OC Aesthetics for the Entities
I was tagged by @deputyash for this tag game! Thank you for the tag, friend!😊 Since this is long, we'll just stick to Iris 'cuz she's the spookiest of my ocs (intentionally)~
Rules: Bold what applies to your muse, italics what applies situationally or only in certain verses. Rest of the fears here. This is based on a horror podcast; potentially triggering and / or upsetting content ahead!
Tagging @thefathersbride @nightwingshero @dolphinitley @alexxmason @casino-lights @chazz-anova @teamhawkeye and anyone else who may see it, here's your go-ahead to do it~
Tumblr media
(Picture by @decertatio, I still look at this portrait all the time~)
i.  THE BURIED.  weighted blankets.  drowning.  the comfort of a loved one’s weight. soil & sand piling on top of you. hugging so hard it hurts a little. cramped hiding spots.  letting out air underwater to sink to the bottom of the pool.  walls pressing in on you. not moving from a position even though you’re cramping a little.  dragging the last second before you have to inhale. lonely subways.  feeling like one with the earth.  a layer of dirt on you. looking for something below.  cardboard boxes & tiny pillow forts.  hands calloused from digging.  knowing that your purpose is just below the surface. entering your final resting place before it kills you.  a storm drowning you out.  dust & sand speaking to you.
ii.  THE CORRUPTION. insects.  a close imitation of the natural course of life. an illness in a community. a rag that dirties more than it cleans.  an untreated wound.  containment.  breaching containment.  unbreathable air. fungi.  one with that you love.  one with what loves you.   a corpse unfit for a glass case.  hearing a song in the sound of tiny wings & legs.  honeycomb patterns.  an ecosystem within a person.  a curse passed on.  the hubris of a scientist.  an ugly death where a glorious one is owed. blood on a handkerchief.  parasites.  something pushing up the sewer.  a mask to keep something out.  trypophobia.  knowing you belong.  death weeks after impact.  fever. food that’s gone off. pandora’s box.   death behind a glass.
iii.  THE DARK. shadows. lights that turn off by themselves.  the feel of cold marble.  a beaked creature in the night. the difference between seeing darkness & seeing nothing. touch of something you can’t see.  hiding under a blanket.  white, clouded eyes. months without going outside during sunlight. pouring dark. unscrewing lightbulbs. black matter. light sensitivity. a starless night.  time before light was created.  a shadow on the wall without a body to attach to. withering plants.  a world without a sun.  footfalls in an empty house in the night.  a light that doesn’t reach as far as it should.  desperate reach for a flashlight.  clothes that hide your shape.  staying unperceivable.  winter months in the north.  an empty church.
iv.  THE DESOLATION. senseless pain.  warmth of faith. wax where skin should be. a blazing fire.  heat without a source. the third or fourth tragedy in the family. losing everything you’ve ever held dear. so much to live for,  gone so soon.  the smell of gasoline.  touch that scars. coffee cup that never goes cold. scorch marks on wood. inescapably warm air. a child born in fire.  death of a loved one.  a candle without a flame.  an altar in the middle of the woods.  animals with burnt fur.  plastic explosives. burning hot metal.  sweating in an interrogation room.  never touching a loved one. disfigurement. kiss that ruins you.  the scent of burning fat. a tattoo that terrifies its viewer.  the agony of hellfire displayed as art.  auburn hair.  little clothing in cold weather.  a ripple in the air.  trying to cool down in vain.
v.  THE FLESH. body horror. factories. a hunger for something more filling. never quite happy with how you look. the terror of an animal waiting for slaughter. a very good meal. the liquid of a perfect steak. fighting your worst survival instincts. a twisted bone. long nights working out.  more than one heart.  appearance that shapes like clay. a bag of bones. bone broth in a pot.  knowing to fear pigs.   the butcher’s shop. plastic surgery.  something alien inside your body. a hunger in the gaze laid upon you. unwitting cannibalism. forgetting what you used to look like. being admired for your appearance & appearance only.  teeth marks on skin. scars from wounds that should’ve killed you.  cooking in scarcity. fenced in with one way to go.
vi.  THE END. the last page of a book.  nightmares that don’t feel like nightmares.  a skeletal hand.  the grip of the grim reaper around your throat. existential pain.  ivory dice.  flatlining in a hospital.  gambling with death.  as old as the universe.  soul & spirit tied to an object.  a dream where you die. closing your eyes for the last time. the pleas of a dying one.  knowing the fate of someone you know & being unable to prevent it.  a thousand cords tugging you towards your end.  skin that’s freezing to the touch.  an act of desperation. someone’s life for yours. an eternity spent alive. the cost of your selfishness.  watching your own burial.  causing your own burial.  the smell of death. numbness to fear.  words from someone gone. meaninglessness of the actions or lives of single people in the universe.  multiple near-death experiences you refuse to die from.
vii.  THE EYE. googling something you shouldn’t have. eureka moments.  the unforgiving lens of a camera.  witness reports.   hidden libraries.  eyes of different colors.  feeling of being watched.  a death recorded in tape.  a tragedy you can’t look away from.   endangering yourself for knowledge.  truth. analog records.  a symbol of an eye. a watch tower.  compulsion to document. turning on recording devices without thinking about it.  saving the evidence before the person. extracting information. truth or dare, without the dare. a thirst for knowledge. books that speak to you. coordinated shelves.  cataloguing systems.  voyeurism.  police report you can’t put down. reasoning your way out.  smell of old papers.  books that read you back.
viii.  THE HUNT. sharp canines.  sore calves after a run.  the scent of blood.  an adventure for the journey’s sake.  the adrenaline right before the kill.  a whistle’s echo. the WOODS (call her the blair witch 'cuz the woods are her home).  the doe eyes of a prey animal.  your own breath in the air.  sharpened claws.  being tracked.  fear of someone knowing your every movement.  hunting down monsters.  hide & seek.  running away only to end up where you started.  staying alive purely because the enemy enjoys seeing you run.  a set of footsteps behind you.  blood dripping from bare hands.  barks & growls.  focused eyes.  a victim going limp under your hands.  a mouth full of fresh blood.  catching the scent of something monstrous.  perfecting your craft.  peering into the dark & running after it.
