This is an AU where TSC ran away from Alan in the events of AVA IV. Meeting TCO earlier in the process.

Aside from the aesthetics and optics making one look good cop and the other bad cop- what do you think of the different approaches of altruism Batman and superman are?

Like what do I think are their different approaches? Or what do I think of their different approaches?

I think, in terms of altruism, they have the same approach haha. A focus on rehabilitation and redemption. On love and forgiveness. Both capture criminals and offer them ways to turn away from the sordid pasts. Neither exacts justice on their own. Both leave their captures to the authorities and due process.

They have no differences in their approaches to altruism. Their approaches to vigilantism on the other hand.

Clark seems to focus more on just stopping the act as it happens, but of course he can do that as a superhero who is fast, strong, and indestructible. Clark can also then rely totally on being this big shining target of goodness that inspires some criminals to lay down their arms peacefully and can easily handle the ones who don’t.

Bruce isn’t so lucky. He’s a human and he needs to rely on his human skills and wits to keep himself alive and bring down crime. How does he do it? He makes himself out to be a monster that preys only on the wicked. You have to seem pretty dark and terrifying to pull that off, but it keeps him safe and keeps the dangerous off the streets when they think someone even more dangerous is prowling them.

So, yeah, the optics make it seem like Bruce and Clark have wildly different approaches, but they really don’t, that’s why they’re best friends haha

Always be careful who you let play with your head. Sometimes it feels icky, and it's ok to shut it down...

Practice trance on yourself to get better at it. It's super easy. Just like meditating. You can watch spirals or listen to meditative music or hypno files. Anything to get you into the zone.

Edging is super fun and important and helps you get into the fuzzy fun state of mind. Helps you become more open to suggestion and kinda melty so it's easier to guide you.

Repeating mantras are always good! Even when you're just doing things around the house! Try easy ones like "I'm an empty hynoslut" and just keep it on a loop in your head! Eventually it'll just sink in!

Always have fun and let yourself be free to explore new things! You never know where it'll take you and that's the best part!

do you think that captain marvel plays off his using kids slang as part of him being omnilingual? better yet, imagine that he thinks that it doesn’t count but it actually does and he only finds out years later

i dont really have much to add to this but yeah

Oh I 1000% believe knowing slang/kids slang counts as part of his omnilingualism.

I see the reasoning behind this being that with omnilingualism comes the ultimate understanding of all languages and the ability to decipher them. With language comes formal and casual conversations and alternative versions of words that generations have created due to changes in society, environment and the eras/time. Slang and kids slang are all a part of the art of languages, so i see that it makes perfect sense for Captain Marvel to be able to understand them.

Adding onto that, if Captain Marvel's omnilingualism didn't include understanding of slang terms, then I believe Billy's influence as the vessel included those additional parts in the power. It's a little headcanon of mine that the mortal behind the power of the "Mightiest Mortal" is able to influence the powers they gain with their personality flare/unique identity. Since Billy is a homeless street kid, that left him more susceptible to hearing slang words from other people on the streets, mainly teens and kids from skateparks and parks (where he hangs out sometimes because no one will question him for being homeless there among other kids).

As for the slang words expansion pack not belonging at all to his omnilingualism and is in fact just Billy being a kid, then that would also be a barrel of fun to see! I can easily see members of the Justice League asking Captain Marvel what certain words their sidekicks/children text them, asking him to translate for them.

STEVEN - steven's kisses are soft. gentle, and oh-so-smooth, yet extremely public. when you first started dating (when steven's nerves were at their very highest and you were just starting to get to know each other), the most steven would do in public is lay a quick peck to your cheek. I think during the beginning of relationships, steven would absolutely give it his all in private, but would be extremely nervous about pda. think…the kind of shyness where people would still know you were dating, yet would never see him actually kiss you. steven likes having a piece of his life just to himself, and that includes you. but as you fall in love, as he begins to realize (with a little nudging from marc), that you actually want to be kissed in public—that that is your love language—the boy makes it his new mission to make it up to you. and that starts with him getting off of work one day, and instead of kissing you on the cheek and accepting the tea you brought him like usual, his hands come to the sides of your face as he pushes his mouth to yours. it’s the softest, yet most fervent kiss you’ve ever shared. and so, it becomes your lil’ habit: kissing in the foyer of the museum as the rest of the world watches.

