wanting to hold you in his arms and wanting to protect you from any danger. But at the same time, he tries to allow you to be free, since he understands that you have other interests and hobbies besides him.
As someone who has been through so much trauma, he can get very clingy and overprotective. He may seem overprotective but he's just being cautious and caring. If you try to hurt him or anyone he cares about, you will see his dark side. He could seem possessive at times but trust me, he just cares a lot. Just please understand that he's been through more than you know or can imagine or at least that's what he tells you.
He may seem harsh and strict on the outside, but he's actually quite an affectionate person when he's in a relationship especially when you do what he wants. He'd make sure to spoil you with gifts, dates, and plenty of love and affection. But if you betray his trust, he can also be quite cruel.
It’s going to be difficult dating him as a yandere to be quite honest. He's extremely possessive, aggressive, and emotionally unstable. He's very prone to having violent meltdowns and he has a low tolerance for patience and empathy, making him a very destructive partner.
Since he has a few psychological disturbances, he sometimes tends to act very clingy and possessive over his partner. He may lash out if you talk to other people and can’t handle the thought of losing you. He likes to be the only one in your life and will do anything to keep it that way.
He cannot tolerate any rival in his love life. His possessiveness will take over any rational reasoning and he can't bear the thought of you spending any time with someone else. It can be a bit suffocating for his lover and he usually likes to know all your activities all the time, just to make sure that you are not seeing anyone else. He can become obsessive and a bit aggressive too.
He would expect you to be devoted and loyal to him. He'd want you to be willing to do anything for him, and in return, he'd take care of you. If you did anything to break his trust, he'd become possessive, jealous, and possibly even violent. The worst thing you could dare do is cheat on him.
He'd be very possessive of you when it comes to other people. He'd be jealous and insecure if you were to talk or interact with others at all. He would need to have you all to himself and wouldn't stop until you're his completely.
His personality is also very intense and passionate. He's a man of extremes, and he feels everything extremely strongly. That includes his love and affection for you. So dating him as a yandere will be intense and exciting, but also potentially dangerous and unpredictable.
He can be quite moody and temperamental at times. He's a complicated person with a lot of different sides to his personality. He can be a sweet and caring boyfriend one moment, and the next moment a complete nightmare. But underneath all of those different layers is a deep and true passion for the ones he loves. He's a complicated character that can't be fully described in just a few words.
He'd be quite manipulative. He knows how to get what he wants and play to people's vulnerabilities. He's a clever schemer and he wouldn't hesitate to use that trait to his advantage. Though he could be overly possessive and manipulative, there's a softer side to him that would just need some love and affection before it can blossom.
His possessiveness isn't just limited to physical aspects. He would also want you to be emotionally and mentally devoted to him as well. He would want to be the center of your world and he would expect you to only have eyes for him. He wouldn't want you to hang out with or talk to other people, especially of the opposite gender.
Dating him would mean he wouldn't let you go anywhere without him by your side. He would be very controlling and manipulative, he would isolate you from your friends and family so you only have him. He would be obsessive about everything you do, who you're with, where you've been, etc. He will constantly check up on you and always have eyes on you.
He would be very demanding, needing lots of attention and affection, and he'd be very territorial towards you. If anyone ever touched you or tried to take you away from him, he'd become extremely violent and vengeful. He'd also be very obsessed with you, wanting to know every little detail of your life.
Dates with him as a yandere would be… interesting. He'd be very possessive and overbearing during the dates, wanting to be glued to you at all times. His jealous tendencies would also arise, becoming very upset and angry if he saw you talking to someone else. He'd be very clingy, wanting to hold your hand and be near you at all times. He'd be very intense about the dates, wanting them to be perfect and all about him.
He would likely give you lavish and extravagant gifts to ensure you stayed with him. He would also likely spoil you rotten and treat you like a princess. He would be very affectionate and loving towards you, showering you with compliments and love. He'd be willing to do anything and everything for you, ensuring that you were happy and satisfied.
If you ever made him mad or upset him, he'd likely punish you in some way. He might give you the silent treatment, ignore you, or get very angry and aggressive. He would also manipulate you and use your emotions against you, playing mind games with you to get you to comply with him. He would likely be very strict and would not hesitate to be harsh and cruel with you if you didn't obey him.
He would likely be very controlling and possessive and would want you to do what he says without question. He'd be very possessive of your phone and try to constantly have access to it, not letting you have any privacy. He'd also likely be very jealous and emotionally reactive, being prone to outbursts of anger and violence if he ever noticed anyone else was interested in you or had their eye on you even if it was through your socials.
Biting: He likes the feeling of someone biting or nibbling on his ears, neck, shoulders, and other places as well as marking you as his.
Toys: He enjoys using different toys and objects to enhance your experience, such as handcuffs, vibrators, or paddles.
Domination: He likes to let loose and lose himself in the moment, taking the lead and being in control.
Bondage: He likes tying you up, or using other forms of restraint to spice up your intimate moments.
Another thing He likes is when you are responsive and reactive to his actions. If you are enjoying yourself and communicating that, it makes him feel like he is bringing you pure pleasure.

