Multiverse of madness
Peggy: *waking up* what?
You: oh, hey. Welcome back
Peggy: *looks around, sees the other members of the illuminati unconscious but intact. And alive. She puts her hands on her stomach, where she clearly felt the shield cutting her in half* How? who are you?
you: Wanda's girlfriend. Not that she knows yet *pouts*
Peggy just looks at you confused
you: I just go around undoing the things she does. She kills people, I bring people back. *you lean closer to her whispering in her ear* so she doesn't feel so guilty later. Not that she knows…yet.
Peggy: why not just stop her?
you: Stop? Wanda? Oh no, darling, it's impossible. Nobody stops Wanda, she needs to figure things out for herself. *you laugh* Stop her, funny. Anyway, nice to meet you. I really appreciate you more than Steve. I'm going now, they'll be fine *you wave to the other members as you leaves*
Carter just watches you walk away processing things. You understand. Coming back from the dead has this effect

2022 Year in Review
Tagged by @kitausuret hiiiii kita <3
1. Number of stories posted to AO3: 8, 2 of which are in-progress
2. Word count this year: 81,374
3. Fandoms I wrote for: MCU, Spider-Man (comics, Webb, Raimi), Spider-Gwen
4. Pairings: Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers, Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker/Michelle Jones, Michelle Jones/Gwen Stacy, Jian Mei/Peter Parker
5. Stories with the most...  Kudos: Long Road Home - 24 Bookmarks: Long Road Home - 3 Comment Threads: Long Road Home - 15 Complicate Me, Elevate Me (Symbiot3) - 8 Word Count: Long Road Home - 38,375
6. Work I'm most proud of... Amazing Jian Mei, hands down, no contest. I have never seen any take on a Chinese MJ Watson, or an Asian MJ Watson outside of Meera Jain, who hasn’t had a lot of page time and has had zero screen time (a travesty). So, I rolled up my sleeves and tackled it myself, and I’m doing my absolute best to represent Chinese and Asian culture and traditions and everything and still make her MJ Watson, and y’know what? I kinda like what I’ve done. And her story is just beginning! Please please please I am begging you please read it and comment and recomm to others; I really really really want more people to understand appreciate Chinese culture outside of the usual food
7. Work I'm least proud of: Probably Unfamiliar & Unknown, but only because I’m stuck tbh hahaha
8. A favorite review I received: Honestly, anytime I see a comment on Amazing Jian Mei I die of love, but if I had to pick a few (no way can I just pick one):
@weoffendedshadows ‘s comment on Chapter 1:
As promised - there is something amazing about seeing a character whom I have built up an image in my mind, of how they look, act, and just generally exist, and then is challenged so thoroughly and deeply that i can't help but look and see the same character in a new light. This is MJ, the same one I've been reading for years now, and I am loving how that same personality shows up here.
I also love the importance of culture within this story, how MJ struggles with the new world she finds herself in, while holding onto what is herself. I'm looking forward to seeing Peter here.
- Honestly after I had posted the first chapter I was so petrified that people would hate the idea of a Chinese MJ Watson, and to see this comment gave me so much encouragement and justified my decision to put this out. Because writing AJM isn’t pulled out from nowhere; I’m ethnically Chinese myself, and almost everything culture-specific is something I either experienced myself or something that I personally know has.
Em jeet ‘s comment on Chapter 6:
Oooh MJ got a lil spicy in this chapter! I adore the way you write her btw. She’s so perfectly wonderfully in character while also being Chinese. Idk, it’s just nice to see you let her be both, because some people can only manage one or the other.
Good lord, but the tension building (in her head) between her and Peter is fantastic. I hope to get a confession— Spider-Man or otherwise— at some point
- Em has been one of my more consistent commentators, but if I had to pick one this is it. The balance between being Chinese and being recognizably MJ Watson is, well, something I had dearly hoped I hit, and to see someone recognize my efforts? No words
@kitausuret ‘s comment on Chapter 7:
WHEW finally I made it to the last of the updates!
Oh! I forgot to mention earlier I think it's interesting that Liz is a journalist in your universe! I wonder if she's ever worked with Betty, or Robbie, or anyone kind of adjacent to the Bugle fam like Ben Urich. Fascinating stuff!
I like the conversation between May and Mei, it's so good. May knowing Peter's secret identity is also kind of a neat development here, but at least it sounds like here she didn't discover her nephew was Spider-Man because he was collapsed half-dead in her home. Little things~!
