can we ask about your metal journey? as a light dabbler in metal i'm curious as to your favorites so far! artists and sub genres are so varied, it's kind of hard to guess

I was so excited to talk about my journey discovering heavy metal this got longer than i expected (and also I kind of misunderstood your message at first which is why I didn't just... list some bands i like whoops) so this is going behind a read more 💀

Okay so. We're gonna get the embarrassing part out of the way first and i'm gonna admit that I started listening to Metal because Stranger Things fanfiction kept name dropping bands and songs that I just had no reference for.

So! the intro for me! was Dio! because that's the big name on the back of Eddie Munson's battle vest! Still with me? Great! (You wanna know which song I listened to first??? It was Rainbow in the Dark. because I'm a predictable little fruit lmao. great song though)

I did absolutely fall in love with Ronnie James Dio's voice and also the way every youtube comment section in relation to him has someone mentioning what a great guy he was within the first ten comments (like. "We had a conversation on the street after the concert and when we met again five years later he remembered our names"-great. wtf?? How was that guy real??)

Just shooting from the hip some of my favorites of Dio (and bands RJD was part of) include Holy Diver, Heaven & Hell, Straight Through The Heart, Stargazer, Children of The Sea, The Last In Line, Don't talk to Strangers, Neon Nights Gates of Babylon, Die Young, [...]

And then I was like, well I can't listen to just Dio, right?? But I was also kind of frozen because there is SO MUCH metal out there! So I did the basic bitch thing and listened to the spotify Metal Essentials playlist which had me go "...Judas Priest? Why does that sound familiar...?" And it was, of course, because at some point I'd seen a tumblr post mentioning Rob Halford coming out in the 90s and how it was ridiculous that anyone could have listened to "Grinder" in 1980 and thought that song was in any way heterosexual. So, like the predictable little fruit that I am, I decided to work my way through Judas Priest and i'm not... close to done (it's almost like bands who started making music in the seventies and are still making music today have made a lot of music...! I'm not overwhelmed or anything!)

The Hellion/Electric Eye is a religious experience to me. No song about a totalitarian surveillance state should be allowed to fuck that hard. And YET-!

Sidenote: It's fascinating how exposing myself to Heavy Metal has changed my perception... of Heavy Metal. Like. The reason I never listened to it was because I had a very specific idea of what Metal music sounds like (which is! ridiculous! now that I know the amount of sub genres included in Metal!) but I won't lie: there's still a shit ton of metal that just sounds straight up grating to me. But! there are also songs that I love now (Painkiller by Judas Priest comes to mind) that I did not enjoy at all at first, so who knows? Maybe in another three months I'll listen to Napalm Death, even though right now I don't feel like Grindcore and I will ever get along like that.

At some point then I watched some youtube videos of Elizabeth at The Charismatic Voice reacting to Heavy Metal. I genuinely don't remember why I started doing this but I found her delightful and it was fun to watch someone else be completely new to Metal.

And still! There's a lot of metal I just don't really... get. Which I noticed when I tried listening to the official Wacken 2022 playlist to blast myself with as many bands as possible that are popular right now (to take a break from what I was doing before, imprinting on three heavy metal bands from the 80s and making them my comfort zone lol). But as i said, a lot of it still just sounds like... noise to me. But I want to get it, you know? I feel like I'm so close to getting it. So when that didn't work out I did the basic bitch thing again and searched shit like "intro to heavy metal" and "new metalhead guide" on YouTube until I landed on BangerTV's "How to get into Heavy Metal" series which I like a lot. He explains the differences in subgenres (SO MANY SUBGENRES) and gives examples of that genre that are easy to get into for people new to metal. The videos are, hilariously, directed at people who already listen to Metal who want to get other people into it, but that didn't really make a difference to me. He also once mentioned an artist as "the guy we don't talk about because of the racism" (paraphrased) which is nice. Always good to see you landed on the right page lol

And that's- that's where i'm at in my metal journey right now. I watched one of the BangerTV videos which made me want to check out Atmospheric Black Metal (verdict: weirdly? Relaxing?) and here we are. You, me and this metal playlist i started adding to whenever i really liked a song. It feels basically empty so far but it's also... somehow four hours long:

Thank you, friend! I've been in such a writing rut lately, and this was a good reminder that I actually do feel proud of some of the things I've written. <3

These are in order from newest to oldest:

Don't Leave Me, Even for an Hour - Max/Daniel, F1 RPF. I still like this one a little more than Little Drops of Anguish, maybe because it's shorter and was easier to write and less complicated, haha. I think I did a pretty good job writing the heightened emotions without being too melodramatic, which can be hard. I also really like the part where everyone shows up at Daniel's hotel room, and I'm glad I had that idea.

