#at some point i wanted to make an illustration for each character but in retrospect maybe each is multiple song-coded..#drew the sketch for a quincy thing after a chat with a mutual reminded me this song existed dfsghjkl and then spent weeks rendering this #quincy cynthius martin #adamandi #i'm finally done with this! the saints especially were joys to paint and the halo a menace.... this has been the most ambitious one so far.#but it also took quite long because i only worked on it <engages with quincy> when mentally okay to deal with the themes. i'm not religious #but i do identify with the irrational(?ish) guilt + family legacy + academic achievement + disregard for self. also more complex thoughts #about love [but depsite quincent being a large part of quincy's character this piece deals with mostly the Rest of it. so another time..]#anyways! in the original sketch- the saints had heads bent towards quincy so the halo spikes pointed at him. but this worked better! halos #of the saints implying/creating one for quincy was a concept from the start though. in the show they don't touch him directly here but #differences in mediums i think- i don't have time in an image to craft a narrative so everything has to be happening. also artistic liberty #misc inspiration for this includes stained glass windows. i might have maybe misinterpreted the saint costume but i think i logic-ed it out #as the cloth part following a nun's habit w the hood. and then halo above. the material is also more transparent originally but i had. um.#too much fun painting fabric folds.. if you look closely you can see the basis of faces though behind the cloth; but only the vague shapes #because smth obscurity + inhumanness// cassian is the only one i gave a mouth though. that stems from melliot's post about the saints and #st cassian as spokesperson (<- did research teehee!) that's also how i found out which costume = which saint. speaking of which.#left to right: 'st lucy take my hand' // 'st lawrence give me strength' (presses quincy forward; but hand on shoulder connotates guidance)#/'st cassian help me smile' (quincy's mouth is btwn a grimace and a smile; tilts up at side. also no direct touch bc added insidiousness.)#//'st jude [...] i hope your causes burn' (jude's hand is in two places to show movement- nearing the flame and then snatching back; burnt)#other notes: at the midst of the flame the core is shaped like a human heart /the saints and their wax are all melting like the candle for #fun visual effect and also this way they are even less tangible <real>. perks of painting as a medium i guess. // also insp from icarus?#wax and burning imagery; looking at the halo and rays as parallel to sun that burns. too close to the sun; melting; hurting; hurtling //#candles at bottom are a nod to the frankly gorgeous set// also the entire composition kind of stems from the lyric <what use is a candle if #both ends aren't burning>; the two sides between the concepts of catholic guilt and academic perfection that spur quincy #the halo above (saints and guilt; litanyofthemartyrs) and the 'halo' below (academic papers; insp from choreo for perfect at school)#the papers were originally supposed to be more glowy. but i like the idea of it now being a reflection of how quincy's priorities shift #also of note is that <candle> in centre = quincy; w burning candle + aforementioned heart in flame -> most human; idea of love + passion #last thoughts: kneeling + hands close tgt = prayer //wax dripping onto the red As make an effect that looks like blood. because i like #hiding that within the adamandi pieces :OO continuity!! // i've run out of tags but yeah! had fun with this one! every so often i go a #little insane in making art and the final result astounds even me. ngl i'm quite proud of this one. pretty colours <3333

Anyone's sent today's Wolverine issue to Brevoort yet? You know since he keeps on yapping how the throuple is lacking evidence especially in recent issues LOL. This is exactly what the starving throuple fans deserved. It's not EVERYTHING of course, because this is still Marvel, but you can read it however you like and they didn't just retcon it from orbit as was at some point rumored. These panels make me mighty emotional, and now I'm ready to write ALL the throuple and scogan things for pride month :D.

Sometimes I think there are certain parts of Wolf 359 that feel so familiar to me that I almost forget what they are like the first time round.

Like, I've just been thinking about how in the finale, after Minkowski gets shot, we don't hear any noise from her all through Cutter's gloating speech. We hear her gasp as the bullet hits and the show immediately cuts away to a different scene. Then when we rejoin the confrontation with Cutter, we don't hear Minkowski make any noise - not even a groan of pain or a laboured breath - for over a minute. And because it's an audio drama, this means that we don't have any direct indication of just how injured she is, of whether she's fully conscious, of whether she's even still alive. Lovelace's reactions can't tell us much while she's struggling against Cutter's control. And I wouldn't put it past Cutter to gloat to someone unconscious.

The first noise we do hear Minkowski make after being shot in the stomach - the first proof we have that she's still with us - is her gathering her strength and declaring "Renée Minkowski... and that is more than enough to kick your ass!", before punching Cutter. Which is always an incredibly powerful moment. But there's a particular power to it when it also serves as the reveal that Minkowski is still conscious and able to put up resistance. The moment when she asserts her ownership of her own identity feels almost like a moment of rising from the potentially-dead.

#Wolf 359 #w359 #I think it's an intentional choice as well #The sound design in this show is always intentional #and realistically a person who has just been shot could well make a lot of pained noises #It's a kind of restraint that they don't do that #I'm banging my 'unique power of audio drama' drum again and always #You can't really do things like this in other mediums in the same way #Of course the camera can avoid showing a character or you can avoid describing what state they are in #but that's conspicuous in a way that this isn't #In those cases you feel like something is being deliberately kept from you #but in this kind of scene it feels more like the information you're after just isn't accessible to you #so the uncertainty has a different feel to it #Anyway. I can't fully remember #but I think when I first heard that gunshot I did think she might be dead #The moment of 'Isabel. Shoot her' . gunshot. Going through the detention pieces notes with a pal, and we didn't even get halfway through and were up to 36 different ships/otps, and an abundence of queer pair-up projections and I kinda think that's a beautiful thing. Reverse DL-6 where the gun Miles threw aimed just a liiiitle differently and ended up shooting Von Karma dead. Because apparently nobody on the DL-6 case was at all competent they can’t figure out what caused his death so it just gets ruled a suicide. Miles is too loopy from oxygen deprivation to remember throwing the gun and due to his dad still being alive he never gets the trauma nightmares that make him remember. Everything is objectively better for everyone until Franziska von Karma, years later, re-opens the case, and because she’s actually competent, figures out it must’ve been one of the three people in the elevator who shot him. Cue Defense Attorney Miles Edgeworth defending his dad from a murder charge that, honestly, really looks quite plausible.