ix.  THE LONELY. an apartment too small for a double bed.  completely vacant streets.  waking up to see everyone gone.  fog.  point nemo.  a house too big to hear your family members in.  alone in a faceless crowd.  a mask with nothing behind it.  separated cubicles.  a deafening silence where joy should be.  a blinding spotlight.  the least missed in your friend group.  streets without lights in the windows.  isolation.  not truly knowing your friends. your friends not truly knowing you.  need for silence.  fear of crowds.  staring into space knowing nothing is looking back at you.  a ship alone at sea.  depression.  knowing your friends are better off without you.  talking to someone only to realize they’re gone.  a family too large to notice you there.  safety in being alone.
x.  THE SLAUGHTER a game of tag.   senseless violence.  a true crime hobby.   improvised weapons.  blinding rage.  intent to kill.   a horrific day in a quiet community.  a medal of bravery.  holding on to what validates your anger.   history books that spare no details.  an injury you want revenge for.  war.  counting kills.  songs of soldiers.  a knife block on the counter.  a pool of blood.  shellshock.  unspeakable horrors.  anger pushing you forward.  unimaginable pain.  not seeing who will hurt you but knowing the pain is coming.  a fully human monster.  an authority sending its lessers to their deaths.  kill or be killed.  unedited wartime memoirs.  a weapons collection.  not knowing the names of who you kill.  too many to remember.  loss of hope.  there’s no heroes in war.
xi.  THE SPIRAL sleep deprivation.  corridors you can get lost in.  maze puzzles that loop back on themselves.  losing possessions.   losing people.  losing your sanity.  corkscew curls.  rows of funhouse mirrors.  optical illusions.  a separate reality.  walking through the wrong door.   delusions.  not knowing what your hands are doing.  blank spaces in documents.   hallucinations.  wrong proportions.  a nameless thing.  a place that has never existed.  doubting your own mind.  blind faith. losing track of names,  labels, categories.  distorted sound.  an imperfection in a glass that twists the view.  loss of time.  a garish color.  doors that open to nowhere. lies. an unnatural laugh.  jokes & tricks.  illusions.  a doorway.  a sculptor with a wild imagination. limbs in impossible angles.  doing what’s fun, not what’s sensible.  fractals you can get lost in.
xii.  THE STRANGER wax figures.  a close approximation of a human face.  a borrowed appearance.  a strange smell.  glass eyes.  furs & pelts.  a dance.  a song of a choir.  the uncanny valley.  stitching yourself together.  the colors of a circus.  a puppet with no strings. mannequins.  glitter & sequin.  a stranger you’ve always known.  someone strange in the place of someone you knew.  stolen identities.  stolen skins. a machine imitating humanity.  the anonymity of a service worker.  hiding in plain sight.  uncomfortable to look at.  a faked accent.  concealing.  forgetting who you are. forgetting who others are.  a replacement no one notices.  images that look posed.  the only one seeing the false face of someone.
xiii.  THE VAST. open spaces.  carnival rides going up & down.  fear of heights.  endless infinity around you.  your insignificance in an universe.  stomach turning at a drop.  fear of not the crash down but the moment you slip.  the sway of a cable car.  an adventure holiday.  losing track of where the surface is.  miles & miles of nothing around you.  staring at the sky & feeling like you may fall into it.  loss of control.  a fall that doesn’t end in death.  glass floor to the view below.  terminal velocity.  the sound of wind in your ears.  a reach over the railing.  a jump from the top of the building. falling into nothing.  feeling your feet let go of the ground.  a leap of faith. motion sickness.
xiv.  THE WEB. undecipherable code. a puppeteer holding the strings.  power over the weak—willed.  strings of fate.  manipulation.   an arranged accident.  a hundred minions doing your bidding.  cobwebs.  spiders.  a laid trap. never voicing discomfort.  outwitting a cheater.  doing things without realizing it.  red string across a corkboard.  finding something lost where you were sure you checked.  power over the unreliability of chance.  watching others dance for you.  an entangled death.  a thousand tiny legs & fangs.  shady forum threads.  something important gone missing.  suspiciously disregarded case.  a missing witness.  connections.  the world wide web.  power of victimhood.  gullibility.  no control over your own decisions.  an invisible leash.  mass psychology.  a horror film in the making.  scapegoat.  never remembering to ask for a name.
+  THE EXTINCTION. the end of an era.  apocalypse movies.  the alarms of warning systems.   a desolate landscape.  end of the world cults.  nihilism.  the last written history. a changed world.  no survivors.  old prophecies.  a thousand predicted ends.  a new chapter.  an end with no escape.  catastrophes.  a calendar counting down.  breaking point.  overindulgence.

Asami woke up groggily, feeling something wasn't right, she sat up on the edge of her bed and slipped her feet into her awaiting slippers.
She glanced around her spacious bedroom, the full moon was shining brightly into the space, her balcony doors were open and the silk white curtains were flowing gently in the wind.
The roar of the sea was loud in the quiet night, her alarm clock on her bedside table read 1:15 am. She scanned the room looking for any obvious signs of why she had been dragged out of her heavy sleep so easily.
Her television was turned off, her phone, laptop and tablet were all charging on the far opposite side of the room so she wouldn't be tempted to glance at them when she should be sleeping.
Her desk lamp was off, her sketches for her father were scattered haphazardly ontop of it, the top pages ripperling slightly in the fresh sea breeze.
All in all everything was in it's correct place.
Totally stumped the young heiress decided to grab herself a glass of water before trying for sleep again. So she slipped on her RCH cheerleading hoodie and crepted downstairs without turning on any lights, she didn't want to wake up her friends that were sleeping in the other rooms around her.
Once in the kitchen, Asami collected a clean glass from the draining board next to the sink and poured herself a glass. She lent on the kitchen counter top as she took small sips of her water, watching the sea crash against the shore line through the window not 100 yards away.
As she watched, her eyes landed on a figure standing knee deep in the surf, they were scimming stones across the waves of the ocean. A boisterous dog was lolaping around the person diving nose first into the water excitedly in search of the stones.
