i find it interesting that everyone has accepted that nie zonghui inexplicably has two sabers when no one else in the show dual wields and my sister and i both assumed that he carries huaisang’s saber when we first watched fatal journey.
think about it. mingje wouldn’t let huaisang go on such a dangerous mission without his blade, and if huaisang wouldn’t carry it, he’d have someone else have it on their back, someone who he trusts and who he plans to have stick by huaisang to give him the blade the moment he asks for it.  zonghui has probably done this numerous times just from ensuring huaisang doesn’t leave his blade in random spots at the unclean realm, so much so that the saber is perfectly fine being wielded by him and he is adept at using it alongside his own blade.  when huaisang takes it from him in the woods, it’s not one of his subordinates giving him one of their swords, it’s him finally taking up his own saber, a decision that he still doesn’t feel comfortable with and therefore recants when he gives the blade back to him to hold again in the tomb

There's just inches in-between us (I want you to give in)
Lan Wangji draws a card from the thick stack placed in the middle of the group circle. His eyes scan the text quickly, before briefly flitting towards Wei Ying, who is currently emptying out the contents of a beer can.
"Read it out loud." Nie Huaisang urges, filling up a shot glass with vodka, smiling all too serenely. A challenge, Lan Wangji knows. A silent 'I am certain you won't do what the card says, so you'll have to drink'.
But Lan Wangji is not going to give Nie Huaisang the satisfaction. He sets the card up, facing the group and recites simply: "give a hickey to the hottest person in the room or take three shots".
Even getting the stern and serious Lan Wangji to utter those words is enough to send the whole circle reeling, elbowing one another, laughing. They are all so sure someone as reserved as the Second Jade of Lan won't ever be touching someone else intimately and in public. So he definitely has to drink now - which he's famously known for avoiding.
"So, what do you choose?" Nie Huaisang asks, again, challenging.
Lan Wangji gives him a pointed look, then gets up from his seat on the floor, walks up to Wei Ying's and latches his lips on the column of the other's neck without warning. The group errupts in cheers and hoots, so loud that Wei Ying's soft moan is lost in it.
It takes them around 5 minutes to calm down, then it's Wei Ying's turn to draw a card. His lips curl into a mischevious smile. "Send someone in the room a sexy picture or take two shots."
Lan Wangji swallows visibly. Wei Ying smiles, flirty and knowing.
"I'll do it."
Several seconds later, Lan Zhan's phone pings. There is some whistling and giggling from the group as he takes a very quick glance at his phone screen and immediately pockets it.
"The rules say that the fifth person in a row to do the dare gets to choose whoever goes next, so since you did the challenge, take your pick, Wei-xiong."
"Can I pick myself?"
Nie Huaisang shrugs. Wei Ying takes it as a yes and picks another card.
"Passionately make out with someone of your choice for two minutes or take three shots."
Nie Huaisang fills up three glasses. Wei Ying rolls his eyes, playfully scandalized. "I'll do the dare."
"Oh, I know. These aren't for you."
And Nie Huaisang passes a glass to Lan Xichen, Jiang Cheng and keeps one for himself.
Wei Ying rolls his eyes again before quickly crossing over to where Lan Zhan sits and plopping himself in the man's lap. "Do you mind?"
"Do your worst."
Their lips meet in a passionate, feverish frenzy a second later, Wei Ying's hands and legs wrapping around Lan Zhan's torso as the other's hands cup at his ass.
Lan Xichen takes his shot and signals Huaisang to pour him another. Jiang Cheng just steals the whole bottle and takes a big swig.
"Is anyone gonna time them?" MianMian asks, forcing herself to look anywhere but at the lusty pair.
"I doubt that will be of any use." Lan Xichen sighs. "We should move to the other room, they will join us when they're... finished."
Everyone makes quick work of scrambling out of the room. Lan Xichen picks up the vodka bottle on his way out and locks the door.

I think in MDZS there is a fair share of nurture as well as nature. if Xue Yang lived similarly to WWX and didn't lose a finger he would still kill dogs, hunt and hound them and deeply resent and wish to take revenge on/or slaughter the Jiangs; that is his nature to think of himself as more important than the others; the nurture part comes in with the fact that if he had people like Xiao Xingchen earlier in his life; just like he stopped "night hunting walking corpses" he wouldn't have acted out on those impulses; however you cannot deny that being favoured by the jins, he did have stability; he chose to abuse it. he put xiao xingchen giving him chocolates and showing him kindness as of more stable of a state (which is right) yet the moment he is pushed up in a corner, he reverts back to his NATURE. and in his nature, he hurts others to protect himself. if others did x to him he can kill not only the person who did it but also everybody else who is close to that person, who didn't deserve to die. yet, he won't see HIS actions as crimes. won't regret them. thus, Wei Wuxian says, "if you had to kill someone, you should've executed yourself" because some characters have a strong moral code and fail to adhere (nie mingjue, lan xichen), some's adherence to their moral code makes them fail (wei wuxian, xiao xingchen), some do not have a moral code (jin guangsham), some are willing to push it aside for revenge (nie huaisang) and some twist around their watching frames to justify their immoral behavior (Jiang Cheng, xue yang, Jin Guangyao)