The Way We Look at Horses - Chris/Zach, Star Trek RPF. I was wondering the other day why it took me so long to write a Pinto cowboy AU, lol. It's literally the second to last Pinto fic I wrote, and it's one of my favorites. I've reread it several times, and I just...enjoy it. It's one of the few fics where I'm not thinking about the things I'd change or how I'd make it better. I think it's just...good!!

In Babylon - Chris/Zach, Star Trek RPF. If you had told me I'd write a stripper!Chris AU and it would be my favorite fic I've ever written, I wouldn't have believed you. AND YET! This was lightning in a bottle for me. Still pretty proud of the non-linear storyline.

Burn Out the Day - Winters/Nixon, Band of Brothers. The Supernatural AU that was my entry for the Easy Co. Big Bang. I actually reread this recently and enjoyed it so much it was like reading something that someone else had written, lol. I still think this AU as a concept works so well for Winnix, and I'm very glad I wrote it.

Dearly Departed - Chris/Zach, Star Trek RPF. No matter how long I write fanfiction, this one is always going to have a special place in my heart. It was the first time I ever participated in a Big Bang, the first novel-length thing I ever wrote, and I still love the whole idea of it and the structure and the converging storylines. I think I'd say it's my biggest writing accomplishment to date.

I always thought about writing but for a long time I was a lurker. I think the first thing I wrote but never posted was legolas fanfic at 13? Anyways I stopped for a decade, I didn't write anything because I didn't consider myself a writer. Then I was really stressed working on my undergraduate thesis and was staying up late and panicking. I wrote in a fit and found it really destressed me. Nesta was one of the characters that came to mind because I'd read acotar nine months prior and her tragedy never left me.

Who are you? Who do you serve? What do you want?

I prefer to keep my identity a little bit of a secret, though I’m not exactly in a witness protection program. :) To people who do not know me in real life, however (and perhaps to some who do), this project, and my passion for it, can be both a little mysterious and more than a little unnerving.

I don’t personally like the term “fanfic” as much as I like AO3′s term “transformative works.” Some works are, of course, more “transformative” than others.

Mine is radically so.

Behind the Gloves pushes readers out of their comfort zones by telling a radically different story from the one told and implied in canon - and with the same facts, and thousands of citations to support every possible piece. It’s not about memorizing thousands of canon facts and regurgitating them - it’s about telling you the “story behind the the story” that those who produced canon, for one reason or another, didn’t tell you.

And the project pushes readers out of their comfort zones in other ways, too. I know it does - what that means, though, will be different for each person. That’s OK - just know that whatever you’re wondering, I’ve been expecting you.

(I had to take myself way out of my “comfort zone” to embark on this project, too, more than most of you will ever know. I tried for many years not to write this book, but there are some things from which you can’t run forever.)

But what is it? Where does it end, and you begin?

Like the frustrated editor in the Prologue, you might think this book is “apologia.” That, I can confidently tell you, it’s not. But I knew you would say that, too.

Indeed, I rewrote the beginning of the book and included the Prologue precisely because I knew readers would wonder this, as they tried to make sense of the book - not just to introduce Emily right away (she becomes more of an important character later in the project).

Behind the Gloves is not denying that there were some horrendous things that happened in the Corps. (The project addresses these events later, though I have already begun to discuss some of them, as in Natasha Alexander’s first story.) But the reasons for them might not be what you think, and the larger context might also not be what you think.

And some of those same folks you have been taught to regard as “good guys” in canon also did some horrendous things... I’ve got the canon cites to prove it, but the show and the greater canon swept all that under the rug and finally literally deified them, didn’t it?

(Oh yeah, we get there. It takes a while, but we do.)

Behind the Gloves aims to put everything into what I believe to be its proper larger cultural and historical context, both internally in the Corps and in the larger Earth Alliance. Readers will come to their own conclusions, of course, but they at least deserve to hear the other side of the story. (The people of that world got to hear “the other side of the story” after the Telepath War - if they wanted to hear it - with the publication of Bester’s memoirs and other documents. Historians wrangled for generations over what happened and why.)

I’m just one person, and I can’t give you everything. But I can damn well try - and I can give you this.

Top Five Two Books of 2020:

Ooof I only read 2 books this year which is sad, but here’s to 2021 being better on that front. I’ll give a shout out to them anyway because they were great.

1. King of Crows (Diviners #4, Libba Bray)

I feel like the Diviners series is one of the most underrated YA series. This book wasn’t my favorite in the series but the series in general is incredible. It’s essentially a paranormal mystery series set during the 1920s with plenty of romance and found family vibes.

What makes it great is that it doesn’t shy away from the more grim realities of the 20s. Rather than glamorizing the time period, it’s told through a really diverse cast of characters who are all forced to come together because of various circumstances (if you know of my love for six of crows, then you know why I love this). Also, the imagery and prose in this series is phenomenal. 11/10 recommend it and I think a lot of people are missing out.

2. Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1, Cassandra Clare)

Sigh. I feel like I have to preface, as always, that if you didn’t like the original shadowhunters series, PLEASE give the other series a try. I hated the first, but the others (The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices) are some of my favorite series. That being said, I think the Last Hours might become my favorite shadowhunter series just based on book 1 alone. I binged this in less than 48 hours because I couldn’t put it down and without spoiling anything I am SO excited for book 2 based on the ending of this one. I think Cassandra Clare’s writing grows better with each book/series and this is no exception.

This series takes place in Edwardian London and the some of the main characters are children of the Infernal Devices characters, with some new ones as well. Compared to the other series, I really loved the cast of characters as a whole rather than rooting for a single ship.

Top Five Eleven Fanfictions of 2020:

I’ve read way less fic than in past years just because I read less of it when I’m writing more, but here are some favorites, all bellarke fic. I recommend you check out my bookmarks for all my favs, 2020 and otherwise

Five good/positive things that happened to you in 2020:

1. Fandom: I really dove into fandom this year because of my free time and despite the show being a disaster, making really good friends & watching @t100fic-for-blm grow has been awesome.

2. Writing: Along the same lines as above, all the free time allowed me more time to write than I’ve ever had. Prompts from @t100fic-for-blm also had me writing ideas I never would have thought of or explored. In 2020 I officially published over 400k words and although that will be hard to keep up with when things become normal again, I definitely will do my best to keep my writing up.

3. Health & Job: I’m lucky enough that I didn’t get sick this year, nor did any close family members or friends. Everytime I get frustrated with how things are going, I try to remind myself big-picture that I’ve been really lucky. I also am still working and have a steady paycheck this year which I know isn’t the case for so many, so I’m beyond grateful for that.

4. Redecorating: Maybe this is more just “buy stuff make me happy” lmao. I moved to a new city in summer 2019 and was still getting my apartment together when the pandemic hit. Since March, I’ve bought what feels like my first ✨adult✨ furniture pieces and my apartment definitely feels more like home.

5. My cats: Lol I’m honestly so grateful for these munchkins. I live alone in a studio apartment and also don’t know many people since I moved to this city recently, so having them with me while stuck in my apartment alone has really been a huge comfort and brought me joy.

You’d tried your hardest to let him go, to let go of your love for him. But it was abundantly clear that for the both of you, that would never work.

Although you were fiercely independent, the thought of not having Luke in your life gave you a sadness that really twisted your heart and pulled you down from whatever good feeling you were in at the time.

The first time you felt like that, it had alarmed you. But then you realised that it was more just being around him, hearing the dumb jokes he’d make if it got too quiet. It was the feeling of being noticed in a room full of people that spoke over you. Luke gave you his full attention and it had always been like that.

When he was on tour, unless he had work obligations, he was always able to shoot you a quick text. Some days you struggled with replying so he took it on him to send small things like memes he knew would make you smile.

And the time away from him did you some good. You found ways to enjoy life without relying on that small bit of happiness. And he understood that entirely.

And soon your friendship was easy sailing, with him on the road most of the months out of the year. But then he started falling. He was with the wrong friends, he ignored you for days. There had been a brutal arguement when he’d told you to fuck off, stating you weren’t his girlfriend or his minder.

Ashton had held you when you finally cried about that a week later, feeling your heart tear itself up.

Luke had never realised how much he’d hurt you with his words but you stepped back from him then. You sent him one word responses and stopped answering him when he called you at four in the morning.

But then it changed.

The ringtone had woken you up, and glancing at the time, the numbers read two in the morning. You scowled as you noted the I.D and the last bit of patience you had, snapped.

“What do you fucking want? It’s two in the goddamn morning Lu.” You snapped into your phone, feeling tired mind and body protesting being woken up.

“Don’t know where I am. Need you and everyone left me.” His words were slurred and you could hear the slight hitch in his voice. Putting your phone onto speaker, you switched to the Find My Friends app, feeling relieved that he’d never stopped sharing that with you.

“I know where you are, Lu. Want me to call Ash?” He fell silent before a sob broke through on the phone and you realised it was bad.

“I’m on my way.” You finally got out once you were in the car. You stayed on the phone with him, keeping it hands free as he brokenly begged you not to leave him.

And part of you wondered if you could deal with this.

But as you pulled up in the car, your headlights washing over his hunched over form, your resolve settled, knowing that you weren't going to leave him. Not when he needed someone to love him.

“Luke?” His head shot up and his eyes were bloodshot and tired, tear tracks running down his cheeks. His hair was dishevelled and his face looked gaunt.

You felt your heart break.

“C’mon, let's get you back to mine.” It was easy to coax him into the car, but he was clearly tense, his body taut like a loaded spring ready to go.

Once he was in your place, his body seemed to collapse in on itself and you could do nothing but watch as the man you called your best friend at one point, break down.