Aaaaaand of course, gotta love that little bit of tension between Peter and Mei. It's fate. ;)
Oh, one more thing: what inspired you to have Mei pursue medicine, out of curiosity? I really liked in 616 how MJ started pursuing a psychology degree so that's what I immediately thought of, but I love learning where people pull inspiration from. 💖
- @kitausuret is completely unhinged because of Mei, but this comment dug deeply to me, because she picked up something so important - the medicine thing, which is an important cultural discussion. I am so, so, so glad she picked up on how important this was to me <3
9. A time when writing was really, really hard: It generally is hard because I think the fandom is dry right now, but two periods in particular tested me: the first is right now with regard specifically to Unfamiliar and Unknown, simply because I find writing a Far From Home adaptation Very Hard. The second was when I was writing that certain scene in Chapter 3 of Amazing Jian Mei - you’ll understand what scene I refer to if/when you read it (although I will not judge you if you wish to skip it), but I literally cried while writing it and was crying myself to sleep that night.
10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: Hmm not sure. I’ll have to think about this one.
11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: I’m not sure I can call it my absolute favorite, but this scene from Chapter 1 of Amazing Jian Mei is definitely up there:
Mei blinked and focused on the screen, where, truth be told, she had the fewest requests from Rainbow’s list of models. Part of it was undoubtedly because she was new, but… “I do not understand what that has to do with my name.”
Andy grimaced, looking visibly uncomfortable. “Mei, in my years working, I’ve noticed that models with more, uh, Western names, tend to get more bookings. It’s why I changed my stage name myself; my real surname is Karim. I’m an American citizen, was born and raised here, and Andrew Joseph are my real given names, but for a while it was difficult for me to find bookings with an Arabic surname, so I picked O’Conner from a phone book. In the same way, Jian Mei is an obviously Chinese name, so…” he spread his hands helplessly. “I don’t like it either, Mei, but it’s an option I recommend.”
Mei nodded. “Dawn told me something similar, but she only said it was because she was tired of people mispronouncing her name.”
Andy nodded. “She chose Dawn from her surname.”
Mei raised both eyebrows. The surname 萧 had absolutely nothing to do with the word “dawn”, but thinking about it, she realized that the almost identically-pronounced 晓 (minus the vastly different intonation, which any Chinese speaker would immediately pinpoint, but which most non-speakers would probably hardly notice) translated to Dawn. So… “What if I make a stage name similar to mine?”
Andy nodded. “Most non-speakers would butcher your name into Jane May, which is a start.”
Mei thought about it. “Is that a good name?”
Andy rubbed his chin in thought. “It’s just, they’re both first names, and they’re not so catchy.”
“How about May first? It is the correct pronunciation of my real name anyway.”
“Hmm,” Andy was visibly perking up, and looking intensely at Mei (which gaze, however, she didn’t mind; unlike the other gazes she was used to, Andy’s was pure thought and focus and creativity). “May Jane, May Jane. It’s still a little softer than I’m used to, but-ah!” A snap of the fingers. “How do you feel about Mary?”
Mei thought about it. “Mary Jane is not so far from May Jane.”
“Mary Jane, Mary Jane, yes, I can see it.” Then she saw Andy realize something, as his shoulders slumped and his eyes defocused. “But that can’t be just it, because Mary Jane can also be slang for marijuana, and we don’t want your stage name to be immediately associated with, well, that.”
Mei sat back and pursed her lips. “How about if we add something to Mary Jane?”
Andy’s eyes refocused on her face. “Like a third name? Something Western? Yes, yes, that could work. Do you like anything?”
Mei slumped. This was hard; she didn’t know that many Western surnames that she liked. Chewing her lip, she looked around Andy’s office for inspiration, and finding none, thought about the contents of her bag-ah.
Mei smiled, and Andy immediately noticed.
“What is it?”
She reached into her bag, pulled out the book she had bought the previous week, and showed it to Andy, who tilted his head to one side in puzzlement. “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes? Mary Jane Holmes?”
Still smiling, Mei shook her head. “I was actually thinking of Dr. Watson.”
Andy’s eyes lit up in excitement. “Yes, yes, yes, it’s excellent. Excellent! A good addition to our team.” Rapidly, Andy snatched back his laptop and started typing furiously, then hit the enter key and leaned back. “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the newest model of Rainbow International, miss Mary Jane Watson.”
Letting a grin spread across her face to match the one on Andy’s, and feeling a surge of confidence and adventurousness, Mei stood up and reached a hand across the table. “You can also call me MJ.”
12. How did you grow as a writer this year: I started writing. I have never written anything before, except for the usual creative writing classes way back in high school and college, which were all more than a decade in the past.
