Mandalorian Season 3 Predictions:
(Please keep in mind that I don’t want all of these things to happen, in fact some of these predictions physically pain me, but I cannot deny my intuition)
Deconstruction of Din’s religious beliefs. I’m very fearful that this new season will result in some very bad and tone deaf commentary about religion and religious face covering/modesty. As Din encounters other Mandalorian sects, I fear that we may get the implication that his clan and their face covering is “restrictive” or worse, his clan is villainized for their structure/beliefs.
Minor retcons for The Book of Boba Fett. I’m expecting inconsistent details, and just a general glazing over of Book of Boba Fett as the writers pray that people don’t remember it.
Too many cameos.
Mandalorian cultural rewrites that completely erase the Polynesian influences, or worse, Mandalorian cultural rewrites that appropriate the Polynesian influences in a way so racist that it rivals the racism written by Karen Traviss.
Luke Skywalker again.
A major legends character is brought back into canon, for good or ill. My best guess is Jaster Mereel, since he was recently kinda referenced in “The Tragedy” with part of his name being seen in Boba Fett’s armor.
So many Clone Wars references. Maybe too many. I’m guessing a Satine reference will be present.
Old Mandalorians don’t exist anymore. I hope this doesn’t happen, but I have a feeling that the clan known as the Old Mandalorians will be replaced by something else.
Lightsaber vs Darksaber fight.
Thrawn????
Clone Trooper cameo. This one is unlikely, but I’m still putting it on here because I want it so bad. Temuera bestie, please come back-

i told myself i would stop being hater but the problem is over the fact that temuera morrison was supposed to show up as boba fett in season 3 of the mandalorian (RIGHT FULLY SO MIGHT I INCLUDE BECAUSE THEY STOLE EPISODES AWAY FROM HIM IN HIS OWN SHOW) and then it gets revealed that he didn't even get a call to come back??
you know what? i'm going to say it. it feels racist. everything recently feels racist. so you're going to take time away from the mandalorian's protagonist, played by a latino man, and give the spotlight to a white lady who's character has been OPENLY racist towards others (ESPECIALLY BOBA FETT) and give her the spotlight and make her ruler based off a technicality only AFTER she's lost it multiple times before? and then on top of that- you're gonna make a shitty ahmed best cameo ONE time that didn't even do him justice- AND THEN you're NOT going to include BOBA FUCKING FETT?? AND ANOTHER THING- YOU'VE WHITEWASHED THE BAD BATCH SO FUCKING MUCH THEY DON'T EVEN RESEMBLE TEMUERA AT ALL???? AND ALSO THAT ONE THING WHERE DISNEY CUT COMMANDER CODYS ROLE IN THE KENOBI SHOW??? DO YOU FUCKING UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH YOU'RE TAKING AWAY RIGHT NOW??
so you take out two episodes away from boba's story in his own show. and then boba fett doesn't even get to show up in season 3 of the mandalorian. you take his role away, and then give the spotlight to bo-katan (i'm not even a bo-katan hater btw), who was openly racist towards boba because he was a clone and said that he wasn't deserving of his fathers armor. and then temuera morrison speaks up about it and NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING?? do you understand how fucking horrible that is? you've taken away so much from him and his influence on star wars- ESPECIALLY the influence on mandalorian culture from polynesian culture. like. i don't know how else to say this. i really don't. but it just feels so fucking racist. this is so wrong.

So, I saw my brother made a ship request for The Bad Batch (this is my first time doing one, so I'm a bit nervous), and I decided to do one, too. So, I'm 5'6 with blue eyes and blonde hair in a ponytail. I love reading, and making art and writing. I love fantasy and science-fiction stuff. I love having shirts that the sleeves go over my fingers, and I'm autistic. I hyperfixate ALOT (especially with Star Wars, specifically The Bad Batch) and I have three cats. Can't wait to see the results! ^^
(also requested SFW, and specified cisgender straight female)
I'm glad to be your first ship request facilitator (if that's what it is... idk). Also, tell your cats I say hi!
I ship you with...
Tech!
Tumblr media
Tech is a very logic-oriented person. His mind is very organized, and does very well with structure. On the other hand, art is something he's never really understood, tried or, frankly, even liked. That changed when he met you. When he saw not only your art, but the way you interact with it, he became mesmerized. He wanted to know all about your creative process, and asks how he can be helpful. Tech loves getting you new supplies and doing research on which brands/types of supplies work best with your art styles. When you make a piece of art inspired by him, Tech doesn't have much of an outward reaction, but inside, he's bursting with emotion. He doesn't really understand what emotions he's feeling, but he is beyond grateful that you love him so much to put your time and energy into making something about him.
When growing up on Kamino, Tech and his brothers didn't have access to stories, especially not fantasy stories, so he was fascinated when you introduced him to the fantasy genre. It's well known that Tech ingests information about as well as Wrecker ingests food, so when you hand him one of your favorite fantasy novels, he becomes engrossed in it. Sometimes when he's reading, you'll hear him mutter to himself about what he thinks the characters' thought processes are in order to predict what they might do next, and it can be quite entertaining to listen to.
When Tech finds out you like to hyperfixate on The Bad Batch, he's initially a bit confused, partly because he had no idea that their stories were told here. He asks to watch the series, which you happily pull up. The two of you end up binge-watching the series in less than a week, and you love every second of it. Tech is a bit miffed that the animators don't accurately portray how he and his brothers look, but he keeps his remarks to a minimum while the show is actually playing. However, Tech does like to provide commentary about how certain events actually played out, as well as discussing his own thought processes from while he was in the moment. Ultimately, he's happy that you wanted to share one of your favorite fixations with him, because to him, sharing in one's obsessions is one of the best love languages.
-
Thanks for reading! If you want a ship request like this one, drop it in my ask box, and don't forget to reblog <3 it may take a little bit, but I'll get to it eventually!
Also, I haven't seen anything about #unwhitewashtbb recently, but on my page we support Temuera Morrison-accurate clone protrayals

Fictober Day 2: Dancing
After a job Boba and Ann go to celebrate at a cantina. Ann is into dancing, Boba is into watching.
Warnings: established relationship (sort of its complicated), alcohol consumption, references to sex (none is actually described or shown), fluff, flirting, set pre-sarlacc, soft boba, hint of jealous Boba, aro4aro relationship, not beta read Pairing: Boba Fett x Original Character (oc: Anneliese LeClaire) Wordcount: 3,433 a/n: "hey cy did you know its December-" shhhh time is an illusion. And I am slowly working back into writing more often (mental illness is a bitch). Also this is my first time actually posting a fic for Ann and Boba. Sometime next year I would like to finally begin posting the official longfic I've been working on for them, but till then y'all will get some one shots here and there. Important things to note: Ann and Boba are both written as aro and they're in an aro4aro relationship. Ann is taller (5'10) then Boba, I wrote Boba as being 5'7 (based off Temuera's height). This one shot is also set pre-sarlacc, some years before he falls in. Ok thats it. Enjoy boba being soft and sweet with ann. :3 Translations: Mesh'la = Beatuiful, Permacrete = concrete
The cantina has an awful smell. It’s an atrocious blend of booze and sweat that makes his nose scrunch with disgust. Though the music is somehow worse. It's too loud in his ears, blasting its obnoxious tunes while the colourful lights above flash to its beat. This place is more of a nightclub than a regular old cantina in his opinion. Neither of which he really enjoys on a good day if he’s honest, but still he sits there anyway. A cup of whiskey is in his hand, and his helmet set to the side, while his eyes are trained on nothing but her.