Sangyao for the ship game?
WOW I forgot I decided to do this meme, I am so sorry for leaving you hanging, anon!! (and also to the other people who sent me asks, I will get on those now) so:
ship it 👍
but as with most of my non-xiyao ships, I don't think I sail this particular one the way lots of other sangyao shippers do, since 1) I think there is very little canon support for it, and 2) in all of my non-jgy ships, I can never divorce jgy from his feelings for lxc. so even when I ship jgy with anyone else, he still loves er-ge best, and that is bound to be something that not everyone is here for.
that said, here are my answers to the other questions:
1. what made me ship it?
it was their vibes in cql, I think! I loved how quick meng yao was to throw himself between wen chao et al. and nie huaisang during the cloud recesses reception in episode 4, and how nie huaisang immediately shrank back behind him. because he trusted meng yao to take care of him--meng yao, who may or may not even have a golden core at this point, has not been raised among cultivators, but who nevertheless on pure instinct places himself in harm's way to protect chifeng-zun's easily flustered didi. in the novel, it was all of the gifts that jgy showered on nhs after he becomes jin guangyao, and how much joy and delight nhs seems to derive from his visits, as well as receiving such thoughtful gifts from someone who seems to actually understand his interests. I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't a little 👀 over the possibilities of what these two often underestimated men could accomplish if they were given the opportunities to do what they do best and support each other while doing it. (well. jgy would probably do most of the supporting, but I won't throw nhs totally under the bus in that department).
2. what are my favourite things about this ship?
this is another area where I expect my answer is not going to be super popular among some other sangyao shippers, but whatever, here goes. probably what I find most compelling about this ship is that, no matter how attentive and loving and devoted to meeting nhs's needs as jgy is, nhs will always know on some level that in jgy's heart, there can only be lan xichen. and given the darkness I think is absolutely present in nhs's heart even before nmj dies, I think there is a lot of potential for gothic horror-romance there. tl;dr this is not the ship I reach for when I want to indulge in some happily-ever-after vibes, even when I am hoping to use a romance between the two as part of a canon-divergent fix-it.
aside from that downer, I do like that nhs as a person is just extremely hands-on and tactile with how he interacts with others. in a sangyao ship, I imagine this was something that shocked jgy to start with, but I can also see it being one of the things that he comes to cherish most about their relationship. because nhs just doesn't care about the world's perception of him, and it does not occur to him to be too concerned with the world's perception of jgy either. he wants to drape himself dramatically across his san-ge and beg for help with these wretched grain tariffs, and no one is going to stop him, and as much as this probably exasperates (and frightens, on some level) jgy, I don't think he would give that up easily.
3. is there an unpopular opinion I have about this ship?
y... yeah. lol. a lot of them to be honest. I do not vibe with the idea that jgy would ever have chosen to do nhs harm prior to figuring out that nhs is behind the complete destruction of his whole life, and so when I see jgy being cruel to nhs physically or emotionally in fic, I smash that back button. I also don't think that a happy ending for jgy involves becoming nie-furen (or nie-er-furen, if nmj is still alive) anymore than I think he would be happy as lan-furen, and while there's far less fic for this than there is lan-furen, I still just sigh when I encounter even fanon speculation about it. jgy isn't a lan, and he isn't a nie--he's a jin, and I think while nhs is blind to a lot of things, he would not be blind to something like that.
wahoo, better late than never!!

SangYao for the Scary OTP? :)
Oooh, SangYao! This should be fun *rubs hands together*. Thank you so much for the ask :D
Which one is more fond of scary movies: Nie Huaisang - he loves them, loves pretending to be scared, especially when Meng Yao's around so he can run to him and cajole him into 'comforting' him. And Meng Yao loves being needed, so even though he's not a fan of the movies, he doesn't mind when NHS puts one on.
Which one gets the most excited about Halloween: BOTH, but for different reasons. NHS loves dressing up, finding the *best* costume and flaunting it, and spending time with all of his loved ones, and what's Halloween but an excuse to have a party? And speaking of parties... this is why Meng Yao gets excited about Halloween, because he gets to PLAN the most fabulous, the best party of the year - and if he happens to choose themes or tweak things a little to accomodate NHS' costume of the year, then none are the wiser ;) And yes, these two would do a KILLER couple's costume!
Which one would be more likely to survive the apocalypse: BOTH. These two are survivors in their own ways, more so than most in the canon (my opinion). NHS has the power of Dage, the puppy dog eyes of cajoling, and an innate ability to fly by the seat of his pants to get what he wants. Meng Yao, for his part, has planned for every contingency, including nuclear apocalypses, and will definitely be among the survivors. And then when you put these two TOGETHER, they are definitely coming out on top!
Which one would literally kill for the other: BOTH. We all know NHS would kill for someone he loves (else canon would not have happened), even if he wont' do the job himself and instead get someone else to do it and take the blame. But Meng Yao tends to classify everyone around him as "those with me" and "those against me", and he would kill for all of those who are in the with him category - of which NHS has always been (and arguably in canon as well, at least until NHS got him killed).
Which one likes to scare or startle the other: Nie Huaisang loves to TRY to startle Meng Yao, but he doesn't *really* try, just pretends to be fun and have an excuse to put his hands on his boyfriend. Meng Yao always hears him coming but pretends he doesn't, so it's a game between them! But Meng Yao unintentionally succeeds at startling NHS - our boy gets very lost in his brain when he's painting or writing or doing anything creative, and Meng Yao can think he's telegraphing his approach so NHS will hear him coming, but NHS doesn't and gets startled no matter what.
Which one is more likely to need comforting when they get spooked: Meng Yao. NHS LOVES being comforted, but he doesn't *need* it. Meng Yao, however, instinctively thinks he's on his own even if his brain knows he isn't, and his childhood has really traumatised him, so when he's spooked, he's SPOOKED. Thankfully, NHS can read people better than Meng Yao can, and at the first hint that Meng Yao needs comfort, he'll hang off of him and pretend it's *him* that needs it, because Meng Yao will NOT ask for it.
Which one always puts on a brave face: Meng Yao, for sure! NHS puts on a coward's face, while Meng Yao has perfected his customer service smile (I consider that his brave face).
Which one would be more dangerous if they suddenly became violent: (Looks at canon). BOTH.
Which one would be more likely to commit a crime: (Looks at canon). BOTH :D
Which one believes in ghosts: In canon, both because it's part of the universe. In an AU, neither - NHS might pretend he does for fun, but he won't believe it if he doesn't see it. Meng Yao is highly skeptical and refuses to believe in anything he can't see, feel, or hear himself, and others' perceptions are rarely to be trusted.
Which one likes to watch spooky show on television: Nie Huaisang, reasons similar to the movies - but Meng Yao doesn't mind letting him ;)
Which one would propose the idea of holding a seance: Nie Huaisang might as a lark, but not seriously. Meng Yao would only suggest it if it's part of a greater plan to do something else, like trick some rich guy out of his money or kill his father.
Which one has nightmares more often: Meng Yao. So many things give him nightmares, from his childhood in the brothel to the Sunshot Campaign.
Which one would want to explore a real haunted house: NEITHER. NHS wouldn't want to get dirty, and Meng Yao would be insulted you'd think he'd go into a death trap that likely hasn't seen renovations in five decades.