MARC - soo….I firmly believe marc spector is an ah-mazing fucking kisser. now, I don’t think that this is necessarily a controversial opinion, but I think that even with his lack of meaningful relationships, he gives it his all when he kisses people. like his kisses are the kind that always steal your breath and make you feel like you’re floating. like imagine a kiss that makes you swoon?? that’s his default, m’kay? BUT. when marc is in love—head over heels typa beat, his kisses are a lot more subtle. marc has no problem kissing your mouth, in fact it’s one of his favourite things to do. but sometimes he doesn’t have the time, or, something comes up when the two of you are in public and he needs to leave quickly. so, when that boy is in love and he doesn’t have the time to tell you, he kisses your knuckles. he’ll be in the car, admiring how fucking beautiful you are, and as you turn the corner he’ll pick up your hand and kiss your knuckles. or if you’re in the middle of sex, and you’re just on the verge of coming for the first time, he’ll kiss your knuckles before pinning them above your head. sometimes you miss it. sometimes, especially at the most random times, you don’t really register that he’s doing it. but when you do catch him in the act, you just smile and kiss his knuckles back…an unspoken acknowledgment.

JAKE - NOW JAKE?? OH MY GOD, JAKE… so we all know jake lockley isn’t the biggest talker (I mean he literally stayed fucking silent for ever as marc and steven fought over the body, so his self control and ability to not ever fucking say a word is pretty high). he’s just quiet. a smooth-talker when he does choose to open his mouth, but for the most part, quiet. even around you (not that he wants to be). part of jake’s main insecurity is that he isn’t as vocal of the feelings he has for you as the other guys, and he isn’t as vocal as you. you always unapologetically tell your boys you love them. except when you say ‘I love you’ to steven and marc, they say it back. jake, not so much. again, it’s not that he doesn’t feel that way. he does. that boy’s so in love with you it physically hurts him. it’s just he can’t, he’s not good with words. but he is good with his actions. so whenever he feels like telling you how much he loves you; when the words won’t come out no matter how hard he tried, he kisses you on your forehead. wherever he is, whatever he’s doing, when he wants to say it, he’ll just walk up to you, cradle your head and press his mouth right into your hairline. it’s so much more different than his other kisses—a lot more gentler and full of emotion—that even without him having to explain it, you know what it means. forehead kisses are reserved for your love, and your love only.

Honestly… I don’t really know. A few years ago, I had really bad prenatal depression, and it really affected my writing. Over that time I tried to push through it a lot, but everything I put down just looked like absolute trash to me. And by that point, I knew quite a few people in the fandom, and I was just… I don’t know, embarrassed by the thought of people I knew seeing the fact that I couldn’t string together a coherent sentence.

Meanwhile, when I started Peremo, all I really had was an ending and the thought that I wanted to write just a really unhinged, scary Tom; I didn’t have much plot. But also because I knew I wanted to take it to a really dark place, I just thought… to hell with it… maybe I’ll just start completely fresh and write it out and post with a pseud, and then if it sucks, it doesn’t matter, and my friends won’t think I’m the one who wrote that bizarre, badly written, dark fic no one liked 😂

But then I found that it actually really worked! The added layer of anonymity brought me away from my self-imposed perfectionist hole, took away my fears of putting out a ‘non-romantic ship fic’, and I found myself enjoying fic writing again! And then after not writing for about two years, I managed to string together and finish a 120k story 😁

So yeah! TL;DR: The pseud was an attempt to get through writer’s block, and gave me a ‘safe’ outlet for venturing into darker waters in my writing 🤗

Tim Drake is special because he chose this life. Much like Barry prior to The Flash: Rebirth (2009), Tim didn’t need a tragic backstory to inspire him to go out and be a hero. He also didn’t need superpowers to become a superhero (unlike Barry). No, Tim is Robin (Red Robin/Drake) because he saw the need and didn’t wait for the vacuum to be filled, he went out and filled it. Tim believes in Batman in a way that almost no one else does. He believes in Batman’s ability to save Gotham and he understands completely how and why Batman can be that hero. He’s also unique in his equal belief in Robin. That’s why he’s so okay with not “graduating” from being Robin, because unlike so many others, he recognizes that Robin is just as important for Gotham as Batman is and it’s this intense understanding that makes him such a cool and important character.

Now for Jason, I think he’s unique because he’s the redemption story. I’m sure some people would call him a failure, but I wholeheartedly disagree. Anyone who knows anything knows that you only fail something when you stop trying and Jason has never stopped trying. No matter how horribly life and the people in it have treated him, Jason never gives up on helping others. You know all that stuff I said about Bruce caring even when he has no reason to? Yeah, Jason is every bit Bruce’s son in that. But Jason is a redeemed character through and through, he was the Robin that died, the one that was made to believe that no one wanted him, was convinced that he was a failure and yet he came back, had a bit of an evil era, and then he was redeemed. He accepted his faults and the faults of those around him and he became determined to do better or die trying.

There’s some other points I’ve made before, but I don’t want to rehash so this is all I’ll say for now haha 🫡

Writing Obi-Wan I got an amazing ask that has prompted your Pal to go on several rants so I’m breaking it into parts for readability.