“Why are you so fucking kind? Why did you bother answering that call? Why me?” It took you a further fifteen minutes to get him into your spare room, silently promising that you’d tell him when he was sober.

So when the morning came and you checked in on him, you watched how he was sprawled across the bed, his feet hanging over the edge a little as he turned at the sound of the door opening, cracking open an eye.

“I’ll get some food on for you. When you’re ready for food come down. And when you’re ready to talk I’m here to listen.” And you headed downstairs with relative ease.

It didn’t take too long for him to come down for food, and once you’d both started eating, he finally opened up.

He talked about the arguments he was getting into, the way he was feeling about the band and his life. And it hurt you to hear him so desolate and broken.

You could see the weight pulling off his shoulders as he lifted the burden and by the time he fell silent, you had tears in your eyes.

“You asked me ‘why me?’ last night.” You started off, watching as he shrunk in on himself. And you couldn’t let him do that to himself.

Moving off the stool, you stood in front of him, forcing him to look at you.

“Why you? Because you’re like a warm coat in the dead of winter for me, Luke. You’re a comfort that I’ve never known existed till I met you. You’re my best friend and even though you’ve been such an asshole to me, to the others, I still care ‘bout you because someone needs to be in your corner. You were there when I broke. I’m not only returning the favour, but I’m making sure you know that you’re loved and cared for.”

It took him a solid minute to process your words, tears falling down his cheeks once more before his arms wrapped around you, pulling you into the tightest hug.

His head was resting on your chest, your chin resting on the top oof his head as your fingers carded through his curls. Breakfast lay long forgotten as he accepted your small form of comfort.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” The words were repeated as he held onto you tight and you realised that he hadn’t had someone say it to him outright. He knew his best mates loved him, but to hear that someone was in his corner was another thing entirely.

“Do you want to go home, or stay with me? Might even invite Ash around for dinner.” This earned a weak laugh, his arms finally loosening from your body and you leaned back a little, giving him some room to tilt his head back.

“If you utter the words ‘I’m sorry’ once more, I’ll shave your hair off.” The threat was empty, but he silently understood, giving you a small smile instead.

“Have I ever told you that you’re amazing?” He whispered instead and you grinned, leaning up and pressing a kiss to his forehead.

“Once or twice, now let go of me you absolute giant, I’m hungry.” And as if on cue, your stomach rumbled loudly, making the two of you giggle.

Once breakfast was over, the two of you curled on the couch, and he began to tell you everything.

And it was in that moment that you knew that you were never going to give up on him, or loving him.

And you were okay with that.

It was a few months later when you were trudging through the snow to Luke’s place, your body wrapped up to ward off the chill. There was no way you were driving on the first day of snowfall, so when you reached his, he laughed.

He looked so much better. His face had colour back in his cheeks and the haunted look he’d worn when you picked up that awful night had long since faded.

“Get in or you’ll freeze to death!” He chided you as you stepped in, greeting Petunia once your outer clothes were shed. You were still cold despite the warmth of the house, and Luke noticed you shivering so he pulled you into the living room, giving you no space to argue as he sat down and practically pulled you into his lap.

This made you laugh.

“I’ll be fine Lu!” You whined, groaning as he added in a blanket.

“Listen. You told me that I was like a warm jacket on a cold day. So be quiet. I’ll keep you warm.” And you could feel your embarrassment flood as you hid your face in the crook of his neck, his laughter at your reaction making you groan.

“I love and hate you.”

“Love you too. We have a couple of hours before more guests, so just stay here and warm up.” He instructed. And as he added a blanket over the two of you, you couldn’t find any reasons to complain at all.

Came across this on Tumblr a few days ago, it amused me for a couple of hours or more, filling it in, while watching QI.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

Star Trek: Voyager, I suppose at least for reading. Started writing with Stargate SG-1.

2. What is your latest fandom?

I dip in and out of lots of fandoms on and off, the most recent ‘pick up’ is Ballam from Eastenders, I don’t watch soaps, but Robron and Ballam both appear a good bit on my tumblr, so I eventually gave in to checking them out via fic and youtube – thank god for youtube, lol! I still don’t watch soaps, but I watch those storylines!

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

Gosh, that’s... actually no that’s really easy. Primeval. For anyone not familiar, it’s a ‘silly little dinosaur show’ produced in the UK. It had 4 short seasons, with a somewhat revolving main cast – although they managed to keep 3 of them through all 4 seasons – but the fandom was/is amazing. I made life long friends through the fandom and even though I don’t write much any more I still read some and still talk with those people.

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?

I would say no. I can’t say every fandom has always been amazing – ship wars anyone! – but mostly fandom has been a very positive experience in my life.

5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?

Here we go again... lol!