SangYao Horror(Ish) Ideas, Part Two
Soulmate marks that evolve as the other person changes.
When Meng Yao is legitimized as Jin Guangyao, Nie Huaisang wonders if he was wrong to assume Meng Yao was his soulmate because his mark doesn't change accordingly.
Then after Nie Mingjue is murdered, it does.
Also, you can't physically harm your soulmate, even indirectly. But emotionally? Oh, buddy.
Jin Guangyao is fully aware that the only reason Nie Huaisang hasn't buried a knife in his ribs is because they're bound. But that seething miasma of love and hate and pain that boils around the younger man is thick enough to choke on.
It's horrible. It's fascinating. He can't stay away, happy to drown in it because it's proof that they are indelibly etched into each other's psyche.
For better or worse, there is no one in the world who feels as much for him as Nie Huaisang does, and it's beautiful.
-------------
When Jin Guangyao is legitimized, he has to undergo the same summoning ritual as the rest of the inner family. Before he even enters the chamber, there are snide cracks about how he'll surely fail, being only a bastard son.
Anger simmers in his nerves as he uses his blood to activate the sigils surrounding the main array, and then the array itself.
For a moment, nothing happens, and the fear that the mockery was right starts to flood him-
-and then it's chased away by the feeling of slender arms resting lightly around his waist and a soft, sweet voice in his ear from behind.
~Be at peace. I will help you.~
The feeling vanishes and he opens his eyes to find a bird sitting on the pillar in the middle of the array. Size-wise, it is barely equal to a crow, hardly impressive compared to the eagle of his father or the peacock of his half-brother, but it's a stunningly pretty creature, all dark iridescent green with gold and cream accents.
And though there are the inevitable rude comments from his family and the other disciples, he quickly discovers that what his companion -'Huaisang' the sweet voice in his head insists- lacks in physical presence, he more than makes up for with his deep magic well and clever mind.
And not being very big makes for an ideal spy, too.
Even with his father's derision and the madam's rage, perhaps it won't be so hard to navigate this snake-filled labyrinth of a sect after all. (Fun Note: while all familiars can speak to their owners, Nie Huaisang is the only one in the Jin sect who can actually take human form because his magic is stronger.)
------------
Over the course of several lifetimes, Nie Huaisang and Meng Yao always seem to get together, but it always, always ends with Meng Yao leaving Nie Huaisang for someone else and then things going to hell, mostly for Nie Huaisang. It doesn't matter whether they start out as enemies or friends, whether one or both or neither is a villain. Even in the lifetimes that should be simple and comfortable, that's the one constant.
Eventually, the memories start carrying over from lifetime to lifetime for Nie Huaisang. Weird senses of deja vu or impending danger.
And then, in lifetime fourteen, it all comes crashing in on him.
He starts trying to avoid Meng Yao, but it never works. Somehow their social circles remain intertwined and they always run across each other.
He tries not to fall in love, but that seems to be impossible too.
His sanity fraying with each lifetime, he comes to the conclusion that the only way to break whatever curse has been laid is for one of them to die early.
He can't bring himself to kill Meng Yao, but he's okay with killing himself as many times as it takes.
It’s lifetime number thirty-two and he's just met his brother's new PA. Excusing himself from the business party, he makes his way to the roof.
Someone grabs him before he can step off the edge, and he cracks, struggling and begging to be allowed to break the curse before he has to live all that misery again.
---
Having had to drop out of college to work for his mother's medical care, Meng Yao took up a job as a tester for an experimental new VR game, both for the extra money to help his mom and because a few hours of escapism a week is nice.
It's an otome/time princess-style game where the player can hop into different time periods/fantasy worlds and set up a storyline using a "toybox" of character templates. It's supposed to be the most immersive game ever designed.
And now he's watching one of the AIs apparently have a psychotic breakdown because something has gone terribly wrong and the poor thing has been loading all of the different scenarios he played.
He should report the glitch, but that might result in the AI being removed, or even destroyed, and after seeing that it -he- has become sentient, he finds he had become attached.
-----------
Very-slightly-dark sangyao where Meng Yao manipulates Nie Huaisang just a little bit to find out how genuine his crush is/how much he values Meng Yao’s advice.
He "confronts" Nie Huaisang about how much of a cuddly touchy-feely person he is, and while he doesn't outright accuse Nie Huaisang of taking advantage of the help the way, say, Jin Guangshan flagrantly does, the implication that that's what people think he's doing is there.
For the next several weeks, he observes as Nie Huaisang, appropriately troubled by the idea that he's been trampling everyone's boundaries and they've just been putting up with it because they have no other choice, begins drawing back to the point it almost looks like he's isolating himself.
The other fortress staff are confused and concerned by the sudden distance, since they always found his cheerful affection endearing, while the disciples are pleased that he's finally “matured” enough that he’s no longer bothering them when he should be training. (the latter response causing him to retreat even further.)
Satisfied by the results, Meng Yao decides to "clarify" their last discussion by gently reassuring Nie Huaisang that he does like him, they just can't risk being all that close with their differing statuses and the outside opinions that come with them.
Once he's been legitimized, Meng Yao promises, that can change, and he is further satisfied when Nie Huaisang agrees to wait.
The murder of the captain, of course, throws a wrench in the gears, but knowing that Huaisang tried to plead his case further cements the fact that his feelings are authentic.
But are they strong enough to survive a war and the physical distance between them?
When they meet again at the victory celebration and Nie Huaisang smiles and shyly ducks his head in greeting despite otherwise clearly not wanting to be there, Jin Guangyao knows he's got him for good.
------------
Meng Yao nurtures that little seed of darkness he sees within Nie Huaisang, looking for a kindred spirit, only to have it backfire on him because it turns out Huaisang's dark side is even more yandere-flavored than his own. it's fine, a little attic wifing will be good for him.
------------
Timeline where the Sunshot forces win, only to discover that both Wen Ruohan and Nie Mingjue are dead.
Meng Yao swears it was because he was too late to stop the former from forcing the latter into a fatal qi deviation and he was only able to salvage the situation by killing Wen Ruohan while he was distracted gloating.
(He is, in fact, telling the truth, though there are some that don’t believe it.)
Nie Huaisang is now sect leader at eighteen whether he wants to be or not (and he really doesn't, because it means he can't grieve his da-ge in peace while all the celebrating and rebuilding is going on.)
The two of them meeting up at the victory banquet. (Or re-meeting, rather, since this would use their live drama backstory.)
Newly renamed Jin Guangyao offering his apologies and condolences to the newly ascended Nie-zongzhu.
And getting struck hard by Huaisang’s Tragic Gothic Ingenue Aura in return.
Whatever manipulations his father has in store for the other sects are his own business, Jin Guangyao decides.
But he will be the one to look after the Nie sect and its beautifully grieving new leader.
------------
(this next one is under a cut for implied war prize rape, not by either side of the ship)
Lima/Stockholm syndrome SangYao, either with legitimized Jin Ziyao or fully adopted Wen Yao.
Jin Guangshan throws his sect's lot in with the Wens and the Sunshot Campaign is crushed with both Nies being taken captive.
Wen Ruohan would give Nie Huaisang to Wen Yao as an indulgence.
Jin Guangshan would give Nie Huaisang to Jin Ziyao as an insult.
Either way, he knows that Nie Huaisang is behaving well only so that his brother stays alive, but he can't help finding him endearing anyway and treats him accordingly.
When they first meet, Nie Huaisang has been visibly beaten and barely has any clothing left, which is also damaged. He's barefoot and bound up and clearly terrified.
But Wen Yao/Jin Ziyao (still haven't decided which) notices that he's also paying attention, as in he's committing the faces of each of his abusers to memory without any of them noticing. He finds himself oddly pleased by this revelation, and accepts his "gift" with thanks.
Nie Huaisang doesn't fight him when he finishes the disrobing to heal up his injuries and bathe him, but he's wary and nervous and Wen Yao/Jin Ziyao can feel him shaking, which is more evidence against the guards who'd captured him.
He finds himself thinking that when Nie Huaisang decides to get back at them, perhaps he'll look the other way.
Meanwhile, Nie Huaisang has no idea how to deal with his new jailor. He's been bruised, had bones broken, been starved, and... other things he desperately doesn't want to remember. He knows the only reason he's alive is as a hostage to ensure his brother doesn't try to escape.
And now here's this person speaking to him as if he's a rescued kitten and handling him like he's made of porcelain.
This can't last.
He knows it can't.
It's a ruse, the carrot to the stick.
But Wen Yao/Jin Ziyao continues to treat him like a beloved pet rather than a prisoner. If it weren't for the fact that he can't leave, it would be akin to a courtship.
He isn't even punished when his jailor finds the notes he made for his brother -for the resistance still hitting-and-running at outposts on the edges of the expanded Wen/Jin territories.
What the fuck is going on?
And why is he starting to like it?