An anon new to writing fanfic asked about characterizing Obi-Wan. They asked about his most important traits to include to really nail his characterization and most importantly:

"In particular, I'm confused about reconciling the (chaotic, dramatic, 10/10) Clone Wars happenings with the way he appears in some other stories (more, well, civilized)."

Well anon: ask and you shall receive. Find your pal’s beginner's thesis below, keeping in mind that there are many others in the fandom who are way more accomplished authors who are much better about characterization in their own works and are way more qualified to speak to this. I'm going to do my best!

I love this ask! Characterization is so important in fan fic as we take familiar characters in place them into different scenarios that we haven’t seen how they react and respond to, and yet want it to feel authentic. The best is when you read a chapter and think of course that’s how Obi-Wan would deal with this.

The first part to nailing characterization is voice. Not even the motivation aspects behind “he would not fucking say that” but I literally ask myself: can I imagine the character’s voice actually saying these things? If I can’t hear Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan in my mind speaking the lines of dialogue I’ve written, I know it’s not right. This isn’t something specific I could give you a How To on, it’s 100% based on vibe and feel, BUT. Listen to the dialogue in the movies/tcw/kenobi series. The words he uses, his cadence, his tone. Even if he's being written in an alternate universe speaking about something that canon Obi-Wan has never experienced, and never will, it should still *sound* like him. If I had to summarize his voice: civilized yes, and more mature or refined than Anakin’s speech patterns, but with the ever present threat of sass. Underlying almost everything he says is a sense of I can and will destroy you if you piss me off, so tread lightly.

That brings me to your point of reconciling the different parts of Obi-Wan. There’s a line in Stover’s novelization of Revenge of the Sith which (I'm paraphrasing) says: he’s a Jedi Master who deep down still feels like a padawan. To me, this is why he can be the cool, calm logical Jedi Master one moment and then impulsively launching himself out of windows to hang from a speeding droid the next.

He is the expert of Fake it Till You Make It. He was suddenly thrust into all these roles of responsibility before he was prepared for them, but has taken them on and is Doing His Best. He literally went from being a padawan to having a padawan overnight. He had no time to experience being responsible for himself before he was responsible for someone else. He’s the youngest member on the council and despite, you know, not being trained in the military he is like The Highest Ranking Jedi and in command of a frighteningly huge portion of the GAR. He *is* incredibly competent and good at what he does, but he feels like its a role he's acting. He is playing the part of the wise Jedi, modeling himself after everyone he respects and looks up to and thinks is doing a better job than himself, when a lot of times his personal instinct isn't to react with measured patience but rather Yeet! or Read This Bitch!

Always remember: this man contains multitudes. There is no One Right take on his personality. That’s why he’s so fun to write! And also why there’s so many different versions of Obi-Wan in fan fic, and yet most are able to feel right if they hit the voice. Authors lean into the different sides of Obi-Wan they want to bring out. Some are more into his Big Dick Energy, being a BAMF, having the answers, and being in control General Kenobi. Some relate to the more the anxious padawan desperate to prove himself. Some see the man tossing back shots in the Outlander and think to themselves “this ho has slept with half of Coruscant”. Any and all of these can feel true to the character when done from a place of love and understanding for our main man Obi-Wan Kenobi

I've been out of the loop with X-men comics for more than fifteen years, and actually I was in the loop for a year, maybe year and a half - I'm not from US, so they've been hard to come by. My love for mutants came mostly from cartoons.

BUT. Your fixation on Laura reminded me of my fixation on Laura from the times I discovered that she exists, so I thought you're the best person to ask this: If I wanted to read something recent and good about her, where should I start?

Hiiii!!! First of all, thank you so much for this ask!! I'm so flattered that you consider me to be a good resource!! I am unhealthily obsessed with Laura haha I could talk about her for daayyyysss!!!!! It's always so fun to connect with other people with the same interests and passions!! <3 <3 <3 I love it!!

Laura's been in so much!! But here's my personal favorites, and they're all things that I feel like are important to her characterization as a whole :)

LOVED NYX (2003) - her intro into comics!! So much angst and trauma and allllll the insight into who she is!

Uncanny X-Men (I'm pretty sure 456 is the first appearance for her here!)

New X-Men (she's not there until the 20s!)was really important - a lot of big moments as she tries to navigate her first time at a semi normal life.

x-23 Target X - SOO important, we see more of her backstory and transition from the facility!

X-Force (2008) MORE TRAUMA AND ANGST. I hate what happens to her here but love the angst from a story telling perspective. You can really feel her slipping throughout this arc!

X-23 solo (2010) It is a beautiful story!! So many amazing things! and SO IMPORTANT to Laura's character development!! Love her and Remy here, love her becoming friends with Jubilee, and LOVE her reallymeeting Akihiro - the start of an amazing story of chosen family!