13. How do you hope to grow next year: If I can continue bringing Mei to the page that’ll be the greatest thing ever.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year: Too many to mention. Uhh. @seek--rest of course, @promiseofthepremise, @jenniboo311, @pepperminttegan @kitausuret @dyde21 @evil-pony @mysterycyclone @anarchyduck @inkpenparker @weezly14 @demigod-of-the-agni GOD I AM FORGETTING SOMEONE I’M SORRY I’M SORRY I’M SORRY PLEASE LMK I WILL ADD YOU HERE I’M SORRY
15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: Like I said. Everything culture-specific in Amazing Jian Mei either came from my personal experience, or from something experienced by someone I personally know
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: Just write. I know how scary it is. But I promise you, there will be that one person who reads it and loves it and tells you that they love it, and you’ll fall in love.
17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I’m looking forward to continuing Amazing Jian Mei (not sure so much about finishing, but definitely continuing). Plus another couple ideas marinating.
18. Tag some writers whose answers you’d like to read: I think everyone I tagged has already answered this but again if I forgot to tag you as a positive influence please don’t pitchfork me I am sorry again
And before I forget:
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR BELOVED @seek--rest !!!!!

Just saw Multi-verse of Madness wanted to put down my thoughts.
Potential spoilers but I'll try to avoid them
Ugh America Chevez great a failed comic book character that was insufferable.
Strange a bit sinister and tries to take AC power interesting
Big fan of Strange, loved Christine sad that she moved on but completely understand, bit rude to invite him to the wedding though. He handled it well.
AC already annoying me.
Wong finally gets to show how kickass he is. All about that.
Oh Wanda!!! 😍🥰😘
Oh Wanda. 😢😭
Oh Wanda!!
Tumblr media
Oooh they're actually letting her be a villain. None of that bullshit from Monica at the end of WandaVision?
why is there a minotaur? Is this something I missed from the Disney+ stuff?
America is still pretty annoying but not as bad as before, also no where near as bad as the comics.
wanda decimating kamartage (don't know how to spell it) nice you may be the villain but you're Still my fave with Steve gone.
use that reflection!
Coming out of the gong like the girl from the Ring, definitely love the horror themes.
Interesting world where the color pallet is switch the drab and grayscale are colorful and covered in plants. Fashion is fairly uniform and grayscale.
Mordo is a bitch, still, I'm okay with this.
oooooohh redder red head love interest movie you get me
Ultron bots? Wanda won't like that
cool handcuffs I want a set for totally not kinky reasons.
okay Black Bolt cool, didn't watch Inhumans but I have read a bit about the character.
Oh look they can change her race but Captain Marvel is still an insufferably smug c*nt. Thos character is just so unlikeable to so many people Disney just needs to cut their losses and scrap her. I'm okay with even being gaslighted that she was ever a part of the MCU
hey Mr. Fantastic! Didn't watch your movie because 19th reboot but I do like you John.
Hello Peggy, love you, not as much as I love Steve and although I wasn't a fan of him staying in the past I'am so happy you got your dance. And the Captain Carter angle is nice. I do know about that what if!
PROF. X IN THE 90S CARTOON CHAIR!!!!!!!! SIR PATRICK STEWART!!!!!! Was this in the trailers I didn't watch them for this specific reason this is amazing.
Oh Wanda, now I'm happy, sad, excited for a fight and scareroused.
Oh Wanda. That was a fantastic Villain line but how far you have fallen. Poor Susan
Black Bolt goes down a bit to easy but Wanda is just that powerful, was definitely freaky so it gets a pass.
Just made the stretch man into spaghetti. Brutal. Love it.
Ugh really. These two get an epic fight scene. This was so predictable, of course the men get put down like dogs and the women get to shine even though it makes no fucking sense. Carter should have been toast immediately and Captain Marvel wouldn't have lasted much longer.
God can't Peggy have her own thing without stealing everything from Steve? It's not a fucking homage or call back, let her be her own fucking character without giving her his lines! It doesn't fit her character at all. She wasn't the scrawny and sickly man living in the 30s and 40s looked down on everyone and getting the shit kicked out of him all the time for standing up for what was right before he had the body to back it up.
Captain Marvel isn't this strong, she can't put this kind of fight against Wanda. Just let her stay dead. The theater was happy when she died. And of course we can show the men blowing up their brains and being cut apart while screaming I agony but the women just get a pretty close up and an off camera crushing where the arm falls over to signify death. Where is the equality? a woman can die just as gruesomely as a man can.
Awww poor real Wanda trapped under the rubble from the building. My poor girl I know you won't but please save her Prof.
Oh shit that jump scare got me.
chase sequence with a limping and "bloodied" (oil) Wanda with perfect horror movie visuals? Fantastic!
Wanda2 is released by DarkholmWanda and first thought is about her children! Fantastic mother and I love her more.