♡♡ Cale (anon), if you were a character in a novel, I would ship you with...
'I always getting myself stuck in drama I mean I like drama but I don't want to be in it' sounds like a challenge to make drama /hj
cw slightly nsfw
nie huaisang
Tumblr media
fandom's main sweethearts — a guy who behaves like a crybaby but is the smartest bitch and a guy who teases but at the same time would rather die than step over the threshold of the house. there are so many metas about who is the main abuser in your couple and why your couple is not an abuse and there are even several posts "why does everyone call it problematic when there is nothing problematic? antis now believe that couples is obliged to tell each other only sweet things?? teasing is now an abuse???" "it's not teasing it's BULLYING it's ABUSE"
your dynamic is the most favorite for creating any content. two little blorbos in modern au who are engaged in pinning since no one takes the first step; NIE HUAISANG who needs grounding after his brother's death and he manipulates and pulls strings here and there so that you are always with him, since you are the only thing that now gives him a sense of peace and security; you is probably too fond of NIE HUAISANG and constantly teases him mixed with demands to stay at home with you, but NIE HUAISANG is fine because 'Nie Huaisang Is A Good Friend (he's not a friend)'; mermaid!NIE HUAISANG who is under your supervision and gradually falling in love; princess!NIE HUAISANG, who is very much ok with living with the dragon and no longer wants to get married and rule some state since he can stay with you. the most popular thing is that redesign of the meme 'Ariana Grande Licking a Lollipop' where NIE HUAISANG looks at you while nie mingjue looks out from around the corner. is it cursed? absolutely. just like that ship.
In any case, you would be a wonderful match! NIE HUAISANG is very loyal and adoring for his darling, but prone to long silent pinning, even if this is not what he wants, but not that losing you clumsily confessing his feelings was his desire. You won't find any problems there with your introversion or the quality of a stay-at-home -no, of course, he could try to do something, but why? Your unwillingness to meet someone else only means that the chance of you having someone undesirable is lower, which is only more profitable for NIE HUAISANG — he will indulge your introversion and avoidance of people; he himself has an extremely amazing talent to read people and understand how to interact better to achieve the desired result, and his current the ideal result is your dependence on him as the only one with whom you are socially comfortable.
Do you have any other friends? Not very well, but, fortunately, you won't immediately notice that something is wrong when they become less likely to make contact, and eventually leave you — but you have NIE HUAISANG! And he brought things that give you comfort! And he is always there, soft and warm, tolerating you and giving you peace! And he's so timid, but affectionate and tenacious, but you don't get the feeling that he's suffocating you. His penchant for drama is combined with your sense of humor; he remembered charmingly blushes when you tease him and can portray (staged) tears if he sees that you want to see it. When it comes to emotions, NIE HUAISANG is extremely labile and easily mimicking, looking at your reaction to certain actions (not planned by him at all) and checks how far it can go.
Besides, well, objectively speaking, will you meet an even bigger simp than him? Even if NIE HUAISANG looks like a timid squirrel, innocent and skittish crybaby, he is the type who can kill or be what he needs to be to get what he wants. He has problems coping on his own, often needing outside support, but when NIE HUAISANG chooses a goal, he goes to it, no matter if it's roads or someone's heads, and the fact that you are introverted saves a lot of destinies.
Fortunately, you will quickly get used to your situation — NIE HUAISANG seems like a cute sunshine that always stays with you while others leave, and even if he is clingy and sticky, reacting with delight like a puppy from any of your caresses, he always remains flexible. Especially for your reactions. NIE HUAISANG lives off emotions — yours; as soon as he sees that something causes you more momentum, he goes with it.
You may not be quite sure if you understand the situation correctly when your gentle and soft NIE HUAISANG bites you while fucking on the kitchen table with you because he wants to know something about you about your "friend" or has suspicions that you are thinking about someone else, but that's okay! Really — even when your back is scratched, and there are a few bruises on his body here and there, but not that he has anything to be ashamed of in the house with his husband; or when he squeaks while you're hammering into him after he's behaved like a brat again, provoking you, because never never never your attention is not enough, and if he can, he will force you to look at him and only at him.
mo ran
Tumblr media
problematic. so problematic. everyone looks and says that these are two gremlins biting each other, and that's true — but, apart from that, almost all the works with you contain smut, while those that do not contain just haven't received a chapter with a similar age restriction yet. however, at the same time, this is the thorn where everyone understands that it easily becomes "sharper and darker" in the same way as "lighter and lighter" and tacitly agree that yes, they are fucked up, but how!
you are so different: MO RAN is an aggressive wild extrovert, while you are just as aggressive introvert; he is chatty and bright, while you are silent and muted; after all, he is a dog, while you are a cat, — but damn him if he walks past you without catching on and not realizing that he would do anything to have a chance. MO RAN is the embodiment of 'ride or die', and if he feels an impulse, he goes, no matter how hard you push him away or try to wriggle out, because if the impulse happened, then a chemical reaction happened, and even if he is as dumb as a dog with what is happening on a carnal level, MO RAN is more than familiar.
sexual attraction is established immediately and, even if you are, well, not at all the type who is interested in sex with everyone, MO RAN is a dog who always clearly makes it clear what he wants, and, well, dogs don't treat rejection very well — and it's not about forcing (it's not that bad), but you know that if you don't get the upper hand over the dog, then the dog will get the upper hand over you, and the first stage of your relationship is exactly the period where he is looking for what command you want to give or do nothing, andadjusts in the future depending on this.
although he is an extrovert, MO RAN does not try to force you to go out, quite satisfactorily hiding you in his chest while rest in your house, next to which no one lives — not that he would mind taking his baobei to some restaurant, protecting you like a guardian, but if you do not want, then who is he like that to force you? he may be sexually aggressive, but in decisions he is always more submissive, reacting with aggression only if someone flirts with you — and, even if you are an introvert, you really better not aggravate his mental health, giving all sadistic and cruel tendencies to be outside when he eventually breaks down and knocks out (will kill you if you are not around) someone who will be too persistent.
however, MO RAN is more than good at communication! he is very good at words and can support your jokes or style, and although it will be difficult for you to embarrass him with teasing, he is sensitive to the manifestation of love and willingly wags his tail at it. dark sense of humor cannot confuse him, as well as your straightforwardness or bluntness — MO RAN himself is no better, even if at first he will say that this is obviously not the case, as if he did not specially cook spicy dishes for you for several hours just to show how good he is and say that he did not cook quite for you but since you are here, then you can taste and give him your assessment (and you yourself are no longer sure whether he is flirting or proudly showing off.)
(wow, some sweet pieces! well, he will make you a little, just in case you cry after a spicy meal or something like that, he did not think about you at all during cooking and does not want your cooking, aha...)

