Tutoring Yuji is an effortless task; he hunches over the desk, his eyes honed in on your pen as it moves to write another equation while his head nods incessantly as you try your best to recite another simplified explanation.

“Does it make any sense now?” You ask him, putting down your pen next to your notebook.

Yuji’s eyes dart from the paper to look at your timid smile, “Yeah, I think I get it now.” He glances at the papers and textbooks spread out on the table.

“Good then,” You sigh, feeling the relief wash over your body, “I’m off to the bathroom for a moment, so why don’t you solve..” You turn a few pages in the textbook and point to an intermediate-level exercise at the top of the paper, “This?”

As you turn to leave, he lifts his head and locks eyes with you, giving you a resolute nod; as you move towards the door, you catch a faint sound - a quiet sigh that is barely audible over the rustle of papers and the hum of the air conditioning.

“Fushiguro.” Yuji whispers to his friend, who sits a few desks away engrossed in his studies, “Fushiguro!”

“What?” The dark-haired boy snapped, lamenting the loss of focus in his book.

Yuji holds his textbook over his head, pointing at the cover, "I don't get it."

"What do you mean you don't get it?" Megumi squints at the book, "Then why were you nodding for the past half an hour?"

Yuji's eyes dart to the floor as he slowly and shamefully places the textbook back on the desk, "I don't want her to think I'm stupid." He murmurs.

"What are you talking about, Itadori?" Megumi sighs, burying his gaze back in his book, "She already thinks you're stupid. That's why she's tutoring you."

"Alright! Let's get back to it," you exclaim from the doorway, returning to the desk where Yuji sits, pressing the palms of his hands to his frustrated expression.

"Yuji?" you anxiously place a hand on his shoulder, "Are you okay?"

"He's fine," Megumi chimes, "He just didn't understand anything, and now he's afraid you'll think he's stupid."

"Fushiguro!" The chair squeaks under Yuji as he stands up, knocking your hand off his shoulder, "Traitor." He mumbles.

Yuji turned to you with a defeated look, his fingers running through his vibrant pink hair. "I'm really sorry for wasting your time," he said regretfully, "You don't have to tutor me anymore."

"What are you talking about, Yuji?" Your voice wavers slightly when you take your hand in his, watching a deep blush settle on his cheeks, "We're just starting out."

Yuji really giving out Black Flashes like candy (as he should, I'm here for it always) and Sukuna is like "is he really trying to be equal to me"!

You know what's hilarious about this?

Knowing Yuji, he actually probably doesn't give a damn about being on his level. He just wants him gone. Sukuna, I'm sorry, but you ain't fighting someone trying to prove his worth to you. You're fighting someone who wants you dead.

This reminds me of how some of the fandom are so adamant about throwing powerscaling into the mix, sometimes to even bash Yuji when Yuji is a character who isn't into all that "I want to be the best" bullcrap.

And why should he be?? THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING AND YOU REALLY THINK THIS KID IS GOING TO CARE ABOUT SURPASSING OTHERS FOR THE #1 SPOT?!

Can't even acknowledge all what he's done before up until this point... too busy bashing him and now wanting to switch up like this kid ain't been a menace since day one... well... in his middle school days...

This image right here is the perfect illustration of the difference between Yuuji and Yuuta, it almost feels like a 4th wall break.

Yuuji has been working real hard ever since he became a sorcerer, he's survived hellish situation after hellish situation, lost so many people he cared about. And he made tremendous progress.

Yuuta was born with a hereditary ridculously overpowered technique and immense amounts of cursed energy. His playground girlfriend died and that was traumatic especially that she stayed with him and hurt people on his behalf even though he didn't want her to. But once he became a sorcerer that got very quickly resolved. Yuuta miraculously learned every technique he needed in the moment to save his friends, or cure them and himself, or to win against his enemies by just overpowering them. And then he killed Kenjaku without putting any work of his own into that.

So yeah, Yuuji has worked hard and persevered and has been disrespected and ignored for it both in the story and by the fandom. Yuuta's been given everything, even techniques and page time of other characters and congratulated for it.