I love Wong
you know AC hasn't actually been to bad, the scene from her memory was a bit too focused on the fact that she has two moms. I knew that she did and it's whatever but treat them like they were straight if you want it to be "normalized". A straightest of parents wouldn't have been pointed out like that. Being normalized does not mean going !LOOK TWO MOMS!!! Just have them be there and don't draw attention to it.
Ooh fourth wall break by Wanda very nice.
Heh, fight music
Zombie!Strange very nice. Though way too much decay. He's been dead for like 24 hours max.
hmmm Christine knows mystical artifacts she has a relationship while Stephen was a sorcerer and actively took part in that part of his life. So nice.
Hmmm third eye is freaky.
Wong just rolls with Strange's nonsense and I love it.
yay more of the nonsense the power was always inside of you and you just didn't know you were already perfect. Just let her keep struggling but in her desperation get it right. So that she can build from there later. It's okay to let your character struggle and be flawed. That's why so many female characters suck. They don't get to have flaws that make them "real" and relatable. Instead they're just "quirky" or held back. It's boring and a disservice to the characters. America has been fine up to this point. Sure I'm not a great fan of her but I'm willing to give the character a chance despite how repulsive the comic version was. Despite the laziness of her being the only one and that fer some reason she is always louder than all the other characters. It's like the actress is always projecting a bit too much.
Two Wanda's, seeing how she looks in her children's eyes. The best way for this to end. Plus Wanda2 showing compassion to the other Wanda is amazing after everything and being that amazing example to her sons. See that's a strong female character in Wanda2 and it's not forced at all.
Wanda destroys all Darkholm in the Multiverse. Going out like a true hero. I hope so much that that isn't the last we see of Wanda. She deserves a bigger exit as a character. Maybe Wanda2 helps out later?
Damn it Disney you couldn't help yourself. Ac is a special one of a kind girl, the only AC in the Multiverse, able to punch through the multiverse and doesn't cause incursions, but is also going to be a sorcerer. Why? Why can't she just have her own powers?
Hello freaky consequences.
Final thought... Good movie as a whole. America Chavez not as bad as expected but doesn't fit with the tone of the movie very well despite her powers, Can we keep Captain Marvel dead and not just not have the character in the MCU anymore, especially the Brie Larson one? If Wanda really is gone I'm not sure how much more MCU I can do. Strange is the only one I'm curious about anymore which is heartbreaking because Thor was my #3 behind Steve Rogers and Wanda but I have almost zero excitement for L+T.

In the time that it took for us to make the long trek through the hills and woods, I had recounted the events of the past few months to Bucky. He walked beside me, holding my hand the whole time. He listened intently, asking questions when I paused for a breath. When I finished, Bucky was a little upset. Not at the fact that I had willfully allowed myself to be experimented on, but because I had joined a secret Government agency almost right out of high school and didn’t tell anyone.
I told him that I was sorry and that I would have told him if I hadn't been contractually obligated to keep it a highly kept secret. He forgave me quickly, saying that the only reason he was okay with it was that it allowed me to be able to see him. I shook my head lightheartedly. Bucky never was able to stay upset with me for long.
The sun had come up by the time our group made it back to the base camp. As we got closer and closer, I could feel a buzz of life going through the men. They were excited to be back in safe territory. The soldiers in the camp all came running to greet us as we made our way up the road. They all stood around us and cheered. Steve, Bucky, and I kept walking through the camp towards Coronel Phillips’ tent. The cheering quieted as we were met by the Coronel several yards away from the tents. Peggy was following closely behind the Coronel.
“Sir. Some of these men are in need of medical attention immediately.” Steve started. “We would also like to offer ourselves up for disciplinary action.” He glanced back at me as he made the comment. I gave him a nod in agreement. I didn’t fear the consequences, we had done the right thing and that was all that mattered.
“That won’t be necessary.” Philips started and walked away.
More and more soldiers continued to gather around us until all I could see were cheering men. Loudly one of them shouted, “Let’s hear it for Captain America!” The crowd went into an uproar at that, and it seemed like everyone started to clap Steve on the back. Bucky and Steve gave one another a quick look before they started to argue with the men that I had also helped in rescuing them, but none of them would listen.
“Guys stop it, it doesn't matter if they believe I helped or not,” I stepped in before their arguments could get heated.
“Don’t say that. I couldn’t have done any of this without you, they need to know who helped get them to freedom.” Steve argued.
"Yeah Doll, they should know who helped save them,” Bucky chimed in.
I just stood there looking at them. “I don’t care if they believe I helped or not, just let it go. I really only went to find out what happened to Bucky, and since he's okay, I’m content.” I started walking away from the crowd after that, Bucky not far on my heels. “Let's go, Buck,” I stuck out my hand to grab onto his, “I’m ready for a shower and some good sleep.”