As the person turned and stretched extravagantly, Asami reckonised her girlfriend Korra in the moon light. Wondering if her leaving through the back door had woken her in the first place, Asami opened the kitchen door. Welcoming the warm sea breeze that engulfed her as she stepped onto the wooden decking outside the back door.
She crossed the garden until she reached the back gate that backed out onto the soft sandy beach beyond, she took off her slippers and left them on the grass next to the gate where she wouldn't get sand in them and crossed the dunes until she reached her girlfriend.
"You're up late" Asami commented as she came to a stop next to her girlfriend.
Korra glanced sideways at her and smiled slightly, "Alot on my mind is all", Asami nodded. That was the thing about Korra, she wore her heart on her sleeve, but words weren't exactly her foretay. If she actually wanted to know what was going on in the younger girl's head she knew she would have to probe a little deeper.
"Penny for your thoughts then"? Asami asked, leaning down and stroking Naga's head as she trotted over panting excitedly.
Out of the corner of her eye Asami saw Korra shrug before she pulled her arm back and threw a stone as far as she could, it sploused loudly about 200 yards away.
Asami sighed, "Babe, if you don't want to talk to me about it that's cool, but please don't stand there and sulk all night, I don't mean to sound harsh but either spit it out or come back inside, but don't just stand here all night trapped in your own head".
Korra nodded, she gave a massive, defeated sigh and mumbled something the older girl couldn't hear.
"Sorry babe I need you to repeat that, you kinda mumbled".
Huffing through her nose Korra said, "I'm just thinking about next year".
Asami's heart sank, of course, it was obvious now, Asami was heading off to university in Zaofu in September whilst Korra was starting her senior year of high-school. For the first time since Korra was born they wouldn't see eachother every day, and just the thought of it hurt like hell.
"Baby" Asami said sympatheticly, "why didn't you tell me sooner, what's going on in your head, talk to me".
Korra scoffed, "yeah right, here I am worried you'll realise how immature I am as soon as you reach your halls of residence at Zaofu and you want me to whine like a little kid about my problems".
Asami sighed and rested her hand on Korra's shoulder, "I don't think your immature Korra, well", she paused, then continued, "not in the way you're thinking about anyway. I don't care that we haven't slept together yet babe, you know that, and you don't drink because of your parents accident, I think that's very responsible of you".
Korra scoffed and muttered "damaged goods".
"Korra, stop" Asami said forcefully, "stop with the self hate, you've gone through so much in your life, don't be so hard on yourself".
"I just. I can't loose you as well" Korra said in a quiet voice.
"Your not going to baby, I promise".
"How can you possibly promise me that"? Korra asked.
"Because I believe in us, that's all I need" Asami said softly before pulling her girlfriend into a caring hug.
"I love you" Korra mumbled into her girlfriend's hoodie.
"I love you too baby, come on inside, I'll make us some hot chocolate" Asami smiled as she pulled back from the hug.
"Oh, oh, can I have those mini marshmallows in mine"? Korra asked, with the most adorable smile Asami had ever seen on her girlfriend's face.
"Of course baby, anything for you".
Together, the two girls and Naga went back up to the spacious beach house for hot chocolate, alot of cuddling and finally some sleep.
Just before she fell asleep with her younger girlfriend in her arms, Asami made a silent promise to herself, and the girl she loves, to never give up on what they have, right here in this bed.
- - - - - -
Five years later, as she was kneeling infront of her speechless girlfriend, asking her the most important question she's ever asked anyone. Asami Sato was so very grateful she was always a women of her word.

Opening Doors
Asami: *Parks satomobile*
Korra: *airbends over Asami to open her door* And here you are, my love. *bows* Asami: You adorable dork. *pulls her up to give her a kiss then hooks her arm through Korra's* NEXT DAY
Asami: *walks toward a door*
Korra: *dashes forward to open door with a bow*
Asami: *grins and kisses her before entering*
LATER
Asami: *is near a door*
Korra: *sprints over to open it with a bow*
Asami: *very confused* That's... that's the gate to the trash. Why do I want to go there?
Korra: *turns bright red* Uh, because, um. maybe you needed to take out the trash?
Asami: *hands on hips, exasperated* You don't need to open every door I'm near, you know.
Korra: *smiles, weakly and lets go of the door* Uh, um, well, you know, I just...
Asami: *silences her with a kiss* You adorable dork.
Korra: *grins between kisses* Well, I'm you're adorable dork.
Asami: Mhm. Yes, you are. Mine.

In your opinion, what was the morally worst thing Korra ever did?
Not the "biggest mistake" but the actual "morally most bad" thing.
Please reblog, for more votes!

"Akki, it's time to go," Hirano said softly, grasping both Kagi's shoulders as he steered him into the hallway.
"But- but-" Kagi's lips quivered and brows furrowed together.
"We've both got work to do," Hirano said. "As much as I'd love to hang around outside her classroom all day, I don't really want to do that. She'll be fine."
"But, my babygirl- S-she's growing up," Kagi said with a sniffle and a quivering voice.
"Our babygirl," Hirano reminded him. "And yes, that's kind of how it works."
"It's like she could barely walk just yesterday," Kagi wiped his cheek with his forearm.
"I know, I get it. I do. Really." With one hand, Hirano rubbed his back in small circles as he continued to direct him toward the set of double doors down the hallway that led back to the gate. With the other, he covertly blotted his own cheek with his sleeve.
Hirano, Kagiura, and their daughter Asami from my kagihira parent AU 💕 Excerpt from part 5, "New Fears"

The Myth of Y/N (Korra x Reader) Part 28
CALM BEFORE THE STORM
Y/N'S POV
Frustration is fuelled within me every second we stay in our apartment. Pacing back and forth, hands clasped, behind my back, I stare daggers into the ground.
"Y/N, relax." Korra suggests, concern in her face.
Relax? How can I relax now?!
After Aiwei escaped, Korra proposed we use Naga to track down the truth seer but Chief Beifong forbid us to do so! She wants to send us back to Republic City so she can protect Korra! Even Suyin agreed with her much to everyone's surprise and now we're leaving tomorrow!