Ann is on the dance floor. There’s a smile on her face, and her own drink in hand. Her body moves and sways to the tunes almost naturally. Weaving among the others on the floor like there’s nowhere else she belongs.
She almost seems to thrive here. Unlike him who seems out of place, and preferring to sit in a dark corner at a lonely table. He just doesn’t understand the appeal that places like this give. He really isn’t a fan of blaring music and sweaty bodies in his personal space bumping together. Unless it's among the sheets at least—and even that he’s only fond of sometimes.
It doesn’t take long for someone to take an interest in her. Someone other than Boba of course. Someone always does when they come to these places. And he can feel himself pause mid-sip, as he watches the person move in closer to her. A bit too close for his liking. The two of them begin to dance together rather than alone, and he can’t help but watch a little more intensely now as they do. A pit of jealousy bubbling in his gut that he tries his best to ignore.
Boba knows he could just look away. Knows he doesn’t have to watch. Knows he has no reason to be jealous. Dancing like this means nothing to Ann. She barely even lets the other person in close enough touch. But despite the jealousy he fails miserably to keep back, there’s also something he finds enjoyable in watching her dance. He’s not even sure what it is. Maybe it has to do with how the lights reflect in her eyes as she laughs, or how beautiful her body moves with the others around her. But maybe, it is sometime else entirely.
Maybe it's because as he watches, he imagines it's him dancing with her instead.
Ann notices him watching, because of course she does, and she gives a smile. A teasing, but tiny grin, that's meant for him alone. It's a look that calms his envious thoughts, and leaves him suddenly feeling hot under his armor. The bit of jealousy he had fading into a rolling wave of desire. He almost smiles back. Almost. But he takes another sip of his drink instead. Let’s the bittersweet taste settle on his tongue to try and wash away his thoughts.
It doesn’t really work of course. Boba goes back to watching. Goes back to wondering—dreaming—about what it would be like if he was the one with her instead. He can’t seem to stop himself. Can’t stop the thoughts of how he’d look out there with her. How close she’d be to him. How breathtaking she looks. It's all swarming there in his head. A never ending tumble of thoughts and emotions that keeps him captivated with her.
At some point the person dancing with her leans closer to whisper in her ear, and suddenly he finds himself fighting off the subtle burn of jealousy again. He doesn’t even need to hear their words to know what they’re asking of her. He can’t even blame them for trying their luck, because he knows if he was in their position he would do the same. He’d honestly be surprised if they didn’t try to get Ann to come home with them that night. Not after how gorgeous she looked dancing in the nightclub lights.
Though unlike them, at least he knows he would actually have a chance. And that thought alone is what keeps him seated in place. Helps the jealousy fade again. Reminds him that he doesn't have to worry. Not with Ann. It makes him go back to just simply watching. Waiting for the answer from her that he already knows is coming.
Ann seems to say something back to them. Something he can’t quite make out, but he figures it out quickly when the dance partner finally looks his way. He almost wants to laugh at the face they make. Their smug grin drops immediately and the colour drains from their face. Most do once they realize just who exactly she’s with. His name carries weight, and if they don’t know him by name, they know him by face. Well. Helmet. And he’s made sure that trusty bucket of his is still clearly in sight.
The rumours about them have become more prevalent as of late too. People have begun to learn about Ann and Boba being… together. So to speak. The longer they worked alongside each other, the quicker the whispers among the criminal world about them being a couple had spread. Rumours about how they were more than just work partners catching before either could stop them in their place.
Boba doesn’t know how he feels about it all. At the start he hated them. Found Ann pretty annoying. Found the whispers about them together even more annoying. She was just a work partner. A skilled bounty hunter who he respected, and found he could deal with despite the irritability she caused. That was it. That's all they were.
Now it’s different of course. They’re a thing, but they’re also not a thing. Neither of them really know what they are to the other person. Especially not Boba. Most people would probably consider them lovers, and in a sense he supposes they are right to think so, but lovers feel almost too formal. But just friends? That seems to be too little. And just work partners at this point was just insulting. The bond they shared simply couldn’t be explained as being romantic or platonic. It was different. Unique. Something he hadn’t ever had with another person before.
Boba doesn’t really know what they are, but whatever it is makes Ann his, and makes him theirs. And he supposes that’s all that really matters. At least to them. To him.
The person Ann was with has vanished by the time he looks back, and she’s already returning to the table. Sliding into the seat across from him, with her cheeks flushed and a little grin on her face. “You scared away my dance partner.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He gives her a little smile in return, and taps his finger on the table. “I’ve just been here minding my business, and sipping at my drink.”
She only hums at first. Stealing his cup right from out of his hands before taking a sip herself. He doesn’t really mind. He can’t really when he sees how her nose scrunches at the taste. A deep chuckle leaving him at the sight.
“Whiskey? Again?” She grumbles. Disgusted.
“Of course.”
“You need better taste.” She lets him take the glass back, as he hums amused at her words.
“I think my taste is just fine.” He murmurs, glancing over the rim of the drink to flicker his gaze over her form, before he goes and takes another sip. She doesn’t seem to notice his once over, or if she does she doesn’t say so. “You all tired out?”
“I think I have a few more songs left.”
“Want me to get you another drink then?” He offers, and she agrees with a nod. He waves down a waiter. Orders another one for both of them. Something sweet and just barely alcoholic for her. She’s had more than enough to drink tonight, and he’s thankful she doesn’t seem to protest at the choice he makes. When he’s done and the waiter leaves he turns back to her. “Anything else I can do for you, mesh’la?”
The nickname rolls off easily from his tongue. She doesn’t know what it means, or at least he believes she doesn’t seem to know. He wouldn't be able to bare the thought if she did. Doesn’t think he could ever handle the teasing she’d subject him to if she found out he’s been calling her beautiful this whole time. He’d honestly rather die than have to deal with that.
She seems to consider his words for a moment, before finally leaning forward to rest on her arms. Her smile bright, and almost suggestive. “Well, you could come dance with me?”
It’s a question they’re both familiar with. One she always makes sure to ask when they’re out together and she’s in a dancing mood. Though his answer never seems to change. No matter how many times they come to these places, and no matter how desperately they both want him to say yes, his reply is always the same. Always.
“No.” He shakes his head, glancing down to his almost empty drink to avoid her gaze. He really needs another with the night they’re having. “You know I don’t dance.”