Tumblr media
After a few days of recuperation, the camp was packed up. Most of the 107th, high commanding officers, and Steve, Bucky, and I, were taken back to London. While the rest of the base went onwards, closer to the front lines.
Steve and I were brought to one of the several secret underground bases to relay all the information we could remember about the night we took down the HYDRA base. Steve was currently marking the locations of other HYDRA bases he had seen on a map hanging in Zola’s office. I sat off to the side of the table watching quietly, not really paying attention. I was brought back to reality as the map was yanked out from under my elbow. I looked up and noticed Steve and Peggy walking away. I quickly got up and followed them over to the large map laid out in the center of the room.
“These are all of the weapons factories that we know about. Sergeant Barnes said that they ship all the parts out to another facility that wasn't shown on the maps.” Steve informs Peggy and Coronel Phillips.
“Agent Carter, get in touch with MI6, I want all allied eyes looking for the main base,” Philips commanded.
“What about us Coronel?” I questioned.
“We are going to go after Johann Schmidt. What do you call Captain Rogers? It’s your map, can you wipe HYDRA off it?”
“Yes Sir, I do. I’ll just need a team to do it.” Steve confirmed.
“We already have the men picked out.”
“With all due respect Coronel, I do too, and it includes my sister.”
Tumblr media
Later that night Peggy and I were dressing up to go out. All the men had chosen to go to the bars and we both took this as a chance to at least pretend for a little while that the war wasn’t going on. I heard Peggy walking into the room as I finished pinning a few curls at the back of my head.
“How do I look?” She asked. I gasped as I turned around, I had never seen her in anything but the military blouse and skirt. The red knee-length, fitted dress made her look more beautiful than she already was.
“You look stunning. What about me?” I stood up and did a small twirl. The fabric of the dark royal blue dress flared out slightly as I did so.
“You look absolutely gorgeous.” She smiled at me. I gave her one back.
“We should be on our way, wouldn't want to keep the boys waiting.”
Tumblr media
I could hear the music from the sidewalk as we approached the bar. Peggy pushed open the door and led us in. We had walked through several rooms before the singing of the soldiers slowly came to a stop and everyone glanced in our direction. I spotted Bucky and Steve sitting at the bar. They both stood when they saw Peggy and me. Bucky had the biggest smile on his face as he came towards me.
“You look beautiful tonight.” he leaned in to kiss my cheek. I pulled away in feign offense.
“Just tonight?”
“You know what I meant.” he gently shoved my arm. I laughed and wrapped my hand around his neck to pull him in for a light peck on the lips.
Peggy had moved closer to Steve before she explained to us that Stark had some new equipment for us to try out tomorrow morning. Steve and I had only just agreed to be at the base when Bucky was dragging me over to a small open space to dance.
He wrapped his hands around my waist and I placed mine around his neck, pulling us closer together. We swayed to the gentle music, completely enamored with one another. His under eyes were still dark from the exhaustion he faced at the Hydra base. He looked completely drained.
“Bucky, Sweetheart, you look absolutely exhausted. Why don’t we go back to the hotel where they have me set up? I’m sure that bed is way more comfortable than those cots they make you sleep in on base.” I suggested.
He pulled away slightly, only enough to look down into my eyes. “We can in a bit. I just want to have a little mundaneness before the whole ‘take HYDRA down’ mission starts.” He pulled me back in and softly pressed his lips to the top of my head.
I stay quiet after that and just enjoy being wrapped in his arms, swaying to the music. It had been months since anything remotely normal had happened in my life. We danced to three more songs before Bucky decided he was ready to leave. When the last song ended we made our way over to where Steve was sitting.
“Hey, we’re going to head out. He’s in desperate need of sleep and I'm taking him back to my hotel room for the night,” I told Steve, who stood up and shook his head.
“No, I'm not letting that happen,” He argued.
“Steve relax, nothings going to happen, we’re just sleeping.”
“I said no. No boys, not even if you are engaged.”
“Sorry but he's been sleeping in my room with me for the past two years so..” I trailed off.
“Two years?” He raised his voice a little. “How long has this been going on?”
“Calm down, there's no need to yell. We got engaged two years ago, in October. I meant to tell you, I really did, but I just could never find the right time. I was even going to tell you when we started dating but I knew how you thought Bucky was when it came to relationships. I can assure you he has been nothing less than loving, and kind to me. I’m sorry that we kept this from you and I hope you understand.”
Steve just stood there, processing what I had just told him.