Stargate SG-1: Jack/Sam, I just... no. I’ve read a few where it’s a background or secondary pairing, but it always makes me wince a bit. I’ve read a few with Sam/Daniel as a secondary pairing that didn’t make me react that way and I’ve read Sam with other characters, but Jack/Sam just is a nope for me.

Stargate Atlantis: McKay/Keller – no, just no. that was horrible. She treated him like... awfully, trying to change him to suit her, just... no.

Marvel: Contentious, but Tony/Pepper, also Peter Parker/Tony Stark. Maybe because I saw the movies before I ever looked at the comics, but meh.

Due South: Benton Fraser/Ray V – again, contentious, but honestly I think Ray V was kind of a shit friend to Fraser.

Firefly: Anything with Jayne. No really, I just can not stand the character. I spent most of the series wanting to punch him in the face and sometimes you get characters you love to hate, but I just hated him.

Buffy/Angel Verse: Buffy/Spike, Willow/Kennedy

Harry Potter: Ron/Hermione, Ron/Harry, Harry/Ginny... basically, Ron and Ginny should just be loveless hermits who live by themselves. Ok, no, that isn’t fair... but as much as Ron was Harry’s first friend, he was selfish and bitter and Ginny/Harry just... never sat right with me. Ron literally says she spent ‘all summer talking about’ Harry, when she’d met him for all of three seconds. She didn’t know him. It always felt like she fell more in love with the *idea* of Harry Potter, than Harry Potter himself.

Sherlock: Sherlock/Molly, he’d eat her for breakfast. Serious, she’d never survive him.

Primeval: Oliver Leek and anyway. Arg. Creepy little dude is creepy and evil.

NCIS: Ziva/DiNozzo – ugh, just no.

8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

Tumblr, god damned bitches posting gifs of pretty boys falling in love, roped me in!

9. What are the best things about your current fandom?

I dabble in several fandoms at once... but if we go by ‘most recently picked up’ as ‘current’ we’re talking Ballum, which hey, it’s always fun to have an actual canon pairing be my OTP, that’s rare for me, lol.

10. Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?

Well (so far) I haven’t written any Ballum. (I say so far, because I’m a realist, lol). I rarely read in fandoms and not end up writing in them at some point. Although I have probably dabbled in a few I’ve not written for, but if I read it with any sort of consistency, I mostly end up writing it. I am weak!

11. Who is your current OTP?

Okay, so that list above, just basically go with that. While I do drop in and hour of fandoms and some I certainly read in more than others, I do tend to go back to fandoms... If we were talking about what I’m mostly focused on writing atm... Steve/Tony, Mycroft/Lestrade, Harry/Draco and Robron are ones I’m currently working on most.

12. Who is your current OT3?

I’m not currently writing anything that’s OT3 with any real focus. I have a couple of Neal/Peter/Elizabeth WiPs that I will at some point finish, but they aren’t a big focus just now. I did recently read a fabulous Neal/Peter/Elizabeth fic that’s been on my tbr list for ages.

13. Any NoTPs?

Just... see above, lol!

14. Go on, who are your BroTPs?

Harry Hart/Merlin, those two are Bro’s until the end and I will fight you on this. Also, Eggsy/Roxy! OMG they are such a BroTP! And Tony/Pepper/Rhodey – I may no like Tony/Pepper as a pairing, but I love them as best friends and of course, our Rhodes, because again, I will fight you on this, they are awesome and Tony needs his best friends!

15. Is there an obscure ship which you love?

I’m not sure there is. I suppose I’ve read a few fics for some random pairings over the years, but nothing that’s made me really ship-ship them. I like Clint Barton/Bucky Barnes, after seeing it as a secondary pairing in a Steve/Tony fic, but I’ve seen that pop up a few times since, so maybe it won’t stay obscure for long!

16. Are their any popular ships in your fandom which you dislike?

Jack/Sam, Tony/Pepper, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny, Buffy/Spike – they all seem to be het pairings, oops. But I am mostly a slash fic reader/writer, so I suppose that’s not too surprising.

17. Who was your first OTP and are they still your favourite?

Jack/Daniel from Stargate SG-1. I still love them. I still read them, although it has been a while since I’ve written them on their own (I have got some SG-1/SGA x-overs where they feature)

18. What ship have you written the most about?

I’m genuinely not sure... without going and counting (and I’m not going any counting!) I’d guess Jack/Daniel, McKay/Sheppard, Jack/Ianto and Steve/Danno.

19. Is there a ship which you wished you could get behind, but you just don’t feel them?

No, not that I can think off. I either like it or not. I do occasionally feel bad for not reading a fic if it’s an author I really like, but I don’t read that fandom or pairing, but nothing specific.

20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?

Robron and Ballum, lol. I do not do soaps!

Author Questions

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

Stargate SG-1, Jack/Daniel, a story called The Dare, The Disaster, The Almost Happy Ending, And The Very Happy Ending – it was awful. Don’t go looking, lol!