She hums again. Gives a little shrug. “Suit yourself.”
And that’s that. She’s not upset or mad. It’s just simple acceptance. An understanding that only she could ever seem to have for him.
When the waiter comes back with what he ordered for them, she stays to drink a little with him. Chatting about this and that. Nothing really in particular. It isn’t until she’s done her drink where she goes to leave again. Standing, she leans in close to him. Catching him off guard. She kisses his cheek before he can begin to question her over it. Her lips grazing his ear as she whispers.
“Enjoy the show Boba.”
Then with that Ann is gone again. They’re back to the dance floor before he can say anything else. Not even giving him any chance to deny that he’s been watching her. He finds himself feeling warm under his layers again. His desire still flickering in his gut. And despite it all he does exactly as she says. He begins watching her again. He enjoys the show she puts on for him. Sipping at his drink and eyeing her up as she dances the night away.
Thankfully it’s only a few more songs before they both leave. He wasn’t sure how much more he could have handled that place if he was being honest. Even if he was enjoying watching her.
Ann and him walk back to the ship in a comfortable silence. Not a word to be exchanged. She’s leaning closer to him. Fingers brushing with his as they walk, but never daring to take his hands into hers. She would never do so in public. Always making sure to never overstep with him. Something he’s always more than appreciated.
When they finally get back to the ship Bubbles the loth cat greets them happily. Meowing and rubbing against their legs, before Ann picks him up to coo at him. They both need to shower. So he lets her go first. He usually does. Sometimes they’ll shower together, but he doesn’t think he has the energy to deal with showering with Ann tonight. He has a feeling if he does it’ll end in more than just getting clean. And as fun as that can be, his exhaustion from their earlier job, combined with the alcohol raging through his system, is now proving much stronger. Maybe another night he’ll join her, but for now he just wants to relax.
When she’s in the refresher, he starts his typical nighttime routine. He has a list of things he does before bed every day. Doesn’t feel good going to sleep unless he does it. He does a quick check of the supplies, looks at the status of the ship, and then makes sure everything is where it's supposed to be on board. Once satisfied with that he goes to his weapon racks and storage. Puts away most of what he has on him before moving on to his room to start removing his armor. Making sure to give Bubbles a pat on his head in passing.
Once Ann is done it's his turn for a shower, and he couldn’t be happier for it. The warm water brings a much needed relief to his aching muscles, and the steam seems to clear his head. He can't help but stand there under the spray for a moment. He can still smell her soap in the air. It’s some type of flower. Rose, he thinks, though he can’t really be sure. He’s not exactly a floral expert after all. But whatever it may be is unmistakably her, and it has him wanting to finish cleaning himself quickly to join her  back in the other room.
Ann is on his bed when he finally gets out. She sleeps more in here with him than she ever does in her own bunk now. She’s braiding her hair at the moment, and he can’t help but notice she’s wearing one of his shirts again. Bubbles is curled next to her on the bed. Already fast asleep. His soft little purrs echoing quietly in the room.
He gets himself changed into some sleepwear. Just a simple shirt and pants. Doesn’t even bother to hide himself from her as he does. They both have already seen every inch of each other by this point. He doesn’t see the point in being shy now, and he can’t deny that he likes feeling her gaze shift to him as he dresses.
Boba spares her a glance over his shoulder, and she looks away. Acts as if she wasn’t just watching him change. It seems like he isn’t the only one who likes to watch the other, and he can’t help but smirk a little at the thought. He goes back to finishing his nightly routine after he’s done. Double checks that his armor and gear is stored away how he likes it, before doing his final round of the ship. It's like second nature at this point. The way he does this every night, and knows exactly how everything ought to be on board.
When he's back in the room again she’s now resting much more comfortably on the bed. She’s leaned back against a pillow while on her datapad. Reading probably if he were to guess. She likes reading. Does so every night before sleeping. He doesn’t dare ask what it’s about. The last time he did he had to listen to her ramble about the creation and history behind permacrete for hours. And as much as he enjoys seeing how excited she gets to talk about these things with him, he can’t say he wants to listen to something like that again right before sleeping.
Usually at this point he’d have her shift over so he can join her on the bed. It's kind of cramped if he’s honest. His sleeping compartment was clearly not meant for two people. They make it work though, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t like getting to be snuggled closely to Ann every night. But tonight something stops him before he goes over. There’s a weird feeling in his gut. Like something just isn’t quite right.
Boba mentally checks off everything from his routine in his head again. He hasn’t missed anything. Doesn’t think so at least. He never misses anything. But still he can’t shake that feeling. Ann must notice his unease too. She glances up at him from the datapad. Her brows creased as she eyes him.
He decides to do another walkthrough. Maybe if he does he’ll figure out what’s wrong. But he doesn’t even get to the door of his room before he stops again. From the corner of the eye he’s caught sight of his stereo. It’s an old thing that he surprises that still works. He plays it sometimes when working around the ship. Glancing from it to Ann, who is once again back to reading whatever is on her datapad, seems to make everything click into place. Suddenly the weird feeling is beginning to make sense.
Boba doesn’t really know what’s come over him, but before he can stop himself, he’s stepping over to the stereo to turn it on. The music is slow as it starts. It’s soft, gentle, and it’s nothing like what was playing at the cantina that night. It’s exactly what he needs though, and when he looks to her again to catch her gaze, he knows it's something she needed as well.
She raises a brow at him with a little grin on her face. He doesn’t say anything. Neither does she. He just holds out a hand to her. A silent question that both of them already know the answer to.
“I thought you didn’t dance.” She teases him, but still she takes his hand. Datapad already long forgotten on the bed.
Boba only lets out a huff at her words as he pulls her close to his chest. His hands slip down to her hips, while her own go to rest on his forearm. He can’t help but give her a gentle squeeze, before they settle into the music easily. Swaying together to the beat, and bodies pressed flushed together.
The two move like this for a while. Sometimes he twirls her, and she giggles, before he pulls her back in closely. Rocking with her to a gentle beat. At some point they both look at each other. Their noses brushing before their lips finally meet. The kiss is soft. It’s sweet. The thundering of his heart is so loud in his ears, and he briefly wonders if she can hear it too. Hopes she can’t, because if she can he would never live it down. He already knows that she would tease him mercilessly for the rest of his days.
When they pull back from the kiss he allows his lips to trail down over her exposed skin. Kissing and nipping at her shoulder gently. He can’t help but nuzzle himself into the crook of her neck. Pressing another soft kiss along the scarred skin there as he does. Her shoulder quickly becoming a pillow for him to lay his head against, as he can’t help but slump against her. He feels so very tired, and she is so very comfy. His eyes are heavy, and his body is sore. He wants nothing more than to lay down with her in their bed, but he still finds himself not wanting to leave her embrace quite yet.
“Someone's tired.” She whispers with a gentle hum. Her fingers coming to brush through his still damp hair.