Why didn't the murder of Chang Ping cause more shockwaves? Someone murdered in the most cruel way possible the last surviving member of a dreadful case concerning Xue Yang (which JGY believes to be dead), a demonic cultivator (which might get Jiang Cheng's attention), who was presumably executed by the Chief Cultivator precisely for the crime of murdering said Chang clan (so Nie Huaisang may want to snuff out a bit to get dirt on him). Lan "goes where chaos is" Wangji is presumably out of the ice by then, so he might want to take a look as well.
And even after the "investigation" concluded the sword used for the crime was Shuanghua, wouldn't that still cause a lot of talking? The last male disciple of Baoshan Sanren became a dark evil overlord, and if Xiao Xingchen really is the man responsible for this snafu, they might as well start looking for him to make sure he won't cause trouble in the future!
It does seem to have been a pretty massive deal! But I guess there are a few factors here.
Chang Ping had already been pressured into recanting, which I think can't be overlooked as a factor that would have taken the pressure off, first because some people would probably just accept the recantation, and those who were suspicious of it would probably recognize that it happened because somebody pressured him in a very compelling way, and what if they decided to turn that pressure on anyone else who spoke out about the matter? There's also Chang Ping himself turning down the pressure (quote from the wiki, I think from the official translation): "What can I do aside from this? If I don't tolerate it, the rest of our clan's people wouldn't be safe for long. I'm really grateful, Daozhang, but… please don't help me anymore. Now, helping me would be harming me. I don't want the Yueyang Chang Clan to end yet."
So Chang Ping has deliberately turned attention away from the case by the time he's murdered, and presumably brushed off anyone who tried to raise it or help in the interim. Suspicious, obviously, and he doesn't even try to hide it! But see above-- what would happen to anyone else who tried to push?
The fact that it's supposedly Xiao Xingchen does seem like it should be compelling, and I actually do kind of like how the donghua frames the whole thing as this "what the hell, why did Xiao Xingchen murder somebody?" mystery at first. But the fact that he's this wandering rogue cultivator seems really key-- nobody knows where to find him, nobody is responsible for him, and now there's nobody alive to pressure anyone to do anything about it. And then he doesn't seem to cause any further problems, so it's easy to forget.
It's intended in large part, I'd argue, as commentary on the society at large: without someone as blunt and righteous as Nie Mingjue applying pressure, cases like this just... disappear. Xiao Xingchen took revenge on the guy who recanted his accusation on a murder XXC really stuck his neck out to uncover, seems a bit out of character, but oh well, people change. Seems like he got it out of his system, not our problem.
I do think documented Bright Moon and Gentle Breeze stan Lan Wangji of CQL could easily have gone to investigate, but it does seem like this may have been relatively recently after he left seclusion. And honestly one of my favorite performance moments in CQL is how even just talking about this whole situation clearly just makes Lan Wangji so, so sad. At the end of the day, maybe he was showing a bit of side of him that's more like Lan Xichen: he couldn't change it, so he just didn't want to know.

seeing the ask on dee's blog about shana's fic and the cql love triangle (which doesn't exist) was so weird LOL i saw your responses and 100% agree with all of them! It's gotten me to think whether WWX would even be happy with a bunch of different people since everyone else in the fandom is so adamant...
Yeah, sometimes strange things come to our inboxes. I'm glad my salt amused you, I was having a sleepless night and got a little cranky, I won't lie. XD
I don't think there is a single other person that Wei Wuxian would fall in love with in the story. Or rather, there is no person that he could fall for given Lan Wangji's existence in the story.
Wei Wuxian prefers to spend his time with people who are quiet, gentle and fiercely protective of the ones they love, not to mention sharing a moral fiber with him. Wen Qing is almost an exception in that she is very fierce outwardly, but she still has those traits just with added tsundere on top of it. So already a bunch of characters are knocked out of viability for lacking these core traits. Say goodbye to literally every antagonist, plus otherwise decent characters like Lan Xichen, Nie Huaisang and Jin Zixuan.
To contrast this, everyone else besides Lan Wangji is very open in their character. Jiang Yanli, Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui are very consistently gentle quiet souls who he can just sit with and enjoy being with them, but he also knows everything just by looking at them. Lan Wangji hides all of his emotions behind a stoic face which absolutely fascinates and draws him in. He knows that there is more to this stoic boy than what everyone thinks of him and he is fascinated by it! In a sense, they are both somewhat written off and assumed that all of their character is what they present to the world. Wei Wuxian knows that he is much more than a goofy child who takes nothing seriously, so I think he knows the moment that he meets Lan Wangji that it's a similar thing and wants to know who he is under the mask. What with the fact that underneath it Lan Wangji does turn out to have his ideal personality type is basically hook line and sinker for him.
I sort of do and don't ascribe to the concepts of soul mates or someone just for me as I don't think it's likely that there's one singular person in the world that is perfect for you and vice versa, but I do think very much that in fiction that when you are crafting characters for a romance novel, you usually know who and what is going to draw your lead in. There is no one in Modaozushi close enough to what Wei Wuxian admires and falls for in Lan Wangji to meet that standard. Someone could definitely create another character that could come up with that, or find someone in another book that would match his type, but when it comes to the characters only in MDZS, it is only Lan Wangji for him and no one else ever stood a chance.
Plus Wei Wuxian is a huge romantic himself, who else could meet his standards but the boy who wrote him a love song and sang it to him when they were sick and dying alone in a cave?