22. Is there anything you regret writing?

Don’t we all? No, I wouldn’t specifically say so. There are certainly fics, especially older ones, I wish I could have written better, but nothing I’d go, ugh I should never have done that.

23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.

Uh... honestly that’s really hard. I... um... yeah, I don’t know, really. I wrote a nice little flower one in POI that I felt worked rather beautifully. The Language of Flowers. An I wrote an SGA fic for NaNo a few years ago, called A Different Life, but it’s not online, because I didn’t finish it yet and I knew I wasn’t going to finish it any time soon, so I didn’t feel it was fair to leave it up unfinished (there is a reason I don’t read WiP fics and I don’t post them either, because I know how much I hate unfinished WiPs) Edit: After writing this I reminded myself of a POI fic I wrote called Hours of Separation – It’s a Harold/John break up story that I always intended to write a sequel too where I ‘fixed’ them, but I just couldn’t do it. I broke them a little too well. But I really love it actually.

24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?

The afore mentioned A Different Life needs to be edited and finished, lol! Also a Primeval fic with the working title Crypt Keeper (don’t ask) that I worked myself into a bit of a corner on and I figure out how to fix it, but I haven’t done it yet, so it’s still needs fixing and finishing, lol!

25. What’s your most popular fanfic?

I haven’t the foggiest.

26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?

Sometimes, really easily, a quote, a line from the fic, a song title... other times it’s like pulling teeth, hence working titles on things like ‘crypt keeper’ which is a reference to one scene near the very start and has no actual hint of the plot, lol!

27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?

Oh the titles. Summaries you can just copy a few lines from the fic if you are desperate, if you had to post ‘untitled mcshep fic #67’ people would get cranky, lol, hell I’d get cranky!

28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?

Oh... I... huh. I mean who wouldn’t love fanart for their stories? Any of them honestly! But if I had to choose just one... I guess something in my Animal Instinct verse, which is Primeval (although I always intended to write other fandoms in the verse) where some people transform into animals, based on their ‘spirit animal’ and some art of the characters with their spirit animal form would be awesome.

29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?

Sometimes, look if you’ve read this far, you know I write in a lot of fandoms, lol. In some fandoms it’s easier than others to find beta readers. Also, sometimes if it’s just something short, I won’t bother. But I do try for my longer fics.

30. What inspires you to write?

That old adage, if you want to read it, sometimes you just have to write it? Spite? Boredom? Honestly sometimes I just have ideas I have to get out of my brain and it’s write or go mad(der)

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

That it inspired them to write something.

32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?

Sometimes, sometimes I find it distracting when writing because I end up singing along and forgetting what I’m writing, lol! I do sometimes get inspiration from songs, I guess mostly from the lyrics, but no particular band or genre – although I listen to a lot of country music!

33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?

Little from column a, little from column b... littler still from column c...

34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?

Around 60k, I think.

35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?

I have. Primeval had/has a week drabble challenge, mostly when I’ve written drabbles it’s been for a challenge, with a specific prompt.

36. What’s your favourite genre to write?

Uh... I mean, my fandoms really span the genres, but I guess sci-fi or crime are probably my favourites.

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?

Third mostly, I have occasionally written in first person, if it felt like the fic needed it.

38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?

Little from column a, little from column b... it depends on the fandom and the story. Sometimes you just need more characters, mostly they are minor roles, I don’t tend to write much established character/oc fic

39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?

Ability to convince myself people will want to read it, lol! No actually to be honest, I love to know people read and like my stuff, but I gave up a long time ago on trying to ‘please’ people with what I write. I write what I want to read.

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

Focus. The problem with 21 years of fandom history, is well... 21 years of fandom history. A lot of fandoms, a lot of pairings and as I say, I never really ‘leave’ a fandom, I just drop in and out and sometimes that means I’ll write on something consistently for weeks or months and then end up getting distracted by another fandom again and not touch it for weeks or months again. Hence, I don’t post WiP fics, because I know I’m easily distracted and don’t want anyone to suffer my lack of focus but me.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

Oh hell no, not even, I can not. It took me an hour to narrow down 5 authors, I can not narrow down one fanfic!

I mean, it depends on what they like... probably the Hour of Separation I mentioned above, if they like the fandom/pairing, or my Animal Instinct stuff.

47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?

Archive of our Own. I haven’t touched ff.net in *years* since they started getting super restrictive about what you could post. I do occasionally post stuff to tumblr, but mostly I now post to AO3. I did have my own site and I’ve yet to upload a lot of stuff to AO3 – one of these... months... that will be a project – but it’s amazing. Seriously, having been in fandom 20+ years, going from having to search all over a million different places and now it’s all in one place, where we’re honestly, spoiled and protected. The kids now have no idea how crazy impossible that once seemed.