"Every minute we waste, the further that traitor gets away." I grit out, my steps increasing in their speed and intensity. "This is our best chance to catch Zaheer and we are now losing it!"
"None of us are liking it." Mako comments, his voice so bitter that I can practically taste it. "But we have to listen to the Chief's orders."
Unfortunately, he's right.
"I guess so." I concede and I eventually drop to one of the chairs. "She better know what she's doing."
A loud knock brings the scene to a halt.
Who's knocking at this time of night?
Korra opens the door and there, standing by the entrance, is Suyin.
Wait, Suyin?!
"Su."
"You really think Naga could track Aiwei?"
Huh?!
"Definitely."
"Then, here."
In a flash, I see the matriarch handing Korra some keys. Wait, keys?
"There's a jeep packed with supplies on the east gate." Suyin explains. "It's all gassed and ready to go."
Korra, obviously, is confused by all of this. "What? Why?"
Suyin responds immediately. There isn't a hint of hesitation or regret. "Because I want you to hunt down Aiwei and bring him back to me."
WHAT?
Despite my shock, I manage to speak up. "I thought you said-"
"-I said what Lin wanted to hear and I bought you guys some time." She clarifies. "Go. I'll deal with Lin in the morning."
YES! We can finally catch that bastard!
After a quick hug to Suyin from Korra, we all begin to depart. Before I walk past Beifong, I give her a small smile. Despite our differences, despite the arguments, despite everything, at this moment, we are allies. She helped us and I will be grateful for that.
"Thank you."
Suyin, probably having the same thoughts as I did about our relationship, smiles back. "Don't mention it. Now, go!"
I nod and with a quick dash we head off, Korra on Naga and the rest of Team Avatar in the jeep.
The hunt begins.
TIME SKIP
We have been travelling for hours. Once the sky was as black as Vaatu's heart is now as bright and blue as the hope we now have.
Throughout the trip we all managed to have a little bit of rest. We needed it after all the excitement we had back in Zaofu.
The thought of the metal city reminds me of Lin. She's going to be PISSED when she realises we're gone. Spirits, she probably already knows.
Right now, we're at some local Earth Kingdom desert village. Naga managed to track Aiwei to the small area. He must have took a quick stop.
It isn't much. Just a bunch of run-down and withered buildings bunched up close together. Its clear the village hasn't been well-kept by the populace.
"Aiwei has definitely been here." Korra tells us. She then looks at Naga with a grateful smile. "Nice tracking, girl."
"Let's ask around." Mako suggests, already beginning to walk to some sort of tavern. "Maybe someone's seen him."
We all follow, and we enter inside. Just like the outside village, the tavern isn't well kept. The citizens are just as dirty and sketchy as the area.
I look around the area, trying to spot someone who appears to be at least a little trustworthy and-
Uh oh.
"Shit."
My curse catches my friends attention and they all turn to see what I was talking about.
Right by the entrance, there are five posters. Posters that have pictures of each and every member of Team Avatar. Korra, Mako, Bolin, Asami...and me.
"Wanted posters!" Korra exclaims in shock.
Mako leans forward and narrows his eyes. ""Wanted by Her Majesty, the Earth Queen, for crimes against the Kingdom."
Crimes? Oh, you have got to be kidding me!
"The Queen is still pissed about what happened in Ba Sing Se." I growl like an animal. "The fucking nerve to place a bounty on us..."
"Those airbenders won't hers to keep!" Korra angrily barks out. "I swear, if I see her pinchy little queen face again, I am going to..."
"Uhh, guys..."
Asami?
We all turn to see why she's all of a sudden nervous.
Oh...
There, in the tavern, all of the customers are glaring daggers right at us. The dirt, scars, and ripped clothing amplifies the intimidation they already radiate. I even see one pulling out a long, slick sword and another a sharp spear.
Uh oh...
"Lets get out of here." I quickly mutter and in a blink of an eye we all rush out.
Welp, I guess we should continue the trail. No point sticking around this...fun...place.
We eventually reached another town, much larger, tidier, and generally nicer looking than the one we visit before. Apparently it's a place called Misty Palms Oasis. I guess its an oasis in more ways than one after our las location.
But that pales in comparison to what we found.
Naga found something.
Aiwei's jeep crudely hidden beneath the large rocks that spread across the plains.
Bingo.
"This must be Aiwei's jeep." Asami tells us, pointing out the obvious. "He can't be far."
She's right. Aiwei must be in Misty Palms!"
"Let's get this guy." I tell them, cracking my knuckles. "He must be in that settlement over there."
"No." Mako disagrees, hands raised in a soothing gesture. Then, he points to his younger brother. "Bolin and I will investigate the Misty Palms Oasis. You, Korra, and Asami wait here in case he comes back. Besides, we don't want to call too much attention to ourselves."
Dammit. He's right.
Sighing heavily, I relent. "Very well." I reluctantly agree. "I take it you two would be wearing some disguises?"
"Did someone say disguises?!" a very loud and cheery voice calls out, causing Mako to pinch the bridge of his nose and mutter "Oh no..."
Bolin, clearly more excited than his brother, dashes to the bags of supplies Suyin had provided us and then, in a moment of light speed, whips out a yellow raincoat, so bright that it nearly hurts my eyes, and pulls it all over him and proceeds to bring out some green goggles and slaps it on him. A few moments later and Mako does the same.
Um...
Well, uh, it's certainly a disguise...
I mean, it might attract a lot of attention with its colour but at least its something...
Oh dear.
I trade looks with Korra and Asami and its clear we all share the same thoughts about their...disguise.
"Now we need some backstories!" Bolin continues, clasping his hands together and rubbing them back and forth in a preparation gesture. Then, he dramatically places one on his chest in a dramatic sense of sadness. "I'm an ex-United Forces operative named Ting-Ting. War was the only woman I ever loved, until Ivy came along and showed me what real love is. Tragically, she was taken from me by my archenemy Dr. Razor and-"
"-Enough!" Mako interrupts, clearly fed up with his brother's antics, and begins dragging him towards the Misty Palms. "Let's just find Aiwei."