X!yao fandom is full of ppl who think LXC’s experience on the run gives him a “more open mind” & “greater understanding of the oppressed than NMJ ever had” but in fact NMJ’s narrative is not only a something like a class & disability narrative but also about a young man who had to take on a lot of responsibility at an early age. He has a slightly better grasp of the situation around JGY than LXC bc LXC is more sheltered in a lot of ways & still has Lan Qiren to help him.
Lan Xichen has the benefit of someone always being there to take care of him and it shows. Lan Qiren was pseudo Sect Leader Lan for Qingheng-jun and remains pseudo Sect Leader Lan for Lan Xichen. Thus, the world is safe and the people are good and well-meaning. He is open-minded in that he has the privilege of not feeling unsafe, thus he is not quick to (ever) condemn, but he's not open-minded in that he seeks reality or truth.
The only person Lan Xichen ever condemns is Wei Wuxian, because Wei Wuxian hurt his little brother's feelings.
It is Nie Mingjue, not Lan Xichen, who stands up to the Jin regarding Xue Yang and his mass murder of the people.
Lan Xichen has a “greater understanding of the oppressed than NMJ ever had”? That is very funny lol
Nie Mingjue is and has been Sect Leader Nie this whole time. He has a more reserved personality and we're told he isn't close to many people, so we see him often doing things and tackling problems by himself. He is a big brother to Nie Huaisang and then a big brother to two more, with the added burden of trying to guide them on the right path even when they won't listen. So he has to pay attention and look for warning signs. People are counting on him. Nie Mingjue has to be observant for their sake as well as his.
Nie Mingjue is stubborn at times, but his mind is perfectly open, thank you. How else would the poisoned music have gotten in?