#cats #THE VET says they are a healthy weight. they are just huge and also look really large in certain photo angles #I know they both look so round lol.. which is cute but I don't want anyone to think I'm overfeeding them intentionally/negligently because #''chonky cat cute hee hee'' or whatever. i would not sacrifice their health for aesthetics. they're fine. they just Look Like That lol #funnily enough George (the brown one) actually is the only one that needs to loose a tiny bit of weight (he's like.. half a pound or so over #the ideal weight but is not obsese or anything). Noodle (the grey one) is of perfectly fine weight but he's the one that #always looks like a complete orb in photos hhjh.. Naturally Round Body Shape #I think it's also that they have like.. medium fur??#they're not long haired cats but they are REALLY fluffy and thick coated compared to other short haired cats #I've seen. like my friends and relative's short hair cats usually have shorter hair than my cats so it's weird #if that's even a thing.. but they LOOK like shorthair cats but also have thicker coats than other cats so I think theyre sometimes kind of #fluffed up more than they look like they'd be. especialy their back and side fur. their chest fur and fur on the top of their #head is really short but some of their back furs are nearly 2 inches long strands and etc. etc.#ANYWAY... love when they sit in similar positions

oh btw having a "natural seat" on horseback basically means you balance well and move naturally with the horse

#you don't want to be stiff or too floppy. you have to basically make your own movement an extension of the horse's #I think I surprise people a lot bc I have short legs and I'm very stocky which isn't the typical body type/structure for riders #most of them -- in English riding at least which is what I did for a long time -- are leggier and more medium weight to skinny #and I was a problem student a lot of times bc my legs are short enough that fitting stirrups was a hassle sjfksnfksjgs #but anyway I have been told I have good seat and I'm pretty proud of that. though I imagine I definitely did Not at first lol

[personal and vaguely unnecessary whining underneath, just a bunch of undigisted and personal thoughts about my problems with Creation and Art that mostly just concern myself, but here they are anyway woooo!!!!]

feeling some kind of way about having to concede my artistic calling truly is in fanwork, but, yeah. all of my creative energy really tends towards fanwork, and like. not even the popular kind really, but the long, cerebral, pretentious kind of fanwork that is impossibly costly to produce yet comes with an inherently very limited audience at the end of the road. but every time I try to do something else, something "original", I get frustrated and I feel like I have nothing to say, or that what I have to say isn't really worth saying/that I'm only kind of doing this out of fear of being perceived as illegitimate rather than because of actual passion. I have original ideas, but I don't even really like most of them. it's weird, to have your inner creative fire being so intricately connected to something you will never have legal control over, something you can't really show off/take actual pride in, and something that is, by and large, decried as a waste of talent or time or proper artistic merit.

but yeah, it's the shape of my brain. it's what it is. I'm just not sure how to connect this reality to the rest of my creative/career frustrations. weird place to be, don't love that my brain chose to be like this honestly.

Little rant about my friend and consuming media lmao

Ok how do you consume media and still have NO IDEA who even the main character's name is? I recommended tma and bsd to a friend - well he started both. I ask him about it - like who his favourite character is or what he thinks of it - and he's so.... Confused almost? Like he just shrugged and said that he actually had no idea what was going on - which ok is kinda fair with bsd but like. you know the characters at least. Each one of them is introduced in some dramatic way, you can't MISS any of that and surely there's at least one character that gets your attention/that you relate to/that you find interesting. I mean ok maybe you forget the name or sth, but you at least remember the characters when I describe them to you, right? But no, my friend had no idea who for example Dazai was - DAZAI?! Like. What???? Or Atsushi.. the fucking main character???? Or chuuya???? Or - anyone??? I was so perplexed. How can you watch something and still have no idea about what you're watching?

The same happened with tma. I recommended it, he listened to the first few episodes. I asked him what he thought of Jon. HE DIDN'T KNOW WHO JON WAS I MEAN WHAT???? Oh idk he's just the guy reading the fucking statements. Before every statement he says "audio recording by Jonathan Sims" like how can you... miss that?

Idk, am I just consuming media so intensely or is he just... I don't even know.... Disinterested in engaging with the media one is consuming? It's not even that he doesn't like it. I asked him and he said it was good. But what exactly does he find good when he has no idea about. like. anything.

#there's probably a happy medium and a lot of nuance to be had but i do realize that the internet is a No Nuance Space these days so #i guess my thing is:#yes i agree we shouldn't glorify playing through injuries #no i don't think they care what fans think one way or another lol #it's just that it's very much baked into the culture; hockey is about Sacrifice and Team and Pushing Through Pain #and i know none of you like to admit it but that IS part of what makes hockey so appealing. it's doing a lot for the Narratives!#anyway probably the real way to get a mindset shift is to frame playing through injury as selfish rather than selfless #and i WOULD like to see more of that.#i just think the way some people on hockey twt and tumblr speak on players' injuries is very odd lol #like you are not in charge of their bodies. they are. you don't get to sanctimoniously declare when someone should retire or whatever lol #you will never know their body and their situation in the way they themselves do. not to mention their top notch care teams!#just rubs me the wrong way when people act like players' bodies belong to them lol. which is genuinely the way some folks act around here