"Good luck, guys." I tell them and just like that they are off to the local area.
Well then.
"Is there anything in his jeep that can help us?" I ask the two women as I begin walking towards the vehicle.
"Only one way to find out." Asami says. "You check the boot and I'll check the glove department. Korra, you watch out for us."
"On it." We both respond at the same time and we get to our tasks. Korra sets herself upon a large boulder while I go to the back of the jeep. In a quick motion, I pull the lid of the boot open and I am greeted with...nothing. Great.
"Nothing in here." I tell them with irritation, slamming the lid shut. "Any luck with you?"
"Not yet. There isn't seem to be anything of-WAIT! I think I found something!"
Oh shit!
"You found something?" Korra speaks up, sliding down the boulder and joining Asami and I.
The CEO of Future Industries pulls out some sort of note and hands it to Korra. What is it with these guys and notes?
"Xai Bau's Grove, sundown." Korra reads aloud carefully. When she finishes, her features light up in excitement. "This must be where and when Aiwei's going to meet Zaheer!"
"Sure sounds like it." I agree, crossing my arms. "Never heard of Xai Bau's Grove before, though."
"Good thing we have a map." Asami points out and then spreads it across the jeep and begins analysing it with precision and care. "All right. Xai Bau's Grove, where are you?"
Our eyes scour the map, draining and drinking the information before us like we dying of thirst. I can't see the name we are looking for. Dammit!
Almost immediately after we begin our search, a couple of blue butterfly-like spirits land on the map, covering portions of the map.
Asami brushes them away with annoyance. "Go away! I'm trying to find something."
Damn straight. Now, where in the spirits is this pla-
WAIT!
SPRITS!
"Hold on a second." I urgently tell her. "Maybe they are trying to tell us something."
"What do you mean?" Korra asks."
Before I answer her, I do a thorough scan of the Earth Kingdom map one more time to make sure I am not mistaken.
I am not.
"Xai Bau's Grove isn't in the Earth Kingdom or anywhere." I finally answer. "It's in the spirit world! That's why it isn't on the map."
Upon my revelation, their features flash with a new understanding. Asami scrolls up the map and places it away. "You're right! That's got to be it."
"We'll wait for Mako and Bolin to return and tell us if Aiwei is here." Korra declares, her voice full of leadership and authority. "If he is here and he's staying in Misty Palms, then we'll wait until he mediates into the Spirit World."
I nod in agreement. Sounds like a plan.
Eventually, Mako does return but by myself. Before I can panic, he tells us they found out Aiwei is hiding in an inn and Bolin is keeping an eye on him. We tell him of our own discoveries and we agree to stake his room out until sundown and quietly enter his place.
We manage to book a room ourselves opposite to Aiwei's. A perfect place for a stakeout.
Well, almost perfect.
Because this room is fucking awful.
Literally, it's so small its ridiculous with only one bed. Like, its okay for one person I suppose. But still! Naga is literally filling up nearly half of the damn room.
"I'd just like to say, for the record, this room is definitely not perfect." Bolin speaks out our thoughts but is immediately hit in the face by the polar bear dog's tail.
"Understatement of the century." I dryly comment and glance at Korra and Mako peeking out of the window.
Bolin continues his (understandable) complaints. "I thought stakeouts were supposed to be exciting. This isn't. At all!" To avoid total boredom, he begins searching through the room but then gets all excited out of nowhere. "Hey, look! A Pai Sho board! Mako, you want to play?"
"Kind of busy, bro." Mako quickly refuses, focusing on spying on Zaofu's traitor.
"I'll play."
I glance at Asami, and I see her lit up with excitement and anticipation. I didn't know she played Pai Sho.
A few minutes pass and, as I silent observe the multiple games between Bolin and Asami, I come to learn that the CEO of Future Industries is actually a Pai Sho master or, at least, a master of the version she plays. Turns out Pai Sho has multiple versions, which now I realise isn't really surprising since the game is apparently over a thousand years old, and Bolin played a way, WAY different version. Sato's version is slow, methodical, focused on strategizing. Bolin's is fast, reckless, and little thinking. The earthbender doesn't like this, obviously, and seriously asked Korra to standardise Pai Sho rules. The sarcasm she shot back at him went completely over his head.
"So, we know at sundown Aiwei is going to go to the Spirit World." I state, glancing in the directions of Korra and Mako who are staring at the truth seer's own accommodation. "We go to his place and you just meditate into the Spirit World?"
"That's the best plan I can think of." Korra responds, still gazing through the glassless window. She doesn't sound worried at all despite what happened back at Zaofu.
"Korra, you were nearly kidnapped last night." I tell her with complete seriousness. "I don't like the idea of you confronting Zaheer in the Spirit World all alone."
This time, my best friend turns to me with complete determination in her gaze to me. "Y/N, I have to. This is the only way we can find out more about these guys and stop them."
"I know that." I shake my head. "I just..."
I trail off, not really knowing what to say. I'm overthinking this. It's not like Korra can be taken in the Spirit World. Neither she nor Zaheer would have their bending.
But Korra looked so vulnerable back in Zaofu...
I don't want her to be in that state again.
"Maybe I can come with you?" I weakly ask, already knowing the answer.
Korra shakes her head gently. "It's best if I go alone. By myself it will be easier to hide and might give Zaheer a false sense of security."
I nod solemnly. Dammit.
Then, a light touch of her fingers press upon my chin and I see her tilt my chin upwards. I see a small smile on her lips and comfort in her ocean eyes.
"I'll be fine."
Yeah. Yeah, she will. Of course.
"I know." I tell her, a smile slowly spreading on my lips too.
"Ugh!"
And, like that, the tender moment is ruined by Bolin's scream of frustration. Sounds like Asami has defeated him yet again.
A quick glance and, unsurprising, I was correct as I see Bolin laid down on his back, face buried in his palms, and groaning quietly while Asami has a triumphant smile on her face, arms crossed.
Hm. Okay then.
Displaying a big and cocky smirk, I walk over to Bolin and sit down, cross-legged, next to him. "My turn."