I like her in Avenger's Academy - to be honest I mostly skimmed. I do like the angst of the brief friendship she had with Finesse though! To me it offers another look at how Laura is growing as a person!

Avenger's Arena was okay - I personally didn't feel like there was a ton of development for her, but it's good if you like angst and it just shows another layer of her slipping through the cracks again. The same with circle of four! I think they're good to read to get into her headspace for when she's introduced in all new xmen.

All New Xmen... I didn't love until it was over. I didn't understand all the things going on, but it made sense after the fact. You do see Laura's first official romantic relationship, and she has quite a bit of development, some set backs, some leaps forward... over all good and I would recommend reading for her overall story!

Wolverines was really good!! It shows the transition of tolerating each other to deciding to be family for her and Akihiro! I personally am OBSESSED with this story and I've read it countless times!!

Her All New Wolverine solo was AMAZING!! Loved this!! There was just so much that happened for her! Gabby, Akihiro, Sarah, Kimura... you get a dose of EVERYTHING and I think it ties the loose strings nicely!!

XMen (2019) isn't a favorite of mine but I do think it's important to read just because a lot happens for her here! It continues into the reboot in 2021 with an older version of her that comes back after she's presumed dead from a mission!

XTerminators is a resounding YESSS!!! Super fun, super cute! She's a little more relaxed and we get to see her reconnect with Jubilee!!

X23 Deadly Regensis was a nice bridge between her leaving the XMen and leaving with Remy in her early days. We get to see more of Kimura and more of what Laura went through!

X-Force (2019) was alright - it was a set up for her current appearance in Sabertooth War, which is also kinda meh lol but it's where she is now!

There are a lot of other things she's been in but I feel like it can get REALLY overwhelming, so these are just, in my opinion, most of her major stories that really showcase who she is :)

As a bonus - I loved her in Trial of Magneto and Deaths of Wolverine strictly for her interactions with her siblings. And there have been a lot of little crossovers between major events too where she just has shown up everywhere haha but I hope I answered your question!!

i just remembered another small idea for de-aged billy thats been playing in my head

so like billy’s been very bitter around the league for the whole time they’ve seen him de-aged and end up taking him out of the watchtower for whatever reason (or he finds a way to leave himself if the league doesn’t let him because they think it’s unsafe for him or whatever) and villainous shenanigans ensue, theres a lot of damage and a very, very, scared child

of course our dear billy goes to help said child (maybe the league try to stop him since they don’t think he can comfort the child in his current bitter state but can’t really stop him?) and that’s the first time they really see captain marvel in him

like they’ve seen his physical similarities (eyes, hair, ect.) but now they see him put on a big cheesy grin for this kid, his posture becomes so much more open and friendly, and he just manages to look like he can handle anything despite the fact that by all means a boy so malnourished should not look that way

i also imagine that the way he talks suddenly holds so much wisdom and kindness (he was very mean to the league lol)

also it’d be so cool if the moment the child’s safe and out of sight he just switches up immediately and looks so weary and tired, the moment he notices the league so much as glance at him funny he switches again to super feral

De-aged Billy (but not really) is one of my favorite things ever, and it brings forth so many opportunities for this small child to open up and talk about his traumas and problems to the world. (Once more people has seen the newest movie I will be creating my own post about Billy's traumas and how they affect him despite being coined as the immature, childish superhero by every other superhero in his world.) But the beauty and tragedy about Billy having every opportunity and chance to open up and be vulnerable with others, is that he's too scared. Too convinced that what he wants to discuss isn't going to be important to others and that his problems are his problems alone to face and conquer, when he's just a kid. A kid who's grown up too fast for his own good.

I imagine if the league tries to keep little mortal Billy Batson in the watch tower, he'd definitely try and fly the coop. The zeta beams, trying to hitch a ride with another hero back home, or just straight up using a spell he saved to float in a hamster bubble back to Earth in space. (Superman stopped him from that last one).

Ultimately deciding on letting this small and feral child version of Captain Marvel outside in his own city for some fresh air is the smart decision. There may be some of his villains looking for him for any opportunity to strike at him, but I trust that the Justice League wouldn't leave him alone without a partner/chaperone, as they joked. It was supposed to be just Billy and Green Arrow accompanying him while things got sorted out.

Unfortunately Plastic Man hitched a ride on the zeta beam at the last second and completely threw plans WAY off.

They end up getting spotted by a villain, Dr. Sivana possibly, and things get messy, as you said. Green Arrow shoots down his mechanical dummies while Plastic Man deals with dangling the bald man upside down a lamp post. But the catastrophic effect to the clean and nice street was evident. Buildings were crashed into and torn apart by Dr. Sivana, nearly killing off innocent civilians, had it not been for Billy Batson guiding them to safety routes and easing their escapes.