The Untamed, episode 45 - watching notes
I'm at this stage of fandom rn where it's really hard to concentrate on anything else 😅
Every song I listen to gets dissected for how it relates to wangxian
I need to concentrate on my thesis but instead I'm pondering how the untamed raises questions about collectivism vs individualism and how my western perception of that might differ greatly from a native chinese person or even the author's intention
Can't I just write my thesis about THAT?
Alas, I digress ...
Back to our regular programming :D
Last time one Sophie watches the untamed wwx went all Sherlock on us and used his formidable skills of deduction to expose Backpfeifengesicht's plan of killing everyone and blaming it on wwx
I've heard from several people that the next few episodes are their favourites, so no high expectations at all :D
Nobody wipes the blood on their chins away. Might be about the aesthetic
I adore detective-duo-wangxian so much!! Especially because wwx does 99% of the talking but then lwj will chime in with a single word and it's 100% devastating :D
If anyone knows any well written case-fics for these two, please, I need recs! (For after the show)
Backpfeifengesicht makes good one point and that is that jgy already is at the top of the cultivation world. So what does he gain from all this?
Or is it simply that he's afraid of wwx because he's a rebel and might act against him? (Don't answer that. I wanna find out through the show ;))
Wwx just casually revealed that he's been to cloud recess and that he handles went to the restricted section forbidden chamber. What will you do about, Lan Qiren? Huh? 😂
Oooh! Backpfeifengesicht is the ghosted faced man! I thought it was Jiggy himself!!! 😱
That makes way more sense though!
Lan Sizhui! Jin Ling! Oh you brave boys! 😭
Tumblr media
Someone hold me 😭
But why does he not take zidian now? He's done so before!
"You little fool!" Is "I love you" in Jiang-Cheng-speak :D
"We're done for! What can we do??" - wwx *strips*
Tumblr media
Sorry
Bahahaha 😂😂😂
I just burst out laughing waaay to loudly for the fact that I've got people sleeping in the room next to mine
But look at Lan Qiren when he sees wwx strop to reveal anat is probably his nephew's undershirt 😂😂😂
Tumblr media
He's probably questioning every decision that's let him to this point :D
Tumblr media
This is completely inconsequential, but I couldn't keep quiet about it anymore because I every time he makes this motion, it always sends a shiver down my spine!!! Notice that wwx (or rather Xiao Zhan) is one of these people whose fingers bend in the opposite direction??? I know it's just a normal thing some people can do, but I can't watch it!! It makes my fingers hurt just looking at it 🙈🙈🙈
Is he turning himself into a demon lure flag?? 😱
Lan Jingyi 🥺🥺🥺
Also does wwx now just transfer his self-sacrificing tendencies to lwj?
Nothing is as hot as these two together in a fight scene
Jiang Cheng doesn't want to leave them behind. He does care! :') he just never unlearned how to unravel his love from his anger
Sizhui running up to greet his dads :')
Tumblr media
Look at them! I'm soft guys 💔
He called him Yuan!! 😭😭😭
So this is it. Any doubts I ever had about Sizhui's identity are gone
Will he finally recognize him??
Why don't you say anything lwj? This one time, I beg you!!
Sect Leader Yao still at his gossip shit even 16 years later 🙄
Lam sizhyi is seasick! Why is this so cute! 😭
Oh Wen Ning!! He recognized A-Yuan? Right?
I want to hug Lan Sizhui for his openness and kindness towards everyone he meets, no matter their status or what other people say about them! (Wen Ning now or who he thought was Mo Xuanyu the supposed mad-man) and I wanna hug lan Wangji right after for raising him to be like this :')
Oh Wen Ning! 😭
That's how I'd look at Sizhui, too, if I met him - poor unadulterated wonder :')
And just think about what that means for Wen Ning! He's not the last of the Wens! All their fight wasn't for nothing. This child, their legacy, survived 😭😭😭
"Can I call you A-Yuan" "Of Course." God I'm gonna burst into tears 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm actually bursting into tears!!
Isn't this the dream of anyone who has ever lost someone? :')
"He's like a brother and father to me" :')
And he raised him from when he was 4 or 5? So ... A-Yuan was about 2 when the Wens died? Right? Then 5 would fit with lwj's 3 year isolation
Ob god, it's the butterfly-toy!!! 😭😭😭
Wen Nings smiling through his tears! I can't! 😭💔And he's got the one from the market!
Aww, wax isn't wearing the white undergarment anymore. Too bad
Oh poor Jin Ling ...
So much grieve that he could probably never process. There so many lost kids in this story, hurt by things they had no control over 😔
I mean, I get it. That's the person who killed his parents (without being in control, but he doesnt know that) and everyone is just talking to him as if it's normal and that didn't happen. But he can't forget, but he doesnt really understand either and he has no outlet. Of course he'd just ... crash 😥
And who would have thought I'd ever try at a flashback of Jin Zixuan's death :(
For once, it'd be nice if the adults actually acted like the parent figures they're supposed to be and explain things to their children 🤦‍♀️
I'm so thankful though, that no one even thinks of scolding him for crying. Jismg Cheng only asked who it was that made him cry (and looks like he'll kick their ass). Generally, thus show has a very healthy attitude towards tears. Most characters cry when they are faced with tragedy, regardless of gender. Men being allowed to have appropriate reactions to grieve (instead of a single men tear or just punching things) is really nice to see
Oh Yao dude whose courtesy name I can't remember, shut up!
Tumblr media
Thanks Ouyang Zizhen! You get me
I live for these children standing up to their elders
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Nie Huaisang is just on the sidelines, enjoying the show :D never change!
The Lotus Pier theme song alone is making me cry rn 😢
Why can't wen Ning come in?
Oh Sizhui!
He many times do you want to make me cry happy tears today?? :')
Little turnip-baby ❤
Tumblr media
But why doesn't lwj say anything ??? 😭
Lan Wangji raised A-Yuan smong a bunch of rabbits??? 😭
Now he's a turnip baby with a taste for carrots, how cute is that? :')
Holy shit, wwx and lwj are really joined at the hip these days of lwj won't enter the hall if wwx isn't allowed to :D
Lwj 😑 "no misbehaviour"
Someone. Knows. Their. Husband.
Okay sorry, but as painful as these cuts must have been and yes, while you do see scars on this prostitute's face, they in no way warrant these horrified gasps as of they had all seen a monster 🙄
Xue yang. Fancy seeing you here in this not at all disturbing sub-plot 😬
Okay that's creepy. That's really creepy
Shouldn't Jin Guangyao have a bit more compassion for these women?
On the other hand, he was born to menacingly stand behind a curtain 🤷‍♀️
W. T. F. ????
Jin Guangshan??? o___O
That's the most skin we've ever seen on this show and it's in a scene like THIS? 😬
THIS IS HOW JIN GUANGSHAN DIED? 😱😱😱
How?
How can you die from sex?
And then jgy made them keep going?
UGH
These poor women :/
So there's someone who set her free on purpose, right?
Bicao has really interesting eyes!
Oh wait, took me some time to catch up. This is about Quin Su and why she killed herself, right?
WHAT??
They were siblings o_O
They just went full game of thrones on this ...
Hey Jin Guangshan, screw you for raping that woman
Wait, is that why jgy had him die like THAT?
I'm so confused about how that happened btw
But why would Jin Guangyao merry quin su anyway? Was this some kind of political marriage that he couldn't call off?
This episode answered some of my questions but raised about a dozen more 😅
@sweetlittlevampire @fandom-glazed @elenirlachlagos @allhailthedramallama @luckymoony @kyrrahbird @i-love-him-on-purpose
5 episodes to go. I'm both happy because I can't wait to brows the untamed tag without looking for spoilers and extremely sad 🥺
Right now I'm planning to watch one episode each day until friday and then watch the last two on Saturday, hopefully quite early, so I can spend the rest of the day crying my eyes out over it, without having to worry about such trivial things as being a functioning adult or a responsible student 😅

the scars you got for me, by Rosylla
“Can you take off your clothes?” he asks impulsively.
Lan Zhan’s eyes widen.
“I mean! I mean that brand…can I touch it? I really want to touch it. I- fuck, that sounds even more-”
“Yes,” says Lan Zhan and gets on the bed beside him, clearing some of the talismans carefully to make space. He undoes the robe, then takes off the undershirt. Then he sits there, expectant.
Good god.

Finally he cannot take it anymore. "Well, we should get going, either way!" Whatever transpired between them, the day is burning away. "Do you remember Guanyin Temple, Lan Zhan? Even if you don’t, we must get there as soon as possible."
He expects a fight. Maybe Lan Zhan only remembers as far as their search after Nie Mingjue’s body parts. Lan Zhan thinks they’re in the middle of some night hunt, so —
"I do remember Guanyin Temple," Lan Wangji says slowly. He reaches out as if to touch Wei Wuxian’s face, and then his hand falls away. "Do you?"
*
Wei Wuxian wakes up the morning after the bathtub incident. (Or is it?)

"Ah, poor Lan-er-gongzi. Breaking her sister's engagement wasn't enough for Wei-guniang, she had to betray her own intended!"
In which Wei Wuxian ditches the cultivation world, Lan Wangji goes grocery shopping, Lan Sizhui narrates his parents' love story, and Nie Huaisang is the only one who knows what's really going on. Prompt fic!