“Look, Steve, I really do love her, and I know I should have asked for your permission first before I proposed but it just happened that way. I just, I just love her so much and I can’t imagine life without her by my side. So I’m asking now if I have your permission.”
Steve crosses his arms and looks between the two of us. He stayed quiet for several seconds before he replied. “I give you my permission, only because I trust my sister's judgment and I know you’ll be able to take care of her, not that she can't take care of herself.”
“I promise I’ll take care of her until I die. Once this God-forsaken war is over we were planning on having the wedding.”
“Okay, but I still don’t want you two sleeping in the same room alone.”
“Come on Steve, I said we weren’t going to do anything.” I gave out a small chuckle, thankful that the whole argument had blown over quickly. “Let’s go, Buck.” I pulled on Bucky's hand and headed to the entrance doors. I turned back to Steve and gave him a wave before going through the door.
The walk to the hotel was short and quiet. When we reached the building, Bucky denied that he was tired the whole way up to my room, but once we made it through the door and he had taken off his uniform he was laid out cold on the bed. I covered him up with the duvet before I went to the ensuite bathroom to get myself ready for bed.
When I finally laid down next to Bucky, I felt him automatically gravitate to my side. His arm came to rest around me and he buried his head in my chest. I just smiled and gently played with his hair until I also fell into a deep sleep.
Early that morning, before the sun had risen, I woke up to Bucky violently tossing and turning in his sleep. I quickly sat up to try and calm him down.
“Bucky, hey, I’m right here,” I whispered to him as I gently stroked his hair. In his sleep, he held onto my waist tighter. All I could do was sit there and wait for him to wake up. His nightmare went on for what seemed like forever before he finally woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. He picked himself up from his stomach and sat up, throwing his legs over the edge of the bed, and then he placed his head in his hands.
I crawled my way over behind him and placed my hands on his bare shoulders. He stayed quiet as I massaged away the knots. We stayed like this for a while before he placed his hands on mine, stopping my movements. I then wrapped my arms around him and gave him a tight, comforting hug.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked. He just shook his head and let out a shaky breath. I let go of him when I felt him start to scoot himself back up into the bed. I watched him wearily lay down on his back. He held his arms out to me motioning for me to come to him and I did. Nestling into his side I felt him start to slowly twirl the ends of my hair around his fingers.
“I’m sorry I woke you up.” He whispered into my hair.
“It’s alright. I would rather you wake me up than for you to have to deal with the nightmares by yourself.”
“I love you, you know that?”
“You may have mentioned it on occasion.” I laughed. “I love you too. Do you think you can get back to sleep?”
“I think I’ll sit up for a bit, you go ahead and get some rest.”
“Okay, but if you need someone to talk to, don't be afraid to wake me up. I mean it.” I shut my eyes and snuggled in closer to him. His breathing slowly went back to normal and I fell back to sleep to the rise and fall of his chest and the sound of his heart beating.
Tumblr media
Later, when the city had fully come alive, Bucky and I got dressed and went our separate ways for the day. He went with me to the entrance doors of the hotel and kissed me goodbye before he turned to walk down the street. I watched him walk a way before he turned and gave me a wave. I waved back before I started down the opposite street.
The base was only a ten-minute walk from the hotel so I made it in no time. Going through the doors I made my way down to Howard’s lab. I spotted Howard and Steve talking at a table with several shields on it. I watched as Steve bent over and grabbed one from the bottom shelf. Peggy came into view as I started down the small set of stairs into the room. She came to a stop when Steve asked for her thoughts on the shield he was holding. She grabbed one of the guns from the table beside her and shot at the shield. The bullets ricocheted to the ground and Peggy stated that it in fact worked. She sat the gun back down and walked towards Steve and turned sharply now walking at me. When she got within arms distance of me I stopped her.
“What was that all about?” I gave her a quizzical look.
She just gave me a passive-aggressive smile and said, “Ask your brother.” She stormed out of the room after that, leaving me to interrogate Steve.
“Steve, what did you do?”
“I have no clue.” he exasperated.
“Well, you had to have done something. What happened before I got here?”
“Well, I was waiting to come see Howard when this one lady kissed me, and then Agent Carter started acting weird after that.” I gave him a look of defeated astonishment and brought my hand up to rub my temples.
“God Steve you’re so clueless. That’s literally why she's upset.”
“But why does that matter?”
“Because Steve, she likes you and you kissed someone else right in front of her.”
He stood there with his mouth gaping. “Oh.”
“Yeah, oh. I can’t believe you did that.” I shook my head. I stepped past him and went over to the other side of the table where Howard was. “Now, what's all this about having some equipment to try out?”
Howard turned to the table that was behind us and grabbed a long metal staff. He turned back to face me, holding out the staph. I took it from his hands and gave it a small twirl. “Stark, what's so special about a staff?”