"What?" Bolin squeals out, shooting straight back with wide eyes. "Don't do it, Y/N! Asami is too skilled! She's undefeatable!"
"I'm afraid he's right, Y/N." Asami agrees with complete arrogance, her triumphant smile now a smirk. "I'll destroy you just like I did to Bolin."
Oh, really now?
I cross my arms in defiance. "Then you won't mind if I have a go, oh so Pai Sho Master?"
She chuckles at my mockery title I give her. "If you don't mind losing then sure."
Oh, I'm not going to be the one losing.
"I didn't know you played Pai Sho." Asami points out as we reset the board.
"I played a few games of it back on Air Temple Island." I tell her, placing my own pieces back to their starting positions. "Jinora taught me how to play."
"Did you and Korra play together?"
I give her a sly smile. "You really think Korra will play Pai Sho? A game of patience?"
"Hey!" Korra barks out with an offended look, mouth agape. "I can be patient!"
"You can." I concede. "But you can't be patient enough to play Pai Sho."
Asami chuckles. "Sorry, Korra, but I have to agree with Y/N on this one."
"Asami!"
The jet-black woman and I gaze at each other as we hide our snickers behind our mouth as we try to contain our laughter at the sight of Korra's offended and infuriated look.
When the moment subsides, we go back to our board and not too long afterwards we are finished with resetting our arena.
Bolin slumps away melancholily and moves to the side of the two of us and then gives me a dedicated stare. "Avenge me, Y/N!"
I give him a serious gaze that shouldn't really be serious in the first place given the situation. "I will."
I turn to Asami, the woman giving me a hardened glare, and I smirk.
"Your move."
Unlike the previous matches, this one lasts for what feels like a lifetime. Each move her and I make is coordinated, organised, and with purpose. The arrogance that once filled our forms has now drained away as we realise that our opponents are actually good. Really good.
"This is the longest Pai Sho game I have ever seen." Bolin comments.
"This is the longest game I've played." Asami agrees.
"Ditto." I add. I then manage to retrieve a drip of arrogance I had and smirk. "I thought you said you were going to destroy me?"
"Don't get cocky." Asami warns, smiling dangerously. "I don't see you doing any better."
Hm. Touché.
We continue but no more teasing comments are made. This game is dead silent now as we make our moves one by one, piece by piece, strategy by strategy.
I don't know how much time has passed but eventually we reach a deadlock. Our number of pieces are low and equal.
"This can go either way!" Bolin announces, voice full of shock and anticipation.
Asami and I glare at each other, intensity in our eye-lock so powerful and thick you can slice it with a katana.
The sound of an excited fire ferret is the only warning we hear and in a blink of an eye, tiles from the game fly into the air while the board acts as a resting pad for the cute pet.
NO!
"PABU!" Asami, Bolin, and I yell, startling Korra and Mako. In a fit of anger, I swing my arms upward into the air but this accidentally sends Pabu and the Pai Sho board and tiles right into Asami's face!
"Asami, you okay?!" I tell her, moving Pabu away from her and giving it to Bolin.
"I'm fine." The CEO of Future Industries groans out, moving strands of hair away from her face.
"Shhh, guys!" Mako sternly orders us. "We don't want Aiwei hearing us!"
"But Mako you should have seen it!" Bolin exclaims, despair in his voice. "It was the most intense game of Pai Sho ever and Pabu ruined it! Now we'll never know who would have won!"
"I'm sorry the game was ruined but just keep it quiet." Mako tells his brother, not having any of it.
Welp. Thanks Pabu. The game between Asami and I will forever be inconclusive. Just peachy.
"I'm sorry for blasting all of that stuff at you." I apologise. "It was an accident."
Asami, now finally tidied herself, gives me a tired smile. "It's okay. I'm just surprised at the strength of that blast. You've really progressed fast with your airbending, huh?"
Warmth rushes to my cheeks in embarrassment and I scratch the back of my neck. "Eh, I'm not that good. I suck compared to Tenzin, Korra, and even the air kids."
"Don't be too hard on yourself." Asami refutes. "For a novice, you're great! I mean, remember back at Zaofu? You deflected an explosion!"
True...I did do that. To be honest I'm surprised I was able to do it. I wasn't even thinking when I did it. I just...did it.
"She's right." Korra agrees, giving me a proud smile. "Not any newbie can do that. You'll be a great airbender."
The heat in my face intensifies and engulfs into flames. I really hope I don't look as red as I am feeling.
"T-Thanks." I tell her, shyly looing downwards. Then, in a surprising boost of confidence, I chuckle. "Sprits, I'm going to have a big arrow on my forehead someday. Imagine that."
"I can imagine it." She tells me with a slight teasing smile. Then, the smile shifts into something tender. "And we'll all be there when you get them."
"You said it." Bolin agrees, wrapping an arm over my shoulders. "An airbending master in Team Avatar?! How cool is that?!"
Huh. Me, an airbending master?
I close my eyes and imagine myself as that. Me, wearing big, bold, red and yellow robes with a cloak similar to Tenzin's that signify my allegiance to the Air Nation with bright blue arrow tattoos all over my body and being clear as day on my hands and forehead.
"Yeah." I tell everyone, giving them a smile. "It would be cool."
"Uh, guys." Mako announces. "I hate to break the moment but it's pretty much sundown. We got to make our move now!"
The friendly atmosphere shatters as we are brought back to the reality of the situation.
It's sundown?! Already?! How long were Asami and I playing Pai Sho for?!
Standing up straight, I gaze at the outside world and I see the all-too familiar orange glow of a sunset.
"Lets do this." Korra declares and she starts marching out of the room. One by one, my friends leave until I am alone.
Taking a deep, hard, breath and release it, I follow.
Korra will confront Zaheer.
We will find out who he and his friends are.
We will find them.
And we will stop them.
One way or another.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's it!
Feedback is appreciated! :D
See you all in the next chapter!

El & Max = Korra & Asami/Raava
Just to point out the various moments in visuals & content that El & Max are actually "Korrasami".