Five times someone discovers Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji’s golden bond and one time they tell someone.
Duet, by ChalionKat
"Who is it they want me to duet with?”
“No,” Lan Wangji said.
Unsurprisingly, this did not close the conversation. Xichen followed him into the rehearsal room.
“Wangji, you need to do something. Your sales have been solid until now, but never spectacular, and now they’re declining. The label is concerned. They’re threatening to pull funding unless you do something to bring in new audiences.”
“To ‘sex myself up’, you mean,” Lan Wangji said, not even attempting to hide his distaste.
______________________
Musicians AU
Relentless, by nirejseki
“Why are we even here?” Wen Xu groused.
“Yeah! That’s right! Why are we here?” Wen Chao immediately chimed, very obviously taking his cues from his elder brother – much to the latter’s irritation, judging by his immediate scowl.
Lan Qiren knew that he needed to pick his next words very carefully. With recalcitrant students, a teacher only had a few opportunities to really connect with them. If he allowed them to dismiss him or categorize him as an enemy at this early stage, it would be an incredibly uphill battle to gain enough respect in order to teach them anything, and in this case, given the strength of their background and the fact that this little teaching session was both likely to be short and definitely completely unauthorized, it would quite possibly make it completely impossible to ever get through to them.
“You are here,” Lan Qiren said solemnly, each word slow and thoughtful, “because your father is an ass.”
(a story of kidnapping and falling in love, reluctantly)

Here's an idea I have for a possible Jiang Cheng/Nie Huaisang/Wen Qing poly fic, CQL-verse mostly
Back in GusuLan, NHS was crushing hard on his friend JC but said nothing about it, JC had his crush on WQ, and WQ was too busy worrying about the stuff with her uncle to even think about the handsome boys and girls around the sect. After Gusu, however, when NHS & JC end up 3rd and 4th wheeling WangXian on their field trip to the fairy statue, NHS & JC & WQ bond a little over being stuck in a cage surrounded by fierce corpses/puppets, but it's mostly friendly
Then comes the Indoctrination Camp. When WQ returns from the xuanwu cave, upset that she couldn't do anything to help JC et al without putting her and her brother at risk, she comes to an NHS who has been in the infirmary the whole time pretending to be sicker than he really is. WQ is tasked with getting him healthy again. After he's returned to his rooms and she's no longer 'in charge' of his care, she sneaks to find him and helps him escape in a way that wouldn't indicate her involvement - if she couldn't help the other disciples, at least she could help this one. NHS is torn because of his family's history with the Wen, but he declares he owes her a debt for her help.
Canon happens, Lotus Pier burns, and the Jiang sibs end up at WQ's supervisory office with a JC who's traumatized after being tortured and having his core crushed. And then WWX looks at WQ's research and has his idea to give JC his core without his knowledge/consent.
Unlike in canon, WQ decides she needs someone to help talk WWX out of it, so she sends a secret message to NHS asking for his help stopping WWX from doing something very, very stupid - this would pay his debt to her. NHS sneaks away from Qinghe to get to the supervisory office (I say as if it's not a trek that takes several days' travel on horseback), using some excuse so his brother won't worry he's leaving safety in the middle of a war (if anyone could pull it off, it's NHS). NHS reunites with his friends and is stunned at JC's condition, then helps WQ talk WWX out of giving up his core for JC.
Then NHS talks to WQ in private and asks... would any core do? Does it have to be a strong one like WWX's, or could it be a weaker one that JC could develop as he wishes? She glares at him, and NHS counters with "It's not like I'm using mine *anyway*... but would it hurt?" WQ actually concludes that a weaker core would actually be simpler to transfer and be more likely to be accepted, and though it will hurt, it will be manageable. WQ agrees to the idea in theory... but NHS has 2 more demands if he's to go through with it. #1 she and her brother need to defect from the Wen (when WQ mentions the rest of the family in Dafan, he says bring them too), and #2 that once the war is over, he needs a doctor of her brilliance to look into the qi deviation issue for her family, and he asks that she fulfill those promises even if he doesn't survive the procedure. She eventually agrees.
They go to JC and NHS fudges the truth a little, says they have a way to help him based upon some super secret Qinghe Nie techniques that they can't share with JC because they're sect secrets but will hopefully help him get a new core. JC... well, he can't say no to them even though he tries. He goes to sleep, and wakes up feeling a little more whole and himself... then sees in a neighbouring bed NHS sleeping and looking pale.
Can NHS keep a secret? Yes. Will he keep this secret? Hell no! After they're both awake with WQ in the room (she figures he won't tell a thing), NHS reveals what they really did and that JC now has NHS' core. JC is PISSED at first, but NHS gives him the puppy eyes, and the "I wasn't using it anyway, Jiang-xiong", and when JC yells too loud, NHS places a hand over where his core used to be and winces...
Anyone else love the movie White Christmas? There's a running gag in the movie because the one guy saved the other's life in the war cuz he'd pushed him out of the way of a falling building and got injured for it. For the rest of the movie, whenever he wants his friend to do something, he places his hand on the injury and grimaces as a reminder of what he did. Yeah, that's what NHS will do from this moment until the day they die, milking it for ALL IT'S WORTH.
So WQ & WN get their family out of of the Wen and meet the others in Qinghe. They go to the Unclean Realm, NMJ is PISSED at his brother doing something so foolish and ridiculouos - even if a part of him is ridiculously proud his brother was willing to make a sacrifice like that for someone he cared for - and the Wen are accepted as refugees.
The war happens differently - no demonic cultivator WWX, JC's core is weaker (but he works it harder than NHS ever would have - in a few years it will be to his normal strength) - but through it all, this new bond has been forged between JC, NHS, & WQ, because she checks on them both frequently because of their surgeries, giving her plenty of opportunities to feel them up observe them carefully.
And then the war is over, and everyone struggles to find a new 'normal'. WQ is working in Qinghe on the qi deviation issue, her and NHS get even closer, but both miss JC like hell, and him them.
Then JGS starts causing trouble. He's taken over managing the Wen prisoners like in canon and a starts making comments about WQ & WN and how they're being housed/protected by QHN and should pay for the Wens' damaging of other sects. NHS realizes something needs to be done, a more tangible way of protecting them - he gets WQ & JC to talk to him and suggests a marriaged between them to protect everyone (NHS has also not been blind to the growing attraction between the two). They eventually agree... though JC & WQ come to realize they miss having NHS around. After 3zun happens, they have the 'brilliant' idea of requesting a connection to Qinghe Nie, since the Jiang were not a part of 3zun and would like closer bonds to the other sects (JYL will get back with JZX and WWX will end up with LWJ, so those are taken care of).
They marry (WQ wife, NHS concubine) for 'political reasons', but they're all into each other, and figure that out and do something about it after everything has been settled. JGS wanted to fight about it, but he had no more justification.
So yeah, them's the bare bones of the idea. Any thoughts? I'd also be up to sharing the idea/universe with anyone who'd want to write in it - i'd be most likely to write just some nice fluffy piece after all the shit went down rather than the detailed "how everything came to be", if only to have NHS using being core-less to justify being wonderfully lazy in the gorgeous Lotus Pier :D