“It isn’t just any staff, it's a two-piece bo staff. I had a talk with some of the trainers at the base in New York and they said you were exceptionally skilled with it. It's made from one of the rarest metals on the planet. It's practically indestructible.” He gave me a look. “Well don’t just stand there Rogers, give it a try.”
Strolling over to a section of the lab that was free of people. I started to spin the staff in my hands, going faster and faster. Using the momentum from the spinning I lunged forward and struck the staff at an imaginary opponent. I looked up and back at Howard and Steve.
“It’s a little lighter than what I’m used to, but it will work.”
“I'm glad it will work out. It took me forever to acquire a metal like that.”
Steve came over at that point, with a piece of folded paper in his hand. Holding it out to Howard he said, “I had some ideas for my suit. I even have some drawn sounds for hers as well.”
“I am not wearing a suit. I'll be just fine in my regular uniform.” I interjected.
“If you’re going to be coming with me to fight HYDRA then you need to wear a suit, for my peace of mind at least
“Fine, for your peace of mind.”

Ranking MCU Captain America figures
Before I begin, I want to clarify this is about my enjoyment of these characters and NOT who i think are the best morality or power wise. I specify because I think my first two entries will upset some people and I want to say, this list is NOT in order of how much I agree with these characters' values. I have a heavy favoritism towards theme and character interaction and that is where a lot of my enjoyment from media comes from. So, let's begin.
6. Captain America: CW, IW, and Endgame
Tumblr media
I'm separating Steve into two because around CW he starts making decisions that really frustrate me.
Now I do think there is a lot to like still! His conviction to his morals during the Accords and continuing arc about government distrust is great, his stand against Thanos in IW is amazing, he is a lot of fun to watch during the New York part of the time heist, and lifting Mjolnir was legit my best theater moment ever and i will NEVER forget it.
However, in CW he starts making some awful decisions. In CW, he kisses Sharon like, days after Peggy's funeral. While on it's own it's already kinda creepy, Endgame retroactively makes this even worse. It goes on to also have grave consequence because he and Sam asked Sharon to break the law for them and never followed through to help her, which was pretty awful of them. At least Sam tries to make it right in TFATWS, but since Steve left that wrong on Sharon never gets reconciled from him.
I also think that his decision to keep Bucky and Howard's history a secret from Tony was really, really stupid. While I side with him during the fight, the fact that Steve "doesn't like when his teammates withhold information" Rogers didn't tell Tony this then walked into a Winter Soldier facility with Bucky and Tony during the most strained time of their relationship was just begging for that conflict.
He is barely in IW and while his stand against Thanos is a great moment, his decision to not let Vision kill himself is very frustrating. "We don't trade lives" then he goes to Wakanda to let thousands of soldiers die while they try and get the stone out, really dude?
I don't think going back in time in Endgame was inherently a bad ending but things he does to make it happen really frustrates me. He shows no signs of mourning Bucky or Sam at all. And then for the sake of surprise for the audience, he never tells Sam what he's doing and that is so awful. Sam dedicates 4 years of his life helping Steve with a good portion of it being on the run. Sam was with Steve more during the present than ANYONE else. Then Steve just leaves without telling him and shows back up to drop a ton of responsibility on Sam that he didn't ask for. Now Sam is an amazing Cap but it's frustrating to see that a lot of TFATWS is fallout of Steve's bad decisions in these three movies.
5. Captain America: John Walker
Tumblr media
Now hold on, I hate this man. I think he does some awful things, so why is he above anyone else? Just because he isn't frustrating to me, he fits thematically and has good interactions with others in TFATWS.
His character really adds to the themes and discussions of white privilege, Supremacy, as well as how the US military treats their soldiers like shit, and I think he is an interesting character to watch as he starts out edging the line of evil and by the end of episode 4 crosses it. While I think Bucky was overall a bit too chummy with him in 6, I think it was all mostly in character for them. Sam and Bucky were up against 6 super soldiers and Batroc in a highly crowded city with lots of important people, it makes sense to me that they take his help in this scenario. They also never leave him alone which indicates distrust.
I also really like the moment where he drops the shield to help the truck. He is a shitty person but he is shown as a person who at least wants to do good, even though any challenge to that he goes off the rails. It is such a black and white scenario, help the truck of innocents, and I like that he does it. It also adds to the hatred of him as a person because it shows he clearly knows better but chooses to ignore it, which makes him even more despicable.
I think it is very important that a man like him bore the title of Captain America because it reminds us all that yes, it is very easy that a man like him represents America as it is and that we need to do better than him.