Tumblr media
The start of the relationship and how it develops, specific scenes, is technically very similar with a jealous first encounter and then becoming close friends and a little more. - While the scenes from LoK were interpreted that they were a couple, a fan ship, and were then later made real, ElMax is a real couple that people believe is just fan made.
Max and El have a habit of touching hands - that's their love language while vision is Lumax.
Tumblr media
The "yoga" thing, focusing on memories is a theme. Or just the closing of eyes and choice of color..
Tumblr media
Amon threatening to steal Korra's abilities which he ultimately does. Looking into a mirror (a mirror image of Will doing this)....listening to a sports match.
Tumblr media
Or Asami attacking her "Papa" who wanted his daughter to join him in his deeds has some very similar vibes to El attacking Brenner.
Then you have Airbending & final fight...
Tumblr media
...and Bloodbending.
Tumblr media
And of course...
Tumblr media
Max and Korra suffer a very similar fate here and the writing of letters is both Korra doing her recovery and Marty writing his letter to Doc Brown. - The Spirit World scene is also adopted with a young Korra in it.
A very important part is the way how El & Henry are made like Raava and Vaatu from Legend of Korra.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Season 2 there are hints that El is a Spirit through the sign behind her and to dress as a ghost for Halloween.
Tumblr media
I just point this out because I talked about it already months ago bc of a tweet by the Stranger Things writers saying "My favorite ship is korrasami" - so, even if there's a tiny bit of Byler here, Korrasami/Raava is much more ElMax. Additionally because Korra's and Asami's love was manifested in the Spirit World in the comics.
Same will happen with El & Max because El sent Max's mind into another dimension through a mind gate and over a rainbow bridge. A dimension of thoughts and dreams unlike the Upside-down which is described as an organism.
I point this out because someone used one line and a sentiment from Korrasami to equate it to Byler and while it might be true that they used a bit of Korrasami for Byler, Korrasami/Raava is at its core much more an inspiration for ElMax as far as I see it.

After hearing of Korra's escape, they attack and defeat the Dai Li, and Zaheer uses his airbending to asphyxiate the Earth Queen to death. The Red Lotus destroys part of the city's inner walls, announcing that the city belongs to the people, and chaos breaks out. Zaheer frees Mako and Bolin and gives them a message for Korra. At the oasis, Asami and Korra meet Tonraq, Zuko, and Lin and hear about the revolution.
Enemy at the Gates
As Kuvira's army marches on Zaofu, Suyin refuses to let her city join the new empire, and Korra tries in vain to negotiate a peaceful outcome. Varrick and Bolin come to realize the totalitarian nature of Kuvira's rule, but their escape is foiled by Kuvira's fiancé, Suyin's son Baatar Jr.. While Zhu Li pledges her allegiance to Kuvira, Varrick is forced to weaponize the spirit vines for her, and Bolin is to be sent to a "reeducation" camp. for anon who sent me an ask earlier today: i'm so sorry to hear about your cat's passing. i hope this short fic from your prompt helps just a little bit.
———
The cat is young, a calico with soft white paws and soft orange ears. She turns up on the doorstep of his dingy flat one dusky evening as he returns from work, quietly curled against the barred door in the shards of light thrown onto the stairs by the flickering lamp. Mako looks down at her large green eyes and sighs, slipping the gate open to step inside and returning with a small bowl of water.
"Go along, now," he tells her after she finishes lapping at the water.
A meow vibrates in her throat.
Mako scowls. He doesn't know what she's trying to say, but he does know he doesn't have the space in his heart to care about a cat.
He should have the space. Korra's gone, off recovering in the South Pole. Bolin's gone, off helping Kuvira stabilize the Earth Kingdom. Asami's… well, Asami's here, but they don't really talk much because they remind each other too much of what they've lost. Chief Beifong held an intervention and forced him to get out from under his desk and go invest in a place for himself — because she was tired of seeing his depressing countenance become a default constituent of this building's landscape —, so he's got space in his flat for a cat too.
Another meow, more insistent than the first.
"Don't care," he says, more roughly than he'd intended, but he's talking to a cat and a cat won't hate him for being too abrasive the way the cracks in the pavement molded him to be. He reopens his door, steps inside, and closes it on the cat.
And it becomes a routine. He doesn't know where she is by morning, even though he wakes up before sunrise no matter the day, but each time he comes back from work, she's there, meowing on his doorstep and lapping at the bowls of water he starts leaving out for her. It doesn't matter how dark the skies are, doesn't matter if he's returning at four in the morning after watching another child die from working under Viper. She's consistent and unrepentant, and she just becomes another orange-white figure in the haze of his life going in and out of work again and again.
It's raining when he comes back on a Friday night, raindrops pelting the small overhang in slates. The sky glistens like diamonds against black velvet, and Mako doesn't know why he smells wet cardboard and flooded dumpsters. The cat is present as always, face buried in her paws as she stretches in the barrier between the outside world and Mako's living place.
Mako sighs. His body hurts for reasons he's not sure of, feels small and aching and too skinny for his bones despite being more financially stable he's been his entire life.
"Come on," he tells the cat, opening the gate and widening the door further than he normally does. The cat stares up at him for a long moment, but before he can retract his offer, trots past and enters the foyer.
It's a small place. The rent is much cheaper than the apartment he and Bolin had shared before the spirit vines, and Mako likes it that way. Yellow ceiling lights, flaky plaster walls; a cramped bathroom with a mirror permanently fogged over; a bedroom with a futon pulled into the corner and a small closet filled with a week's worth of clothing; a foyer with hooks for jackets and shelves for shoes. He slides on a pair of ratty slippers Bolin had bought for him with his first paycheck, faded pink and detached soles, and pads into his room after the wandering cat.
The room is still empty. He never put anything in it, not like Asami's walls of pro-bending posters or Korra's dresser full of trinkets or Bolin's garish…everything, and none of them are around to harass him for it, so it's stayed that way. As the cat sets herself down on the edge of his futon, something small but vain in him remembers to feel self conscious for the first other living being to see his place. It looks more lifeless than an alleyway — places where stories are told in the bricks and the graffiti, the scent from the dumpsters, the lights filtering through from the main streets.