Boba can only seem to grunt in reply at first. They’re still dancing, though they sway more gently than before now. Only little rocking movements led by Ann that has him almost lulled to sleep against her shoulder right there. At some point they stop swaying altogether. Just standing there with him snuggled into her embrace as the music still plays softly in the background.
Boba could spend the rest of his life here he thinks. Wrapped in Ann’s arms without a care in the Galaxy. Her toying with his hair and pressing sweet little kisses to his temple. In their arms he doesn’t have to worry about anything. Not clients or targets. Not the reputation he’s built and has to uphold. Here he isn’t Boba Fett, the fearsome and notorious bounty hunter. No, here with Ann he is just Boba. He’s just himself. And that is something he can only ever comfortably be with her.
After some time there, Ann goes to pull away, but his grip holds fast. His arms around her tight. When he looks up to her he sees how she smiles again. It’s cheeky, and there’s a teasing glint to her eyes that makes him warm under her gaze.
“A little longer.” He says quietly. Mumbling as he nuzzles back into her neck. “Please.”
She only hums back at first. Presses another kiss to his temple as she does. So soft and sweet. Her voice coming out just barely above a whisper when she finally replies back to him.
“A little longer.”
And with those words from her they're swaying again.

Hey, real talk: Are you really accusing people of "fetishizing a Maori man" because they draw Cody and Obi-wan as their canonically listed heights? The heights listed when you literally google "how tall is obi-wan in star wars" and "how tall are the clones in star wars". Really? You're just hopping straight to "If you don't headcanon something exactly like me, you're a bad person and I'm morally superior". That's pretty fucked up. Have fun with your false sense of moral superiority, though. Hope it's worth it to you.
I'm saying that the trend of drawing or writing the man of color as significantly larger and the white guy as significantly smaller is odd and could be rooted in pernicious stereotypes about men of color. I'm not saying this over fanart and fanfic with a height gap of an inch or 2, that would be silly. I'm talking about fan content where Cody is like a head taller and 50 pounds heavier and Obi-Wan is delicate and small and yaoified instead of, you know, a grown man who fights wars for a living just like Cody.
The thing is, the clones are very often fetishized in this fandom. There's nothing wrong with just finding Temuera Morrison sexy, he's a very attractive man, but if the fanwork is all about how big and buff and virile and manly he is compared to the white guy he's shipped with, that sets off some alarm bells. I also do my best to listen to fans of color, and I've seen several posts about how sometimes the clone thirsting crosses a line. So when a fan of color responds to my observations about this weird exaggerated size difference trend in Codywan fan works by expressing their frustration with the star wars fandom's racism, I'm not going to silence them or argue that their lived experiences are invalid.
I've never claimed to be morally superior. It's likely that I've read and reblogged and even written problematic stuff in the past, which is why I'm trying very hard to educate myself and be conscious of why these trends could be harmful to marginalized fans.
I'd also like to know why simply discussing possible racism in fandom made you feel like I was personally calling you a bad person. Calling someone a "good" or "bad" person over what fanfics they read is not a worthwhile discussion to me. I don't know you, and I don't care what fan content you or anyone else consumes or creates in your free time. People are allowed to express discomfort with broad fandom trends just as much as you're allowed to draw size difference Codywan fanart or whatever it is that you're upset about me discussing.

Important: This is not bad batch positive - This is how I personally think the characters should've been written in clone wars instead of the "regs" dynamic and white supremacy they had going on because a group of "desirable mutated" clones could've been a good concept to explore if Dave Filoni had employed ANY poc within the production and writing process. If you are a poc and/or have any of the disabilities mentioned (because I am unfamiliar with them and this is a simple headcanon), please feel free to add additions and improvements to more accurately represent yourselves and groups. This does not go into neurodivergencies, but as an autistic, I would also headcanon all four of them as neurodiverse in one way or another.
The clone DNA sample is running thin, the Kaminoans have been instructed to create a clone that would help end the war from the Republic Senate. This is how the "desirable mutuation" idea comes into conception.
They know the science, modifying Jango Fett's DNA with the desirable, amplified qualities instructed: Strength, Intelligence, Hunting Skills, Sharpshooting. The "how" was more difficult, with the DNA so stretched and the modifications adding extra tension, the clones needed medical attention constantly throughout the process.
This lead to the four clones of Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair and Tech. Four still very visibly Jango clones, all with Polynesian features and dark brown skin like mahogany.
The Intelligence clone - Tech - is partially blind in one eye and hard of hearing, his glasses which he created with the aid of Wrecker (because if your expertise is explosions, you excel in engineering) have a built in hearing aid. He mainly communicates in ASL (Aurebesh Sign Language), which he taught his batchmates to at the very least understand. (I also headcanon this version of Tech as autistic and has selective mutism). Tech has the darkest skin tone out of all of his batchmates, and tight coily hair. He closely resembles this specific photo of young Temuera Morrison.
Tumblr media
The Sharpshooting clone - Crosshair - has a prosthetic, born without his right leg. He had to extra spend time in Kaminoan facilities as a child, focusing on physio and less time on the small shooting range facility where he wished to be instead. He can still struggle with his prosthetic on missions and in daily life in the bunks on Kamino. The prosthetic does match his brown skin tone in places and others it is all robotic (hidden underneath his clone uniform and armor) - It has been specifically reinforced for combat with the help of Tech and Wrecker modifying the original. I picture this photo of younger Temuera Morrison as looking closest to Crosshair.
Tumblr media
The Strength clone - Wrecker. Unsurprising to some, his disability is hidden. Despite being the strongest clone and having an expertise in delicate weaponry & explosives, Wrecker has chronic fatigue from his mutation. The strength and stress produced too high levels of cortisol and adrenaline within his body, and it created a clone with intense strength and precision but also came with the cost of an autoimmune disorder. Wrecker is constantly fatigued, and has to rely on the supply of medicines to ease his disorder. Despite his precise hands to deal with explosives, they often shake or cramp up, and his legs often give way. On his worse days, his batchmates take care of him. (I also headcanon Wrecker as ADHD). I picture this version of younger Temuera Morrison as looking closest to him.
Tumblr media
The Hunting Skills clone - Hunter. I sat with this one for a while and ultimately settled on the headcanon that he needs a stoma bag and has Crohn's disease. Because of this, he is irregularly thin for a clone which was how it was first investigated by the Kaminoans. He is very short compared to his batchmates too as a result of childhood Crohn's and only stands at a 5'1 compared to his batchmates and other clones who average at the original DNAs 5'7". Despite these issues, he is the best hunter of the group and his height is advantageous for reaching small spaces his batchmates cannot, especially on infiltration missions. Similar to Wrecker, he suffers with chronic fatigue as a result. Hunter also has ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) which means his diet is very limited and has to have accommodations in the clone cafeterias - On missions, his hunting skills aid this because he can always track food he is able to eat without problems. He also takes medications for easing his symptoms. I picture this version of Temuera Morrison as closest to Hunter.