X-Men 97 episode 6 *SPOILERS*
Shi'ar Empire/Space
Honestly, I wasn't expecting to see them and get an update on Xavier in this episode cause I thought this was gonna be the full Lifedeath conclusion, so more focus on Storm. But, I think it's nice to see how he's doing.
This is the first time we see Deathbird AKA Lilandra's sister in the X-Men animated series, and I like her look.
Gladiator is such a stoic bad@$$. Ngl, after seeing him fight after so long, Superman popped into my head. I think it was the powerset he displayed.
Ronan and the Kree! I wasn't expecting to see them cause we never had the Kree mentioned or shown in the previous show, so this was a nice surprise. Aldo, it's so refreshing to see Ronan the Accuser in his more comic- accurate outfit. Cause, I've only recently seen him and the Kree in their MCU outfits, so seeing the classics was nice.
Noticed Vulcan during the beginning....kinda awkward cause he's Scott's other brother. Dunno if they'll do anything with that, but then again, they didn't do much with Havok in the previous show.
It's good to see Xavier healthy again, but why hasn't he checked up on the X-Men during that year? Why didn't he let them know that he's okay? Is it because of that black hole?
Didn't know Xavier was interested in being Lilandra's....pet....psychics be kinky.
Xavier talking about Magnus....oh god, when he finds out what happened to him....
Man, even in space, mutants can't catch a break! Xavier gonna be emperor along with Lilandra, and these sunsofbeeches hate it cause he's Terran AND a mutant. Like, can the mutants EVER get anything nice?!
Xavier was willing to forgo his memories on Earth and of his friends and family. Just to be with Lilandra....god dammit, this show really is a soap opera.
Xavier educating the Shi'ar council, Deathbird, Gladiator, and even Lilandra on their system and why it's bad was pretty funny. Dude was going back to being a teacher. And, I thought he was succeeding until....
The vision. Now, he knows what happened to Genosha, and he gotta go back. Good, cause they need him more than ever. I just wish it didn't have to break him and Lilandra up. Like, can we have a good relationship that doesn't end in a breakup, death, or have way too much drama, please?!?!
GAMBIT!!! 😭 It still hurts! But, the vision could also be foreshadowing that he'll become Death of the Four Horsemen. And Magneto wasn't there, so does that mean he survived?!
Storm, Forge, and the Adversary
Storm called Forge "my love". She was mad at him earlier, but I guess despite the anger, she loves him too and understood that he tried to help her despite what he did.
The Adversary is spooky. I didn't get how they appeared, but from what the show says, the demon appears to feed on the self-loathing, so they sensed Forge AND Storm and came to them.
Storm's fear of tight spaces comes into play. The Adversary used her fear against her which almost worked. First time Forge was able to banish the demon, despite being poisoned, and the second time, Storm overcame her fears and doubts and got her powers back.
Oh yeah, MISTRESS OF THE ELEMENTS IS BACK!!! 🤩 She even got her iconic black outfit with the tiara! I'll miss her classic white outfit, though. And she got her long hair back! No offense to the mohawk.
Shoutout to @stormandforge for talking about how she got her powers back cause I was so confused and sleep-deprived. What makes the most sense was the machine Forge used worked. It's just that she had some kind of mental/psychological block going on with her powers and had to overcome it to reactivate them. Kinda like how Peter lost his powers in Spider-Man 2. As for how she got her outfit, well, Storm, in the very first episode in the previous show, used her lightning to change outfits. So, I chopped it off to that. Yeah, lightning doesn't work like that, but she looks beautiful! The hair was actually what I was most confused about cause she had a mohawk, and suddenly, her hair got long again? I thought some parts of her head was shaved. So how did her change? Same way as the outfit?
Forge is cured, so fingers crossed these two will be together and not end poorly and messy as it did in the comics. Please, I just need one good relationship in this freaking show that isn't gonna end in tragedy.
And she knows about Genosha. God, I really hope she doesn't get survivors guilt over this. But, we need her and Xavier more than ever with what's to come.
The rest
Y'know, it was one thing for Trask to be involved with the massacre, but Mr. Sinister? I wasn't expecting that. I thought it was the FoH or Apocalypse or maybe Nimrod. Either way, I'm mad now that I know who's responsible cause how dare them kill Gambit, Magneto, Leech and the others, and hurt Nightcrawler and Rogue! I really hope that they find a way to finish him off for good and make it hurt like hell!
NIGHTCRAWLER GOT TO BE PART OF THE INTRO!!! 🤩 Does that mean he's gonna be finally part of the X-Men? Will we ever get him using his swords? Cause they keep teasing that!
I just wish it wasn't at the expense of Magneto and Gambit's intros. Man, I was bracing myself, and they had to do that and the recap! UGH, IT STILL HURTS! 😭
The episodes have really alternated with multiple storylines in this show. The previous one usually focuses on one story at a time.
So, that's pretty much it. Good episode. One more episode left until even more trauma will be inflicted on us cause 8-10 are gonna be a doozy.