48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?

Yes, but not as often as I should. I love AO3s kudos button, so I can sort of say ‘hey I enjoyed this’ without having to comment, because I sort of hate leaving comments just going ‘hey I enjoyed this’ because I always feel like I should say more, like, oh I enjoyed this specific thing, which yes is an unnecessary hang-up, but there ya go.

49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?

Of course it’s nice to get comments, kudos, reblogs etc. I’m not as attached to them now as I was when I was younger, because I learned along the way that it was more important that I like what I’m writing than that other people do, but it’s still nice to know that something I’ve created is enjoyed.

50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?

I went looking for Star Trek Voyager stuff online, pics etc, waaaaaaay back when! And I came across fanfiction entirely by accident... and I read some – het stuff mostly, then I started watching Stargate SG-1, went looking for fanfiction for that, but was not on board with Jack/Sam, found Jack/Daniel went ‘huh really? That’s weird’ read it... and yeah... 21 years later... lol!

51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!

Ship Wars. No seriously, just don’t. Like, who the actual fuck cares. I like my ship, you like your ship. I don’t care if it’s canon or not. I don’t care if it’s popular or not. I don’t read my NoTPs, but I’d never dream of telling someone else not too. Yes I think they are terrible, bad, no good pairings, but that’s *my* opinion. Don’t try to change my mind and I won’t try to change yours. I avoid them like the actual plague. If someone starts that shit around me, I will shut it right down. You are a dick. Go to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect £200.

Now the questions:

1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?

I think the episode where they and Catra go on a mission together to find First Ones tech on the polar region? They were so lovely together, all excited about the mission, casually touching each other (which is kind of a big deal given that Entrapta is canonically autistic and does not really like to touch people and Scorpia seems autistic to me too). Though I can’t really pinpoint the exact moment, but they were my first ship for this show

2. Have you ever read a FanFiction about 2?

Oh yeah! It even was among the first fanfiction I ever read and what got me into reading fanfiction. Thought looking back there is definitely to less fic about them.

3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr?

No, but only because this was one of my earliest ships where I didn’t had tumblr yet, and I am very private about showing my fandom live openly on something like my phone or computer background. But that does not mean I do not love them.

4. If 7 were to suddenly break-up today, what would your reaction be?

Not surprised. At all. I mean they don’t really like each other in the first place; there are one of these ships I ship because its sexy and their dynamic is interesting, not because they would be good for each other.

5. Why is 1 so important?

Oh my, I could write an whole essay about that. In fact, I did an 30 min long Youtube video about that. But in short, its is both how respectful they are to each other and that they genuinely like each other, and how rare it is to see two disabled people not only being written well but also find love with each other and manage to help each other trough their internalized ableism (I think you don’t know that series, fandom-star: Entrapta is canonically autistic and its the best portrait I ever saw, and Hordak is physically disabled, some sort of muscle atrophy among other things)

6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?

They are enemies on two sides of a civil war between their Castes, who seem to have some past together, so definitely serious.

7. Out of all of the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?

I think L’Rell/Cornwell. They had only two scenes together and made me and many, many others, including the actors, ship them. I also think all mentioned Delenn-ships have insanely strong chemistry, but I seem to be the only one thinking that. And I don’t know if Entrapta and Hordak have really chemistry or something more awkward, more honest, but they did have an interesting dynamic right from the start

8. Out of all of your ships listed, which ship has the strongest bond?

I can’t decide between Entrapta/Hordak, Delenn/Lennier and Data/Geordi. Entrapta broke trough an space-anomaly induced amnesia in a “perfect world” just from hearing Hordaks name, and he remembered her trough two times brainwashing. Delenn and Lennier have this vow of “I’m yours forever. Heart, Body and Soul” and she says he is the rock on which she stands and without whom she would stumble and fall. Data and Geordi served on one spaceship together for years and managed to get trough so many catastrophes together.

9. How many times have you read/watched 8’s fandom?

Surprisingly less, since its not that old a fandom. Only two times I think?

10. Which ship has lasted the longest?

Delenn/Lennier. I think I shipped it for nearly five years until the fandom just got to toxic

11. How many times, if ever, has 2 broken up?

I think never, because they are not the type to break up easily, as they were finally a couple.

12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?

I think both are strong contenders, since L’Rell and Voq are both Klingons who know how to survive and fight, but through Datas android strength and no need to eat and all the useful functions of Geordis visor I think Data and Geordi would have an advantage.

13. Did 5 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?

I think the humans would not have been to happy for Delenn taking an nerdy, much more younger priest as her lover? And I think at the beginning they were very insecure about how people would react to their relationship after the oh so perfect and charismatic Sheridan

14. Is 4 still together?

In canon they never got together, but if they ever did, I think they would stay together. Both of them would need therapy for their own reasons, but they would stay together.