Tumblr media
As a bonus for those who wish to include Echo in these headcanons, here is how I picture him with the source being younger Temuera Morrison. He does regain more melanin overtime but at his palest, this is how I picture it.
Tumblr media
Plus, they don't use the term "Regs" in this AU and don't believe they are superior to other clones & instead value other clones especially those like Commander Wolffe who have disabilities too, which is why they accept Echo with open arms into their Clone Force Unit, and even have 99 as the honorary first clone in their batch posthumously. They use the term "Bad Batch" as a reclamation term as that is how the Kaminoans and bounty hunters who trained them referred to them due to their disabilities & desirable mutations. And most importantly, they are anti-racist and anti-eugenics - because they are disabled brown men.
In case this post wasn't clear enough, this is very anti The Bad Batch show and the racist, pro-eugenics writings they have within the source material. This is a complete rework of the four bad batchers seen within clone wars season 7. I am not Polynesian or have experience with majority of the disabilities within my headcanons here, so all improvements and additions by those minority groups are heavily encouraged. Fanworkings of these headcanons are also perfectly welcome, provided there is no whitewashing of the characters or erasure of their heritage and disabilities within the work. These headcanons are my own and if you do any fan works with them, I would love to see it, as I am going to be treating my headcanon Bad Batch and canon Bad Batch as two separate entities as majority of the characterisation heavily differs from canon - and it is what representation we deserved to have.
I will repeat, this headcanon is NOTHING to do with the bad batch show and canon characterisations of the bad batch seen in clone wars. If you support Filoni's writings of the characters, this post is not for you. This is also to illustrate how easily Filoni could have wrote good representation with the concept and actively chose not to. If you do engage with this headcanon set, make sure you are openly uplifting voices and movements from poc about this show, an example being the unwhitewashtbb movement.

Honestly this is just a rant but like…
I’m honestly just a bit pissy with Star Wars lately with the info about how they treated Temuera Morrison with TBOBF and like just completely scrapping that story mid show?! But also like, that was some of the best rep of Tattooine we’ve honestly gotten. Like we got to know the sand people and their influences and culture. And it was just…scrapped???? Like honestly WTF that was some of the most interesting Star Wars I had seen IN AWHILE.
Not only that but we for real had an entire season of exploring the rebirth of Mandalore with Bokatan and not ONCE ARE WE GOING TO MENTION SATINE? Who idk made mandalore the way it was???
The way they try their best to go out of the way to continually prop up certain characters (white characters or white washed characters) is ridiculous. It makes Star Wars feel so fucking stale. Like yeah I’ve seen this story told 1000 times.
Give me more culture in Star Wars AND GIVE THE PEOPLE IT COMES FROM CREDIT.
Just because the annoying fan bois are loud doesn’t mean they’re right. And tbh I’m pissed they keep getting listened to.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Director: James Wan
Starring: Jason Mamoa, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Randall Park Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren
Release Date: December 22, 2023
My Rating: 6/10
My Review (MINIMAL SPOILERS):
Did this movie need a sequel? No, it didn’t. Not really. I love the first aquaman movie. I loved its use of classic literary archetypes and the Arthurian legend storyline. I believe I gave it a 10/10? I would’ve been fine with just that movie and nothing more, as I’m not a justice league or even a DCEU fan for that matter.
That being said…this movie was fun. It was really cheesy at some points (how many times do we need to yell, “GET AWAY FROM MY [insert family member here]???). The plot was really simple to follow, even though I definitely had to look up why Black Manta was mad at Aquaman before going into the movie because I had forgotten over the *five years* between the movie. The villain has absolutely no arc - he was just evil and rebuffed the hero’s attempt of mercy in the end. It was a very straightforward superhero movie. It felt like watching the Fantastic Four movies from the 2000s if that makes sense. It wasn’t groundbreaking by any means. It had a ton of action sequences that went on a little long, an infallible hero, and very basic drama.
Amber Heard’s Mera has a really decreased role in this movie. I really enjoyed Mera in the original Aquaman. If her decreased role was a result of the actress’s legal battles and negative press…I can understand that. But if they just didn’t know what to do with her character and reduced her to lower than a supporting role for that reason, I have some issues.
I loved that I finally got a movie that did a brother battle redemption story RIGHT. Either the writer, director, Patrick Wilson, or all 3 really understood Orm as a character because he was the best part of the movie. I really believed his “return to the light side”. His interactions with Arthur were so great and often really funny, but they also held a solid amount of emotional weight. Maybe it’s my love for Patrick Wilson talking, but I just couldn’t get enough of Orm in this movie. Patrick Wilson should play more villains, he plays them so richly…Patrick Wilson should just be in more movies.
This movie was just a pretty solid movie if you know what to expect going in. Like I mentioned before, it’s nothing super exciting or groundbreaking. But it follows the instructions for a superhero action movie and does it well enough. As the last movie of the DCEU…it is what it is. The DCEU isn’t going out with a bang, that’s for sure, but it isn’t going out with a fizzle either. I don’t think I’d recommend it for people that don’t really already love the genre but if you like superhero movies…this one will do just fine.

Star wars Celebration Anaheim Part 2
So me and my brother got tickets to the celebrity signings, while in line for the signings and for other random things I was literally crocheting yarn leis for the people I was gonna meet.
I also made these really quick drawings of the most out of context things I could think of so here’s the run down.
I gave Ashley Ekstein an image of Ahsoka lost in the off-limits area of the play place at Mc Donalds... I’m not kidding.
Tumblr media
UHm for Sam witwer I gave him a drawing of Darth Maul as a planet fittness employee because when my friend showed me a reel of him in the recording booth I said, he looks like a planet fittness employee-
Tumblr media
For Matt Lanter, I gave him a drawing of Ahsoka and Anakin staring at the floor because they just dropped the lego ship they’d been working on for hours.
Tumblr media
Okay and I didn’t get a picture of this one, but I drew Michelle Ang a picture of Omega realising she’s lost in a Walmart.
The voice actors like looked at these for a good minute trying to understand what was happening until I explained to them what it was, I think the person who was the most confused was Sam Witwer because those two things just don’t make any sense whatsoever. I also remember Ashley Ekstein in the most mom way possible saying, I love your art! This is really good. ahfiuerhsuifwehfweifg
Michelle Ang was like :) I love it and then I showed her my tiny sketch book and she asked for my instagram and i was like
Tumblr media
You for real? You serious? On God? Just like that?
She told me to write it on the back of the drawing and I did and like. I guess Michelle Ang factually has my instagram @ now. Also remember saying, man thank you we need more PI rep in Star Wars and then she just started nodding and said “ yes Absolultey.” both of us just nodded in solidarity for like a minute.
Even the celebrities I didn’t have tickets for I still got in line and met just to give them leis, each lei had the colors of their characters, and it was something I decided to do as an extent of what we did back in Hawai’i, especially at kawaii kon people would give the guests there gifts.