"I'm going to wash up," he tells the cat. "You can leave whenever you want."
And so the cat becomes part of his life more than he'd planned. He doesn't have anyone to take care of these days, not since Bolin found better things to do with his life and left, but he brings the cat in to get checked and feeds her and leaves the kitchen window open for her. She doesn't do much, just waits inside instead of outside for his return every night, and he gets used to it. He takes to calling her Clementine in his head and grows to talk at her subconsciously, a silent companion who doesn't remind him too much of anything bad the way everyone and everything else tends to do these days.
And then just like that, Clementine is gone.
He doesn't entirely know how it happened. He woke up one morning and she was gone as usual, and he got back later that night and she was still gone. A few days later he reads in the newspaper lit by lightning that someone ran over a cat, a tiny mention on the side column for his district, and his heavy-marrowed bones know the weight of death from love enough to know that she's dead. Something about the news in the dark of the storm feels vaguely like watching Ming-Hua in electric water.
It doesn't matter that much. Nothing much changes — his yellow-ceiling-lights, flaky-plaster-walls flat goes back to being as lifeless as it had been before, and Mako isn't the type of wallow in solitaire. He's not too devastated about her absence; he just sort of accepts it and goes forward, the way he does with every horrible thing that life won't stop throwing at him. He doesn't cry, even though he doesn't need to leave Bolin at Narook's and find an empty alley to do so anymore, because she was just a cat and Mako was always meant to be lonely.
In the walls of his dingy flat, he stands under cold water, droplets curling around the ends of his dark hair, dripping onto his shoulders like warm blood. He eats the eggrolls he picked up from the night market on the way back from work, and the grease permeates the light napkin wrapping and sets on his fingers, like spinning tools in a factory line. He washes the dishes piling in the sink and scrubs at them until his burn-scarred hands are soft, like hearts that get torn apart, and he lights a cigarette until he coughs at the smoke for the first time in years. No one is there to judge, not even silent Clementine, and Mako tells himself it's the way he prefers it.
Chief Beifong tells him to take his lunch break outside because she's sick of seeing him work through it. He walks down the block in the uniform that terrified him as a child, stares into the sun until his eyes start to water. On the street where Clementine was run over, children are weaving between upset cars, laughter spilling from their lips as they chase a game only they can see, and the space between buildings is suddenly darker when all Mako can hear is sobbing. He runs towards the alley and doesn't see a child with their head between their knees the way he expects, doesn't see defiled corpses burning in broad daylight. He steps back and looks back into the street and there's no cat with broken bones and bloody fur the way he expects.
Nothing's right. Lunch is over and he gets back to the station late, the first time in the past two years of working here that he's ever overextended his break.
Chief Beifong is standing in front of his desk. "Rookie. You're late."
"I know. I'm sorry. I… got lost in my head a little bit. It won't happen again." Mako sits down and pretends that he's not trembling, because he doesn't know why he would be.
Beifong frowns. "You don't get lost in your head. That's how you make mistakes. That's how you let people get killed."
I know. I know that more intimately than anyone else. I know, I know, I know, he thinks, over and over again; like Bolin crying night after night on the street on wet cardboard in the presence of flooded dumpsters; like the memory replaying night after night of his parents lighting the night as its torches; like Clementine arriving night after night on his doorstep waiting for him to come home.
"I'm sorry," he repeats. He's trying to make apathetic eye contact the way authority likes him to, but for some reason, he just can't muster it in his bones today.
Beifong sighs and starts to walk away, before stopping and turning back. "Kid," she says, softer, "you seem out of sorts lately. I don't know what's leaving you like this, but you know we can't have anyone half-assing their work here." She looks as though she's debating whether or not to say more, then — "Take it from me: don't get so caught up with the past. You have the present enough to deal with as it is."
Mako doesn't ask how she knows. He just nods and pulls out his pen to keep filling out documents the way he always does at this hour, and when he gets home that night, he lets the empty space in his heart hurt and miss Clementine just a little bit.

i wrote this in the car on my phone in a couple hours so sorry if it's a little scuffed. but again, please take care of yourself :( and i hope you feel better from being sick also!
to address the rest of your ask — i wasn't planning to write korra into this au, but i might throw in a reference at her at some point as a family friend of the air family haha. she's also aged down to thirteen in parallel to the other kids. though the fic won't go this far into the future, she'd pull up three years down the line as the swt chief's daughter coming in to wreak havoc in republic city. i do think that the idea of korra being the older teenager trying to put these kids on a leash while also being batshit insane herself is such a funny idea that i'm almost tempted to write it!
i might make stuff on the triple threats into another hc post, or even a fic at some point, but perhaps not today my friend. i do love your phrasing of "accountant streetrat dropout" though — you're so right that that's basically what he was lmfaooo. however, PLEASE keep bothering me it makes me really excited to see you in my inbox!
also side note: i'm thinking of putting some of these tumblr short pieces + some of my older small unpublished fics on ao3 by a different pseud. thoughts from anyone who happens to read through this shitfest?

List of Morally Worst Things Korra Ever Did
Ok, to be clear, this isn't an anti-Korra post. I just wanted to have a list like this for my own purposes. She obviously also does a ton of objectively good things, but I wanted to see her at her worst.
Setting the ancient airbending gates on fire in a tantrum
Kissing Mako when he was reluctant, he was already dating Asami, said he liked both Korra and Asami, and Korra had just dated Bolin
Using Naga to terrify Tahno
Causing massive property destruction in her attempt to hunt down a couple criminals
Siding with Unalaq over her own tribe when he militarily occupied the SWT
Threatening to have Naga eat Judge Hotah
Conspiring with General Iroh II to force the United Republic into war against the NWT against the will of the United Republic's civilian leadership.
Opening the second spirit portal to "save" Jinora from Unalaq, even though Jinora is begging her not to do it.
Trying to basically kidnap Ryu just because he's an airbender even though he was utterly uninterested in joining the Air Nation.
Helping the Earth Queen collect taxes.
Chasing the Red Lotus behind Lin's back?
Threatening to make it her "life's mission" to stop Baatar Jr. from seeing Kuvira ever again?