15. Is 3 canon?

No, sadly not. Even if the actresses loved it and Mary Chieffo (L’Rells actress) even was the one to coin the ship name

16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?

Either Data and Geordi for the above mentioned reasons or Delenn and Neroon, because Neroon is one of the best warriors in the whole Warrior Caste and Delenn can use a fighting staff too, and is cunning, sly and ruthless.

17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 10’s ship?

Canon. Canon and fate did.

18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?

Well... I actually did that with Delenn/Lennier. The Babylon 5 fandom is the most toxic I was ever in, but I loved them to much to be able to leave. I was attacked, gaslighted and bombarded with a hate blog and meta of how wrong they are when Delenn/Sheridan is right there and has just as many problems as well. But they were part of me so I fought. Tried to concentrate on the positive. But since the fandom is so toxic that was not really possible. Somewhen I realized that no ship is worth to sacrifice my mental health for, no matter how important and how much I saw myself in it. It is fiction. It was not worth my live. That hurt, but it was necessary. I am so much happier now that I am not in the Babylon 5 fandom anymore.

19. Do you spend hours a day going through 1’s tumblr page?

I do. But thankfully, and finally, finally, it is an popular ship so I could just follow a lot of people who ship it too and there is always new art and meta and fic for it, its amazing. It is such a heaven after Babylon 5, even if there are of course some antis, but so much lesser.

20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she´d break them all forever, which ship would you choose?

I think L’Rell/Voq. They are cute, but they don’t represent anything and I love several other ships much more.

1. What is your favorite Disney Villain?

Honestly I don’t watch Disney or many Disney movies but I guess from Marvel, I like the Gibborim from Runaways.

2. If you could see ONE wonder of the world, which one would it be?

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

3. If you could live in ANY time period, which one would it be and why?

Honestly I don’t know, but I second that I’d like to live in the future if it’s a better place. Honestly, I might go back so that I was a teenager in the 90s so I could grow up without the influence of technology. I don’t think access to the internet has improved our lives, I think the world was better off before the modern surveillance state.

4. What is your favorite animal?

I love elephants. I think they have a really gentle nature and kind souls.

5. Would you rather watch a new blockbuster or read a new novel?

Fanfiction has ruined me for both bc of lack of depth in content and few interesting gay characters.

6. Cat or Dog person?

Cat person 100% I’ve seen dogs vomit and then eat their own vomit. And they also lick their genitals pretty much nonstop. I find it really difficult to deal w their energy too.

Not to hate on dogs, (absolutely not, I know how crazy white people get about dogs) but cats are much cleaner, cuter, and I vibe with their energy more.

7. Have you ever played D&D? If so, what’s your favorite class? If not, would you be willing to try?

I’ve tried a TTRPG but I don’t have a good enough grasp to have a favorite class. I did enjoy it!

8. If one of your OCs could be your RL best friend, who’d you choose and why?

I’d pick my warden, Aedan! He’s a kind and caring person and he fiercely protects the people he cares about.

9. What’s your favorite candy?

I like the grand majority of candies but I do like a good Hershey’s bar. I like that it’s somewhat bitter-tasting but smooth.

10. Coffee or Tea?

I’m the biggest coffee and tea snob in the whole world. I don’t drink but in college, I was experimenting w drinking (not for me) and I was a beer snob too (if you drink beer, try Yuengling’s black and tan).

I think I prefer coffee overall but I’ve recently been on a huge tea kick and I’ve been experimenting with different flavored teas. My current favorite is a mango black tea that I brew in a french press and leave in the fridge overnight, then I have it over ice the next day.

I also love Jasmine tea, usually I’ll have the first flush hot and then cool the second and third to drink in the same manner. I’m trying to lose weight so the tea kick this has been stopping me from drinking or eating sugar because it tastes so good.

I’m Indian so I also love chai - put 4 cardamom pods, crushed, and 2 cloves and bring 2-4 cups of water to a boil, add a 1/4 cup of red label or other indian tea (meant to be boiled, not steeped). I add a dash of chinese five spice. Let infuse at a low rolling boil for 5 mins, then add milk to your taste and let it come to a boil again. It’s so mf good, but I’m on a diet soooo

I also love boba and if you haven’t had it before, you absolutely have to try it. I love thai tea boba and I think rose milk at most places tends to be quite good and has a light, crisp flavor.

I’m a big espresso fan, and I spent the first $50 i ever made on a refurbished De’Longhi espresso machine on ebay. I love cafe noisette made with a light Ethiopian roast and a healthy dose of sugar to boot, I drink it like a dessert. I’m partial to medium-to-darker drip roasts like a Kenyan or Sumatran brew and I drink it au lait. I like coffee that can stand up to cream or milk well but I hate burnt tasting coffee, thus sumatran >> french roast these days. I drink medium roasts with a light cream or milk.