Of course, it was usually stuff like art, and food, but because of covid and certain gift rules these yarn leis were the best I could do that they would accept :)
THen the absolute chadist moment, me and my brother managed to get pictures with Temuera Morrison
Tumblr media
I asked first of course and gave him a lei and he like like, Oh it’s for me? and I was like 𝒴𝑒𝓈 𝓂𝓎 𝓁𝒾𝑒𝑔𝑒. But not really, I just said, Yeah :)
Absolute legend, when we were done, I said, Mahalo Nui :) and my brother said shoots, and like we heard Temuera say Mahalo nui back and I just remember leaving like
Tumblr media
The one kine uncle said it, I am at peace.
Another thing my fish, on my belt, my fish pouch is like staring back at the camera.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Absolutely legendary.

THE FLASH (2023)
Starring Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Keaton, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, Temuera Morrison, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, Luke Brandon Field, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jeremy Irons, Nicolas Cage, George Clooney and Ben Affleck.
Screenplay by Christina Hodson.
Directed by Andy Muschietti.
Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. 144 minutes. Rated PG-13.
The Flash was always my favorite DC superhero (with the possible exception of Superman), so even though I’m well past my comic book phase, I’ve been keenly waiting for this film. Of course, it turned out to be a longer wait than most anticipated.
It’s sort of a tough time for the speedster. The CW television series of The Flash just limped off the air a few weeks ago, long after the show had jumped the shark, going from a terrific series to one that was barely watchable over the last few seasons.
The character has been on the outskirts of the DC film universe for a while, appearing in Justice League and doing cameos in Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad. However, this film has been on hold for a while now – for several reasons. Original plans had it being released in 2018, but a whole series of issues slowed down the speedster.
First of all, the film shuffled through a whole series of potential directors and script revisions. They finally settled on director Andy Muschietti (right off his successful helming of two films based on Stephen King’s IT), but even with Muschietti on board, it was planned to get wide release a year ago.
However, that was right at the time of the DCEU shift from the old Zack Snyder universe to the new conception of the franchise helmed by James Gunn. There were quite a few rumors that the Flash film would be scrapped, both because it was part of the old guard, and also because star Ezra Miller had often been in the news because of a disturbing series of personal and legal issues over recent years.
In fact, honestly, to a certain extent the film was more anticipated because it was going to feature the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, resuming the role for the first time since Batman Returns (1992). In fact, more than even the lead character, I have a feeling that Keaton’s participation in the film was the reason that this film survived and is finally reaching theaters.
It's a good thing that it did, because The Flash is the best DC film since… well… the first Shazam! Of course, this says as much about the overall quality of DCEU efforts as it does about the quality of The Flash. Still, while far from perfect, The Flash is a mostly quite enjoyable time-travel adventure with lots of fun Easter eggs for fans.
Sadly, one of the slight disappointments of the film is Ezra Miller’s performance and Barry Allen / The Flash. In fairness, Miller has many funny moments, but overall he plays the role a bit too broadly, almost like a Randy Rainbow parody of the character. With all of his other issues, it will be interesting to see if Miller continues to play the role in future projects.
The Flash is another one of those comic book films that revolves around a multiverse (I wonder if there will ever be another superhero film that actually stays in one time thread), and while the idea is kind of overdone by now, The Flash does some fun things with it. We get to revisit lots of different variations of superheroes over the years, with Michael Keaton’s Batman and Michael Shannon’s General Zod standing out as fun casting returns.
It's probably best that you go into The Flash not knowing too much of the plot, so I’ll not delve into the storyline too much to avoid dropping any potential spoilers here. The only thing you really need to know is that the nearly two and a half hours of The Flash zips by in an exciting and fun blur, and it’s definitely worth the time.

Hello readers,
Ever since The Mandalorian, I’ve been excited and passionate about all new Star Wars content (aside from the sequel movies of course). But in recent months, I’ve really gotten into the animated shows of Star Wars, specifically Clone Wars, Rebels and Bad Batch. (and I cannot wait for Tales of the Jedi!). I’ve just finished my 3rd re-watch of Star Wars The Bad Batch and feel that while I praise the show and it’s story, upon re-watching, I can’t help but notice the flaws that I’d like to discuss because no show is perfect. I’ll also be making comparisons to other animated shows that I feel The Bad Batch can benefit learning from.
Warning—Long post, Contains spoilers for The Bad Batch, Clone Wars, Book of Boba, Avatar the Last Airbender, and Arcane the following analysis (/review?) is purely opinion based and my own ideas/thoughts about the shows aren’t canon or confirmed by anyone. Contains talk of mental illness including depression, anxiety, abandonment and hallucinations, so anyone who might feel uncomfortable with such topics should stop reading. Any mention of mental illness is my own interpretation and based on my own experience being diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and OCD.
*I recognize and understand that both the Bad Batch and Arcane only have 1 season (with a 2nd season confirmed for both) out as of writing this post so I know my views and opinions will change as more content is created*
In short, the Bad Batch is about a group of genetically enhanced soldiers in the Grand Army of the Republic, which no longer exists, thanks to Order 66, called Clone Force 99. The enhanced soldiers find themselves divided when one member, Crosshair, still sides with the evil Empire. CF99’s Sergeant Hunter and the rest of the squad find themselves responsible for the young Omega, the only female clone of Jango Fett. After learning she is like Fett’s son, Boba—an unaltered clone, the remaining squad members vow to protect her from various bounty hunters, their fallen brother Crosshair and the rapidly changing galaxy thanks to the fall of the Republic.
The story of the Bad Batch comes to a head when Hunter is captured and the Empire destroys the cloning facility on Kamino, and finally, Crosshair deciding to stay with the Empire. The story is one of the things I cannot improve much, if anything at all upon, as I like it the way it is. I love the setting, starting with Order 66. The animation is stunning like The Clone Wars Season 7 quality and the music is beautiful (though the last CW S7 4-episode finale music is the best imo). Special clones and a young unaltered female clone is a nice take on the classic Star Wars trope of reluctant adoptive fathers meeting their space child.
Like many have pointed out, I agree that the Bad Batch have been severely whitewashed. The clone template, Jango Fett is played by Temuera Morrison, Brodie Taylor and Daniel Logan are all New Zealand actors and have dark tan skin, dark brown eyes and thick, wavy/almost curly hair and wide, rounded features. No one is white! Despite the age differences, all 3 actors share the skin tone, wavy dark hair and soft, rounded features.
Here are what animated clones looks like
Tumblr media
While the clones don’t look too bad, these are considered regular clones, or ‘regs’. These are Echo (L) and Fives (R) (I believe from S3 of Clone Wars specifically) and while they have their tan complexion, the skin could use a bit of pink just to make the skin look fleshier. The lips are a bit too pointed, eyes a bit too angular and the jawline is clearly sharp and pronounced. Even the haircut is modeled after a buzz cut of straight hair. A curly buzz cut wouldn’t be flat on top and would have a bit of texture.