I like watching him and that's why he's above CW on Steve because he isn't making aggravatingly out of character decisions all of the time and he works very well within the themes of the show.
With me loving him in the context of TFATWS, in later appearances he does have a lot of potential to drop to last pretty easily, but as of now when he just is in that show, I appreciate his character a lot.
4. Red Guardian
Tumblr media
I kinda like this character and idk how to feel about it
He doesn't fit Black Widow very much so he is kinda low but I mean, he's just kinda fun. His story about Captain America and the USSR is pretty non-related to the others and rather undeveloped which is frustrating, and he does very little plot significant things. He leads Nat and Yelena to Melina and that's about it. He distracts Taskmaster for a while but he kinda is just getting tossed around until Melina shows up. He isn't very important.
But I do like what I see and do hope we see more of him. They never pretend he's a great person and I do appreciate that he gets called on it constantly. His knuckles having Karl Marx on them kills me and overall he's pretty humorous and fun to watch. He also has a few great moments thematically that I love. When he comforts Yelena after the dinner scene and sings her favorite song as a kid? So heartwarming. When he took Taskmaster's shield when fleeing the Red Room I laughed at his ridiculousness but it lead to a pretty great moment, when he throws the shield through the windshield without hesitation to save Melina. It's a great moment to show how he's letting go of his past and obsessions to be there for his family.
I hope we see more of him, his overall lack of importance and stereotypical behavior kinda holds him back but I see so much potential in him.
3. Agent Carter
Tumblr media
As of today she has been in exactly one 30 minute episode, but what I see I really like. Her laughter of surprise when she takes the tesseract is really endearing, her sword and muscles and height make my wlw heart patter, and I do like the difference in her relationship with Steve in this universe, where they both are of incredible capabilities but neither are given any respect for how they were born. We get that in TFA too but I really like that it is a constant theme in this iteration while in TFA it gets dropped a bit after Steve receives the serum.
There is very little of her so I can't really put her higher yet, but given more time she very well may rise up on this list but she had an excellent first showing.
2. Pre-CW Captain America: Steve Rogers
Tumblr media
This man is a joy.
He is such an endearing scrappy little guy in the beginning of TFA and I love his commitment to doing the right thing. He still very much acts like a guy who just gained 120 pounds of muscle during that movie and it's endearing. The way he grows into his own skin in TWS is amazing as we see him really step in to what he can accomplish physically as well as his authority and leadership.
His Whedonisms in the first two Avengers films kinda bug me, they treat him like an old man when he isn't. Biologically he's like, early 30's at most here. He grew up as a fighter in Brooklyn then served in the military, he wouldn't care if his teammates swear, but overall it's tolerable.
I LOVE this man's commitment to transparency. He struggles when allies are not transparent and he shows nothing but transparency and I love that that is a constant for him (which is why I separate him from CW on)
Everyone loves this guy and over 90% of criticisms I see for him come after AoU, and that's for good reason, this guy is so loveable.
1. Captain America: Sam Wilson
Tumblr media
He's so good, guys
I want to talk about Sam before the suit because he is amazing before it. He runs counseling for veterans, a profession very becoming of a superhero and it speaks to his incredible empathy and compassion that is on full display. I also think the fact that he dedicated 2 years to finding Bucky is not appreciated enough. Sure he was following Steve but he still spent 2 years trying to find Bucky, a person who tried to murder him. Yet he understands it isn't Bucky's fault and tries to help him anyway. I also really like that he is the first to speak out against the Accords. He doesn't wait for Steve or anyone else, he sees red flags and he is out and I really, really love that about him.
Then I love how long it takes for him to choose to become Cap and how much he contemplates it. He has to contemplate the legacy of Steve, if he wants to wear the symbol of this country, the pressures of being a black man as Cap, the legacy that John added to it, the pressures from Bucky and the pressures from Isaiah, and also his own legacy he carved for himself as the Falcon. It's a huge decision with a lot of weight and so many people pressuring him but he takes his time and chooses what is right for him, and I really love that about him. These other characters are all Caps from near the start but he transitions into one after years of knowing him as the Falcon and I love that he doesn't take this decision lightly.
Also as Cap he's just really cool. His decisions to not take the serum as well as try like hell to get Karli to step down speak to his humility and compassion. And while many describe his speech as bland it's still uniquely him. Yes the speech doesn't solve any problems but that isn't what he's doing, he's asking America and the world to get to actually solving them and that is an aspect of him we don't see much since Steve's propaganda days, his direct relation to the public.
Also his suit and wings are just awesome, I argue his action is the most fun to watch out of any of these characters.
Anyway yeah that's the list, I know people won't agree with me so let's try and keep discussion civil, alright?