Now here is the Bad Batch.
Tumblr media
None of these clones remotely resembles Temuera Morrison, who I’m using as my main actor for comparison. Starting with Hunter, you can easily see his straight jawline and his hair, while long, would be wavier and have more texture. His complexion is a lighter, orangier color, making him look white, especially while in a sterile, bright place like Tipoca City. His nose is thinner than Echo’s, who believe it or not, is the clone to Hunter’s left. Echo, what even is your skin complexion? Even through torture and complete lack of sunlight, Echo’s skin would still retain a natural hint of tan. This man looks pale as a ghost. Tech looks like he has a touch of jaundice or something, especially compared to Hunter or Wrecker and I don’t even know what his hairline is unless he cut it himself. Then there’s Crosshair, the thinnest, lankiest out of them. I understand it’s a design choice. Each member looks a certain way because of their genetic enhancement, but Cross doesn’t even resemble Temuera Morrison or a Māori man at all. Everything about his features are designed to be slim and thin, which could be achieved had he also not looked so angular. Round out the edges especially around his nose, jaw and change the skin tone (because his skin tone is a bit like Tech’s). And lastly, Wrecker, while still a bit on the lighter side, has skin that’s darker overall compared to the other members of the Bad Batch and has the wide, rounded features. But that’s where my next point comes in.
That was only their physical attributes. Next I’ll get into their characters, starting with Wrecker. While he may resemble Temuera Morrison the most out of everyone, he is assigned the role of the ‘dumb brute’ with the child-like personality, which isn’t a great message to send. Tech being the typical brilliant but socially inept character really would’ve been fine had his accent not been that of a British person’s. Echo’s PTSD from the trauma and torture he endured is completely sidelined by Hunter and Omega’s relationship and the group also have a hard time listening to his completely valid reasons for not wanting to help a Separatist. Echo is the ‘reg’ of the group and for him to be treated as lesser by the rest of CF99, plays right into Crosshair’s mentality of being being superior to the regs. Crosshair believes he and his brothers are superior to the regular clones due to their mutations and even outright says it! Even during my first watch, that line didn’t sit well with me. Lastly is Hunter and while he’s supposed to be the leader of his squad and protect everyone, he often puts his life, the lives of his brothers and even Omega’s life, in danger in order to please her. I’d also like to point out that the VA for all clones is Dee Bradley Baker, a talented, white man tasked with voicing all clones in the animated series. Omega sounds a lot different than CF99 because her VA is from New Zealand like the actors in the live action movies. She sounds a lot like Daniel Logan, which is nice, but her voice still sounded off to me. I googled her and saw the VA, Michelle Ang, is in her 30’s!
I deliberately have kept from talking about Omega to separate her from the Batch so I can talk about her as her own character. Here is Omega and a group of clone cadets for comparison. As you can see, her design isn’t too bad aside from the skin tone, and her nose is a bit too pointy at the tip. I don’t mind the blond of her hair too much, especially since one of the cadets below and Captain Rex have blond hair, but would’ve preferred it if she had dark brown hair like Daniel Logan (since they decided with the light skin tone).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Omega as a character I think could definitely be improved upon. Now to start, I’d like to say that my own headcanon is that Omega is 11. That’s important because a lot of shows write children as mini adults and, sometimes, it shows. I understand that children are annoying and can come off as unlikeable, but I think that’s the point, especially with Star Wars. Dave Filoni has a track record for creating unlikeable youngsters and having them grow over time, with Ahsoka being the most famous example and Ezra Bridger a close 2nd.
Filoni also worked on Avatar the Last Airbender, the best kids show there is. Both shows tackle mature themes of brainwashing/manipulation, genocide and war. I think one of the best developed characters is Sokka, who along with Zuko, has the most character growth. Sokka starts off as a sexist egotistical goofball that was comedic relief. But already by the 3rd and 4th episodes, Sokka is shown to be caring and apologetic when he realizes his wrongdoings. Omega doesn’t change much from the first episode aside from being less sheltered and more confident. The one lesson that she never seemed to learn was that you can’t always save everyone so, in the finale, saving AZ felt like a let down. It would’ve been great character growth for Omega to learn that not everyone can be saved, especially since she pressures Hunter into doing what she thinks is right. At this time, I’d like to point out that the VA in AtLA, during the time of recording, were children/young adults and able to pass as children. Michelle Ang being in her 30’s is quite obviously an adult. It makes the show much more believable and real with age-appropriate VA’s. I realize that Ashley Eckstein, Ahsoka Tano’s VA, is also an adult, but I feel she is better casted, because having an adult voice a child in animation isn’t uncommon and can be pulled off successfully (Bart Simpson, Ash Ketchum, Grey DeLisle roster of characters).
Omega is a young girl, who, deep down, is afraid of being abandoned and left behind as well as being part of the Kaminoan’s experiments. I’d like to bring up another young girl who’s afraid of being abandoned, left and replaced. Powder from Netflix’s Arcane. I’ll be using Powder as my main example of how a good child character can be a great child character.
I assume Powder to be around 4 or 5 at the very beginning of Arcane where we see her walking with Vi, her older sister, and see that their parents are dead, and about 9 or 10 during Act 1 and during the accidental explosion. Omega is 11, which isn’t far off from 9 and both girls are afraid of being abandoned and left behind by the ones they feel attached to. Now that’s definitely a theme within both shows, but Arcane does a better job of showing it, perhaps because it’s portrayed as a mental illness, especially in one of the youngest characters in the show.
Powder is shown, early on, to have a close and deep attachment to her older sister/protector, Vi. Omega is shown to have an attachment/relationship with the Kaminoan scientist, Nala Se and to CF99. Omega wears a gray headpiece that is identical to the one Nala Se wears, along with her clothes being similarly colored. While Nala Se appears protective over Omega by keeping Omega’s interactions with others brief to nonexistent, she actually helps the young clone escape with CF99 and even hires Fennec Shand to protect the girl from Lama Su, the Kaminoan Prime Minister. After reuniting with CF99 in the 1st episode, Omega is eager to prove her worth to the squad and join them, since it’s revealed in the finale that Omega knew the squad when they were being created (and is technically older than the squad-maybe not Echo though). Like Omega, Powder is eager to prove herself to Vi and their adopted brothers Mylo and Claggor, being the youngest, most inexperienced of the group.
Omega is shown to be afraid of being abandoned and gets upset when Hunter gets angry with her, as shown in episode 2 Cut and Run. Omega’s inexperience nearly gets the young girl killed by a Nexu (Nexxu?) Hunter yells at her briefly which causes her to cry once Cut takes her back to the ship. Omega is also shown crying when the Batch rescue her from Bane and Shand in episode 9 Bounty Lost, and upset right when Hunter missed his jump, getting captured in episode 14 War Mantel. Omega’s emotions are toned down and subtle with shiny wet eyes, and a wet sniffle being the main indicators of the young clone’s emotions. Because of her inexperience and her age, Omega would be terrified and show more emotion or have the emotions she does show be more intense. Which brings me to Powder, specifically in the heart wrenching episode 3 The Base Violence Necessary for Change. Powder is told to stay behind from Vi while their adopted brothers and Vi go rescue their adopted father. Powder, clearly upset, lets a single tear slip down her cheek in the presence of her older sister and the others, but after the siblings leave the young girl alone, she mentally spirals in their room. Powder’s crying is much different from Omega’s. Powder wails and lets her eyes and nose stream, not caring about the small bits of drool coming out of her mouth as she rips apart her monkey toy before launching it as hard as she can, screaming once before curling in on herself and hitting her own head. That is much more indicative of a mental breakdown than a tantrum a child would throw. Powder threw her arms back and screamed again before clawing at her face and hitting her head a bit more before finding the box she kept the hexgems in and slamming the box on the ground. The crystals tumbled out, creating blue sparks of energy, reminding Powder of the day she took them and the explosion that happened seemingly out of nowhere.
I know what most of you are going to say at this point. TBB is a kids show with a rating of TV-PG (which is for kids 7/8 and up) and Arcane is TV-14, which means the material/content in Arcane might not be suitable for kids under 14. I believe, however, that the older age rating in Arcane is mostly for the depiction of Shimmer (drug abuse), violence, the brothel scene, that one sex scene with Jayce and Mel while Viktor dies :/ (ep5?) and the bathroom scene with Mel’s mom (ep8 I think). I know Jinx’s hallucinations are extreme and severe, but I believe, as Powder, the emotional range would’ve been acceptable in a TV-PG show. I’ve experienced the kind of mental breakdowns Powder would have at 7-8, the first one being when my parents divorced. I clawed my face so hard I have a scar on my forehead that never went away, ripped out chunks of my hair and destroyed my room. But, like Powder, I was alone when it happened. No one ever knew. The only depiction of mental illness I saw at the time was Azula’s decline in Avatar the Last Airbender, and Star Wars’ Revenge of the Sith with Anakin turning to the Dark Side, and at the time, I was too young to really understand why Azula was acting the way she was. And I was definitely too young to watch my hero, Anakin get burned alive. So to see a young character like Powder go through such mental anguish, it brought up lots of feelings of my own trauma, while watching Omega, I couldn’t really relate to because my emotions have always been intense like Powder’s. Another fact I should point out is that Omega’s VA is in her 30’s while Powder’s VA, Mia Sinclair Jenness was 10-11 at the time of recording, which also makes the character more believable.
I’d also like to point out that both girls have skills that go unused (for a time at least), and both girls aren’t naturally good at what they like/prefer doing. Omega is great at strategy with the holochess game she used to pay Cid back, but she prefers to use her Zyggerian electrobow. While the first shot she took in ep1 hit Crosshair’s blaster, she is shown to not be a good shot, having only hit her target 3 out of 12 times. She works and trains over time to get better at it and her progress grows. Powder is actually a great shot, but because of her age (and location probably), she isn’t given a gun, despite being able to outshoot Mylo, the brother that often makes fun of her. However, Powder’s main interest is her explosives/inventions. She builds all sorts of homemade bombs for protection but none seem to work, until the accidental explosion she caused. It’s clear after the timeskip, Powder, now known as Jinx, has perfected her grenades and bombs, but because of her unhinged mental state, she isn’t subtle with them, which is where we get into the TV-14 area. I believe all depictions of Powder and her mental state would’ve been ok to show in a show like Bad Batch, given that we already know that it’s predecessor show, Clone Wars, definitely crossed the line a few times for a TV-PG show (much like AtLA and it’s successor the Legend of Korra).
I understand the creative team behind TBB and Dave Filoni are trying to take their time and build up the characters over time, so I’m sure my opinion on Omega will change, especially now that we’ve got an official Season 2 trailer. But there were some choices I believe that could’ve been made to make the first season much better. In short, the whitewashing should’ve been addressed properly (especially since the Batch, including Omega, has gotten new armor/clothes) and changed appropriately, and I think whoever’s in charge of casting should’ve chosen someone else, more age appropriate for Omega. Baker is ok but could’ve been cast better to begin with, and because he’s already established as the voice of the clones from CW, it makes sense to keep him on. And the animation/writers should’ve gone more intense with Omega’s emotions given her inexperience and age.
Hopes for S2, having seen the trailer…
I definitely see Cody and Crosshair meeting up again with Rex and the Batch and perhaps a showdown with Cody and Rex (please don’t let Cody die!). The boy Omega says ‘let’s go’ to appears to be an older Pietro (Pedro? don’t really remember the name) and we briefly see Gungi and another Wookie, which makes me believe we will see the group padawans from the Hondo/padawan arc and possibly Kashyyyk. I can’t even guess as to why Omega watches Palpatine on what appears to be Coruscant? But it definitely has to do with Nala Se and the scene we saw at the end of the finale. I hope we see Boba again. It would make his whole situation with Fennec in BoBF less awkward if he already knew of Omega’s existence, especially since we see Bane again. I don’t think he’d be thrilled at seeing Omega, another unaltered Jango clone, who looks nothing like his father. Kind of like a reverse Luke/Leia. While they seemed happy to find out they were twins/siblings, I’d like to see Boba hate the idea of a twin, since she’s as close to a twin as it gets, despite the age difference.
I’d like a flashback of Omega’s creation. I think we have a lot of unexplored potential with Jango and Boba’s early days on Kamino and how Jango actually felt about the war and his situation in particular. Does Jango know about Omega? If he did, did he consent to her creation? My own personal headcanon is that she was created after Jango was killed by Master Windu because the Kaminoans have realized that Jango’s DNA is deteriorating. Realizing they’ll need another source of pure genetic Fett DNA, the Kaminoans create Omega as a backup in case something should happen to Boba, aka ‘Alpha’ (which is lucky since the Kaminoans lose him at the start of the Clone War). So even with Boba seemingly gone or assumed dead by the Kaminoans, they still have access to pure Fett DNA through Omega. This is just my own headcanon and isn’t confirmed, just thought it was a cool idea.
I’d like to see actual consequences for Omega’s actions. I can’t get over how let down I was when she saved the droid. I mean I hope the route they choose is that AZ recovers memories of Fives and Echo properly grieves or something, but the save felt like a cop out. Even Ahsoka learns that lesson in season 1 of CW where she looses her whole squad by not following Anakin’s orders. After everything that the Clone Wars show set up, I felt a little let down by how…watered down things seemed with the Batch, so I hope season 2 will find its footing with an actual story instead of the typical Saturday morning cartoon plot of a job for Cid gone wrong. I have high hopes for s2 but based off everything in s1 and all the #unwhitewashthebadbatch content there is, I’m definitely conflicted about s2.
Anyways…those are just kind of my main points about The Bad Batch so far. Anyone still reading, thank you and I hope I gave you something to think about. I’ll be back with more fics real soon :)
